Idris Elba’s $200,000 Gold Gucci Watch Is The Talk Of The Town
Idris Elba’s $200,000 Gold Gucci Watch Is The Talk Of The Town

Idris Elba turns heads wherever he goes. He’s a renaissance man: an actor and producer; DJ and singer; kickboxer, a bloody OBE and most importantly, an incredibly stylish gent. But his latest outfit might be his biggest flex yet.

In his hometown of London for a special screening of his latest film, the survival thriller Beast, the 50-year-old leading man looked exceptionally dapper rocking a full Gucci fit (he’s been wearing a lot of Gucci lately) with a cool tie-concealing top that’s evocative of military uniforms.

But it’s what was on his wrist that got us excited: a Gucci 25H Tourbillon (ref. YA163307) from Gucci’s High Watchmaking collection worth a solid 132,000 CHF (~135,000 USD / 200,000 AUD).

It’s a remarkable piece that’s emblematic of how far Gucci’s watchmaking efforts have come in recent years – as well as how Idris Elba is firmly one of the most important men’s style icons of the day.

Images: Getty / GPHG

Ultra-thin at only 8mm thick (that’s about half as thick as an IWC Schaffhausen Big Pilot’s Watch, for reference), it’s powered by an in-house calibre, the Gucci GG727.25, which was developed and produced by the state-of-the-art Kering movement manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.

Despite its slim dimensions and a power-hungry tourbillon, it still boasts a 60-hour power reserve – and it’s not even a manual watch, it’s an automatic! It’s housed in a luxurious 18ct yellow gold case and comes on a matching integrated bracelet.

This isn’t the only Gucci 25H watch Idris has worn lately, actually. He also wore a stainless steel time-only number as well as an extremely extra skeletonised tourbillon variant on an alligator leather strap during the 75th Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

We prefer this 25H Tourbillon, though. It strikes the perfect balance between opulence and wearability… Well, as wearable as a $200,000 Gucci watch can possibly be.

How To Make Your Mates Comfortable Sharing Their Feelings With You
How To Make Your Mates Comfortable Sharing Their Feelings With You

We all know someone who could use a good chat. But how do you ask a friend if they’re ‘rightin a way that will go beyond a “yeah, yeah, all good mate?” Clinical psychologist Lars Madsen says the key is to lead with vulnerability.

With R U Ok? Day upon us, a lot of men are wanting to let their mates know that they are there for them. The problem? Not many guys know how to respond to being asked, “R U Ok?” In fact, for many guys, your mate laughing off the question might come as a relief. But there’s a way to cut through, and give someone stoic the opportunity to share what’s bothering them: sharing your own vulnerabilities.

As Dr Lars Madsen, a clinical psychologist at The Forensic Clinical Psychology Centre, told DMARGE, a lot of men have difficulties being able to communicate their vulnerabilities.

“There’s a socio-cultural experience to that, I think. Men growing up weren’t given the same opportunities that little girls might get in terms of being able to talk about feelings [or] explaining and being listened to [when talking about their vulnerabilities], so part of the population hasn’t been given the guidance skills or nurturing, in many cases, to be able to talk about things that make them feel uncomfortable and vulnerable.”

Image: Getty

“With regards to relationships men have with other men, we can get into habits where we become very jokey and we become very avoidant about talking about vulnerability, weakness, uncertainty and doubt and that’s done in a fun loving and jokey kind of way.”

“But workplaces, football teams, contexts like that can often develop a culture of ‘that’s how we communicate with each other; the only way we can communicate with each other is when we’re taking the piss, making fun out of one another; gently ribbing someone for something and that’s our way of showing that we care, they’re our friend and we’re all on the same page.’ But that doesn’t allow us to really change tact with regards to talking about stuff that might be on our mind.”

“Having an acceptance of these sort of dynamics can almost happen unconsciously.”

Dr Lars Madsen

Lars told DMARGE that initiatives like R U Ok? Day are great in principle, but fall flat in many people’s eyes because they feel superficial (or limited in what they can achieve among an audience that lack the internal architecture to work out if they are, indeed, ok, and what to do about it if they are not).

“I think people go: ‘yeah, yeah, sure – all good mate,’ but the key we have to talk about and what changes all of that is leading with vulnerability,” Lars said. So rather than putting the question straight to your friend, according to Lars, you might have more chance of crossing the bridge into real talk territory by kicking things off yourself.

Image: Getty

“Leading with your own struggles changes the dynamic completely,” Lars told DMARGE, encouraging guys to ask their mates how they are doing in a sensible situation and under appropriate circumstances (“in the middle of ordering a round of pints in the middle of a bunch of lads from the football team,” Lars said, “is probably not the ideal time to do it”).

But in a quiet, sensitive and thoughtful moment, Lars said, “being able to lead if you want to talk about meaningful sh*t” will help you check in with a mate in more of a real sense.

“If you’re worried about them, leading with vulnerability changes the dynamic, it changes it insofar as it suddenly means it’s ok – it’s like they suddenly don’t feel alone – they feel like you’ve made yourself vulnerable before you’re expecting them to do it, and that’s one of the key things that I think would actually be a very, very powerful thing.”

“If you’re concerned about someone, lead with your own vulnerability and check in with them.”

Dr Lars Madsen

Lars said whenever you are concerned about one of your friends, whether that’s due to a change in their lifestyle (whether that’s a break-up, going from living with friends to on their own, a change in their employment status) or just a hunch, it’s always a good idea to regularly check in with each other.

“Sometimes for someone like that, it can be pretty lonely to be on your own all the time, struggle with stuff, no one there to talk to,” Lars said.

Image: Getty

“I think what R U Ok? is trying to do is to make us a little more sensitive to each other’s emotional experiences, rather than just assume things are ok, but actually start to develop into our language a way of bringing that kind of stuff up and asking that kind of question in a serious way. R U Ok? Day has merit because of that.”

“For me as a psychotherapist who works primarily with men, one of the challenging things men often face is not having the inner architecture and scaffolding to be able to make sense of their inner world. That means even when they come and pay me $250 an hour to talk about their feelings because they know something is wrong, they can sit there for the hour and struggle to even figure out what it is that they are feeling because they are so disconnected or detached from it – but they know that something is not quite right.”

“One of the things men struggle with is having emotional literacy of themselves,” Lars told us. “Many men can find it hard to tell whether they are anxious, angry, or depressed.” According to Lars, a lot of things like anger, rage or anxiety – which we do recognise – come from feelings of vulnerability, upset and stress – that we often don’t recognise.

“They don’t happen in a vacuum. Being able to improve your emotional literacy around those things is really key for a lot of men to be able to start to recognise, well, ‘actually I’m not feeling angry, I’m actually feeling anxious and it’s coming out as anger because it feels easier to be angry.'”

RELATED: I Solved My Quarter-Life Crisis With A Skateboard

Other than helping each other feel less alone by sharing our own struggles with each other, Lars told DMARGE that learning how to be more emotionally literate is like playing football, tennis or golf (“you go along and you give it a go”). It’s all about giving it a go, and then being persistent (and maybe getting training if you want to hasten the process).

“You’ve got to start asking yourself the questions: got to start having a go. Most people can tune into the fact that things aren’t right one way or another (you feel a bit down, you feel not right), but it starts through a process of exploration; of opening up to the idea of starting to use words and terms – and start to think about those things rather than pushing it away and blocking it out.”

AFL Star Christian Petracca Teams Up With Kennedy To Showcase The World’s Best Watches
AFL Star Christian Petracca Teams Up With Kennedy To Showcase The World’s Best Watches

The following article was produced in partnership with Kennedy.

Christian Petracca is a star on the rise. The 26-year-old is quickly carving out a name for himself as one of the most dynamic and engaging football players in Australia.

Not only was he instrumental in securing the Melbourne Football Club’s first AFL Premiership in 57 years – for which he was unanimously judged as best on the ground, winning the Demon’s first-ever Norm Smith Medal for himself in the process – but he’s a bit of a renaissance man.

‘Trac’ is also a keen sneakerhead, a dedicated watch aficionado, a talented basketballer (he used to play with Ben Simmons and actually made the Australian under-17 basketball squad back in the day alongside Dante Exum) as well as a dab hand in the kitchen – with his cooking videos racking up millions of views on TikTok.

No wonder, then, that leading Australian luxury watch and jewellery retailer Kennedy has selected Christian to be their latest brand ambassador, working with the footy star on a unique photo shoot series exploring some of the most interesting watches on the market today.

“Despite his success, he is down-to-earth and approachable which makes him perfectly aligned to the Kennedy brand and values. The Kennedy team look forward to working with Christian and watching his continued success both on and off the field.”

Christian says his lifelong love of watches made saying yes to the partnership easy.

“I’m excited to partner with Kennedy. I really enjoyed doing the photo shoot and having the opportunity to learn more about the watches –the craftsmanship and story behind each piece is fascinating. It was also a nice change of pace from the footy field,” he jokes.

“A classic watch is timeless, and it’s something you can keep forever,” Christian explains.

“In some ways it is similar to being a professional athlete in that you can see the outcome of years of dedication and hard work, and the importance of paying attention to every little detail.”

“When I’m not training and playing, I like to swap my footy kit for something a bit more dressed up and there’s no better accessory than a luxury watch. This year it will be something to show off on the red carpet at the Brownlow,” Trac says.

Thankfully, Kennedy has an extensive portfolio of stylish luxury watches to choose from.

As one of the most high profile, professional and talented players in the AFL, Christian was an obvious choice for Kennedy

Aaron Faraguna, Kennedy Australia CEO

If we’re talking about the red carpet, it’s hard to look past the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Classic, one of the most iconic watches of all time. Highly versatile and always stylish, it’s the perfect watch for a dynamic gent like Christian Petracca.

Originally intended as a sports watch – its signature rotating case was designed to protect the watch from the rough and tumble of a polo match – these days the Reverso is prized as a dress watch, too, thanks to its elegant Art Deco aesthetic.

This model’s small seconds counter adds additional functionality, while its luxurious Casa Fagliano leather strap is both exceptionally comfortable and exceptionally good-looking.

Christian’s an absolute gun on the footy field, which is probably why the IWC Schaffhausen Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN suits him so well. Named in honour of the United States Navy’s Fighter Weapons School – better known as TOPGUN – this technical tool watch is perfect for high flyers.

Boasting a ‘Jet Black’ ceramic case, titanium hardware, an ultra-legible dial, a soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields and a day-date display, this watch is one mean operator.

Designed for the toughest of conditions, its sapphire crystal is especially secured against displacement by drops in air pressure and features an anti-reflective coating on both sides of the crystal – ideal for fighter pilots (or footy players) who’ve got no time to waste adjusting their watch.

AU$13,800

More technical still is the IWC Schaffhausen Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar TOP GUN Edition “Mojave Desert”, This mechanical marvel of a watch that’s a favourite of other top athletes like Tom Brady and Lewis Hamilton – no wonder Petracca’s a fan.

This hefty timepiece features a full perpetual calendar with displays for the date, day and month; the year in four digits; a perpetual moon phase for both the northern and southern hemisphere; and even a power reserve indicator and small hacking seconds integrated into the 3 and 9 o’clock subdials respectively. The calendar, if running continuously, won’t require a correction until the year 2100. Mad.

The scratch-resistant, sand-coloured ceramic case; tough textile and rubber strap; seven-day power reserve and anti-reflective sapphire crystal further mark the watch out as not just a fine example of haute horlogerie but a real tough cookie.

For a more refined look, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Calendar is a classically handsome, sophisticated timepiece that takes its inspiration from the classic designs of the golden age of watchmaking in the 1950s.

It combines a jumping date function – which flies between the 15th and 16th day of the month – with a moonphase indicator, elegantly incorporated into a small seconds counter. It’s a highly elevated piece that perfectly straddles the line between traditional and casual.

Top Aussie rules players like Christian Petracca spend thousands of hours training and refining their skills, and Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Master Control watches are just the same. JLC put each of their watches through a strict “1,000 Hour Control” program which far exceeds official chronometry tests.

Christian’s favourite piece? The new Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro eSteel . “It’s functional and versatile. You can wear and match it with different outfits. I also love the colour and signature crown guard,” he shares.

Not only does the watch look great, but it’s also great for the planet. 72g of each Submersible QuarantaQuattro eSteel is made of recycled materials, which corresponds to 52% of the total weight of the watch. This comes from a combination of Panerai’s eSteel alloy, a proprietary stainless steel alloy that incorporates recycled materials, as well as its recycled PET fabric strap.

It also boasts an attractive dégradé dial that gets darker towards the bottom, a reference to how light gets more scarce the deeper you dive, as well as a high-gloss polished ceramic bezel – a first for Panerai.

Watch Nick Kyrgios Explode After Losing US Open Quarter Final
Watch Nick Kyrgios Explode After Losing US Open Quarter Final

Nick Kyrgios has done some panel beating of the US Open arena, hammering not just one but two racquets into the ground, after shaking his opponent Karen Khachanov and the umpires’ hands. He then slung his bag over his shoulder and walked off.

Call it petulant, call it poor form; mercurial Australian tennis superstar Nick Kyrgios left no doubt in anyone’s minds this tournament that he seriously cares about winning. And though his post match racquet smashing was a bit immature, we reckon it’s a good sign – one that he really, truly wants it.

If you enjoy a bit of vicarious living, check out the video of Kyrgios destroying two racquets in the video below. In the comments on Twitter, people made such remarks about Kyrgios as “I love the passion” and “I’m embarrassed 95% of you were pulling for this petulant man-child.”

Another Tweet about Kyrgios included: “This guy is the best lol. He knows everyone is watching and doesn’t give a damn what ppl think.”

“Blokes an embarrassment. Probably somehow the fault of his player box,” another said.

Others, however, said they have become ‘team Kyrgios’ in recent times, after prematurely judging him before. One wrote: “Nah bro he might be fun to watch but for a lot of people they watch not for tennis but to laugh at him. Every game deserves respect and his attitude of me me me [sic] will keep him from ever being a real serious contender. His histrionics are his downfall and it shows every time.”

I guess it all, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic has shown us on numerous occasions, comes down to winning. Your results speak for themselves, and people don’t mind a few histrionics so long as you can put your money where your mouth is, which Kyrgios has increasingly been doing in recent times (he has been going deeper and deeper, more and more consistently, into grand slams).

Hooters Under Fire For Sponsoring An U10 Boys Soccer Team
Hooters Under Fire For Sponsoring An U10 Boys Soccer Team

The UK’s only branch of Hooters, Hooters Nottingham, has been criticised for sponsoring an U10 boys soccer team.

Hooters, the US-based restaurant chain famous for its hot wings, cold beer and scantily clad waitresses, has come under fire for sponsoring a boys soccer team.

Hooters Nottingham was revealed to be sponsoring local soccer side Burton Joyce U10s on Twitter. Many of The (Twitter) Mob were not impressed. Some took issue with what they see as Hooters’ degrading treatment of its staff, while others said the photos of Hooters’ waitresses posing with the young boys was “creepy” and “wrong.”

The photos posted online were captioned: “Hooters Nottingham are proud to be the new sponsors of Burton Joyce U10s. We wish you all the luck this season, boys. Go smash it.”

Left: Hooters Nottingham employees pose with local football team. Right: Burton Joyce Football Club says they have taken the FA’s advice and removed the shirts.

In the wake of the post, one Twitter user asked: “Why are Hooters sexualising kids?” Another said: “Could’ve gone [with a] more appropriate age range.”

Not that everyone was so upset though. One person tweeted: “What’s wrong with them sponsoring the team? On the grand scheme of things Hooters is no big deal.”

Another joked: “I’m guessing ALL the dads showed up for this match.”

Nottinghamshire FA, the local soccer authority, recently made the following statement, explaining they were not aware of, and do not condone, the deal: “The County FA had not been approached by the club seeking sanction for the sponsorship and had we have been, the request would have been declined in accordance with FA rules appertaining to the Kit and Advertising Regulations.”

“From being made aware of the sponsorship we have been working with the club to reinforce their understanding of the regulations surrounding such sponsorship.”

Nottinghamshire FA

Burton Joyce Football Club took to Facebook today with the following statement, explaining that: “Having taken advice from the FA, Burton Joyce Football Club can confirm that the shirts in question have been removed and will not be used in the future.”

This isn’t the first football sponsorship to raise eyebrows (or inspire mirth) over the years. According to Football Ramble, Spanish team Getafe got sponsored by Burger King back in the day, with the shirt featuring an awful headshot on the reverse of the shirt goalscorers to wear as a mask when celebrating a goal.

Greek side Voukefalas were also reportedly sponsored by a brothel from the city of Larissa in 2012. According to Football Ramble the club’s president said the deal was struck for purely economic reasons, however (per Football Ramble) “allegations from away fans that they couldn’t score in a brothel remain unproven.”

Daniel Ricciardo’s Form May Return In Italy, Thanks To This ‘Winning Recipe’
Daniel Ricciardo’s Form May Return In Italy, Thanks To This ‘Winning Recipe’

Daniel Ricciardo has had a shocker of a year… But the beleaguered Formula 1 driver is confident that a return to form is on the cards ahead of the 2022 Italian Grand Prix thanks to the rejuvenating power of Italian cuisine.

Speaking to the media ahead of the race, the eight-time Formula 1 Grand Prix winner said “I’d love to say it would be fine for a podium but I think we know the truth at the moment [about] where we are. But one thing guaranteed is the pizza. That’s good.”

“I don’t know where I’ll finish on Sunday. But I know the pizza will be delicious. That’s what I’ve been missing. Maybe that’s the winning recipe.”

Daniel Ricciardo

Obviously, Danny Ric’s just trying to put a nice spin on things, but there’s at least some cause for his optimism.

Despite otherwise struggling with his new car and team at McLaren, ‘The Honey Badger’ actually won the 2021 Italian Grand Prix at Monza last year: his first win since the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix and McLaren’s first win since the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix.

Daniel Ricciardo stands victorious at parc ferme after winning the 2021 Italian Grand Prix. Teammate Lando Norris also cinched 2nd. Image: The Race

The win was an enormous vindication for Ricciardo at the time – but it hasn’t stopped McLaren from ending his contract early, with the 33-year-old set to leave the team at the end of the 2022 season to make way for 21-year-old wunderkind Oscar Piastri.

RELATED: It’s Confirmed: Oscar Piastri Will Race For McLaren In 2023

Still, Ricciardo recovered from a slump in form last year to win big in Monza – he could do it again! Especially if he’s fuelled by pizza…

Ricciardo is a notoriously huge fan of pizza, with the Italian-Australian driver having frequently Tweeted about his love of the dish over the years. He even did a cheeky little pizza-making class last year at Monza for the cameras – a classic little press activity F1 teams make their drivers do every time they race in Italy.

The latest talk in the F1 paddock is that Ricciardo might take a year off from the sport in 2023 and return in 2024 rather than try and find a seat at another team. This was already one of the most likely scenarios mooted for the under-fire driver, but speculation fired up that this indeed is the route he’s taking after the Dutch Grand Prix.

Ricciardo was caught with the hot mic chatting with Red Bull’s Sergio Pérez where he said something to the effect of “I’ll take a year off, then come back in 2024.”

Ricciardo might have just been suggesting to Pérez that this was just one of a few options he’s considering, so who knows? Hopefully he doesn’t just spend a year off eating pizza, though – hit the gym, get fighting fit, and get back to form for 2024, we say.

Speaking of, check out Daniel Ricciardo’s workout regime below.

Travellers Snub Ibiza, Opt For ‘Wilder’ Alternative
Travellers Snub Ibiza, Opt For ‘Wilder’ Alternative

Every party-loving traveller knows Ibiza. But did you know there is a cooler – wilder – alternative right next to it? Introducing: Formentera. The place you go when you’ve smelt the roses, and want something a little more laid back.

Did you know, next to Ibiza, there’s an island with salt pans and red earth, where crucible-like heat makes the horizon shimmer? A place where you can escape the industrial-scale nightclubs and backpacker gossip? A place you can chill out, but still party if you want? Introducing: Formentera.

Formentera is the smallest of the Balaeric Islands and is located about three nautical miles south of Ibiza in the Mediterranean. Formentera is often referred to as Ibiza’s “little sister.” Formentera is not far from Ibiza either, it’s a mere 30-minute boat journey from the iconic party isle.

Photo Credit: @visitformentera/@giulia_telia. Image via Instagram

Because Ibiza is so famous, and because Formentera is a little harsher, and harder to visit, Formentera is often overlooked by tourists. This means if you are after a quieter, wilder version of Ibiza to squirt sunscreen and sip cocktails on, then Formentera could be for you.

The first big difference between Ibiza and Formentera is the size. While Ibiza is 572.6 km², Formentera is only 83.24 km². This makes Ibiza about 7 times bigger. Ibiza is also more built up, offering much more by the way of partying, clubs and accommodation. If you don’t have long to spend in the Balaeric Islands, you’d probably want to go to Ibiza (Ibiza has some nice beaches and nature to enjoy too).

Formentera is located about 3 nautical miles south of Ibiza. Image via Google Maps

But if you’ve been to Ibiza before, and want a taste of something different – and something a bit more natural – Formentera could be for you. In Formentera, rather than world-renowned DJs, industrial-scale clubbing and glamourous cocktail bars, it’s more beach clubs wedged behind sand dunes and wandering around untamed corners and coves. There’s even a bar where, apparently, it’s still 1973.

WATCH: What It’s Like Holidaying On Formentera

Don’t believe us? Check out the above Formentera videos by social media users morethanibiza, ibizadazeofficial and ohanamyeverything and take a look for yourself.

Formentera is home to Playa de Ses Illetes – one of the most beautiful beaches in the world – and islands of its own like S’Espalmador, which one TripAdvisor user summed up quite nicely when they said: “Great beaches, white sand, shallow water, no shade, no restaurants, kind of Robinson tourism. You have to see it.”

As for Formentera’s landscape, think: white sand, red earth, salt pans, tall plateaus, Bronze Age settlements; sea birds unfattened by hot chips. It’s also a bit of a foodie hotspot now, and I simply can’t get past the description offered by Maya Boyd who recently compared it to Ibiza as follows: “If Ibiza is juicy, abundant, and Technicolor, Formentera is bleached out and desaturated, the island equivalent of a Super 8 film.”

It’s also, if Instagram is anything to go by, a popular place to propose (perhaps because its laid-back atmosphere makes it more romantic than Ibiza).

Instagram users living their best life in Cala Saona, Formentera. Images via Instagram

There are also plenty of water sports (sailing, diving, snorkelling). Other than that, Formentera’s main attractions are sunbathing, partying and exploring. It appears to be picking up steam (and interest) from social media savvy tourists, too, with many of Formentera’s popular spots being tagged time and time again in travellers’ pictures.

Maybe it’s time to make the pilgrimage?

Nicholas Hoult Goes For Gold At The Venice Film Festival With Fancy New Watch
Nicholas Hoult Goes For Gold At The Venice Film Festival With Fancy New Watch

A nice watch is an indispensable part of any stylish man’s wardrobe, especially on the red carpet… And Nicholas Hoult knows this better than most, rocking a dapper gold watch at the Venice Film Festival.

The 32-year-old English actor, who has just been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series at the Emmys for his role as Peter III in The Great, is now in Italy for another awards show, the 79th Venice International Film Festival.

On the red carpet for his latest film, the bloody and strange romantic horror film Bones & All, Hoult went the opposite route to his co-star Timothée Chalamet when it comes to style: where Chalamet went colourful and outrageous, Hoult went subtle and understated.

Or, well, as understated as a completely white tuxedo and a rose gold Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso can possibly be, at least.

Images: Getty / Jaeger-LeCoultre

Arguably one of the best watches to wear to a red carpet ‘do and inarguably one of the most iconic watches of all time, a Reverso is always a stylish choice. No need to wear a complicated outfit when you’ve got one of these bad boys on your wrist!

Originally intended as a sports watch – its signature rotating case was designed to protect the watch from the rough and tumble of a polo match – these days the Reverso is prized as a dress watch, too, thanks to its elegant Art Deco aesthetic.

RELATED: Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Reverso Is A Must-Have In Every Man’s Wardrobe

Hoult’s Reverso is a manual-winding large rose gold model with two time-telling faces: a silvered grey dial with a small seconds counter on one side, and a black dial with a 24-hour indicator on the other. This means you can tell the time in two time zones at once without having to fuss around with a GMT hand or function. Impressive.

Hoult is set to star in two horror-comedy films currently in production: The Menu, alongside Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Fiennes; and Renfield, alongside Nicolas Cage and Awkwafina.

He’s also lending his voice talents to the upcoming Garfield CGI reboot. There might not be a Venice red carpet screening for that one, though…

Chris Pine Claps Back At Harry Styles ‘Spitgate’ Rumours
Chris Pine Claps Back At Harry Styles ‘Spitgate’ Rumours

Chris Pine’s representative has doused the ‘spitgate’ rumours with cold water, responding to the allegation that his client was spat on by Harry Styles in the negative.

All hell broke loose on Monday, when British pop star Harry Styles appeared to have spat on 42 year old actor Chris Pine, as he sat next to him at the Don’t Worry Darling premiere during the Venice Film Festival.

The pair were there to celebrate their latest project Don’t Worry Darling, which is a psychological thriller directed by Olivia Wilde (who Styles is currently dating).

WATCH: Harry Styles (Seemingly) Spits On Chris Pine

The so-called spitting incident, or ‘spitgate’ as it has now been dubbed, inspired many people to through footage of the pair being interviewed earlier in the week, in which Chris Pine appeared to be paying very little attention to Harry Styles’ remarks about the film – a moment that had Twitter speculating there could be beef between the pair.

Now, however, Chris Pine’s agent has responded to the furore, telling People: “This is a ridiculous story – a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation.”

“Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men, and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist.”

Whether this was all an incredible marketing stunt for the movie, or what exactly the “odd online illusion” you saw was, we’ll leave up to you to decide for yourself. But as for us, we’d love Chris Pine’s agent – or better yet, Chris Pine or Harry Styles – to comment on what exactly happened, because our curiosity is far from satiated…
