Apple Watch Series 2 Is Going After The Gym Junkies
Apple Watch Series 2 Is Going After The Gym Junkies

The iPhone 7 wasn’t the only device Apple had up its sleeve in their latest keynote. The second generation Apple Watch also made its debut with a host of practical new features which is aimed directly at the fitness crowd.

On the agenda for the Apple Watch Series 2 is a new water resistance functionality which allows it to go swimming in waters of up to 50 metres deep. That’s a massive feat for a tech company traditionally focused on apps and user convenience than actual watch functionality.

The entire case of the watch is sealed except for the speaker unit which can automatically drain water after soaking exercise routine. On the topic of cases, the watch will come in a variation of colours including aluminium, stainless steel and a super robust white ceramic.

The sport edition of the Apple Watch Series 2 will be available in silver, space grey, rose gold and gold hues accompanied by a host of contemporary coloured bands.

Branching out even further into the lucrative fitness world is Apple’s latest collaboration with Nike. The Apple Watch Nike+ will boast features specifically for runners to coincide with the sporting giant’s Nike+ Run Club. This means a Nike Sport band made from flexible fluoroelastomer in a perforated finish for better ventilation and sweat management.

On the usability front the Apple Watch Nike+ features two exclusive watch faces which is inspired by Nike’s sporting heritage style. The faces can be personalised with apps such as Activity Rings, Heart Rate, Stopwatch and Weather, helping runners stay informed with a glance of the wrist.

Looking behind the technical specs, the new Apple Watch Series 2 will come with a brighter display, built-in GPS and a S2 dual core processor which claims to be fifty percent faster than the outgoing model’s.

Apple Watch Series 2 will start at AU$529 and be available in 38mm and 42mm with colours available in gold, rose gold, space grey aluminium and space black stainless steel. The ceramic version will set you back AU$1,799 whilst the Apple Watch Nike+ will start at AU$529.

Everything You Need To Know About The New iPhone 7
Everything You Need To Know About The New iPhone 7

After endless churning of the rumour mill and leaks on what Apple‘s next generation smartphone would entail, the American tech giant has finally unveiled the iPhone 7. The verdict? It’s the boldest iteration of the iPhone to date since the departure of Steve Jobs.

But don’t let us tell you that. Here are the four main changes that users will see in the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models.

Say Goodbye To The Headphone Jack

wireless

One of the worst kept secrets of the iPhone 7 was Apple’s intention to eradicate the obsolete input to save more space. That’s what they say anyway (see below). The conventional 3.5mm audio jack takes up the most real estate on modern iPhones so it’s now gone in favour of features such as a thinner body and better water resistance capabilities.

In its place is Apple’s Lightning port which acts as the main charging port as well as the audio output and connection to other devices. Those wanting to use conventional earphones which rely on the 3.5mm jack will be glad to know that Apple have included a Lightning-to-headphone-jack adaptor for old school cord lovers. It won’t be pretty and that’s exactly why Apple is an expert at phasing things out.

Issues: Charging the iPhone whilst listening to music is now impossible even though the company is claiming “the longest battery life ever in an iPhone”.

Say Hello To Wireless Earphones

airpods

Apple says that the reason for consolidating everything into their single Lightning port was to make a better iPhone. The crowds thus far haven’t warmed to this and instead say it’s just an elaborate ploy to push more users onto their latest AirPods, Apple’s first ever wireless earphones.

On the flip side, they look fancy but sound quality and canal fitment appears to be unchanged with the same driver units and plastic housing carried over from the previous wired versions, sans the wire.

Users who go the wireless route can enjoy up to 24 hours of battery life on full juice with charging conveniently taken care of by placing the AirPods into a case. It’s intuitive too with a brand new Apple W1 chip making connectivity a breeze by automatically switching on and connecting to your device when removed from its charging case. A 15-minute quick charge affords users 3 hours of listening time.

The AirPods also feature accelerometers and optical sensors which can determine when a user pulls them out of their ear to automatically pause music. Adjusting the volume can be done via double-tapping the AirPods which activates Siri.

Issues: The cost. At AU$229 a pop, they’re not cheap. In fact they’re moving towards premium quality earphone territory, so punters will be expecting a boost in audio quality. Given the same housing design, we’re not sure if this is the case yet until the reviews come out. Also they’re easy to lose and expensive to replace.

They Heard You Like Cameras…

camera

Apple heard you like cameras so they put a camera on your camera. Seriously, they did. The standard and smaller iPhone 7 receives a better quality 12MP camera whilst the larger iPhone 7 Plus gets dual cameras on the back for some epic selfies complete with a 2x optical zoom.

Apple did this for the iPhone 7 to improve zooming, focus and stabilisation in smartphones. In technical terms that’s a 28mm wide angle lens and a 56mm telephoto lens in the same unit, bettering the standard digital zoom which can leave images grainy.

Issues: Dual cameras only come in the bigger and pricier iPhone 7 Plus.

Welcome Water & Dust Resistance

water

Playing catch up in the practicality game, Apple can finally boast about their phone surviving a toilet drop. Not that you’d use it again after that. The iPhone 7 features a water resistance rating of up to 1-metre for 30-minutes.

Due to this new design, it’s also dustproof so beach-goers won’t need to worry about the sand jamming up buttons. Not that it matters since the Home button has been deleted in place of a solid state Taptic Engine-powered virtual button. That’s fancy for a touchscreen button.

Issues: You’ll never need to place another wet iPhone into a bowl of rice grains.

Cooler Colours…At A Price

apple-iphone-7-1

Always bet on black. That’s what Wesley Snipes said in Passenger 57 and Apple have finally listened. The iPhone 7 will come in two sleek new hues: an anodised matte black and an ultra glossy jet black version. Apple says that the new jet black colour takes a nine-step process in order to achieve its deep appearance.

For the conventional user, Apple will also offer the phones in silver, gold and rose gold hues.

Issues: Apple knows how to sell ‘cool’ and this means the standard iPhone 7 set in silver, gold, rose gold and anodised black will start at AU$1,079 for their 32GB, 128GB and 256GB models. The iPhone 7 Plus in those same colour variations will start at AU$1,269.

Thinking of going jet black? You’ll need to pay more with the colour only coming in the higher spec and more expensive 128GB and 256GB versions.

The World's Most Exhilarating Roads To Drive Could Be At Your Doorstep
The World's Most Exhilarating Roads To Drive Could Be At Your Doorstep

As a young man, travelling from point A to point B was all about getting a friend to double you on their BMX.

Those days are long gone and in front of you now is a different kind of ride. It’s a little more upmarket, it has an extra set of wheels and it makes the kind of dirty noises that will make any EPA officer weep tears of disdain.

That is your big boy’s ride and these are the world’s best roads to drive it on. Grip on to that wheel and find out if these ten roads reside on your door step.

New Zealand: Skippers Canyon Road

Like Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct, Skippers Canyon is beautiful and potentially lethal. Located outside Queenstown, the gravel road is narrow and steep, with sheer drops of several hundred metres. Caution and focus are compulsory if you plan to attempt it. Though fatality numbers are relatively low, Skippers Canyon is still consistently named one of the world’s most dangerous roads.

New Zealand: Arthur’s Pass

If your adventurous side is intrigued by the words “extreme engineering,” Arthur’s Pass is a trip you can’t miss. The spectacular route through New Zealand’s southern Alps is a coast-to-coast passage across South Island, achieved via a miraculous mix of viaducts, bridges, rock shelters and waterfalls redirected into chutes. Keep an eye out for the kea, the mischievous mountain parrot with a reputation for mangling unsuspecting automobiles.

Japan: Iroha-zaka Winding Roads

Iroha-zaka is a pair of winding roads that connect the lower elevations near central Nikko to the higher elevations of the Okunikko region. Used by ascetics in a former life, the Iroha-zaka Winding Roads are composed of 48 hairpin turns, each of which corresponds to a letter of the ancient Japanese alphabet. The turns are all labelled with their respective characters, which you’ll pass in alphabetical order along your journey.

Japan: Hakone Hill Climb

The iconic Hakone Hill Climb is a bucket list item for drivers in Japan. The road took the pioneers of drifting to the remote mountain passes where the technique was born, and has a surface that’s better suited to a speedway than a normal street, making it the place to go if you want to put your skills to the test. Since it’s a privately owned toll road, odds are good that traffic will be minimal and you’ll have free range to explore its twists and turns at your own pace.

Australia: Macquarie Pass

If drivers had playgrounds, this would be it. Macquarie Pass is a treasure trove of features that make car lovers go weak in the knees. Narrow roads? Check. No centre-line? Check. Limited visibility? Check. Dangerous drop-offs? Check. Hairpin bends and steep roadways? Check and check. All that adds up to a reputation for serious accidents that may deter more timid drivers, but thrillseekers can’t miss it

Australia: Great Alpine Road

If you noticed a similarity in name to the Great Ocean Road, you’re on the right track. The Great Alpine Road is one of the best driving roads in Australia because it’s considered the mountain equivalent to Victoria’s famous oceanside route. Take this one slowly, piece by piece, to make the most of the towns, wineries, restaurants, fishing spots and scenic stops you’ll find along the way. The Alpine National Park is particularly worth a visit if you’re into Instagram-worthy flora and fauna. Drive it during Winter when it’s covered with snow and you have balls of steel.

United States: Avenue Of The Giants

No trip to Northern California is complete without a visit to the state’s famous redwood trees. For gearheads, that visit should be a fuel-driven sojourn down the Avenue of the Giants through Humboldt Redwoods State Park. The ancient trees make this a more-than worthy addition to your bucket list. They stand hundreds of feet tall and one is over 950 years old – and it’s not even the oldest in the forest. For something even more unique, the Avenue of the Giants includes three trees visitors can drive through.

United States: Tail Of The Dragon

Is this the most badass expanse of asphalt in all of America? Some would say yes. This classic destination (particularly for motorcyclists) forms a swirling ribbon through the heart of the Great Smokey Mountains in North Carolina. It’s not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach. The name comes from the road’s resemblance to a dragon’s tail when viewed on a map, which means what you’re getting is a serpentine stretch of 318 stomach-wrenching blind twists and turns. Mistakes made here are met with dire consequences, but avid drivers are undeterred.

Switzerland: Grimsel Pass

The downside: Grimsel Pass is located near the Grimsel Test Site, which is used for research into underground radioactive waste disposal. The upside: everything else. The road traverses a wild and barren mountain landscape at an elevation of 2,164 m. If you’re not good with numbers and geography, that makes it one of the highest paved roads in Europe and an engine-load of fun to drive. It’s not considered particularly dangerous, but it has its fair share of bumps and hairpin switchbacks.

Italy: Stelvio Pass

Do you need more than that picture to convince you Stelvio Pass is worth a visit? At an elevation of 2,757 m above sea level, it is the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps and the second highest in the Alps overall. Its 60 hairpin turns have seen plenty of accidents, so don’t overestimate the abilities of your vehicle, but don’t let that deter the more cautious among you from the experience. There’s a reason Top Gear named it the “greatest driving road in the world.”

Signs Your Skin Is Aging Poorly (And What To Do About It)
Signs Your Skin Is Aging Poorly (And What To Do About It)

Saving for retirement and caring for your skin: two things you should start doing as early as possible. The first signs your skin is aging can appear in your 20s, though they can differ from person to person and may be so subtle you don’t even notice them.

You’re vigilant for the most recognisable harbingers of age – like crows feet and undereye bags – but what about itchy skin? Or gaunt hands? Or a changing eye shape? These are a few of the lesser-known indicators of aging that dermatologists warn to look for.

Keep a watchful eye out for the following 6 signs of a maturing complexion and learn how to stave off the ravages of time for as long as possible.

#1 Sun Spots

It’s one thing for your grandfather to have constellations of age spots. It’s another thing for you to be sporting them in your 20s or early 30s. The appearance of sun spots at such an early age means you’ve had significant UV exposure. You can’t undo the sun damage you’ve already accrued, but you can minimise its effects by using a broad spectrum SPF (30 or higher), antioxidants to reduce free radical damage, and a retinol product to stimulate new collagen production.

#2 Haggard Hands

You naturally lose subcutaneous tissue, bone, and muscle as you age, resulting in a gaunt face and hands. Your temples and lower eyelids may also take on a “carved out” appearance. The best way to rectify those losses is to fortify your skin with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid can be found in a variety of skincare products or, if more extreme measures are needed, can be injected as a filler.

#3 Discolouration On The Neck

“Uneven colour on the sides of the neck and on the V of the chest is evidence of early photodamage,” says Annie Chiu, a dermatologist in North Redondo Beach, California. “If your skin is easily irritable, thats a sign of aging,” she adds. “Healthy skin has a strong skin barrier that resists chronic inflammation.” Invest in a serum packed with antioxidants, which can even out skin tones and have a youthful brightening effect.

#4 Loose Skin On The Cheeks And Jaw

How much should you worry about wrinkles? Fighting them all is a losing battle – they happen naturally just from movement – but it’s a problem when fine lines and wrinkles appear in the middle of the cheeks or the jawline sags in your 20s or 30s. These places can show the earliest signs of sun damage on your face. Ultherapy, a treatment that uses ultrasound technology to tighten skin, can minimise wrinkles and sagging with multiple sessions.

#5 Itchiness

With aging comes a serious loss of moisture. “The cell membranes become more porous, contributing to dryness and the crepe-y look,” says Patricia Ceballos, a dermatologist in New Rochelle, New York. “Consequently, skin tends to become itchy and more sensitive.” The solution to this one is simple: moisturise like your skin’s life depends on it, because it does.

#6 Changing Eyes

Believe it or not, your eyes can change shape over the course of your lifetime. As you age, your bones start to recede inwards, most noticeably at the inner upper corner and the outer lower corner of the skull. The shift can cause your eyes to adopt a slightly more horizontal shape. The best thing you can do to combat the change is maintain the texture of your skin and treat it to regular tightening therapeutic treatments.

Australia's “Ass Kicker” Coffee Could Kill You
Australia's “Ass Kicker” Coffee Could Kill You

If there’s nothing you love more in the morning than a cup of joe and the threat of tachycardia, it’s time to head to Adelaide. South Australia’s cosmopolitan coastal capital is home to Viscous Coffee, a cafe pouring a brew so strong it comes with a warning and a practically-apocalyptic name: Ass Kicker.

The nearly fatal cup contains 120ml of ten-day cold brew, a quadruple shot of espresso, and eight ice cubes made from 48-hour cold drip. All that adds up to 80 times the amount of caffeine found in a regular cup of coffee and half the dose considered to be lethal.

“Some people love it and some are broken by it but it’s all in the name of fun,” said Steve Benington, owner of Viscous Coffee, to The Advertiser.

The frankenbeverage was originally created for an emergency room nurse who needed to stay awake for a night shift. “She consumed her drink over two days and it kept her up for almost three days,” Benington explained. “I toned it down a little after that and the ‘Ass Kicker’ was born.”

Despite being ‘toned down’ for its public debut, the coffee comes with a health warning: “Persons with high blood pressure and/or heart conditions, drink at your own risk.”

Customers who meet the physical requirements are advised to drink the Ass Kicker over three to four hours for 12 to 18 hours of “sustained up-time”. Down too much too fast and, well, let’s just say there’s a reason medical professionals have expressed concern over this mighty brew.

“There have been a number of documented cases of hospital admissions and also death with caffeine intakes less than half of what is contained in this beverage,” warns Tanya Lewis, an accredited dietitian and personal trainer.

The good news? Despite sounding like it would have the all the subtlety (and perhaps the actual properties) of paint thinner, the Ass Kicker reportedly tastes like toffee. Anyone game for a sip?

Step Inside This Slick Guest House Built Amongst A Pine Forest

As far as guest houses go, none can be more audacious than YOD Studio’s latest effort simply called Guest House 2.0.

The unconventional living space is situated in the forests of Poltava, Ukraine, where it borrows from the surrounding environment to create a seamlessly integrated space that is both subtle on the outside but beautifully designed on the inside.

The house is built from lightweight wood which sits on an innovative screw bases – a technique allowing the structure to be built right up close to pine trees without damaging them.

Stepping inside will reveal a minimalist design language with floor to ceiling windows taking full advantage of the views and natural lighting. The centre piece is of course the walls which feature wooden squares set against a matte black wall and black furniture.

The wood plank ceiling adds a much welcome touch of organic meets contemporary design to the space which does a fine job of waking up in style.

The home was completed this year and more info on its development can be found at YOD Studio.

The Best Art And Architecture Of Burning Man 2016
The Best Art And Architecture Of Burning Man 2016

As the dust settles on another return home for the world’s burners, it’s time to look back on the incredible art and architecture that made Burning Man 2016 magic.

The annual festival once again turned the lunar landscape of Nevada’s Black Rock Desert into an oasis of creativity, kindness, self-expression, passion, and, of course, fire. Ambitious attendees constructed a vast array of impressive temporary structures, many of which went up in flames by the week’s end. For those who weren’t there to witness the pieces in person, photographers captured the artistic action and have been flooding Instagram with FOMO-inducing snaps.

This year’s works include Awakening, a large-scale interactive steel sculpture of a human head and two hands emerging from the ground. Lord Snort, a giant wild boar made of steel, could be climbed and rotated 360-degrees.

Half-buried in the dust and covered in hundreds of years worth of rust, Mechan 9 is a giant fallen robot that looks simultaneously ancient and futuristic. Renaiximent (Renaissance) is a reinterpretation of grotesque decorations from Valencia Silk Market, a UNESCO World Heritage building from the XV century.

The Space Whale is a full-scale crystalline humpback whale mother and calf diving through the sky built from steel and stained glass. The monument is meant to inspire people to create the change needed to herald in a future of environmental balance and space travel.

As always, the Temple and the Man himself are two of the year’s highlights. The Temple was once again designed by David Best, an internationally renowned sculptor famed for his works in wood. The Man took on the shape of Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man, in honour of the event’s ‘Da Vinci’s Workshop’ theme.

Check out some of the best art of Burning Man 2016 above and start planning next year’s visit with our survival guide.

'The Simpsons' Rock The Century's Hottest Streetwear & Sneakers

What is it about The Simpsons and streetwear? Though animation’s most famous yellow family and fashion’s edgiest urban styles don’t seem like an obvious match, artists are obsessed with pairing them together.

The latest to do so is Olga Wójcik, a graphic designer who goes by @machonis on Instagram. Her feed is filled with images of Bart, Homer, Milhouse, Mr. Burns, and Krusty rocking the hottest streetwear brands of the century. The girls also get in on the action – Lisa sports a serious collection of Yeezy Boosts, and even little Maggie models BAPE like a pro.

When not illustrating Bart and co, Wójcik gives a variety of other cartoon favourites a fresh sense of style. Characters from Dragon Ball Z and Pokemon make appearances on her Instagram page, along with Ninja Turtles and the Scooby-Doo gang. Even Bugs Bunny shows up, rocking an eye-catching collab between Nike and Supreme.

Check out some of her work above and the rest on Instagram. And for more Simpsons-doing-streetwear, continue this way…
