Cierra Mistt’s Wild Pilot Story Divides The Internet
Cierra Mistt’s Wild Pilot Story Divides The Internet

Flight attendant Cierra Mist is exploding all over the Internet, with a spicy story about bunking in a hotel with a bunch of pilots who were notorious for inviting people back to their room to have a whole lot of fun.

There are a lot of rumours about what it’s like to be a flight attendant or pilot, revolving around the mile high club and other lavish experiences associated with the so-called golden age of travel. But in the year 2022 you’d be forgiven for thinking that’s all they were: rumours.

According to Cierra Mist, however, some wild stuff has still gone on in her career. Enter: her latest “spicy” story, posted to TikTok. Though she claims “due to legal reasons this is a joke” she appears to be serious in her retelling of events.

In the story, Cierra says one day while working as a flight attendant she checked into her hotel quite late. She says she was scheduled to bunk with a group of 9 other airline company workers, including some pilots who were notorious for having a lot of fun in the bedroom. To this effect, when she checked in, she says she got a weird look from the receptionist.

“She gave me this look like: ‘girl you better prepare yourself tonight.'”

Cierra Mist

Not having much other option, due to her being booked into the same room as the pilots, however, Mist claims she simply hoped they would have finished their “fun” seeing as it was so late, and went straight up to the room to try and go to bed.

Her hopes were dashed. She walked in to find the pilots and a few other people having quite a lot of fun. One of them even asked her if she would like to join in. Cierra refused, horrified, and went to sleep.

“When I get to the room it is the middle of the fun happening… There was a very specific smell I never want to smell again.”

Cierra Mist

Commenters on TikTok quickly raced to add their two cents. One wrote: “Who else but quagmire.” Another said: “Well time for a career change. Sign me up.”

“I’m in the wrong career,” another said.

Others said the story was a crock of sh*t, saying it was less believable than an email telling you that you’ve won a Macbook Pro…

We’ll let you be the judge.

Argentinian Reporter Wins The World Cup Without Stepping On The Pitch
Argentinian Reporter Wins The World Cup Without Stepping On The Pitch

Sofia Martinez, a Television Publica reporter, attempted to ease the pressure on Messi’s shoulders on Tuesday, telling him Argentina will always love him no matter what.

It’s hard to imagine the weight of 45.81 million people on your shoulders. Unless you’re Messi. The Argentine superstar, who has always been considered a ‘failure’ on an international stage, largely because he has never won a World Cup, will captain his team against current champions France in the early hours of Monday morning (2am AEST), and we’d wager those shoulders could do with a good massage. Enter: journalist Sofia Martinez.

In an emotional moment (this World Cup will almost certainly be Messi’s last) Messi told reporters on Tuesday: “It’s many years until the next [World Cup] and I don’t think I’ll make it. Finishing this way is nice.”

Messi has achieved everything there is to achieve on an individual and club level, having been a perennial goal scorer, assist maestro and Ballon d’Or winner. He has also won the Champions League four times and La Liga 10 times.

Until he led Argentina to victory at the Copa America in 2021, however, Messi’s results on an international level have always been a talking point. Though winning the Copa America in 2021 was huge, and though many people believe him to be the true GOAT regardless, winning the World Cup in 2022 would be massive for his legacy.

Put simply: no pressure…

Perhaps anticipating that pressure, and perhaps thinking back to that time in 2016 when Messi felt a bit unloved and unfairly treated by the media, after Argentina’s loss to Chile in the final of the Copa America, resulting in him (briefly) walking away, Argentinian reporter Sofia Martinez recently gave a heartwarming statement to Messi, after interviewing him.

Martinez said: “The last thing I want to tell you and it’s not a question, but I just wanted to say the World Cup final is coming and sure, we all want to win the cup.”

“I just want to tell you that no matter the results, there’s something that no one can take from you, and it’s the fact you resonated with Argentinians, every single one. I’m being serious.”

WATCH: Sofia Martinez tells Messi Argentina loves him no matter what

“There’s no kid who doesn’t have your shirt, no matter if it’s a fake, real or a made up one. Truly, you made your mark in everyone’s life. And that, to me, is beyond winning any World Cup. No one can take that from you and this is my gratitude, for the amount of happiness you bring to a lot of people.”

“I seriously hope you take those words into your heart because I really believe that’s more important than winning a World Cup and you already have it. So thank you, captain.”

Sofia Martinez

Messi appeared to be quite choked up, before replying: “I am very happy for finishing my journey in World Cups in a final, to play the last game in a final. That is really very gratifying.”

“Everything I lived in this World Cup has been emotional, seeing how much it has been enjoyed in Argentina. There are a lot of years from this year to the next one. I don’t think I will be able to do that. To finish this way is brilliant.”

“We are going to do our best, as we have done up until now, so that this time it really happens – we really win it.”

Messi has also suggested he has been enjoying playing international football more this time around, saying: “For a while now I’ve been enjoying it so much, everything that’s happening to us. Being able to end all this in the final makes me happy.”

With the likes of Neymar and Ronaldo having their hopes of international glory dashed once again this year, here’s hoping for a truly grand finale for Messi.

Virgin Australia Takes ‘Narrowbody’ Jet Trend To Tokyo
Virgin Australia Takes ‘Narrowbody’ Jet Trend To Tokyo

Virgin Australia is launching a new route in June 2023. The route will be from Cairns to Tokyo. The route will be serviced by a Boeing 787-8 aircraft. This is just the latest in a broader trend of airlines opting for narrowbody jets for longer (if not quite long haul) flights.

Virgin Australia on Wednesday announced its first-ever route between Cairns and Tokyo. The route, which will operate daily return flights, is between Cairns and Tokyo (Haneda). The service will commence on the 28th of June 2023.

The route is being launched in partnership with the Queensland Government and Cairns Airport. To celebrate, Virgin Australia launched a ‘Hello Tokyo’ sale on Wednesday. The sale features return fares from as low as $699 Economy Lite return, which will be on sale until midnight on the 20th December 2022 or until sold out.

Virgin Australia Group Chief Executive Officer, Jayne Hrdlicka said of the new route: “I’m thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-new daily, year-round Cairns-Haneda service with VA77 taking off on 28 June next year. We’re excited to offer our guests access directly into and out of Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, on new fuel-efficient aircraft.”

“Virgin Australia is a proud Queensland company and we’re delighted to add over 2,000 seats between these iconic destinations every week which means more value and choice for Australians wanting to travel to Japan. Importantly, it also means welcoming more Japanese tourists into the Sunshine State to enjoy our unrivalled natural wonders like the Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Islands.”

“We know the Japanese market is hugely important to trade and tourism in Far North Queensland and the Sunshine State and our service will result in more international visitors arriving in Cairns every year, having a very positive impact on the State’s economy.”

Jayne Hrdlicka

Queensland Minister for Tourism, Stirling Hinchliffe said the new Haneda to Cairns route was supported by Queensland’s $200 million Attracting Aviation Investment Fund, in partnership with the State’s four international airports.

“Japan is an important part of our inbound international tourism recovery plan for iconic destinations like Cairns and Tropical North Queensland,” he said.

“From World Heritage-listed rainforests to the Great Barrier Reef, we know Japanese travellers love Tropical North Queensland’s great lifestyle and first-class visitor experiences.”

“As one of our traditional top five nations for holiday arrivals, we’re excited to welcome visitors from Japan back to the Queensland sunshine for the experience of a lifetime.”

“Virgin Australia direct from Japan is terrific news for tourism operators, generating almost $70 million for the Tropical North’s visitor economy and supporting 680 good Queensland jobs.”

Virgin Australia’s decision to use a 737 for the 7 hour 30 minute Cairns to Tokyo flight has come under question by some Twitter users. One asked: “What kind of hell would that be in a 737?” Another claimed: “4hrs flying time ADL – PER or ADL – DRW is more than enough on a 737. You would be going a little stir-crazy after 7+ hours…”

Yet another said: “The Antipodeans are trying to wreck the pleasant, well used to be, art of air travel.”

Others, however, pointed out that there are plenty of other airlines that use 737 jets for flights of a similar distance and greater.

Smaller (single-aisle) planes and narrowbody jets were tipped to see a renaissance thanks to the pandemic, with international travel demand falling to unprecedented levels, and a slow recovery seeing airlines prioritise profits over comfort (even more than they had been previously). Consumer demand for more sustainable travel has also seen increased interest in narrowbody jets too, as they often consume less fuel.

Since international borders re-opened a year ago, Virgin Australia has resumed flights to Bali, Fiji, and Queenstown. A few more will be added to this roster in the first six months of next year, with Vanuatu, Samoa and Tokyo joining the crowd.

Virgin Australia also plans to commence Australia’s first ever Gold Coast to Bali service on 29 March 2023.

Watch Jacob & Co’s Founder Forge Cristiano Ronaldo’s Signature With Extreme Precision

The luxury watch and jewellery brand just released a video that shows their founder and creative director doing something more than a little sus.

Earlier this week, the New York-based brand shared a video to its Instagram account showing Jacob Arabo, the founder and creative director of the brand, ‘sketching’ the dial design of the Jacob & Co x CR7 Epic X: a personalized version of the brand’s most popular sports watch that pays homage to Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the greatest football players of all time.

RELATED: Cristiano Ronaldo Celebrates Manchester United Break Up With ‘Controversial’ Watch

Superficially, the video is nothing more than a cute little marketing stunt. But what’s kind of funny about it is that it appears as if Arabo perfectly replicates Ronaldo’s signature from memory… Which has raised a few eyebrows. Check out the video below yourself and see what you think.

WATCH Jacob Arabo’s sketch below.

Let’s spell out the obvious here: Arabo isn’t drawing this watch dial free-hand. He’s clearly tracing the design: you can see how there’s a stack of papers under his sketch. That’s why he’s able to draw perfect circles without a compass and nail Ronaldo’s signature.

Fans online have had a field day making fun of the video, one joking “that’s how he made his first million, by faking famous people’s signatures” and another commenting “I know he made a lot of money by not paying his taxes!”

For the record: Arabo has never been done for tax evasion, but he was sentenced to two and a half years in federal prison back in 2008 for lying to investigators looking into a multistate drug ring.

Anyway, it’s a bizarre video for a very ugly watch.

Secrets To Experiencing Sydney Like A True Local
Secrets To Experiencing Sydney Like A True Local

Want to convince people you bleed Bollinger and piss piccolos? Go to Totti’s on a Monday, avoid the CBD like the plague, go to an Alexandria beer garden, spend a fortune on a personal trainer, watch out for magpies and get obsessed with finding the latest “secret” rockpool. And that’s just the start, if you want to experience Sydney like a true Sydneysider…

There are more articles on how to make the most out of Sydney than you can throw an extra large flat white at. But to learn how to experience the city of sandstone and overpriced restaurants like a true local, read this one.

Getting to Sydney

When the flight attendants start blasting the plane with aerosols, act blase. You don’t stink. You just might be covered in apocalypse-causing bugs. Next, don’t get stuck lining up for a passport “ticket” – be bold and gamble that a machine further ahead, closer to the e-gate will be available, if the closer ones are full of people.

Learning the language

Some phrases you may find helpful include “hi,” “the bill please,” “ew, cockroach,” “my landlord just painted over the mould,” “my rent went up again” and “I’m so tired I may purchase a $1,200 sweater to wake myself up.”

Going out

Sydney looking fine. Source: sydney.com

Get the hell out of the CBD. If you value your wallet and dislike homogeneity and oysters, then go north, south, east or west.

Try Korean BBQ in Western Sydney, brunch at The Boathouse, dinner at Totti’s (but only on a Monday, so you can actually get a booking) or the inner west for a confusing piece of theatre or a better value knock off of a French, Spanish, Greek or Italian kind of restaurant you’d have to pay $400 for in the middle of the city.

For a taste-bud spanking Indian, try Nilgiri’s in Cremorne or Terry Hills’ Urban Tadka. For Mexican restaurants, Surry Hills, Newtown and Manly have a few options (even if every now and then one of your fish tacos will still be frozen in the middle).

Finally, accept that most restaurants in the city will play annoyingly loud elevator jazz to make up for their lack of atmosphere. To overhear the latest stock tip that will probably send you broke, go to Ryan’s Bar.

Beer gardens

Alexandria and Redfern are absolutely pumping with them. Coogee is pretty good for this too.

Driving

After 7:30pm most days Sydney feels pretty small. In rush hour it’s like crawling across the Sahara.

Pubs

You might go to one to watch Rugby Union if you’re from the North Shore. Otherwise, they are for degenerate gambling on the pokies and rugby league.

Live music

Go to Wollongong.

Exercise

To convince anyone you are a true stereotypical Sydneysider you must have an aggressively healthy morning routine. Take the following Tweet, for instance, where one David Attenborough-type netizen says: “It’s 8:20 in Sydney and all the locals are out on their morning runs and getting coffees meanwhile all the England fans are pissed up causing havoc in the pub – I love it.”

Further tips include wasting a fortune a year on a personal trainer instead of developing any willpower, taking up a lifetime-consuming hobby (surfing or cycling) that you talk about as much as you engage in it and downloading My Fitness Pal. You must also have a step counter. If you don’t hit 10,000 steps a day you must hand in your licence to be a Sydneysider and go and live in Tasmania.

Nature

You probably don’t need to worry about sharks and snakes, but watch out for magpies.

RELATED: Photo Sums Up Difference Between Going To The Beach In Australia & Europe

Public transport

Never refer to the train system as the underground – even if some bits of it are underground. Also, unless you’re getting the B-Line, never trust your bus to turn up when it’s supposed to. It will either be 20 minutes late, or 10 minutes early and you’ll miss it. And don’t bank on TripView to safeguard you against this either: its favourite expression is “real-time data unavailable.”

Social media

Brag about your Blue Mountains hiking expeditions if you must (although good luck with that: most of the cool ones are closed at the moment), make your friends jealous with your latest jaunt to Bali and post the exact same Bondi sunset sessions footage everyone has already seen.

Oh, and get obsessed with finding the latest ‘secret’ rock pool, fairy pool, figure 8 pool, or hidden waterfall which was actually only a secret 10 years ago, and post about it as if you are Christopher Columbus.

RELATED: Why Italians Will Never Understand Australia’s Obsession With Low Carb Dieting

Events

Bondi sunset sessions is pretty cool if you haven’t been. There is also some other dancing kind of thing nearby. There are also boat parties, illegal warehouse raves in Mascot (with like 7 people and some dodgy-sounding English geezer out the front!) and Harbour Life. There is also Vivid, which is overrated.

Beaches

Image: Getty

If the thought of starring on Bondi Rescue fills you with dread, there are a lot of sea pools. Oh and if you want to experience Sydney like a true local, head down for a dip in the middle of winter, in your boardies or budgie smugglers.

Finally, religiously check the Instagram account of your local beach photographer (there’s always one). Today you might have made the cut!

Housing

Spend the first twenty years of your life not worrying about buying a house. Then, from age 20 to 30, spend a decade complaining about not being able to buy a house. Next, at age 30, get a loan from your parents to help you buy a house. After this, you must slowly get quieter and quieter about the issue for the next 20 years, before restarting the cycle again with your own kids.

Money

Call Julio Iglesias eating KFC in a private jet your spirit animal. Say things like “my last meal would be chicken nuggets with a bottle of Prosecco.” Put an inflatable pool on the balcony of your $2 million house.

Cars

Be rich enough to drive a Prius, but poor enough you still have to sleep in it when you go up to Byron. Or have a fully kitted out adventure van, but only use it once a year (the rest of the time leave it in Erskineville, where it wastes three in-demand car spaces). Or… have a Land Rover with a roof tent and those orange “get myself out of a bog” things and never drive it anywhere riskier than terrain a Subaru Forester could handle.

The latte line

Act as though whatever quarter of the city you live in is Sydney. Everything else is an illusion. Ask yourself, “Why would I ever want to cross the bridge?” Extrapolate conclusions on the world and Sydney as a whole entirely based upon your own suburb.

Mental Health

Take it very seriously, except when it comes to the whole “cut down on the drinking and illicit substances” part. Meditate in public. If you have a “menty b” go to Vipassana.

Eating A Ketogenic Diet Could Improve Your Mental Health, Expert Says
Eating A Ketogenic Diet Could Improve Your Mental Health, Expert Says

We all know that exercise can boost your mood, but what about diet? A chat between American neuroscientist Andrew Huberman and Harvard psychiatrist Dr Chris Palmer recently explored the connection between nutrition and depression. Dr Chris Palmer also made his case for why he uses a ketogenic diet to help treat disorders like anxiety and depression in some of his clients.

We don’t want to go all Liver King on you (and you’d be right to be suspicious of a lot of the things in the online health space these days), but we’ve got an interesting chat about mental health and nutrition between two qualified experts that you really ought to hear.

American nutritionist Andrew Huberman, who recently went viral after going on Joe Rogan, recently sat down with Harvard psychiatrist Dr Chris Palmer to talk about the intimate relationship between diet and mental health.

As Huberman put it at the beginning of the podcast, “I think most people know what mental illness is… most people have some idea of what nutrition is… fewer people know how closely those things can interact.”

“They interact in a very intimate – maybe even causal – way,” Huberman said. “Over a long period of time what I ate yesterday, the day before, maybe even ten years ago could be impacting the way that my brain and body are making me feel now.”

No pressure.

Guest Dr Chris Palmer then told Huberman how he tried the Atkins diet in his 20s as a last resort when his doctor told him he would need to go on medication for his pre-diabetes. He ended up losing weight and feeling better, even if he did annoy some of his friends and family in the process.

“I had some friends and family who saw me, and saw that I had last some weight pretty easily. In particular, I remember my sister and my sister-in-law got really pissed at me one Thanksgiving because I could resist the pumpkin pie and apple pie and everything else. They were like: ‘how the hell are you doing that?’ They said: ‘how are you resisting all this food?’ and I said: ‘I don’t crave it anymore.'”

“I don’t want it, I’m fine I’m just having Turkey and green beans.”

Dr Chris Palmer

That was the point where he realised nutrition could “play a profound role in how you feel and operate.” He was still only a resident at that point though, so it was some years later before he started actually experimenting clinically with patients, and seeing how the ketogenic diet could be used to help treat things like anxiety and depression in conjunction with medication.

“Within a few years the primary thing I noticed was this powerful antidepressant effect,” Dr Palmer said. Now I’m an attending physician, I’ve got all these patients in my clinical practice with treatment-resistant mental illness.”

“I’m going to see if any of my patients are game to try it, to see if it might help them. Sure enough, it did.”

He added: “It didn’t help everyone and not everybody was interested/able to do it but some of the ones who were able to do it ended up having a remarkable and powerful antidepressant effect. One woman even became hypomanic within a month and she had been depressed pretty much non-stop for over 5 years – chronically depressed, suicidal in and out of hospitals.”

“I laid low at that point because at that point we didn’t have many clinical trials of the safety or efficacy of the Atkins diet for even weight loss, so I actually felt like I’m on the fringe here and this is not going to be met with praise from anyone – so I’m just going to lay low, offer it to patients and I went along that way up until 2016.”

“As the years went on, the field was advancing, more research was coming out [but] the thing that completely upended everything I knew as a psychiatrist though was when I helped a patient in 2016 lose weight. This was a patient, a 33-year-old man with schizoaffective disorder he had been my patient for 8 years.”

Left: Dr Palmer. Right: Huberman. Image via Youtube

“He had daily auditory hallucinations, he had paranoid delusions, he could not go out in public without being terrified. He was convinced that there were these powerful families that had technologies that could control his thoughts; could broadcast his thoughts to other people, were trying to hurt him… this man was tormented by his illness.”

“It ruined his life. He had already tried 17 different medications and none of them stopped his symptoms but they did cause him to gain a lot of weight. So that’s him, he weighs 340 pounds, and for whatever reason, he gets it in his head I’m never going to get a girlfriend unless I lose some weight. He also recognises I’m never going to get a girlfriend because I’m a loser – I’m schizophrenic, I live with my father, I have nothing going for me, but I could at least try to address one of the awful horrible things about myself and maybe I could lose some weight. So he asked for my help.”

Dr Palmer added: “We ended up deciding to try the ketogenic diet. At this point I have no anticipation that the ketogenic dirt is going to do anything for his psychiatric symptoms because this man has a schizoaffective disorder – that’s not depression, depression is very different.”

“Within two weeks, not only does he start losing weight but I begin to notice this dramatic antidepressant effect – he’s making better eye contact, he’s smiling more, he’s talking a lot more. I’m thinking, ‘what’s gotten into you – you’re coming to life? I’ve never heard you talk this much, I’ve never seen you so excited or present or alive.’ I haven’t changed his meds at all.”

Dr Chris Palmer

“The thing that upended everything that I knew as a psychiatrist was six to eight weeks in he spontaneously starts reporting you know, all these voices that I hear all the time, they’re going away and he says ‘you know how I always thought there were all these families… who were out to get me,’ he says ‘you know what, now that I think about it, I don’t think that’s true and … it probably never was… I’ve probably had schizophrenia all along like everyone was trying to tell me.”

“He’s now lost 160 pounds and kept it off to this day. He was able to do things he had not been able to do from the time of his diagnosis. He was able to complete a certificate program, he’s able to go out in public and not be paranoid. He has performed improv in front of a live audience. At one point he was able to move out of his father’s home and live independently. That completely blew my mind as a psychiatrist and I went on a scientific journey to understand what in the hell just happened.”

When Huberman asked: “Did he stay on any kind of antipsychotic or any other medication (and if so were the dosages adjusted)” Dr Palmer made it clear that he isn’t endorsing a keto diet instead of medication, but rather as another tool to help treat it – for some people – under the guidance of medical professionals.

“Getting off your meds is very difficult and dangerous and you need to do it with supervision, with a mental health professional or prescriber.”

Dr Chris Palmer

He answered: “In terms of medications, he has remained on medications. Early on I wasn’t adjusting anything. I was just in disbelief and shock that this was happening. Over the years we have slowly but surely tried to taper him off his meds – he has been on meds for decades, he started medications when he was a young child, his brain has developed in response to all sorts of psychiatric medications and it has not been easy to try to get him off. We continue to try and it’s challenging and difficult.”

RELATED: I Solved My Quarter-Life Crisis With A Skateboard

“Junk food, meaning highly processed foods that are usually high in both sugar and carbohydrates – carbs and fats – those seem to be the worst foods that combination of high sugar, high fat for metabolic health. We’ve got emerging data that strongly suggests it’s also bad for mental health.”

“As for the exact level of ketones, it really depends on the patient and what I’m treating. I don’t think every patient needs the ketogenic diet. For some patients simply getting rid of junk food can make a huge difference in a mood disorder for instance.”

Dr Chris Palmer

He added: “Depression and anxiety are the most common mental disorders and so we have the best data for those disorders, but we actually have a lot of data even with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia that insulin resistance in particular and insulin signalling in the brain is impaired in people with chronic mental health disorders kind of across the board – all the way from chronic anxiety and depression to bipolar and schizophrenia to Alzheimer’s.”

“We know that patients with all of those disorders have impaired glucose metabolism and that the insulin signalling system in the brain which is different than insulin signalling in the periphery seems to somehow possibly be playing a role. So for some patients, I might just want to reduce glucose and insulin level and I can do that by getting rid of sweets.”

“For other patients, like patients with schizoaffective disorder or bipolar (especially if it’s chronic), if I’m using it as a brain treatment then I do want a ketogenic diet and I usually want reasonably high levels of blood ketones. For depression, I usually want to see at least greater than 0.8. For psychotic disorders and bipolar disorders, I want to see levels of greater than 1.5 – that’s what I’m shooting for.”

RELATED: Lebron James’ Ketogenic Diet Could Be Your Ticket To Becoming A Shredded Beast… But At What Cost?

Huberman added: “I’m very relieved to hear what you said earlier, which was you never said that people should come off their medication and just go on a ketogenic diet and everything will be cured … rather you’re saying, if I understand it correctly, that nutrition needs to be considered one of the major tools in the landscape of effective tools and that it can be very effective evidenced by the story that you just shared.”

This in mind, you should always consult a qualified health professional before making any major changes to your diet or lifestyle. But hearing stories like the above can be a great inspiration to get you started looking for help, and to get you going on your journey.

Australia To Charge Tourists $25 To See Instagram-Famous Water Holes
Australia To Charge Tourists $25 To See Instagram-Famous Water Holes

NT is introducing a $25 fee for tourists wanting to visit some of the territory’s most famous national parks. These parks include some of the Territory’s most famous water holes and waterfalls like Edith Falls, Litchfield and Mataranka hot springs.

The NT is introducing a Parks Pass scheme that will apply to 50 of the NT’s 85 parks and reserves. The pay-to-visit scheme will come into effect on April 3rd, 2023 Though territorians will be exempt from needing to buy a Parks Pass, those not from the NT will have to cough up $25 and buy a Parks Pass if they want to visit any of these 50 of the Territory’s national parks.

The list of parks includes some of the Territory’s most famous swimming spots and waterfalls (Edith Falls, Litchfield and Mataranka hot springs are all in national parks on the list).

Tourists will be able to buy day passes, two-week passes or an open pass. There will also be different price schemes for families.

The ABC reports: “Visitors will still be required to pay camping and walking fees in addition to a Parks Pass, which means hiking the Jatbula and the Larapinta trails will cost even more next year.”

Also according to the ABC, Parks and Wildlife executive director Sally Egan said the money will go towards “protection, maintenance and safety of our parks and the creation of new visitor experiences.”

“Nothing at the moment that we are hearing or seeing is suggesting that people will have a real problem and it would stop them coming to the Northern Territory.”

Sally Egan

On Twitter, a number of criticisms have been levelled at the scheme (among a healthy smattering of defending of it, too).

Twitter user @pandemicmaiden wrote: “OK for the rich but this will cut out low income and welfare recipients.”

Twitter user @westonnights wrote: “How to kill off tourism in one easy lesson…Pay to visit natural Aussie beauty spots SICK IT WHERE THE SUN DON’T SHINE.”

More aggrieved comments included: “Next will we have to pay to swim on our beaches too?” and “What next? We need to pay for the oxygen we inhale and get taxed for the carbon we exhale?”

Francisco Argandona, a traveller from Bolivia, told the ABC he wouldn’t mind a small fee so long as the money went into conservation.

“I went to Uluru, where you pay to get in, and you feel the difference — the place is more clean, more safe, it feels better preserved,” he told the ABC.

“If it’s $5 it will be fine, if it was $10 or $20, I don’t know … maybe I wouldn’t go.”

Other individuals on Twitter made the point that this is basically the same system that applies in many other parts of Australia (where it generally works quite well, helping authorities keep nature relatively litter free).

Twitter user @BigJ74835035 wrote: “I’ve seen how tourists leave national parks after visiting, rubbish everywhere. If people have to be employed just to keep the area clean, I’d be happy to pay.”

Nick Kyrgios Returns To French Open As His ‘Girlfriend Wants To See Paris’

Mercurial talent Nick Kyrgios is going to the French Open for the first time in six years. Of the decision he told media “my girlfriend wants to see Paris” and “it will be good for me to earn some more money.”

Kyrgios, who is 27, last played at Roland Garros in 2017 (where he lost in the second round to Kevin Anderson). Since then he hasn’t been back (he even once called it “the worst tournament of them all”). If you’re keen to see him gallivanting around the Garros, however, you’re in luck. Kyrgios recently told reporters in Saudi Arabia: “Yes, I’m playing the French Open.”

“My girlfriend [Costeen Hatzi] wants to see Paris, so why not?

“It will be good for me to earn some more money. . .I’ve played well on clay, I’ve beaten Federer, Wawrinka, I’ve played a final on clay but usually at that time of year, I like spending time at home. Because if I don’t, then I’m travelling for eight months a year, it’s too much. But she hasn’t seen Paris – so why not?”

It’s also possible Kyrgios is sore after Ash Barty won the Newcombe Medal ahead of him, and is more motivated than ever to win a Grand Slam after his recent spate of good form.

As the Sydney Morning Herald reports: “Kyrgios, who enjoyed his best season and reached the final at Wimbledon, shared a graphic comparing his 2022 achievements with Barty’s on Instagram with the caption: ‘LOL. No respect at all. I don’t give a …'”

Either way, Australia will be rooting for him to come home with his first-ever Grand Slam win.
