Given its more upmarket status, you might not expect to find too many pubs in Paddington. And, while that is somewhat true, you can still find a number of watering holes that tick off the criteria that makes a good pub.
Admittedly, the vast majority of Paddington pubs are a little more lavish than those you’ll find in the likes of Newtown, for example, but make no mistake, they still offer a great place to grab a drink and a bite to eat with friends and family.
But which of the Paddington pubs should you put at the top of your must-visit list? Or have you found yourself in Paddington and looking to Google “best pub near me”?. Allow us to do the work for you and round-up our five favourite pubs in Paddington.

The Unicorn Hotel
106 Oxford Street, Paddington, 2021

Ok, so to backtrack a little on what we said in the opening few paragraphs, The Unicorn Hotel is not only one of the most traditional pubs in Paddington, but in the whole of Sydney. It was taken over by the Mary’s group a few years ago and they decided to keep it as old-school a pub as possible.
To this, we mean you’ll find a classic selection of Australian beers on tap, plus a few from nearby Young Henry’s brewery, along with classic pub food done right: steaks, burgers (including Mary’s burgers) and schnittys. The Unicorn is a very simple pub in the nicest way possible, making it an absolute must-visit whenever you find yourself in Paddington.
The London Hotel
85 Underwood Street, Cnr of William Street, Paddington, 2021

The London has occupied its corner spot just back from Oxford Street since 1875 and has been a favourite of locals and visitors alike ever since. Everything The London pub in Paddington does is straightforward, from the drinks selection to the food menu, to the decor inside.
The beer selection isn’t the largest ever, but you’re sure to find something you like thanks to a range of local and imported brews, including the likes of Guinness. As for food, it’s classic pub grub, think pizzas, burgers, steaks and a few salads. A “semi-outdoors” courtyard is a great spot to find yourself in the summer too but unfortunately, The London is currently not dog-friendly, although it fully supports the campaign to legalise dogs in all pubs in Australia.
The Village Inn
9-11 Glenmore Road, Paddington, 2021

The Village Inn was the first pub in Paddington Village to open its doors to customers, way back in 1890. Much of that old-world charm has been retained today, with Chesterfield leather sofas, dark wooden beams and a rustic-style bar attracting much of your attention.
There’s plenty of reason to visit too, whether it be for the delicious food being served from the kitchen or to snap up a table on the balcony in summer. It’s a great Paddington pub to watch live sport too, with TVs on both levels, and it even makes a perfect pitstop for anyone attending the Sydney Cricket Ground for an event.
The Light Brigade
Corner of Oxford Street & Jersey Road, Woollahra, 2025

The Light Brigade is more than just a pub in Paddington, it’s somewhere to go for a proper night out or weekend drinks with friends. Set over multiple levels, you’ll find the main bar on the ground level, a bistro on level 1, a cocktail bar on level 2 and a seriously impressive rooftop terrace at the top. It really is one of the best pubs in Paddington.
True pub-goers and beer drinkers will likely congregate in the ground level bar, as it dishes up classic pub food, accompanied by an electric range of beers and drinks. It’s also here where you’ll find big screen TVs to watch live sport on and some TAB facilities are available for those who like a flutter.
Lord Dudley
236 Jersey Road, Paddington, 2021

The Lord Dudley Hotel pays great homage to old English-style pubs and offers customers a huge selection of beers to choose from, to be enjoyed alongside a vast selection of pub food. The Lord Dudley is an incredibly welcoming pub in Paddington and even has a few open fires to sit by when the temperature drops.
There are regular events and discount meals every day during the week and there’s even a good chance you’ll find some live music when you pop in too.

Bank Hotel
324 King Street, Newtown, 2042

Less than a two-minute walk from Newtown station is where you’ll find The Bank Hotel. An imposing building on Newtown’s King Street, The Bank is a place that has something for everyone. The large main bar on the ground floor serves up a vast array of beers and wines, while Upstairs at the Bank is a cocktail bar and live music venue all rolled into one. You’ll want to make sure you take a regular look at what’s going on at The Bank, as there’s always some form of live music, trivia night or other form of entertainment to make your night out one to remember.
Newtown Hotel
174 King Street, Newtown, 2042

Another equally iconic building on King Street is Newtown Hotel. Step inside and you’re welcome by a huge bar adorned by several beer taps and with plenty more tins in the fridges. The ground level also has a dedicated space for live music – Newtown Hotel is just one of the many venues that supports King Street Carnival – while outside you’ll find a large dog-friendly beer garden complete with its own bar. Upstairs gives way to a wrap-around balcony to look down on King Street below and throughout the venue, a menu comprising pizza, burgers and schnittys can be enjoyed.
Union Hotel
576 King Street, Newtown, 2042

Take a left out of Newtown Station and make a short walk down King Street and you’ll come across Union Hotel. Another Newtown pub that supports King Street Carnival, The Union is big on live music. The front bar is also a perfect spot for groups to mingle, with pool tables, a wide range of beers being poured out of the 22 taps and TVs showing live sport. A back bar area complete with heated courtyards provides a more intimate setting to enjoy some food, a beer or a cocktail and the Union is more than happy to cater to group bookings.
Courthouse Hotel
202 Australia Street, Newtown, 2042

One of the few pubs genuinely worth visiting that isn’t on King Street is Courthouse Hotel. With one of the best beer gardens of any Newtown pub, The Courty is well worth deviating from the main strip. However, it is this popularity that means you should try and nab a spot in the garden as early as you can because if the weather is good, you can bet your bottom dollar it will fill up quickly. The Courty is welcoming of anyone and everyone and especially encourages everyone to bring their dog. A proper community-driven Newtown pub.
Coopers Hotel
221 King Street, Newtown, 2042

One of the loudest and most vibrant Newtown pubs on King Street is Coopers Hotel. A quick glance of the website reveals all you need to know about this boozer, with something happening every night, whether it be discount meals, trivia or even “gender bender bingo”. The kitchen slings out classic pub food and you’ll find a generous selection of local and imported beers and ciders on tap. Situated slap bang in the middle of all that is going on in Newtown, the Coopers Hotel is the place to be.

Sydneysiders who have the travel bug know just how long and arduous (and expensive!) it can be to get to certain parts of the world. Take Italy, for example.
Getting to the country that boasts the Trevi Fountain, the Leaning Tower of Piza and the Colosseum, as well as scrumptious pasta and delectable gelato, can take over 22 hours – if flying from Sydney to Rome; flying into other Italian cities takes even longer! Not to mention; Sydney Airport is ridiculously busy at the moment.
However, if you’re itching to get your Italian on, without subjecting yourself to long flights and jet lag, there is an alternative. About a forty-minute drive from Sydney’s CBD is a small hidden Italian village that’ll take your Instagram feed to the next level, it’s so picturesque.
The ‘village’ is actually a part of a quaint bed and breakfast called Guestlands AKA La Casa Del Disaronno, owned by Jenny & Peter Guest. During COVID, the two decided to renovate their sprawling property and added an impressive Little Italy, if you will, and now offer an immersive experience for anyone who decides to go and stay there.

Upon arrival, you’ll be encouraged to make yourself a delicious Disaronno Fizz cocktail from the complimentary ingredients in your private room, or as Jenny & Peter call them, “villas” – and in all honesty, the rooms really are like villas. They are all huge, with stunning Italian-inspired furnishings, and each has its own balcony and large ensuite.
Then you’re welcome to explore the grounds, which feature beautiful gardens and a massive swimming pool. Of course, you can also just sit back and relax in the Tuscan-inspired mini village or ‘piazza’, from which all of the villas are accessible.
The piazza – which is where you’ll want to take the bulk of your Insta pics – features impressive architecture, a long, winding cobblestoned street adorned with nice, subtle touches like a red Vespa, and the Trattoria – where you can cook yourself a complimentary breakfast in the morning.

While at Guestlands, you can also choose to participate in the dinner activities; which I highly recommend. One night, you’ll be able to make your own woodfire oven pizza with fresh delicious ingredients and then you’ll be treated to a performance after you eat. I won’t spoil what the performance is though, as it’s a rather nice surprise.
The other dinner on offer at Guestlands is an exquisite three-course meal prepared by chef, Kim Blume and I cannot express how enjoyable it was; seriously the entree, a pumpkin and ricotta Crespelle with burnt sage butter, was the best thing I’ve ever eaten.
I will admit there’s not much to do at Guestlands aside from wine, dine, unwind and take pictures, (very in line with the slower-paced lifestyle Italians are known for) so if you’re after an exciting and dynamic getaway, perhaps the B&B isn’t for you.
But if you’re wanting a relaxing break where you can read by the pool, take a nice stroll and gorge on red wine and cheese platters (which are complimentary) then save yourself the flight to Italy and get yourself to this mini Italian village instead. It’s simply Bellissimo!

Rado’s been on a real winning streak lately. The Grenchen, Switzerland-based watchmaker, famous for its use of ceramic in watches, has quietly become the 12th best-selling watch brand in the world – eclipsing much more famous brands in the process.
This is in no small part thanks to the Captain Cook. Rado revived their stunning vintage dive watch after a 50-year hiatus back in 2017, a move that’s really paid off for the brand. Retro-looking, capable and incredibly good value, the Captain Cook has quickly become a favourite among modern watch fans.
Last year, Rado released the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic: a real meeting of worlds which saw the iconic timepiece clad in Rado’s futuristic ‘plasma’ ceramic. Now, in 2022, Rado’s come out with another ceramic interpretation of the Rado Captain Cook, called the Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Diver.
Our verdict? If the High-Tech Ceramic was already the perfect watch for the great outdoors, the new Ceramic Diver is even better.

Rado fans will probably be asking, what’s the difference between the Ceramic Diver and the Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic model that came out last year? Well, the Ceramic Diver features a traditional opaque dial, stainless steel caseback and a date function, whereas the 2021 HTC has a smoked sapphire crystal dial and caseback with no date function.
RELATED: Rado’s Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Is The Perfect Watch For The Outdoors
Otherwise, the Ceramic Diver still boasts a 43mm case size, 80-hour power reserve and 300m of water-resistance – all good stuff for a dive watch.
While we are a big fan of the unique look the smoked sapphire dial and caseback give the 2021 HTC, a date function is a really important feature on a watch and makes the Ceramic Diver just that little bit more practical. It also makes it a little more legible – a crucial feature for a dive watch.
Additionally, where the 2021 HTC is entirely crafted from Rado’s smooth ‘plasma’ ceramic, the Ceramic Diver is crafted from matte ceramic (with bracelets featuring matte ceramic end links and plasma centre links, with the exception of the olive green model’s bracelet which is entirely matte).
The matte ceramic significantly changes the aesthetics and ergonomics of the watch, making it feel and look even tougher and stealthier, especially when it comes to the olive green, which is our favourite of the three new Ceramic Divers. On that note: the Ceramic Diver comes in four colours: black, olive green, and then two grey versions, one with a blue dial and one with a grey dial.

Additionally, the black and olive green variants of the Ceramic Diver are available with a colour-matched rubber strap with a Milanese bracelet-like texture. This rubber strap is easily one of the most comfortable and durable rubber straps in the business, and it makes picking between the nifty ceramic bracelets and the rubber a really tricky decision.
All in all, the Rado Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Diver is a very compelling proposition. Capable, scratch-resistant (thanks to that ceramic construction) and very good looking, it’s one hell of a package. It’s clear to see why Rado’s so successful if they’re coming out with watches like this one.
Discover the whole Captain Cook range at Rado’s online boutique here.

Paris seems to divide people; some think it’s the best city in the world, while others think it’s an overrated hodgepodge of rude Frenchmen and dog poo.
But TikTok user, Lili Debois thoroughly enjoys living in the City of Love and especially loves her apartment. In a TikTok video, Lili shows off her apartment which is tiny but has been decorated in a way that celebrates the space (or lack thereof).
In the video – which you can watch below – you can see that while her apartment is small and has odd angles, it also features a working fireplace, an American-style kitchen, lots of natural light and a decent-sized bathroom.
With the caption, “I’m no interior designer but I love my little home in Paris,” Lili has highlighted in her TikTok vid that she’s utilised the space carefully and while her apartment is clearly small, it doesn’t look cramped or unlivable. In fact, it looks cosy and homely.
This got us thinking: despite the fact that Parisian apartments are notoriously tiny and expensive – perhaps there is a good reason they are still so sought after. Perhaps they are even…the best apartments in the world.
Still not convinced? Well, we did some sleuthing on your behalf. Here are a few more reasons why Parisian apartments are the best in the world.
They keep you fit: living in a cramped space in an old building with a barely serviceable lift means you will often find yourself taking the stairs. That’s a win in your legs’ book.
RELATED: Living In Paris: What You Learn Living In A Tiny Apartment For Four Years
Parisian apartments also make you more inventive and resourceful (and liable to eat fresh food). Why? Because you don’t have enough space in your cupboard to store heaps of food. So you may as well buy fresh from the grocers each day.
Also, as Snippets of Paris points out, many Parisian buildings are historical and have “old-world charm.”
On top of that, Paris is super walkable. In fact, in Paris, you rarely need to drive or take an Uber (an alien concept to most Sydneysiders or LA residents, and, we would argue, yet another reason Paris’ small, expensive apartments are worth putting up with).

Plus, in Paris, you can get extremely delicious baguettes and fine wines for cheap – and we mean cheap: for a good bottle of wine you won’t need to pay more than three euros, which is roughly US$4. Not to mention the abundance of cafes, restaurants, bars, shows, theatres and ballets you can go to in Paris.
The trade-off to all these pros is that you probably just have to settle for an apartment that is barely bigger than a shoebox but hey, if you decorate it as nicely as Lili has decorated hers, you’ll be saying nothing but ‘j’adore’ about it.

Bali is a rite of passage for every Australian yet to ride a scooter into a ditch (or so the stereotype goes).
To some it’s a paradise, to others it’s a warning of what happens when tourists get treated like gods. But whether you’re a backpacker, a digital nomad, or a short stay holidaymaker, there are certain pieces of advice you’d benefit from hearing before your next trip to Bali.
Enter: The Canggu Pole. The Canggu-based meme account regularly updates its page with hilarious, and occasionally poignant observations about what it’s like living in Bali.
We recently learned about tourists’ craziest Gojek (Indonesia’s equivalent of Uber) stories as well as their craziest Bali travel stories.
Today we came across yet another gem on the page: a series of Instagram stories in which people living in Bali share “random Bali related advice.”
One warning is particularly timely, with tourists now flocking back to the Island of Gods.
“Don’t drunk drive. Take Gojek.”
Though you shouldn’t drunk drive anywhere, it’s a particularly important reminder for Australians in Bali, given how often we seem to end up in accidents when we escape the nanny state and let loose overseas.
“Don’t be too proud to take scooter driving lessons if you’ve never driven one before,” another person advised. These were far from the only driving-related rules survey respondents sent in, with The Canggu Pole claiming over 200 people had replied with: “Wear a helmet.”
The Canggu Pole added: “You realise how stupid you look without one, right.”
Keeping in the theme of road rules, another Instagram user wrote: “Look both ways always.”

Further good (but unrelated) pieces of advice to heed from the survey were: “Always use notaris” and “[Check out] Revolver on a Friday.”
Then there was some advice which more than a few travel addicts could probably do with hearing: “Don’t get a dog if you just f**k off again and leave it behind.”
Moving on from that, there was some advice around etiquette. One survey respondent wrote: “Respect for the people, rules and culture,” to which The Canggu Pole added: “Learn Bahasa Indonesia.”
Another piece of advice that may save you from making a cringe-worthy mistake is “when someone asks ‘where are you from?’ don’t answer ‘I live here.'”
More solid advice included the recommendation that you keep a cold flannel/towels in the fridge, and that you sort your third party palaver out before coming to Bali (“INSURASNCE BABYY”).
On top of that, we enjoyed what we’re dubbing the scooter shirt rule (“use a shirt when driving a scooter, no one cares about your muscles and tatts”) and the chillax rule (“learn to let the small things go, the frustration is not worth it”).
Next we have the sage piece of going out advice “ladies use a small bag and put it inside the motor trunk at night, even with gojek they’re ok with it.”
RELATED: I Found ‘The Australian Dream’… In Seminyak
The conversation also included a warning about hustlers, with one respondent writing: “Beware of business people in Bali – they’re usually hiding something.”
“Bali is the end of the road for a lot of people here. Expats operate with a different mentality and lose all concept of right and wrong. Avoid loud and aggressive people.”
The Canggu Pole

Finally, we have three more rules/pieces of advice which we’ll leave below for you to read.
One: “Be kind to the people serving you – their salary is your daily budget.”
Two: “Never trust a fart in Bali.”
Three: “When someone says they moved to Bali to be a coach, run.”
This article would also be remiss without adding the following Facebook comment which the meme account recently shared, which breaks down exactly where you should stay in Bali, based on your personality type…
Got it? Good. Now all you need to do is learn how to navigate the perils of Nusa Dua’s floating breakfasts and you should be sweet…

NBA star Ben Simmons hasn’t had a great few years. First, he asked for a transfer from the Philadelphia 76ers despite having four years left on his contract.
Then because he was seemingly frustrated at not getting traded, Simmons missed the 76ers’ training camp and pre-games, and eventually, stopped playing altogether due to not being “prepared mentally.”
Simmons was ultimately traded to Brooklyn’s team, the Nets, but faced a stark amount of criticism online for his behaviour pre-trade; he also received an extremely hostile reception when he went to Philly earlier this year.
Simmons has also not played a single game for his new team, the Nets, due to a back injury.
This back injury meant that Simmons could not play in Game 4 for the Nets – a game where the Nets were beaten by the Celtics by just four points – and, again, Simmons was condemned online for not playing.
Even former NBA pro-basketballer Reggie Miller was unimpressed with Simmons and sent out a Tweet implying that Simmons has no fire in him.
Now it seems that prior to Game 4, Simmons spent 23 hours straight playing COD (Call of Duty). A Tweet from user Broad Street Buddies has an attached screenshot of Simmons’ supposed PlayStation Network (PSN) account that shows the basketball player was playing COD and that he’d been doing so for 23 hours and 3 minutes…
Of course, fans chimed in. One Twitter user suggested that Simmons doesn’t have an injury at all and sarcastically replied, “bad back? Sure man,” while another defended Simmons (sort of) by writing, “I hate the dude but he could have been AFK [away from keyboard – meaning the game was on but Simmons wasn’t actually playing for the entire time elapsed].”
One Twitter user simply wrote, “Ben Simmons is a disgrace to sports.” Ouch.
If I’m being honest, I think it’s fairly normal that Simmons is playing video games while he’s off with an injury; wouldn’t any other 25-year-old in a similar situation spend their time the same way? And hell, it’s actually kind of impressive if he did actually play for 23 hours without a break. Maybe Simmons should become a pro-gamer instead…

Australia is currently having a love affair with gin. After years of being written off as ‘liquid depression’ by much of the population, gin has dramatically risen in popularity Down Under – and the quality and quantity of Australian gin distillers have also skyrocketed.
In a move that’s equal parts irresponsible and genius, one Australian distillery has come up with a simple but diabolical way to help fuel Australia’s burgeoning gin addiction: having gin on tap.
Four Pillars, one of Australia’s most awarded gin distilleries, has just unveiled a major update of their Healesville distillery’s bar, which rather than boasting a frosty row of beer taps, has a huge array of copper pipes piping gin directly into the main bar. Indeed, instead of beer taps, they’ve got tonic in kegs tapped into the bar. Madness.
While this sounds like a recipe for alcoholism, Four Pillars have done this for a good reason. Piping gin directly into the bar and serving tonic from kegs will reportedly save the distillery a whopping 29 tonnes of glass a year. The copper pipes that snake around the space also look cool as hell.

Sustainability has always been a focus for the highly-awarded distillery, which earlier this month became the first gin distillery in Australia to be certified as carbon neutral.
Actually, calling Four Pillars’ new space just a bar is underselling it a bit. Wineries have ‘cellar doors’ and this is effectively a distillery door; an all-encompassing gin and hospitality experience that Four Pillars hopes will set “a new benchmark for craft gin distilleries worldwide.”
RELATED: This Clever Ice Tip Will Take Your Gin To Another Level
The update to the Healesville site, dubbed Healesville 2.0, features an al fresco ‘gin garden’, multiple event areas, a dedicated Four Pillars gin shop and of course, that copper-clad main bar.
It’s a really beautiful space, and at just over an hour’s drive from Melbourne in the picturesque Yarra Valley, Four Pillar’s Healesville 2.0 might just be one of the best day trip prospects in the country. (As long as you have a designated driver, of course.)

As beautiful as it might be, we’re not going to lie: we just want to try out the novelty of gin on tap. Call it the quickest Negroni on the planet?
You can find Four Pillars’ Healesville distillery here. If you’re from The Harbour City, you need not fret: Four Pillar’s Sydney Laboratory and its accompanying bar, Eileen’s Bar, have long been loved as one of the best date night spots in the country, too.

Lewis Hamilton, arguably the best Formula 1 driver of all time and seven-time F1 World Championship winner, isn’t just interested in racing.
The 37-year-old is also passionate about implementing positive social change; for example, he changed his name legally to include his mother’s surname and only eats a plant-based diet.
In 2019, Hamilton also co-founded the first international plant-based burger chain, a vegan restaurant, named Neat.

Although Hamilton is a full-fledged vegan himself, he hopes that Neat will also pique interest and make it easier for meat-eaters to try a plant-based meal every once in a while.
“We created Neat Burger to make plant-based eating more accessible to everyone, whether you eat plant-based all the time or just want to add it to your diet every now and again.”
Neat currently has eight locations in London but the company has just announced they plan to open twelve more locations in the US by the end of 2022 and are aiming to have one thousand US locations by 2030.

Not only this but veteran actor and Oscar-winner, Leonardo DiCaprio has just joined Neat as a strategic investor. In a statement, DiCaprio – who is also well-known as a climate change activist – said:
“Disrupting our food system with sustainable alternatives is one of the key ways we can make a real difference in reducing global emissions. Neat Burger’s pioneering approach to alternative proteins is a great example of the type of solutions we need moving forward.”
One thing’s for certain; with the combination of Hamilton, DiCaprio and burgers under its belt, Neat has a shot at becoming wildly successful. McDonalds, watch your back…
