I Met More A***holes In 2 Days In Byron Bay Than 2 Years In Sydney
I Met More A***holes In 2 Days In Byron Bay Than 2 Years In Sydney

Everyone loves to whinge about Byron Bay. I always thought the gripe was overrated. Until last week. After visiting Byron Bay for the first time in a decade, I now know where all the angst is coming from. Me.

Byron Bay is booming. It’s got a Netflix reality show. It’s got twenty billion new residents for summer (ok, maybe not quite that many, but you get the heavily-filtered picture). It’s got one of the most f**ked up Airbnb and rental markets in the country. It’s got Japanese restaurants. It’s got pizza places. It’s got Don Pedros. It’s got stoned backpackers working in kebab shops infuriating their managers with their lack of care about keeping their jobs. It’s got neighbouring suburbs charging tourists $115 a night just to pitch a tent in their yard. It’s got Airbnbs with giant erotic paintings peeping out from every corner. It’s got a sign telling you to chill out.

According to the backpackers who I spoke to, it’s heaven. And if you disagree, you’re just visiting at the wrong time or bringing the wrong attitude. In my case, both accusations were true. Coming in sleep deprived and with high expectations of chilling out, I was ripe to clash with the hundreds of other anxious, eager-to-chill tourists, what with our over-packed cars and manic road trip energy. And that’s before we even get to the locals, who are sick of having their streets used as toilets and their parking spaces stolen.

What could possibly go wrong? Mucho. This is how I ended up meeting more arseholes in 2 days in Byron Bay than I have met in the last two years in Sydney. That’s not to say that they were all locals (they could all have been other tourists, as far as I know), but my experience was besmirched nonetheless.

The first unpleasant encounter I had was with a lady who ran over my surfboard. That’s right. Not content with staring at me as if I just took a shit on her windshield when she realised my surfboard was blocking the path to her car, this time poor soul still found the time, after I moved my surfboard out of the way of her car, and put it next to mine, to maneuver her Range Rover wheels just close enough to run over the nose of my surfboard. No chill whatsoever.

The next asshole observation I have is driving. Though I thought big cities had more drivers who woke up and chose violence than small towns, Byron Bay quickly blasted my theory to bed. Though some people are super chill, stopping to let pedestrians cross and waving, others are more impatient and angry (and reluctant to move backwards to let you reverse park even though you indicated well in advance) than anyone I’ve met in Sydney all year.

Next, there’s the surf. Though it’s quite competitive in Sydney, there were more people out at The Pass on New Year’s Eve than I’ve ever seen at south Bondi. And with the water raging like a river, it was even harder to catch a wave. Snaking, dropping in and burning were rampant, and the arseholes (myself firmly among them) were out in full force.

Another incident of assholery (whether I’m the asshole or the victim you can be the judge) was when I was browsing a clothes shop despite the owner putting out a “closed” sign. I was told in no uncertain terms to f*ck off unless I was going to buy something. I then complained about how expensive the shirt I wanted was. I then bought it anyway.

Arts Factory Lodge. Image Credit: Booking.com

Later that night I visited the supposedly welcoming Arts Factory Lodge with a group of friends. Because we were just visitors, and not staying there, people looked at us as if we had just arrived from Mars. We had to surrender our IDs and debit cards just to sit in the courtyard for a while too.

RELATED: ‘It’s Not 1964, Idiots’: Byron Bay Local’s Warning To Reckless Endless Summer Surfers

Finally, on arriving at a Mullimbimby campground, opening the gate myself and driving to the reception, I was quite aggressively asked, by the English drill sergeant-sounding owner, as if I was an idiot (which I probably am, but that’s not the point), if I had read the sign on the gate that said “No Vacancy.” I told him that I had but that I had a booking.

He said: “Oh, you must be with Hipcamp.”

All in all, it was a great trip, but the Christmas/New Year’s Eve break is definitely not the time to do it. And if you choose to go at that time, and make yourself part of the problem, be warned – you will probably encounter quite a few assholes. Plus: you will be counted among them. Happy holidays!

Saudi Arabia Set To Bend Marriage Laws To Suit Cristiano Ronaldo
Saudi Arabia Set To Bend Marriage Laws To Suit Cristiano Ronaldo

Saudi Arabia are reportedly set to bend their marriage laws to allow football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to live with partner Georgina Rodríguez.

The 37-year-old Portuguese striker recently signed with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, following his bombshell exit from Premier League club Manchester United prior to the World Cup.

Currently, Saudi Arabia’s laws prohibit unmarried couples to live together. This posed potential problems for CR7, who is not married to long-time partner Georgina Rodríguez.

However, the Arab nation are set to bend their laws for the former Real Madrid man, with couple set to be granted an exemption to live together.

According to MARCA, Ms Rodríguez will still be subject to a number of other Saudi Arabian laws though. Although women have gained more freedoms in the country as of late, there are still more restrictions for women than in many Western countries.

This includes wearing an Abaya – a dark coloured talar tunic – in public and refraining from wearing any low-cut or tight-fitting clothes.

‘Rules are made for poor people’

Cristiano Ronaldo will reportedly earn up to $200 million (AU $290 million) a year at Al-Nassr. Image: @cristiano

Although the marriage law exemption is clearly beneficial for Cristiano Ronaldo and his family, some Instagram users took to the platform to express their annoyance at the rules being bended for the football star.

One user commented, “Rules are made for poor people.”

Another stated, “Nothing new here. Laws have never been applicable when they get in the way of profit.”

Ronaldo’s mega move – which will also see the legend become the world’s highest paid player earning $200 million (AU $290 million) a year – likely represents more to the Gulf nation than simply profit.

Similar to Qatar and the 2022 World Cup and the LIV Golf tournament, signing the footballing star reinforces Saudi Arabia’s bid of becoming a major sporting and diplomatic player in the Middle East.

Image: Getty

It may open the door for more renowned players to follow Ronaldo in choosing to move Saudi Arabia to play their football and improves their rumoured bid for the 2030 FIFA World Cup in collaboration with Greece and Egypt.

Clearly, if you are the most marketable asset in the country – as Cristiano Ronaldo is with Saudi Arabia – you are granted some bargaining power.

That is, if Ronaldo doesn’t accidentally rock up in South Africa instead of Al-Nassr’s training ground!

What Happens When There’s Turbulence During Your Emirates First-Class Shower
What Happens When There’s Turbulence During Your Emirates First-Class Shower

Turbulence is scary enough when you’re strapped into your seat. But what happens when it hits while you’re in the shower? One Emirates first-class passenger has just taken to TikTok to show you what it looks like, and what the safety protocol is.

We live in turbulent times, but sometimes things get really – physically – shaky. Enter: turbulence. Turbulence recently caused havoc on a Hawaiian Airlines flight and is once again on a lot of people’s minds again after so many people were shockingly injured.

WATCH: first class passenger shows what happens when there’s turbulence in the shower

Though turbulence of that magnitude is rare, and it’s even rarer for airlines not to warn you that it’s coming, it’s always good to know how best to deal with it, should you find yourself in a bumpy situation. To that end, TikTok user The Luxe Travel Couple have come out with a video that shows you what to do when shit goes down and you’re in the shower at 40,000ft.

“Here’s what to do in case of turbulence mid shower on the Emirates a380 shower spa’s,” The Luxe Travel Couple captioned their video. In the video The Luxe Travel Couple explained “in the event of turbulence you’ll be advised to sit down on the bench in the shower and hold on to the rail. There’s no seatbelt and there’s no need to return to your seat unless there’s an emergency.”

“There are also speakers that will tell you what to do,” the video proclaimed.

RELATED: The Most Ridiculous First Class Complaints Of All Time

Popular comments on the video included (hopefully in jest): “If there’s turbulence the pilot ejects you”, “”what in the rich ppl” and “I didn’t even know planes had showers.”

Another commenter asked: “Why do the same safety standards not apply? Like why does everyone else have to return to their seat but not first class passengers?” Another TikTok user responded: “Because they’re naked… Has nothing to do with flying first. If there were showers in the economy, it would be also like that. It’s more dangerous to leave the shower than to stay there.”

Something to mull over the next time you’re in the shower.

Salt Bae Is Obsessed With Patek Philippe Watches – Here Are Some Of His Best
Salt Bae Is Obsessed With Patek Philippe Watches – Here Are Some Of His Best

Salt Bae has three loves: charging influencers stupid amounts of money for overseasoned steaks, manhandling Argentinian soccer players, and expensive Patek Philippe watches.

The 39-year-old Turkish butcher, restauranter and social media star (real name Nusret Gökçe) has improbably parlayed his Internet meme fame into becoming a multi-millionaire feted by the world’s rich and famous, who are all keen to dine at his global chain of steakhouses.

While his restaurants have been criticised for being too expensive (and not very good), it’s hard to be too critical of the man and his boy-came-good story, rising from very humble beginnings as the son of a mineworker and butcher’s assistant to international superstar.

What does he spend his millions on, though? The answer’s simple: Patek Philippes. Salt Bae is absolutely obsessed with the Swiss watchmaker’s creations, especially the Patek Philippe Nautilus. He’s never seen without a Patek – and he owns literally dozens of the things.

We’ve rounded up some of the most interesting and excessive Patek Philippe watches Salt Bae owns.

Salt Bae recently made headlines after gate-crashing the Argentinian football team’s victory celebrations on the field post-match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, pestering players for photos and even holding the trophy – a gesture reserved for winners and heads of state. (He’s since been banned from entering any stadium at the 2026 FIFA World Cup).

However, something you might have missed during that viral moment was the outrageous watch Salt Bae was wearing: a bedazzled yellow gold Patek Philippe Nautilus (ref. 3800/3J). As mentioned above, Salt Bae has a particular penchant for Nautiluses, especially vintage pieces, especially if they’re blinged-out.

This 90s-era Nautilus combines an 18ct yellow gold case and bracelet with a ‘champagne’ dial featuring diamonds for hour markers, and a bezel set with 40 diamonds worth around 0.9ct. It’s worth around US$120,000.

Naturally, this is a very bougie watch… But would you believe this is nowhere near the most bougie Nautilus Salt Bae has in his collection?

This Patek Philippe Nautilus Chronograph (ref. 5980/1R-001) is also one of the more subtle Nautiluses in his collection – if such a thing is possible. Salt Bae tends to prefer time-only models but this chronograph is a rare exception.

Crafted from 18ct rose gold, this take on the famous luxury sports watch features a flyback chronograph complication – perfect for timing how long it takes for you to sprinkle several hundred grams worth of rock salt down your forearm onto a customer’s tenderloin.

One of Patek’s most popular models, this chronograph regularly sells for over US$200,000.

This Patek Philippe Aquanaut Travel Time (ref. 5164A-001) is a triple rarity for Salt Bae: not only is it made from stainless steel and not a precious metal, but it’s not a Nautilus and it features a complication. It’s actually often harder to get stainless steel Pateks than it is to get precious metal models, though…

Actually, the Travel Time is probably one of the most interesting watches Patek makes. As the name implies, it features a novel dual time zone mechanism that indicates local and home time, with the pressers on the left-hand side of the case allowing users to adjust each time zone. It also features a date wheel at 6 o’clock for the local date.

It retails for around US$40,000 but market prices far exceed retail, with the Travel Time usually fetching around US$90,000.

Images: @nusr_et / Lotsearch

Here’s a watch of Salt Bae’s that’s particularly unusual: his Patek Philippe Calatrava ‘Clous De Paris’ (ref. 3520/10). This watch actually marks him out as a real Patek connoisseur: sure, the insane number of Nautiluses he owns just reeks of ‘new money’, but this vintage Calatrava is something that only a real watch fan would opt for.

The Calatrava is one of Patek’s most enduring dress watch designs. This particular example features a handmade ‘Clous de Paris’ bezel: a guilloché technique that forms a series of small pyramid-like squares, which is also sometimes called a hobnail pattern.

Like many of his watches, this 70s model is crafted from 18ct yellow gold. It’s also mounted on a gold integrated bracelet with flat links. These will set you back around US$50,000.

Images: @nusr_et / Patek Philippe

Now this is probably the bougiest Nautilus that Salt bae owns: his ref. 5719/11G-010, which he can be seen here showing off to Thierry Stern, the president of Patek Philippe. Interestingly, Stern is wearing an Aquanaut Travel Time, just like the one Salt Bae has.

This unbelievably excessive white gold model is completely paved with over 1,400 diamonds worth over 18ct. This specific watch is a bit of an enigma, as Salt Bae’s been seen wearing the same watch with a sapphire bezel – although this model also seems to have sapphire hour markers.

Either Salt Bae’s had the sapphires on the bezel swapped out for diamonds (or the baguette diamond hour markers swapped out for sapphires, which seems less plausible) or this is a piece unique that combines a diamond bezel with sapphire hour markers and blue hands.

In any case, this is a bloody insane watch that’s probably worth in excess of US$1 million. As Salt Bae would say, “WOW.”

Banker Banned From Flying Air India After Urinating On Fellow Passenger
Banker Banned From Flying Air India After Urinating On Fellow Passenger

Golden amenities, golden tickets, gold star service… golden showers? A man has received a 30-day flight ban from Air India after peeing on a business-class passenger.

You might aspire to be a gold-class flyer on some airlines’ frequent flyer programs, but you probably don’t want this. In a story that beggars belief, a banking executive has allegedly been given a 30-day flight ban after exposing himself and urinating on a fellow passenger.

The fellow passenger was a woman in her seventies, who was in a business class aisle seat. The woman alerted flight crew to the incident, however, they did not have the man arrested upon the flight’s landing in Delhi.

The woman wrote a letter to the chairman of the Tata Group (the owners of Air India) and it was reportedly only then that the airline launched an investigation. In the letter, the woman said the crew were “not proactive” and that she had to advocate for herself.

She said that shortly after lunch, when the lights were switched off, “another passenger walked to my seat, completely inebriated.” According to the woman’s letter: “he unzipped his pants, relieved himself and continued to expose me to his private parts.”

After relieving himself, the man allegedly continued to stand there and only moved after another passenger asked him to leave. The woman went to the toilet to clean herself up, and the crew gave her pyjamas and slippers to change into. A stewardess also sprayed disinfectant on the woman’s bag and shoes.

The woman was then reportedly given a narrow crew seat, despite other business-class seats rumouredly being vacant. She apparently sat there for an hour before being asked to return to her seat, upon which flight attendants had put sheets. Two hours after this she was given yet another crew seat.

A spokesperson for the airline said: “A passenger behaved in an unacceptable and undignified manner on the New York-Delhi flight” explaining that this behaviour “caused extreme distress to a fellow passenger.”

“A police complaint has already been lodged and Air India is committed to assist the law enforcement agencies as well as regulatory authorities,” the spokesperson added.

The airline also said in a statement that the passenger had been banned from flying with Air India for 30 days or until the decision of the airline’s internal committee. Additionally, the airlines said that if the passenger was found guilty then action will be taken against the unruly passenger “as per regulatory guidelines.”

RELATED: Air India Business Class: One Cranky Man’s Review

In the aftermath of the incident, which happened last year, but which has properly only come to light in the last week, it has been reported that the unruly passenger was a banking executive who boarded the flight drunk.

As dw.com reports, “US banking giant Wells Fargo fired Shankar Mishra, a vice president with the company, after he allegedly urinated on an elderly woman on an Air India flight from New York to Delhi.”

How To Wear All-Black | Men’s Outfit Inspiration
How To Wear All-Black | Men’s Outfit Inspiration

Fact: Men love the colour black. And our shopping habits say so. According to retail analyst Edited, black was the most popular colour in menswear back in 2015, accounting for 32% of total clothing sales. Since then it’s been on the rise thanks to big ticket streetwear names like Off-White and Y-3 utilising the timeless hue.

The result? We’re seeing more gents go the all-black route, forgoing any light or colour for clean, minimal monochrome. But, knowing how to wear all-black, is more than just heading to the shops and stockpiling anything dark. Do it wrong and you could be reliving your emo days of 2005.

Shedding some light on this shady situation, we’re rounding up five of the coolest ways to wear all-black for modern times.

Formal All Black Suits

The all-black triple-threat – shirt, tie and suit – is a surefire way to stand out and look chic at your next dinner party. Or merit you look of the week on the red carpet (if that’s how you roll Mr. Celeb).

Worn with patent leather Oxfords and a satiny, peak-lapel, play with contrasting textures adding matte black to the oil-slick shoes via crisp cotton shirting and a tux in a mohair wool – offering a subtle sheen. The suit fit, more than ever, needs to be impeccable; there’s no gregariously red boutonniere or pocket square to draw attention elsewhere.

RELATED: How To Wear A Tuxedo

Casual All Black Suits

A black suit is a men’s style staple. But sadly, it gets underused outside office hours and party season. Tailoring, in an all-black sense (beyond the blues and whites of corporate work), should feel more European and chic off-duty. The clean lines and open space acting as blank canvas for accessories: a statement watch, signet ring or silver neck chain.

In cooler months, look to one of this season’s game-changers – the roll neck. Streamlining the neck, shoulders and chest, work in some metal (silver is always a masculine options). A cool look is a layered, short pendant over your roll neck, a or feather-metal lapel pin on your jacket. Add a silver-buckle monk shoe.

If it’s too warm for a roll neck, simply get the job done with a clean collarless black shirt.

All Black Rock Star Style

All-black outfits are going hell-for-leather come the weekend. Riding with the original – biker or perfecto, team a snug, cropped jacket over a fine-gauge that sits high on the waist over trouser-style, slim jeans. Base the look out with Chelsea boots.

For a more of-the-minute-look, go longline. Team a slim-cut, lengthy button-down shirt, with a barely-there camo print in ripply jacquard or windowpane check. The black jeans should be skinny with this East London-look, adding a wool fedora and wayfarers taking you straight back to the Sixties mod-squad. For a streamline (and comfortable step) swap the boots for creeper-sole Derby shoes.

All Black With Denim

A t-shirt and jeans is man’s answer to cool, casual wear in summer. So how’s it work, given all-black means you’re likely to overheat in the summer, rather quickly?

Keep t-shirts as light as possible – think linen and light cottons – staying away from heavy cotton blends and nothing skin-tight. Wearing jeans, avoid anything too heavy like selvedge denim and opt for slim-cut (skinny’s in summer are regrettable) in cropped ankle-style or roll the hem yourself, to let the air flow.

Style point: tuck a t-shirt loosely into trouser-shape jeans for an instant smartening of your simple outfit.

RELATED: How To Master The Shirt Tuck

Japanese All Black Style

Rivalling the Scandinavians, the Japanese are pioneers of this season’s neo-minimalism. The new all-black is noirish streetwear – in roomy silhouettes made from quality natural yarns. Black bermuda shorts are instantly summer-ready made from rustic linens, teamed with a box-cut tunic or granddad collar shirt (also linen). It’s about keeping cool with the effortlessness of light, lazy fabrics.

Urban and wintry, wool-cotton blend trousers are best in a wide leg shape, then tapered from the knee-down. Cuffed at the ankle, team leather high-tops and fuss-free black tee. A style mistake here would be to add a cloak or kimono. Proportions, top-to-bottom, should be in contrast, working slim cuts with billowy, so you don’t lose all sense of shape.

Embrace The Black Out

Don’t be afraid to rock all-black. It’s chic, stylish and relatively foolproof. But for fear of looking boring or burning up in summer, the following tips will give your muted look a voice and leave you feeling comfortably cool:

  • Footwear should be made a statement piece. Opt for black sneakers with mesh panels or all-black prints like camo or stripes. Dress shoes available with contrast stitch and soles for a pop of colour that won’t derail your all-black.
  • Accessories are vital. Black woven belts and cuffs are ideal leather additions while brass and silver jewellery – rings, bracelets and neck chains – should be added to casual looks (pick one or two not all three, tin-man).
  • Fabric applies most in summer. Opt for natural cottons and even linens when shopping for black long-sleeve shirts and blazers.

Roman Emperor’s ‘Floating Palace’ Puts Today’s Superyachts To Shame
Roman Emperor’s ‘Floating Palace’ Puts Today’s Superyachts To Shame

If you think we’re the only generation of humans to spend our wealth in depraved ways, think again: two ships built on Lake Nemi under the reign of the Roman Emperor Caligula show we’re not alone.

It’s surprising Roman Emperor Caligula was not throttled on his way to the throne. His father died at 33, most likely due to being poisoned by Emperor Tiberius, who saw Caligula’s family as a threat to his power. Caligula was then shipped off to live with various different family members, many of whom ended up getting whacked too. Eventually, he wound up in the care of the Emperor himself. While you might have expected Tiberius to have murdered Caligula, he actually came to care for him.

Caligula was smart. He won over both Tiberius and the senate so that when Tiberius died (it remains a matter of debate, with some believing it could have been from natural causes and others saying it was more likely by Caligula’s hand) he became Emperor.

Caligula had an impressive start as Emperor, lowering taxes and raising military wages, becoming known as a populist reformer. He made the people love him. But then he fell ill, likely due to poison. He recovered in body but not mind, thus entering a paranoid era. During this era, he had people killed for all sorts of reasons – political, personal and for the hell of it. He made people refer to him as a god. It’s even rumoured that he once ordered a whole section of the audience watching the gladiator games to be thrown into the arena.

On the plus side, during this era, Caligula had two large luxurious ships built on Lake Nemi, a volcanic lake about 30 kilometres south of Rome. Some say they were built to send a message to the top dogs of Syracuse, Sicily, and Egypt (according to Windows of World History, “Caligula bragged that his ships were the most luxurious in the Hellenistic world”).

Others reckon one of the ships was made as a floating temple to Diana. Another popular theory, however, is that at least one of the ships was used as a floating pleasure house where Caligula could take a break from the pressures of running a kingdom into the ground while his compatriots tried to poison him, and indulge in the various depravities he was known for.

Apparently, these ships’ parties put Jeff Bezos, Dan Bilzerian, and your local European crypto bros’ debaucherous superyacht summers to shame. Caligula’s ships had huge bars, banquet halls and – according to Weird History – even a wide array of vines and fruit trees. Weird History adds: “Needless to say these ships functioned as floating soddoms and gommorahs.”

Left: artist’s impression of Caligula’s floating ‘pleasure palace’ (source: HubPages). Right: Romans of the Decadence (source: Mutual Art).

The two ships have been described as being built of cedar wood, dazzled with jewelled prows and rich sculpture. There were also, naturally, sails of purple silk, and bathrooms of alabaster and bronze (and vessels of gold and silver). The floors were also apparently paved with glass mosaic, the windows and door frames made of bronze, and many of the decorations were rare pieces of art.

The ships were steered using 11.3 m quarter oars. The second ship (the bigger one) had four oars, two off each quarter and two from the shoulders. The first ship was equipped with just two. The big one was probably powered by oars. The smaller one was likely towed to the centre of the lake to be used. The ships were not very imaginatively named. Caligula called them primera nave and seconda nave.

RELATED: How Much Superyacht Crews Really Get Paid

In 41AD, when Caligula was 28, a senator led a conspiracy to murder Caligula and succeeded. After this, the boats were either sunk on purpose or sank due to neglect. The ships stayed on the bottom of Lake Nemi for 19 centuries, before fascist dictator Mussolini had the lake drained in 1928. This took three years. When they finished historians and archeologists discovered that the ships contained technology not thought to be used in Rome until later in Roman history (like piston pumps for water and a folding stock anchor).

The art squad comes good… Image Credit: New York Times

The remains were put in a museum. But in May 1944, the museum was either set on fire by fleeing Nazis or destroyed in a US air strike (it remains up for debate). Some remnants survived and were looted and smuggled out of Italy. A so-called “art squad” has made it its mission to recover some of these artefacts, in at least one case succeeding (a coffee table a wealthy New York couple bought in the 1960s was confiscated in 2017, as it turned out to be a piece of flooring from one of the Nemi ships).

RELATED: Germans Allegedly Swipe $5 Million of Art From Russian Superyacht

There you have it: it appears superyachts have been unimaginatively named throughout all of history (think: Super Yacht A). And perhaps also proof that humans haven’t changed as much as you might have thought over the course of 20 centuries…

Binge is Foxtel’s streaming service and has a partnership with HBO (a US-based pay television network), so it offers most – if not all – HBO content. How much is Binge?

Binge, like some other streaming services on this list, has three subscription tiers: Basic, Standard and Premium.

  • Basic costs $10 per month and lets you stream content in standard definition on up to 1 screen at a time.

  • Premium costs $18 per month and lets you watch content in up to high definition on up to 4 screens at a time.

Foxtel Now

Foxtel Now is another Australian streaming service from Foxtel. It first launched in 2013 and has undergone a few name changes before settling as Foxtel Now. For years, it was the only place to be able to watch HBO content, however, with Binge now offering much of the same and more, and Kayo Sports (a sports streaming service; see below) offering much of the same in terms of sporting content, it makes Foxtel Now a tough one to recommend.

How much does Foxtel Now cost?

Foxtel Now is split into various packs, allowing you to customise your ideal package with just the content you know you’re going to watch. However, this can work out to be quite expensive, at least compared to a Binge or Kayo Sports subscription.

Foxtel Now’s pricing is as follows:

  • Essentials: The Essentials pack is required to kick off any Foxtel Now subscription and costs $25 per month. It gives you access to Foxtel Original programming, HBO and other channels across lifestyle, drama and comedy.
  • Sport: The Sport pack can be added for an additional $29 per month. It brings with it 12 24/7 sports channels, with access to over 50 live sports including AFL, NRL and Formula 1.
  • Movies: The Movies pack costs an additional $20 per month on top of the Essentials pack and brings with it access to over 1,000 movies on demand, alongside 11 dedicated movie channels.
  • Drama Extra: Drama Extra costs an additional $10 per month and gives access to 7 dedicated channels for drama programming, including those on BBC First, UKTV and Universal.
  • Ultimate Bundle: The Ultimate Bundle is currently available for $49 per month for 12 months at the time of publishing. It combines Essentials, Sport, Movies, Drama Extra and Kids & Docos into one monthly subscription. For the price, it makes it the best value Foxtel Now subscription option. However, this increases to $104 per month after a year.

Foxtel Now free trial

You can get a 10-day free trial to all Foxtel Now subscription packs to see if it is the best streaming service for you.

What can I watch on Foxtel Now?

As previously mentioned, it is possible to get access to a wide variety of on-demand and live content through Foxtel Now’s various packs. The stand-out programming comes from HBO, Foxtel Originals and the dedicated sport and movie channels, which include Fox Sports, ESPN, and a range of movie channels dedicated to various genres.

What devices can I watch Foxtel Now on?

Foxtel Now is supported on a wide range of devices. These include:

  • Foxtel Now boxes
  • Smart TVs
  • Smartphones and tablets via the Foxtel Go app
  • PCs
  • Macs
  • Media streaming devices
  • Telstra TVs
  • PlayStation 4

A full list of supported devices can be found on the Foxtel Now website.

Kayo Sports

Kayo Sports is one of the best streaming services in Australia for live and on-demand sports. It’s owned by Streamotion (the same company that owns Binge, and a subsidiary of Foxtel) and is the ultimate go-to place for all sports-loving fans.

How much does Kayo Sports cost?

Kayo Sports now has three subscription tiers to choose from. These are:

  • One: $25 per month with up to high definition streaming on only 1 screen at a time.

What devices can I watch Kayo Sports on?

Kayo Sports can be accessed on the following devices:

  • Smartphones
  • Tablets
  • Media streaming devices and set-top boxes
  • Select Hisense, Samsung and LG smart TVs
  • Telstra TV
  • PCs
  • Macs
  • PlayStation 4 and 5

A full list of supported devices and required operating systems can be found on the Kayo Sports website.

Shudder

Now for something a little different, a streaming service dedicated entirely to the horror genre. Not only does Shudder have some of the best horror movies to ever come out of Hollywood, but Shudder makes its own original content too.

How much does Shudder cost?

Shudder has just one subscription tier and costs $6.99 per month in Australia or $69.99 for an annual subscription. Alternatively, you can get access to Shudder for free if you subscribe to AMC+ (see above).

Shudder free trial

Shudder offers a 7-day free trial so you can see if it’s a good streaming service for you.

What can I watch on Shudder?

As already mentioned, Shudder is devoted to giving you access to content intended to make you shudder with fear. Think horror, thriller and suspense. Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions, the library of content on the Australian version of the Shudder streaming service is relatively small compared to the US version, and some notable titles are missing.

However, Shudder has said it will do everything it can to bring Australian horror fans the content they crave. For now, Shudder Australia has a huge range of original content that is sure to get your spine tingling.

What devices can I watch Shudder on?

Shudder is available on a limited range of devices, which include:

  • PCs
  • Macs
  • Smartphones
  • Tablets
  • Amazon Fire TVs
  • Android TV devices

A full list of supported devices can be found on the Shudder website.

Yeehaw: Cadillac & Andretti Plan To Join Formula 1 In 2026
Yeehaw: Cadillac & Andretti Plan To Join Formula 1 In 2026

The last time we saw more than 10 teams in Formula 1 was almost a decade ago – but that might be set to change, with Andretti Global and Cadillac having just unveiled their plans to join the F1 grid in 2026.

After two years of big talk and speculation, it seems as if F1 might have finally found the elusive 11th team it’s been coveting for years, with top motorsports outfit Andretti teaming up with General Motors’ luxury marque Cadillac on what they’re calling “a true American F1 bid.”

This comes after FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem Tweeted earlier this week that he had asked his team “to look at launching an expression of interest process for prospective new teams” looking to join the Formula 1 World Championship – the first proper invitation the FIA has extended to new teams. F1 has not had a new team since fellow American team Haas joined the grid in 2016.

Andretti owner Michael Andretti – son of 1978 F1 World Champion Mario Andretti and a former F1 driver in his own right – has been vocal about his desire to join the grid over the last two years, but both the FIA and existing teams have been somewhat dismissive of his bid.

But now that he has one of the world’s biggest auto makers on his side, it seems as if the door might finally be open to Andretti joining the grid. It’s understood that one of the main reasons F1 and the FIA were previously hesitant about Andretti was that they weren’t coming to the table in conjunction with a manufacturer. This Cadillac partnership changes everything.

Andretti’s F1 dreams look like they might come true thanks to their partnership with General Motors. Image: Andretti Global

In many ways, there’s no better candidate for a new F1 team. Andretti Autosport is one of the most successful motorsports outfits in the US and competes in a wide array of motorsports series across the world including IndyCar, Formula E, Extreme E and the Australian Supercars Championship. They’re incredibly competent and know how to run winning race teams.

At the same time, General Motors and the Cadillac brand more specifically are keen to reestablish their reputation as a serious performance car maker – and have the sorts of deep pockets and resources that are necessary to succeed in the top tier of international motorsports.

The prospect of another American team joining F1 is also a tantalising prospect for both fans as well as F1’s owner Liberty Media, who are keen to capitalise on F1’s growing popularity in the United States. Another American team will help with that.

Cadillac recently made a splash with the unveiling of their V-LMDh prototype race car, with which they will contest the IMSA SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That car marks the brand’s comeback to the world racing stage after a 20-year hiatus.

How will it work?

First of all, Andretti Cadillac will have to present a formal expression and full application (both of which have fees of several thousand dollars attached to them) to the FIA, who will do their own due diligence process analysing any potential bid.

Additionally, any new team joining the F1 field is required to pay a US$200 million fee as a dilution fund that is split between the current grid to make up for splitting the teams’ payouts with another entrant, Motorsport.com explains.

The team will operate primarily out of the new Andretti Global headquarters that’s currently under construction in Indiana, but will also open a European satellite base in the UK (a similar model to what Haas has).

Initially, Andretti will receive a power unit supply from another engine manufacturer (almost certainly Renault) but seeing as they’ve got General Motors on board, it’s likely that they’ll try and develop their own power unit, too.

Colton Herta, who has multiple wins with Andretti in IndyCar to his name and has tested for multiple F1 teams, would almost certainly be one of Andretti’s drivers. Image: ESPN

Andretti and Cadillac have said they’re “seeking to compete as soon as practical with at least one American driver”, which again, will almost certainly be Colton Herta, who races for Andretti Autosport in IndyCar. American drivers have traditionally been something of a rarity in F1: Logan Sargeant, who is joining the F1 grid with Williams in 2023, is the first American driver to compete in the sport since 2015.

The possibility of another team joining the grid and therefore another two race seats opening up is also no doubt an exciting prospect for drivers who’ve found themselves without an F1 seat for 2023… Daniel Ricciardo is a notorious Americanophile and is very popular in the States – could he maybe rejoin the grid with Andretti in 2026?

We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, though. Nothing’s been finalised yet, and other recent developments in the F1 team landscape – such as Porsche’s deal with Red Bull or McLaren’s deal with Audi – have failed to launch. But this bid looks pretty serious, and could see F1 change significantly in 2026.
