American Man’s Incredible Transformation Proves It’s Never Too Late To Get Ripped
American Man’s Incredible Transformation Proves It’s Never Too Late To Get Ripped

The general consensus suggests that once you hit a certain age, it becomes nigh on impossible to get into scintillating shape. The Harvard Medical School says that after you hit 30, your heart’s capacity to pump blood around your body drops by 5-10% per decade and that guys in their 40s naturally begin to lose muscle, so any weight gained is, more often than not, fat.

It can be all too easy, then, to accept nature’s plan for you and to not bother trying to fight it. But that way of thinking should be a thing of the past if this image of Jason Parrish – @gentlemanjacked – is anything to go by. Charting his fitness progress over a couple of decades, it’s clear that Jason hasn’t given up on his quest for total ripped-ness, transforming his body from big to downright huge.

A post shared by Fitness Database (@fitnessdatabase)

It’s a slow process of course, with him needing 20 years of dedication to achieve his physique. Whether or not you believe he achieved this figure with or without the help of steroids (which of course is not something to aspire too), the sheer transformation is still impressive.

RELATED: Peptides: The Truth About How They Impact Your Health

Not to mention: though many commenters accuse Jason of juicing, supplement specialist Modex has previously told DMARGE not only is it impossible to know for sure if someone is on steroids just by looking at them, but:

“Regardless of which route taken, you would need to be training just as hard to get the result you are aiming for, it’s just that one has a much longer list of warnings.”

But what if you don’t start your body transformation until later in life? Another man, in particular, is living proof of – and a strong advocate for – being able to get ripped, fit and healthy in your middle-age.

Speaking to New York-based nutritionist Max Lugavere, 54-year-old Rich Roll came to fitness late in his life (at least, serious levels of fitness), but he is now a fully accomplished ultra-endurance athlete who has successfully completed some of the most gruelling races on the planet.

A post shared by Max Lugavere (@maxlugavere)

Admitting to Max that he did involve himself with some form of fitness and exercise during his University years (he was a keen swimmer in the 80s while at Stanford University), it wasn’t until he was in his “mid-40s” that he became an ultra-athlete.

Rich’s back story shows he battled with drugs and alcohol leading up to his 30s and a day before his 40th, he found himself unable to walk up a simple flight of stairs.

It was this moment of defeat that spurred him on to turn his life around. He immediately adopted a vegan diet and began putting in the hours to shed the fat and become the ultra-athlete he is today.

RELATED: American Couple’s Incredible Fitness Transformation Proves The Power Of Simple Changes

“I knew how to push my body, I don’t know if you’re familiar with what it’s like to train as a swimmer at a certain level, but you’re putting in like 20,000 metres a day”, Rich begins telling Max.

“I’m a workhorse and I had a certain amount of talent as a swimmer, but there were plenty of swimmers who were much more talented than me”,

However, Rich went on to reveal the mindset that allowed him to overcome the obstacles in his path,

“I learned quickly and early as a young person that I could bridge that talent deficit gap by outworking the person next to me.”

“So I developed this capacity for load, like, endurance load. And I knew how to do that as a swimmer so when I got interested in endurance sports, I didn’t take the time to educate myself what it would mean to excel as a triathlete”,

“I had this engine, and it was a matter of tapping back into not just those practices, but I think that endurance machine runs latent throughout your life, like if you’ve done it in the past you’re able to connect with that again much more easily than somebody’s who’s doing it for the first time.”

That last sentence does indeed spark an interesting dilemma. What if you’re 40 – 50 but have never run a 5k before, or have lifted heavy weights? It’s not impossible to get started, although, if you’ve previously dabbled with exercise you’ll have a helping head start.

Ultimately, it comes down to your mindset, something change expert Andy Anderson has previously detailed to DMARGE.

“If you shower every day, why aren’t you focusing on having a good internal dialogue and a positive narrative every day? Those things are as important as showering, but we don’t generally pay attention to them.”

LeBron James Celebrates 2020 With Fastest Porsche Ever Made
LeBron James Celebrates 2020 With Fastest Porsche Ever Made

While The Bat Kiss might still be ravaging the United States, it’s not all doom and gloom for sports-mad Los Angelenos.

The 2019-2020 NBA season playoffs wrapped up in October, with the LA Lakers beating Miami Heat in the finals to nab their first NBA championship in a decade. It was a strange season for the NBA, with the last eight games of the regular season and the entire playoffs being held at a specially-designed ‘NBA Bubble’ at Walt Disney World in Florida. Still, the Lakers brought home the bacon – in no small part thanks to the prodigious skills of a certain Mr. LeBron James.

The highest-paid player in the sport and one of the greatest basketballers of all time, LeBron is an unparalleled sporting tour de force. The 2020 NBA Finals added some significant silver to LeBron’s already expansive collection: not only is it his fourth NBA championship but he was also named the NBA Finals MVP for the fourth time too – becoming the first player in NBA history to be named Finals MVP with three different franchises (the Lakers, the Heat and the Cleveland Cavaliers).

Accolades like that deserve a hefty reward, we think. Funnily enough, ‘King James’ is on the same wavelength. Looks like he’s celebrated his 2020 success in a big way: the 6ft 9in giant was spotted hurtling down a Californian highway in a black Porsche 918 Spyder – the fastest Porsche ever made, and arguably the fastest car ever made – worth around US$2.2. million.

The 918 is an incredibly unusual and rare car. A plug-in hybrid convertible powered by a 4.6L V8 in conjunction with two electric motors, it makes 652kW and 1,280Nm of torque, and was independently verified by Car and Driver of doing 0-60mph in a blistering 2.1sec – the fastest 0-60 time ever recorded. That puts it ahead of insanely fast cars like the Bugatti Chiron, Lamborghini Huracán Performante, McLaren 720S and the Tesla Model S Performance with ‘Ludicrous Mode’.

RELATED: ‘Will Never Happen Again’: Porsche Shuts Down Runway At Sydney Airport For Entire Day

Porsche only made 918 of them between 2013 and 2015, and their headline-snatching performance means they’re hard to come by, not only because they’re in demand but because that insane speed has meant more than a few have seen an untimely demise. They originally retailed for US$845,000 but prices have skyrocketed in recent years.

LeBron’s got plenty of reasons to celebrate. He’s just signed a 2-year, US$85 million extension with the Lakers – more than enough to afford a Porsche 918. He also splashed out on a $325,000 Richard Mille watch as part of his post-playoffs spending spree… Must be nice.

Manic London Scene Betrays Hooligans’ Changing Taste In Fashion
Manic London Scene Betrays Hooligans’ Changing Taste In Fashion

All good cities are a little bit weird.

Sydney’s a sunny paradise… but its residents look at real estate like pharaohs. Tokyo is a bizarre mix of centuries-old tradition slapped right up against the cutting edge and kooky, shrines and maid cafes around every corner. And of course, New York, New York: home of the ‘New York Minute’, it’s crazier than an episode of Seinfeld.

London, like the other world cities previously mentioned, is also delightfully weird. From the publically-sanctioned ranting and raving of Hyde Park’s Speakers’ Corner to the silly costumes and strutting of the Queen’s Guard, The Swinging City is as strange as they come.

One particularly strange London moment occurred yesterday morning when over 300 young people descended on Harrods, one of London’s most famous department stores, sparking fears of a terrorist attack, news.com.au reports.

Image: Phil Lewis/WENN

While such a large group of people – few of whom were wearing PPE, plus some of which were threatening police and security – was certainly confronting, thankfully people’s worst fears weren’t realised. However, what we found shocking (aside from the blatant disregard of social distancing), wasn’t the crowd itself.

No, what we found shocking is that it seems as if the British hooligan’s time-honoured choice in outerwear is changing.

Chavs, bods, scallys, whatever you want to call them – virtually all youth subcultures in the UK are in some way indebted to hooligans. Football hooliganism has a long and proud tradition in the UK. The image that’s most commonly associated with the subculture is that of the ‘casual’: tough young men who wear designer outerwear instead of club colours in order to evade detection from law enforcement and to intimidate rivals.

Many classical hooligan brands are Continental in origin: Adidas, FILA, Lacoste, Sergio Tacchini… But by far and large the most stereotypical hooligan brand has always been Stone Island. Known for their high price, experimental fabrics and iconic black arm patch branding, the Italian brand has in recent years become part of the hypebeast pantheon thanks to its association with hip-hop, up there with designer streetwear brands like A-Cold-Wall*, Gosha Rubchinskiy and Off-White.

However, it seems as if Stone Island is falling out of favour. Perusing images of this strange Harrods rush, you can see literally dozens of young men wearing Canada Goose jackets – it can’t be a coincidence. Seems as if one premium outerwear brand is being replaced with another.

A post shared by Canada Goose (@canadagoose)

Founded in 1957, Canada Goose is (you guessed it) a Canadian winter clothing manufacturer, known for their incredibly high-quality garments and distinctive red sewn patch logo. In many ways, they’re quite similar to Stone Island: premium, minimalist branding, functional yet fashionable. It’s somewhat more affordable than Stone Island and crucially, isn’t quite as well known in the public consciousness.

It makes sense. Since American rappers like Drake, Post Malone and Travis Scott have started wearing Stone Island, it’s started to lose its working-class, ‘if you know you know’ credibility. Canada Goose doesn’t have that baggage. Rocking a Canada Goose parka is still a way to flex (and stay warm) but it’s less overt than a Stone Island jacket. Indeed, wearing ‘Stoney’ these days is a way to get noticed, not to avoid attention, especially from the police.

We wonder what other brands are on the way in. What’s next: a sea of Kathmandu puffers out the front of Selfridges?

Australia’s Frequent Flyer ‘War’ Escalates Yet Another Notch
Australia’s Frequent Flyer ‘War’ Escalates Yet Another Notch

Two weeks ago, Qantas offered a seductive deal, which allowed frequent flyers from other airlines to switch to The Flying Roo, fast-tracking their status if they jumped to The Sunny Side.

Now Australia’s Other Big Airline, Virgin Australia, is returning the compliment. From today, Qantas Frequent Flyer Gold status and above members are invited to receive a Velocity Discover Gold Status trial membership, with Virgin offering to status match said Gold members and above, if they switch to The Purple Disco.

Some news outlets have characterised this as a conflict, with The Australian calling it a “frequent flyer war,” The Daily Mail calling it a “counter attack” and Business Insider describing how the airlines are “battling it out.”

“Virgin Australia Goes One Better On Frequent Flyer Offer,” Virgin Australia announced, claiming “any airline can match a member’s status, but no airline can match our service!”. Though the airline does appear to be getting back on its feet, it may take some time to shift certain passengers’ cost-cutting perceptions after the ‘Noodlegate’ incident earlier in this year (though that’s a story for another day).

In any case, Virgin is far from alone in tightening its purse this year.

Virgin Australia also announced they will extend the status of existing Gold and Platinum Velocity Frequent Flyer Members for up to a year if they fly at least once (on an eligible flight) before the 28th of March 2021.

To discover the gold match status offer Qantas Gold status and above members must fill in a short expression of interest form by the 21st of December 2020. This will enable them to receive a three month Velocity Discover Gold Status trial membership, which offers complimentary Lounge access, priority boarding, preferential seating, higher checked baggage allowances, and lucrative bonus points when customers book and fly with Virgin Australia.

“To retain Velocity Gold status for 12-months and receive an additional benefit of Velocity Gold membership for their companion, they are only required to take one eligible flight and earn 80 status credits during their three month Discover Gold Status trial period,” Virgin Australia announced.

“This is a highly sought-after reward only previously awarded to the most active Velocity members.”

“Status Credits can also be maximised through Velocity’s unrivalled family pooling benefit, making it easier for members to quickly climb the status ranks and start flashing their Gold card at Virgin Australia lounges,” Virgin Australia announced.

There were further incentives to fly announced too: Velocity will reward Gold and Platinum members with 5,000 bonus points when they take two eligible flights with Virgin Australia by 28 March 2021, the airline says, and Economy X upgrades will also be offered to Velocity Gold members, and Business Class upgrades to Velocity Platinum members, when they take three or more eligible flights in the same period.

Speaking at Brisbane Airport, Virgin Australia Group CEO Jayne Hrdlicka said domestic airline competition was alive and well and thanked the airline’s loyal Velocity members, particularly those who have stood by the program and the airline this year.

“Virgin Australia was the first airline in Australia to bring genuine competition to the domestic market, and that competitive spirit is in our DNA, so we’re happy to offer a more compelling loyalty offer than what is currently in market.”

“Travellers are longing for fun and friendly service, consistent on-time performance, an exceptional safety record and value when they travel, and these are the things that Virgin Australia is so well-known for and why people choose to travel with us over our competitors.”

In regards to the status match being offered to members of Qantas’ frequent flyer program, Hrdicka said, “We’re pleased to welcome Qantas members to Velocity who are interested in taking advantage of cheaper fares, award-winning cabin crew, and great rewards for ongoing loyalty. We look forward to welcoming them onboard this summer season.”

Hrdlicka also hinted more initiatives may be on their way: “This is just a sign of things to come, and that the good news will keep coming from Virgin Australia.”

Finally, Virgin Australia also announced, “Velocity Frequent Flyer members are an important part of the future of Virgin Australia and the measures announced today follow confirmation that the airline’s Melbourne and Sydney lounges will reopen on 15 December.”

“The Brisbane Lounge reopened last month and the airline’s Gold Coast, Perth and Adelaide lounges will reopen early in the new year.”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic Takes Training To New Extremes In Latest Exercise Session
Zlatan Ibrahimovic Takes Training To New Extremes In Latest Exercise Session

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one of those rare individuals who is both an egomaniac and well loved. He recently opened up to Sky Sport, telling the news network, “My ego went down, so I went to America to start from scratch,” referring to the period in time he went from Manchester United to LA Galaxy – a move many thought signalled his time in the big leagues was over.

Ibrahimovic is now defying age however, having had quite a remarkable season with Serie A club AC Milan, proving there’s more than a little top tier life left in the 39-year-old legend.

As Goal reported in July, Ibrahimovic, who played for AC Milan earlier in his career, as well as their rivals Inter Milan, “is now the first-ever player to reach a half-century for both Italian giants, who share use of the legendary San Siro stadium.”

“His total goal haul in club and international football now stands at 552 in 934 matches, a tally only bettered by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo among players active in the game.”

How does he keep kicking (literal and figurative) goals? His fanatical approach to training provides a clue. Enter: the outspoken Swede’s latest Instagram post, which simply (perhaps cryptically) reads, “Try to stop me.” This alongside a video of Ibrahimovic training – jogging – in the snow.

This comes after speculation he may retire next year, which has been previously shot down on Instagram by Ibrahimovic (“you don’t know me”) various times before.

SBS reported yesterday “The veteran striker has impressed since returning to the Serie A club at the start of the year, although talk about his future continues after he turned 39 in October.”

But Ibrahimovic, who is contracted until the end of this current season, says he wants to continue while he can.

“As long as I will continue to feel good. Because when the years go by, we no longer talk about quality, but only about how you are physically,” he told Sky Sport, SBS reports.

He also spoke (again, to Sky Sport) about why he spent two seasons at LA Galaxy (and why he returned to Europe) after rupturing his ACL whilst at Manchester United.

“Why did I go to America? Because I wanted to start from scratch, I thought that, perhaps, after the injury, I would no longer be able to do the things I did before at Manchester United. I told [Jose] Mourinho, ‘Don’t call me anymore, with all due respect I am no longer the Ibra I was before.’ I was being realistic towards myself, my ego went down, so I went to America to start from scratch.”

“I didn’t know what awaited me, but after two years I felt alive and I said, ‘Let’s go back to Europe and see if I can do it or not.’ That’s why I signed up for six months, to evaluate myself. I have my vision, my confidence, but then it all depends on the results on the pitch.”

“It is one thing to have vision and trust and then step into the field only to be told you can’t take it anymore. It doesn’t really matter what people say – because you don’t have to be influenced from outside – you have to trust. That’s why I say it’s all ego.”

His future at AC Milan beyond the end of this season remains unclear. But rest assured: it appears he’s doing all he can to keep in shape. Talk about a Viking mentality...

Provocative Photo Reveals Painful Truth About Sydney’s Outrageous Property Market
Provocative Photo Reveals Painful Truth About Sydney’s Outrageous Property Market

The Harbour City might be beautiful but it’s also one cruel mistress, in between its bougie proclivities, ‘culture-less’ reputation and of course, its insanely over-inflated property market.

Indeed, Sydney has one of the least affordable housing markets in the world, with Sydney coming in as third-worst behind Vancouver and Hong Kong in a 2020 Bloomberg report. Of course: there is an argument Sydney property deserves it’s so-called ridiculous price tag (which DMARGE recently investigated). But by and large it’s seen as low key ridiculous (see: The Truth About Sydneysiders’ ‘Pharoah Like’ Attitude To Real Estate).

RELATED: Sydney Man’s ‘Unbearable’ Experience Reveals The Perils Of Moving Too Far Away From The City

While Sydney boasts its fair share of ~poppin’~ postcodes – think the Northern Beaches, The Rocks or the Lower North Shore – the Eastern Suburbs is easily the most exclusive part of the city. Harbour views, world-class beaches, close to the city and glitzier than Cristiano Ronaldo’s watch collection, Eastern Suburbs locales like Vaucluse, Darling Point, Bellevue Hill and Dover Heights are some of the most expensive suburbs in the country.

The insane wealth that conglomerates in the Eastern Suburbs is particularly poignant, even in a city like Sydney. Indeed, a particularly sharp example of Eastern Suburbs opulence got Aussie Redditors fired up last night, with a photo posted to /r/sydney aptly titled as “when two cars have a better view of Sydney than 95% of the population.”

Image via Reddit.

The photo, taken of a house on Wolseley Road in Point Piper – Australia’s most expensive suburb and just around the corner from former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s $52 million mansion – is a little bit rude. Not only is the view from this place’s garage to die for, but the cars inside aren’t bad either – two large Mercedes-Benzes. You can also spot what appears to be a Porsche Boxster in the garage door’s reflection.

RELATED: ‘Will Never Happen Again’: Porsche Shuts Down Runway At Sydney Airport For Entire Day

/r/sydney was both envious and angry in equal measure.

“That garage could be a premium apartment if they wanted,” one Redditor pointed out, “just throw a futon on the floor.”

“At least it’s glass panelling so us plebs can get a glimpse,” one quipped. “Just enough to create the jealousy that gives the status symbol its value,” another responded.

“You know there is just maybe something wrong with the world when two… cars have a home when there’s people starving on the streets,” was a particularly apt take.

But one short comment put it best: “pretty much sums up Sydney.”

Unsurprisingly, virtually all of Australia’s most exclusive suburbs feature ocean views or proximity. A notable outlier is Toorak in Melbourne’s Inner West, where you might be able to get a glimpse of the Yarra River if you’re lucky. Toorak is Melbourne’s most expensive suburb and Australia’s eleventh-most overall, and is also the only Melbourne suburb with a median house price of over $4 million. However, no Melbourne suburb has a median house price of over $5 million, whereas Sydney is home to nine, according to Upside.

We’re getting sticker shock… Excuse us as we permanently relocate to the Maldives.

Chris Hemsworth Sets ‘Summer Body Bar’ Unfairly High With Thunderous Workout
Chris Hemsworth Sets ‘Summer Body Bar’ Unfairly High With Thunderous Workout

Just when you thought Chris Hemsworth’s workouts couldn’t get any more terrifying, he drops this. Byron Bay’s most famous resident, Australia’s sexiest export, whatever you want to call him, the 37-year-old continues to impress.

After posting a workout showing off his shoulder, biceps, triceps and chest late last month, Hemsworth today took to Instagram again with a workout that inspires equal parts awe and fear (especially for those like Thor 4 co-star Chris Pratt who has already begged Hemsworth to stop making him look bad with his increasingly sizeable rig).

Hemsworth took to the pads with coach Luke Zocchi with some smacking combinations of uppercuts, jabs and hooks. Coach Zocchi seemed to be getting into it too, grinning as he backed away, encouraging Hemsworth to come after him and keep on punching the pads – which he did with fierce strength and a smile of his own.

“Kickin the week off right,” Hemsworth captioned the post, with the usual accolades (see: “Thor’s got handss” and “Dayum”) coming through in the comments (as well as requests he “fight Jake Paul”).

It’s hardly surprising Hemsworth is in rippling form right now – not only is he usually in good shape at the best of times in his informal role as the Ambassador for Good Health and Fitness for the entirety of Australia (as we like to see him), but he also has a fitness business venture Centr to look after, and is currently filming for the upcoming Thor 4 film, in which Hemsworth will be playing the iconic God of Thunder.

So: to all Australian men (and for that matter women) seeking summer body fitness inspiration. The gauntlet has been thrown. Make of it what you will (or trust we will be flung again into lockdown and keep on eating cake). The choice is yours for the taking…

Trending Reddit Thread Proves Why Everyone Should Visit Australia At Least Once
Trending Reddit Thread Proves Why Everyone Should Visit Australia At Least Once

It may be developing faster than you can say “The Hemsworths,” but Australia is still a country of simple pleasures. Yes: bays like Byron and Jervis may no longer be such sleepy backwaters but venture beyond and the iconic ‘back to nature’ experience still beckons.A timely reminder of this hit the internet overnight, as one r/brisbane Reddit thread began trending above the other posts in its category. The post comprised of a humble photo – a tent and a tree overlooking a muddy brown, Flinder’s Reserve creek, with Mt Maroon (which you can climb) in the background – and the caption: “Camping trip this weekend. Not so bad considering the heat.”

“The creek made it for me this weekend due to the heat. Loved it.”

Simple pleasures indeed. The Reddit user also shared a few more salient facts about their trip, including yes, the creek was ‘swimmable’ (“Yeah, Mate. Just a bit dirty. Nice and cool.”) and there were no mozzies (“None at all. It’s a fair bit inland and dry. Only a few march flies during sunset.”).

Image via Reddit.
Other Reddit users speculated the tent was situated in a region called Flanagan’s, which is apparently a “nice spot” with turtles. Granted: it’s not quite the Phi Phi Islands but hey: if you’re looking for the quintessential Australian experience, this is hard to beat.Another key insight for any budding tourists is that you should take care before emulating this exact scene, especially in storm season. “Gutsy to park a tent under the gum tree!” one wrote. “They don’t call them widow makers for nothing.”“Lucky we aren’t in storm season yet,” another responded. With photos like this bouncing around the airwaves and with experts predicting Australia is set to see a shift ‘back to the 70s‘ when it comes to holidays this year, it looks like Tourism Australia may be able to kick back and put its feet up – Reddit and Instagram are doing its job for it…

Conor McGregor Attempts To Combine Boxing & Style With Risky $170,000 Patek Philippe Flex

Ah, the duality of man… Sometimes we’re little more than just monkeys in shoes, and other times we’re capable of class and elegance. In theory, at least. No man epitomises this better than Conor McGregor. The 32-year-old MMA champion and rabble-rouser might be a fiery, tattooed swagger monger – but he’s also got a deep appreciation for the finer things in life, like whiskey, haute couture and expensive Swiss watches. The Irishman shared a rather confusing collection of photos to Instagram yesterday, interspersing shots of him training in the gym with shots of Gucci polos and designer towels… As well as a few choice snaps of one of his favourite watches, his Patek Philippe World Time (ref. 5231J) worth around $170,000.

Originally retailing for around $74,000, this intricate World Time watch was first introduced in 2019 and features a 38.5mm yellow gold case and cloisonné enamel dial centre. Cloisonné is a technique where enamel, glass, or gemstones are separated by strips of flattened wire placed edgeways on a metal backing – in this case, more gold and multiple layers of enamel.A rare and coveted timepiece, this World Time is the perfect watch for a flashy jetsetter like McGregor. To quote Bilal Khan from A Blog To Watch, “it tells you how rich you are in 24 time zones.” He likes to show it off, too, notably donning it for a photoshoot in late October of this year.RELATED: Conor McGregor Lands Knockout Blow With Patek & ‘Canadian Tuxedo’ CombinationWe’re not quite sure what he’s trying to achieve with this yin-yang gallery of fighting and flexing… Maybe it’s an intimidation tactic ahead of his fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 on January 23?

This Patek is by no means the only expensive timepiece ‘The Notorious’ McGregor owns. He also owns an aggressively bedazzled $200,000 Rolex Daytona ‘Eye Of The Tiger’ and a $215,000 rose gold Patek Philippe Nautilus among other lavish pieces.Maybe it’s all fight tactics?
