Mouth Wash Is A Waste Of Time & Money – Here’s Why
Mouth Wash Is A Waste Of Time & Money – Here’s Why

Online nutrition coach Max Lugavere has warned his followers not to use antiseptic mouthwash. He claims it destroys bacteria in your mouth that are crucial for insulin signalling and keeping your blood pressure in check.

Longevity, nutrition, brain health and performance guru Max Lugavere has taken to social media with a warning. Lugavere, who is a New York Times best selling author (and has a background as a science journalist), says that antiseptic mouth wash is best chucked in the bin, rather than used.

He told his 502k followers: “Antiseptic mouthwash destroys oral bacteria that are essential for insulin signaling and keeping your blood pressure healthy.”

“Don’t use it! (Or at least do so infrequently).”

Max Lugavere

This was accompanied by a cheeky video in which Lugavere claims to show how to use mouth wash, before simply pouring some down the sink and throwing the rest of the bottle in the bin (see below).

Instagram user @caromeloalzua commented on the post, “As a dentist, THANK YOU.” Another Instagram user, @drsdestefanoraziano, wrote: “I agree! Just brush and floss well! And I’m a Dentist!”

Another social media user wrote: “Woah. Shit lol it’s my nightly routine!!”

Yet another said: “But my breath stinks.”

Lugavere isn’t the only one to be sceptical about mouth wash. As one Quora user wrote a number of years ago (which Forbes shared in 2018): “Any mouthwash that claims to be ‘antiseptic’ or ‘anti-bacterial’ is a bad idea.”

“Assuming it really does kill bacteria, it kills them indiscriminately. Only a few of the bacteria in your mouth are harmful (i.e., cause illness or cavities). The rest are part of the environment you are evolved to live in and form part of your body’s first line of defence against pathogens.”

“If you kill all the bacteria in your mouth, you are leaving a hole in your immunity that something else can come along and fill. There are times when this is worth it—say when disinfecting a wound, but as a part of daily hygiene, it’s not the best idea.”

The same Quora user added: “There is no medical reason for most people to use mouthwash. Most people do so because they think it will improve their breath, however, if your have bad breath that doesn’t resolve with brushing and flossing, mouthwash it like spraying perfume in a stinky bathroom—you need instead to solve the problem.”

“For many, that’s cryptic tonsils, incompletely closed wisdom tooth extraction pits, or some underlying disease or infection.”

Healthline, meanwhile, says, “mouthwash isn’t bad for you, per se.” Healthline says that mouth wash can freshen your breath and treat halitosis, reduce your risk of gum disease, reduce plaque build up to prevent cavities and make your teeth look visibly whiter.

That said, Healthline also states that mouth wash may cause or irritate canker sores, cause a dry mouth, cause burning or pain when you use it, remove your healthy oral microbiome and (again, may) be linked with increased cancer risk.

There you have it. Time to get brushing.

Is Now The Best Time Or The Worst Time In 2022 To Buy Bitcoin?
Is Now The Best Time Or The Worst Time In 2022 To Buy Bitcoin?

Bitcoin has suffered a major crash, bringing its price down to lows not seen since last year’s crypto collapse. These low prices have crypto investors wondering whether right now is a rare opportunity to pick up some Bitcoin at discount.

Cryptocurrency is notorious for its volatility. Prices of digital assets swing more wildly than any other market, meaning that crypto investors with a high risk tolerance stand to make (or lose) serious amounts of money in the blink of an eye.

Staying true to its unpredictability, the world’s largest cryptocurrency, Bitcoin (BTC), has once again surprised investors with a significant crash. Crypto investors were given some false hope on Wednesday, after Bitcoin experienced a brief rally following an announcement from the Federal Reserve. Bitcoin rallied just enough to almost touch the $40,000 ($57,012 AUD) mark, spurring hopes of a recovery.

Those hopes were quickly shattered when Bitcoin’s price immediately plummeted roughly over 10% in the following hours. Bitcoin is currently trading for $34,124 ($48,637 AUD) at the time of writing. Bitcoin hasn’t traded around these prices since the darkest depths of last year’s July downturn, where it changed hands for $29,807 ($42,484 AUD) a piece.

Bitcoin 1 Year Chart: CoinMarketCap

Now, as Bitcoin’s (BTC) price continues to plummet, there’s a single burning question that everyone seems to be asking: “Is now the best time to stock up on some seriously cheap Bitcoin?”

To answer that question, we’ve scoured the internet for the best analysts and expert opinions on whether or not buying Bitcoin is a good idea right now.

Bitcoin Looks Decidedly Unappetizing

Unfortunately for any crypto investors out there shopping for a Bitcoin bargain, it might be worth waiting a little while longer, according to the experts from Cointelegraph Markets. Crypto market analyst William Suberg predicts that the price of Bitcoin will most likely continue to drop for a while to come.

He points out that Bitcoin is currently on a warpath to close in the red for 6 consecutive weeks, something which hasn’t happened since 2014.

Even when zooming out to look at a much broader time scale Suberg said that, “Bitcoin’s chart still looks decidedly unappetizing.”

Put quite simply, Suberg and the Cointelegraph Markets team don’t think that there are any obvious factors that would drive the price of Bitcoin up again in the short term.

Buying Bitcoin Not the Worst Idea

The analysts from The Motley Fool had other ideas however and said that buying some Bitcoin right now may not be the worst idea. They concluded that if you have some extra cash lying around – providing you’ve done your own research – right now might actually be a pretty good time to buy Bitcoin.

Offering a strategy focused on Dollar Cost Averaging, analysts at Motley Fool said that continually buying small amounts of Bitcoin (even as the price drops) is a good way to make sure that you don’t miss out on the current discount. The Fool’s finance editor, Emma Newbury did advise caution, saying:

“True, buying Bitcoin at $36,000 will seem like a bargain if it eventually goes to $100,000 or even $1 million as some analysts predict. But what if it sinks to $10,000 or less?”

Conclusion

As the Federal Reserve introduces more economic tightening measures and fears of a recession grow, it’s really important to remember that prices in stocks and crypto could continue to fall.

So, if you have a strategy that involves consistently buying some Bitcoin as the price drops, then now could be a really good time to pick up some relatively cheap BTC.

Otherwise, if you have a higher risk tolerance and you want to wait to buy Bitcoin at an even cheaper price, it might be worth holding on for at least a few more days.

Fed-Up Ferrari Blacklists Justin Bieber For Automotive ‘Sins’
Fed-Up Ferrari Blacklists Justin Bieber For Automotive ‘Sins’

Justin Bieber has always had a lavish taste in automobiles – as well as a penchant for customising them. But Ferrari has had enough, banning the popstar from buying more of their vehicles.

Justin Bieber, who has a net worth of around US$285 million, loves nothing more than spending big cash on customising his cars.

Some of the 28-year-old’s exploits in car customisation have been (relatively) subtle, like wrapping his Lamborghini Urus in salmon pink. Others have been much more drastic, such as his completely re-bodied, Blade Runner-esque Rolls-Royce Wraith.

But it’s what he’s done with his 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia F1 Edition that’s drawn the ire of Ferrari, arguably the world’s most prestigious car brand. According to Italy’s Il Giornale, Bieber is the latest in a long line of celebrities to be blacklisted from buying further Ferraris from the notoriously fussy marque.

Ferrari is notoriously protective of its brand. The Prancing Horse forces prospective owners to sign lengthy and restrictive owners agreements that, among other stipulations, dictate what modifications you can make to their cars. They’re famously anal.

Bieber’s Ferrari sins are threefold. Firstly, he took his 458 to West Coast Customs (of which he is a frequent customer) to get it modified with a Liberty Walk bodykit. Secondly, he reportedly ‘lost’ the car back in 2015 after a night of heavy partying. The straw that broke the camel’s back? Bieber tried to sell the car at a charity auction without Ferrari’s permission.

“Ferrari’s rules dictate that an owner cannot sell their car in the first year and that they inform the manufacturer before selling thereafter, so that the company has the option of buying it back. Unauthorised modifications are frowned upon,” The Times explains.

Now – no soup for you! – Bieber’s been banned from buying more Ferraris.

Seems as if Ferrari has it out for Canadian musicians. Back in 2014, Ferrari famously sent popular DJ Deadmau5 a cease and desist after he got his Ferrari 458 covered in a wrap referencing the then-popular internet meme ‘Nyan Car’ and rebadging it as a ‘Purrari’.

What Spider-Man Looks Like With The ‘Gory’ Deadpool Treatment
What Spider-Man Looks Like With The ‘Gory’ Deadpool Treatment

A visual effects company has edited multiple scenes from various Spider-Man films to be as gory and graphic as Deadpool.

Whether you’re a fan of Tobey Macguire’s, Andrew Garfield’s or young Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, everyone loves the friendly neighbourhood superhero. That’s because the movies are all action-packed but wholesome.

Think about it; Peter Parker’s romance with MJ/Gwen, his relationship with Aunt May and how he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make the world a better place. It’s a very different tale to one of Marvel’s other protagonists, Deadpool.

In both the comics and the films, which star Ryan Reynolds as the titular character, Deadpool is a sarcastic, foul-mouthed anti-hero. The film is rather gory too, with copious amounts of blood shown on screen during the fight scenes and the wonderfully graphic moment Deadpool cuts off his own hand.

Of course, it’s no surprise that all of the live-action Spider-Man films were given M ratings whereas Deadpool was given an R18+ rating…

However, if you’ve ever wondered what Spider-Man would look like with the Deadpool treatment, you’re in luck. Corridor Crew, a visual effect company, has taken iconic moments from the Spider-Man trilogy, the Amazing Spider-Man films and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Spider-Man films and has edited them into scenes well worth an R18+ rating.

For instance, the scene from Spider-Man 2 where Macguire’s Spider-Man stops a train from crashing has been edited to show his arms ripping and breaking off. Corridor Crew’s edits have been going viral, especially on Twitter, because it’s seriously impressive how realistic the edits look.

You can watch all of the edits, as well as the team at Corridor Crew, discuss both why they decided to make these edits – spoiler: it has to do with the multiverse – and how they achieved these awesome effects below, but be warned some of the edits are extremely graphic and may ruin Spider-Man for you…

Rolex’s ‘Game-Changing’ GMT Master II Now Selling For Over $100,000
Rolex’s ‘Game-Changing’ GMT Master II Now Selling For Over $100,000

When Rolex unveiled a radical new version of their popular GMT-Master II at Watches & Wonders earlier this year, it took the watch world by storm. Months later, we’ve finally seen the first examples hit the aftermarket – for some truly ridiculous prices.

The new ref. 126720VTNR – which has a number of competing nicknames, including ‘Destro’, ‘Starbucks’ and most popularly, ‘Sprite’ – is the most out-there watch the typically conservative Swiss brand has released in recent memory. In addition to its unique bezel colour combination of green and black, it’s a right-handed watch: that is, it’s designed to be worn by left-handed people. Not only is its crown on the left, but its date window is too (which is weird even by right-handed watch standards).

Naturally, watch fans have gone completely gaga for this oddball Rolex. The GMT-Master II is already one of the most popular and distinctive watches on the planet but the Sprite is even more eye-catching thanks to its right-handed layout and pleasing colour combo.

It was only a matter of time before we started seeing them hit the aftermarket for prices well above retail, but we’re still pretty shocked at just how high the prices are.

Currently, there are 5 Rolex Sprites selling on Chrono24, with the cheapest listed for AU$91,560 (almost 6x the retail price of AU$15,500) and the most expensive going for a whopping AU$122,717 (almost 8x the retail price).

We’re used to Rolexes going for stupid figures on the aftermarket but this really takes the cake. Six figures for a steel Rolex? That’s officially the highest ever percentage increase for a sports model in steel. But for Italian watch market expert @watchanalytics, it’s hardly surprising.

“In the last [few] years, the phenomenon of first appearances on the secondary market of watches at prices that triple, if not more than, their retail prices has [been the domain of] almost exclusively Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet… For Rolex, this process is only now beginning to manifest itself,” they explain.

“And why? The main reason is the lack of presentation of great novelties, above all in the more ‘accessible’ bands and excluding out-of-catalogue items.”

“The Oyster Perpetual had a similar impact, giving an important signal of how even an entry-level model, going outside the box, could become so sought after on the market,” they continue.

It’s worth pointing out that these are just the first offer prices, and we’d be very surprised if they actually sell for such inflated figures. As more Sprites hit the aftermarket, prices will come down and stabilise, giving us a better idea of what these watches are actually ‘worth’.

Still, it’s a clear indication that the Rolex Sprite is one popular beast.

Who Is Francis Bourgeois? The British Trainspotting TikTok Star
Who Is Francis Bourgeois? The British Trainspotting TikTok Star

The global COVID-19 pandemic forced many of us to either take up new hobbies, or start uploading videos to social media to relieve our boredom, but Francis Bourgeois is one social media personality who stands out beyond many others.

But, who is Francis Bourgeois and how did he become famous? We plan to answer both these questions and more below.

Francis Bourgeois Quick Facts

Name: Luke Nicholson (social media name: Francis Bourgeois)
Age: 21
DoB: July 8th 2000
Nationality: British
Height: 6ft 3in
Net Worth: $20,000 (Estimated)
Instagram: @francis_bourgeois43 – 1.6m followers
TikTok: @francis.bourgeois – 2.5m followers

Who Is Francis Bourgeois?

Francis Bourgeois is actually the social media moniker of Luke Nicholson, a 21-year-old student who was born in Harlseden, West London on July 8th, 2000. Francis Bourgeois became popular during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, not only in his native United Kingdom but around the world, for his series of videos posted to TikTok showing him transporting.

His enthusiasm towards trains (and subtle sense of humour) has earned him legions of fans, as well as various sponsorship deals.

This enthusiasm has been with him since he started trainspotting at an early age, but he quickly became bullied and teased for his hobby. Francis moved to Frome, Somerset when he was 7 years old and upon enrolling in secondary school, he hid his passion for trains to fit in with his peers. He admits in a TikTok video that he sold his model train set to help fund a gym membership, and he even chose to style his hair with hair gel.

He is currently enrolled at the University of Nottingham, where he is studying Engineering.

And, unfortunately for you ladies, Francis Bourgeois has a girlfriend. He is currently dating Amy Linkin, who is also a student. Not much else is known about Amy, but she occasionally features in Francis’ videos.

In his later years, Francis decided to reconnect with his love for trains and trainspotting, and set up his social media account to document the trains he sees. It isn’t clear why he chose the stage name of Francis Bourgeois instead of his actual name of Luke Nicholson. The ‘real’ Francis Bourgeois was a  landscape painter and court painter to King George III of the United Kingdom, who lived between 1753 and 1811.

Francis Bourgeois TikTok

It was through the video-sharing platform TikTok that Francis Bourgeois found his fame. To date, Francis’ videos have clocked up over 47 million likes and earned him over 2.5 million followers. The majority of Francis’ TikTok videos follow a similar formula: he introduces a train that he expects to go past him and we get a point of view close up of Francis’ face lighting up with excitement thanks to a GoPro camera he has strapped to his head.

Thanks to his videos and his fame on social media, he has received gifts and produced sponsored content with the likes of popstar Joe Jonas (with whom he has gone trainspotting with), Spanish singer Rosalía, French football legend Thierry Henry and stream service Spotify. Sustainable sunglass brand Coral Eyewear even invited him as a guest to the recent Formula One race in Miami, Florida, where he hung out with F1 drivers Alex Albon and Lance Norris.

Francis Bourgeois Model Career

In January 2022, Francis Bourgeois was cast in an advert for Italian fashion house Gucci and its collaboration with The North Face. Francis plays a train conductor in the advert and checks people’s tickets on a train. The collaboration and announcement of Francis being cast were shared exclusively by Highsnobiety.

Influencer Allegedly Facing Pornography Charges Over Tree Hugging Photoshoot In Bali
Influencer Allegedly Facing Pornography Charges Over Tree Hugging Photoshoot In Bali

A Russian yoga aficionado may face jail time and a huge fine after posing naked next to a 700-year-old tree in Bali. A Bali local saw the images online and reported them to authorities. The influencer has turned herself in and apologised.

A Russian Instagram influencer, who has 18k followers at the time of writing, is in hot water for a photo she took next to a sacred tree in Bali.

Her profile is now on private, and she has deleted the offending image. She has also published an apology, having returned to the tree after a local complained, and apologised, this time fully clothed.

She also reportedly turned herself in to police. As she told followers: “I just prayed under a tree and went straight to the police station to explain this incident and apologise.”

Local resident and entrepreneur Niluh Djelantik saw the image and reported it to the authorities.

Mr Djelantik said the tree is old and sacred and is known as Kayu Putih (a weeping paperbark). It is reportedly located at the Babakan Temple in Tabanan.

Some reports claim the influencer could be charged with spreading pornography (Bali has a strict Information and Electronic Transactions Act).

AdelaideNow reports that, if convicted of spreading pornography, the influencer could face up to six years in prison or a fine of IDR 1 billion (AU $97,108).

On Instagram, the influencer said: “I appeal to all my friends and all my guests of Bali. I unknowingly made a big mistake for which I regret and I want to tell you so that you don’t repeat it.”

“I apologise to all Balinese and Indonesian people, I regret my actions.”

She went on: “I’m so embarrassed, I didn’t mean to offend you in any way.”

At the time of writing, Tabanan Police spokesperson Ranefli Dian Candra had not revealed what punishment, if any, the yoga enthusiast will face.

According to The Bali Sun, local reports indicate that “the case is being handled with amicability and fairness” and that the influencer “has committed to pay for any costs incurred in performing a full cleansing ritual at the temple and the tree itself.”

The Bali Sun adds: “Following her time at the police station, she and her husband joined the temple’s priest to pray at the tree and apologize for her actions.”

“It seems that this willingness to make amends is going a long way in ensuring that the criminal investigation does not escalate further,” (The Bali Sun).

Update: The ABC reports that the influencer, and her husband, “will be deported and barred from entering Indonesia for six months.”

According to the ABC, “Despite the apology, Bali’s Governor, Wayan Koster, personally ordered her deportation, saying in a statement it was ‘far important to preserve the culture and respect the dignity of Bali’ than tolerate such behaviour for tourist dollars.”

RELATED: ‘Stop Deifying Foreign Tourists’ Bali Urged To Make Big Change

This is not the first time tourists have come under scrutiny for their behaviour in Bali. A Canadian man got in trouble for dancing naked at the top of a mountain recently and two Youtubers faced deportation after a ‘cheeky’ stunt went wrong last year.

Formula 1’s Miami Grand Prix Is The Fakest Race On Earth – & We Love It
Formula 1’s Miami Grand Prix Is The Fakest Race On Earth – & We Love It

We’re currently in the midst of the very first Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix – the 13th unique Formula 1 Grand Prix to be held in the US of A. Miami’s addition to the F1 calendar is a potent symbol of the sport’s current boom in popularity, especially in the US and largely thanks to the success of Netflix’s Drive To Survive.

Qualifying wrapped up yesterday and so far, the Miami International Autodrome has produced some very exciting racing. But most people haven’t been talking about the racing. Oh no. They’ve been talking about the track’s bizarre fake marina.

In the middle of the track on the inside of turns 6, 7 and 8, there’s a collection of 10 yachts that appear to be floating on some sort of mini lake. But the ‘marina’ doesn’t have any actual water, unlike other tracks like Abu Dhabi or Monaco. Instead, the yachts are surrounded by concrete with a vinyl water graphic on top.

Naturally, fans have had a field day clowning this ridiculous fake marina online. What’s the point of a yacht club that you can’t sail in and out of?

In some ways, the fake marina is emblematic of the ‘plastic’ nature of the Miami Grand Prix. While it’s good to see F1 starting to catch on in America, many of these fans who’ve been lured in by Drive To Survive are considered ‘plastic fans’ by F1 purists.

RELATED: Max Verstappen Calls Bulls**t On Drive To Survive’s ‘Fake Rivalries’

But for Miami Grand Prix managing partner Tom Garfinkel (who’s also the vice chairman and CEO of the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium, around which the race takes place), the fans making fun of the marina is only a good thing.

“I think we don’t take ourselves too seriously,” he tells Autosport. “We’re having some fun with it, right?… I think the people on the back of those yachts watching the race will have fun, and I think the people that are sort of poking fun at it, I think it’s funny, and it’s great.”

Autosport also points out that the fake marina yachts aren’t just some tacky trackside furniture: they’re a focal point for a whole entertainment precinct along with a fake beach with deck chairs, games and loungers.

Of course, any new entry to the F1 calendar was always going to face some pretty intense scrutiny. The same thing happened with the inaugural Saudi Arabian Grand Prix last year – although that was for a very different set of reasons…

RELATED: Lewis Hamilton’s Opinion On Racing In Saudi Arabia Sparks Debate

The race kicks off in just a few hours, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz P1 and P2 for the start. That’s rather fitting, actually: Miami has one of the highest concentrations of Ferrari owners in the world, so it’s kind of a home race for Ferrari.

Lights out, and away we go…
