Want more legroom but aren’t willing to splurge on business? Emirates, the world’s biggest long-haul airline, aims to provide just that.
While its business and first-class passengers have long been pampered, the introduction of premium economy on all of its new A380 and 777s from 2020 (and plans to retrofit the seats onto some aircraft already in its fleet) will be a welcome announcement to those who don’t “make bank.”
The Dubai-based carrier’s A380s will have about 56 premium economy seats in the front of the bottom deck of the aircraft while the 777s will have between 26 and 28, Emirates President Tim Clark said.
The seats, known as “sleeperettes”, will have a pitch of 38 inches—up to 6 inches more than standard economy—and will come with better service, food and a private toilet.
“The(re has been a) groundswell of opinion from the segments which are telling us that they are prepared to pay more for a more comfortable seat with more legroom with a degree of exclusivity,” Clark said.
Premium economy seats have become popular in recent years, Singapore Airlines Ltd. and American Airlines Inc having led the way. This latest move by Emirates then, could either be a way of keeping up, or a response to another threat to its business model—the fact that Qantas is now flying some of the world’s longest routes directly, bypassing airports like Dubai.

“With looks like these, who needs hair?” said no-one ever. Yes: some guys look good bald. But they would look even better with a prince charming mop. Even Ashton Kutcher, one of the world’s most well endowed men in the… face… department, revealed on Monday (on a talk show) that he took medication to prevent hair-loss.“I noticed it was starting to go, and so I went and met the hair guy doctor and he put me on this medication called Avodart,” he told Conan O’Brien. “Your body produces testosterone. The byproduct of testosterone actually causes follicles to get weaker and fall out, so you take this stuff and it washes away the byproduct of testosterone. But, we don’t know what else might be used for that could be good in the body.”The 40-year-old actor, who started his career as a model, has been experiencing hair loss since the age of 25, and has a (slight) receding hairline because of it. However, when he married Mila Kunis in 2015, their decision to start a family prompted him to get off the medication, as he wasn’t sure what side effects it might have.
“So, I stopped taking the stuff about three years ago, and now I’m experiencing the hair loss. It’s starting to go. I’m a baseball cap guy, so I think I’m OK. I’ve established myself as a baseball cap wearing individual.”
So there you have it: take meds or buy a cap. Just for the love of god—avoid the toupee.RELATED: How To Grow Out Your Hair Without Looking Like You’ve Given up On Life

This week Oklahoma City Thunder star, Russell Westbrook stepped out for the 2018 CFDA Fashion Awards in New York City. As per usual, Russell was the bello of the ball opting to throw caution into the wind with a bold black tie combination.
Wearing head to toe Tom Ford, Russell opted for a pale blue dinner jacket with the traditional shawl collar. Combined with classic black trousers and punchy embroidered slippers the ensemble makes for a welcome change to the humdrum of standard event black tie attire.
D’Marge’s editorial team agrees the only item missing was a white pocket square but who cares, right? Pick up select items from Russell’s look over at Mr.Porter.

There are few things more tempting than a donut and a coffee on a Friday afternoon. And few feelings more demoralising than the inevitable sugar crash that follows, when you know you’ve still got two more hours work to get through.
But what if there was a was to avoid this? Well, after conducting a series of successful experiments on mice, scientists now hope to (one day) be able to turn off your sweet tooth, eliminating those late-in-the-day tests of will power.
As reported by Science Daily, “New research in mice has revealed that the brain’s underlying desire for sweet, and its distaste for bitter, can be erased by manipulating neurons in the amygdala, the emotion center of the brain.” So who knows: maybe you could end up loving broccoli.
They came to this conclusion by conducting several experiments in which the sweet or bitter connections to the amygdala (one part of our brain that controls emotions) were artificially switched on or off. When the sweet connections were turned on, the mice responded to water just as if it were sugar. Likewise, by manipulating the connection, the researchers could also make a bitter taste be perceived as an attractive one (so tweets like the following will become a thing of the past).
Currently at the gym and my brain decided to remind me how delicious mint chocolate chip ice cream is…so that’s helpful
— Dean Michael Unglert (@deanie_babies) 31 May 2018
Even more significantly; “When the researchers instead turned off the amygdala connections but left the taste cortex untouched, the mice could still recognise and distinguish sweet from bitter, but now lacked the basic emotional reactions, like preference for sugar or aversion to bitter” (Science Daily).
“It would be like taking a bite of your favourite chocolate cake but not deriving any enjoyment from doing so… After a few bites, you may stop eating, whereas otherwise you would have scarfed it down.”
The study also has implications for the treatment of eating disorders.
“The research points to new strategies for understanding and treating eating disorders including obesity and anorexia nervosa.”

Alfa Romeo is continuing to deliver the tastiest fruits in the sports car segment with the announcement of not one but two specialty models on the horizon.
The 8C supercar will form the flagship of the current Alfa Romeo portfolio whilst the iconic GTV badge name will be revived in the form of a Giulia-based coupe. The GTV will arrive first with a slated 2019 debut. According to the announcement by the Italian car maker, the GTV will boast a 50/50 weight distribution to provide sublime handling characteristics, over 600hp (445kW) with electronic-boost, all-wheel-drive with torque vectoring and enough seats for four passengers.
The power unit for the GTV is expected to be borrowed from the current Giulia Quadrifoglio which will come as a package consisting of the 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 paired to an electric motor.
The 8C meanwhile will arrive some time after 2020. The wait should be worth it with details revealing a full carbon fibre monocoque chassis (like the 4C) paired with a mid-mounted twin-turbo engine driving the rear wheels and electric motors powering the front. The combined power output for this all-wheel-drive setup is expected to be well over 700hp (520kW) whilst being able to dispatch the 0 – 100km/h sprint in under three seconds.
The two sports models, or ‘specialty’ models, will make up part of the seven models Alfa Romeo planned to release by 2022. They will join the recently arrived Stelvio SUV and Giulia on local turf.
Until then it’s probably a good idea to start saving some coin. We’ve added Top Gear‘s review of the old 8C concept for your viewing pleasure below.

Jeans are the unsung heroes of any man’s wardrobe. From dodgy dates to scoring your first job, these bad boys have gone through thick and thin with you – suspect stains intact. There’s a more pressing issue though. When the time finally comes to part ways with old indigo, do you spend $200 on a new pair of jeans or $2,000?Most men will scoff at the idea of buying luxury denim which can start at $500 and go all the way up to the thousands. It’s the resounding call of: “Why would I spend $2,000 on jeans when I can get them for under $200?”We hear you and today we answering that by breaking down the differences between them.Helping us get the facts straight is Bryce Alton, CEO of Nudie Jeans Australiasia, who has also worked with numerous denim labels throughout his career.
How Much Denim Design Affects Cost
One of the contributing factors to any high-end denim is its design. A simple glance at an expensive jean will often reveal finer details when compared to a cheaper pair.Distress patterns, buttons, panelling features (the additional fabric sewn under the distressing), stitching, wash and fit all contribute to the final price. Once proprietary design is built in that final price is subjective to the label.“You can’t put a price on any ‘art or design’, but unique aspects of a new style should always be considered to some degree,” explains Alton. So in other words, labels can charges as much or as little as they want based on their designs. As a given Alton says that all denim customers should have the basic expectations when handing over their hard-earned cash for any pair of jeans – cheap or expensive.“The fit should include prerequisites such as room for both your legs.”
Branding & Reputation Mark Up
Branding is the beast which can drive customers to pull the trigger on a product based on its perception. When it comes to jeans, Alton says that every brand is different in the way it factors reputation into its final price.“Take the luxury brands for example, whom spend billions of dollars on advertising and putting the product into celebrities’ hands.”“They limit their distribution all to control the supply and demand to be able to sell their products at the price-points they wish. [This is] despite the quality not being much different than other brands made in the same factories in Italy.”
“Unless the jean had some sort of gold-lining or built-in air-conditioning, it would be strange for jeans to be priced at $2,000.”
Standards Of Materials & Manufacturing
High-end denim often spruik features like Japanese selvedge, soft stretch denim or 100% hand made. The key points customers should be looking at when parting cash on jeans is what quality of material they’re willing to settle with.Selvedge is marketed as the holy grail of denim and priced accordingly (although there are some cheaper variants available). This denim type is created on narrow looms where the thread is continuous to create a natural “self-edge” – a thread which is self-closed and won’t unravel.Larger looms which are designed for mass production run multiple threads and can speed up the manufacturing process. The drawback here is that it leaves behind loose ends which require an overlock stitch to stop the thread unravelling. It’s really not a drawback but more so a kick in the nuts to the old ways of production in favour of profit. A well-made overlocked jean isn’t going to fall apart on you easily.“Bottom line is that, like all manufacturing, there is good production and poor production procedures,” says Alton.“This goes from materials to manufacturing process to labour to environmental responsibility.”“Nudie Jeans, take great pride in what we do and have always strived to be as sustainable as possible both environmentally and with the people making our clothes, and therefore happy to invest into these costs associated with environmental responsibilities and paying living wages.”The last part is quite interesting in that Nudie Jeans has been able to build that moral code into their branding – it’s essentially a win for the company and consumer given the latter cares about these things.
The Truth About Fancy Denim
This brings us to the million dollar question surrounding expensive jeans. Are you actually buying superior quality when you pay $2,000 for jeans? The answer is no, according to denim expert Bryce Alton.“The true cost of producing a jean will obviously vary depending on where, how and what you produce it from.”Jeans made in third world countries such as China will have much lower costs given the wages are generally non-conforming to standards. In most cases this also applies to jeans that are made in factories that don’t follow strict environmental policies, all of which can increase the product’s price/per unit.“A $1 ‘savings’ per/unit might sound small to you and I, but when you are talking about producing 10 million jeans per year in China, that is a saving of $10,000,000 – usually at the expense of the labour and environment.”“For a $200 jean vs a $2,000 jean, if they are both made in the same factory – Italy for example – I would say generally that the quality would be consistent and the discrepancy in the RRP would be a result of the brands themselves.”“Unless the jean had some sort of gold-lining or built-in air-conditioning, it would be strange for jeans to be priced at $2,000.”RELATED: 20 Best Jeans Brands For Men

If ever you were going to suit up for a spot of fish and chips at your local, this would be the right way to do it.Pop musician, actor, screaming board and young fashion icon Harry Styles fronted the latest campaign for Gucci which was shot on location at one of Britain’s most famous fish and chip shops. The story, according to Gucci, goes like this: “Chippy” – the original English takeaway which first opened in London in 1860, the fish and chip shop is a traditional fixture on many British streets, a place where people gather to buy battered cod, fried chips and mushy peas. Chippies today are often decades old and are routinely brightly lit, with a serving counter, tiled walls and white-and-pastel colour schemes. The chippy is a place where characters are found queueing and chatting, particularly on Friday nights, as they wait for their fish to fry.And so brings us to the current dapper campaign featuring Styles in Gucci’s latest tailored suits complete with waistcoats and blankets. It’s a contemporary collection which includes Styles rocking overcoats, formal shirts, ties, buttoned-up casual shirts, and moccasins, sandals and sneakers. To add a bit of quirkiness to the shoot, Styles is seen alongside dogs and a pet chicken – the latter of which is probably fearing for its life. You can find out what happens to chook in the campaign video below.

As much as every entrepreneur fancies him (or her) self a creative genius, there comes a point where the ideas dry up. Although a good idea won’t amount to anything without a bunch of hard work, if the idea is yawn-inducing to begin with—no amount of effort is going to turn it into a billion dollar unicorn.
Suffice to say: the ideation stage of a new business is crucial. This is where we come in. See, we interviewed three of Australia’s leading entrepreneurs, to get the lowdown on the best locations to come up with a successful business idea.
First up, we talked to Stevan Premutico: tech entrepreneur, investor & founder of Dimmi, who emphasised the importance of choosing a location that shakes you up a bit.
“For me it’s just about getting out of my normal zone and routine. When I do that, I find that my mind wonders and can be creative and free.”
For short breaks, he said, “I just love Byron Bay, such a beautiful, creative and inspiring energy. This is where I went a few months back to lock myself away for a few weeks to work on my next start-up idea. Just lots of yoga, reading, thinking & writing.” Other areas he recommends are, “The wine regions like Hunter Valley or Mornington Peninsula, the south coast—places like Jervis Bay. Anywhere by the beach, in big beautiful nature or surrounded by great food, coffee and wine.”
His recommendations for longer breaks, however, were further afield; “Iceland is like no other place on earth and it’s difficult not to be truly inspired and rejuvenated,” he said. Also, any aspiring entrepreneur, particularly in the IT industry should head to San Francisco, “Because it’s hard not to be inspired when every conversation around you is about how you can use tech to make the world a better place.”
He also spoke highly of the Camino de Santiago, “A thirty day walk from the Pyrenees in France right across Spain. Completely tech-free; just you and your back-pack. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever done. Just the most amazing way to surrender, be free, think, explore and perhaps… Crack your next big idea.”
Matt Jensen, founder of M.J Bale, shares this passion for backpacking. “Back in the day I hatched the plan to get into the clothing business when I was travelling through Scandinavia. I always carried a notepad with me and wrote down clothes that inspired me, as well as people, business names etc. as things started to take shape.”
And once you put yourself in a supposedly inspirational location? “When you go out adventuring and you see things you gotta write them down,” he said. “I get a bit bored sitting still. Summer or winter…I like going to the mountains—places with altitude, and countries that are culturally rich.”
“Later this year I’m heading off to Africa—one of the places on earth that’s changing very rapidly—so you need to get there quickly to see it.”
The responses of Jaime Gonzalez, founder of Limitless Living, continued this theme of seeking out diversity, and challenging yourself. “Go anywhere that challenges what you know, cultures that are diverse and will bring a new sense of wonder to the way of life you may be comfortable in,” he said.
“The most impactful trips have been when I’ve visited places where life is not taken for granted.”
He continued, “One of those places that made me really appreciate and ignite my own personal drive was visiting Malawi in Africa. Once you see and connect with people that struggle for the most basic things in life, but also can smile and have hope, you’ll never question your apparent problems again.”
And although we’d all love the luxury of heading overseas to recharge, for those that can’t find the time to get away; inspiration is still possible. As Stevan Premutico pointed out; “Ideas are sometimes born in the most random of locations. My idea for Dimmi was born on the back of a napkin whilst I sat in a cafe in London with a glass of wine, a bowl of pasta and the a free mind. Many of my better ideas for Dimmi happened around the Yoga mat.
“For inspiration nothing beats a good museum, a good book store, a good podcast, a good book or—best of all—great conversations with thought leaders and amazing people.”
The key takeaway for budding entrepreneurs is this: your best thinking comes when you are fresh; so make time to recharge. “For me,” Stevan said, “Taking a day here, a yoga session there, a weekend away from the phone etc. helped me become productive and a better leader. Do this and you will inspire a better business.”

If there was ever a strict dress code for a corporate environment, you can bet that sock sneakers aren’t on it.
Artist Will.I.Am didn’t get that memo and as a result he showed up to the recent Chivas Venture Clobal Final event in a smart casual outfit paired with the latest Balenciaga x Vetements Speed Sock kicks.
The sneakers alone were enough to raise eyebrows when they debuted to a mixed reception of “Are you even trying?” and “I could stick an old sock to a sole and save myself $1,000…”
Fashionistos eventually gravitated to it anyway. The issue isn’t so much the controversially designed sneaker today though, it’s more so the fact that it somehow crept its way into the work place and no one is saying anything. Are they, as the kids would say it, ‘fire’? Absolutely. Do they belong with a suit? Probably not.
Although if you were to throw caution to the wind and do it anyway, the Will.I.Am method would be your best bet of getting away with it.
The singer kept things clean and simple with black jogger pants, a black breton striped top and a black blazer. Off-setting the monochrome is a bright blue Zissou beanie with blue tinged specs and of course, the fresh AF Balenciaga kicks which help to break up the monotony with a ‘VETEMENTS’ logo bordered in red. It’s kind of like wearing your winter socks out on the town, but not really.
A look like this would normally pair better with crisp white sneakers but as the workplace changes, younger tech-based companies can get away with this look. We’d probably pull the pin on wearing sunglasses indoors though. That’s just being a tool.
Oh and whilst we’re here, the ladies can also get a shot at this uh, unique look. VETEMENTS sock heels, anyone?
