‘Migos’ Rapper Quavo Reveals What It’s Really Like To Buy A Richard Mille
‘Migos’ Rapper Quavo Reveals What It’s Really Like To Buy A Richard Mille

The ultra-exclusive luxury watch brand is frequently name-dropped in hip-hop… And now, one of the world’s biggest rappers has shed a bit of light on what it actually takes to get one’s hands on a Richard Mille.

Quavo, co-founder and frontman of hip-hop trio Migos, recently discussed his watch-buying habits on an episode of Drink Champs, a popular podcast hosted by fellow rapper N.O.R.E.

The 31-year-old – who’s rarely seen without swathes of jewellery and owns many expensive watches from brands like Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe and Rolex – explained during the podcast that while getting Rolexes “direct” was relatively straightforward (must be nice), trying to purchase a Richard Mille at retail “is different” – and much more difficult.

“They act like they ain’t got no watches… You gotta know sh*t before you get in there.”

Quavo

WATCH Quavo and N.O.R.E. talk about how hard it is to get a Richard Mille below.

Podcast host N.O.R.E., who also owns a Richard Mille (indeed, he’s wearing one in the video above) weighed in, explaining that at the boutique he gets his watch serviced, you have to buy three women’s Richard Milles before you get “put on the list” for a men’s watch.

“What if I ain’t got a lady?”

N.O.R.E.

Watch fans have known for years that this sort of asinine hoop-jumping ‘hyped’ brands like Richard Mille make customers go through before they can buy one of their watches is, unfortunately, rather common. It’s just unusual to hear it actually being discussed like this out in the open.

Ah well. Rich people problems.

French Man Says American Wait Staff Don’t Deserve Tips
French Man Says American Wait Staff Don’t Deserve Tips

A French actor has gone viral for a hilarious rant about the absurdity of America’s tipping system, just days after we went viral with a disastrous first date story. He rips America’s bizarre system of tipping to shreds, saying: “You are not a stripper… why do you ask me for a tip?”

Actor Renan Pacheco, who got his career started in Paris and who splits his time between France and America, is on a bit of a roll when it comes to ribbing American culture. Activewear, gluten avoidance and abstinence have all bitten the dust already. Now it’s time for tips.

Taking to the video-sharing platform TikTok, Pacheco accused the wait staff at a juice bar he visited of expecting tips, without having actually done much work.

WATCH: French man rants about America’s tipping system

“Americans, what’s the problem you guys have with the tips,” he asked. “I don’t understand the concept of tips. Today I went to the juice place, he said, ‘hello tips.’ I thought, ‘oh wait… a minute… I walked into the juice place…I chose my own juice, I waited for the juice.'”

“I deserve a tip, not you. You’re not my friend, I don’t know you, you ask me for money…they ask for the tips like they are strippers. You’re not a stripper. You do strip tease? Why do you ask me for a tips?”

He wasn’t the only one who finds the system bizarre, with many comments on TikTok rolling in agreeing with him.

One said: “I’m American and I have a problem with ‘the tips’ too!!!” Another added: “My favorite is when they turn the iPad around. The tipping is out of control.”

Yet another tried to explain it, writing: “Because our country can’t be bothered to pay people fairly.”

Though Renan is clearly joking around, he might be closer to the mark than he realises (in a roundabout way). In fact, in restaurants especially (perhaps not so much juice bars), there is a subliminal yet obvious trick most men have likely experienced, with the New York Post reporting waitresses in the United States of America have found that appealing to the still apparent sleazy nature of men can see their earnings from tips increase exponentially.

Influencer Blasts Canggu Bali Traffic: Not Going To Miss This
Influencer Blasts Canggu Bali Traffic: Not Going To Miss This

Influencer/travel blogger Christian LeBlanc has revealed a side of Bali you don’t often see in the picture-perfect shots on Instagram. That side includes rain, grey skies and hectic traffic.

A Bali-based travel content creator and influencer has shown off a slippery side of Bali that we two-week tourists often forget about. Taking to Instagram to make a statement upon his departure from Bali to go on a trip to Egypt, LeBlanc said, in light-hearted fashion: “Goodbye Bali, not going to miss this.”

WATCH: Christian LeBlanc shows how wild Bali traffic can get

In the video, LeBlanc, looking out at traffic for days (and a rather rainy day) sarcastically says: “Bali is such a dream. Wow. Live laugh love guys. Let’s wander alright.”

Though Le Blanc lives in Bali for much of the year, and presumably doesn’t mind this trade-off, the video does show the gamble you take when you visit Bali out of the dry season, when rates are cheaper.

LeBlanc isn’t the only one who has pointed out how wild the traffic can be. Meme merchant The Canggu Pole constantly jokes about it and DMARGE correspondent Max Langridge, when he visited, also found Bali to be quite different to the version of it he had seen on social media.

“While I did get to see the ‘social media’ side of Bali,” Max said, “I also noticed plenty of other things that I wasn’t quite prepared for – the roads are ridiculous, riders have no fear, the beaches aren’t all pretty, there are a lot of stray dogs and… Bali belly is real.”

Qatar 2022 Will Go Down As The Best World Cup In History
Qatar 2022 Will Go Down As The Best World Cup In History

Despite the questions around whether or not the World Cup should have been in Qatar in the first place, from a sports point of view, Qatar 2022 was the best World Cup we have ever had.

There may be ethical issues around countries paying fantastic sums of money to attain the World Cup, and the Qatar World Cup looked on the verge of going down in history as a bit of a shonk at the start of the tournament, what with the rumours of fake fans (and the confirmed menace of there being no beer available to be sold in the stadiums), but in terms of on pitch action, the Qatar World Cup was the best World Cup ever. Here are a few reasons why.

Messi finally achieved GOAT status

I hate to state the obvious, but this one’s huge. This was a moment that could never have been, and I feel confident in saying the world is a better place for it. Just check out the below interview (in the lead-up to the game) where journalist Sofia Martinez explains just how much Messi means to Argentina. Heartwarming to say the least.

WATCH: Reporter tells Messi Argentina loves him no matter what

Considering Messi retired from international football in 2016 after a painful Copa America final loss (and a lot of cruel media scrutiny), his come back with Argentina over the last few years (winning the 2021 Copa America, and now the World Cup) is even more special. He also “survived” Mbappe in the final – arguably the greatest, most “in his prime” talent in the world right now, and for the vast majority of the match, Messi looked the better player.

Also, Messi got a bit more shirty than usual, giving it not only to Australia’s left back but also Louis van Gaal. Just think about it: Messi winning Qatar 2022 is a bit like Zinedine Zidane winning Germany 2006… except it actually happened.

Mbappe did Mbappe things

Mbappe roused his team at half time in the final, and then saved them from a weak World Cup final performance with an astonishing hatrick. No matter whether you are team Ronaldo, team Messi or team Haaland, you have to admit that unless this man sustains some kind of horrific injury he has the ability to break almost everyone’s records over the next ten years…

Ronaldo was at his petty best

This legend (and alternative GOAT pick, if you like strikers, not playmakers) may not be performing at the very top of his game anymore, but his passion, fury and pettiness are still on full blast, making for even more drama than we’ve seen in previous years at the World Cup. From shushing South Korea to trying to claim a goal by Bruno Fernandez we’re here for every intriguing headline this man generates.

Neymar had his heart broken

A legend having his dreams ripped apart isn’t something to celebrate. We really feel for the guy. But in terms of drama, this kind of horror is key. In case you weren’t in the know, Neymar scored a brilliant goal against Croatia, everyone thought Brazil had secured their spot in the next round and boom – Croatia, after looking toothless all game scored, took the thing to penalties and won, robbing us of the Brazil vs. Argentina semi-final everyone was hoping for. On the plus side, Neymar is younger than Messi, so he will hopefully get one more shot at winning the World Cup.

Behich went ‘more Messi than Messi’

Australia’s left back is an unlikely Messi replica. But after having a tussle with him in the first half, Behich went and showed the Argentine great how an ankle-breaking run is really done. Behich did all the hard work, beat a number of players, got in the box, and then was denied by a last minute tackle from Lisandro Martinez. Classic.

Emi Martinez gave zero f*cks with his Golden Glove celebrations

Image: Getty

You can talk about political protests all you like but Emi Martinez’ hip thrust probably sent more shockwaves through the world. His innocent, rogue attitude was the perfect complement to Messi’s diplomatic wearing of the bisht that was presented to him by Qatar, which upset some fans. Martinez’ celebration of waving around a baby doll with Mbappe’s face on the team bus back in Buenos Aires was hilarious too.

There were some heartwarming moments between fans

Credit: @goalglobal

From the moment a Qatari royal helped an English fan with his headwear, to the hilarious “we want beer” chants from the Ecuador fans, there wee a number of nice moments of connection between cultures, and sportsmanship.

One of the matches got a bit nasty

Image: Getty

It couldn’t be one of the greatest World Cups in history without one game full of angst and shithousery. And Argentina vs. The Netherlands provided this with aplenty.

England fans had something to cheer for (for once)

England may have gone full England in the end, but their fans at least had plenty of schadenfreude to indulge in to distract them from their misery. On that note: a bunch of villains got their comeuppance. It’s not just Ronaldo that ended up crying but also Suarez, a perennial villain who was stranded helpless on the bench as his team went out. This was a World Cup full of bragging, beef starting and heart on sleeve despair. There was really something in the air.

Sergio Aguero went full John Terry

A picture tells a thousand words…

We’ve never had a fairy tale ending this good

Though there were plenty of shocks and upsets (which make the fairy tale ending taste even sweeter) like Saudi Arabia beating Argentina in the group stage, we’ve never had such a fairy tale ending to a World Cup.

Michael Jordan’s Latest Timepiece Shows Why He’s The Watch-Collecting GOAT
Michael Jordan’s Latest Timepiece Shows Why He’s The Watch-Collecting GOAT

Not content with being the greatest basketball player to have ever graced the hardcourt, Michael Jordan has also established himself as one of the most exciting and respectable celebrity watch collectors on the planet. Just check out his latest watch.

The 59-year-old superstar – better known as an NBA team owner than an NBA player these days – made a rare official social media appearance to show off his most recent horological acquisition: a De Bethune DB27 Titan Hawk JPS (ref. DB27V2JPS) worth a solid US$60,000.

Picking up such an expensive watch would be enough of a flex for most mere mortals, but MJ isn’t your average bloke. Not only is his De Bethune the first customer-delivered example of this new model, but it’s also case number 23 – i.e., the number he wore throughout his career.

Let’s call it GOAT privileges.

Images: WatchBox / De Bethune

Founded in 1992, De Bethune is an independent Swiss watchmaker that’s developed something of a cult following thanks to its highly futuristic, high-concept watches. Most De Bethunes feature a unique case design with floating lugs as well as crowns at 12 o’clock – there’s no mistaking a De Bethune.

As the name implies, the DB27 Titan Hawk JPS features a black and gold colour scheme that pays homage to the famous John Player Special livery used by the Lotus Formula 1 team. MJ has always loved fast cars and motorsports – indeed, he now owns a NASCAR team, so we’re not surprised he’s gone for such a motorsports-inspired watch.

Uniquely, the watch’s case is made from polished black zirconium and yellow titanium, making it super light as well as tough. The DB27 Titan Hawk JPS is a limited edition of 25 pieces, and as mentioned above, Jordan has #23.

MJ seems to have a thing for super-futuristic mechanical watches. Earlier this year, he was spotted wearing a piece unique from another very sci-fi Swiss watch brand, Urwerk, worth a solid US$200,000. When you sell that many sneakers, you can afford some seriously nice pieces of wrist candy… Check out some of the other cool watches worn by NBA players below.

Formula 1 Bans Drivers From Making Political Statements Without Permission
Formula 1 Bans Drivers From Making Political Statements Without Permission

Shut Up & Drive may be a great song by Rihanna, but it also appears to be the theme of a new FIA rule coming into effect in 2023.

Formula 1 has been the backdrop for various political protests (and controversial destinations) over the last few years.

Now, however, the big wigs are cracking down. F1 drivers now need permission in writing from the sport’s authorities before making any kind of “political statements” during next season, if they don’t want to cop punishment.

This comes after the governing body updated the International Sporting Code for 2023. This code is published on the FIA website. Notably, there is a new clause in reference to “the general making and display of political, religious and personal statements or comments notably in violation of the general principle of neutrality promoted by the FIA under its statutes.”

Drivers who make these “political, religious and personal statements” will now be breaking the rules unless the FIA gives prior written approval. The current president of the FIA is Mohammed Ben Sulayem of the United Arab Emirates.

According to The Guardian, an FIA spokesman said the update was “in alignment with the political neutrality of sport.”

ABC reports that an athlete rights group has called the move “blatantly hypocritical.”

At the time of writing, retired great Sebastian Vettel and Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton (both of whom are known for their protests on the Formula 1 track) are yet to publically comment on the new FIA clause on their respective social media pages.

Sally Fitzgibbons & Friends Road Test Breitling’s New Summer Ready Watch
Sally Fitzgibbons & Friends Road Test Breitling’s New Summer Ready Watch

The following article was produced in partnership with Breitling.

There are few watch brands more beloved by Aussies than Breitling. That shouldn’t come as a surprise: the 138-year-old Swiss watchmaker is known around the world for their elegant yet capable tool watches that are perfect for men and women of action.

Their latest creation, the new Breitling Superocean, is no exception. A tough dive watch inspired by the best designs of the 70s, the Breitling Superocean looks retro but is actually filled to the brim with modern features, like a ceramic-inlaid unidirectional bezel, a chronometer-certified movement and broad hands and indexes in luminescent Super-LumiNova.

Water resistant to 300m, it’s also shock-, sand- and saltwater-resistant, so it’s capable of surviving anything an Australian summer can throw at it. In short, it’s the perfect watch for the Australian summer.

Light blue, white, black, brown… The Breitling Superocean collection is a veritable kaleidoscope of dive watches.

To demonstrate just how stylish and versatile the new Breitling Superocean is, DMARGE teamed up with Australian pro surfer and member of Breitling’s Surf Squad Sally Fitzgibbons to put the Superocean through its paces at Australia’s most iconic surf spot: Bondi Beach.

Sally was joined by a team of fellow surfing tragics including well-known foodie and marine biologist Hayden Quinn; The Bachelor star and DMARGE House host Matthew Johnson; actor Nick Slater, and model and fitness instructor Monique Craft.

Few mechanical watches can stand up to the rough and tumble of a morning out in the surf, but Sally, her team and their Breitling Superoceans were more than up to the challenge.

The great thing about the Superocean is that it’s tough enough to withstand the great outdoors but refined enough to be worn in the great indoors, too. As our team found, it’s a watch you can wear in the surf and then wear to a party on dry land straight away afterwards.

The new Superocean is available with two different strap options – a sporty rubber strap and a new three-row metal bracelet – which both have a folding clasp that allows for micro-adjustments of up to 15mm. That’s perfect for slipping your watch over your wetsuit or giving your wrist a little extra breathing room during a hot summer’s day.

Available in eight different colours, four different case sizes and three different case metals (including a limited edition Kelly Slater signature model) there’s a Superocean for every style this summer.

Influencer’s List Of Business Class Complaints Goes Viral
Influencer’s List Of Business Class Complaints Goes Viral

Business class is a naughty fantasy for most. But apparently, even when you put aside your environmental and financial guilt and get there, it’s not perfect. That’s according to travel blogger Estelle Berglin, whose list of tongue-in-cheek business class complaints has just gone viral.

Estelle Berglin has just punched through the TikTok algorithm with a video showing off all the worst parts of flying business class. Berglin begins the video, which is captioned “things that upset me during my business class flight,” complaining about the hot towels (“were they implying that I looked dirty?”). She then moves on to the toilet (“too peaceful, made me forget I was on a flight”) and the blanket (“too big and cozy, all I wanted to do was sleep”).

WATCH: Estelle Berglin reveals the biggest problems with business class

Next on the hitlist was “extra legroom” which was a very big problem because “I couldn’t touch the floor so much space” and the dining menu, which was annoying because it had too many options to choose from (and because the three course meal was too tasty and made her feel “too full”).

It’s not just travel bloggers who have noticed this pointy end pitfall. It’s also political editors like Adrian Wooldridge, who once  wrote “upgrades are… an invitation to dangerous self-indulgence” admitting he once “decided to go for the full six-course menu, which started with caviar and vodka and culminated via various Far Eastern detours with stilton and other cheese.”

“My fellow travellers arrived in South Africa fresh as daisies for their meetings. I arrived drunk, dishevelled and desperate to nap.”

Adrian Wooldridge

Finally, back to Berglin, the entertainment screen and hidden remote controller made her feel like her own home wasn’t smart enough and the huge movie selection meant there wasn’t time to watch everything.

Commenters were split. Some didn’t quite get the joke and roasted Berglin for her audacity to complain about business class (“Look at me I got moneyyyy… And I didn’t make any of it myself,” one wrote), while others commended Berglin for living her best life (“she looks happy tho”).

Other comments included: “nahh the leg room isn’t enough my phobia will trigger,” “I really need something to lean my legs on.. otherwise it hurts,” “gal deal with it most of us in economy with like 3 inch leg room,” and “there is never a private toilet on business.”

More noteworthy ripostes from the TikTok brigade were “U wanna switch,” “luxus problems” and “we get it… most of us are poor.”

Mark Wahlberg Spotted Wearing The Most Complicated Patek Philippe Watch Ever Made
Mark Wahlberg Spotted Wearing The Most Complicated Patek Philippe Watch Ever Made

It’s well-known by now that Mark Wahlberg is one of Patek Philippe’s biggest customers… But in case you had any doubt, his latest, most outrageous watch purchase should convince you.

The 51-year-old actor, entrepreneur, fitness fanatic and prolific watch collector has a particular passion for Patek: Wahlberg owns literally dozens of pieces from what’s widely considered the most prestigious watch brand on the planet, from iced-out Nautiluses (or is that Nautili?) to nifty Grand Complications.

Needless to say, with the amount of money he’s invested in the brand, he ranks among their most valued clientele – which is probably why he was able to get his hands on his latest piece of wrist candy.

Yesterday, Marky Mark took to Instagram to show off his new Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime (ref. 6300G-010): the most complicated (and one of the most expensive) watches Patek makes. The fact he was rocking in while in gym clothes and rocking an unkempt beard is arguably even more of a flex.

The Grandmaster Chime ref. 6300 is the most complicated watch Patek currently makes, with 20 complications including 5 chiming modes, a second time zone with a day/night indicator and an instantaneous perpetual calendar. Two of its complications are actually patented world firsts: an acoustic alarm that strikes the preselected time, and a date repeater that can sound the date on demand.

RELATED: Queue Jumper! Mark Wahlberg Rocks Patek Philippe Everyone Wants

It’s also a bloody expensive piece. Wahlberg’s model, which is made from white gold, would set you back a hefty US$3.6 million at retail – if you’re one of the select few mortals who Patek could or would ever offer you the chance to purchase at retail, that is. Otherwise, you could expect to pay upwards of US$9 million on the aftermarket. Ooft.

Indeed, a Grandmaster Chime ref. 6300 (the only stainless steel one in existence, to be specific) holds the title of the most expensive watch of all time, having sold at a charity auction for a whopping US$31 million back in 2019. Check out our guide to some of the other most expensive watches of all time below.
