We’d all like to appear more attractive than we really are – especially now that Instagram is the new Tinder. However, judging by many of the woeful profiles out there, it seems many men don’t understand this Brave New World. The two main problems? One: a prudish lack of mirror selfies. And two: a complete overload. But there is a solution and it comes in the form of Jared Leto: an actor, singer, songwriter and – more importantly – the man who bought bumbags back from the sartorial grave American tourists put them in.Leto has an Instagram presence of 10.2 million followers. But it’s not just his fans whose hearts he melts: he has dated Cameron Diaz, Scarlett Johansson, Ashley Olsen, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and, as the tabloids would say, “many more.”

While owning a face (and abdominals) that would put Legolas to shame helps too, another key to Jared Leto’s aesthetic success is his ability to lay the perfect thirst trap. For the uninitiated, a thirst trap is a picture you post when you are feeling attractive (i.e. ‘felt cute, might delete later’), in order to gauge which of your followers would like to bed you.

As with most things, balance is key. Come on too strong and it will look like you just broke up. Come on too weak and it will appear you are about to head off on a silent retreat. On that note: a picture explains a thousand thirsts, so instead of waffling on we’ll show you a few of Leto’s best examples, and let you be the judge. From embracing your sporty vibes…

Less than one week after Odell Beckham Jnr. drew the ire of the NFL for flaunting a $425,000 Richard Mille Watch on the Cleveland Browns season-opening against the Tennesse Titans, the superstar receiver has worn a uber-rare piece worth 100,000 times that. The NFL reached out to OBJ following his opening game warning him against wearing jewellery on field, despite not having a specific policy against it.
Beckham Jnr. said he was targeted due to his reputation and that his watch choices shouldn’t be a problem.
“If anybody else would’ve worn the watch, or if it was a $20 watch, it wouldn’t have been no problem.”
As a middle finger to the NFL, OBJ strapped on the Richard Mille RM 56-02 Tourbillion Sapphire watch retailing at US$2.2 million (AU$3.21 million) at warmup prior to the Cleveland Browns versus New York Jets game at MetLife Stadium.
The sapphire watch is one of only 10 ever made and has to be milled and ground from solid sapphire pieces and any mistake can result in the entire piece cracking. A single case takes engineers working 24/7 40 days to create and in total the man-hours for a single piece are 1,350 hours.
The watch comes as no surprise for the flashy star who rocked up to stadium flexing a Louis Vuitton by Virgil Abloh suit with matching white leather sneakers.

OBJ ended up removing the watch prior to a great game where he scored an 89 yard touchdown and clocked the fastest run by a player this year at 34.9 kilometres per hour.

We’d all like Lebron James’ abs but the reality is often a lot more flabby. And while some people (read: us) like to tell themselves this is all because they don’t have a team of personal trainers and nutritionists at their disposal, the truth is; all the information you need on how to reach peak physical fitness is available online.
You just need to know how to find it.
Enter: Max Lugavere, an acclaimed New York Times health and science journalist whose book “Genius Foods” and no bull insights has led him to command a following of 333k people on Instagram, where he uses everything he has learnt in the nutrition space to coach people into eating better – and bust popular myths like “you can’t eat too much healthy fat.”
Case in point: a recent post, in which he rectifies a common problem with butter-coffee drinking low-carb dieters, admitting that Keto advocates are right not to eschew fat, but wrong to tip the scales (literally) in the other direction.
“Don’t fear fat but also maybe don’t drink it either,” he begins the post, explaining how, “Many people today add fat to their diets via buttery coffee, coconut oil smoothies, or ‘fat bomb’ desserts forgetting that fat doesn’t get a calorie free pass, even when you’re on a ketogenic diet!”
“If you have fat you’d like to lose, chill with the added fat,” he adds. “Instead, make sure you’re getting enough protein and healthy veggies! Because when you consume fat, your body will want to burn off what you just ate! (Last in, first out!)”
He then goes through some of the foods which contain healthy fats (extra virgin olive oil, steak eggs and avocado for the win!), before leaving his low carb friends with one final piece of food for thought.
“For my keto friends, remember: you can be in DEEP ketosis without consuming any fat whatsoever. Fat doesn’t create ketones (other than MCTs). Low insulin does, which is a result of fasting or reducing carbs. Add fat for satiety and to meet calorie needs, but not because you were told by an instagram influencer you needed to AdD mOrE FaT.”
Put that on your plate and eat it…

David Beckham has popularised a number of trends in his time as a footballing star cum style icon. From his finely-tailored Wimbledon get-ups to his now ubiquitous ‘lazy dad suits‘ Golden Balls has done it all – or so we thought.Turns out we were wrong; David Beckham yesterday rocked what is set to be next year’s big thing (relaxed, double-breasted suits) to a celebratory cocktail party for his wife Victoria Beckham’s new partnership with Harry’s Bar of Birley Clubs, during London Fashion Week. Why next year’s big thing, you ask? Well, while the cashed-up and style-conscious among us might get our mitts on it now, it generally takes the more affordable retailers about 6 months to catch up with the likes of Dior (and for those less in the know to be Instagram-prompted into the look).RELATED: The Best Suit Brands Dominating Today’s Sartorial GameThis came after appearing at his wife Victoria’s fashion show earlier that day with the whole family, in a Tailleur Oblique wool serge suit by Dior.https://www.instagram.com/p/B2c2hpyA01p/He then changed into what appears to be another Dior offering, this time of a wider, more fashion-forward style, in the form of a soft blue double-breasted suit, worn over a white crew-neck t-shirt and white canvas high-tops.In this world of tightly tailored trousers and novelty socks, we’re calling it a win. However, even though it is unique, it hasn’t come out of no-where. In fact, this suit is something you (and Beckham) would have seen on the Giorgio Armani catwalk over the years. And with its relaxed fit, this look is perfect both for balmy nights and sun-drenched days.Wider than yo mumma, and perfect for the shoulder seasons of autumn and spring, this style move is ideal for anyone who knows how to rock wide-leg trousers.
Still not convinced? If you need more proof this look is, as the Instagram-kids say, “where it’s at” then check out OBJ wearing a very wide affair from Louis Vuitton.https://www.instagram.com/p/B2c7tcaAGfm/?igshid=e841kkfbse3dWe’d assume he is going to one of his games, and hope that with the confidence those wide-legged bad boys so amply provide, he plays better this week.As for Beckham: let’s just say that if he keeps pushing the bar like this then the Queen may have no choice but to give him the sartorial knighthood he deserves.

Running won’t help you lose weight; weights will. This idea has become hugely popular over the last few years. However, a new study presented at the 2019 ECNP Congress in Copenhagen has shown that – if you want to maintain (or increase) your cognitive abilities – you’d better persist with that bloody treadmill.
While it’s no secret that exercise can help clear your mind and improve your mood, it has never been conclusively linked to boosting your brainpower. That may now be set to change after a group of German scientists have just discovered that keeping yourself physically fit is also associated with better brain structure and functioning in young adults.
The research team believe their findings suggest that if you improve your physical fitness, it may enhance your working memory and give your better problem-solving abilities. Published in the Nature Research journal, the scientists set out to build upon the existing literature which – up until now – has focussed on the effect exercise has on mood and behaviour, not brain structure and mental functioning.
View this post on Instagram
To do this, the researchers used a publicly accessible database of 1,206 MRI scans, taken from the Human Connectome Project, a volunteer program in which people contributed their MRIs to a database for the purpose of scientific research, and of which the average volunteer age was 30-years-old.
To counteract variables previous studies have failed to take into account, the researchers tested MRI volunteers for their existing physical fitness, memory, reasoning, sharpness, and judgment.
“The great strength of this work is the size of the database. Normally when you are dealing with MRI work, a sample of 30 is pretty good, but the existence of this large MRI database allowed us to eliminate possibly misleading factors, and strengthened the analysis considerably,” said team leader Dr Jonathan Repple, of University Hospital Muenster, Germany.
The first significant finding was that researchers found young, healthy adults who were able to walk the farthest distances within two minutes scored the highest on the cognitive performance tests. Adding to this, the fittest participants also displayed better structural integrity of white matter (a substance which helps improve the speed and quality of interconnecting cerebral nerves).
“It surprised us to see that even in a young population cognitive performance decreases as fitness levels drops,” Dr Repple said. “We knew how this might be important in an elderly population which does not necessarily have good health, but to see this happening in 30-year-olds is surprising.”
“This leads us to believe that a basic level of fitness seems to be a preventable risk factor for brain health.”
As reported by Study Finds, “Moving forward, the research team want to continue investigating the effects of physical fitness on brain functioning. More specifically, they would like to examine changes in brain structure and performance among people who were unfit but then got themselves into better shape.”
Or, as Dr Repple puts it, “This type of study raises an important question. We see that fitter people have better brain health, so we now need to ask whether actually making people fitter will improve their brain health. Finding this out is our next step. There are some trials which point in that direction, but if we can prove this using such a large database, this would be very significant”.

If flying business-class is like spending the night in an overpriced discotheque (purple lights and all) then flying first-class is like ~vibing~ at a bespoke cocktail bar: still hedonistic, but a little more private.
That’s the stereotype, anyway. But what most people don’t realise is that the retreat-like feels are just the tip of the first-class iceberg.
Anyhow: in a climate where newcomers to the Pointy End Cone Of Trust revel in exposing the indiscretions of business-class stalwarts, it’s no wonder cashed-up flyers are opting for ever more private business-class suites or – better yet – making the jump to first.
RELATED: Score Up To 150,000 Membership Rewards Points When You Sign Up For An American Express Platinum Card
However, even as this happens, fiscal business travellers still mock the first-class heathens who spend tens of thousands of dollars for an extra metre squared between the edge of their bed and the wall of their suite (and to eat a slightly but not significantly better meal than the one they would be served in business-class).
Why? Previously we’d have said Tall Poppy Syndrome. But it has recently come to our attention that there are a number of advantages to flying first-class that you don’t truly appreciate until you actually do it.
View this post on Instagram
In fact, first-hand observations from our editor-at-large, Luc Wiesman, as well as a recent back and forth we had with British Airways suggests that – despite the vast work of literature to the contrary – flying first is as much of a step up from business as business is a step up from economy.
So, even though there is less of a visible “lie-flat vs. knee-crunching” difference, there are some crucial advantages to flying first-class over business-class that those who have never experienced it (myself included) love to knock.
Today we’re here to rectify this; listing of all the reasons it’s worth it to fly first-class over business-class, particularly internationally.
View this post on Instagram
It’s less stressful
If the sweaty suit yelling at a flight attendant that he ought to be boarding before the elderly couples and mothers with young children so graciously demonstrated to us recently, flying business-class is no guarantee that you – nor those around you – will keep their cool while travelling.
While business-class spares you some of the indignities of air travel, you’re still left to dwell for hours on your chicken edamame sandwich in the case of a delay, and – shock, horror – occasionally have to board with, not before, economy passengers with medical conditions, or – in the case of Qatar Airways’ A380s – with Economy passengers who have pre-selected one of the economy seats on the plane’s top deck.
If you’re flying first-class, however, this is all a non-issue.
It gives you the chance to network
On first-class, even if your flight is indefinitely delayed, or even you arrive at your destination to find your luggage has been dispatched to The North Pole, you’ll be too busy networking with industry big wigs and being shouted tax-payer-funded drinks by corrupt politicians to have an existential chicken edamame crisis.
It gives you a more streamlined airport experience
Some airlines will send a chauffer, others might send a chopper, but either way, flying first-class culls the boring bits of air travel. For instance, as British Airways recently told us, flying first-class out of London with them gives you exclusive access to the airline’s First Wing, which features a private check-in area leading through to dedicated security lanes, which grant customers direct access to British Airways’ prestigious First Lounges.
It gives you a license to be helpless
As British Airways recently told us, the pre-flight experience of a first-class BA passenger is quite different from the pre-flight experience of a BA business-class passenger (as it is across the vast majority of the world’s top Airlines). Chief among these differences, in our eyes, is your license to be helpless.
How so? Well not only do you get access to Heathrow’s Galleries First Lounge and The Concorde Room, which is exclusive for First customers and provides work and entertainment zones, waiter service dining (before some flights) and a la carte menus with a wide range of champagnes and wines, but you also get a dedicated help desk called You First for any queries regarding Concorde room facilities, Elemis spa treatments or any other travel queries.
It gives you a license to be messy
As we mentioned earlier, with the proliferation of Tweet-happy journalists and impertinent Instagram addicts, first-class flyers, from unicorn startup owners to international diplomats, can sprawl back without being judged for skipping straight to the sports page of their newspapers or for their remarkable ability to sink whisky and salted peanuts.
The entertainment is better
As British Airways recently told us, they are now exclusively trialling a new virtual reality headset where customers travelling on select flights in First from London Heathrow to New York JFK will be able to enjoy a selection of award-winning films, documentaries and travel programmes in 2D, 3D or 360° formats. While this is yet to be rolled out everywhere (and while it is specific to BA), we have noticed everyone from Etihad to Emirates have their own equivalent ‘level up’ entertainment systems for first-class flyers.
It gives you more leisure time
While business-class gives you this too, we’d argue you get an even better night’s sleep (so long as you don’t fall into the Adrian Wooldridge trap) in first-class, which can save you days of jetlag.
Hedonism rewires your brain; in a good way
While the scientific jury is still out on this, studies have shown hedonism can be good for your health and – though we’re hardly psychologists – we’ve found there are few problems that can’t be solved by swilling a punchy single malt at 40,000ft.
The only problem is when you wake up to find your solutions are gibberish. But hey: that’s a problem for another day.
