It’s Confirmed: Oscar Piastri Will Race For McLaren In 2023
It’s Confirmed: Oscar Piastri Will Race For McLaren In 2023

After an enormous amount of drama, Australia’s very own Oscar Piastri looks to be finally getting his Formula 1 debut in 2023 with McLaren.

The speculation is finally over. The 21-year-old Aussie wunderkind will be joining Lando Norris at British team McLaren for the 2023 Formula 1 season. Piastri will replace Australian racing driver Daniel Ricciardo.

The move was confirmed by McLaren and Piastri’s Instagram accounts simultaneously – avoiding the fiasco triggered by Alpine’s pre-emptive Tweet…

Oscar Piastri’s Formula 1 debut has been subject of a huge amount of drama. It was all triggered by Sebastian Vettel, who took the sport by surprise by announcing his retirement at the end of the 2022 season. Then Fernando Alonso, just days later, announced he was leaving Alpine to take Seb’s spot at Aston Martin.

When Alonso announced his departure, Piastri’s move to Alpine seemed like a foregone conclusion. Piastri, who has been acting as Alpine’s reserve driver this season and is part of Alpine’s driver academy, was previously speculated to be joining Williams in 2023 to replace Nicholas Latifi, who is all but confirmed to be leaving the sport.

With Alonso gone, it would seem natural that Alpine would give him the spot – and indeed, that’s what they announced. Then, hours later, Oscar responded, saying that Alpine hadn’t consulted him first and that he wouldn’t be racing with them next year. F1’s silly season has never been sillier.

Piastri taking Ricciardo’s seat at McLaren has been a major embarrassment for Alpine. There’s no word yet on what settlement McLaren had to make with the French team. What we do know is that McLaren will have to pay Daniel Ricciardo upwards of AU$35 million to release him from his contract.

Ricciardo, an eight-time Grand Prix winner, has struggled since joining McLaren in 2021, and a sword of Damocles has hung over the driver for months. Now it seems it’s finally fallen.

In comparison, Piastri, who was awarded the FIA Rookie of the Year award for 2021, has quickly built a name for himself as one of the most talented young drivers on the planet, and is widely considered to be future World Champion material.

Piastri has won 3 titles in 3 years – the 2019 Formula Renault Eurocup, the 2020 Formula 3 championship and the 2021 Formula 2 championship (the latter of which he both won in his rookie years in each category, a huge achievement) – but in what felt like a huge miscarriage of justice, found himself without a seat in F1 for 2022.

With Danny Ric’s future in F1 looking increasingly uncertain – he might even end up going to Alpine, actually – the fact that there will continue to be an Australian presence in the sport is good news for Aussie F1 fans, as well as fans of Australian humour.

Piastri might not be as much of a joker as the notoriously sunny Riccardo, but his personal brand of witty, self-deprecating humour has won him plenty of fans. Indeed, there’s some interesting synchronicity there, as just like Ricciardo, Piastri has Italian heritage.

We have no doubt that Piastri will succeed in F1. Affable, humble and dedicated, he’s got a winning personality and plenty of skill. He’s exactly the kind of role model young motorsports fans need. It’s just a shame that his entry into F1 has been marred by all this drama.

That said, McLaren will be seriously down on funds after paying out Ricciardo and potentially paying off Alpine. Fingers crossed they’ll be able to properly invest in their F1 programme and give Piastri the resources he needs to succeed.

Our big question is this: can Piastri, a Melbourne boy, do what no other Australian driver has managed to do in the race’s Formula 1 era and win the Australian Grand Prix? We’ve got high hopes.

We also hope Ricciardo finds a seat sooner rather than later.

The Sign Leonardo DiCaprio Was Already Single…That Everyone Missed
The Sign Leonardo DiCaprio Was Already Single…That Everyone Missed

Leonardo DiCaprio’s split from American model Camila Morrone most likely erupted onto your social media feed this week. But though many people are shocked Leo continues to break up with his partners (seemingly) the minute they turn 25, there’s something everyone missed that could have been a tell tale sign their relationship was already over.

Leonardo DiCaprio, who recently broke up with his girlfriend of four years, Camila Morrone (and who has now been spotted “partying” with 22-year-old model Maria Beregova), showed one sly sign of a relationship rupture before the break-up actually hit the news.

That sign? The dearth of dad bod. Now, before you throw your Ab Cruncher Pro 2000 at my head, hear me out. I know people normally get in shape after a break-up, but in the 47 year old Leo’s case, having a bizarre reputation as someone who only dates 20-25 year olds, perhaps it makes sense (he might have been worried he wouldn’t be able to keep up with young’uns partying, unless he whipped himself into shape)…

Another theory is that they’ve actually been broken up already for a little while, and it just went mainstream this week. Whatever the case, the result appears to be a trim looking Leo, with Instagram account @legends.inc claiming DiCaprio has recently been spotted strolling around Malibu, looking slim.

“Man is looking trim and ready to do some damage. Leonardo DiCaprio has been spotted out and about in Malibu sporting his impressive weight loss after speculation that he and girlfriend Camila Morrone have split,” the social media page wrote. Commenters were quick to weigh in with quips, like: “Wearing his finest colgne to Toys R Us” and “25 is like 60 in Leo years.”

Another fan wrote: “Great transformation!”, while yet another claimed Leo loves ciggies (“Leo loves darts”). All interesting stuff, and we can imagine the Hollywood icon’s every step, shuffle and romance will continue to be pored over by gossip mags for some time yet to come.

Stylish shoes 101 – If you’re after a fresh pair of kicks to add to your shoe collection, there’s nothing better than cool shoes that’ll boost your streetwear style up to the next level. For example, a pair of minimalist clean-cut block-coloured sneakers is just as cool as a shoe kitted out in a bright multi-coloured pattern; it depends on your tastes.

However, you don’t just want to buy shoes purely for the aesthetic. You want shoes that are well made with premium materials so the shoe will not only last a long time but will also protect your feet and keep them comfortable.

14 Popular Rose Tattoo Ideas For Men In 2022
14 Popular Rose Tattoo Ideas For Men In 2022

Rose tattoos are one of most popular tattoo ideas for men. The flower is universally recognised as a symbol of love and passion, although, if you get your rose tattoo finished in black ink, it could represent sorrow for a loved one who has passed away.

A rose tattoo can come in a wide range of styles, sizes and colours, making it incredibly easy to design a custom tattoo specifically for you. Some men choose to have a rose tattoo on its own, while others may want a rose to form part of a half or full-sleeve tattoo.

We’ve rounded up some of the most popular rose tattoo ideas for men to help provide some inspiration for your next piece of ink.

Rose tattoo meaning

While you certainly don’t need to have any meaning behind your rose tattoo, you may just like the flower, some men may choose to get one based on the numerous interpretations of the tattoo design. As SavedTattoo says, “for the unforeseeable future, roses have and will symbolise romance and beauty.”

However, this connotation is with a red rose. Roses can come in various colours and so the colour of ink you have your rose tattoo finished in can change its meaning entirely. A white rose tattoo, for example, can represent purity and innocence, whereas a pink rose is associated more with femininity than red.

For most men, however, a rose tattoo is simply an easy tattoo to get. If you want some ink, but don’t know what to get, get a rose. Simple. Here are some of the best rose tattoo ideas for men in 2022.

Traditional style rose tattoo

Image: @joemallardtattoos

If you want a really authentic tattoo, then you can’t pass up the traditional style. Made popular by legendary tattoo artist Sailor Jerry, a traditional style rose tattoo will inject plenty of colour and vibrancy. If you already have other tattoos that are done in a fineline style, you may want to avoid a traditional rose tattoo, as the styles just won’t match.

But, if it’s your first tattoo then a traditional style rose could decide the future path you go down if you decide to get more tattoos in the future.

Rose and dagger tattoo

Image: @glm.tattooartist

A rose and dagger tattoo is an incredibly popular option for men. Firstly, it can be finished in either colour or black ink, and for those who want their tattoos to have meaning, it is said a rose and dagger tattoo can symbolise opposites attracting. This is when the dagger pierces the rose. If you have them together, but without the dagger piercing the rose, then it can represent balance in life.

Rose hand tattoo

Image: @ak.tats

A rose tattoo is so versatile that it can be inked anywhere on your body. If you want to get a small rose then a great placement option is the hand. Tattoo artists these days are capable of ensuring your rose tattoo is as detailed as possible, despite the small size. You could choose to have a rose including its stem and thorns, or opt for just the flowering part on its own.

Single line rose tattoo

Image: @ricktatuador

Single line tattoos could have their own category, such is their popularity. Not only can a single line form an image that has meaning to you, but it makes for a tattoo that really is just as much a piece of art as it is something meaningful to you. A good placement option for a single line rose tattoo would be the forearm or even your leg, as you have access to a long vertical section of skin.

Rose chest tattoo

Image: @kb_inktattoo

A chest tattoo, no matter the design, needs to be one that you really don’t mind showing off the world. It’s guaranteed to make a statement. A rose tattoo makes a great chest tattoo option, especially if you have it placed on the sternum, like in this example. The vertical nature of the rose lends well to this placement, and it could also symbolise holding love in your heart.

Colour rose tattoo

Image: @inkanddaggertattoo

We have already touched on colour when talking about a traditional rose tattoo, but you can go one step further and opt for what is known as a neo traditional rose tattoo. Neo traditional is a style all on itself, and is similar to traditional, but will use more vibrant colours, thick lines and can make your tattoo look almost 3D.

Rose and snake tattoo

Image: @peloninkedup

Similar to a rose and dagger tattoo, a rose and snake tattoo is also an incredibly popular option for men. Some people suggest a rose and snake tattoo represents a love that has grown so strong that it can turn to temptation. Others say it can represent an unstoppable force – so if you’re on a particular high point in your life, a rose and snake tattoo option could be a great way to show it.

Rose neck tattoo

Image: @badjujutattoo

Love them or loathe them, neck tattoos are becoming increasingly popular. Definitely for people who like to take risks and stand out from the crowd, the neck presents a more unique placement option for your next tattoo.

A rose tattoo on the neck can look incredible. You will definitely want to vet your tattoo artist first, because your rose will be on constant show, so you want to make sure it’s going to look professional.

Rose and clock tattoo

Image: @jeremias_serrano7

A rose and clock tattoo is another classic combination. Many believe a rose and clock tattoo can represent everlasting love, immortality and even death. Roses on their own can be associated with death, and the addition of the clock implies our life is always ticking away.

Rose foot tattoo

Image: @liams_lines_and_designs

Because literally your entire body is ripe for tattooing, you may want to think about placing your rose tattoo somewhere a little different, such as your foot. Just remember, the skin on your foot is closer to the bone than on some other parts of the body, so expect the pain level to increase. You might want to start off with a smaller rose tattoo on your foot, so your session time is kept to a minimum.

Rose face tattoo

Image: @touch_of_madness_tattoo

Face tattoos have certainly seen a surge in popularity since Post Malone arrived on the scene. So, if you’re feeling particularly brace and courageous, you could choose to get a rose tattoo somewhere on your face. As with a rose neck tattoo, you’ll want to be 100% sure the tattoo artist you choose is competent enough to give you an incredible piece of artwork.

Money rose tattoo

Image: Next Luxury

A money rose tattoo is another increasingly popular option for men and could be a particularly great tattoo idea for men who have been particularly successful in life. It’s claimed a money rose tattoo not only represents love, but by being formed of monetary notes, adds the meaning of a passion for riches or an appreciation of your wealth and hustle required to reach it.

Simple rose tattoo

Image: Byrdie

Similar to a small rose tattoo, if your rose is your first tattoo or you just want something to add to your collection then a simple rose tattoo is the way to go. A simple rose can be devoid of any meaning if you wish, as it can simply serve to be just another piece of ink on your skin.

Rose forearm tattoo

Image: @bobison_tattoo

A rose tattoo can make a perfect addition to your forearm, either on the outer forearm or inner forearm. This is primarily thanks to their vertical shape following the natural direction of your forearm perfectly. You could opt for another example of a single line rose tattoo as seen in this example, or a more fully-fledged rose design.

I Switched My Phone For An Alarm Clock, Here’s Why You Should Too
I Switched My Phone For An Alarm Clock, Here’s Why You Should Too

For an entire week, I used an old-fashioned alarm clock to wake up instead of my phone. And I’m feeling much more energised than usual…

Sleep and I have a love-hate relationship. I’ve always been somewhat of a night owl so the thought of going to sleep before midnight never made much sense to me. Likewise, the thought of waking up before 10am has always bothered and irked me.

Of course, I live in the real world where I have to be at the office by 9am, so sleeping in isn’t a luxury I can indulge in daily. So, when my phone goes off in the morning, I snooze the alarm multiple times, begrudgingly get out of bed, rush to the gym, then work and am cranky until at least midday when my body and mind finally ‘wake up’.

I constantly feel tired and flat throughout most days though, so when a colleague suggested I stop using my phone’s alarm and use a good old-fashioned alarm clock instead (because it apparently improves your sleep quality), I decided to give it a go.

Not only this but I shook up my sleeping habits completely. My usual routine is I hop into bed, put the TV on and fall asleep to whatever I’m watching. I always place my phone next to me on the bedside table so the alarm can wake me up in the morning and I can easily grab it if someone tries to contact me in the middle of the night.

Before I changed this routine (if you could call it that), I sought professional help and spoke to Australia’s leading sleep expert Olivia Arezzolo – who confirmed that using an alarm clock was much more beneficial than using a phone.

“Alarm clocks – definitely [are the healthier option]! This is to prevent us [from] jumping on our phones from the moment we wake up, which is typical for many of us who use our phones as an alarm. Why this is bad is that it triggers the release of cortisol, making us feel anxious and stressed from the moment we wake.”

Olivia Arezzolo

Olivia went on to divulge that there are a few key things you can do before bed that’ll ensure you wake up in the morning feeling energised.

“If you’re struggling to get up in the morning, I recommend starting with a healthier bedtime routine the night before. Shutting off from screens at least an hour before bed and putting your phone in another room, wearing blue light-blocking glasses for at least 2 hours before bed, and having a high-quality, magnesium-based sleep supplement with cofactors for melatonin synthesis; these are simple switches that will feed into your energy levels the next morning.”

Olivia Arezzolo
Since ditching my phone, I’m much happier to get out of bed in the morning… Although, probably not quite as happy as this fellow. Image Credit: Shutterstock

And so, I went out and bought an alarm clock and set it up on my bedside table. And for the entire past week, an hour before bed I would leave my phone in the living room, turn the television off, grab a book and read (admittedly, I didn’t try blue light-blocking glasses or a sleep supplement because I didn’t want to try too much too fast).

The first night, I went to bed feeling extremely anxious that the clock wouldn’t go off and I’d get in trouble for being late to work. Then, I woke up in the middle of the night because the glow coming from the alarm clock bothered me. I groggily grabbed a t-shirt and threw it over the clock to obscure the light and went back to sleep. The next morning I felt the same way I always do: tired and not wanting to get out of bed.

But I persisted. I did make sure to cover the alarm clock’s face before going to sleep because clearly, the light disturbed me. However, I have to admit that I started to notice on day three of my little experiment that I had more energy in the morning.

Today is day seven and I feel pretty good. Both yesterday and today I didn’t hit the snooze button at all, I just jumped out of bed feeling pretty refreshed. And there’s something kind of freeing about waking up and getting ready for your day without instantly checking your phone and seeing whether there are any work emails or if your group chat went off while you were sleeping.

Will I continue with the alarm clock? I think so; at least I’ll give it another week to see if I continue to feel more energised. I may even invest in blue light-blocking glasses and a sleep supplement because Olivia sure was right about the alarm clock being superior to a phone’s alarm…

I have to admit that over this past week, I’ve still experienced a dull flatness around 3-3.30pm that can only be cured by a ten-minute break and a nice cup of tea. So hopefully, the alarm clock will continue to work its magic and this week I won’t experience what’s commonly known as three-thirtyitis… Watch this space.

But to anyone who’s sick of waking up tired and feeling constantly fatigued, I highly recommend at least trying an alarm clock and leaving your phone in another room. It’s certainly made me feel like, for the first time in my life, I might just become a morning person.

Chris Hemsworth Shares Scorching 50-Rep Dumbbell Workout Challenge
Chris Hemsworth Shares Scorching 50-Rep Dumbbell Workout Challenge

Chris Hemsworth, as we all know, loves to stay on top of his fitness and will regularly push his body to the absolute limit in the pursuit of chiselled abs and monstrous pecs. And now he’s issued a 50-rep dumbbell challenge that will almost certainly be harder than it looks.

Taking to Instagram to issue the challenge, which forms part of his Centr workout program, Chris Hemsworth can be seen on a helipad floating in the ocean (because where else would you work out?) performing 5 dumbbell exercises for 10 reps each. Chris has previously displayed his preference for using just one piece of equipment to complete a complete body workout, with this equally tough barbell workout.

Of the workout, Chris says, “Every 10 reps the exercise will change but the difficulty gets easier don’t stop until you hit 50 reps!!!” Easier? Yeah, sure mate.

WATCH: Chris Hemsworth’s 50-Rep Dumbbell Workout Challenge

The five dumbbell exercises include:

  • Dumbbell burpee curl – The burpee is often regarded as one of the best, yet one of the most hated exercises in existence. And here is Chris adding in an overhead press after every burpee. Guaranteed to have you gasping for air after you hit 10 reps, it’s a fantastic full-body burner.
  • Squat curl press – Similar to the previous exercise, the squat curl press requires you to complete a squat whilst holding the dumbbells down by your side, and after every completed squat, perform an overhead press. You know your shoulders are going to be burning after this one.
  • Alternative reverse lunge and curl – Making sure your legs don’t get off easy, Chris’ next exercise is an alternating lunge (5 on each leg), whilst holding the dumbbells down to your side followed by a bicep curl. Be sure to not rush this one. It can be all too easy to try and smash out the lunges as quickly as possible, but doing so will neglect form and overall benefit of the exercise.
  • Bicep curl – Every gym bro’s favourite move makes an appearance, finally. For this set of 10 reps, simply curl both arms at the same time, no alternating here.
  • Standing shoulder press – And finally, to really ensure you won’t be able to lift your arms for the rest of the day, Chris finishes his 50-rep workout with a standing shoulder press. Again, it’s important here to not neglect form, so ensure you brace your core as you perform each press,

With one round done, Chris says to rest for 60-seconds before doing it all over again for a total of 5 rounds. Nobody ever said getting fit was easy.

Chris’ workout has received a fair number of comments, including from fellow Marvel actor Chris Pratt, who said, “Thanks for the inspiration!! Just did it. Great quick workout. Didn’t have dumbbells so I used big rocks I found on the beach. Gods honest truth. Continuing to inspire us boss.”

Another user made a quip at Chris’ workout location, saying, “I can’t do them. I haven’t got a helicopter pad.”

If you feel like your workouts have been lacking lately, then this one from Chris is sure to get your heart rate going.

Who Needs Crypto? Chinese ‘Sh*tstock’ Spikes 13,000% In One Day
Who Needs Crypto? Chinese ‘Sh*tstock’ Spikes 13,000% In One Day

It’s undeniable that a big part of the allure of investing in cryptocurrencies (for many immature ‘investors’) is the dramatic rallies (and soul-crushing falls) of nascent coins… But why gamble on ‘shitcoins’ when ‘shitstocks’ can be just as volatile? Case in point: the unfolding Addentax Group fiasco.

According to Reuters, Addentax Group Corp. is a China-based company principally engaged in the manufacture of garments and the provision of logistic services. Not super exciting stuff.

But after the Nevada-incorporated holding company that controls the group debuted on NASDAQ on Wednesday, its shares soar as much as 13,031% in mere hours, The stock was halted more than 25 times for volatility and reached as high as US$656.54 after pricing its listing at US$5 per share, Bloomberg reports.

Then, just hours later, almost all that value was wiped out, plunging 95% and erasing more than US$19 billion in market value. Talk about a rollercoaster…

Addentax is now trading at around US$30, which is still likely way too high.

Weaving machines in one of Addentax’s factories. Surprisingly little information about the firm exists online. Image: Addentax

Addentax is just the latest in a long line of obscure Chinese businesses that have seen unbelievably volatile rises and falls on Western stock markets in recent months.

Due to the highly opaque nature of the Chinese economy – and how the Chinese state inserts itself into virtually every business in some way, shape or form – these flash-in-the-pan shitstocks are more than a little bit suspicious. They make /r/wallstreetbets look like Berkshire Hathaway.

Still, they’re a hell of a drug… And with much of the heat taken out of the crypto / NFT space as of late, investors looking for a rush have found they’re rather fun. More to come.

Tom Brady Disappeared For 11 Days. Fan Theories Are Going Into Overdrive
Tom Brady Disappeared For 11 Days. Fan Theories Are Going Into Overdrive

Tom Brady’s 11-day absence from the Buccaneers’ training camp has been described by former coach Bruce Arians as “a really good move for everybody.” But was it really, and why exactly was Brady absent? Fan theories are currently running wild. Here is a selection of the most intriguing theories.

When the legendary 45-year-old quarterback Tom Brady got back from a reported holiday in the Bahamas last week, he went straight back into the Buccaneers’ training camp, without offering much explanation to the media as to why he missed 11 days of the camp. He then got straight into action, on Saturday playing a one series against the Indianapolis Colts (in which he led the Bucaneers on an 11-play, 66-yard field goal drive).

Regarding his absence from training, he said simply: “I’ve played a lot of football in my day — a lot of practices, a lot of games, and a lot of seasons…I’m ready to go.”

“It’s all personal,” Brady said. “You know everyone’s got different situations they’re dealing with. So, we all have really unique challenges to our life. I’m 45 years old, man. There’s a lot of sh*t going on. You’ve just got to try to figure out life the best you can. It’s a continuous process.”

Brady also commented on transfer rumours, putting them to bed, more or less. He said: “I read all these different stories about all these different places I was supposed to go or could have gone. I was only going to go to one place, which was here. I think this whole organization knows that.”

Due to the dearth of official information about Brady’s absence, fans have been going a bit wild with theories of their own. On the ESPN NFL Instagram page, for instance, fans have run rampant. One popular (and very much unconfirmed) theory is that Brady took time off to get some “work done.”

“Botox for one,” one Instagram user commented. Various others chimed in with similar remarks like: “face lift, plastic surgery,” “He get lip work done?” and “his mouth, all that surgery.” Others thought Brady looked slimmer, commenting: “Why my man look so lean?”

Of course, it’s extraordinarily unlikely Brady would have gone away to get liposuction, but this is the bowels of the internet we are talking about… Speaking of which, another Instagram user said he might have gone away to get a colonoscopy. The next suggestion was a mid-life crisis or marital issues. Though this, too, is unconfirmed as all heck, it would, in this writer’s opinion, make more sense than the previous theories.

“Gisele ain’t playin,” one Instagram user wrote, with other comments coming in along a similar tune. “Bro is going through it,” one wrote. Another speculated: “Divorce incomin.” Other fans took it less seriously, ensuring others that they were just making sure the incredible athlete was still in tip top shape: “They had to make sure the clone wasn’t malfunctioning.”

“There are people in the league who’s parents are younger than Brady,” yet another said, in a testament to the quarterback’s remarkable longevity. Finally, the last wacky suggestion we saw was the theory that Brady went away to binge-watch The Masked Singer (“The Masked Singer takes up a lot of time”).

In terms of how his absence has been received, Brady continues to receive leniency from some fans, while others urged him to retire. One wrote: “So they had an off-season to prepare but you said you’re coming back so they make no moves there and now you’re leaving again.”

“Stay retired bruh,” said another. Yet another aggrieved keyboard warrior said: “Bro is to addicted to the game, he don’t know how to stop at this point.”

As for us, we’d say Brady is more than entitled to a mid-life crisis (or a cheeky extra holiday) if he’d like one (though we aren’t suggesting that’s what this was). So long as he performs on the field, we imagine he’ll win the fans back over in no time at all.
