Conor McGregor Does The One Thing You Should Never Do With A Luxury Watch
Conor McGregor Does The One Thing You Should Never Do With A Luxury Watch

Conor McGregor has one of the most lavish luxury watch collections on the planet, but unlike many watch collectors, he’s fairly cavalier about when and where he wears them. From aggressive workouts while wearing his fragile $1 million Jacob & Co. dress watch to jetskiing with his diamond-encrusted Rolex, the outspoken Irish MMA champ really doesn’t give a f*ck about the manufacturer’s recommendations when it comes to appropriate timepiece usage. But his latest act of horological hubris might have finally made the penny drop.Invited to throw the ceremonial first pitch at a baseball game between the Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins, ‘The Notorious’ stepped up to the mound wearing a hefty rose gold Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph, which he’s apparently broken due to the intensity of his curveball. The photo of the pitch, which you can see above, is almost cartoonish: the watch was so loose on McGregor’s wrist that it ricocheted out like a rubber band as he goes to throw. The pitch completely missed, too, leading many online to ridicule McGregor, comparing his terrible attempt to rapper 50 Cent’s legendarily bad first pitch back in 2014.It underlines an important point that many watch buyers don’t fully appreciate: you should never play sports like baseball while wearing a mechanical watch, as it’s a sure-fire way to break it.

Images: @thenotoriousmma / Patek Philippe
Mechanical watches might be able to withstand intense air or water pressure fluctuations and still keep reliable time, but exposing them to a quick, intense spike in G-forces like those your wrist endures during a baseball pitch is more than enough to cook one. (Conor is left-handed and was wearing his Patek on his left hand, which is probably why he damaged it.) Other sports that are likely to damage a watch for similar reasons include boxing, darts, tennis or surfing.RELATED: Sally Fitzgibbons Wears Most Unlikely Watch Surfing Western AustraliaIt’s also true for golf swings, which is why it was such a big deal when Richard Mille came out with the RM 055 Manual Winding Bubba Watson signature model for the namesake American pro golfer – a mechanical watch that could withstand the shock of a PGA Tour-winning swing. As for the commentary online about the pitch – especially the comparison with 50 Cent’s – it clearly got up McGregor’s nose, as he went on a legendary rant on Instagram about the whole thing.“The audacity to compare mine with this piss! Picture to picture alone buries this. Mine, bar the accuracy, was the most powerful and fastest first pitch of any of these other athletes/artists over the years. No comparison. Smoke them up and down that Forbes I do. Get Messi over. Smoked. Cris. Smoked. Federer. Doubled. All-time most power! Put me in the Wrigley Hall of Fame for that rocket launch…”

“The gold bar [that was my] Patek almost came flying off me it was that fast and powerful. I’d take it back to Patek Philippe for adjusting but this watch is now discontinued. A rare. I bought [it] for $80k at Weir & Sons of Ireland and today it is worth close to $500k. And going up.”

“50 has a nice Hublot, too. [A] Big Bang. Small bucks, 50 Cent. One has power. One is the director of media relations for some show called Power. You know what it is.”[Video] Check out some of Conor McGregor’s other outrageous watches below

Jeez, there’s a lot to unpack there.Braggadocio aside, if he actually bought the watch for ‘only’ $80k, that means it’s actually been a rather good investment. While $500k is a bit of an exaggeration, the watch has indeed significantly appreciated, with most examples going for around US$300k (we’re assuming he’s talking US dollars). Not sure how much you’d get for a damaged one, though…

Formula 1 Driver Carlos Sainz Jr’s Canine Leg Workout Will Leave You Feeling Ruff
Formula 1 Driver Carlos Sainz Jr’s Canine Leg Workout Will Leave You Feeling Ruff

Carlos Sainz Jr has just come out with a leg workout, performed during the break in the Formula One calendar, that will seriously test the strength of your pins.

If you’re someone who has a 9-5 job, you may often find it difficult to keep up with a regular workout routine. Sure, you could go first thing in the morning, or even on your way home from work – there is much evidence to suggest both of these have their respective benefits with regards to how they make you feel – but what about when your job is a little bit more intense?

Take Formula One drivers, for example. Save from a month-long break in the middle of the racing calendar, these drivers are either spending their weekends racing, or the rest of the week getting involved with the setup of their cars. And if they’re not spending time with their engineers, they’re likely required to participate in PR duties or get into talks about potential sponsorships. Basically, finding the time to get into a gym, even for them, is not as easy as it might seem.

But of course, it requires incredible fitness in order to be an F1 driver, and to be able to withstand the G-forces placed upon them during races. So, any chance they can find to workout, they have to take. Case in point: Carlos Sainz Jr.

The Spanish racer – currently a member of team Scuderia Ferrari – recently showed off how he would normally work out during the summer break, but now it’ls back to racing, he’s chosen to enlist the use of his dog in order to continue his quest for gains. Taking to Instagram, the racing youngster posted a video of himself using his canine friend Piñón to perform some front squats.

Watch Sainz squatting with ‘Piñón’ in the video below

He accompanied the unconventional workout video with the caption: “Didn’t skip leg day on the weekend. Piñón was there to give me a hand.” While it’s easy to get distracted by the smiling face of his dog, clearly loving life, we couldn’t help but notice how Carlos has his form pretty spot on, considering he’s not using a conventional barbell or set of dumbbells.

Front squats are a fantastic exercise to add to your lower body workout routines, or even a full-body routine, since they’re a compound movement. Instead of placing weight across your shoulders, behind your neck, as you would with a back squat, the front squat sees you place the weight in front of your body. Not only do they build up strength in your quads, hamstrings and glutes, they also torch your core, since you need to engage it to help stabilise yourself and prevent yourself from tipping forward.

While you certainly can perform front squats with the help of a dog, you’re more likely to perform them using a barbell or dumbbells. Here’s how to perform them:

Start with a barbell at around mid-chest height on a squat rack. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and hands placed on the bar slightly wider than that. Twist your arms under the bar so that it is resting at your fingertips, with your elbows pointing forwards. The bar should rest on your shoulders, and your fingertips are there to just keep it in place.

If you find it difficult to bring your elbows up so that they are pointing forward, you may need to stretch out your lat muscles, which you can do so by performing dead hangs or some resistance band lat stretches. You can also stretch your wrists by getting onto all fours, with your hands flat on the floor, and rocking forwards and backwards.

With the bar resting on your shoulders, tuck your pelvis in, brace your core, take a deep breath in and squat down. Imagine you’re sitting down on a chair, to help prevent your knees from going too far over your toes. Ensure your knees push out as you squat down. You want to get as deep as possible to put as much tension on your quads and glutes as you can. Power back up and exhale at the top of the movement.

Perform 3 or 4 sets of these with 5 – 8 reps per set, and you’ll build up the strength in your lower body in no time.

Why Australian Home Buyers Shouldn’t Be Scared Off By ‘The Hemsworth Effect’
Why Australian Home Buyers Shouldn’t Be Scared Off By ‘The Hemsworth Effect’

We all know the Australian property market is stupid. Both Sydney and Melbourne rank in the top ten least affordable places to buy a house in the world (#3 and #6, if you’re curious), and other cities such as Hobart and Canberra are also starting to feel the crunch. On top of that, regional centres have also seen property prices dramatically rise over the last eighteen months, as city-dwellers, scared off by COVID and the continuing strength of urban property markets, have sought greener pastures – literally. But there’s one regional centre that’s outperformed any other: Byron Bay.Australia’s official home of activated almonds and ~good vibes~ has quickly become the most expensive place to buy a home in Australia, with the median house price skyrocketing from $1,286,000 in mid-2020 to over $2,700,000 by mid-2021. Many attribute Byron’s price explosion to the high-profile arrival of celebrity buyers: the Hemsworths (brothers Chris Hemsworth, Luke and Liam), Zac Efron and Matt Damon, to name a few, have all bought multi-million dollar houses in Byron recently.RELATED: Byron Bay Steals Sydney’s ‘Los Angeles Of Australia’ Mantle With Controversial Netflix SeriesIndeed, there’s even a name for it: ‘the Hemsworth effect’. But while the price hikes seem hard to justify, that doesn’t mean you should be deterred from moving to Byron.

Byron’s main drag. Suspiciously few luxury SUVs out in this photo… Image: Where’s Mollie
Firstly, the reason many big-name celebs have moved to Byron is that many Hollywood film productions – notably, some of Marvel’s superhero films, such as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, moved to New South Wales to escape the horrific COVID conditions in other parts of the world. But now that Europe and the United States are opening back up, and Australia is emerging as a laggard when it comes to dealing with COVID, we’ll see many of those productions move back overseas, and the celebs with them, which might take some heat out of the property market.Secondly, when Sydney and Melbourne finally get a grip on The Spicy Cough as we move into summer (fingers crossed), people will want to come back to the country’s two biggest cities. Byron might be a slice of paradise but it’s still a regional centre with few of the amenities that our bigger urban centres boast. Probably not too many Range Rover service centres out there…RELATED: The Truth About Australia’s Most Vilified Motor VehicleThe uncomfortable truth, however, is that while the 12-month median house price hike is truly ridiculous, you’re still able to get more value for money when it comes to property in Byron than you are in Sydney or Melbourne, especially if you want some beach access (a testament to how f*cked Sydney and Melbourne property prices are).
Coogee, in Sydney’s exclusive Eastern Suburbs. The median house price in Coogee is $3,180,000, much higher than the median NSW house price of ~$800,000. Image: Ozbeaches
DMARGE spoke exclusively with Edward Brown, Director at leading Australian real estate provider Belle Property, who puts it this way: “Byron’s very expensive right now but it’s no surprise why. You’re still getting bang for your buck, compared to Sydney.”RELATED: These Popular Australian Suburbs Are Increasing In Value By $50,000 A MonthAs for his predictions for which NSW suburbs will continue to see big price rises, he reckons “Bondi, Coogee… Anywhere with a bit of water. People love the lifestyle” – which you’ll notice, tacitly includes Byron.Better start saving, then.

Traveller Finds Genius Way To Offset Cost Of Australia’s Hotel Quarantine
Traveller Finds Genius Way To Offset Cost Of Australia’s Hotel Quarantine

From watching Netflix to pounding out miles on your exercise bike, there are many ways to pass the time in hotel quarantine.Few of them, however, are as potentially profitable as the hobby one Perth based man has recently taken up, upon his return to Australia from a trip overseas.Stuck in hotel quarantine for two weeks with nothing to do, and free electricity, travel blogger and airline points hacker Immanuel Debeer decided to try his hand at mining bitcoin.

Watch Immanuel mining for bitcoin in the video below

Immanuel shared the video on his Instagram story a few days ago, writing that “the only issue is the heat” before acknowledging the mantra “no pain, no gain.”He has since confirmed to DMARGE that it’s not a joke, telling us: “I’m really mining bitcoin.”

“Anyone with a good graphics card can do it.”

Immanuel told DMARGE it could prove a good way to offset his quarantine costs (if he finds any bitcoin). Australian hotel quarantine costs about $3,000.

“Since power is free, it’s 100% profitable.”

As for whether the hotel was aware of his bitcoin mining activity, Immanuel said: “I don’t think they know? At least I haven’t told them.”

“This will help me offset the cost of the quarantine haha!”

Other than that Immanuel told DMARGE that quarantining in West Australia has actually been “a very smooth/easy process” especially when compared to horror stories he’s read over the last year.He also said, “Coming back into Australia, although the people are friendly, you feel like a prison/criminal.”

“There’s a guard outside my hotel door and from the time we landed until we got checked in there was a police escort to make sure nobody had a chance to run off.”

Aside from that, he told us life in quarantine is a bit dull but – so far – not too bad.“I’m used to working from home so this is not all too different and when I’m not working and mining Bitcoin I use my gaming PC to play COD Warzone.”“That said, I wouldn’t want to do quarantine with partner/family or kids (not that i have kids!) etc. The hotel rooms are tiny so there really isn’t much room for more than 1. Anyway, it’s only day 4 and I’ve had people tell me the breaking point is usually day 10…”

American & Japanese Car Makers Are Going To Be Left Behind By China
American & Japanese Car Makers Are Going To Be Left Behind By China

The automotive industry is currently in the midst of a paradigm shift. Well, multiple paradigm shifts, really. The first is the move towards electrification. More and more car brands are investing heavily in electric vehicles (EVs) with some even committing to completely phase out fossil fuel-powered cars in the near future, such as Bentley, Jaguar, Lotus, MINI and Volvo. Even Ferrari has released its first hybrid vehicle, the SF90 Stradale. The second is the rise of China as an automotive powerhouse. China has long since eclipsed the United States as the world’s biggest car manufacturing nation, but Chinese cars have long suffered from a (not entirely undeserved) perception that they’re low-quality, and haven’t always succeeded outside of the People’s Republic. But that’s changing rapidly. In countries like Australia, Sweden and Norway, vehicles from Chinese marques such as the MG3 and Polestar 2 have become some of the best-selling vehicles in their respective markets. The paradigms are colliding, too: China leads the world in EV manufacturing and a Chinese EV, the Wuling Hongguang Mini, is now outpacing the Tesla Model 3 as the current best-selling EV.In short, the ‘threat’ from China is real. But not all brands are doing what they need to, to keep up with China – or the industry more broadly. Specifically, many Japanese and US auto makers, who used to be on top of the industry, are falling behind.

The Toyota Mirai, Toyota’s flagship hydrogen car. While hydrogen cars do have some environmental benefits, it’s now clear that it’s not going to be the ‘technology of the future’. Image: WhichCar
Japanese car makers, in particular, have become bizarrely reluctant to pursue battery electric vehicles (BEVs, i.e. totally electric cars). Toyota, the world’s biggest car brand, is probably the worst culprit. Whilst they were an early innovator when it came to mild hybrids, such as the Prius, Toyota has stagnated in recent years, doubling down on mild hybrid and hydrogen technologies when it’s become clear that plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and BEVs are the way of the future.Indeed, Toyota has actively lobbied the US Congress to slow policy moves towards BEV adoption, The New York Times reports, and the company’s president, Akio Toyoda, has even called EVs “overhyped”, according to the Wall Street Journal.Toyota’s not the only culprit, either: Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda et al have all been very slow when it comes to BEVs despite previously being innovators when it came to electrification (although it must be noted that Honda has actually committed to divesting itself of petrol and diesel engines by 2040, the first and so far only Japanese car maker to do so.)For some American auto makers, it’s a similar story. While General Motors is planning to transition to carbon-neutral by 2040 and Ford of Europe has announced that its entire passenger vehicle range (plus two-thirds of its light-commercial vehicle range) will be fully electric by 2030, Ford’s American operations haven’t followed suit. Stellantis, the European mega-corporation that now owns the Chrysler Group, has announced ambitious plans to electrify 96% of its American offerings by 2025 – but that notably excludes their fuel-thirsty Dodge and RAM brands. And that’s crucial. Fuel-thirsty trucks like the Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-Series and RAM 1500 are these American brands’ biggest sellers. It amounts to greenwashing: there’s little point electrifying other models if your biggest sellers are still fossil-fuel powered. Things may change in the truck space, however, with the arrival of BEVs like the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T…RELATED: Tesla Cybertruck Rival Threatens To Make Camping Actually Enjoyable
The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, a car that’s perhaps emblematic of America’s automotive predicament: spending too much time making fuel-thirsty, niche vehicles on outdated chassis, rather than investing in new chassis and new technologies. Image: Top Gear
The second area in which Japanese and US auto makers are falling behind China in is quality. American cars have always been considered somewhat dubious when it comes to overall quality, but Japan used to be the gold standard – that reputation is now slowly evaporating. As Japanese auto makers have moved production offshore to countries like Thailand, Mexico and indeed, the United States, their bulletproof reputation has taken somewhat of a hit. South Korean brands have largely supplanted Japanese ones when it comes to making affordable, quality, reliable cars. Hell, they’re even following the Japanese template of moving into luxury vehicles: Hyundai finding impressive success with their premium Genesis marque, for example.RELATED: ‘I Would Have Never Considered Buying A Kia… Until Now’Something that’s very telling about American car quality in particular, however, is how Chinese-made versions of American-designed cars are coming off production lines better made than their American counterparts.“Comparing vehicles that are built both in the West and China is particularly illuminating,” Tom Stacey, a senior lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University in England relates.

“Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y cars are both built in the US and China, and owners in Europe have reported that the Chinese versions are better. I hear that their all-important panel gaps are tighter, and fewer trips to the repair shop are required.”

Watch Tesla’s new Model Y’s brutal crash-testing process

So what do the US and Japan need to do if they want to stay on top in the car game?Simple. Embrace electrification more earnestly; not as a fad but as the future of motoring. That’s the first step. Second, they need to go back to the drawing board when it comes to quality control, and stop ‘phoning it in’. Part of this has to do with their reliance on stringing out vehicle designs and platforms for far longer than they really need to, in order to cut costs (something the Japanese are a little more guilty of than the Americans).RELATED: Pandemic Shows What Japanese Auto Makers Can Learn From AmericaOf course, it’s easier said than done. But the reality is this: Europe is making all the fun and interesting cars, and China is making all the cheap, electric cars. The US and Japan don’t want to get left behind.

Salt Bae’s Latest Glute Workout Puts Kim Kardashian To Shame
Salt Bae’s Latest Glute Workout Puts Kim Kardashian To Shame

The fitness industry tends to dish out different advice to different genders: men are encouraged to build up their chest and biceps and women are promoted leg and ‘booty’ workouts.

In short, men don’t give enough attention to their butt. But the glutes are the largest and strongest muscles in your body. So guys really should be performing more exercises and workouts to strengthen and tone up this area.

Why? Because gluttoning up your glutes can increase your flexibility and mobility, as well as make simple tasks like lifting heavy weights, running, sitting with correct posture and climbing the stairs easier.

So, what exercises can you perform to give you a more devastating derrière?

Enter, Salt Bae. The world-famous butcher is known just as much these days for his intense workouts, stupidly low body fat percentage, and an overall commitment to be as physically fit as possible. The salt-sprinkling maestro recently posted a workout to his Instagram story – following a trip to London which saw him charter a private jet – which shows how you can build up strength in your glutes using nothing more than a set of resistance bands.

For context, resistance bands are an incredibly underrated piece of equipment, and are a perfect substitute for dumbbells and other weights, if you don’t have access to them. Their versatility means they can be used pretty much anywhere, including at home, so there are no excuses for building up that ‘thicc’ old tush.

Watch Salt Bae’s glute workout in the video below

In his videos, Salt Bae can be seen performing a variety of leg-orientated movements, with virtually all of them seeing him place a couple of resistance bands around his ankles. Placing bands here will provide incredible amounts of tension to your legs, as they’ll have to work harder to combat the extra resistance. These bands come in different levels of resistance; from loose all the way through to incredibly tight, so it’s worth experimenting with a complete set to see which ones work best for you (before building up your strength and buying harder ones).

Salt Bae’s gluten workout consists of the following movements:

  • Squat with banded pull: With bands around your ankles and holding another band (attached to a ground-level point), lean back slightly and squat down. For an effective squat, tuck your pelvis in and imagine yourself sitting down on a chair. You don’t want to bend the knee first, but rather sit back into the squat and have the knee bend follow. When returning to a standing position, pull the band in your hands with you, to give your back and core a bit of a workout too.
  • Resistance band leg lifts: With one or two resistance bands placed just above your ankles and your feet hip-width apart, lift one leg out to the side. This will not only test your balance, since you’re relying on the other leg to keep you stable, but it will target the smaller muscles in your glutes, along with your quads (or thighs) as you’ll need to squeeze these too in order to combat the resistance. Salt Bae performs all of his reps without the lifted leg touching the floor, but if you’re new to the movement, you can return your foot to the floor before performing each rep.
  • Resistance band lunges: Lunges, even without the assistance of bands or weights, are a great exercise to target various muscles in your legs, including the glutes. Strapping some resistance bands around your thighs only increases the amount of tension placed on these muscles: both on the lunge down (you’ll feel more stress in the trailing leg) and the return movement (which torches the muscles in the leading leg).

These are just some examples of the glute and leg workouts you can perform with resistance bands. We’d recommend researching some other movements to create a complete workout, in particular anything that involves a hip extension.

As Canberra-based fitness coach Ben Griffin says, when we’re performing these type of movements, the more the knee is bent, the more the glutes are activated: “When we bend the knees, we shorten the hamstrings, impacting their ability to assist with hip extension, essentially making the exercise more glute dominant, e.g. glutes bridges and hip thrusts.”

Perform glute and leg workouts at least once a week (ideally more) and you’ll have a super strong set of rounded buttocks in no time. There’s no need to go full Kim Kardashian and do 1,000 squats a day

Speaking of which; Salt Bae seems to be the internet’s new king of glute workouts, with Kim Kardashian having not posted a workout photo in quite some time.

Check out some of Salt Bae’s most brutal workouts in the video below

Drake’s $3.2 Million Richard Mille Deemed A Choking Hazard By Watch Fans
Drake’s $3.2 Million Richard Mille Deemed A Choking Hazard By Watch Fans

Drake has barely put a foot wrong in 2021.Not only has his sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy, demolished streaming records (crucially, beating out rival Kanye West’s album Donda, which was released only days before Drake’s album), but his ‘NOCTA GOLF’ apparel collaboration with Nike has also been incredibly successful. He’s a man on top of the world. So it’s perhaps unsurprising that Drake’s added yet another incredibly expensive watch to his already lavish collection to celebrate his recent winning streak: a Richard Mille RM 27-04 Manual Winding Tourbillon Rafael Nadal worth as much as AU$3.2 million, which he showed off on his Instagram Story earlier today. It’s a watch he actually raps about on the album, on the track You Only Live Twice, where he claims he paid US$2.2 million for it (“Yeah, two-point-two for the Rafael Nadal / Don’t act like you’re happy for me now.”)But sometimes even winners choke – which is what Drake’s done, quite literally, with this new watch. Fans have been quick to point out that he’s wearing his expensive timepiece far too tight, literally choking his wrist in the process. It’s making us feel uncomfortable just looking at it.

Images: @champagnepapi / Richard Mille
As the name implies, the watch is one of a number of signature models produced by Richard Mille for the legendary 20-time Grand Slam winning tennis player Rafael Nadal. Nadal’s RM models are some of the brand’s most popular, but this model is particularly special.RELATED: Rapper Meek Mill Spotted Wearing The Most Bizarre Richard Mille Watch EverInstead of a dial, a single woven steel cable is strung across the interior of the watch, both aesthetically and literally like the way you’d string a tennis racket – highly appropriate for a tennis star like Nadal. The movement is then suspended from the mesh under high tension, apparently capable of withstanding accelerations of over 12,000G’s, with a skeletonised titanium baseplate underneath supporting the eye-catching structure. The watch’s case is made from an exclusive material called TitaCarb; a carbon fibre-reinforced polymer that’s incredibly tough, light and similar to materials used in the automotive and aerospace industries. If that wasn’t exotic enough, the RM 27-04 is a limited edition of only 50 pieces. In short, it’s one gigantic flex – shame Drake decided to wear it so tight on his wrist and look like a pillock in the process.

Fans have said everything from “what is that watch” to “incredibly corny” about the flex on Complex’s Instagram, some even quipping “he looks like he’s from Entourage“. Yikes.Drake’s not the only celebrity who’s been guilty of choking out their wrist with their expensive watch like this. For example, acclaimed Spanish film director Pedro Almodóvar was spotted seriously cutting off his circulation with his Bulgari Octo Finissimo at the Venice International Film Festival earlier this month – a horological faux pas spotted by watch expert Nick Gould (@niccoloy).RELATED: Michael Jordan Wears An Icy-Cold Rolex On His Hot European Summer HolidayOther celebs guilty of this watch crime include Will Smith, John Travolta and former US President Donald Trump. So we guess Drake’s in illustrious company, then…

Video Reveals The Boeing Aircraft Seat You Really Don’t Want To Get Stuck In
Video Reveals The Boeing Aircraft Seat You Really Don’t Want To Get Stuck In

Boeing's new anti flight collision technology has some social media users ~concerned~.

The technology, which is currently being tested, has sparked fears it could mildly irritate passengers if and when it becomes commercialised.

"Great idea but...might be a tad [sic] enoying," one Twitter user wrote.

On Facebook, one wrote: "The pax at the row in front and behind on a night flight…" followed by a GIF of a nightclub's flashing lights.

Amid much praise for its environmental bonafides, others commented: "That is the stupidest thing I’ve seen today. Leave the anti-collisions alone and make the flash pattern more similar to the old strobes" and "It looks like it occupies a window. Hopefully at booking this seat will be noted as not having a window" (to which one user replied airlines could "make it the flight attendant seats for TO and landing").

"What about flying through fog? That will blind the passengers in neighbouring windows."

"We're testing a new low profile anti collision light system on the 2021 #ecodemonstarator in partnership with @Alaska air," Boeing wrote on its Instagram story last week. The airlines also posted a series of videos, which you can watch below, which show the lights in action.

Watch Boeing test its new anti-collision technology below

"Tested in a flight test window. These lights are designed to fit within the fuselage and topped with a low profile cover," Boeing added.

Fuselage is the central portion of the body of an airplane, designed to accommodate the crew, passengers, and cargo.

Collision lights are important, according to AeroSavvy, because "there are a lot of airplanes in the sky; especially near busy airports."

"It’s important for pilots to see other aircraft in the sky and on the ground. Anti-collision lights help make airplanes easy to spot, even several miles away."

Benefits of the new LED anti-collision light system, according to Boeing, include:

  • reduced drag to improve fuel efficiency
  • provide 360 degree visibility
  • better protect the lights

The impact it might have on passengers remains unclear. Would it be someone's window? Or simply a part of the fuselage where no one sits? Even if no one sits there, it appears the flashing could potentially be seen by nearby passengers if they were to have their window shades open.

Photos from Getty Images suggest it may be in front of a passenger seat – the one with the exit row leg room.

Alaska Airlines blog writes of the technology: "Low-profile anti-collision light – an aircraft body needs to be as streamlined as possible – anything sticking out creates drag and reduces efficiency."

"Anti-collision lights currently are located on the top and bottom of the fuselage and stick out so they can be easily seen."

"A low-profile light is being tested with a new lens so the light doesn’t stick out as far but can still be easily seen. This design also moves the electronics from outside to inside the aircraft, improving the light’s reliability."

Important Mental Health Message Every Australian Needs To Be Reminded Of In 2021
Important Mental Health Message Every Australian Needs To Be Reminded Of In 2021

Things are pretty tough for most Australians right now.The COVID-19 pandemic, which has dominated our lives for almost two years, has been immensely detrimental to our mental health. The quite rational and debilitating fear of illness and death combined with the dearth of social contact thanks to lockdowns and social distancing has been a hell of a one-two punch. Stats from the Australian Institute of Health & Welfare are rather sobering. It doesn’t help that the inconsistent nature of lockdowns domestically, which have seen some states/cities enjoy freedoms whilst others are restricted, has added to the toll. It gets even worse when you look overseas. Europe and North America might have far higher COVID case numbers and deaths than Australia, but people are enjoying more freedoms – with scenes of blissful summers streaming directly into our devices.Social media has been both a blessing and a curse during this pandemic. While it’s been crucial for people to stay in contact during these periods of uncertainty and isolation, social media has also done much to spread misinformation and fear around the virus, as well as impacted our mental health by showing us scenes of freedoms we can’t enjoy. It’s why this piece of advice, shared by Steven Furtick, an American pastor and mental health advocate back in 2011 on Twitter, continues to resonate in 2021 over a decade later, or perhaps especially in 2021 (which in of itself perfectly demonstrates the dual nature of social media).
