This Pop-Up Restaurant Is Travelling To 20 Countries In 20 Months
This Pop-Up Restaurant Is Travelling To 20 Countries In 20 Months

Creating one successful restaurant in a single location is a monumental task, but taking your pop-up on a global gastronomical tour that covers 20 menus in 20 countries over 20 months? That’s downright Herculean.

And it’s exactly what the irrepressible minds behind One Star House Party are doing.

The trio behind the concept are husband and wife team Kevin and Trisha McCrae, and former NOMA chef James Sharman. It all started with a successful pop-up restaurant in Hong Kong… then one in New York… then one in San Francisco. One restaurant led to another, and the team was hooked. One Star House Party was born.

“We started this because we were all tired of the environments that we had been working in,” said Sharman to Hong Kong Tatler (which also notes that the name is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Michelin stars earned by the team members’ previous restaurants). “They were all amazing places with incredible people, but we just wanted to do something that was kind of outside and completely uncontrived. We just knew it was what we wanted to do from now on.”

Now halfway through their epic world tour, McCrae, McCrae, and Sharman have the transitory eatery down to a science. They arrive in each destination early to scope out the best and most exciting local ingredients and recipes, then craft a new, unique menu for each location. While the founding threesome remains the same, the venue, the country, and the ingredients became the variables, defining each restaurant they build wherever they build it.

So far, their tasty travels have seen them live and work with a family of Vietnamese street food traders, fish offshore with a Thai crew, and study how people in the Himalayas have learned to cook against the odds. They’ve travelled by planes, trains, and automobiles for a total of 12,636 miles so far.

Each restaurant lasts only one week, but what a week it is. In New York, the pop-up took place in one of the city’s most expensive Airbnbs. In Kenya, they created a floating restaurant on a crocodile-infested lake. In Vietnam, they set up in a sleeper train. They even made history by creating a dining experience at Everest Base Camp.

One Star House Party is currently in London for a month to showcase what they’ve learned on their journey so far. When they leave on November 3, they’ll have eight stops to go, including Buenos Aires, Vancouver, Hobart, and Tokyo.

Reservations can be made via the One Star House Party website – or, if you prefer a more hands-on experience, you can apply to join the team as an intern in the country of your choice. All flights and expenses will be paid for, and you’re guaranteed to eat well.

Range Rover Sport Goes Plug-In Hybrid For The First Time Ever
Range Rover Sport Goes Plug-In Hybrid For The First Time Ever

Range Rover have shaken up their mid-cycle refresh by introducing a feature never before seen on one of their vehicles – plug-in hybrid technology.

For the 2019 model year Jaguar Land Rover will officially welcome the Range Rover Sport P400e, an SUV which looks like the traditional-modern Range Rover but now mimics the technology of full electric vehicles like Tesla.

Powering the P400e is a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine punching out 221kW that is further bolstered with an 85kW electric motor for a combined 297kW of power and 640Nm of torque. Drive is via all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission and whilst we’re not exactly chasing performance figures here, the P400e can still hit 100km/h in 6.7 seconds and before topping out at 220km/h.

Of course those in the market for this type of vehicle will be looking at the green figures and the new SUV certainly delivers. Combined fuel consumption is claimed to be a lowly 2.8L/100km whilst running on battery power along can afford the 51km of range.

These figures are enough to make the Range Rover Sport the most fuel efficient Land Rover vehicle ever produced.

Google's Latest Smartphone Wants To Turn Amateurs Into Photographers
Google's Latest Smartphone Wants To Turn Amateurs Into Photographers

Google have officially unveiled their full line up of smart devices today with minimal hype and fanfare – and that’s a good thing.

At a refreshingly conservative event held at their San Francisco HQ, the tech giant unveiled the Google Pixel 2 and larger Pixel 2 XL alongside a host of other smart devices which includes a big speaker, a small smart speaker, a laptop, a VR headset, a pair of wireless earbuds (smart, obviously) and a smart camera. One can assume with this arsenal that the search engine giant is going after Apple at its own game.

So what’s Google’s secret weapon? Their devices are designed to learn from its user in order to bridge the gap even further between technology and a human’s lifestyle.

Here’s what you need to know about the Google Pixel 2 along with a wrap of the other key devices you’ll actually use.

Google Pixel 2

The greatest smartphone camera ever. That’s a big statement to make but according to DxOMark, the leading reference for image quality, the Google Pixel 2 packs the best camera ever to be found in a smartphone.

The Pixel 2 receives the same 12.2MP camera as the first model but now gets an added portrait mode to put it in line with the iPhone 8 Plus. The front facing 8MP camera also get portrait mode. As an added bonus, users won’t have to choose the larger Pixel 2 XL model for superior picture quality as both models will come with the exact same camera specs.

Will its vibrant imagery be enough to make any seasoned pro blush? Probably not, but it will definitely be a very welcomed addition. Beyond the camera the Pixel 2 will come with 5-inch OLED screen for the standard model and a 6-inch pOLED 18:9 display for the XL. The device will run on Android 8.0 Oreo whilst being backed up by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor.

On the practicality front the phone will feature water and dust resistance from a metal unibody construction with a  streamlined glass panel at the camera section. A USB-C port will support rapid charging to provide 7 hours of battery life for just 15 minutes of charge. The earphone jack is now also gone.

Google Assistant and Siri’s arch nemesis will be built into the Pixel 2 which comes in 64GB and 128GB storage capacities. Cloud storage will be unlimited for users.

Whilst there is no release date yet, the Pixel 2 will retail from $1,079 whilst the Pixel 2 XL will set buyers back $1,399.

Google Pixelbook

Google’s take on the premium laptop is an entirely standalone affair from the typical Chromebook. The new device runs on Chrome OS and is powered by either an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor. 8GB or 16GB of RAM ensures haste of operations whilst there’s 128GB of storage on hand.

For ample viewing Google have appointed a 12.3-inch multi-touch display alongside two USC-C ports, a larger trackpad and keys. The Pixelbook can also double as a tablet with a simple flip of the screen which should complement the new and optional Pixel Pen (stylus) quite nicely.

On the design front the Pixelbook features an all-glass back panel and a thickness of just 10mm. As with the smart theme, Google Assistant is also in-built.

Australian pricing and release date is yet to be confirmed but expect it to be north of the American RRP of $1,272.

Google Pixel Buds

Apple Airpod, meet your competition. No headphone jack means wireless music on the Pixel 2 platform and they won’t be cheap.

Our biggest gripe here is that these “wireless” earphones which command $249 a pop are actually connected with a wire so that it’s harder to lose. This essentially makes them no different to any other wireless Bluetooth earphone on the market today which likely boasts superior sound quality.

They do however have Google Translate built in which means you can eavesdrop on foreigners and hear their translated conversations.

Google Home Mini

In its simplest form it’s a 10cm smart speaker with Google Assistant. It is affordable too at $79.

Google Home Max

Basically a bigger and more capable version of the Home Mini, the Home Max boasts twin 13cm subwoofers and tweeters suited for more bass-heavy tunes. Google Assistant is also built in and will retail for roughly $500.

Tinder Has Launched A New Feature To Combat D*ckheads
Tinder Has Launched A New Feature To Combat D*ckheads

Douchebags of the online dating world, you’ve officially been put on notice. Tinder has today launched a new feature to help curb harassment on the popular dating app which boasts over 50 million users.

Give us a kiss, will ya love?

Tinder Reactions is the company’s answer to uncouth behaviour from male users, a move which forms part of the tech company’s latest ‘Menprovement’ program. More specifically, the program is an initiative designed to ward off sleazy hopefuls with the tap of a screen whilst simultaneously answering to more female-friendly dating apps on the market like Bumble.

The “reactions” designed by female employees of Tinder include five exclusive ones to women in the form of:

  • Really, urgh, nope
  • Martini
  • Eye roll
  • Strike
  • Ball’s in your court

Whilst the animated reactions may seem like your average emoji response, the reactions form a larger part of the message which is to make it obvious to sleazy men that they’re on thin ice (or dead in the water) without needing any real confrontation with dick pics or requests for nudes.

“Tinder Reactions are designed to give users a selection of responses that can be used at any stage of conversation, and suitable for a wide spectrum of behaviour – from a gentle nudge (say ‘ball’s in your court!’) to a warning (send an eyeroll) to a bold gesture (throw a drink in their face),” says Tinder.

“In our fast-paced world, what woman has time to respond to every act of douchery she encounters? With Reactions, you can call it out with a single tap. It’s simple. It’s sassy. It’s satisfying.”

Whilst some believe that this still won’t stop the trend of overly enthusiastic men from pushing the boundaries, it is at least a fun little warning before one resorts to the ‘Block User’ or ‘My Dad’s A Cop’ feature.

A Bachelor Pad Penthouse For The Industrial And Artsy Guy
A Bachelor Pad Penthouse For The Industrial And Artsy Guy

As the creative hub of London’s trendy East End, Shoreditch is the city’s go-to district for vintage shopping, street food, independent cinema, art, nightlife, and former industrial buildings converted into lust-worthy lofts like this one.

Designed by ‘digital construction company’ HouseUP, the spacious penthouse is a perfect pad for the sophisticated bachelor with a creative side. The space retains some of the gritty, urban edge that originally drew London’s hipsters to the neighbourhood, but dresses it up with fancy fittings and a fresh coat of paint.

First we fell for the industrial vibes. Those high ceilings. Those exposed beams. All that aged brick. HouseUP leaned fully into the aesthetic, decorating with shelving made from copper pipes and faucets that look like they came from someone’s garden. Even the mirrors are designed to reflect (sorry) the crosshatched construction of those jumbo warehouse windows.

But that’s not to say the space is bleak or unwelcoming. HouseUP successfully balanced the building’s utilitarian origins with refined furnishings and carefully selected splashes of colour. A turquoise couch in the living room provides interesting contrast to the worn leather armchairs that sit opposite. The brand new kitchen is also outfitted in blue, with gleaming white subway tiles and copper hardware. Elsewhere, dashes of rich hunter green add life to an otherwise-minimalist bedroom.

Definitely adding this one to our man cave wish list.

This Colour Dominated The Best Dressed Men Of Paris Fashion Week

It might seem obvious to some but black continues to be a staple colour way in 2017 amongst the Parisian fashion elite – men inclusive.

It is however important to note that black is a much more progressive tone these days with less focus on solids and more on pairing it with bold prints, geometric lines and designer patterns. That’s not to say the classic black looks have been completely deserted.

Sebastien Jondeau rocked up to the event in a classic black suit whilst Shota Matsuda went one further with a black coat to go with his black denim, shirt and tie. Following closely behind that was Haider Ackermann who utilised the tone with different textures and a sheen for a more broken look.

From here on in it was all about the colour clash with elements of black used in everything from shorts to knitwear to leather to turtlenecks. It wouldn’t be Parisian chic without it. The winner in our books? Japanese soccer star who pulled all the right moves and tonal shifts to do black justice.

Rezvani Shows What Happens When You Throw $150,000 Into A Jeep
Rezvani Shows What Happens When You Throw $150,000 Into A Jeep

A civilian tank is what happens. American high performance tuner and boutique automaker Rezvani have a reputation for creating radical rides and their latest effort is no different.

Looking like something straight out of your Matchbox childhood dreams and a military convoy, the Rezvani Tank is the company’s latest SUV to wear their signature design – big angular guards, big vents and raised suspension paired with serious off-road tyres. Zombie apocalypse vehicle status – achieved.

What’s even more surprising though is that the Rezvani Tank, which starts at a cool US$178,000, is actually based off a current generation US$30,000 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. As such, the Tank inherits the dash and door panels directly from the donor car. From there the car’s hardware is beefed up with the Wrangler’s V6 making way for a bigger 500hp 6.4-litre V8 inherited from FCA. Tank’s running gear is sorted with with off-road capable solid axles and selectable four-wheel-drive.

Getting into the Rezvani is accomplished via rear suicide doors which are powered so that passengers don’t need to use their arms. For the driver there’s a head-up display which can relay everything from standard car vitals to the outrageous like an exterior view via night vision camera.

With Rezvani adding ballistic armour as an option on the car, one can safely assume that this is probably a vehicle for those with lots of money and a target on their back. Like Trump or Batman.
