As far as car launches go, pulling a silk cover off to rapturous applause just doesn’t cut it anymore. So Jaguar took the term ‘launch’ literally and drove their new E-Pace SUV off a ramp before hitting a full 360 degree barrel roll.
The Jaguar E-Pace is meant to be the British marque’s entry level SUV, but you wouldn’t really know it based on the car’s bold and masculine lines which it borrows from the SUV flagship model, F-Pace. According to Jaguar, the sporty driving feel will also be evident in the E-Pace with inspiration drawn from their F-Type sports car.
Under the new skin of the E-Pace will resides a nine-speed automatic transmission paired with all-wheel-drive for the Australian market. Customers will also be spoilt for choice in terms of 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine-specs which includes a 110kW, 132kW and 177kW diesel alongside two petrol variants with 183kW and 221kW of power. The latter of those engines will be paired to the range-topping model which can accomplish the 0-100km/h sprint in 6.4 seconds.
Besides the deceivingly spacious cabin which is good for a young family along with 577 litres of boot space, the E-Pace also has a cool feature which allows drivers to lock the car remotely with their smartwatch or smartphone. Don’t have a smart device? 1] What rock have you been living under and 2] Jaguar are also offering a waterproof band which can lock and unlock the car remotely so you can store your valuables inside the cabin whilst you go for a surf or dip in the ocean.
The car will officially be on sale locally from April 2018 and it’s probably a good idea to refrain from any barrel rolls if you do take ownership.

Without wanting to get too morbid, one of the greatest existential fears humans face is that one day, we’re going to be completely unnecessary in the quest to keep our own species going.
In fact, when you think about it, humans are the only species in the known universe to transcend the need to prevent ourselves from going extinct. Such rapid development has landed us in 2017, where we now employ self-driving cars, develop artificial intelligence systems and drones to do our bidding for us.
But where does that leave our race in the grand scheme of things? The answer is to find the jobs in which the human brain, its creativity and its curiosity will never be rendered obsolete.
Theoretical Scientists

Scientists use machines to help get answers the greatest questions of the life and the universe every day. What can’t be replicated though, is the innate desire of humans to question how and why everything exists.
Of course, theoretically an advanced enough AI may be capable of this in the far future, but we’re not exactly there yet. For as long as humans exist, we’ll be searching for answers to the biggest and smallest scientific questions, and there’s only one being we know that has the capability to ask such questions in the first place: us.
Politics

Politics as we know it will always be a truly human thing. Why? Because it’s based on spin, cunning, and ultimately a pretty delicate balance of good intentions and deceit. Sadly, these are all very much human traits, and while machines may one day provide all the modelling and data required to win an election, the act of delivery is an entirely different thing.
It may be a sad fact of life, but what humans seem to excel at is convincing the ignorant and the weak-minded what is right and what is wrong. Which leads us nicely into our next skill…
Marketing

The more you think about it, it seems relatively simple to conceive that a machine could one day program the kind of functional advertising campaigns you saw in Mad Men. We live in a different world today though, a world of viral marketing, where companies and products must be clever, adapt, add and take away features according to trends, and ultimately mould human behaviour.
Advertising and marketing was once about guessing and catering to what people wanted, whereas now it’s about telling people exactly what they want before they even have the chance to think about it. Only humans themselves excel at that.
Advancing The Cause Of Machines

Ironically, the one job that’s almost guaranteed to be safe from automation in the future is the continued development of machines. While it may seem like robots are getting smarter by the day, ultimately, the only progress that gets made by machines comes because of relentless human development.
Naturally then, when it comes to developing anything from AI to blockchains, Virtual Reality & 3D printing, we are the common denominator.
Gastronomy

Gastronomy is one of the few art forms that goes beyond the idea of “art is what you make of it”, which is important when defining what art could and could not one day be achieved by any form of artificial intelligence.
Of course, you could theoretically program a machine to create a delicious piece of functional food based purely on data input about the person eating it. At the same time, a painting done by a robot could technically be considered art in the eye of a beholder. What separates the two is flair, which will, as far as we can see, remain very much a human trait.

Whether it’s to peruse the local paper or set the scene for a night of passion, artificial light can create the ideal ambience to any home
Since the dawn of time…No. Scratch that. Since man fist discovered fire and tinkered with artificial illumination, we’ve endeavoured to develop lighting solutions and styles that can be incorporated into almost any space. From well-lit home office to a mood-enhancing living room, artificial light knows no bounds.
Whether it’s halogen fixtures or energy efficient LEDs, this is the D’Marge guide to cool home lighting.
Experiment To Gauge Interest
Experiment with the unexpected to create interest. This could be done by placing traditionally outdoor lighting indoors, installing a shows-topping chandelier above the dining table, or clustering pendants together in the living room.
Discover Your Guiding Light
A functional and stylish lighting plan will combine all three following types of lighting.
Ambient lighting: General: overall lighting that reveals the expanse of the room. Radiating a comfortable level of brightness minus any glare. Ambient lighting can be secured via the use of ceiling or wall-mounted fixtures, chandeliers and recessed or track lights. It’s a good idea to have a decent source of ambient lighting in each room of your pad.
Task lighting: Specific lighting that is focused and directional. They provide top-notch lighting for things like reading and intricate tinkering without eye strain. Task lighting options include floor and desk lamps, under-cabinet lighting, pendant lights and recessed or track varieties.
Accent lighting: Introduces drama and visual interest. Used to highlight certain areas and draw the eye to specific points of interest, like artwork or plants, successful accent lights will offer at least triple the normal amount of ambient light. Wall mounted picture lights, recessed and track lighting constitute your accent options.
Think of accent lighting as the perfect excuse to introduce a sculptural and decorative element into the space. Try repeating a shape or colour that is already present in the surrounding furniture in the form of a lampshade or light fitting.
Energy Efficient Lighting
Lighting a home, even a small apartment, can be expensive when you consider fittings and running costs. But lighting is one way we can consume less energy and, as such, the types of lights we place in our homes are changing. Incandescent lights are being phased out and the same is likely to happen to high-wattage globes, which can be replaced by more energy-efficient lights.
The boss of low-energy, long-life lighting is the LED. This type of light source is very versatile, capable of producing white light and a range of coloured lights all in the one globe.
Bathroom: Bathroom lighting doesn’t need to be boring. Play around with sconces and other unusual options to make your bathroom a standout feature.
Bedroom: Bright lights and bedrooms aren’t exactly a match made in heaven. Incorporate dimmable up-lights for ambient lighting and combine with task reading lights next to each side of the bed.
Kitchen: Effective lighting design demands pools of light where it’s needed and reduced light elsewhere. Kitchens need good lighting to perform functionally. Focused task lights are also needed for performing detailed tasks such as chopping vegetables.
All too often, kitchens fade into the background of open-plan pads so consider accents like concealed lighting below the kitchen cabinets to illuminate the splashback.
Lighting can provide more than just luminosity; it can also enhance the ambience in your home to fit different moods and occasions. Remember to keep in mind the lighting style of adjoining rooms and hallways to secure good flow. The living room benefits from wall up-lights that bounce light off a white ceilings. Dimmable varieties are best, while floor lamps create focused reading nooks.
Enter Lamp Shades
For energy conscious dudes, lamp fittings and shades that allow most of the light through the material are ideal because it means a lower-wattage bulb can be used. Choose fabrics, colours and textures that relate to other key items of furniture.
So, what are you waiting for? Enhance the aesthetic interior of your home with a cohesive lighting plan and carefully chosen light fittings that complement your interior scheme.
Whether it’s halogen fixtures or energy efficient LEDs, set the mood to suave, sexy and cool with our guide to cool home lighting.

It’s customary for car models to go through refresh cycles once they’ve been floating around for a few years, but in the case of Aston Martin’s forthcoming hypercar the idea of evolution seems to have come before conception itself.
Today the British marque’s insane V12 powered Valkyrie hypercar received its first round of updates in the form of revised bodywork to enhance its aerodynamic efficiency. What does that mean? More grip through the bends, less drag and more speed. Lest we forget, the car wasn’t even slow to begin with.
A closer look and comparison between the initial Valkyrie design reveals extra vents on the front fenders as seen on the DB11 and the complete deletion of side mirrors. Based on the cockpit design it’s safe to assume that strategically placed cameras will beam live images onto the dual screens on either side of the door.
Elsewhere the Valkyrie will shed lap times with the help of aerodynamically-designed wheels and advanced headlights which the company claims is 30-40 percent lighter than any other headlight used in its current range.
If it all sounds rather radical, there’s a good reason for that. The car is being built in partnership with the Red Bull Racing Formula One Team which allows it access to some of the world’s most vital data on making things with four wheels defy physics. They also have consultation provided by world-famous aerodynamicist and the Red Bull team’s Chief Technical Officer, Adrian Newey.
Do you think the Aston Martin Valkyrie will become the pinnacle of hypercars or is it just a good excuse to blow money on R&D? Let us know in the comments below.

The following article has been sponsored by Optus
Imagine this for a moment. Over 129 years worth of the world’s most intriguing animals, people, places and cultures ever seen with the human eye or captured on camera available in the palm of your hand.
This is exactly what Optus and National Geographic have made possible with the launch of their world-first mobile app which promises to converge knowledge, education and entertainment all into one intuitive platform for this generation’s most inquisitive minds.
History In Your Hands

National Geographic’s extensive catalogue is mind-blowingly extensive to say the least, with several generations of storytelling in its archives to draw from. For the first time ever, Optus in partnership National Geographic has enabled customers to access a rich array of content across the mediums of print articles, beautifully produced video and photography in one place.
Put simply, if you can query it then you can discover the answer in its most intriguing form through the new National Geographic app.
Evolution Of Your Content, Your Way

We hear the confusion. Why does a telecommunications company want to bring some of the best content in the world to you in such a way? The answer is simple; Optus wants to change the old image of what a traditional telecommunications company should be.
According to Optus CEO Allen Lew, the company has already been providing content as part of its business for the past three years and it’s this new partnership with National Geographic that will engage with more people from around the world than ever before.
And this means that Australians will be able to delve deeper into the trenches of science, history and nature with just a few swipes of the finger. Rest assured it has nothing to do with sending you back to school and everything to do with providing a portal to the world you’ve never seen.
What Users Will Experience

Throwing content at audiences in the hopes they’ll read or watch it is an obsolete model. Audiences find what they want, when they want and it’s a concept that content producers have long struggled with – until now. The future is here and it’s showcased seamlessly in The National Geographic app which is much more than just an app.
Think of it as a piece of A.I which learns from what you’ve searched, read and watched to deliver highly personalised content that will help your mind grow whilst staying connected with the past, present and future.
Want to know about the discovery of the Vampire Flying Frog with black fangs? Its discoverer, Dr. Jodi Rowley, can tell you all about it on the app, from the damp nights spent in Vietnam’s most remote swamps to the roots of its unusual name.
If deep-sea discovery is more your inclination, you can follow Erika Bergman’s journey into the mysterious depths of uncharted waters as a submarine pilot. From lost underwater cities to new species of marine life, it’s Bergman’s job to show it to the world and you can join her on the voyage from the comfort of your own lounge.
The list of features on the app doesn’t end there. National Geographic was built on explorers so they’ve dedicated a section of it to the public who can contribute their own stories and imagery for others to see.
How To Get The World In Your Pocket

The National Geographic app brings the world into your pocket and is updated daily with content from Australia and abroad.
Sound like your kind of company on the way home or before bed? The app is available to new, existing and recontracting Optus My Plan Plus/Flex and My Plan Business/Flex customers who are on plans of $40 and above at no extra cost, and without using any of the plan’s monthly data allowance.
In the numbers game that’s 5,000 long and short form videos and over 28,000 photos and galleries by some of National Geographic’s leading photographers.
To master your own world and open your mind even more, head over to Optus now.

The concept of bespoke suiting has long been held in high esteem amongst the artisans who create them and those lucky enough to wear them.
As one of the finest ways a man can express himself in society, Conor McGregor has today taken that sartorial notion and given it two middle fingers with a big ‘Fuck You’ – literally.
The UFC megastar fronted up to the first press conference for his $100 million fight against world champion boxer Floyd Mayweather in a three-piece pinstripe suit featuring pinstripes forming the words ‘Fuck’ and ‘You’ in vertical succession. Kind of like The Matrix code if said code was an asshole.
LMAO the Suit!!!! pic.twitter.com/B4iL0DZARF
— Chase Sherman (@ChaseShermanUFC) July 11, 2017
Of course this all plays into the trash talk that usually precedes a historical fight like this one (or any fight really if you’re McGregor). The whole ‘Fuck You’ suit thing though is rather meta. Is it a ‘Fuck You’ to fashion conformity? Is it a ‘Fuck You’ to the plebs out there who scoff at the tarnishing of an age-old art? Or is it simply a ‘Fuck You’ to his next big opponent?
Either way it’s all fun and games until the pair enter the ring on August 26 where pay-per-view is currently charging US$100 to watch the fight. But we digress. You probably won’t be seeing this fabric at your local tailors anytime soon.

For a long time, publications like Life and National Geographic were the best way for curious couch travellers to explore the globe from their sofas. Then came David Attenborough and Planet Earth (or Snoop and Plizzanet Earth, if that’s your vibe). Then came social media.
With the rise of the internet, striking images of far out places are more accessible than ever. Instagram is brimming with incredible athletes, photographers, and explorers who share their most extreme experiences with eager followers around the world. When mid-week malaise hits, and we’d rather be anywhere than stuck in the office, theirs are the feeds we turn to for a dose of excitement and inspiration.
“I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list,” said Susan Sontag. The folks behind these amazing adventure Instagrams may have actually been everywhere, and we’re thrilled they’re taking us along for the ride.
Miles Holden
Based in the infamous adventure capital of Queenstown, New Zealand, Miles Holden has been an outdoor adventure photographer for 20 years. His action-oriented photography features a range of adrenaline-fueled individuals running, biking, skiing, and hiking their way through stunning natural landscapes.
Tim Kemple
Tim Kemple is an action-sport and lifestyle photographer who traces his love of the medium to a post-high school road trip. Alex Honnold lives life on the edge – literally. The professional rock climber’s audacious free-solo ascents have made him one of the most recognised and followed climbers in the world. Though he has been featured in The New York Times and National Geographic, and is sponsored by the likes of Black Diamond and The North Face, he maintains his simple “dirtbag-climber” existence, living out of his van and travelling the world in search of his next great vertical adventure.
Renan Ozturk
Renan Ozturk – expedition climber, landscape artist, and filmmaker – has travelled the world from the high Himalayas, to the jungles of Borneo, to the deserts of Africa in search of the perfect shot. Along with photographs and films, Ozturk produces video ‘dispatches’ during expeditions to share the adventure with a global online audience in near real-time. His visual storytelling style has made him a leader in the outdoor industry, with clients including The North Face, National Geographic, and Outside Magazine

The research is in: bromance is making the world a better place.
From the decades-long partnership of Batman and Robin, to the more recent alliance of Barack and Joe, there’s a long and proud tradition of brohood. Who among us has not marveled at the pranking prowess of Brad and George? Or the Oscar-winning talent of Matt and Ben? Or the skirt-chasing shenanigans of Leo, Tobey, and the rest of the Pussy Posse?
Your bro is your best friend and most trusted ally, your go-to wingman and your partner in crime, a staunch confidant and a loyal mate. It’s always sunny in Brohemia, until…
One day you catch him flirting with your sister. Or sneaking the last beer out of your fridge. Or Insta-stalking your girlfriend’s old bikini pics. Suddenly you find yourself facing a harsh new reality: your bromance has gone bad.
Here are eight signs your bromance has turned toxic and could soon start damaging your other relationships.
Your Bro Is Always Around
Third wheels are only cute on tricycles. Just as it’s important to have a life outside of your romantic relationship, it’s important to dedicate time to only your relationship. Your best bud doesn’t belong on date night or your romantic weekend getaway, nor should he remotely gate-crash by constantly calling or texting. Even if your bro and your S.O. get along, trouble is bound to brew if he barges in on any plans he pleases.
It’s Causing Fights, Jealousy, Or Competitiveness
A bromance enters dangerous territory when other friends or your partner begin to feel threatened. Jealousy has reared its ugly head and now you’re caught in the middle. Perhaps they’ve started picking fights with each other and demanding that you take a side. Or maybe they’ve become competitive, always trying to one-up each other and prove they’re the better friend. The fun of being fought over wears off quickly when you realise you can’t have everyone in the same room without risking WW3.
Your Bro Throws You Under The Bus
A little good-natured ribbing is classic bro behaviour, but when it escalates to sabotage, it’s a clear sign that something’s gotta give. Instead of acting as a primo wingman should, and making you look good in front of other people, this insecure bro opts to put you down and discredit you in public. He spills about past relationships to your girlfriend, tells embarrassing stories to your mum, and has no qualms about revealing your deepest secrets to your squad.
The Shit-Talking Has Started
The world isn’t a Coke ad in which a bunch of hippies sing in harmony about love, community, and sugary drinks. Sometimes your friends won’t like your other friends. Sometimes your friends won’t like who you date. And that’s ok, provided you didn’t have your heart set on some kind of Kumbaya campfire sing-along, and provided they keep their mouth shut about it. A bad bro is weirdly intent on making you hate people you like by incessantly shit-talking and second-guessing your taste in companions. If anyone was a bad choice, it’s probably him.
Your Bro’s A Flirt
You don’t need an encyclopedic knowledge of the Bro Code to know that certain ladies are off-limits (ex-girlfriends, current girlfriends, sisters, etc), yet this man has no problem making eyes at your cousin and slipping his digits to your Tinder date. It’s the ultimate brotrayal.
There’s A Battle For Your Attention
Hanging out with a mate is perfectly cool, but when happy hour drinks turn into an all-night rager which turns into skipping work the next day for a spontaneous golf holiday, you might have a problem. No friend, family member, or partner wants to feel ignored, or like they’ll always play second fiddle to a domineering BFF. Divide your time wisely so everyone important knows they’re a priority.
Under less innocent circumstances, your bro may be actively conspiring to overshadow everyone else in your life. A needy bro will go to war for your attention, and the neediest of needy bros doesn’t care what kind of attention it is. He’ll get into an argument with you as long as it means he’s on your mind. Negative attention is better to him than no attention at all.
Your Bro Encourages Bad Behaviour
Your eternal bachelor bro was a blast when you were both single. You tore up the town together, smashing shots and collecting numbers like long-lost members of a certain previously-mentioned posse. But his chronic man-child act has lost its charm now that you’re attached, and to make things worse, it seems his new favourite pastime is trying to drag you down to his level. He’s the guy who keeps buying beers after you say you’re done, and encourages you to take home the girl from the bar because “Come on, your girlfriend’s never going to find out!”
You Remember Your Bro’s Birthday But Not Your Girl’s
Welcome to the dog house. Hope you like sleeping on the couch.
