If there’s anything more liberating than stripping off and plunging into the most picturesque bath on earth, we’re yet to hear it.
While the above scenario, for most of us, is a non-starter until at least next year, for those unencumbered by international flight restrictions, Iceland, otherwise known as the world’s coolest influencer hotspot, is now set to open to tourists by the 15th of June.
Even better, unlike some countries, which are discussing the need for tourists to be tested before departing their home country (and if their country of residence does not have the capability to do this, you – presumably – can’t travel), Iceland plans to test tourists on arrival.
This means, unlike Greece and Sardinia’s recent plans, Iceland’s – potentially – may not depend so strongly on multilateral co-operation and the creation of a European bubble.
Or so you might think.
The catch, however, is that your home country might not allow you to travel in the first place (or at least not to come back), even if Iceland were to allow you to enter via their system. Which brings us back to where we started – the need for a travel bubble to go along with tourist testing.
That’s all speculation though.
To the known facts: Iceland’s prime minister Katrin Jakobsdottir announced on Wednesday, if all goes to plan, visitors will be tested for The Virus at the airport instead of having to undergo two week’s isolation on arrival.

On top of that, from the 15th of May (tomorrow) some professionals arriving in Iceland (scientists, filmmakers, athletes etc.) will be eligible for a “modified quarantine,” officials said.
The Icelandic government also said travellers will probably be required to use the official tracing app already in use by 40% of Icelanders.
“Iceland’s strategy of large-scale testing, tracing and isolating have proven effective so far. We want to build on that experience of creating a safe place for those who want a change of scenery after what has been a tough spring for all of us,” Thordis Kolbrun Reykfjord Gylfadottir, minister of Tourism, Industry and Innovation said.
The land of waterfalls and wild horses is coping with the current global pandemic better than many countries around the world.

As The Lonely Planet reports, “May saw Iceland recording only three reported cases of COVID19, something that makes the country cautiously optimistic that it can find a way to safely welcome visitors once again.”
“To date Iceland has had 1801 cases of COVID-19 and ten deaths.”
Iceland is not alone in its decision to encourage back tourists as soon as possible. As we reported last week, Greece, Sicily and Sardinia are currently constructing similar plans, with Sicily even offering to pay for some tourists’ flights and accommodation.

Everyone knows CrossFit is addictive. But – until now – we assumed it was due to it being a cult the social aspect. Today, however, our conception was blown out of the water as our attention was drawn to Noah Ohlsen’s Instagram account.
Noah is a CrossFit champion and the second fittest man in the world. But rather than having a chip on his shoulder, he’s got a barbell. He also has been posting some insane workouts on Instagram that are goddamn mesmerising.

First, they’ll break you, then they’ll see you crawling back for more. Why? Nothing is more addictive than results catching your neighbour perving on your triceps.
In fact, the workouts are so addictive, even the armchair experts can’t stop watching them: “My man!!!! My favorite channel to binge watch!!” reads one comment of many beneath one of Noah’s belly-stopping videos.

Everyone’s favourite chauvinist Dan Bilzerian is up to his old antics yet again. If he’s not jet setting around the world or showing off his extensive gun collection, you can usually find our Dan huddled up to some scantily clad ladies.
Some may call him a legend among men while others will cry he’s the worst of our kind, simply buying his way into the public eye with a ridiculously ripped rig to boot. What we can be sure of, is that Dan will forever be the one to show off his wealth and not give a damn about the comments he receives.
His latest exploits appeared on his Instagram story where we find Dan settled poolside at his Las Vegas mansion. And, low and behold, he’s with two bikini-clad ladies who essentially perform for Dan and the camera, with one climbing his rock wall that drops into the pool.
He adds the girl in question can’t even swim. Insta views before health and safety. Classic Bilzerian. He goes even further by giving the ladies a frickin’ jet ski to pilot around the swimming pool, showing us all how to ‘motorboat’ like a pro. If that ain’t livin’, then we don’t know what is.
Never change Dan. Social media will be a far worse place without you.

As news broke this morning that international travel officially “won’t return to normal” (as slated by the International Air Transport Association) until 2023, this chunk of tough luck also comes with a morsel of good news.
In the early hours of this morning, Emirates announced it would resume passenger flights to international hotspots at the end of May.
The Dubai based carrier (Dubai being, in normal times, one of the busiest airports in the world) took to Instagram this morning to state: “Starting from 21 May 2020, we will resume scheduled passenger flights to 9 cities in 8 countries, including connections between the UK and Australia via @DXB.”
“We look forward to reconnecting with Chicago, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Madrid, Melbourne, Milan, Paris, Sydney and Toronto.”
The Middle Eastern Carrier then said: “We are working closely with the authorities to resume flights to more destinations. The safety and wellbeing of our employees, customers and communities remain our top priority.”

While a welcome announcement, it also sparked questions around rebooking policies, with one commenter asking: “Will you be increasing the price of your flights because this is unfair towards people who have been forced to cancel and rebook like myself?”.
Though this situation is playing out across most airlines across the world, the industry response, sadly but understandably (given the airlines’ lack of liquidity) is to give flight credits valid for up to a year.
The problem is, flights are likely to be far more expensive next year, and so international travel is now set to shift, at least for the next few years, to something akin to the Exclusive Age of the 90s and 2000s when only the rich were able to jet-set.
As for Emirates’ latest announcement: for the next few months, at least, it’s academic for those of us in Australia, for whom international travel looks off the cards at least until next year.
Anyway, this comes after Emirates became the first airline to undertake pre-flight testing for The Virus. It also comes a day after Etihad (one of Emirates’ primary competitors) announced flights of its own between Sydney and London.
Before the current situation, Emirates was one of the main veins of travel connecting Oceania with Europe. However, since the crisis unfurled, Emirates and Etihad were both forced to shut up (commercial) shop due to government restrictions (as did Qantas and British Airways).
This left Qatar Airways, for a time, as the only airline connecting the two hemispheres. That is no longer the case. Now, though government restrictions make the following suggestion exceedingly unlikely, Southern hemisphere citizens have multiple airlines to help them, if they are able to escape their place of residence for a European summer holiday, in the coming months, to shoot off to The Old World.
If you are one of the lucky few, you’ll be met with plenty of options, with hotspots like Greece, Sicily and Tuscany all doing their best to re-open to tourists as early as June.

Forget the hipsters, Byron Bay is still the ultimate getaway – if you know where to look.
And while there’s nothing wrong with a dishevelled hostel or cheap Airbnb, these epic hotels and accommodation will lend a certain sheen to your stay that you’ll be sure to look back on fondly (money doesn’t buy happiness, but good memories sure can go a long way).

28 Degrees Byron Bay
Barefoot luxury at its finest, 28 degrees Byron Bay allows you to soak up Australia’s easternmost point in comfort-drenched style. All rooms feature a king bed with organic linen, a private ensuite, air-conditioning, heating and wifi, which makes them as appropriate for a ‘babymoon’ (or honeymoon) as they are for ‘digital nomads’ looking to work in style. Whether you’re after a room with a private garden and plunge pool (for the ultimate relaxation experience) or a Main Master with lighthouse views, 28 degrees has something for you. Best suited to couples, this resort is a true oasis every city slicker needs in their life.
Halcyon House
Aptly named Australia’s most unique beachside property, Halcyon House is a boutique stay to keep your eye on. Fashioned by Ana Spiro, an eclectic interior designer, Halcyon House is synonymous with antique furniture, fabric upholstered walls, luxurious king size beds and private balconies. Located right on Cabarita beach, about a 40 minute drive north of Byron (15 minutes south of the Gold Coast), this getaway epitomises the Australian coastal holiday spirit: welcoming, relaxed, comfy.
Raes On Wategos
An exclusive boutique retreat with a price to match, Raes on Wategos is a luxe Byron Bay stay in an even more luxurious beachfront setting. With eight deluxe free-standing villas set back mere metres from Belongil beach and creek, a stay here means indulging in facilities like unlimited in house movies, premium bedroom and ensuite accessories, and tailored full body spa experiences.
Blackbird Byron
Nestled roughly 40-minutes away in Mullumbimby Creek, you’ll find Blackbird Byron, a luxurious bed and breakfast that puts you right in the heart of Byron hinterland. Rooms come in the form of a small collection of pavilions, each of which is capable of sleeping two people and each positioned to take full benefit of the expansive views on offer. With champagne and olives on arrival, wine & cheese boards and chocolates all included in the room price, a Magnesium infinity pool and acres of hinterland to go exploring in, Blackbird is the ultimate luxury retreat.
The Bower
The Bower only received its naming in 2019 following a huge makeover of what used to be a former motel. The site now occupies a 14-suite – plus a barn, a cottage (which sleeps 10) and a family house – boutique hotel that is essentially a hybrid mash-up of a beachfront motel and New York-inspired boutique accommodation. Rooms are decorated with locally-sourced ornaments and products, such as I Love Linen bedspreads, to give them a premium, yet completely laid-back beach-chic vibe.
Elevation – Air BnB
Grab yourself a few friends and book yourself into the absolute palace that is Elevation. A short stroll away from the centre of Byron Bay town, Elevation comprises four bedrooms (sleeping up to 8), 3.5 bathrooms and its own pool and jacuzzi. It’s unequivocally modern in its aesthetic, with lashings of charcoal and white, along with several panes of floor to ceiling glass, and will serve as a hub for a relaxed (or not-so, as the case may be) stay in Byron.

We all like to enjoy a glass of something at the end of the working day or with mates at the weekend, but it can become all too easy to stay loyal to a particular brand. While it’s fair to say you know what you like and what you don’t, it also means your alcoholic horizons can be limited.
The Whisky Mill is, therefore, the service you need to start experiencing new tastes and to expose yourself to the wonders that whisky can behold. The online bar of wonders – which launches on World Whisky Day this Saturday 16th May – is the brainchild of Cameron Northway and Jared Plummer of Australia’s first home cocktail delivery service The Cocktail Porter and Sydney-based specialist drinks agency Sweet&Chilli respectively,
The Whisky Mill offers customers an expertly curated selection of “some of the rarest and most sought-after tipples internationally.” It’s not just a case of seeing something expensive and assuming it’s good, either, as some of Australia’s most experienced whisky specialists have been brought on board to help choose the whiskeys, which cater not only to those who already know a thing or two about popular spirit but newcomers as well.
Anyone who signs up to the service can get a package comprising four, 50ml bottles delivered directly to their door, along with recommended food pairings and printed tasting notes, and can even benefit from a one-hour virtual tasting from a resident expert.
‘Rarest and most sought-after’ doesn’t necessarily have to translate to ‘expensive’, either, as The Whisky Mill ranges bottles from $92.99 but can stretch up to $6,000 for those who feel like treating themselves. Expect to find Limited Worldwide editions and Special Releases, along with some whiskeys that have been aged up to 40 years old.
And to whet your whistle even more, distilleries include Talisker, Port Ellen, The Cally and Clynelish.
The guys mean it when they say they know their stuff.
What’s more, once the quarantine restrictions are lifted, The Whisky Mill even plans to hold private dinner events, tastings and masterclasses so you can improve your whisky knowledge tenfold, as well as giving your tastebuds the ultimate party.
