Flying business class ruins you for life. It’s indulgent, lets you work (if you need to) and – most importantly – gives you ample opportunity to sleep at a horizontal angle. It’s also changed a lot over the years. Now that first class is slowly being phased out, business class is getting all sorts of bells and whistles, from sliding doors to conjoined suites for couples. The standard configuration for a business class cabin has changed too. Now if it’s not a 1-2-1 configuration, with instant aisle access for all, many travellers don’t even want to know about it. Privacy is a big theme in 2022 too, as things like sliding doors become industry standard.New generation aircraft are making airlines bring out the big guns when it comes to design and comfort, making travellers actually look forward to flying. These are our nominees for the Best Business Class seats of the year.
Delta One Suites
If you’re ever flying between Sydney and Los Angeles, Delta One Suites (on Delta’s A350 jets) are a must try. Why? Delta was the first airline to introduce an all-suite business class back in 2016 and remains a frontrunner in the space. This means doors that slide shut for privacy, lie-flat beds, bigger entertainment systems and signature Delta amenities like Westin Heavenly bedding and designer Alessi service-wear.Other awesome benefits include a staggered 1-2-1 configuration, suites 21-24 inches wide and a fully flat bed that is 79-81 inches long. So far Delta has taken delivery of 11 A350-900s from Airbus, so if you’re flying on one of these, the Delta One Suites are a given. It has also retrofitted some of its Boeing 777-200s with the suites (check this out before you book) and plans to put some on its Boeing 767-400s too.Book @ Delta
Qatar Airways’ Qsuite
Qatar Airways’ Qsuite is one of the best known business class suites in the world. And for good reason. It was voted the World’s Best Business Class in the 2021 Skytrax World Airline Awards. And it didn’t earn that title for nothing. Qatar Airways’ Qsuite offers both aft and forward-facing seats, as well as ‘quads’ – a private space perfectly adaptable for those travelling in groups. Qatar Qsuites have also partnered with two Italian luxury brands BRIC’s and Castello Monte Vibiano to design an amenity kit with a range of skincare products and in-flight necessities that are designed exclusively to ensure that you arrive fresh at your destination, and single travellers will enjoy their private suites. As for routes, you can fly from Adelaide to Doha on the Qsuite (QR Flights 914 and 915). You can also fly from Melbourne to Doha on the Qsuite (QR Flights 904 and 905). Finally, you can fly from Sydney to Doha on the Qsuite on QR Flights 908 and 909. Seeing as Doha is Qatar Airways’ global hub, this makes the Qsuite a great choice for Australians looking to head to Europe (from Doha you can fly on the Qsuite to London).Book @ Qatar Airways
Singapore Airlines’ Airbus A380 Business Class
Singapore is no slouch when it comes to air travel. Not only is Singapore Changi Airport one of the plushest in the world, Singapore Airlines’ new A380 business-class has to be seen to be believed – a mean feat considering its predecessor was the biggest bed in the sky. While this new version is 25 inches narrower, this purple beauty is actually more comfortable (you can use more than one armrest at a time), more private, has more storage space (and it’s all within reach, too), and has more cutting edge materials.Speaking of which: this business class seat is made of handstitched full grain leather by Poltrona Frau. It easily reclines into a bed. Oh, and it has special “wings” for support while lounging around that can be flattened when you want to go to sleep (read: office to bedroom at the click of a button). Not to mention: the lack of overhead bins makes your space feel enormous (and the middle seat removable divider is perfect for couples who want to create a temporary love nest). Oh, and the 1-2-1 layout means equal aisle access for all. Likewise, everyone gets an 18-inch video screen and a 198cm long bed. It’s great for flying to Singapore from Sydney or Melbourne, and is also an option when going all the way through to Europe.Book @ Singapore Airlines
Cathay Pacific’s A350 Business Class
Emirates’ Airbus A380 Business Class
Next time you’re headed from Sydney to Dubai, hop aboard the Emirates Airbus A380 Business Class. There’s a personal minibar and foot-level stowage, as well as some of the tastiest mid-air food you’ll ever lay teeth on. For entertainment, the Ice system includes more than 1300 films, television shows, and documentaries. Need a drink? Or need anything, for that matter? The attendants speak 15 languages. And did we mention there are complimentary top-shelf champagne and a chauffeur drive service to the airport? Plus: the Onboard Lounge is a great place to attempt to break David Boone’s record for Martini’s sunk over the pacific if you’re so inclined. Great for flying to Europe or Dubai.Book @ Emirates
The Etihad Experience Business Class
Etihad is known around the world for offering one of the most impressive services in the sky. Business Class is no exception. Found on the airline’s A380’s and 787’s, Etihad’s Business seats are constructed in the 1-2-1 configuration to offer direct aisle access for all. Complimentary ACQUA DI PARMA amenity kits are also available, containing an eye mask, earplugs, luxurious socks and a signature fresh fragrance, so you can pamper yourself during your flight. Speaking of pampering, passengers are also given hot towels before drink orders are taken and served food with silver cutlery. If you’re on the A380, you can also venture to a swish lounge called The Lobby, or while away the hours with the onboard wifi (or vast entertainment system).Book @ Etihad
Turkish Airlines
Air France’s A350-900 Business Class
Air France’s A350 is a favourite of business class flyers. Why? Other than the fact that it’s larger than most Paris hotel rooms (we kid, we kid), it’s got all the usual jazz of fully flat beds, direct aisle access, 1-2-1 seat configuration, high-definition seatback screens, noise-cancelling headphones, AC and USB ports, and a divider screen for extra privacy.Book @ Air France
Qantas’ Business Suite A380
After the A380’s million-dollar facelift, the Qantas Business Suite is now available across the 787 Dreamliners, Airbus A330s and – now – the A380s. But if you’re feeling nostalgic for the old Skybeds – don’t. The Qantas Business Suite is a new level of luxury.Designed in collaboration with Marc Newson with a focus on comfort, privacy and style, Qantas’ Business Suites are intuitive and luxe. The Vantage XL seats recline to fully-flat beds and have been customised extensively after inflight monitoring with a panel of experts (plus customer feedback). In other words: as tantalising amount you will ever place your bottom on. Trust us: we’ve tried. The reclining seat can be fitted with a comfy mattress whenever you want (bar take-off and landing) and the new space means you can eat, work, enjoy the inflight entertainment options and store your luggage with unprecedented comfort. And the 1:2:1 configuration means equal (immediate) aisle access for all.Book @ Qantas
ANA’s ‘The Room’
British Airways’ New Club Suite
The final step in British Airways’ luxe Club World investment, British Airways’ Club Suite is available on their ‘hushliner’ A350s aircraft and select Boeing 777 Aircraft services. If you luck (or research) your way onto one of these bad boys, you’ll find yourself sitting in cutting edge luxury – the Club Suite is a bespoke version of the Collins Aerospace Super Diamond seat in a forward-facing (no awkward eye contact) herringbone layout, featuring a sliding privacy door.If this doesn’t whet your appetite, perhaps the 18.5 flat screen entertainment system, noise-cancelling headphones, generous storage, plush pillow, amenity kit or world-class menu (inspired by visionary chefs) will. Either that or the classic combination of a good English breakfast tea and a scone. And the 1-2-1 layout is another bonus. All in all British Airways’ Club Suite is a hotel like capsule which gives you your own private space at 35,000 feet.Book @ British Airways

In today’s world of the body image-conscious, men are no longer immune. Injecting your penis with hyaluronic acid might not sound like your idea of a great day out, but more and more men are starting to do it and doctors are beginning to worry.
We’re talking about penis fillers, a new cosmetic trend which is currently on the rise amongst Australian men who are insecure about their size and want a bigger package without invasive surgery.
In the current medical climate, penis fillers involve the increase of girth via the injection of hyaluronic acid or other liquids into the soft tissue residing under the skin of the shaft. The few hour long procedure which can cost around $5,400 a session will ensure that a patient’s penis can retain its larger shape for up to 18 months.
Where the problems arise is with men not looking at the risks before undertaking the procedure. Sydney cosmetic surgeon Dr Gavin Scriven confirmed to the ABC that he had personally seen a rise in the past five years.
“It probably isn’t so accepted for a man to get cosmetic surgery as it is for women, but it’s definitely becoming more common and less taboo,” Dr Scriven said.
RELATED: Penis Enlargement Surgery – We Spoke To A Surgeon About How To Buy A Bigger Dick
Other doctors like Asif Muneer from the British Association of Urological Surgeons highlighted a more worrying trend. Muneer told the BBC that he would “discourage” men from penis fillers altogether.
“All these augmentation procedures are mainly to increase your flaccid girth, and it will have no benefit on your erect length – so functionally it’s not going to improve matters.”
“If anything, it might lead to complications that will impair their sexual function later on.”
Dr. Ross Perry who practices in cosmetics in the U.K also echoed the same sentiments to Yahoo. He believes that the procedure can lead to serious side effects such as painful bruising, swelling and potential infection or scarring.
“Another potential side effect is erectile dysfunction due to blood vessel blockage.”
Perry even goes as far as rejecting patients who have enquired about the procedure, citing it as “a very high risk procedure”.
On a more preferential scale, Perry admits that it’s also difficult to meet a patient’s expectations when it comes to penis fillers since the result is only girth and width – not length. The take away message from this particular doctor is to ask yourself whether compromising your sex life is worthy of a “bigger” looking flaccid penis.
Dr. Jayson Oates who is a cosmetic and facial plastic surgeon at the Academy Face and Body in Perth disagrees with Perry’s stance. He believes that the procedure is entirely safe for men and has subsequently developed his own injectable penis augmentation procedure to ensure that safety is at the forefront of this growing practice.
“Safety was my paramount concern and [we] developed the procedure using TGA approved hyaluronic acid gel fillers that we have used in the face for twenty years now.”
“They are also totally reversible with a medication called hyaluronidase. We also use blunt tip cannula so as to keep deep structures safe. We have done over a thousand individual treatments and understand the risks very well – much better than someone who has never done the procedure.”
Dr. Oates is currently working on his own studies alongside Curtain University to bring more light to the psychological effects of penis augmentation on men before and after the procedure.
He admits that there are risks, but they have “established protocols” to minimise these.
“The idea that it will cause sexual dysfunction and scarring is a bit extreme, maybe a way of getting your name published. However, I would suggest a man only goes to someone who is trained and experienced in penile augmentation as cosmetic doctors are now thinking they will just give it a try and will have poor results.”

We have promised to visit Melbourne’s URBNSURF for close to 12 months since its launch in early 2020. The concept of inland surfing in a country surrounded by water is a bit odd, but when you live over 1.5 hours from the nearest surf beach, it’s actually genius. On the first visit, I took my niece just to experience the place. Unfortunately, it was the middle of winter and nothing can really prepare you for just how cold it can be as the wind whips through the place. So yes, be prepared if you’re coming from Sydney or anywhere warm. Regardless of temperature, the experience is unique and so good that I went back a second time a month later (paying ourselves, of course) to try a more advanced session.
What’s It Like Catching An Inland Wave?
URBNSURF caters for all levels of surfing
Whether you’re an expert or on a bucks party, URBNSURF offers multiple levels for all experience and skill level. The more beginner level will have you catching white water, in the middle, you have cruiser and intermediate levels and advanced if you want barrels and turns. We chose cruiser sessions just to get a feel of the place, however, you soon realise intermediate and advanced are the levels to aspire to. These were often booked out when we tried, so plan ahead.
Do you need to bring your own board to URBNSURF?
How many waves do you get in a session at URBNSURF?
On average there were about 15 people on each side in each session. On both visits, we caught about 12 waves in a session. You will find people tend to get tired so they will rest or finish early, making the queue shorter each time you paddle out.Paddling out is easy too as there’s a rip that will take you most of the way, so no duck diving either. There are instructors nearby just in case anything goes wrong and to keep surfers safe. When your session is almost done an alarm will sound.
What happens when you fall off your surfboard?
It happens, but people tend to fall toward the wall and the next person will usually miss them as they’re going in the other direction. So don’t be too worried or scared.
How much does URBNSURF cost?
Expect your session to cost about $80 plus wetsuit and board hire. This will take you to around $120 for an hour of fun. Not cheap but money well spent in my humble opinion.
How does URBNSURF work?
What else do you need to know?
- Don’t bring valuables. The lockers don’t work so keep phones, etc in your car.
- There are change rooms with showers, hot showers which are perfect when it’s cold, which is always in Melbourne.
- Plenty of parking on site.
- Allow time to sign up and sign in, it is a painfully slow process.
If you live far from the ocean, or you want to guarantee yourself some waves, URBNSURF is the perfect destination.Check out the URBNSURF website and book yourself a session.Read Next

From laid-back surfer bros to tough-talking croc hunters, Australian stereotypes are abundant and enduring, and few are more ingrained in the culture than the ute-driving, VB-drinking, mullet-rocking bogan.
What is a bogan…. defined by Urban Dictionary
A type of Australian that is stereotyped as bogan can usually be defined as trailer park trash and other low life names like Leigh, they can usually be found on street corners with a large group of people wearing jean shorts and thongs holding a stubby of vb.
For those of you playing along overseas, think of the bogan as the Aussie answer to the US redneck or the UK chav – a fascinating native species the Oxford English Dictionary defines as an “unfashionable, uncouth, or unsophisticated person, especially of low social status”.
C’mon, OED – a little harsh, don’t you think?
Today’s bogan is a whole new breed, and anyone willing to take an honest look at themselves is likely to find there’s a bit of bogan in all of us.
Keen to find out if you qualify? You might find the answer in the 10 signs you’re a bogan below.
You use ‘Youse’ In Regular Rotation In Your Vocabulary

English wasn’t your strongest subject at school but you never let it get you down. You’re an enterprising bloke with no problem forging his own way in the world – including the telltale use of ‘youse’ instead of ‘you’. Next time a hater tries to call you out for your colourful use of language, politely remind them it’s in the Macquarie Dictionary and they can get stuffed.
A ‘Bluey’ Is Your Go-To Attire For All Occasions

Whether the invite calls for casual, smart casual, or black tie, the beloved bluey is your uniform of choice. You see no point in splashing out on pricey designer garb when you have an entire drawer of these staunchly dependable singlets to slip into. As far as you know, Tom Ford is the guy who makes your XR6 ute.
You’ve Owned A Torana Or HSV In Your Lifetime

Bogans of all ages have a special place in their hearts for the Holden classics. Nothing says ‘out-and-proud bogan rev head’ like dropping your life savings on a gas-guzzling pimp-mobile (then spending more money on modifications than you did for the car in the first place). Hoon on you crazy diamond.
You Have Friends Called Shannon, Wayne, And Wade
The further you venture from the CBD, the more bogan the names of your friends, family and work colleagues get. If you find yourself driving your Ford Falcon down to Wayno’s joint to collect your missus (or Wayno’s missus), we’ve got some news for you…
You Hit Up The Pub And/Or Strippers On Payday

That fresh envelope arrives from Narelle who does your pay and you’re off to the pub (with Wayno and Wade in tow) to smash a few schooners. Depending on how the afternoon progresses, you could end up home with your wife, sneaking in a quick with Wayne’s wife, starting a fight, or hitting up the renters. Or option E: all of the above.
‘Sick C*nt’ Is Your Favourite Saying

Because deep down inside, you know you are a mad c*nt, your friends are all mad c*nts, and even your Aunty Shirley is half a mad c*nt when she collects her Centrelink cheque after a two-day bender.
You Know Every Word To ‘Khe Sanh’

And you have no problem belting it out at a sticky-floor pub after a few too many. All together now: “I left my heart to the sappers ’round Khe Sanh / And I sold my soul with my cigarettes to the black market man / I’ve had the Vietnam cold turkey, from the ocean to the silver city / And it’s only other vets could understand…”
You Wear Your Sunglasses On The Back Of Your Neck

Doesn’t matter whether you’re on the tools, at the pub or getting married to your high school sweetheart, the sunnies go wherever you go. They’re probably Arnett or Oakley, and white.
You’ve Been Arrested In Public With No Shirt On

Like any good bogan, you believe in fighting for your right to party, punch on and generally be a lout. Your first arrest was a rite of passage, now you’re ready for the big leagues – that means beer gut out and proud, and Southern Cross and/or tramp stamp tattoo on full display. It may have been at schoolies, King Street or Triple J’s One Night Stand (in Dubbo), but you’ve been there done that and got the bracelet marks to prove it.
You Stay In Kuta When You Visit Bali

Thanks to Jetstar you now have a passport and are a regular passenger aboard the ”Bogan Bus’ to Bali with the local footy club. You’re doing your part to make the once-quiet fishing village of Kuta an even sleazier paradise lost than Las Vegas, joining the cacophony of debaucherous holidaymakers pissing green arak and buying crass souvenirs from corner shops. And your missus gets braids.

Suits with sneakers. Once a forbidden combination associated with Students, overworked office workers and Ellen DeGeneres, is now becoming an in vogue interpretation of individual style and a ‘devil may care’ attitude. We’ve chosen our five best examples of dudes that dare to be different enough to don their comfiest casual footwear to complement their sharpest of suiting attire.
In This Story…

High Tops With A Suit
Iron Man himself couldn’t pull off a look like this. Robert Downey Jnr. Is famous for his constant suit and sneaker pairings. Check out his classically inspired High Tops that completely contrast his clean cotton suit, topping it off with his trademark ‘Lenon’ tinted specs. This dude is a champion of his own style.
Cons Only
A pair of cons with a suit is becoming so commonly paired it’s almost like mixing peanut butter and chocolate. The combination just works, it’s teaming up a classic with another. Make exceedingly sure to keep his ‘chucks’ crisp and clean which adds to the casual yet classy finished product. Keep it simple with the colours of white & brown or top it with the pop of a red lapel flower.
Seriously Sporty
We’re a massive fan of casual cotton suits. Casual enough to not have you look overdressed and stylish enough to wear for any smart occasion. Teaming it up with the New Balance style trainers in a complementing colour is a stroke of genius. This ‘constantly on the way to the gym’ look doesn’t draw unnecessary attention to your sneakers but it does assist in extra speedy getaways.
Casual Cause
There’s two ways to interpret this idea: either he’s dressed down his suit or dressed up his Tee. Either way this is one look to keep in your arsenal as a go-to everyday/every night kinda outfit. It spans so many occasions and keeps you feeling exceptionally comfy at the same time. Notice the unadorned pure white plimsolls. Nothing ostentatious here.
Colour Matching
If you’re really trying to ‘sneak’ one in on your boss and not to draw too much attention to the fact that you’re getting away with sneakers, simply try colour matching. Not only does camouflaging your casual shoes with your outfit keep away disapproving eyes but it also helps to elongate your silhouette. If in doubt just go for black kicks, they tend to be more understated and unnoticed as white or contrasting colours.

Conor McGregor is not one to rest on his laurels. Though his haters say he’s lost his hunger, we’d say we’ve never seen him work this hard. It’s just that he’s older than he was in his prime. In any case, McGregor now appears to be going to extreme lengths in order to build up his chest muscles before his next fight. After breaking his leg against Poirier in his last fight, McGregor is being rumoured to be making his injury comeback against either Nate Diaz, Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira or Australia’s own Alexander Volkanovski.McGregor-Diaz is the fan favourite fight, McGregor-Gaethje (or Oliveira) is the optimistic ‘I want McGregor to have another shot at a title’ fight and McGregor-Volkanovski is the fight many Australians are hoping for (after McGregor claimed he could kick the Aussie’s head off “like it was a rugby ball.”Lovely.Oh, and there are still some fans hoping McGregor will get a shot of redemption against Poirier.Whoever he fights, McGregor has bulked up massively in recent months. Speaking of which, he took to Instagram on Friday to show off an impressive, if perilous variation of the bench press.Video: Conor McGregor Goes To Extreme Lengths To Bulk Up His Chest
In the video, McGregor can be seen strutting outside, checking his reflection in the window of one of his cars, and then strutting back into his fancy garage gym (inspiring one Instagram user to quip: “no wonder he keeps losing he does 5 reps and walks around for 15 minutes”).Then shit gets real. McGregor does a bench press. Except plates aren’t enough of a challenge. So McGregor decides to add exercise bands to each side of the barbell (as well as a hefty number of plates), which are attatched to the dumbells on the ground.Scott Reynolds, Altitude Training Specialist, Fitness Director and Co-Founder of Combine Air, told DMARGE McGregor’s technique is “not common in a typical gym setting” because “the setup is advanced and takes time plus the actual exercise is challenging.” Reynolds added: “The exercise is at its heaviest point just before the arms are at full extension (locked out). This is due to the banded being at their most stretched point. You may see this technique used in more specialised strength clubs and personal training settings.”
“It basically puts more stress on the muscle which can lead to greater strength and muscle growth. Eccentric loading (lengthening of the muscle) is also commonly used in rehabilitation and pre-habilitations scenarios.”
Just don’t do it with too heavy of a weight though. Why? Besides using too heavy weights being a risky thing to do with or without adding bands to the mix, there is an increased risk with this exercise; a greater chance of tearing muscle “as the resistance is heavier and load changes in the press phase of the bench press.” For this reason, it’s recommended to ask your coach before trying this on your own.
“So now at this stage I believe it’s more about exciting fights and doing other things.”
“Whether it’s Volkanovski, it’s (Max) Holloway, it’s Tony Ferguson, it’s Diaz, for me the most important thing is to get back training, get back improving ourselves and get back in there competing, doing what he does best.”Read Next

Cristiano Ronaldo is arguably the greatest player to have ever stepped foot on a football pitch, and at 36-years-old, he continues to show very little signs of physical weakness, and his ability with a ball at his feet (or above his head) remains legendary. He’s not the only world-class athlete to remain at the top of their field despite being ‘old,’ as LeBron James and recently-retired NFL quarterback Tom Brady are close to, or in their 40s, yet are still defined as the ‘greatest’. Key to their success, and Cristiano’s in particular, is ensuring they keep on top of their fitness. We’ve already discussed the various workouts Ronaldo puts his body through to remain match-ready, but that’s only half the story. In a recent Instagram post, the Portuguese footballer and Manchester United prodigal son (father?) revealed how he recovers to keep his muscles, mind and body in tip top shape.Video: Cristiano Ronaldo Shows Off His Epic Recovery Cold Room
Stepping into a series of rooms wearing just his underwear, some gloves and a headband, Cristiano appears in high spirits. While it isn’t immediately clear just what those rooms are, a quick dig through the comments suggests it’s a cold room, and not a steam room. And a freezing cold one at that.A space-age version of a ice bath, then, is Ronaldo’s recovery method of choice, and it has plenty of benefits. Otherwise known as whole body cryotherapy, this recovery method can, according to CNET, facilitate “faster workout recovery times, reduced inflammation, pain relief, muscle healing, weight loss and increased flexibility.”It’s likely Ronaldo would have hit his cold room immediately after a workout or a training session, as this is the optimal time to enter in order to allow the muscles to recover as best as possible. As for reducing inflammation, whole-body cryotherapy works in a similar way to when you put some ice on a bruise or when you sprain a joint. The incredibly cold temperatures work to help reduce the inflamed area, so in the case of whole-body cryotherapy, it serves to ensure the entire body reaps the full benefits.Again, it’s not entirely clear from Ronaldo’s video, but the cold room he’s entering could be set to a sub-zero temperature potentially as low as -200-degrees Celsius (and could indicate why he’s wearing gloves, to help keep some warmth circulating around his body). There are some risks associated with whole-body cryotherapy, as indicated by WebMD, so it’s always important to ensure you receive advice from a health professional before you try it for yourself. Because of the extreme cold temperatures imposed on the body, the risks can include aggravating high blood pressure, heart disease, lung disease or poor blood circulation. Cristiano Ronaldo is unlikely to suffer from any of these conditions, so he’s able to undergo the treatment without worry. While having access to a futuristic cold room such as Ronaldo’s isn’t feasible for everyone, the humble ice bath is a perfect alternative (though you need to be careful with them too, and not push yourself too hard, too soon).Read Next

Video: Shaq Unloads On Ben Simmons
Shaquille O’Neal has unleashed on beleaguered Sixers star Ben Simmons. Simmons has refused to play for the Sixers all season, reportedly because of a critical answer his coach gave media months ago about his performance after a poor playoff game.
Sixers coach Doc Rivers’, after Philadelphia was eliminated from the playoffs by the Hawks last year, was asked by a journalist if he believed Simmons could be point guard on a championship team. “I don’t even know the answer to that right now,” Rivers said.
Since then there has been something of a standoff, with Simmons refusing to play, requesting a trade, and being fined millions of dollars for his refusal to play. On top of that, a new report by ESPN claims Simmons is “upset” with his teammate Joel Embiid over “critical postgame comments” he made after the same game.
These comments didn’t directly call out Simmons, but did reference an error he made. According to ESPN, Simmons is frustrated that his coach Rivers didn’t come to see him while he was training in Los Angeles last summer (after the controversy causing comment was made).

Also according to ESPN, Simmons doesn’t deny that he did not reply when Rivers contacted him several times over the summer to meet up. But ESPN claims Simmons still felt the coach and the organization should have done more, like come in person to one of his training sessions.
Those excuses, it seems, sound pretty weak to American former professional basketball player, sports analyst and one of the greatest NBA centres of all time, Shaquille O’Neal. Shaq recently shared his thoughts on Simmons’ holdout from the team on his podcast.
“Let me tell you why I’m pissed off,” Shaq said. “Magic paved the way for Mike. They wasn’t making no money. Mike paved the way for me to get all that bread I was getting. I payed the way for Garnett. Ben Simmons is messing the money up.” He added: “First of all they already think we’re spoiled, they already think we don’t deserve it, you making 40 million dollars and the only reason why you’re not playing is because your coach called you out.”
“You making us look bad. I’ve been in this moment many times… I didn’t go [make excuses], you acting like a baby. So he [Simmons] got in my DM and said some things and I said some things back.”
Shaquille O’Neal
Shaq then said he couldn’t reveal exactly what was said in the DMs. But he said the gist of it was that he told Simmons he was leaving his team mates hanging and that he needed to play.
Shaq also said: “He went to LSU. I care about him. I want to see him succeed. I want to see all these young [guys] succeed.”
Shaq also, on another occasion, said: “The difference between him and his soft partner is he can take criticism without being a crybaby and he still wants to play.”

Simmons’ coach Rivers clarified his comments (about whether or not the Sixers could win a championship with Simmons) in a September appearance on “ESPN’s “First Take” and said he does believe Philadelphia could win with Simmons.
Simmons has been working out privately at the Sixers’ practice facility in Camden, N.J., “and attends team shootarounds and film sessions to avoid being fined even more,” The New York Post reports.
It’s rumoured Simmons has been fined more than $19 million since the start of the season and could lose $12 million more if he doesn’t play the rest of the year.
That doesn’t seem to be Simmons’ focus, however, with a source close to him allegedly telling ESPN: “We don’t give a f–k about the money.” Simmons has also suggested there is a mental health element to his decision not to play.
The report by ESPN also delves into a number of other issues Simmons supposedly has with the 76ers, including the team having discussions about dealing him for James Harden after the trade deadline last year.
