From getting pickpocketed in Barcelona to being trounced over a 10-minute cab ride in Bali, we’ve all been duped at some point while travelling. But forget all that: a Forbes investigation has just shown that you can get scammed before even leaving the airport.
Even worse: a common precautionary measure we all take is actually for blame for this personal security breach. What is it? Printing your boarding pass. Sounds smart, considering how many of us fly by the seat of our phone battery, but cybersecurity experts say it is anything but.
In fact, they’re warning travellers to reconsider printing their boarding passes (for the short-haul flights where it’s possible to print your own, anyway), sticking to the digital ones sent to phones instead.
Why? According to Forbes, travellers who don’t shred their paper boarding pass – or who share them online – are making it easy for hackers to crack into their frequent flyer accounts and steal points which are then sold on the black market.
This is because, as Caleb Barlow, CEO of cybersecurity consulting firm CynergisTek, told Forbes, to break into a frequent flyer account, “all you need is your name, your booking reference number and your frequent flyer number,” – all of which are on your boarding pass.
“There could be a couple of basic password reset questions – but I might be able to get the answers to those just by looking on the web. And now… I’ve got your frequent flyer account.”
The Points Guy, a frequent flyer points expert, recently gave a similar warning, after Qantas chose to get rid of frequent flyer numbers from its boarding passes: “If given access to a boarding pass, hackers can see a plethora of personal passenger information: your frequent flyer number, name, and your six-digit PNR (Passenger Name Record) code — and voilà!”
“Not only can someone hack into your booking, but also other personal details such as the last four digits of the credit card you used to book. In theory, a hacker could move your seat or cancel your trip entirely.”
And as Escape.com.au reported on Wednesday, “Finder.com.au editor-in-chief Angus Kidman recently told news.com.au how he had 47,000 Virgin Velocity points stolen from his account that a hacker used to buy an overseas flight.”
In other words: your boarding class #humblebrag could cost you more than your social media reputation.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]If you love sparkling water (don't we all), you face a conundrum. Do you kill all of the world's polar bears by purchasing pre-bottled sparkling water, or do you buy the polar bear friendly but rather uncool and slightly unattractive soda stream? It's quite the pre...

When he isn’t on the court or posting his new car purchases to Instagram, Australian NBA star Ben Simmons can be found in the gym improving his strength and agility.
The Philadelphia 76ers point guard recently posted some images of himself in the gym performing a shoulder exercise that could have benefits for the back, too. With his right hand gripping a handle and right leg slightly bent, Ben pulls up and across his body while simultaneously bringing his right leg slightly forward. It’s an incredibly simple move that you can easily mirror in the gym.
While this exercise primarily works the shoulder, it is also a great move to help one practice maintaining core stability – something essential for a healthy lumbar. Simmons also has a trainer on hand, holding his lower back, ensuring he’s carrying out the move effectively to work the muscular region.
The back is one of the most important areas of the body, but also one of the most common areas to be susceptible to pain. Regularly working the area (and those around it), under the guidance of a trainer, is important to prevent pain, with both weight training and stretches important parts of any gym routine.

For those that want to go beyond just stabilising their core, personal trainer Peter O’Reilly gives a marrow-biting back workout on his Instagram page, outlining the various muscle groups that can all be targeted with specific exercises. He says the deadlift is the king of all exercises as it works virtually the entire body. Just make sure you enlist the help of a trainer to get the technique right before attempting.
Lat pulldowns are another effective back exercise and a favourite of many gym-goers. The lats are the muscle at the back of your ribs, just under the armpit. Big lats can give the impression of a smaller waist. Pull-ups and barbell rows are other exercises you can do to strengthen this area.
The traps are the biggest muscle group of the back, extending from the top to the bottom. Deadlifts and barbell rows are once again key moves here, but you can add in dumbbell shrugs and farmers walks to ensure you have a strong spinal region. If you want to specifically target the lower back, PT Pete suggests performing back extensions, whereby you use a Roman chair to keep your feet locked in one place while you lift your torso up and down.

You can continue to minimise back pain out of the gym too, by placing a pillow underneath your hips if you sleep on your side, or placing a rolled-up towel behind your back when you’re sitting down to ensure you preserve the natural curvature of the spine.

Boys should wear blue, girls should wear pink. These are gender-based stereotypes as old as time itself. But those stereotypes are now being challenged, and rightly so; who is anyone to tell anyone else what to wear?Besides Jeff Goldblum, we rest our case.At least, that’s when it comes to clothes. The jury is still out as to whether guys should be seen with a handbag, an accessory unequivocally associated with women and now apparently the NBA. How? Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Jordan Clarkson just made his case for the manbag, sporting a red Chanel clutch on his way to the Cavs’ game against Miami Heat.

We’re not going to be the ones to say men and handbags are like chalk and cheese, but when you consider the fact the only men’s products on the Chanel website are fragrances, some eyebrows are expected to be raised. Clarkson’s teammate Kevin Love opts for a more traditional pouch to carry his personal belongings, for example.https://www.instagram.com/p/B36E7olB3t0/His accessory of choice has certainly divided opinion, with some commenters saying: “Let my guy wear a purse. Luxury has no gender!”, while others claim “Bro, this is a joke lmao.”The 27-year-old always strives to be at the height of fashion, regularly posting his latest wears on Instagram, and his outfit choice this time around is no different. Partnering his Chanel clutch is a Dior denim jacket, white tee, beach scene shorts and a pair of ultra-exclusive Tom Sachs x Nike Mars Yard sneakers – which you can get yourself for around AU$6,000.Clarkson isn’t alone in blurring the lines between men’s and women’s fashion, however, as F1 superstar Lewis Hamilton was seen wearing a pair of women’s Gucci pants. The fashion giant now has lines of clothes designed to be worn by both men and women and has even put an end to separate fashion shows. While Lewis’ look was unassuming to the untrained eye, the same can’t be said of Jordan’s clutch. While we appreciate guys who try to break down gender stereotypes, this is one we’re going to have to dwell on for a little while longer.

Picture the scene. You’re attending a lavish cocktail party. Your hairstyle is on point, your watch game is strong and your brand new suit is ready to make its first appearance. You should be able to rock up looking like a model. But – shock, horror – you haven’t had the suit pants tailored to hang at the right length and instead of looking a million dollars, you look like you just picked something up from Vinnie’s.At least you can be safe in the knowledge that it’s not just you that makes this sartorial slip-up. Celebrities are just as bad. They’re so often our go-to for the latest style trends. But if they get it wrong on a regular basis, how are we ever going to learn?Michael Douglas is one such offender who makes the mistake of wearing ill-fitting suit trousers. So much so, we’ve gone greyer than him with the agony it causes us. The multi-award-winning actor was recently seen arriving at The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on November the 19th, looking a picture of health. That is, until, you divert your gaze to his ankles. Where there should be a glimpse of a sock, there’s nothing but a bunched up mess of material. He’s not alone in making the embarrassing blunder. Celebs the world over continuously neglect the traditional style rules when wearing a suit. It’s most likely because they’ve been sent said offensive suit from a label, they immediately throw it on before an event, get snapped wearing it once and then consign it to the depths of their vast wardrobe.Ash Williams made a farcical fashion faux-pas whilst hosting the Miss Universe Australia finals. The Australian comedian donned a tuxedo – the ultimate in formal attire – for the event, but he would have got a unanimous nil point from us if we were the judge. It took just one look at this photo for us to immediately want to gauge our eyes out with rusty nails. Simply unforgivable.https://www.instagram.com/p/BzNKPpdBAdk/Danish actor Viggo Mortensen, another celeb who regularly appears on our well-dressed radar, isn’t immune to making a mistake every now and then either, turning up to the 89th Academy Awards with unhemmed trousers.
That brings us nicely on to Simon Cowell. The music mogul consistently comes to mind when thinking about dodgy fashion sense. He repeats his offences so often though, we’re starting to believe he thinks he looks good. If he’s not wearing his go-to outfit of a rag-thin white t-shirt and light-wash denim jeans, he can be seen sporting a suit that’s all kinds of wrong.https://www.instagram.com/p/BD0jVn_ptS8/We simply don’t understand how he doesn’t trip over his trousers given the amount of slack material at the bottom. It hurts us. “Glam shoot” he captions this picture. It physically hurts us.So gents, please, for the love of all that is Holy, make sure your trousers hang at the right length. A quick trip to a haberdashery can make all the difference between a sharp dressed man and a blunt dud.

As if Cathay Pacific’s existing first-class were not lumbar-tantalising enough, the Hong Kong carrier has now upped the ante another notch, this morning announcing a number of sensory improvements to its pointy end.“Travellers are set to enjoy a more bespoke, sensory journey with Cathay Pacific’s enhanced soft product and culinary offering,” the airline stated. For first-class passengers travelling through Hong Kong, this elevated premium travel experience will include “a new, more bespoke customer journey centred on enjoying inspired flavours, calming fragrances and refined textures” as well as “exquisite bedding and amenities along with wellness options and tableware… with new and enhanced offerings.”The most promising change though is Cathay Pacific’s collaboration with UK luxury lifestyle brand Bamford, a company known for its ethical and sustainable principles, as well as its exclusive amenities, travel kits and plush bedding. In other words: significantly more comfort – no easy feat considering how widely regarded the old beds were, with prolific travel blogger (and owner of Flight Hacks) Immanuel Debeer telling D’Marge last month that Cathay Pacific first class is one of his personal favourites.
“If you want to transit in Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific first class is fantastic. The seats are huge and the bed is incredibly comfortable – even more so after a few glasses of Krug champagne.”
Cathay Pacific business class will be getting a fresh lick of comfort too, with travellers now able to bask in an enriched sleep proposition that includes “newly introduced and greatly enhanced” bedding and slippers. They say beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin, but we’ll take sitting pretty at the front end of an A350-900 any day.To wit: passengers travelling long haul in Cathay Pacific business class can now settle in for an even deeper night’s beauty sleep with Bamford’s new range, which includes a soft mattress topper along with a larger, plusher sleeping pillow and premium-quality slippers – all new additions that have been “highly requested” by Cathay Pacific passengers.
“This elevated long-haul business-class experience is further supplemented by a new, premium 400-thread-count pillowcase and a two-piece duvet, both made using 100 percent sustainably sourced cotton.”
Bamford has also put together all new branded business class amenity kits that will roll out progressively from the 1st of December.Cathay Pacific General Manager Customer Experience and Design Vivian Lo said: “We are incredibly excited to be unveiling many wonderful enhancements in our Business and First Class cabins, and to have Bamford, a renowned leader in sustainable luxury, as the cornerstone of our premium inflight experience.”
“Earlier this year, we launched our new brand direction ‘Move Beyond’ with the goal of continuously exceeding our customers’ expectations at every stage of their journey. These enrichments to the products and service in our premium cabins are a resounding expression of that commitment and of our belief that every journey is our customers’ most important one.”
Interest kindled? Cathay Pacific Airways offers over 70 flights a week to Hong Kong from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, all of which provide excellent connections over the Hong Kong hub to the airlines worldwide network, including an extensive number of cities in China, served by Cathay Dragon.Although they don’t currently offer first class on any of these Australia to Hong Kong routes, here’s hoping they do in the near (or, at least, not too far) future.

German watchmaker A. Lange & Söhne can now officially call Australia its home away from home, with the opening of a first standalone boutique store in Sydney next month. Taking up residence in Martin Place, the company’s latest store will offer watch aficionados 164 square metres of retail space, set over three split-levels – plenty to peruse over the latest collections.
Those aficionados are enticed in thanks to a large glass frontage, but the high-rollers can get an exclusive view of the entire store from a VIP lounge. The design of the store itself takes inspiration from the company’s expertly crafted timepieces, with steel and natural stone materials both being used, as well as a complementary shade of grey that matches the German silver used in every one of its watch movements.
If you’re someone who knows their chronographs from their complications, you’ll be wise to pay a visit to Lange’s new boutique, as you’ll be able to gaze over some of the company’s finest and most intricate models, including the Tourbograph Perpetual ‘Pour le Mérite’, limited to just 50 pieces and the Triple Split, the world’s first mechanical split-seconds chronograph that allows multi-hour comparative time measurements.https://www.instagram.com/p/Bu_kdnPFZ2_/Speaking of the new boutique, which will arrive as one of Lange’s largest worldwide, CEO Wilhelm Schmid said: “The number of knowledgeable watch enthusiasts and collectors in Australia is continuously growing, as is the demand for our timepieces. This is why Sydney is among the first sites where we implemented our new store design.”
If you fancy taking a look over A. Lange & Söhne’s latest collections, you will be able to find the new boutique at 14 Martin Place in Sydney’s CBD.

Bromance, or brotherly romance, is a term now ingrained in modern society, referring to ‘guy friends’ who have intimate relationships. Previous studies have found that men can, in fact, get more emotional satisfaction from a bromance than they do from a romantic relationship.
The male-to-male bond is becoming more popular and more accepted than ever, and burgeoning male celebrity relationships only add to this.
One such blossoming bromance is that of tougher-than-James-Bond Matt Damon and Australian poster boy Chris Hemsworth. The two Hollywood megastars can often be found attending events together in public or relaxing with their families behind closed doors. They’re so close in fact they even have matching tattoos, not of each other’s names, but three small dots on their little fingers.
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz201bonx7k/
Their relationship is a fine example that it’s ok for dudes to hang out with one another and share intimate moments without being self-conscious. This is a practice seen all across Australia, as guys will regularly go for dinner or drinks with a mate, one on one, to discuss university prospects, who’s hooking up with who or just wax lyrical about their weekend, without feeling the need to invite a bucketload of friends along.
In my experience, as a Brit, I was surprised to find that – even though Australian men have a reputation for being more ‘Crocodile Dundee’ than ‘Nutcracker Suite’ – this is a stereotype very much past its expiry date. In fact, from what I’ve seen, Australian men are more prone to bromances than my UK compatriots. I find guys in this hemisphere are less worried about older generational hang-ups and have no qualms catching up over a beer or spending the day at the beach just as a pair.
However, just by coining a term to describe a close male bond, bromances could, in fact, have a negative effect on the male population. There isn’t one finite term to describe the close relationship between two women, so why should men be required to name theirs?
https://www.instagram.com/p/B366K0NjtiA/
The modern heterosexual man is under pressure to conform to a stereotype. To be masculine and tough. Look at the cover of any men’s health and fitness magazine and you’ll see what the ‘ideal man’ should look like. But as soon as he shows any sign of emotion or feeling, he’s immediately told to ‘man up’. It’s a stigma that is being fought against, with the ‘It’s Ok To Talk’, ‘R U Ok?’ and ‘Man Up’ campaigns telling all of us that we are in fact allowed to express ourselves without consequence.
With suicide being the leading cause of death among men in Australia aged 15-44, and often linked to mental health, caused by feeling the pressure to act the ‘right way’ by society, it’s certainly a campaign that requires more and more support. Celebrity friendships such as Matt and Chris’s are, without intending to, helping with this. They’re showing that it’s perfectly fine for guys to hang out on regular occasions, and not just for a quick beer down the RSL once a month.
Speaking to the ‘Man Up’ campaign, Associate Professor Michael Flood says that despite sportsmen hugging each other on the field after they score a try or a goal, when two dudes meet up with each other, they’ll usually restrict themselves to a firm handshake, rather than show any sort of emotion. If a hug does occur, it’s not affectionate, but more of an ‘I’m acknowledging our friendship with a pat on the back, making sure our genitals come nowhere near each other,’ kind of hug.
It’s an attitude that needs to be weaned out. So next time you meet up with your pals, don’t be afraid to embrace them, and if you do happen to ‘touch,’ laugh it off with some bromantic banter.
