Late last year we reported on the arrival of a brand new limited edition Speedster model from Porsche and today it’s officially here.
After almost a decade since the nameplate saw a debut, Porsche have pulled the covers off its brand new 911 Speedster ahead of the 2019 New York Auto Show and all signs point to a stunner. The only downside? It’s not based off the new generation 992 911 platform. The upside? It is based off the track-proven 911 GT3.
What that means is a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat six engine with a 9,000rpm redline alongside 375kW and 470Nm to boot. Given that it’s a GT3 platform, the Speedster also benefits from sharpened steering, dynamic engine mounts and…wait for it…a six-speed manual. Praise the manual gods.
Whilst most would assume the drop top to increase the weight of the car, Porsche ensured that the Speedster kept this in check by employing a manually operated fabric soft top – the only electronic aspect is the locking latches. In addition to this we have the front fenders, hood and rear deck made of carbon fibre.
Hiding behind the funky 20-inch centre lock nut wheels are carbon ceramic brakes which saves weight by 50 percent from the steel counterparts. Air conditioning? Not included…unless you want to add it in as an option. Or you could just drive with the roof off. All of these features combine to create a very capable package that can hit 100km/h from stand still in 3.8 seconds.
Inside the cabin drivers get to experience bucket seats in a leather and carbon combo highlighted with red stitching. Heck the Stuttgart spruikers can even sell you a matching watch by Porsche Design which we’re not really fans of but hey, each to their own.
Local pricing is yet to be revealed but given its limited run of 1,948 models, you can expect the Speedster to do a serious dent to your bank account.

Don’t call him Batman. Or Bruce Wayne for that matter. Those days are long behind him but it would appear that Michael Keaton is still dressing like the billionaire playboy of Gotham he once portrayed back in 1989. The only difference? This time he’s playing the 67-year-old version of himself and absolutely winning.Take his latest New York sighting for example. The seasoned actor was spotted roaming the streets of Tribeca this week rocking an outfit that any dad would be proud to pull off. The combination consisted of a denim jacket (collars and sleeves rolled up) layered over a navy cardigan and navy button up shirt. On the bottom, it was all about the chalk coloured trousers paired to dad-core Nike Air Maxes in mustard and and white. If that’s not stylish co-ordination we don’t know what is. Adding an extra element of daddy cool are the killer shades.
Exhibit two is another fine example of Keaton’s sartorial acumen. Whereas most guys his age would opt for trousers and a polo shirt, Keaton isn’t afraid to really polish things up for the right occasion. At the recent premiere of Dumbo, he rocked an immaculate tartan suit in monochrome which absolutely owned the red carpet. Take note of the fitment here where the trousers sit just right at the feet. The same could be said for the jacket fitment, tie and shirt combo which is simple but super sharp. Robert Downey Jr could take a few pointers here. The real question is: Would you let your dad dress like this? I.e. better than you.

Every man needs at least one blazer (or sports jacket if you’re in the US) in their wardrobe, ideally in navy. From there, guys can begin to expand their sartorial horizons with the introduction of new colours and fabrics.
The great thing about men’s blazers – and subsequently the reason you should own one – is that they are a perfect piece for effortlessly turning casual outfits into smart casual outfits. Looking just as good with a pair of jeans or chinos as they do with matching suit pants, the blazer is truly a versatile menswear essential.
There is much to consider when buying a blazer, however, such as colour, fit and fabric, and you also need to determine whether a structured or unstructured blazer will work best for the occasion(s) you’re going to wear it to.
Not sure what we mean by that? Read on for a brief rundown of all there is to know before buying a blazer, and then take a look at our selection of the best blazers for men.
Different blazer fits and fabrics
Structured Blazers & Sports Jackets
The structured blazer is all about the fit: cut super close to the body while maximising shape, helped out with some padding, linings and the inner jacket mechanics. Richer looking, the structured blazer requires quality fabric and engineering best seen to by a tailor or a reputable suit store.
It will normally carry more defined shoulders than an unstructured blazer, feel luxurious to touch, and hug the body to enhance the slim fit. At first glance too, the jacket will appear simpler, elegant, with minimal details and doesn’t discriminate against the lapel: peak, shawl and/or notch. Needless to say, it’s a seamless pairing with ties.
Unstructured Blazers & Sports Jackets
The unstructured blazer is for those gents who are maybe more blue-collar or artsy in their profession and don’t need traditional workplace attire. Or, perhaps you just prefer a relaxed approach to incredible style. Unstructured blazers are designed to mould to the body, are relaxed and boast a less rigid shape.
More commonly known as a ‘sports coat’, they still cut sharp on the shoulder and can hug close to the body of the wearer. But, unstructured blazers give a softer, relaxed fit – falling from the shoulder peak fluidly. Stripped bare, the unstructured jacket is just that – unstructured, so the typical inner folds and shapes given to retaining a jacket’s shape, are gone.
Casual details may be added though: front pockets, exposed seams, lack of lining, multiple buttons and sometimes buttons in contrast colour to the jacket fabric itself. Plus, they are more likely to be made from one piece of cloth, so they are thinner, making them great for winter layering or going solo as a light add-on for summer.
Blazer Fabrics
Most commonly, blazers are crafted with wool but you can get blazer in a variety of fabrics to suit your needs. You can easily get a cotton or linen blazer if you’re needing a blazer for summer or warmer temperatures, but if you’re after an all-rounder that’ll be durable and comfortable enough to wear all year long, you really can’t go past a wool blazer.

When Paris Saint German signed one of Barcelona’s deadliest prongs in August 2017, for a cool 222 million euros (roughly AU$350 million), some wondered whether Neymar’s agility, pace, ‘tekkers’ and social media presence justified the world record transfer fee.
48 goals later, and few were still questioning it—especially as his side has struggled badly without him (while Neymar has been injured this year PSG have been eliminated from the Champions League, and twice missed the opportunity to wrap up Ligue 1).
But how much does the man get paid? According to the BBC, Neymar is on a salary of 45 million euros (AU$71 million) per year, which equates to AU$1,366,245 a week, AU$195,177 per day, AU$8,132 per hour and AU$135 per minute.
While these are ‘before tax’ figures, if Neymar’s Instagram posts are anything to go by, there’s still a fair bit left once it hits his account.
So: how does Neymar spend his $71 million a year salary? Let’s check out his Instagram to find out!

While GaGa Milano is now one of Neymar’s sponsors, this came about after he spent $180,000 of his own money, in one day, at their store.
Cute Matching Outfits
Neymar came from humble beginnings and—unlike some other mega-rich sports stars (*cough* Floyd Mayweather *cough*)—has his priorities straight, dedicating himself to his family rather than flashing his cash on Instagram.
Hanging Out With Pro-Surfers

It’s no secret Neymar has a fast-blooming bromance with professional surfer Gabriel Medina, hanging out with him in Portugal, congratulating him on contest wins and—as you can see above—taking some sneaky vacation time together.
Earings
Will the real slim shady please stand up? What do you get when you cross Jack Sparrow with a right-footed Lionel Messi? Neymar Jr, take a bow.
Lakers Jerseys

When you’re on $71 million a year it probably doesn’t seem like much to drop a couple of hundred on an official NBA singlet. But still—we’re impressed.
Lakers Socks
Neymar really loves the NBA.

He’s human! Unless that happens to be a decaf. Or a green tea.
Romantic Nights Out With His Wife
We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again—despite the criticism he receives for his (occasional) on field theatrics and ‘World Cup Spaghetti’ hairstyle—Neymar has his priorities in order.

Neymar likes his ink. And if you had the weight of the world’s paparazzi on you 24/7, you’d pay a premium to get the designs spotless too.

Neymar has a truly beautiful… lounge. And his love for his wife’s pretty adorable too.

But still: nothing compares to his on-going bromance with Gabriel Medina.

You’ve got muscles for aesthetics. You’ve got muscles for strength. But do you have muscles to guarantee you a longer life?
That’s the question scientists wanted to find an answer to and it seems they’ve done it: lift faster whilst maintaining your form. More specifically, ‘muscle power’ is the secret to prolonging your life, according to Professor Claudio Gil Araújo, director of research and education at Brazil’s Exercise Medicine Clinic, CLINIMEX.
“Rising from a chair in old age and kicking a ball depend more on muscle power than muscle strength, yet most weight bearing exercise focuses on the latter,” he explained at a congress of the European Society of Cardiology this week.
“Our study shows for the first time that people with more muscle power tend to live longer.”
But what is ‘muscle power’ exactly?
Muscle power is defined as the body’s ability to generate force with velocity within a co-ordinated movement – i.e. the measure of work performed per unit of time. More power is generated when the same amount of work is done in a shorter amount of time, or when more work is done in the same amount of time.
Think 10 box jumps in 10 seconds or 20 muscle-ups in 10 seconds – the typical timed high-intensity exercises that most people love to hate. It differs to muscle strength in the sense that scaling stairs fast requires muscle power whilst pushing a heavy object requires muscle strength.
“Power training is carried out by finding the best combination of speed and weight being lifted or moved. For strength training at the gym most people just think about the amount of weight being lifted and the number of repetitions without paying attention to the speed of execution,” said Professor Araújo. “But for optimal power training results, you should go beyond typical strength training and add speed to your weight lifts.”
The reason for this is because humans experience a decrease in muscle power from the age of 40. Professor Araújo and his team believe that muscle power is “strongly related to all-cause mortality”.
“The good news is that you only need to be above the median for your sex to have the best survival, with no further benefit in becoming even more powerful,” he said.
The Brazilian study took into account 3,878 non-athletes aged between 41-85 years between 2001 and 2016. These subjects were split between sexes and exposed to upright row exercises. A follow up median study was then conducted 6.5 years later and it was concluded that participants with a maximal muscle power above the median for their sex had the best survival rates. Meanwhile, those with maximal muscle power below the median possessed a higher risk of dying.
Professor Araújo notes that this is the first time muscle power has been assessed in a medically quantitative way. In the past there had been similar studies which relied on handgrip exercises in relation to muscle strength, but not one that replicated the common movement used by most humans in daily life. Think picking up groceries or carrying things.
Whilst there’s evidence for this connection between muscle power and mortality, the researchers want to go one further by examining the relationship between muscle power and specific causes of death including cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
“Doctors should consider measuring muscle power in their patients and advise more power training,” added Professor Araújo.
Keen to do what it takes to live longer? Here’s the type of exercises suggested by the European Society of Cardiology to increase your muscle power.
- Choose multiple exercises for the upper and lower body
- Choose a weight with the load to achieve the maximal power (not so easy to lift and not so heavy that you can barely lift it)
- Do one to three sets of six to eight repetitions moving the weight as fast as possible while you contract your muscles (slow or natural speed in returning to initial position)
- Rest for 20 seconds between each set to sufficiently replenish the energy stores in your muscles to start the new set
- Repeat the above for the other exercises (biceps curl, etc.).
Progression is just as important as starting so don’t be complacent when things get easy.
- Start with six repetitions in each set and when the exercise becomes easy, try to increase to eight
- If it becomes easy again, increase the weight and go back to six repetitions
- If you unable to complete the repetitions with the proper technique, avoid “cheating” and go back to less repetitions or less weight. This is important to prevent injuries.

If Business Class is a gilded prison then First Class is a 5-star penitentiary. But despite the unending luxury on offer, over the years there have been a number of reports of First Class ‘ballers’ behaving as badly (and in some cases worse) than the cattle class passengers whose bare feet and bandaids they pay to avoid. In July 2017, for example, Traveller reported that a crazed First Class passenger had to be subdued after he tried to open the emergency exit hatch, punching a flight attendant in the process. This came after the infamous ‘nutgate’ incident of 2015, in which a female First Class passenger became enraged after she was served Macadamia nuts in a packet rather than on a plate, assaulting crew members and demanding that the plane be re-routed to get rid of the ‘offending’ flight attendant. Then in October 2017, a New York Post article came out suggesting First Class passengers had been paying flight attendants for sex, with one crew member (allegedly) making a lot of money as a highly sought after “dominatrix”.While this year’s incidents have been quite subdued by comparison, the response to them—for the whisky lovers and free pourers among us—has been quite cruel. As The New Zealand Herald yesterday reported, Emirates have recently changed their drinks policy, and—if the Herald’s travel blog source, One Mile At A Time, are correct in their observations—this is in response to the ‘naughty’ behaviour of a few shameless First Class passengers. But before your frontal cortex goes all Game Of Thrones—it has nothing to do with sex. No. This misdemeanour is all about money. Money and power. So what went down? The headline (literally) is this: “Emirates Hides Expensive Bar Items To Stop First Class Passengers From Stealing Them.”While the legally paranoid might panic at the lack of “allegedly” and “pre-emptively” from that statement, Emirates have indeed rethought their onboard displays. The airline, which recently invested a cool $739 million in updating their alcohol collection, will no longer be putting their best bottles (the retail value of which are equivalent to an airfare) on show.As One Mile At A Time reports, “As of this month, Emirates will no longer display Dom Perignon, Hennessy Paradis, Tessero, and the Emirates Vintage Collection at the first class bar. These items will continue to be available, and will instead just be in the first class bar cart.”While One Mile At A Time reported that this new policy was introduced “to avoid high-value items being removed,” Emirates clarified to The New Zealand Herald that it is also a space-saving arrangement.“The First Class display no longer features bottles as a fully stocked bar is already available at our iconic A380 onboard lounge,” the airline told Herald Travel.Either way: you have until the end of April before you will have to rely on your charm and good looks to convince Emirates bar staff to pour you an extra measure of Hennessy. And with some of the cringe-worthy behaviour we’ve seen creep into First Class this year, you really might need it…

Don’t crucify us yet. We love Robert Downey Jr just as much as the next fanboy, but one would think that after more than a decade as billionaire Tony Stark and Iron Man, he’d have enough change left over for a decent tailor. Unfortunately not.
The Avengers: Endgame promo circuit is currently in full swing and as we follow the stars across the globe we’ve noticed that Robert Downey’s civilian suits are…better…but still on the more scruffy outlandish side.
Take his latest press appearance in South Korea for example. Overnight Downey Jr rocked a light brown suit paired to a unbuttoned white shirt, floral print tie and pocket square. The issue here isn’t so much the choice in pieces but the clash of colours and patterns – there just seems to be no consistency in the look, a look made much worse with…dun-dun-dun…Iron Man themed leather boots. Just look at the way they bunch up the trousers at the feet. Dapper Cap would not be too pleased about that trouser length.
For evening duties Downey Jr changed into a much nicer combo with matching camo accents on the tie and pocket square. Shirt? Properly done up like a grown man. Belt? Woven. Tinted specs? Definitely on point. And then…we have the offending Iron Man boots yet again. A nice pair of leather lace ups or double monks would be perfect in this scenario.
Need more evidence of the point we’re trying to make? Take a look at this gem from the Iron Man premiere of 2008.
But hey, who are we to complain. We’ll just take this as the Robert Downey Jr. signature quirk. We love the guy, we just wish his final outing as Iron Man would be a more polished one on the promo circuit.
