Hotel Guest Reveals Why You Should Never Use Your Room’s Coffee Machine
Hotel Guest Reveals Why You Should Never Use Your Room’s Coffee Machine

A Reddit user’s photo of a hotel room coffee machine has made internet users fear for their small intestines…

Picture your standard late night arrival to a hotel. You drop your bags exhausted and jet lagged, ready to crash. You crash, then wake up early the next morning, tired AF. Not to worry, there’s morning coffee to be brewed: compliments of your room’s instant coffeemaker. You open the water tank to find this.

That’s exactly what happened to one Reddit user who stayed at the above (undisclosed) hotel. Growing in the coffee machine’s water dispenser was a form of mould or fungus which looks like it had been cultivating in there for a while. The unsightly find was quickly met by other hotel guests and workers who warned against the most common hotel traps from ice buckets to coffee cups to remote controls and even bed spreads. Basically, if all the warnings are followed, sleep in the hallway.

One user named msk1974 said:

“Business traveller here. There are 2 things I always check. Coffee pot and ice bucket.”

“Your example of the coffee pot is exactly why I check. I have also heard a story from a hotel worker about a guest who pissed in the coffee pot AND the water container of the iron. A guest tried to iron his shirt and noticed something was wrong. Shirt was ruined from ironing piss onto it.”

“People should also realise that the ice buckets are used all the time as puke buckets for drunken guests. If you plan on using one be sure to clean it out very good and always use the plastic bag insert.”

Another user also had a nasty encounter with an innocent hotel iron.

“Was in Vegas getting ready in my buddies room,” said NippleHead321 (not his real name).

“Started to iron my nice jacket when half way through drunk I noticed that it started to turn from a light grey to a dark purple.”

“Yeah, someone decided to pour bleach inside of it.”

And if you thought your air-conditioning was safe then think again, said a hotel worker, avenafatua00.

“I work at a hotel. Yesterday some clients told me that there we a lot of ants in her room. I couldn’t believe it so I went with her and took a look and basically they were everywhere.”

“Looked like they were coming from the air-conditioning. I called a technician to check it for me and turned out there were two dead rats in the machine and the ants were eating the shit out of them.”

“There was some worms as well and every disgusting shit you can imagine. And the smell was great. No idea how they got there. Needless to say we gave them a different room and didn’t charge them for the first night.”

A quick Google search will reveal that hotel rooms are fraught with bacterial dangers. Studies, in particular, have shown that the humble remote control is notorious as the dirtiest items in a hotel room.

This is followed closely by light switches, telephones, glasses and cups, bathtubs, beds and drapes. Countertops and desks recorded the least amount of bacteria so perhaps that could be your next bedding option. Your alternative is to suck it up.

Jason Statham & Dwayne Johnson Revealed The Most Masculine Way To Wear A Casual Suit
Jason Statham & Dwayne Johnson Revealed The Most Masculine Way To Wear A Casual Suit

Wearing a suit without socks will make you look like a wanker. We’ve heard all of the backlash before, especially in our own foray into the suit-without-socks menswear territory.

But what happens when two of the world’s most masculine on-screen action men, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, decide to rock up to their latest press screening without socks?

That’s exactly what happened in Beijing this week when the duo rolled up on stage for the ‘Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw’ press conference in some pretty cool summer suits — sans socks.

Man ankles? Mankles? It’s been debated about for ages but today these two men of the moment proved why this look should be at the top of every man’s style game.

Dressed in a light brown tailored suit Johnson cut a solid figure which kept things casually cool — not an easy feat for a guy who weighs 118kg. The suit was polished up with an open collar aubergine (unique purple) shirt without a tie whilst contrast was provided with a blue pocket square. Very nicely done. Look down at the feet though and it’s all about the leather loafers. During the warmer seasons it’s customary to rock loafers without socks, a move which Johnson pulled off seamlessly.

Over at Statham’s side things were much more summer casual and less polished bar for a very cool Rolex GMT-Master II in the coveted ‘Batman’ colourway. Statham opted for a navy blue suit paired to matching navy blue sneakers and a premium white tee. It was a safe yet very well put together look further bolstered by the suit and sneaker sans socks look.

The conclusion to all of this mankle action? Masculine men can do suits without socks too and it’s not as feminine or blasphemous as some traditionalists claim. If you’re still hesitant, summer is your best time to try this look. And if you still need help we’ve got you covered on the style front.

Australian Commando Shows You His Leg Day Workout To Get Explosive Strength
Australian Commando Shows You His Leg Day Workout To Get Explosive Strength

The name Scott Evennett is not for the faint of heart. Or in today’s case, the faint of legs. The ex-Australian Special Forces commando has built up a solid following over the years for his military style drills of fitness which can make F45 look like a fun run. Evennett’s latest leg day session is no different and is designed to challenge those who don’t just want their legs to look bigger but to also have some serious explosive strength.

It’s five rounds of pain but it doesn’t come without its leg day rewards. Unfortunately, walking straight the next day is not one of them.

Leg Day Warm Up

As you’d expect from an ex-commando, these warm-ups aren’t your usual run-of-the-mill yoga stretches. Instead Evennett recommends jumping on a BikeErg (air resistance treadmill) for a 5km (3.1mile) ride which should be completed around the 10 minute mark. Embarking on this kind of warm-up will prime the legs for heavy resistance training whilst getting the endorphins going for a positive mindset towards leg day.

Mobility Training

After your warm up, it’s time to hit the mobility training circuit to further prepare the legs for heavier exercises. These are normally dynamic stretches commonly found in standard sporting warm-ups.

Complete these across your workout space within a 10 metre range for each exercise.
  • Butt kicks
  • High knees
  • Squat walks
  • Bear crawls
  • Spider crawls
  • Front lunges (unweighted)

The benefits of mobility training will allow your joints to open up whilst identifying what your strengths are as well as weaknesses like flexibility.

5 Round Supersets

This is the crux of Evennett’s leg day. It involves 5 rounds of back squats with each round increasing in weight. In terms of weight Evennett says you should start from your comfort level and move through to your limit as the weight increases after each round.

  • 5 x Back squats with increasing weight in each set
  • In between each back squat set, add in a 200m BikeERG session in the standing position — this should take you roughly 2 minutes
  • Try to make it to the end as your legs will be feeling it by the final set

Finishing Off Leg Day

At this point it’s the home stretch which doesn’t really mean much in Special Forces vernacular. Evennett suggests finishing off the workout with:

  • 12 x Barbell lunges (6 lunges in and 6 lunges out 6)
  • Following this, jump onto the BikeERG again for a 100m stint in the seated position at half resistance to the first ride
  • This ride should take you no longer than 60 seconds as you’ll be focused on maximum output
  • Leg day ends with 30m Broad jumps (15m each direction) followed by a final 30 seconds on the BikeERG

The great thing about this particular workout is that it’s a serious change-up from regular gym leg days and focuses a lot on explosive strength. The hardest part is probably seeing how far you get.

8 Sailing Brands That Will Guarantee You’ll Look The Sharpest At Sea
8 Sailing Brands That Will Guarantee You’ll Look The Sharpest At Sea

When the high seas call it’s time to suit up and take it on in style. No, we’re not talking about a linen suit or tuxedo for your next fancy yacht party. We’re talking about proper hardcore sailing gear for those who aren’t afraid of getting smashed by a 10-foot wave in their pursuit of speed and glory.

Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or just getting started on an aspect of sailing you need the right gear to get the job done and one of the most fundamental aspects of sailing is clothing. When it comes to sailing clothes there’s no discrimination whether you’re racing in the America’s Cup or simply dawdling around in the harbour. Having the right gear can make all the difference especially when technical innovation comes into play to provide unprecedented levels of wind-blocking and waterproofing.

Before we get into the best sailing clothing brands though, there needs to be a bit of housekeeping for sailing unacquainted.

Sailing Clothing Layers

Sailing clothing is some of the world’s most extreme weather gear. Given that a crew can be battling constant saltwater alongside near-zero degree weather for hours on end, countless layers are often common. Serious sailing brands offer everything from a base to mid to outer layer and that’s before we even get to tech tops and tech bottoms which rely on the latest materials to get the job done. If you’re serious about sailing, be sure to understand your requirements before going all out on expensive gear. At worst you’ll be the guy with all the gear and no idea.

Where They’re Made

Serious sailing clothing brands (like the ones listed below) hail from countries which specialise in athletic wear, exploration and sailing. Think regions like England, Norway, New Zealand and the USA. Regardless of whether manufacturing has shifted to regions of Asia these days, the quality of these garments still holds a high standard of craftsmanship in order to meet the requisites of work at sea. As such, you’ll often find innovative materials like Gore-Tex used in the outer lining of jackets and pants dedicated to sailing whilst under layers can combine everything from microfleece to neoprene to nylon for superior body heat insulation.

Where To Buy Them From

The best place to score sailing clothing is at the source itself. This means going directly to the labels and brands that are dedicated to making sailing gear. In our list, there are big-name brands like ZHIK, Musto, North Sails and Slam which all have online storefronts for budding sailors to muse over. Some of these sailing clothing brands even have bricks and mortar outposts so if you’re keen to get a feel of the gear in person, simply drop by your local sailing shop under any of these names.

Drake’s $200,000 Watch Didn’t Help His Dad Jeans
Drake’s $200,000 Watch Didn’t Help His Dad Jeans

Are we being a bit harsh? Perhaps, but for a man worth a reported US$150 million, we’d hoped that Drake could maybe give a bit more attention to his denim game.

At the Uninterrupted Canada launch in Toronto over the weekend the the rapper was spotted alongside the NBA’s LeBron James on the red carpet.

Drake kept things super casual with a tie-dye hoodie from his own label, OVO, alongside the offending pair of jeans, white Nike Cortex sneakers and a US$212,000 Patek Philippe Nautilus Perpetual Calendar set in white gold.

But first, the denim. Drake isn’t known for rocking fitted or skin tight denim and that’s cool. The ones he’s wearing here lean more towards the fitted end of a regular cut but it’s the length that needs work. When left in a bunched mess at the feet, the jeans can really take a street-inspired look like this one down a notch — yes, even if you are rocking a $200,000 Patek Philippe. A simple solution? We recommend getting the distressed denim altered by just taking it up an inch for a much cleaner look.

And now we get to the watch. With Richard Milles as part of his regular rotation, Drake is no stranger to big ticket watches and this Patek Philippe Nautilus Perpetual Calendar is one of his more subtle ones.

Reference 5740/1 is the first Grand Complication in the Nautilus collection which means it’s packing quite a few features. This includes a day, date, month, leap year and 24-hour indication by hands on a blue sunburst dial. The subtleness of the piece comes from Patek’s thin mechanical movement which allows for a 40mm white gold case that’s just 8.4mm thick. The striking timepiece is accompanied in a matching white gold bracelet.

Those who want to follow in Drake’s footsteps will have to shell out large. The watch currently retails on Chrono24 for a cool US$212,000 (AU$335,000).
