Flight Attendant Warns Of The Foods You Should Never Eat On A Plane
Flight Attendant Warns Of The Foods You Should Never Eat On A Plane

Flight attendant Kat Kamalani has taken to TikTok to warn of the things you should never eat on a plane if you can avoid it. She claims the water tanks are never cleaned and are disgusting, so you shouldn’t drink the tea or coffee. Other experts say you should avoid the pasta and bread rolls, fruity snack bars and alcohol, if you want to arrive feeling fresh at your destination.

You may think flights are a time to kick back and relax. But guess what: they are also a time to get neurotic. If this sounds like you, and you spend those erstwhile hours thinking of problems, then boy do we have a video for you.

Enter: flight attendant and TikTok star Kat Kamalani. In a video emblazoned with the text “do not eat these things on a plane,” Kamalani claims that the water tanks on planes are disgusting and that, for this reason, you rarely see flight attendants drinking tea or coffee. She also says that, though small parts are, the whole machine is never cleaned. Oh, and they are next to the bathrooms.

It’s so bad that she recommends you get bottled water “if you need to make your baby a bottle” of something (while requesting hot water in a cup). Other TikTok users, who claim to be flight attendants, pointed out that not all airlines are like this, and many social media users made comments to the effect of “I’m always drinking the tea and coffee, and I’m not dead yet.”

Regardless of how aeroplane sanitary practices intrigue (or bore) you, what will definitely impact your energy levels and general health is the food you choose to eat (or not eat) when at 40,000ft.

To that end, celebrity chef Toby Puttock shared some top notch advice with DMARGE about bad airline food. Puttock told DMARGE some people take this so seriously they don’t eat anything on board.

“I’ve met a lot of people that won’t eat airline food full stop and instead will take their own little packed lunches or dinners.”

Toby Puttock

Puttock explained to DMARGE that, because you are more sedentary than usual during flights, your digestive system isn’t processing food as quickly as it is on the ground.

This means if you stuff yourself with pasta, bread rolls, noodles or rice, you’re inviting your body to be bloated. Add jetlag to the mix and this is not a comfortable way to end your flight.

Dr. Charles Platkin, executive director of the Hunter College NYC Food Policy Center, reviewed a number of airline meals, and came to a similar conclusion. He warned The Sun that high carbohydrate foods won’t fill you up, and will also leave you feeling lethargic when arriving at your destination.

Puttock also says you should be wary of salted pretzels, nuts and alcohol, as these products can dehydrate you (it’s easier to get dehydrated at altitude). He also told us fruity snack bars are basically just a sugar rush (not healthy on the ground or in the air, really, unless you’re running a marathon or something).

CNBC also reports that safety experts have said you should avoid dairy products, ice, deli meats, raw fruits and vegetables, rice and seafood on flights.

Will Shiba Inu Recover When Bitcoin Recovers?
Will Shiba Inu Recover When Bitcoin Recovers?

Shiba Inu (SHIB) is no longer just another sh*tcoin. The token has rallied majorly over the past 24 hours, which has investors once-again wondering whether the dog-inspired cryptocurrency can make a solid long-term recovery.

Despite being down nearly 85% from its all-time-high back in October last year, SHIB has staged an impressive rally over the past 24 hours, currently up 25% at the time of writing.

SHIB 1-Year Price Chart — CoinMarketCap

Now, if you’re still a holder of the the popular “memecoin” Shiba Inu (SHIB) then you’re probably wondering what chance SHIB has at making a solid recovery to pre-crypto-crash prices.

Even though the crypto market is still very much a Wild West — with tokens swinging up and down in price like mad (LUNA just plummeted 97% in 6 days) — the market still moves in sync with Bitcoin (BTC).

So, if investors are betting on SHIB making a proper recovery, they’re going to have to wait for large-cap crypto assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum to start posting gains again. Which brings us to the following question: when will the cryptocurrency market stop falling?

To answer this, DMARGE asked eToro’s Australian market analyst, Josh Gilbert, just what it would take for the crypto market to start landing investors in the green again.

Gilbert said that:

“The macro environment must fundamentally improve, with less ‘bad’ news. Not only have many investors been shifting away from risk assets, [most] of the ‘good’ news… has been overshadowed.”

“Nonetheless, if we see inflation start to ease and stabilize, we could potentially see a relief rally with inflation ‘peaking’ and the Federal Reserve’s tightening expectations fully priced in, Gilbert continued.

On the other, more optimistic side of the fence was Carlos Gomez, the chief investment officer at Belobaba crypto hedge fund, who said that graph (pictured below) shows a “clearly coordinated movement of most of the large holders in a specific 24-hour-window.”

https://twitter.com/hedgefundcarlos/status/1524524056166473728

This exact pattern hasn’t occurred since the major crypto rally, which according to Gomez means that crypto investors might be closer to the bottom of the current crash than they realize.

SHIB: No Longer a Shitcoin

Regardless of macro market conditions, there’s been a lot of good news for holders of SHIB. The token has been taking considerable steps towards having real utility in the crypto space, which makes it quite difficult to continue calling it a “sh*tcoin”.

The Shiba Inu team recently revealed that the SHIB token can now be used to mint parcels of virtual land in the Shiba Inu metaverse project called “SHIB: The Metaverse.”

Developers also launched a SHIB burning portal called ShibBurn, which has seen more than 22.5 billion SHIB, roughly $500,000 at the time of writing, removed from circulation. Since SHIB’s creation, nearly 410.32 trillion SHIB — 41% of the total supply — has now been burned, something which helps drive the price of the remaining SHIB upwards.

At the end of the day, if you believe that the SHIB community can rally together to create an interesting and unique metaverse project, and you’re still holding out hope that Elon might make the occasional SHIB-themed tweet, holding onto or buying some more SHIB might not be the worst idea…

Simple Lifestyle Changes That Will Make Your Health ‘10 Times Better’
Simple Lifestyle Changes That Will Make Your Health ‘10 Times Better’

Max Lugavere – author of a New York Times bestseller and former science journalist – has shared easy things that you can do each day to improve your health by “10x,” apparantly…

Health and wellness writer, Max Lugavere has taken to Instagram to reveal five simple things you can do that he claims will improve the quality of your life by ten. And they really are simple.

The first is what we all know but can be bad at putting into actual practice: getting seven to nine hours of sleep each night. Most health experts agree that sleeping for at least seven hours – especially deep sleep, which you can easily achieve by following this guide – is vital to optimal health.

Lugavere’s second tip is to eat more animal protein; “especially beef and eggs” – sorry vegans. As a best-selling New York Times author of multiple nutrition-focused cookbooks, Lugavere highly recommends people check out his books for recipes that’ll allow people to “have more energy, think better, feel better, and maybe even live longer.”

The third simple lifestyle change that Lugavere recommends is to cut back on your cardio and instead focus on strength training. So, if you’re a gym junkie who loves hitting the treadmill, you may want to start grabbing some weights instead…

Lugavere also suggests that “regular heat and cold stress” is something that’ll improve your health. By this, he means that you should frequently expose your body to both high temperatures – by sitting back in a sauna – and low temperatures – by taking ice baths or cold showers.

Lastly, Lugavere suggests getting a daily dose of sunlight. Neuroscientist, Dr Andrew D. Huberman – who has his own simple ‘health hacks’ for optimal mental and physical health – would agree with this, as he regularly advocates how important exposing yourself to morning sunlight is as it sets your circadian rhythm and improves your mood and ability to focus.

Instagram users flooded Lugavere’s post with comments, praising his simple advice. One user wrote, “Doing all of these! Feeling better in my 50’s than I did in my 40’s!” while another shared, “Yep..sauna and strength training 3-4x a week has been a game-changer for me.”

So, there you have it. If you’re wanting to improve your health, why not give these lifestyle changes a go? Although, we understand if you skip the ice bath tip…

Best Australian Whiskey Brands 2022
Best Australian Whiskey Brands 2022

We spend a lot of time here at DMARGE waxing lyrical about the world’s best beverages and none has received a more resounding reception than old mate, whisky.

The distilled alcoholic drink that started life in Europe before making its way to the U.S and Japan relies on various specific grains and wooden casks to achieve a distinct flavour profile that fans seek out. When further paired with the ageing constant known as time, magic often happens. Not to mention, it’s the base ingredient for the world-famous Old Fashioned cocktail.

Today we’re not looking purely at the unattainable though. It’s all about taste, accessibility and Australia’s best-valued whisky that won’t send you broke. We’ve also tapped the mind and experience of Martin Eber of Time For Whisky on this one to ensure that the local selection is on point for any palate.

Australia’s Finest Whisky FAQ

Which is the biggest whisky-producing region in Australia?

Tasmania has the largest concentration of whisky distilleries in Australia. Other whisky-producing regions are New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia.

What is the typical style of Australian whisky?

Australian whisky has a distinctive taste because distillers are not locked into traditional production rules and don't have to follow established styles like other whisky-producing countries.

What is the most produced style of whisky in Australia?

The majority of whisky produced in Australia is the single malt. The country also produces multiple styles of whisky, including single malt, rye, wheat and blended whiskies.

Opinion: All Business Class Seats Should Have Sliding Doors
Opinion: All Business Class Seats Should Have Sliding Doors

All business class suites should have sliding doors, and I won’t hear otherwise. This is because they give privacy, are not an inconvenience (as some people say), and don’t even translate to that much greater cost for passengers.

We’ve had some controversial opinions here at DMARGE. We’ve said kids shouldn’t be allowed in business class. We’ve said road cyclists don’t look cool (going out on a limb there, I know). We’ve even said that floating breakfasts are not all they’re cracked up to be.

But today we have had what is, in our opinion, a fairly mild opinion. One that is quite hard to – from a passenger point of view – protest against. That opinion? All business class seats should have sliding doors.

Qatar Airways already has them (see: The QSuite), Delta has them (see: the Delta One Suites) and British Airways and Etihad are rolling it out. Air France also just unveiled a new business class with sliding doors, too.

Qatar Airways’ Qsuite. Image Credit: Airline Ratings.

But the rest of the pack have not yet followed, perhaps due to cost, and perhaps due to the fact that some business class passengers don’t appear to care whether or not their suite has a sliding door.

Some passengers have even complained (on online forums) that sliding doors are claustrophobic and not worth the extra cost (which the airline pays in installing them and which is then presumably passed on to the customer).

But when we look at business class suites like that on Singapore Airlines’ A380s, or Cathay Pacific, or Emirates, some of which can be turned into ‘love nests’ (internally, with the seat next to them), it seems absurd that there is no option for an outside divider.

Singapore Airlines’ A380 business class. No sliding doors in sight.

Even if many business class passengers spend most of the flight with their sliding doors pushed back, they are a gold mine for making you feel safe and secure, and to give you privacy while you sleep. Above all: they are an option (not something foisted upon you, which you have to use).

They’re also not even that much more expensive. One way business class Sydney to London flights on Qatar Airways, for instance, on the 1st of August, are currently being sold for $11,052. There are also multiple other business class fares (from Sydney to London) that day for $7,300 on Qatar Airways (and on the days next to it) for $6,400.

A Singapore Airlines business class fare (which does not have sliding doors), one way, from Sydney to London, on the 1st of August, however, at the time of writing, costs $10,488 (there are also a couple for $8,063). Singapore Airlines also has a first/suites option for $11,000 or so. But from a passenger point of view, we would like to humbly suggest that they just add sliding doors to all their business class seats too…

Ferrari Purosangue Is A Gas Guzzling Monster
Ferrari Purosangue Is A Gas Guzzling Monster

2022 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Ferrari fans. A new 296 GTB has just been released, Charles Leclerc is leading the Formula 1 World Championship, and now, the very first Ferrari SUV is on its way. But it’s not all sunshine and daisies, especially where the latter’s powertrain is concerned.

Back in 2018, Ferrari controversially confirmed they would jump on the SUV bandwagon with their very own high-performance crossover, which has been tentatively named the Purosangue (Italian for ‘pure-blooded’ or ‘thoroughbred’, and named after a noble Italian horse breed).

Ferrari has previously been quite tight-lipped about the Purosangue’s development, and only a scant few spy shots of the car have broken cover. Last week, however, Chief Executive Benedetto Vigna shone some more light on the Purosangue project, and while he wouldn’t talk price or production figures, he did confirm that it will be powered by a V12 engine.

“We’ve tested several options, it was clear that the V12, for the performance and driving experience it could provide, was the right option for the market,” Vigna said during a sales call, as reported by Reuters.

It’s a departure from form for Ferrari, who’s previously been trying to focus on smaller, less polluting powertrains as well as electrification with plug-in hybrid models. It begs the question: has Ferrari missed the sustainability memo? Or are they just being as stubborn as old man Enzo?

The Purosangue’s engine will likely be a derivation of Ferrari’s excellent F140 V12, which has been in production since 2002 and was first used in the Enzo Ferrari. Road & Track reckon the teased engine’s intake plenum looks a lot like that of the 812 Competizione’s V12.

“Outputs for the new (likely 6.5L) V12 are still to be confirmed [but] rumours suggest upwards of 610kW – making it one of the most powerful SUVs on sale, if not the most powerful fuelled by petrol,” Drive reports.

RELATED: Brave American Man Uses Rare $4 Million Ferrari Enzo As Daily Driver

Crucially, this means it’s got more cylinders than what will be its biggest rival – Lamborghini’s Urus SUV – which ‘only’ has a twin-turbo V8.

But it’s a somewhat head-scratching choice to keep using a V12 when many other luxury and performance brands (Lotus, Maserati, McLaren and Porsche just to name a few) are moving towards smaller engine configurations, displacements and electrification.

Don’t get us wrong: we think V12s are great. They sound great, they look great, and they have many qualities that make them well-suited to performance and luxury car applications. We can’t help but feel, however, that plonking a V12 in the Purosangue somewhat undoes some of the good work Ferrari has been doing with introducing plug-in hybrid powertrains and the like.

The Ferrari SF90 Stradale, the brand’s first-ever hybrid car. Image: Top Gear

Drive also speculations that the Purosangue will be available with plug-in hybrid power, using either the 296 GTB’s new 3.0L twin-turbo V6, or one of Ferrari’s familiar 3.9 or 4.0L twin-turbo V8s, such as the one that powers the SF90 Stradale. There’s also talk of an all-electric model, though this isn’t expected to arrive until around 2024 or 2025.

So perhaps the V12 is just a ‘stop-gap’ until Ferrari can get their act together when it comes to proper electrification? Either way, we’re still not sure.

Of course, Ferrari’s latest F1 car, the F1-75, is powered by a 1.6L turbo V6 with a hybrid powertrain consisting of both kinetic and thermal energy recovery systems (the often-discussed MGU-K and MGU-H respectively). So at least there’s progress being made on that front.

‘¡Ay, Caramba!’: A Succession & The Simpsons Crossover Episode Is Coming
‘¡Ay, Caramba!’: A Succession & The Simpsons Crossover Episode Is Coming

The Simpsons is not afraid of a crossover. In Season 6, the episode A Star Is Burns (“I was saying Boo-urns”) was a crossover with the animated show, The Critic, as was the Season 13 episode, The Simpsons Guy and the Season 26 episode, Simpsorama – which crossed over with Family Guy and Futurama respectively.

Over the years, The Simpsons has also parodied popular television shows and then had the stars of those shows guest star and voice the same characters they’re famous for playing.

For example, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson voiced their respective characters – Fox Mulder and Dana Scully – from The X Files in the Season 8 episode The Springfield Files and Keifer Sutherland voiced Jack Bauer, the character he plays in 24, in the Season 18 episode, 24 Minutes.

Well, now the popular black-comedy drama series, Succession is getting The Simpsons treatment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the latest Simpsons episode, that’s airing this weekend on May 15th, will have Nicholas Braun – one of the stars of Succession – guest star.

Charli D’Amelio, the TikTok star, will also guest star in the new Simpsons episode, Meat Is Murder. Image Credit: Fox

Not only this, Braun will be voicing his fan-favourite character, cousin Greg in the episode; called Meat Is Murder. While there haven’t been too many details about the episode’s plot revealed (aside from that it’ll revolve around Grampa reconnecting with an old business associate) it’s likely that the episode will parody Succession.

Plus, the episode has a number of impressive actors joining Braun in guest star roles. Oscar-nominee and veteran actor John Lithgow will be voicing Grampa’s business associate – who is supposed to be a satirised version of Succession character, Logan Cox.

Krysten Ritter, best known for Breaking Bad and Jessica Jones, and Seth Green, best known for Robot Chicken, Family Guy & Austin Powers, will also guest star in the upcoming Simspons episode, Meat Is Murder as will TikTok star Charli D’Amelio.

While The Simpsons has been known to be hit and miss in its later seasons, it looks like this new episode is definitely going to be a hit; especially with Succession fans.

Danny Boyle Reveals What He Would’ve Done With James Bond: No Time To Die
Danny Boyle Reveals What He Would’ve Done With James Bond: No Time To Die

Danny Boyle, who was originally going to direct No Time To Die, would have set the film in Russia, had he not left over ‘creative differences.’

Danny Boyle, a renowned filmmaker best known for directing Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours, was originally going to direct Daniel Craig’s last James Bond film, No Time To Die.

Boyle signed on in 2018 with John Hodge – his long-standing screenwriting partner – but just three months later, both Boyle and Hodge left No Time To Die and Cary Joji Fukunaga took over as director.

It was announced that Boyle and Hodge quit due to ‘creative differences’ – the old faithful Hollywood excuse – but it was rumoured that the two stepped away from No Time To Die because they wanted Bond to die, and longtime Bond producer, Barbara Broccoli and Eon Productions (the production company that owns the rights to James Bond) were not on board with that particular storyline.

Obviously, now that we know that Bond (spoiler!) did die in the film, that mustn’t have been the ‘creative difference’ between Boyle & Hodge and Broccoli & Eon Productions. Well, in an interview with Esquire UK, Boyle revealed his and Hodge’s original plan for No Time To Die – and if they had gotten their way, the film would’ve been set in Russia.

“Weirdly – it would have been very topical now – it was all set in Russia, which is of course where Bond came from, out of the Cold War. It was set in present-day Russia and went back to his origins, and [Eon Productions] just lost, what’s the word… they just lost confidence in it.”

Danny Boyle

While Boyle admitted it was “a shame” that he left the Bond film, he has no regrets; especially since he was nervous about signing on to direct No Time To Die in the first place. This is because it’s a part of a huge franchise and franchises have never really been Boyle’s bag.

“I remember thinking, ‘Should I really get involved in franchises?’ Because they don’t really want something different. They want you to freshen it up a bit, but not really challenge it, and [Hodge and I] wanted to do something different with it.”

Danny Boyle

Boyle also revealed that the plot twist ending of Bond being a father actually started out as one of Hodge’s ideas. Apparently, Hodge thought it would be interesting for Bond to have a child but that’s as fleshed out as the idea got while he and Boyle were still working on No Time To Die.

Boyle did, however, praise Fukunaga and writers Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and Phoebe Waller-Bridge for the different approach they took to Hodge’s original idea.

“The idea that they used in a different way was the one of [James Bond’s] child, which [Hodge] introduced [and which] was wonderful.”

Danny Boyle

As for whether Boyle will ever sign on to direct a future Bond film with a brand new actor playing the beloved 007 spy, Boyle was quite quick to answer with, “I don’t think so.”
