How To Stand Out Sartorially When You DON'T Have Big Dollars To Spend
How To Stand Out Sartorially When You DON'T Have Big Dollars To Spend

It’s often said that men are peacocks, if that were the case, then some Australian men would be considered to be the most lacklustre peacocks around. This makes for the perfect opportunity to make a fashion statement. With racing season soon starting down-under, we thought we’d start out with suit accessories. Once you’ve followed our guide to pick out the perfect getup, refer to the tips below for some ideas to really catch the eye of some prospective hens.

Lapel Flower

It’s no secret that girls like flowers, with this in mind it’d be a good idea to try fitting one to your suit. These days, most well-made blazers have a real button hole in the collar, a perfect spot to pop in a posy. Try something bright, cheerful and with a pleasant aroma. TIP: You can often pick these up very cheap online at eBay. Buy a few and keep them for special events.

Tie Pins & Bars

I’m a massive fan of tie pins. Mainly because I’m prone to getting my tie snagged or stuck in anything. Keeping a tie secure and looking sharp isn’t hard with a bar or stud pin. These days tie pins come in all shapes and sizes but if you’re a traditionalist stick to a sold metal bar. Ensure the tie clip is not winder then the tie.

Braces

Suspenders or braces are a perfect way to keep your pants up, and they also eliminate the need for a belt. This is good news for guys with a bit more meat on their bones whom dislike the obligatory pot belly protrusion when buckling up. Also note that girls love playing around with the straps.

Contrast Buttons

By now most of you should be familiar with the simplicity of sewing on a button to a jacket or other piece of clothing. Perhaps try replacing your current suit buttons with something with a bit more colour or contrast to show off some individuality. Horn or Metal looks particularly good.

Pocket Square

Pocket squares are nothing new, in fact they’re centuries old. No longer used for wiping noses, they are the perfect way to bring a dash of colour and class to an outing. Have fun with folding them in different ways and soon you will find that a suit without a square is almost bare. We recommend opting for quality silk or linen pocket squares – the look and feel much better than the cheap and nasty versions.

Huawei Could Be Blocked From Australia's 5G Network Over National Security Concerns
Huawei Could Be Blocked From Australia's 5G Network Over National Security Concerns
Huawei’s Mate 10 smartphone

Huawei, the world’s second biggest smartphone manufacturer placed between Samsung and Apple is facing fresh controversy in Australia’s telecommunications landscape.

The government could potentially ban the Chinese telecommunications giant from taking part in the development of the country’s rapid 5G mobile network over national security concerns. If this happens it would be a major setback for Huawei which had already been blocked from tendering for the National Broadband Network (NBN) back in 2012.

The 5G network is a Fifth Generation mobile network technology that promises to bring increased connection speeds that eclipses the current 4G network. In real world application, the 5G network will support an array of modern innovations such as self-driving cars which require access to high-speed mobile data – the kind of data which the Federal Government doesn’t want falling into the wrong hands.

Huawei was founded in 1987 by Ren Zhengfei, an ex-People’s Liberation Army officer and Chinese businessman who is currently worth US$2.8 billion. His company is also privately owned by its employees under a complex shareholding system.

China’s President Xi Jinping and Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei

Just last month the Australian Financial Review reported that the newly formed Department of Home Affairs would conduct a national security assessment of the company. Under the new legislation the Federal Government will possess the power to instruct mobile carriers to take further action in protecting their networks against security breaches.

More specifically, the department outlined that “the Government is aware that the adoption of new technologies like 5G may introduce new threats and vulnerabilities”.

The Australian spokesman for Huawei Australia rebuked the claims and said that its 5G technology was not a security risk.

“We are committed to openness and transparency in everything we do,” the statement read.

Fergus Hanson from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute told the ABC that there should be concern over using Huawei’s technology to build Australia’s 5G networks.

“Let’s say for example there’s a war. China decides to invade Taiwan, and then Australia suddenly becomes a hostile adversary,” Hanson said.

“[China] can switch their intent, and therefore harness these tools that they’ve got sitting there latently. Even if we believe in Huawei’s independence, at any point it could be forced under the control of the Chinese Government.”

Today also sees Huawei Australia announcing its new CTO for local operations, “5G expert” Dr David Soldani formerly of Nokia. Soldani will spearhead the Australian branch as the industry readies itself for the future rollout of 5G technology.

Huawei Australia CEO George Huang told ZDnet that “Huawei are also very happy to work with the government”.

“We are quite open to discuss anything with the government.”

Australia’s 5G network will form a major part of the country’s core infrastructure down the line as users continue to demand faster mobile internet for business and personal use.

The Macallan's 60-Year-Old Whisky That Will Set You Back $700,000

“The exceptional calibre of the whisky combined with the wonderful artwork from two towering figures of 20th century pop art – Peter Blake and Valerio Adami – represent a unique marriage of excellence.”

“Only 24 of these bottles were produced and the sale is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for collectors to acquire the holy grail of Macallan.”

This latest round of expensive vintage whisky is further proof that whisky investment funds and whisky cryptocurrencies are here to stay.

Why You Need To Eat Fat In Order To Lose Weight
Why You Need To Eat Fat In Order To Lose Weight

Our quality of life is determined by the quality of our thoughts, how we choose to fuel our bodies, and how well we move. Yet we are a society filled with negativity, fast food and apathetic attitudes. As a Former Special Forces Soldier and now fitness advocate I am constantly trying to educate people on how to correctly look after their physical and mental health, but the one question I get most is, “Scott, what do I eat?”

Debunking The Myths

Say what now?
For breakfast everyday I have 4 Eggs, 2 rasher bacon, ½ an avocado and a cup of kale – oh, and an espresso of course. For years the food industry shunned eating any form of fats, pushing the low fat diet in our faces. We ate fat-free carbohydrates, which, in turn, made us hungrier and then heavier than ever. As a nation we are currently the fattest we have ever been and dying of food related diseases. Quit listening to the billion dollar food industry and listen to the facts I am going to give you about eating a high fat diet for weight loss, and general health and wellbeing. If you want to perform at your peak, have a shredded physique, and have enough energy to train the house down then it’s time you switch your body from using carbohydrates as fuel to a fat-burning machine.

Fats Improves Insulin Sensitivity & Accelerates Fat Burning

Fighting The Good Fat
Your body requires a decent amount of fat to stay lean. Decreasing your carb intake and replacing it with healthy fats can improve your insulin sensitivity, reduce inflammation, and support your metabolism. The primary role of insulin is to regulate blood-sugar levels. Insulin acts like a switch, after eating within the first few hours you burn carbohydrates for energy and store the extra calories as fat. When the switch is off, and insulin depleted, you begin to burn fat as fuel.Put simply, if you keep your insulin levels low you will be burning your own body fat. So switching out the high starchy carbs for a high fat alternative means accelerated fat burning. Our bodies were never designed to eat high starches or sugars. Grain products and concentrated sugars used to be absent from human nutrition.

Fat Crushes Food Cravings & Fill You Up For Longer

Stay full for longer
There’s nothing worse than eating a lower calorie diet that leaves you hungry all the time. Eating high healthy fat foods will fill you up for longer. Pair them up with a good dose of protein and it will curb your hunger and cravings substantially.Insulin greatly affects how hungry you feel; it causes hunger by lowering your blood sugar. When you get too much insulin, your blood sugar drops and you will get ravenously hungry. This can lead to you consuming to much food and gaining weight.RELATED: Researchers Say The ‘Fat But Fit’ Theory Is A MythWhen you eat foods like white bread and potatoes they will spike your blood sugar levels with a surge of insulin within minutes so the resulting rush of insulin stores the blood sugar away for hours later, causing your blood sugar to be lower than before you ate. This is when your body begins to think it has run out of fuel, but the insulin is still enough to prevent you from burning your own fat. The end result is hunger and a craving for more carbohydrates.

Fats Balance Hormones

A balanced fat intake can do wonders
Estrogen, testosterone, adrenaline and insulin are extremely important chemical massagers that affect many aspects of your overall health. The endocrine system works together to control the level of hormones circulating your body. Eating a variety of foods high in short, medium and long-chain fatty acids is key to keeping your hormones in check.Your body needs various types of fats to create hormones, including saturated fat and cholesterol. Not only are these essential fats fundamental building blocks for hormone production, but they keep inflammation levels low, boost your metabolism and promote weight loss and greater overall muscle gain.RELATED: The Truth About Peptide Use For Building MusclesAt the end of the day, the body will adapt to what fuel source it is given, there is no decline in performance if you’re on a high fat diet as compared to a high carb diet. Whatever you may believe to have read in the past, do some more research and find out the facts. I choose to eat a greater proportion of my calories from fat to help me achieve optimal body composition and positive metabolic adaptions. Not only will it help you stay lean, it will enhance your immune system, keep your bones healthy, provide energy and structural integrity for cells, protect the liver and enhance the body’s use of essential fatty acids. You wouldn’t put crap fuel in your Ferrari so why not start treating your body the same way?

Italian Playboy Gianluca Vacchi's New Tattoo Takes Narcissism To A New Level

We all know (and love) the Italian mega millionaire, Gianluca Vacchi. The endless stream of Instagram posts that show off his lavish lifestyle, woman, yachts and now DJing gigs around the world are a constant source of entertainment. When you’re worth $450 million you’re going to do things differently, so differently in-fact that his next tattoo is of none other than himself.

Yes, you heard right. Gianluca’s new tattoo across his back is a portrait of himself doing the ‘shh’ gesture. His latest Instagram post showed off the art with this very straight explanation.

When people talk inappropriately, they would do better investing that time on them and not in stupid criticism…this has always been the story of my life, but at the end unnecessary criticism has always had to stay quiet and shut the fuck up….enjoy, we just have one life

Will his new tattoo be enough to hush those criticising the millionaire / playboy / author / dancer / DJ? Unlikely, it’s probably like throwing jet-fuel on a fire. Regardless we’re happy to watch The People vs. Gianluca Vacchi show continue. For the sake of our enjoyment, we hope Gianluca never changes. Amen.

'The Unicorn' Of Rolex Daytonas Will Be Auctioned With A $3 Million Opening Bid
'The Unicorn' Of Rolex Daytonas Will Be Auctioned With A $3 Million Opening Bid

When a timepiece is nicknamed ‘The Unicorn’, you can guarantee that there’ll be a staggering price to match.

This Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 6265 is the elusive watch in question. Believed to be the only one of its kind in the world, its rarity stems from the fact that its case is made entirely from white gold – many believed that Rolex only ever made the iconic Daytona in yellow gold or stainless steel variants.

The watch left the factory in 1970 and found its way to a German retailer in 1971 before coming into the possession of John Goldberger, the owner who previously said that he would never sell the watch.

Thankfully for some lucky collector with deep pockets, Goldberger changed his mind in the name of charity and ‘The Unicorn’ will finally be heading to the Geneva-based auction house, Phillips, on May 12. The entire proceed from the sale will go to the Children Action foundation which specialises in working with suicide prevention and healthcare access alongside children from around the world.

Only time will tell if this rare piece of horology will top Paul Newman’s Daytona as the most expensive watch ever sold.

Now who said you can’t feel good about dropping $3 million dollars on a watch?

Stephen Hawking Dies Peacefully At The Age 76

Stephen Hawking, the modern world’s most renowned physicist has passed away at the age of 76. British media confirmed the news via a statement from Hawking’s family which revealed that he died peacefully in the early hours of the morning in his Cambridge home.

“His family have kindly requested that they be given the time and privacy to mourn his passing, but they would like to thank everyone who has been by Professor Hawking’s side – and supported him – throughout his life,” read the statement.

His three children including Lucy, Robert and Tim all shared their sorrow of their father’s passing.

“He once said, ‘it would not be much of a universe if it wasn’t home to the people you love’. We will miss him forever.”

Hawking is renowned for tackling some of the universe’s biggest mysteries and complex scientific phenomenons. Despite his diagnosis with motor neurone disease in 1963 which gave him two years to live, Hawking survived against the odds to become one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists since Albert Einstein.

He’d also become the successor to Isaac Newton as a Lucasian Professor at the University of Cambridge and leave behind an illustrious legacy respected by millions around the world.

One of his most famous quotes was:
“We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special.”
