With 2018 in full swing it’s time to visit the peacock capital of the world lovingly known as Pitti Uomo 93.
The bi-annual show serves as the premiere international event for menswear and the latest season launches which tend to set the style tone for the year. Of course with fashion comes the droves of self-proclaimed fashionistos. The usual haunt of the good, the bad and the ugly.
We’re not here to draw blood today but rather to showcase some of the coolest street style trends we dig and would actually wear out in public. That little corner tends to suit a majority of the male contingency who aren’t fighting to be featured on the front page of some obscure fashion Instagram page. It’s where we enjoy playing.
So here it is, a quick gallery of the best looks to borrow inspiration from along with some questionable ones at then end. Let’s just say a Snapchat filter glasses, going as The Mandarin, making the African safari hat happen and someone vomiting a rainbow on your shoulder isn’t the best look for men.
Till next year, Monopoly Man.

Gucci has dipped its toes into experiential retail with the debut of its first ever restaurant in Florence.
The Italian luxury fashion label has shown off it’s new 50-seat restaurant which forms part of it’s new exhibition space known as Gucci Garden. It’s no pop-up burger stand either with award-winning Michelin starred chef Massimo Bottura charged with curating the extravagant menu at Gucci Osteria.
The all-day restaurant overlooks the city’s most iconic square known as the Piazza della Signoria to provide the views to match the culinary experience. Dishes on offer will include Parmigiano Reggiano tortellini, Peruvian style tostadas, pork belly buns, and a mushroom risotto which are reasonably well priced between 20 to 30 euros.
“The restaurant is a reminder that Florence has always been a centre of cultural exchange, particularly during the Renaissance,” says Bottura says.
Gucci Garden will also feature an exhibit area which houses a bazaar style boutique and cinema room.
Those looking for label-inspired hospitality services will also be glad to hear that Swiss watchmaker IWC also recently opened their own whisky bar in Geneva. Could this be a sign of the things to come in 2018? We certainly hope so.

One of the best parts of being in a relationship is discovering new things through your partner, whether it’s a restaurant you haven’t tried, a band you haven’t heard of, or your new favourite TV show. The longer you’re in that relationship, the more likely it is that your partner will influence your likes and dislikes, and over time, your tastes gradually merge.
So the results of a recent study published in the journal Appetite aren’t as strange as they first appear.

Researchers have discovered a “shift in chemosensory perception related to relationship duration”. In words that don’t require a PhD to understand, couples develop more similar food and scent preferences the longer they’ve been together.
Researchers from Poland and Germany asked 100 heterosexual couples who had been dating for varying lengths of time (ranging from three months to 45 years) to rate different scents, such as smoked meat, leather, rose, and eucalyptus. The couples were then asked what they thought of a series of flavours that were spritzed on their tongues, including sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and umami.
The longer a couple had been together, the more likely they were to share preferences for both smell and taste. Researchers theorise that this is because partners share the same or similar environments and habits, and are therefore exposed to similar olfactory and gustatory stimuli, which could shape matching preferences in both partners.
Interestingly, the researchers did not find a link between the merging of scent and food preferences and happier relationships. Partners who liked similar foods weren’t more likely to be satisfied in their relationships, and in fact those who shared similar smell preferences were actually less satisfied.
The study authors hypothesise that similar smell preferences, but not tastes, could indicate that a couple is genetically incompatible to produce offspring, leading to unhappiness with their relationship at a deep, subconscious level.
“The aforementioned evidence suggest that preference for similar odors (but not tastes) may be a cue to potentially disadvantageous similarities in the [major histocompatibility complex] MHC, and lower genetic compatibility of partners may be associated with lower relationship satisfaction,” wrote the researchers.
Odd as shared taste buds may sound, it’s hardly the only way in which couples become more alike over time. Partners in long-term relationships have also been shown to resemble each other in levels of health, life satisfaction, personality, and even physical appearance.

The days of tax evasion via cryptocurrency trading may be over with the Australian Taxation Office enlisting a team of experts to catch dodgy traders. Yes, maybe we spoke too soon.
The news comes via the Australian Financial Review who today announced that the ATO have been in active consultation with tax experts and lawyers to help identify and track cryptocurrency transactions.
The dedicated team of specialists will co-operate with tax officials to “explore common queries and practical issues” which involves transactions using the digital “distributed” ledgers that have no central data storage, a case which has made it difficult to trace and track in the past.
The report also highlighted that the ATO is working closely with the banks, Austrac and state revenue offices who are responsible for revenue collection on property transactions.
Cryptocurrency spruikers who are also cashing in on the buyer hysteria with inaccurate or misleading information are also in the crosshairs of the task force.
“We are consulting with key stakeholders who have expressed an interest in tax issues relating to cryptocurrencies,” a spokesman for the ATO told the AFR.
“We will discuss common queries and scenarios, practical issues and the tax implications for current and anticipated future developments in relation to cryptocurrencies.”
Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are currently unrecognised as money or foreign currency for tax purposes. They instead fall under assets where they can be used to calculate capital gains tax.
Essentially the ATO will be looking at ways of how to tax transactions and identify liabilities in the era of cryptocurrency trading.
As an example outlined by the article:
“A property seller receiving $1 million in cash may have to pay tax on the profit at the end of the tax year based on the sale being completed for $1 million. A seller who receives $1 million in bitcoin that doubles in value from the day the property settlement takes place may have to pay CGT not only on the $1 million property sale, but potentially also on the $1 million gain on the bitcoin if it is later spent or converted to cash.”
Tax specialists have highlighted the fact that customer bank accounts can be mined by the ATO for big ticket transactions which covers property and luxury cars that often leave a cash trail for investigators to follow.

It’s called Mech Racing and it could become the future of competitive sports according to its creators.
Furrion Robotics is the team behind the 5 metre, 3.5 tonne mech known as Prosthesis which debuted at CES 2018. The machine is the the world’s first exo-bionic racing mech which is controlled entirely via human movement, hence making it less of a robot (autonomous machine) and more of a vehicle or exoskeleton.
The imposing frame of Prosrthesis can currently reach speeds of up to 30km/h with the ability to overcome obstacles and run for up to an hour on a single charge.
To accelerate annihilation technical progress the team behind Furrion have announced the X1 Mech Racing League in the hopes of cementing mech racing as a bonafide sports practice.
Obviously these people weren’t fans of Terminator.

A luxury billiard set. Now that’s something you don’t see every day. And that’s why Louis Vuitton have taken it into their own accord into creating it.
With London Fashion Week Men’s FW18 currently in full swing and Paris Fashion Week set to follow, the fashion label’s artistic director, Kim Jones, took to Instagram to reveal what they’ll be revealing.
The LV luxury billiard set is by far one of the most attention-grabbing additions to the men’s show. It will feature a red and white table wearing LV’s iconic monogrammed flower motif along with a ball set individually marked with LV symbols. Even the cue ball gets the flashy LV treatment with the Parisian label’s insignia stamped onto it.
The official LV release will be shown in its entirety in about a week’s time. For now one can only envy and prepare their bank accounts.

Since breaking cover mid-last year, the Rolls-Royce’s SUV project dubbed the Cullinan has been kept under close covers.
Well it would appear that the holidays are officially over with engineers spotted testing the prototype SUV on the Nurburgring this week in an attempt to ride the curtails of the high demand for luxury soft roaders today.
Rolls-Royce will be facing some stiff competition though with the current crop of highly capable SUVs including the record-breaking Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV and Lamborghini’s Urus all vying to take the crown of practical performance.
The Cullinan will borrow some of its underpinnings from the Phantom including the big V12 engine, modified aluminium platform and interior design whilst the “high-riding” vehicle’s weight will be rather hefty at around two tonnes – not exactly a Nurburgring-suitable figure.
We’ll let you be the judge of that with the video below.

Well the proof is finally here. Millions of people are officially paying for love online in a movement that was previously unheard of.
Since its inception, popular dating apps such as Tinder have introduced a new language of rejection to its legions of users. Rather than settling with simply being dumped, hopeful singles now have to face being ghosted, breadcrumbed or blocked.
Tinder is aware of this social injustice and have begun charging its users to alleviate the sting of the shut down – that is, for a price. Tinder will begin showing users the people who liked them before they even swipe.
The member’s only service forms part of Tinder Gold, the dating app’s premium service which also provides Passport, Rewind, Unlimited Likes, five Super Likes per day, and one Boost per month.
This commercial move in the game of love essentially reinforces the trend of free-to-use apps introducing charges to its users for extra features, much like the strategy that many of the existing mobile games have been employing.
So how much is Tinder making from the thirstiness of users? Whilst Tinder is free, accessing the extra features requires Tinder Gold which commands a fee of approximately AU$30 a month.
Multiply that with the 2.5 million paid Tinder users from around the world and you have $75 million in online subscription-based revenue.
From this we can denote another long-believed truth. Love is damn expensive.
