Prepare your lonely wardrobes for an all out assault thanks to some of the world’s best dressed men this week.
Big stars and newcomers were the flavour of the week thanks to major events like CinemaCon and the NBA playoffs paired with your usual round of parties and launches.
First up, Mr. Pool himself, Ryan Reynolds. The 41-year-old actor hit the press conference rounds in classic bomber-chino combination paired with what we touched on earlier this week – bold print Hawaiian shirts.
It’s a winning combo leading into the warmer seasons and there’s really now faulting this casual look.
Bradley Cooper also joined the ranks of worthy mentions with a biker-inspired outfit with weathered boots whilst Tom Cruise scraped in with a pared down blue suit with a touch of sheen.
Other names we’ve thrown in there include Will Arnett, Marcus Smart, Darren Kennedy and more.
Hit the gallery to steal some killer looks.

Standing out in the realm of million dollar hypercars is hard work. With manufacturers traditionally focusing on refining the way their cars look and feel, little attention has been given to the humble key itself – until now.Whilst Tesla’s Model X key pioneered it with a novelty trick they called ‘Party Mode’ (flashing lights synched to music), BMW took it to the next level with a 7 Series key that could drive the car automatically out of a car spot. Designer Iskander Utebayev wanted to take it further so apparently (it’s still being debated of the videos are real) he’s created futuristic concept keys for some of the world’s most exotic hypercars. His Instagram page, Bat Not Bad, shows off eight striking designs of keys which can start anything from a Bugatti Chiron to a Lamborghini Centenario. Each key features fingerprint I.D and is custom designed to match the aesthetic of each car. Whilst it is enthralling to watch, there’s little evidence to prove that the product actually exists – Utebayev’s bio link takes users to a page for his alias, Alex Richman. That page is under construction.Nonetheless you can check out what could possibly be the future of car keys in the clips below.

No one likes jangling around with coins in their pockets, so ever since contactless payments were introduced we’ve hardly looked back. However a new investigation has shown many people have no idea about the underlying costs of the process—in which you may literally be ‘buying time’. Even more worryingly—for those of us addicted to pay-waving (away) our savings—if you use tap-and-go, even on a debit card, you are probably being charged credit-card rates.
Tap-and-go payments are convenient. But they are expensive to process; as Dr Michael Schaper, deputy chair of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), told the ABC:
“Many people don’t realise that when you use paywave it is processed through the credit card system and for most businesses there is a fee they’re charged through their bank or their card operator.”
Dr Schaper went on to say, “All cards (are) processed as a credit transaction by default under the popular tap-and-go system”. Many retailers are now choosing to put that cost back on customers.
There are two ways a business might do this. Either they absorb the processing costs themselves and put their prices up (so that a $3.50 coffee now costs $3.60), or they add a sneaky surcharge at the counter.
“If you do tap and get hit with an extra charge, it is legal.”
Executive director Russell Zimmerman told the ABC that it’s a lose-lose situation, which puts pressure on small businesses’ bottom lines as well.
“This has happened by stealth and retailers didn’t realise what was happening when they were asked to sign on to tap and go.”
He also said that Westpac, ANZ and NAB plan to give retailers the option to process tap-and-go payments through less expensive routes. Until then, however, if you want to help your bearded-barista’s boss not have to keep putting the prices up on his $5.75 chai lattes (or if you want to avoid a surcharge), stick to cash—or remember your PIN.

Consider yourself the seasoned flyer? Well you should probably get acquainted with the most common airline foods which are unassumingly bad for your health. It’s a trap we’ve all experienced with so much time, so many enticing options and so little to do at 10,000 feet. Falling into the delectable trappings of airline food is easy as staring deeply into a custard-filled blueberry muffin.
“I’ve met a lot of people that won’t eat airline food full stop and instead will take their own little packed lunches or dinners.” – Tobie Puttock
But we digress. If you were following a strict diet when you were on land, stuffing your face with whatever the flight attendant drops in front of you is one of the worst ideas.

— Casey Neistat (@CaseyNeistat) February 5, 2012
Here are five of the most common perpetrators of the worst airline foods for your health.
Pasta, Bread Rolls & Carbs
What you fear on land is worse in the air. On long haul flights your lack of physical movement means that your digestive system isn’t processing food through the intestinal tract as quickly as it should. When you fuel your body with energy-rich carbs such as pasta, bread rolls, noodles or rice, you’re inviting your body to be bloated for the next ten hours or more. This engages a flow on effect where you end up leaving the long-haul flight feeling tired and sluggish on top of jet lag.
Salted Pretzels & Nuts
They say great things come in small packages, but not this bad boy. Those little salted packets of pretzels and nuts often handed out as a light snack are anything but. They are high in sodium (salt) and when ingested, it absorbs the body’s fluids and stays there to leave you feeling bloated, dehydrated and thirsty. They’re also made from carbs which offers minimal nutritional value. Pair that with the dry air of an airplane cabin and it’s the perfect formula for a sleepless flight.
Fruity Snack Bars
Oh look, a heathy fruity snack bar…wrong. Whilst nuts and seeds are good on their own, the snack bars often offered by airlines come with a glazed coating of sugar and more of it to hold the seeds and nuts together. It’s essentially a chocolate bar hidden in seeds which offers little nutritional value. These can also affect your blood sugar levels causing you to have mood swings – not ideal on a 20+ hour flight unless you want to go viral on social media.
Coffee
Coffee might be the first order of the day on land but in a plane it’ll simply make you want to go to the toilet more. It also dehydrates the body and accelerates it with the help of a dry cabin.Drink it at the wrong time and it could also mess up your sleeping patterns and throw off your body clock entirely. Tread carefully with caffeine as extra milk could also upset your stomach to cause flatulence and multiple bathroom visits.
Alcohol
Who doesn’t love a glass of bubbly upon seating? The only issue here is weighing up how you want to feel on the flight compared to your five minutes of bliss.Alcohol has a bigger effect on the human body at altitude alongside dehydration. You’ve already got to battle jet lag, dry air and indigestion, so don’t make it harder for your body to cope during those long flights.
The Solution
The solution to airline food behaving badly is essentially prevention. Replace carbs like pasta, bread and rice with protein like fish, chicken and beef.Instead of a fruit bar, have actual fresh fruit (if offered) or go for vegetable sticks which are packed with vitamins, minerals, protein and fibre.
“These days as I am super busy and have a family, I don’t say no to much and instead sink into the seat and enjoy a movie and a beer, pretzels or whatever comes.” – Tobie Puttock
Australian celebrity chef Tobie Puttock who is known as Jamie Oliver’s right hand man says that at one point in his career, he wouldn’t touch airline food at all and instead took his own lunch or dinners.“These people are generally the ultra flyers,” admits Puttock. He’s also realistic about the situation though.“I think I went through that stage actually. These days as I am super busy and have a family, I don’t say no to much and instead sink into the seat and enjoy a movie and a beer, pretzels or whatever comes.”“The guidelines on airline food preparation is the strictest so I wouldn’t worry too much about becoming ill from certain foods.”“The main thing for me is be sensible. If you have endless meetings when you land then lay off the booze and coffee and get some sleep.”Puttock could be speaking from his own experience though.

Recently in the States, the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) investigated Gate Gourmet Inc., the world’s largest airline catering company over a string of health issues at one of the company’s main production kitchens in Kentucky. The findings led to the FDA downgrading the catering company’s status from approved to provisional. These are violations that the FDA discovered:
- The firm failed to exclude pests from their food plant to protect against contamination of food
-
Evidence of apparent cockroach activity and lack of effective measures to exclude cockroaches and other pests from the manufacturing and processing areas was observed during the inspection on November 29, 2017 and consisted of the following:
- One apparent live cockroach was observed on the interior side of the oven door located in the hot production kitchen and one apparent live cockroach was observed on the floor beneath the mechanical flight-type dishwashing machine (Machine #1) in the dishwashing room.
- Dead apparent nymph and adult cockroaches too numerous to count were observed inside the storage compartment to the four-burner gas range in the hot preparation kitchen. Additionally, multiple dead apparent nymph and adult cockroaches were on floors near drains and behind cooking equipment in the hot preparation kitchen and on glue traps in the employee cafeteria.
- Unsealed water pipe penetrations with heavy apparent cockroach fecal markings were observed in the wall underneath the 3-compartment pot wash sink in the hot preparation kitchen.
- Non-operational cooking equipment, which could serve as harborage sites for pests, were located along the cookline in the hot preparation kitchen. These pieces of equipment had apparent old food and grease deposits throughout.
It was only back in November 2017 that Gate Gourmet had also discovered a bacteria known as Listeria in its kitchen at LAX airport alongside several of its partnered airlines including Virgin Australia and Delta.Given the broader details, there’s only really one real conclusion: Choose your airline grub wisely.

In the same coffee-stained hour the Internet’s attention can change dramatically. This week though, The New York Times’ report on ‘The Top Jobs Where Women Are Outnumbered by Men Named John’ came out with controversial findings that will have people salty on Twitter for quite some time.
At a coffee shop last month, I overheard a young man saying he was going to be unable to get a job because “women are taking over.” His name was John…Top Jobs Where Women Are Outnumbered by Men
**Named John** https://t.co/yr18SvcKKT TY for this @clairecm @KevinQ @sangerkatz pic.twitter.com/MvPN7khk3g— Soraya Chemaly (@schemaly) April 25, 2018
Not only are fewer women Fortune 500 executives than men named James (women ‘outnumber’ the number of men called John in this area by 2…) but, “Fewer Republican senators are women than men named John—despite the fact that Johns represent 3.3 percent of the male population, while women represent 50.8 percent of the total population.”
There was also a disparity found between the number of male and female Liberal (the loose US equivalent of Australia’s Labour party) senators, however the gap wasn’t so big—they had to add the Benjamin, Brian, Charles, Chris, Christopher, Cory, Doug, Edward, Gary, Jack, Jeff, Joseph, Richard and Robert’s to the list (in addition to John), to find an imbalance.
So there’s an issue in both parties, but in Trump’s it’s worse. Who’d have thought? Researchers often point to the different cultural (and biological) expectations women deal with to explain their lack of representation high up the corporate ladder (women are more likely to take breaks from their careers to raise children, for instance), however in the context of politics, perhaps equal representation (even if initially we have to get there artificially, through affirmative action) is more important than it is in business (because being a senator is literally about representing your populace, 50% of which are surely not called John).
As affirmative action is a key liberal policy, it makes sense that they are closer to 50/50 representation. But what do you think? Is the short-term ‘engineering’ of equality worth it for the natural checks and balances it will create down the line (when more women become CEO’s and senators)? Or is it better to focus on promoting more open-minded social-expectations and let the results slowly look after themselves?

Spiderman, Spiderman, does whatever a spider can.
And in this case, the youngest Avenger has made do on the red carpet with a classic double-breasted suit in green paired with a maroon crew neck tee.
It’s a pared down look that’s been championed by English men like David Gandy in the past but for a young guy like Tom Holland to pull it off, it’s worthy of a mention – especially since he’s also gone through the effort of giving those deep mahogany shoes a polish.
The result? Cool, casual and classy with a hint of modern slim suiting.

Whilst some may call it plain, the mild colour blocking between the British green and maroon shirt along with the detailing of a double-breasted blazer gets this one over the line.
On top of that, it’s also the perfect solution to rocking a suit for when your dress shirts go walkabouts at the dry cleaners.
Nice work, Spidey.

We last brought you news about two extremely coveted bottles of The Macallan 1926 single malt whiskies heading to auction in May at Bonhams Hong Kong.
Well overnight Dubai Airport retailer Le Clos beat them to it, selling two of those exact same bottles for a record-breaking US$1.2 million.
The rare bottles which were snapped up by an international businessman consists of The Macallan Peter Blake 1926 60-Year-Old and The Macallan Valerio Adami 1926 60-Year-Old.
Bottled in 1986 as just 24 examples (12 for the Blake and 12 for the Adami), the dynamic duo of the whisky world features vintage labelling designed by acclaimed pop artists Peter Blake and Valerio Adami.
Blake himself is the man credited for creating the Beatles’ album cover for Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band whilst Adami is renowned for his abstract images using bold black lines.
When it comes to any premium whisky cracking the magic US$1 million mark, experts like Martin Eber of drinks publication Time for Whisky says that it all comes down to rarity.
“Whilst age and provenance definitely has a lot to do with it – 60-year-old is ancient in whisky terms – The Macallan is sometimes seen as the pinnacle of Scotch, especially their bottlings released from the 1960s to 1990s.”
“The main thing driving the incredible price is that these bottles were limited to 12 pieces, so it’s extremely rare for them to become available. They were also distilled in the 1920s, and you don’t see a lot of whiskies from that far back these days.”
Retailer Le Clos said that the original sale of the bottles went for £20,000 whilst the last official sale of an individual bottle went for US$75,000 via an auction at Christie’s.
For now at least Le Clos are the world record holders for the most expensive whisky ever sold. We’ll keep you all posted on what price the bottles at Bonhams fetch on May 18.

Political commentators like criticising the politicisation of ANZAC day almost as much as activists like hijacking it. And it’s not limited to activists: SBS reporter Scott McIntyre lost his job in 2015 for questioning the militarisation of national memory and the sacred status of veterans, while Yassmin Abdel-Magied famously used the day last year as an excuse to remind people of the plight of refugees in Australian detention centres.
It’s impossible to say whether the ANZAC’s would have objected to their day being used to bring attention to modern-day injustice, or questioned in order to promote a more holistic recollection of our past. Obviously they would have all had individual feelings on the matter. What we can say with certainty though, is that their descendants (and anyone who wants to honour them) should be able to do so in peace.
However that doesn’t mean we should never think about the implications of our “secular holy day”. John Birmingham at the Canberra Times summed it up well when he said, “Ferociously policing the meaning of Anzac Day and punishing the merest instance of thought crime is undoubtedly good for ratings, sales and clicks, but it does nothing to improve the lot of veterans who continue to suffer from PTSD and from the simple but very real challenge of leaving behind their days in uniform and rejoining civilian life.”
“You will know we’re serious about honouring their legacy when you see as much outrage about the high rates of suicide among returned service members as you do about somebody’s tweet.”
This got us thinking. And we basically agree. However we would add one extra suggestion: if you want to honour the Diggers you should make the effort to wake up early. As John Coyne, a veteran points out, it doesn’t have to be at an official event or location. But, especially if you’re someone who lacks a personal connection to the ANZACS, we reckon getting up early adds a sense of magnitude and connection to your remembrance.
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn;
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.”
Disenchanted with the stolen-valour and carnival atmosphere of what he believes should be a sombre occasion, these days Coyne chooses, “To head out into the Australian bush surrounding Canberra. Well before dawn’s first light I make my way to a piece of high ground overlooking a valley floor.”
“I stand too with dawn’s first light, sitting silently and generally shivering in the pre-dawn chill. To the cacophony of bush noises, I reflect on those who made the ultimate sacrifice while on operations, or after they’d returned home. I think about the cost of our service: both the physical and psychological. I remember our stories, good and bad.”

The luxury SUV market is well and truly on a roll with the latest leak of the Mercedes-Maybach Vision Ultimate Luxury concept car.
The high-riding limousine with one hell of a name was to make its world debut at the Beijing Motor Show next week but was “accidentally” posted to Maybach’s microsite where Autoblog picked it up before it was removed.
What you see here then is the latest all-electric German SUV with a touted power output of 560kW thanks to electric motors at each wheel. That’s also enough to see the car hit a maximum velocity of 250km/h alongside an impressive 320km range with the help of a 80kWh battery pack.
Fast charging is supported by a fast charge cable which can deliver 75 percent of the battery’s capacity in just five minutes. Don’t like cables? There’s also wireless charging built-in via wireless inductive technology.
Design-wise the exterior of the Mercedes-Maybach Vision Ultimate Luxury borrows the lines from the previously debuted Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6 coupe concept. Up front a large chrome grille is paired with the Mercedes-Benz badge and narrow triple element LED lighting.
And just to let people know that it’s no pretender, the Ultimate Luxury also comes with raised ride height, front and rear scrub plates and wheel arch mouldings – finished in chrome, naturally.
Interior-wise it’s a four-seat affair with lashings of white leather, chic blue LED lighting, wood grain, rose gold seat shells and…wait for it…a tea set in the centre console.
Will it see the light of production to take on Rolls-Royce’s first ever SUV? Only time and public reception will tell.
Until then, good luck seeing this one on your local off-road trail.
