3 Incredible Business Class Suites To Try When Australia Opens Up
3 Incredible Business Class Suites To Try When Australia Opens Up

While we've been bunkered down, the rest of the world's still been spinning. But Australia has just had some great news: our international border is set to open in November.

Though there is still a long way to go before travel returns to 'normal,' many Australians, inspired by the latest news, are turning to their maps and throwing darts (if not literally, metaphorically); thinking about where we'd like to travel when they eventually can.

Speaking of cool new things to try: what are the best business class products to fly when travel comes back? To answer that question we did some digging – here are the top three business class suites Australians should try when travel returns, in our opinion.

Delta One Suites

[caption id="attachment_303514" align="alignnone" width="920"] Image Credit: The Points Guy[/caption]

If you like flying Qatar Airways' business class on flights to Europe, then you should consider the US rival to Qatar Airways' Qsuite – Delta One Suites – for your next flight to the US. Especially if you live in Sydney.

Delta One Suites are part of the suite-style of business class that made waves around the globe when it was popularised in 2017 (since then business class has started becoming less and less distinguishable from first).

Despite Delta One Suites not being as famous as the Qsuite, Delta remains a frontrunner in the business class suite space, and despite some teething issues which have been pointed out by some business class travel bloggers, it's still one of the most under-rated business class seats out there.

Being a suite, you get to slide the door shut for privacy, lie-flat beds, bigger entertainment systems and signature Delta amenities like Westin Heavenly bedding and designer Alessi service-wear. The seats are also staggered so that when you look to your left or right you don't see your neighbour.

Speaking of this, the suites are set up in a 1-2-1 configuration. The suites are 21-24 inches wide and the fully flat bed is 79-81 inches long.

Delta One Suites are available on Delta's A330 Neos, A350s and select retrofitted 767's.

At the time of writing, return Delta One Suite fares from Sydney to LAX in February are going for $11,932 for a return flight (on Delta's flagship A350).

Flights to LAX with Delta One Suites are also available from Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane (though you'll have to fly to Sydney first).

ANA 'The Room'

[caption id="attachment_303509" align="alignnone" width="920"] Image Credit: God Save The Points[/caption]

ANA was the first Japanese airline to start offering the staggered seat arrangement business class travellers now expect from a premium product. This smart setup gives you direct aisle access no matter where you are seated, and the spacious room means you can sleep, eat, enjoy yourself, or work in supreme comfort. The seat in ANA's 'The Room' has a sumptuous pitch and a footrest that can be adjusted to four different heights. Oh and instead of a seat you have more of a sofa/bench.

The Room is also equipped with a large 12.1-inch touch-panel LCD monitor, a large table, a personal reading light, a universal power port, and USB port. Some travel bloggers call it the best business class seat in the world due to how spacious it is. Whether that's an overblown claim or not, what's not up for debate is that this is an excellent dark horse to try.

Sydney to Tokyo, when travel gets back to normal, is a route with an abundance of direct ANA flights. To try The Room though you'll need to continue your trip to London or New York (from Tokyo), as these are the routes which are flown by ANA's upgraded Boeing 777-300ER flagship jets (which has The Room).

Qatar Airways Qsuite

[caption id="attachment_303589" align="alignnone" width="920"] Image Credit: Pinterest[/caption]

With one of the best-known business class seats in the sky, you could be forgiven for worrying Qatar Airways’ Qsuite is all just hot air. But then you sit down, bottom cupped in ergonomic ecstasy and champagne fizzing on your tongue, and you realise they really can back up the claim.

Qatar Airways offers both aft and forward-facing seats, as well as ‘quads’ – a private space perfectly adaptable for those travelling in groups. The airline has also partnered with two Italian luxury brands BRIC’s and Castello Monte Vibiano to design an amenity kit that is made to ensure that you arrive fresh faced at your destination, and single travellers will enjoy their private suites.

In four words: the suite of suites.

Qantas A330 Business Class

[caption id="attachment_303511" align="alignnone" width="920"] Image Credit: Qantas[/caption]

Though there are many awesome business class offerings that will take you to Europe, you've probably heard of all of them before. We hardly need to extoll the virtues of Qatar Airways, Etihad or even Singapore Airlines' business class products.

Enter: the (relatively) recently refurbished Qantas A330, which we reviewed in 2019 (when it really was new) and which, despite being around for a few years now, hasn't been experienced by as many Australian travellers as it could have, thanks to the pandemic.

The old Boeing 737s that previously serviced the Sydney to Denpasar route were re-routed around 2019. From that moment (up until COVID throwing the whole industry a curve ball) if you were flying to Bali with Qantas from Sydney you would have had the chance to try a swanky new business class on one of Qantas' A330s.

Thanks to the A330’s 1-2-1 layout, every business class passenger on the A330 has direct aisle access – a feature the smaller 737’s lacked. Dubbed The Vantage XL, the seats on the Qantas A330 are made by the prestigious Thompson Aero Seating.

The new configuration (and style of seat) also gives you more space to store your belongings, eat, work and watch movies (on a larger 16″ inflight entertainment screen) with oodles of comfort and privacy.

This was a welcome development for customers travelling from Sydney to Bali of an evening (flights typically depart Sydney around 4:30pm and arrive in Bali at 9:30pm), giving them the opportunity to indulge in a pre-landing nap after their movie and dinner.

It was an even more welcome development for passengers who wanted to get some sleep on the overnight return QF44 trip – a flight which typically leaves Bali around 10:30pm (local time) and arrives in Sydney at approximately 6:30am.

Another bonus: the increase in the number of Business Class seats (the old 737’s had 12; the A330’s have 28) meant that there were more pointy end tickets available for travellers looking to use their Frequent Flyer points to get an upgrade on the A330 when travelling from Sydney to Denpasar.

Unfortunately, looking at Qantas' flight schedule for next year, it appears the 737s are back on the job for now (for flights to Bali). The A330, however, will still be found on other Qantas routes and so is worth keeping an eye out for.

In a summary of its international restart plans Qantas has said: "From mid-December 2021, flights would start from Australia to COVID-safe destinations, which are likely to include Singapore, the United States, Japan, United Kingdom and Canada using Boeing 787s, Airbus A330s, and 737s and A320s for services to Fiji."

"Qantas will extend the range of its A330-200 aircraft to operate some trans-Pacific routes such as Brisbane-Los Angeles and Brisbane-San Francisco. This involves some technical changes that are now being finalised with Airbus."

Keep your eyes peeled.

The Rude Shock Every Tourist Needs To Prepare For Before Dining In France
The Rude Shock Every Tourist Needs To Prepare For Before Dining In France

There’s one thing you need to watch out for when dining out in France: your ego. Be careful not to trip over it.

Don’t despair though: the short shrift you get in France from wait staff (compared to say England, Australia or America) is actually a bit of a relief – a much-needed ego check, even.

A video has recently emerged on Instagram capturing this difference with mirth. Posted by bilingual comedian Tatty Macleod (@tatty_macleod), it’s worth a watch.

Watch Tatty Macleod show the difference between French and English waiters in the video below

The video shows Tatty pretending to be an English waiter apologising profusely to guests, saying: “sorry to keep you waiting” and asking: “how are we?”

It then cuts to a French waiter (also Tatty) in a similar scenario, yelling at guests: “yes yes, I’m on my way, madam. I’ve seen you.”

Then she imitates a French waiter responding to a complaint about a pizza.

“What do you mean it’s burnt?”

“It’s not burnt. It’s homemade artisanal dough cooked the Italian way and this is how it comes out. It comes out charred. What do you want me to say. It’s like that.”

RELATED: Paris Local Reveals The Secret To Drinking Your Coffee The True French Way

Another follow up video explores a few more funny themes.

Some great quotes include a French waiter telling diners “no, no sorry madam, the terrace is full – for two – next to the toilets.”

Another comes when a French waiter is asked what’s in the salad.

“It’s a salad – whatever’s in a salad.”

She then mimics the response a tourist might get when they complain that a restaurant is out of steak or souffle.

“You shouldn’t come at the end of lunch service.”

As for vegans, the attitude is very Bourdain-esque.

“If you enjoy eating grass the champ de mars is opposite.”

Commenters appeared to love it, writing remarks like: “hahahaha so true” and “this truly killed me.”

Though Tatty didn’t post this necessarily with the view of saying French hospitality workers are better (it was more to poke fun at both sides of the channel), we reckon it illustrates an important point.

Though many tourists find the French style of customer service abrasive, others love how it keeps things ~real~.

Who wants to live in a fake world where the customer is always right, anyway? Unless you’re someone who needs their ego massaged at every turn, it’s a strange thing to wish for.

Food for thought.

Want Huge Shoulders? Do This Brutal Upper Body Workout
Want Huge Shoulders? Do This Brutal Upper Body Workout

You should always be on the lookout for new, exciting and challenging workouts or exercises to add to an already developed workout routine. Not only will swapping, adding and changing movements keep things interesting for you, which in turn should continue to give you motivation to go to the gym or to workout, but it helps to keep the muscles guessing and to ‘shock’ them, so that you can maximise your gains.

Your shoulders are a vital muscle group to target. They’re the muscle group with the largest range of motion in the body, and are responsible for a wide range of upper body movements, so keeping them strong and healthy is important. Fortunately, there are a number of shoulder exercises you can perform, from lateral raises through to overhead presses, but this recent shoulder workout we spotted on Instagram is unlike anything you’ve seen before. It comes from fitness trainer George Bamfo Jr., and just watching it is enough to make our shoulders feel weak.

All you need to complete it (if you dare) is a set of dumbbells, so you could theoretically perform it at home. The shoulder exercises involved are by no means easy, and your shoulder muscles can become fatigued pretty quickly, so you only want to use a light weight to start with to see how long you can last. George might be using 25lb dumbbells, but then, look at the size of him. We’d go for 5kg/11lbs weights as a good starting point.

Check out George Bamfo Jr’s Brutal Shoulder Workout in the Video Below

George’s workout includes the following movements:

  • Bent Arm Dumbbell Lateral Raise with Rotation: The lateral raise is a classic shoulder exercise that targets the deltoid muscle. Usually, you would perform this movement with your arms out straight (albeit with a slight bend in the elbow), but here, George bends his elbows at 90-degrees, allowing him to lift a heavier weight. The wrists rotate too which can help to put a bit of tension on the upper arm muscles (and the rotating movement can help provide some momentum to lift the arms up).
  • Dumbbell Overhead Press with Rotation: The overhead press is another movement that should already be featured in your upper body workouts. Good for both the shoulders and chest, as well as your arms, it’s essential. Here, George adds a rotation in, rotating at the shoulder. This helps to add tension to the rotator cuff muscles, which will not only make them stronger but help them to pop too. Also, notice how he’s performing this movement whilst kneeling down. This takes away some stability, so he’ll be needing to engage his core a lot more to help prevent his body from swaying around too much.
  • Dumbbell Close Grip Chest Press with Fly: The close grip dumbbell chest press is a great variation of the classic dumbbell chest press. It’s a compound movement, so works multiple muscle groups in one hit, including the pecs, deltoids in your shoulders, triceps and rotator cuff. The fly movement George adds on at the end helps to improve the strength of the rotator cuff, as well as helping to open up the chest muscles.
  • Dumbbell Push Up with Reach: Push-ups on their own are already a fantastic upper body workout, targeting your arms, core, chest, shoulders and back muscles all in one. Here, George uses a narrow stance with his hands gripping a pair of dumbbells, which he then extends out in front of himself at the top of the push-up movement. This not only requires his core to engage to help him stabilise himself, but the reaching movement is similar to a front lateral raise, meaning he’s targeting the deltoid and trap muscles.
  • Russian Twists with Press: Russian twists are a core exercise that sees you sitting down with your legs lifted off the floor, putting all the tension on your core to keep your body upright. Holding a weight, twist your upper body from side to side to target the obliques. Here, George adds in a dumbbell press after one rotation on each side, just to give his shoulders one last blast.

This shoulder workout circuit is certainly not easy. So for your first time, try to complete 8 – 10 reps for each movement, and complete the full circuit 3 times.

New Study Finds Bizarre Trait That Makes You More Attractive
New Study Finds Bizarre Trait That Makes You More Attractive

Huge biceps, washboard abs, a Hollywood smile or an impeccable dress sense; these are all factors we not only believe make us more attractive, but are also ones that we can control.

But no matter how much effort we put into making ourselves look good on the outside, there's another factor we may have forgotten about, which could also impact your dating life. That factor? Your voice.

That's right: a recent study has found some evidence to suggest the sound of your voice, and the degree to which you mumble, could be the deciding factor as to whether you woo someone on a night out or not.

The study – which was recently published in The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America (via BestLifeOnlineat the end of August 2021 – recruited 42 participants (male and female) to record a series of vocal exercises, which were then played back to another group of participants – men were played recordings of women and vice versa – who then rated the voice tone on a scale, based on how attractive it sounded.

The research team wanted to focus specifically on what is known as vowel space area, which defines how far apart the vowels are when someone speaks. The consensus is the further apart, the more easily understandable one’s voice and speech is. Sarah Hargus, one of the researchers involved in the study, explained to MailOnline, "The vowel space area reflects how far away, for example, 'beet' is from 'bit,' and 'bet' is from 'bait.' The smaller a talker's vowel space, the less acoustically distinct the various vowels are from each other." The participants’ attractiveness ratings were then compared against their vocal clarity.

The study ultimately found that men who mumbled more, i.e. i.e. those who had a smaller vowel space, were found to be more attractive to women.

The research team theorised that a man who mumbles will tend to have a lower voice note, and this, to women at least, could be viewed subconsciously as a greater sign of masculinity. Conversely, the researchers also interpreted from the data that men who enunciated more, were perceived to be less sexually attractive, most likely because clear speech can be associated with femininity.

Relationship expert Samantha Jayne weighed in on the findings, telling DMARGE, “ At first I thought ‘no way’, I personally prefer well spoken, articulate men with clear speech however in saying that one of the most successful men I knew was a 'Mumbler' as many educated, intelligent men.. so there is something in this..”

”However, upon further reflection, I think it’s true.”

“Mumbling men are more attractive due to evolutionary developments, because the mumble is considered more masculine or macho interestingly though the opposite is true for women.”

”Men seem to prefer women who enunciate clearly. Perhaps this is what differentiates men and women like masculine and feminine energy polarities. The more opposite they are to each other the more sex appeal.”

“When you think about it, to mumble you need to lower your voice and a lower voice is considered sexy and associated with high levels of testosterone. Think about James Bond, he is the ultimate mumbler.”

“As he says, ‘Bond, James Bond’ it's technically a mumble, his speech pitch is as low as it gets, vs if he were to say in a clear voice that sounds like he has had elocution lessons ‘Bond, James Bond’ would sound weird and it wouldn't have the same impact.”

As a side note, we guarantee you read those in a different tone of voice, such is the wonder of the brain.

As for whether your voice can genuinely be a deciding factor with regard to someone finding you attractive or not, Samantha is certainly in the former camp.

“I think someone's voice is an important factor when it comes to attraction. It's one of our main senses and some people are more sensitive to auditory especially if it's their preferred modality.”

”Think of all the times you will be hearing a person's voice, on the phone, during conversations, in the morning night time whispers so if a person's voice is unattractive to you it's going to be a problem!”

Don't forget though, even if you do have a super soothing voice à la Barry White, it shouldn't mean you can forget the notion of good dress sense. You've got to make a good impression before you even open your mouth, after all.

“I think someone’s voice is an important factor when it comes to attraction. It’s one of our main senses and some people are more sensitive to auditory especially if it’s their preferred modality.”

”Think of all the times you will be hearing a person’s voice, on the phone, during conversations, in the morning night time whispers so if a person’s voice is unattractive to you it’s going to be a problem!”

Don’t forget though, even if you do have a super soothing voice à la Barry White, it shouldn’t mean you can forget the notion of good dress sense. You’ve got to make a good impression before you even open your mouth, after all.

Lenny Kravitz Accidentally Reveals The Secret To His Six Pack Abs

Despite damning evidence discovered by German bodybuilder and literal muscle mountain Jo Lindner that suggests women don't really care if you have six-pack abs or not as a mark of attractiveness, they're still a defining feature that many men crave. But, as anyone who steps into a gym should know, the majority of the work is performed in the kitchen. You can sit-up, plank and mountain climb all you want, but unless you shed your belly fat, your glistening torso will never see the light of day.

With various nutritional diets and fads, including the keto diet and intermittent fasting, coming with their evidence to suggest they can indeed help you rid yourself of unwanted fat, making these dietary changes can sometimes be easier said than done. One man, however, has just shown us an incredibly simple change we can make that could hold the key to saying bye-bye to belly fat forever.

Case in point: Lenny Kravitz. The 57-year-old American rock and blues musician can often fly under the radar as a source of fitness inspiration – he doesn't exactly post constant workouts to his social accounts in the same vein as Salt Bae, for example – but some recent images posted to his Instagram prove he's not letting age get the better of him. Following an image he posted of himself earlier this year, showing off his insane torso in all its glory – and inferring he's put himself onto a vegan diet – Lenny has posted another image, with abs more defined than Ellen DeGeneres' wrinkles on a high-definition TV.

Magic Mike star and fellow owner of an enviable rig, Channing Tatum, was quick to comment on the picture, "Good god man! What are you eating or what’s in the water or the genes. It’s not natural. Do you just do abs like all day?"

Lenny's response? "Dude, I’m just trying to get in the next Magic Mike. Any connections?"

But, while the image in question may initially have you gawking at your screen, upon closer inspection, Lenny also appears to have revealed one of the secrets to his cheese grating success: coffee.

Coffee contains caffeine, and it's this that can provide myriad benefits to your entire workout regime. As Muscleandfitness.com says, caffeine gives you an energy boost, so when taken before you go to the gym, it can give you extra energy to work harder. It is also claimed to help increase your strength, as researchers believe it can help to minimise pain associated with anaerobic training, furthering to help you improve upon previous workout sessions.

Secondly, Moka pot coffee – sans milk – has virtually zero calories. So, while it gives you an extra pop of energy to perform, it does so without piling on any unwanted fat. In fact, it can have quite the opposite effect, as it's claimed to help kick your central nervous system into overdrive, which can then help to burn any fat you already have stored.

Of course, drinking black coffee alone won't gift you a set of washboard abs, you will still need to perform a variety of core workouts to build up their size – just don't expect changes to happen overnight – but ditching oat, soy or regular milk in favour of a bitter cuppa Joe certainly won't do any harm.
