Denim will always be a staple in the fashion world and whilst the iconic name in Levi’s has grown slightly tired amongst today’s staunch competition, there’s no denying that the brand is ahead of the game when it comes to innovation.
The American company recently revealed a new digitising technique which employs lasers to achieve the perfect finish on denim in record time without the use of harmful chemicals or intensive manual labour.
Named Project FLX (Future LED Execution), the program showcases the future of mass produced jeans which consolidates a traditionally 24-step process into just 3 steps.
“Our first step in the new process is to photograph the jean, and then we take that and illustrate it in a way that the laser can interpret,” says Bart Sights, Levi’s VP in technical innovation.
“So what used to happen traditionally 8, 10, 12 minutes with manual applications, we can now execute with the laser in 90 seconds or so.”
Laser washing isn’t exactly new technology as it’s been around for a few years. Levi’s however is one of the first companies to realistically attempt to implement it across their supply chain and business model.

As seen in the video, the lasers work by using infrared light to scorch the surface of the fabric to achieve the perfect finish design. We don’t use the term ‘perfect’ lightly either. Computer aided imaging tools are first used to create patterns and finishes. This can include everything from strategically placed colour fade to tears to abrasions.
Once the prototype 3D mock-up of the jean is complete, designers send the specs through to the lasers which then do their work on the jeans. Think of it like 3D printing but for denim.
There’s also an environmental incentive for Levi’s inheriting this technology. The company is set on achieving a “zero discharge of hazardous chemicals by 2020,” and adds that this laser-based technology will help them reduce the number of chemicals used in the denim process from a few thousand to just a few dozen.
At the output end, it also benefits Levi’s as their development time will be halved from months to just weeks and possibly days.
Levi’s Star Wars-inpspired jeans factory is aiming for a 2020 launch. Until then, you can keep occupied with robot strippers and male sex dolls designed to steal your lovers.

One wouldn’t know it thanks to a year’s worth of teasing and spyshots, but these are the official images of the I-Pace, Jaguar‘s first ever fully-electric performance SUV.
The battery-powered five-seater broke cover ahead of the Geneva Motor Show and it looks to be in fine form even with the absence of a signature Jaguar exhaust note.
Like the Tesla Model X they’re going after, the I-Pace is powered by dual electric motors fitted to the front and rear axles to create the standard all-wheel-drive layout. The spec sheet claims that the car can reach 0-100km/h in 4.8 seconds thanks to the combined 290kW output of the motors which also comes with a hefty 695Nm of torque.
RELATED: You Can Now Buy One Of The Most Beautiful Jaguars Ever Created
The beauty of the I-Pace lies in the range though. The company claims that there’s enough juice to cover 480km per single charge – 5km more than the Tesla Model X’s official EPA range.
Additionally, the I-Pace can recharge 80 percent of its battery capacity in just 40 minutes via a 100kW fast charger.
In the driving dynamics department, Jaguar have stressed about retaining the “soul” of the marque even though it’s an entirely new platform. Thanks in part to the input of legendary designer Ian Callum, the I-Pace is able to benefit from a sleek body which boasts a 50:50 weight distribution and a low centre of gravity. This all translates to better handling prowess during spirited runs with the I-Pace.
Don’t like the road surface? There’s Adaptive Dynamics in the air suspension to smooth things out when things get too rough and bumpy.
Inside the cabin drivers will be greeted with a futuristic cockpit which features an infotainment interface borrowed over from the Range Rover Velar. Amazon Alexa Skill will also be on board to help keep the car’s software and features up to date.
Australians interested in getting behind the wheel of one will need to wait until October 2018 where it arrives in showrooms with a starting price of AU$119,000.

His gaze is unshakable, as if he was actually enthralled by the recount of your wife’s day. Abs? He’s got eight of them. Broodish good looks? He’s got them too. And when it comes to manners, he only speaks when spoken to. Meet Henry, the world’s first male sex robot designed to steal your girl and thunder in one swift move. Batteries included.Henry is a product of Realbotix, the Californian-based company which specialises in making hyper realistic sex robots. Previously, the company only focused on producing female sex robots for lonely men but have since moved their attention to male sex robots for women in need of companionship.“Women have the same issues of loneliness as men. People call them sex dolls but mostly it’s about companionship. In this world of computers people are missing out on human interaction,” explains Matt McMullen, the CEO of Realbotix and creators of Henry. In the aesthetic realm, companionship comes in the form of options. And Henry has quite a few. Every component of the robot can be customised from the overall appearance including hair, height and build to the size and shape of its penis. Henry’s developers are currently working on a way to make the latter fully robotic.RELATED: We’ve Got Some Bad News If You Watch Porn On Your PhoneMost importantly though, Henry is no one trick pony. With a price tag in the region of AU$14,000 and AU$20,000, Henry can also interact with its owner by welcoming them home in their accent of choice before having a conversation about why reality television is such a joke. Heck, he can even tell its master jokes and drop romantic pickup lines like a pro.Are we worried yet? You should be.Whilst users will still need to lug Henry around to the bedroom, it’s only a matter of time before robotic development will be advanced enough to have Henry hitting on your wife.Harvard University mathematics expert Dr Cathy O’Neil explained to the Daily Mail that Henry might be good for women as well as men.“What’s not to love about a dashing manbot? It’s possible they will out-perform men in certain areas, not just in the bedroom. Perhaps that will encourage men to up their game and find out what women really want. And if they can teach him to give a massage and take out the rubbish, all the better.”Take a look at what Robotix have done in the past with the video below.

Melbourne is on a roll in 2018 with another luxury watch brand calling the city home for the first time in Australia.
Italian luxury watchmaker Officine Panerai is the latest name to take up residency in the iconic Collins Street shopping precinct. The store which spans 60 square metres is designed by Spanish architect Patricia Urquiola and faithfully reflects the unique aesthetic of Panerai timepieces – think bronze, marble and lots of organic brown hues paired with subtle hints of steel to emphasise Panerai’s vintage and pioneering roots.

And just incase guests forget what boutique they’re in, there’s a giant Panerai wall clock which takes after the brand’s signature watch dial.
Those keen to get acquainted with new collection can head over to the boutique now which is located at 360 Collins Street in the Melbourne CBD.

The future of high speed commuting is inching closer with Virgin this week unveiling their first prototype passenger seats for the Hyperloop One project.
Once completed the pod will be able to transport passengers from Dubai in Abu Dhabi in just 12 minutes – a trip which usually takes over 3 hours by air. Guests of the unveiling were treated to a futuristically-lit cabin accommodating up to 10 people. As a completed service, the Hyperloop One project will look to ferry up to 10,000 passengers per hour to and from Dubai.
Inside the pod resides beautifully sculpted seats which don’t look out of place of a sci-fi movie. There’s even soft blue and red neon lighting slathered throughout the space to reinforce the fact that passengers are sitting in something a bit more special than business class. If the aesthetics look familiar then you’re not wrong.
The sleek design of the cream and beige leather seats come complements of BMW, according to Dubai newspaper Khaleej Times. Those looking to fight for the window seat needn’t apply though.
“There will be no windows. However, there will be interactive entertainment screens at the armrest of the seats. The seats have been designed in a very futuristic manner,” Abdulredha Abu Alhassan, executive director at the RTA, told the Khaleej Times.
The publication also revealed that the pods will be split into two classes with a Gold Class seating 5 passengers and a Silver Class seating 14.
Hyperloop One was originally the brainchild of Elon Musk‘s Tesla and Space X companies in 2013 but has since been sold to Richard Branson’s Virgin. Whilst the billionaire entrepreneur is no longer directly involved in the Hyperloop’s development, the high speed transport system is still slated for a 2020 launch.
Magnetic levitation technology was utilised in a low pressure tube to achieve the desired speeds that the pods could travel in. In August 2017 the Virgin team successfully carried out the first full-scale Hyperloop run, sending a pod to speeds of 305km/h in just 5 seconds before coming to a safe stop.
Their longest test duration to date has been 10.6 seconds at a maximum distance of 436 metres, so there’s still a fair way to go. Nonetheless the future is looking gnarly.

Porsche have their 911 GT2 RS. McLaren have their 720S. In that same accord, it’s due time that Ferrari joined the track contention and they’ve done so with the new 488 Pista (that’s Italian for ‘Track’).
Whilst unfortunately named for the uninitiated, the track-friendly car does come with the most powerful V8 engine to ever come out from the Maranello camp. In sheer numbers it’s a frothy bit of reading. A tuned version of the 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 found in the 488 GTB now makes 530kW of power at a lofty 8,000rpm and 770Nm of torque. That’s enough grunt to see the Pista take down the 0-100km/h sprint in just 2.8 seconds before topping out at 340km/h.
The car’s refinement also extends beyond the power plant with a 90kg reduction in weight paired with an angrier aero setup. The front splitter draws inspiration directly from the 488 GTE race car and there’s even a new cooling setup which sucks air from the nose before exhausting via a heavily vented bonnet.
Even the rear duckbill wing has been tweaked to give it twenty percent more downforce than the standard 488 GTB. If that’s not enough to convince you of its intentions, the interior should do the trick. The heavily bolstered Alcantara seats also come with a pair of racing harnesses.
Those looking to go full Stig can opt for the deep pocket option consisting of carbon fibre wheels which will set buyers back AU$28,000 on top of the estimated AU$645,000 sticker price.

Your deadly online shopping habit is about to get worse (or better, depending on your perspective) with Amazon announcing the arrival of their Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) program in Australia.
The signature delivery business is designed specifically for third-party sellers and customers who want to dispatch and receive their goods quicker with added reliability. To do this, Amazon will pack and ship products on behalf of their Australian merchants as part of the FBA program.
The move forms part of the next phase for Amazon’s expansion into the country regardless of its much lacklustre debut last year. Amazon Prime, the e-commerce giant’s paid subscription service which provides users with extra benefits like discounts, deals and streaming video will also be rolled out locally in mid-2018.
This two stage introduction is nothing new and has already been established in other countries with a dedicated Amazon marketplace. Amazon’s decision to launch FBA reinforces its confidence in Australia Post, the e-commerce site’s delivery partner, who has thus far struggled to meet Amazon’s shipping time estimates to more remote regions of the country.
Melbourne is currently home to Amazon’s expansive distribution warehouse so another one on the west coast should serve them better if the FBA program proves to be a success.

Conor McGregor‘s name might have been made in the ring, but these days he’s also a contender for best dressed man (who could also break your legs). His style reflects his brash, ‘give-no-fucks’ presence, whether he’s spending quality time with his kid or trash-talking his way through a press conference. Here, we break down some of McGregor’s key looks and give you a taste of how this ex-plumber has gone from featherweight champion to one of the most stylish gents of the decade.
Breaking Down McGregor’s Style
The big man isn’t beholden to any style ‘rules’ or conventions, but there’s a few consistencies across his various looks that are worth mentioning.Almost without exception, McGregor wears everything in a slim fit. It never looks like he’s being strangled or about to pop a seam, but it makes the most of his athletic physique. He avoids embarrassing pattern clashes, and tends to stick to one big pattern backed up by plain colours.Lastly, he always wears good, clean shoes that are as expensive as the rest of his outfit – he doesn’t cheap out at the last second. In saying that, he’s Conor McGregor. He can and does break any of those as he likes.
Suit Ex Machina
McGregor favours the traditional three-piece suit, not that we’d argue with him on that. This grey three piece features a subtle Prince of Wales check, vastly improved by the addition of a purple tie and pocket hankie.Note the little things: he shows a little bit of shirt cuff, the waistcoat isn’t too long or too short, and the lapels are proportionate to his tie. He’s done his homework. Now, look at the bloke next to him – who would you rather be? (not who would you rather fight in an alleyway).
Smart Casual Killer
For all its bluster, McGregor’s style is unusual in that most of what he wears can go with other wardrobe staples.McGregor’s opted for a matching cream shirt and trouser combo, stuck to his general rule of one pattern over a plain pair of trousers. The monster sunnies add a bit of swagger than not many blokes can pull off, but we wouldn’t be surprised if he subbed out the lager for a diet coke. The biggest draw is the silver and gold Patek, indicating he knows a good watch when he sees one.Just remember to button up the shirt if you go for a similar look.
Irish Iron Man
Shorts so short your uncle that played footy in the 70’s would blush, and sneakers (Air Max?) so white you wonder if they only left the box for the photo.
McGregor’s gym style doesn’t include any rubbish Tap Out shirts, back to front caps, or hoodies ‘so he can warm up properly’. He could kick your arse in ten different ways and the way he dresses training for the big day reflects that.
Our only question – how does he plan to kick people so high in those shorts? (We’ll leave it to a braver man to ask).
The Statement Piece
Statement pieces are a staple to McGregor like white shirts and fresh socks are to us mere mortals.
Here, he’s gone for a floral bomber with matching dog embroidery on the front (Gucci, who else?) but he’s been careful to contrast it with a plain white shirt, jeans, and white sneakers.
Everything is built around the jacket, and he doesn’t try to cram prints in anywhere else. He could get rid of the jacket and look like a normal (albeit tattooed and shredded as f**k) bloke in a flash.
Floral Pants
McGregor is a student of the ‘business up top, party down below’ ideology. Here, McGregor wears a (really snug) black shirt to contrast some bold and beautiful floral pants, both by his partner in crime David August.
Note the colour coordination and finishing touch with Gucci slides. It’s a brave man that can dress on this wavelength, and we wouldn’t be surprised if he got some inspo from Nick Wooster (the modern architect of funny pants).
August x McGregor
Conor McGregor, and only Conor McGregor, can put naughty words and custom suits together.
At first glance, this David August suit resembles your typical corporate nine-to-fiver look. He starts with a pink tie and matching lapel flower, which is a little too coordinated for our tastes, but otherwise, everything else is on point. A crisp white shirt, quirky ticket pocket, monk strap shoes, and a slim cut could see him as a law or finance guy in another life. The only obstacle to that illusion? The ‘pinstripes’ happen to spell out his thoughts about Floyd Mayweather, in typical McGregorian understatement. We haven’t seen it replicated, but it’s only a matter of time. McGregor is set to launch a collaboration label with August sometime soon, so we wouldn’t be surprised if we see stuff like this in the future.
