Who is Fred Schebesta?

Fred Schebesta is an Australian entrepreneur who is best-known as being the co-founder of Finder.com.au, which has grown to become Australia’s biggest comparison site. Fred founded Finder in around 2008, when he was 26 years old and it initially started life as a site to compare credit cards. After experiencing huge demand, Finder eventually expanded into a website that compares pretty much anything you can think of. Fred says he wants the site to be “the Amazon of comparison.”
Fred admits he wasn’t the most studious child at school, claiming he was “a rebel.” He found enjoyment in competitive sports such as tennis and chess but he says his parents still noticed a lack of motivation in him.
Fred did attend Macquarie University in Sydney to study, although he decided to change his degree to one in finance, but in his spare time he began building websites for his friends and family, for free.
Showing obvious talent, Fred was paid to build a website for his neighbour’s business in 2001 and from this, Fred set up the digital marketing agency, Freestyle Media. Fred and his business partner Frank Restuccia later sold Freestyle Media, before setting up Finder.
Finder is now a global business worth $300 million.
Fred Schebesta Crypto
While Finder certainly generates a lot of income for Fred, he really made it big through investing in cryptocurrency. He is said to have invested a great deal of money into Bitcoin when it cost around $4,000 per coin, before the crypto coin experienced a dramatic spike in 2017.
Now referred to as a Crypto King, Fred expanded the Finder empire to create Finder Ventures in 2018, an investment company whose sole mission it to help develop “global brands that will transform the lives of everyday people.”
Through Finder Ventures, Fred launched another company, HiveEx, which is a crypto broker that allows high-net-worth individuals trade large sums of money within the world of crypto. The key selling point is that HiveEx offers a fixed price on trades on Bitcoin and a select few other major cryptocurrencies.
Finder App
Following the successful launch of HiveEx, Fred set to work on developing the Finder app, which launched in 2020. The Finder app doesn’t just make it easy to access comparison information on-the-go, but through it, you can connect your bank accounts and access financial management tools, with the app showing you a range of products that could offer you potential savings.
Fred Schebesta House

Fred Schebesta currently lives in what he has dubbed the ‘Crypto Castle‘, a palatial waterfront mansion in South Coogee, Sydney, which he bought for around AU$16.85 million in 2021. Fred appears on the second season of Amazon Prime‘s Luxe Listings, which also stars notorious Sydney real estate agent, Gavin Rubinstein.
But, he’s also giving wealthy individuals a chance to stay in his home, after he listed it on Airbnb for just over $52,000 a night. Fred previously owned a penthouse apartment in Tamarama, Sydney, which he hoped to sell for over AU$7 million. But, it has yet to sell and currently has a guidance price of $5.8 million.
Fred Schebesta Wife & Family

Fred Schebesta keeps his private life, private, and so not much is known about who is in a relationship with. It has been documented that he separated from his ex-wife, and that he has two daughters from that relationship. He also has a son, going by some of his posts on Instagram.

Many travellers say books ‘hit different’ in the airport. The reasons range from the lack of demands on your time when you’re travelling to sheer boredom lending itself to better concentration. It’s also possible the type of book you tend to pick up at the airport (read: thrillers and beach reads) has something to do with it...
We’ve discussed the ‘airport hot’ phenomenon (where strangers seem more attractive at the airport than in other settings, due to the sheen of mystery that surrounds them) and the airport beer phenomenon, but what about books? Why is it easier to get engrossed in a book on an uncomfortable boarding gate seat than it is on your couch at home?
Based on an informal poll of friends and colleagues, as well as the good people of Twitter, I have come to believe I am not alone in thinking books, like beers, “hit different” at the airport. Just check out a few of the below statements.
Buying a book at the airport hits different don’t ask me why
— Sarah (Mad Girl Summer Version) (@girl_on_books) August 24, 2021
Buying books at the airport bookstore hits different
— no jem lover no option⁷ (@ihatetsunderes) March 6, 2021
In less than a minute, I was able to pull up multiple variations of the phrase “books hit different at the airport” on Twitter, as well as grand ideas for airport library systems (“what if we could start an airport library system where you borrow books for each leg of your journey and pay a small deposit fee to ensure you return it at the next airport”) and comparisons to other things that hit different (see: “books in the airport = sandwiches at the beach”).
Pleasure reading books you buy at the airport just hit different
— hannah stack (@haystackkk) March 4, 2021
reading a fiction book on a plane >> watching movies it just hits different (random idea but what if we could start an airport library system where you borrow books for each leg of your journey and pay a small deposit fee to ensure you return it at the next airport)
— Mallika Parulekar (@mallikathinks) March 27, 2022
books you read at airports just hit different
— erifili (@marauders) June 15, 2020
It’s not just book fanatics on Twitter preaching this. Frequent traveller Marta Gutierrez told DMARGE: “I sat down right in front of my gate in the quietest and smallest airport in the south of Spain. The book I was reading (The Girl On The Train) was just getting me so hooked. I relied on flight announcements to board, but by the time I looked up at the screen to London, my flight had already left without me!! I couldn’t believe it.”
DMARGE entertainment writer Bec has had a similar experience on public transport. “I personally find reading good books in a public place a risk,” she said. “If the book’s incredibly engrossing, I lose track of where I am. I have missed my train stop many times because I was so focused on the story; I’ve even cried in a cafe over a sad plot line and then realised I was getting many funny looks because of all the tears…”
This Penguin article from February offers some further reasons why reading hits different in the airport, talking about how airport bookshops narrow your selection for you, “sometimes forcing you to pick up something you might not otherwise.”
The article also delves into how limitation can actually be a good thing: “There’s only so much room in your baggage, which means that airport shops naturally force you to be as selective as possible – you can only bring the best, the most page-turning, or the most practical.”
“Human beings love limitations, and airport bookshops are the ultimate mix of restriction and indulgence.”
Penguin
The article also claims: “Travel and books are already bedfellows – books can help us travel both practically (think guidebooks and non-fiction travel-writing) and metaphorically (to other places, eras, and mindsets in fiction and poetry) – and there’s nothing better than planning what to read on holiday, either.”

Another potential theory is that airports make people feel important (and so everything you do there gets elevated by association). As columnist Shlomo Chaim Kesselman once wrote: “In the airport people carry themselves differently, as if they matter. You can just see it written on their faces as they purposefully wheel suitcases down the terminal, or grab a bite before they board.”
“Even after the trip is over, people indulge in stories of their travel experiences as though they are heroic battle accounts. Trivial stories of brusque flight attendants or stubborn customs officials are blown into epic tales of suspense and intrigue, analyzed blow by blow.”
“Is it because the tickets are so expensive, or because between security, passport control and the flight crew, there are so many people assigned to deal with you? I think not. I think that travel makes people feel important because when travelling, we have a mission, a destination. And that means we matter. Here in the airport, we are going places, literally and figuratively.”
HuffPost, for its part, published an article in 2012 entitled “why do we always take books on vacation,” calling books a “masseuse for the mind” and theorising: “It’s about escape,” The article pointed out that when you travel “there are no phones to answer, no dishes to be done, no difficult questions to answer or things to feel guilty about…” It’s easy to see how this lends itself to stress-free reading.
On the other hand, not everyone finds books “hit different” at the airport. In fact, DMARGE Head Of Operations Kate Perrett completely disagrees.
“I always have something to do at the airport,” she said. “I never read at the airport. What airport are you going to?”
Kate also pointed out it’s not quite the same when you have kids, explaining that when you travel as a family it’s pretty rare to have time to sit down and read, because as soon as you get through security your kids will want to get something to eat (after first checking out every restaurant and cafe on offer), then they’ll want to get a drink at a different place, and then just as you are about to stand up to walk to your boarding gate they’ll want to go to the toilet.
As Jamie Weiss, DMARGE’s car and watch writer points out, there can also be an element of self-consciousness to reading at the airport or on a plane, as you worry other passengers might think it’s “performative” and judge you for what you’re reading, in a way that you simply wouldn’t worry about when it comes to your movie choice – simply because watching a movie is the “normal” thing to do on the plane.
Stephanie Convery, writing for The Guardian, has also tcommented on this. She wrote (speaking about people showing off their holiday reading lists): “Every year, about this time, my Instagram feed fills up with pictures of books. They’re piled somewhere between five and ten inches high, sometimes stacked neatly, sometimes in pleasing disarray.”
“There’s invariably a Booker prize winner or shortlistee in there, along with that novel everyone’s been raving about since August, and a self-help book masquerading as an important comment on our times. Maybe there’s a classic or two, a slender small-press gem, and the next big thing in new release nonfiction.”
Stephanie Convery
She added: “There’s an art to the summer reading stack, of course. It’s balanced in genre, represents diversity of authorship, covers off at least two major preoccupations of the zeitgeist while nodding to the greats of literature past…”
“But I can’t help but wish for a little honesty. Because you’re probably not going to read that 700-page literary prizewinner this summer, are you? And when you flop down on your beach towel/poolside deck chair/the couch after a summer bender, are you really going to pick up that terribly important but probably quite difficult political nonfiction? Or are you just going to flick on the TV and watch Henry Cavill grunt woodenly for three hours?”
Another great insight from her article is the following: “It’s not that those books don’t deserve to be read – the merits of authorship or the contribution to literature made by the worthy writers in these visual reading lists has nothing to do with it. It’s just that like most things we post on social media, the summer reading stack is both aspirational and performative.”
“’I want to be the kind of person who reads books like this on my summer holiday,’ it says. But implicit in the act of posting the photo for public consumption is the hope that we become someone who is at least seen as the kind of person who reads those books on their summer holiday – whether or not we do actually read them.”
Stephanie Convery
There you have it: an important dilemma for you to ponder the next time you’ve got two hours to kill at the airport. And yet another good reason to pick up something ‘trashy’ – or an airport thriller.

Looking for the warmest, comfiest men’s winter coats to beat the forthcoming chill? You’ve come to the right place.
Keeping warm during winter can sometimes be easier said than done. There is the obvious method of layering up your clothing, but if you start to boil from the inside, you need to remove them and carry them around with you for the rest of the day.
What you really need is a top-performing winter coat that will serve as a single layer either over a sweatshirt or fleece jacket when temperatures really do plummet.
We’ve, therefore, picked out some our favourite brands that offer winter coats for men that deserve your attention in preparation for winter. With a range of styles catered to, including puffer jackets, overcoats and parkas, you’re sure to find the winter coat for you.
And, while the majority of our favourite winter coats will help repel water, if you’re looking for a waterproof rain jacket specifically, then be sure to check out our favourite rain jackets available right now.
Of course, no two winter coats are made the same, and different brands will utilise different fabric technologies in the fight against harsh winter conditions. To help you with some of the more technical jargon, here’s what you should be looking out for when looking for your next winter coat.
Features to look out for in men’s winter coats
Gore-Tex
Gore-Tex is perhaps the biggest name in waterproof, breathable fabrics, having been around since 1969. Gore-Tex fabrics can both repel water – such as rain – while still allowing water vapour (such as sweat) to pass through its membrane, resulting in a breathable finish.
Coreloft
Coreloft is a brand of synthetic non-woven insulation material, which sees polyester fibres being crimped together to trap air, resulting in a material that is highly effective at retaining warmth. It’s naturally hydrophobic too, meaning it repels water, so will be equally effective in both wet and dry conditions. Coreloft is primarily found in Arc’teryx winter coats.
Down vs Synthetic Insulation
Two of the main terms you’re likely to come across when searching for a winter coat refer to the insulation: down or synthetic. Which insulation type you choose will depend on what you intend to use your coat for.
What is down insulation?
Unless the manufacturer clearly specifies the insulation in its jacket is made from feathers, down is in fact made from the plumage found underneath the feathers on a goose or duck. Down is an excellent insulation material, making it ideal for a coat intended for extremely cold weather climates. It’s also naturally breathable, meaning it will happily draw sweat away from your body.
The lightweight nature of down also lends it to be packable, so if you ever get so warm you need to take your winter coat off, you should be able to easily stuff it into a bag. The main downside to down insulation is that it doesn’t function so well if it gets wet. Some coats will cater to this, covering them in a highly effective waterproof outer layer, but if the down layer is on the outside, you’ll want to hope you don’t get caught in the rain.
However, with down also comes the addition of fill power, which we’ll cover later.
What is synthetic insulation?
Synthetic insulation is manmade. However, it is designed to mimic the qualities of down insulation but can still function as well even when wet. It’s made by taking various sizes of polyester fibres and intertwining them, which in turn holds heat within several air pockets.
While this is great news for a winter coat, more of it is needed to replicate the same effect as down, so synthetically insulated winter coats will be heavier than their down counterparts. However, if caught in the rain, synthetic insulation will dry much much faster than down.
DWR
Durable water repellent refers to a coating that is applied to various fabrics before they roll off the production line to make them water-resistant. It’s not uncommon to find DWR treatments on materials such as Gore-Tex to help minimise the amount of water it’s required to repel. DWR treatments can become less effective over time but can be re-treated as necessary.
Down Fill Power
Down fill power is indicated by a number, usually between 300 and 900, that indicates the loft of the down insulation in a winter coat. This basically refers to how warm the coat will be, with the higher the number meaning the warmer it will be, due to the larger weight of air the down can trap.
Some winter coat manufacturers, such as Canada Goose, provide information indicating the temperatures you’ll be able to comfortably withstand, depending on the down fill power of the winter coat you choose.
Best Men’s Winter Coats FAQs
Before buying, consider the type of jacket you need based on your activities, the insulation it provides, and, of course, the quality. Make sure it fits you well so take your time trying on different styles. A good winter jacket is an investment, so be prepared to shell out hundreds of bucks for it. Buyers usually spend an average of $100 to $300 on a winter coat, but they can go for more than $1000 depending on the brand. Your wool coats and down jackets must be cleaned once or twice a season. For your fleece jackets, washing after wearing them six to seven times is the norm. At its most basic level, a coat will be made from heavier materials than a jacket, and will generally be warmer too. A coat will also tend to be longer than a jacket, falling below the waist. Volvo is known for three things: station wagons, safety and being a little bit boring. But as their superb V60 Cross Country demonstrates, you should reconsider that last stereotype – indeed, Volvo’s latest station wagon is so fun and so luxurious, it gives Mercedes-Benz a run for its money.
Volvo’s reputation for conservative yet safe cars is well-earned. The Swedish firm has been responsible for inventing and introducing many safety features we now consider indispensable in modern cars, such as the first three-point seat belt, side airbags and adaptive cruise control.
They’re also well-known for their station wagons. The 200 Series wagon, in all its boxy glory, is arguably the archetypal station wagon. My family had a 240 when I was young that we’d inherited from my grandpa: it was like driving a tank, it was so slow (and so beige!) but it was totally bulletproof.
Yet Volvo has a long history of turning even its most staid of wagons into fun performance. Just think of the 850 R, which was so sporty it was even raced in touring car championships in both Australia and the UK; or the original, paddock-bashing Cross Country, which precipitated the off-road wagon/crossover craze that’s borne cars like the Škoda Octavia Scout or Subaru XV.
Volvo’s latest Cross Country, the V60 Cross Country, is their best yet. Combining serious performance credentials with a truly luxurious driving experience and boatloads of practicality, it’s the opposite of boring.

The V60 is currently the only station wagon Volvo offers in Australia (a somewhat shocking state of affairs, truth be told) and they only offer it in one flavour: in Cross Country form in B5 spec, which gives you a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine plus a 48V mild-hybrid system mated to an eight-speed traditional torque converter automatic good for 183kW/350Nm and 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds.
Those numbers are nothing to sniff at, but they don’t really tell the full story. Despite being a fairly boat-like wagon, the V60 Cross Country is an exceptionally, surprisingly nimble car. Not only does it have plenty of pep off the line, but its quick throttle response makes it a great highway lane merger. It also sounds amazing, that turbo-four producing a lovely note that you’d never think would come out of a mild hybrid car.
RELATED: Peugeot’s Latest SUV Is Weird Like A French Car & Luxurious Like A German One
Off the highway, the V60 Cross Country is also exceptionally capable, thanks to its 203mm of ground clearance and solid all-wheel drive system – but this overlanding bent doesn’t compromise comfort or sportiness when you’re not in the greens.
It’s shocking just how complete the driving experience is. It feels like it can do a bit of everything… And do it in style, too. The interior is unbelievably nice – very Scandi and minimalist yet not obtrustively so like a Tesla – and the exterior oozes a sort of high-tech muscliness that’s really rather interesting. This Swedish car may as well be German. Actually, it’s better looking than its German rivals.

Wagons are just starting to see a bit of a resurgence after years of the SUV and the crossover largely supplanting their place in the market. Wagons are cool again – and the V60 Cross Country is arguably the coolest, something that might surprise people who think of Volvo wagons as being bland.
Actually, the sad thing is that the V60 Cross Country has very little competition in Australia. Mercedes doesn’t offer the C-Class wagon Down Under anymore, let alone the raised All-Terrain – and even if it did, the Volvo is a better car. The Audi A4 allroad and BMW 3 Series Touring are great cars, but they’re more expensive, and Subaru’s offerings lack the refinement of the V60.
Ah well. Let Volvo reclaim the station wagon throne. They deserve to, thanks to how good the V60 Cross Country is. Check it out for yourself at Volvo’s online showroom here.

Many Australians came forward and provided some truly hilarious responses when asked if Vegemite expires or goes off by an American man. Enjoy…
To make a somewhat generalised statement for a moment: Australians love taking the absolute mickey. And one American learnt this the hard way when he asked on Reddit whether the Australian delicacy, Vegemite ever expires or even has an expiry date.
Rather than answering with a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’, Aussies did what we do best and provided this American Reddit user with some hilarious responses.
Many Australians suggested that Vegemite is everlasting and would survive through severely catastrophic events. For example, one Reddit user wrote that only “Two things will outlast humanity: 1. Microplastics 2. Vegemite.”
Likewise, one Reddit user wrote, “The real answer is about 12 months after purchase as the Use By Date, but this stuff and cockroaches are the only things that will survive a nuclear war.”
One Australian humorously compared Vegemite’s shelf life to politics: “It’s 70% salt so you probably have at least another 6 Australian prime minister changes before it stops being effective against drop bears.”
Reddit user Pavlo77tshirt is clearly passionate about Vegemite and wrote a particular lengthy but priceless response. “Vegemite, like a fine wine, gets better with age. I still have some jars from the 1995 vintage. They’re aging quite nicely, with notes of chocolate, bison breath, hints of backyard incinerators, fragrant cigarette butts, and smelly horse saddle flavours.”

“Medium-bodied and saucy but racy acidity stabilises the spread nicely with the robust tannins. Should pair well with ham, cheese, tomato on toasted buttered rye bread. 94 points”
Reddit user Pavlo77tshirt
According to one Aussie, Vegemite is the key to living a long life despite indulging in an unhealthy lifestyle.
“It’s why you see all them flogged out old blokes who punch a thousand durries a day out in the sun live to be + 90. That right there is the secret.”
Reddit user masterkush122
Of course, some Australian Reddit users took the post seriously and gave their honest opinion about whether Vegemite has an expiration date or not. The prime example being a comment from Reddit user goodgollymissdolly_ who actually worked for Vegemite and spilled a trade secret.
“My comment will certainly get lost. However, I used to work for VEGEMITE (they prefer it to be spelled in all caps) and I can confirm that while it won’t go ‘off’, its taste will change. It’s why people often think the recipe has been changed when they get a new jar – believe me, they will never change that recipe.”
Reddit user goodgollymissdolly_
Overall, looking at the Reddit thread the general consensus of the serious answers was no, Vegemite does not expire. However, as the majority of answers were not serious but instead hysterically trivial, it could be argued that the post ultimately proves that the vast majority of Australians are larrikins who love a good joke…

Streetwear fashion is the foundation of our style. Hoodies, graphic tees, basic tees, jeans, trousers, snapbacks… the list could go on; all of these are staple pieces crucial in defining our off-duty, casual wear. Your go-to streetwear brand says a lot about you, as there are iconic streetwear labels pioneering street culture, but there are many ‘wannabee’ and ‘copycat’ brands too.
Finding an excellent streetwear label isn’t just necessarily just about the garments, it’s about the message and the attitude that lays underneath, as this fashion movement was founded on skater and hip hop culture, giving couture fashion a run for its money.
Founded in the early 90s, today streetwear is embraced by high-end designers, with the likes of Balenciaga, Aimé Leon Dore, Valentino, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, and Dior, hopping on the contemporary fashion train. With brands like Obey and Off White developing a huge fan base, streetwear breathed new life into the fashion industry, as luxury clothing started to merge with an urban, bold aesthetic.

Having a quality snowboard to tackle the slopes with is essential for the snow season and as such, having one of the best snowboard brands strapped to your feet will do. With so many great styles of snowboard, all fused with the latest technology, it’s clear snowboarding has come a long way since the mid-sixties, when the ‘father of snowboarding’ Sherman Poppen bolted two skis together.
But with so many different types of snowboards, it’s hard to find the perfect one for you. When purchasing a snowboard, there are so many things to consider as the perfect snowboard for you relies on the shape, length, width, skill level, and snow condition.
While you want it to be tough when riding along even the most unforgiving terrain, you always want your snowboard to feel poppy and responsive. You also want to ensure it has a sufficient surface area and is excellent for turn initiation as you want to ride with ultimate precision.

Finding the best snowboard for you can be a daunting task. However, to help you with this process, we’ve rounded up the best snowboard brands that are redefining the industry with their innovative designs. Make sure you check out each brand, as these snowboards are performance-enhancing and will make you feel super powerful as you shred through powder.

If you’re going snowboarding anytime soon then you need to make sure you have a high-quality snowboard jacket to protect you from the cold temperatures, snow and water or moisture.
When finding a suitable snowboard jacket, brands have developed impressive technologies designed to keep your whole upper body warm even in some of the harshest climates. However, this doesn’t make it any easier when carefully selecting your new jacket for a season on the snow, as there are so many different options – from shell jackets with internal handwarming pockets to rain jackets with fully taped seams.
Make sure you find a snowboard jacket with an excellent waterproof and breathability rating. A jacket tailored for you to move freely while keeping you dry in wet, cold weather is the benchmark for snowboard clothing. Also, for the more aggressive snowboarders, you may want a jacket offering pit zips and underarm ventilation, helping airflow supply.
Oh, and don’t forget, you want your snowboard jacket to look good for the inevitable beers at après ski.
Snowboard Jacket vs Ski Jacket
The main difference between a snowboard and a ski jacket is that a snowboard jacket will be longer at the back (this is known as a skirt). This is to help protect your precious behind when you inevitably fall off your board, because nobody likes a soggy bottom. Skiiers, meanwhile, have the luxury of being able to fall in any direction, so they will be reliant on their ski pants to protect their lower body.
Snowboard jackets FAQs
What jackets do snowboarders wear?
There are many features snowboarders look for in jackets. Ultimately, they look for adequately insulated jackets with wind and waterproof capabilities. Also, a snowboard jacket that is easy to move in, designed with lightweight and breathable materials is ideal.
Can you snowboard in a puffer jacket?
Puffer jackets offer a great combination of warmth and lightness. If you're looking for a jacket to wear for warmer days on the slopes - a puffer jacket is suitable. However, if you're after outerwear that provides optimal insulation properties and more coverage, you may want to try a shell jacket or a parka.
Should a snowboard jacket be tight or loose?
A loose snowboard jacket may risk snow elements creeping in. Make sure your snow jacket is a snug fit without feeling stuffy or bulky. A fitted jacket that allows additional layering and a full range of movement is essential to consider.
