Gyms don’t exactly lend themselves to chic dress codes. Mirrors, sweat and suspect protein shakes are a fairly potent cocktail in the first place – add in subpar activewear and you’d be forgiven for never stepping foot in one again.
However, there are a few rules to follow when it comes to dressing appropriately for the gym, which we’re going to delve into below. Fortunately, with such a vast array of gym clothing brands available to men, navigating these rules couldn’t be simpler.
So, flex up and look sharp with this ultimate guide to what to wear to the gym.
Singlet & Shorts

The most basic of gym kits, everything you need for sweating it out rotates around the standard singlet and shorts. But with such a surplus of options, it can be a little daunting knowing where to start. The most important thing to remember is that you get the fit right. Remember, regardless of what size your pecs are, no one wants to see them spilling out of a stringlet.
When it comes to finding a top that’s appropriate and chic, look at the likes of Lululemon and Under Armour for interesting colours and weaves. A personal favourite is grey blues – they’re forgiving on sweat patches and are easy to pair with dark shorts.
Speaking of shorts, this is one of those times where less is more. And when I say less, I’m referring to less of your upper thighs. No one wants to see more than they bargained for when you’re doing a deadlift, so look at mid-length options that have a boy leg liner built-in.
Wearing Compression Tights In The Gym

It’s a truly brave chap that dons a pair of compression tights without covering up. However, for those that are a little more, ahem, demure, there is a way they can be worn that won’t cause offence to the rest of the weights room. Cue the classic jogging short. These fellas are a great way to feel all the freedom of tights without some of the unfortunate side effects.
When it comes to styling, build off a base of black 2XU compression tights, jogging shorts and a lightweight singlet. Make sure you choose slim fits that are in keeping with the streamlined nature of the look and prioritise dark block colours like black and navy.
Essential Trainers To Wear To The Gym

The shoes you wear in the gym can make or break your whole ensemble – choose a pair of chunky dad runners and you risk throwing off the equilibrium of your outfit; choose something with not enough support and you risk spraining an ankle. It’s a tricky trade-off.
Given that the bulk of gym activity doesn’t require long-distance running (at least, it shouldn’t) most cross-training sneakers from the likes of Adidas and Nike should fit the bill. Look for versatile colours like black and grey that can be paired with most of your kits to optimise wears.
On the flipside, if you’re a little more flamboyantly persuaded, regular sneakers can offer a great way to show some flare. Whether it be a pair of monogrammed kicks or a splash of colour and print – Nike Epic Reacts with hot pink detailing, I’m looking at you – sneakers are a great way to put a spring in your step, both literally and style-wise.
Many weightlifters like to wear Converse in the gym too, because they provide a relatively flat foot design, perfect for maximising coverage on the floor.
Choosing The Right Sports Socks

Sports socks have come a hell of a long way in the past few years. Whereas once, the chunky white tube sock was the ultimate sporty statement, recent style dictates a move to more streamlined, thinner equivalents.
When you’re shopping around, there are two versions worth considering. One is the standard ankle sock which will ideally sit below the top of your sneaker. These are great if you fancy getting your pegs out as they elongate your leg. Alternatively, the likes of Nike make a strong case for statement compression socks. Our preference are black socks as they’re less likely to show dirt.
Wear A Gilet During Colder Months

When it gets seriously chilly, sometimes a jacket alone won’t cut it. And that’s when the gilet really comes into its own. Warm without the intensity and bulk of a down jacket, the vest is the ultimate sports winter warmer.
Look for thin shell versions in blacks, greys and blues that can work with your broader kit and, whatever you do, avoid thicker versions that make you look like a Michelin man. They give you an incurable case of chicken legs – the opposite of what you want post squats.
Wear A Windbreaker During Warmer Months

It’s always the way that no sooner have you mastered the standard singlet and short combo, do you need to cover it all up for autumn and winter. With increasingly stylish options hitting the market in spades though, the activewear windbreaker is getting increasingly cool.
The key here is keeping it lightweight and slim fitted. It’s also worth looking for cool logos and hardware statements to ensure you stand out from the scrum. Sydney brand, P.E. Nation, has a great range with small pops of colour that can take you from a HIIT class to brunch in no time.
Gym Apparel FAQ
The difference is on the fit. Singlets are usually a snug fit, not allowing for sag or excess fabric. Tank tops may be tight fitting or loose fitting. Compression tights hold your muscles firmly in place and improve your blood flow. They also help reduce muscle fatigue and strain while boosting your athletic performance. Your gilet must fit just like you waistcoat. It must be snug around your body so it can sit nicely under your winter jacket. A gilet’s arm holes should also be high so it will fit more closely to the chest without bunching. What is the difference between a singlet and a tank top?

You may have heard of Concours d’Elegance in Lake Como and Pebble Beach…and now it’s little Sydney’s turn.
The Sydney Harbour Concours d’Elegance will be in its inaugural year for 2019 and it will faithfully coincide with the centenary of famed Italian coachbuilder Zagato, as well as the centenaries of Alvis, and Bentley.
The event which is supported by Ferrari will feature a stellar line up of precious automobiles from both the past and present era. The standouts to see includes the first Bentley to run at Le Mans in 1923 and the brand new British-built Australian race car, the Brabham BT62.
History fiends won’t be disappointed either with line up which includes the 1904 De Dion Bouton Populaire, a 1930 Rolls-Royce Phantom II, 1937 Alvis 4.3 litre by Vanden Plas, 1955 Porsche Pre A Speedster, 1960 Ferrari 250 Pinin Farina coupe, 1962 Aston Martin DB4 Vantage, 1963 Ferrari 250 GTE and many more.
Mini will also be celebrating its 60th anniversary at the event so it’s a packed schedule which will kick off at the beautiful grounds of Lindesay mansion, a National Trust property with uninterrupted views of the harbour from the 7th to the 9th of March.
Whilst the ability to rival its European and American cousins might be a bit difficult, the organisers have a simple goal for the Sydney Harbour Concours d’Elegance – to establish a motoring event of international sophistication and style the likes of which this country has never seen.
Sydney Harbour Concours d’Elegance is an invitation only motoring event of international sophistication which D’Marge is proud to be a media partner of. For enquiries and tickets drop by their website.

Getting ready for that mid-afternoon caffeine hit? Not so fast, latte lover.According to personal trainer Max Lowery, cold brew coffee should be the only coffee that you drink thanks to the newfound health benefits. So why the bean snobbery?Well firstly, there are those who can drink coffee and those who cannot thanks to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). What Lowery found was that cold brew coffee removes around 70% of the acidity which means that it doesn’t aggravate the gut lining in the same way regular coffee does.According to the findings published by Business Insider, cold brew also has a smoother and sweeter taste, something we can also attest to. What makes cold brew different to iced coffee is that it’s made without heat. The cold brew process involves steeping ground coffee beans in cold or room temperature water for 12 – 24 hours to extract the flavour. After drinking standard coffee religiously which was combined with his fasting, Lowery began suffering IBS. He switched over to cold brew instead and found an interesting result.“Traditionally, I am not a big coffee drinker because I like to keep myself super sensitive to caffeine, however towards the end of last year I did get into the habit of drinking regular coffee,” he told Business Insider.“Because I don’t eat until 1-2pm every day, I was drinking coffee on an empty stomach and after about 10 days of drinking coffee almost every day, I got very bad IBS symptoms, something I have never had to deal with before.”Lowery soon found that he wasn’t the only one. When drinking coffee on an empty stomach, people would often experience things like diarrhoea, abdominal pain, or bloating.“I did some digging and it turns out this is a common problem,” Lowery said. “Coffee is incredibly acidic and can cause inflammation of the gut lining. I was very surprised. Imagine how many people are dealing with this but don’t know that coffee is the root cause.”The personal trainer then did his own research to find that cold brew can remove 70% of the acidity found in coffee.RISE Brewing Co. CEO and co-founder Grant Gyesky told Business Insider that this was indeed the case.“Brewing coffee at colder temperatures has a dramatic impact of the acidity levels of the finished product, and it all comes down to science.”Why is that?“All coffee beans contain oils, and inside these oils are the fatty acids of the bean. During a normal hot brew process, the water is passed over the beans around a temperature of 93°C. At 60°C, the oils containing the acids are released from the beans into coffee making it more acidic.”“By maintaining colder temperatures during the brew, the oils in the beans are never released. Therefore, cold brewed coffee can be up to 70% less acidic than traditional hot drip coffee, which makes it easier on someone who struggles with IBS symptoms and gives it a much smoother and sweeter taste.”Lowery adds that one of the advantages of cold brew is that it’s naturally sweet so there’s no need to add sugar to hide the bitterness.

What happens in the bedroom stays in the bedroom, right? Wrong. In modern society, people like to talk and acts of intimate sex aren’t off-limits. This concept brings us to a recent Reddit discussion that looks at why women have a tendency to talk about their sex lives in graphic detail to their female friends.
A quick disclaimer: we’re not saying men never talk about our sex lives – most do – we just tend to do it with less graphic depiction as men don’t want their mates picturing their partners naked. Or them going at it like a rabbit during high season.
So what are the biggest concerns these men have? The fact that their partner’s girlfriends may know every minute detail of their penis, their (under) performance and how kinky they can get behind closed doors.
It’s All About Female Bonding…Apparently
One female respondent explains that it’s all a bonding experience to share stories of similar experiences – an “advice circle” of sorts.
“Lots of ‘so what do you do with a too big dick’ or ‘I don’t know how to do this kink’ or ‘has anyone tried anal and has any tips to make it comfortable?’ type talk.
Other talking points include things like: “His libido is weirdly low, should I be concerned?”, “Anyone have ideas for valentine’s day?” and so on.
“I’ve talked about penis size, in both directions,” the user adds.
“He was pretty small but it didn’t bother me at all, I thought he was bomb in bed. I don’t know why but that guy’s dick was the perfect size to make me come from sex. It’s almost too big. I can’t do some of my favourite positions with it.”
Another female Reddit user said that some women use it as a way to brag about their partner.
“It’s partly stroking our own ego and partly shitting on the other person for not having a man like theirs. And sometimes us girls just like to talk sex. So we talk about our sex life.”
Simple enough. This at least gives men some idea of how much women are willing to divulge.
Sometimes It’s Just About ‘Problem Solving’
They say that men like to solve problems but when it comes to the bedroom some women have their own focus groups.
One female Reddit user revealed that, “in my friend group we aren’t talking about how big you are, or if you were really bad…we’re more talking about things that confused us.”
“Like my friend would message me to ask if anyone had ever had someone go soft on them, and if that means he’s not into her anymore etc. Or why he didn’t kiss me after our date, or something like that. It’s more about counselling than anything. We don’t have group chats ripping apart the guys we’re sleeping with.”
Relieved? Here’s more to comfort you.
Another female Redditor said that, “with my girlfriends, it’s not a play-by-play of the encounter. It’s more like ‘this odd thing happened have you ever experienced this?'”
A male Redditor then chimed in saying that their friends don’t need to know.
Her reply? “But I’m gonna tell ’em anyways.”
So it appears that your penis isn’t the talk of the town, it’s about your performance.
A female Redditor added: “I have never discussed my partner’s penis in detail to anyone, not even my closest friends. We just mainly talk about techniques, experiences and if we have/had any problems in bed. I don’t know what their partner’s penis look like either.”
Not All Women Do It To
You might be as surprised as we were to hear that not all are fans of divulging their sex acts to their female friends. The bottom line is that it all comes down to preference.
“I think it depends on the woman,” said one female Reddit user. “I have never shared details with any of my gfs, ever. My sister on the other hand…”
Other women called out the act as “immature”.
“I don’t talk about my sex life with my friends. It’s our private life they don’t need to know about it. Only someone immature discuss every detail like they are in junior high. Talk to your partner, tell them that it’s our sex life and your relationship, not just theirs…Men, be with a woman not a girl. You deserve privacy also in the relationship.”
Whilst some women say they don’t talk about it, others will as long as they don’t know the guy they’re referring to.
“I keep my sex life fairly private,” says the female Redditor. “I’ve only talked about size to people that don’t know who I’m taking about. I have had women tell me their experiences and I will answer questions vaguely if it’s something that they need to know my experience with. I also tend to keep my relationship problems fairly private, especially to those who are friends with both of us.”
And finally, the deal clincher.
“No one talks specifics as an adult. We talk about sex, but mostly vaguely, usually about frequency. We talk about childbirth in far more detail than we do fucking.”
What Men Think About It
Many men could care less. Especially those who are confident in their own skin, but according to the Reddit discussion there are those who are totally against it.
“I don’t know but my wife was in the habit of telling everyone about my expertise in certain areas of our sex life,” revealed one male Redditor.
“Some of our friends would get uncomfortable and she’d usually share stuff when I wasn’t around. I told her off one day and said that what happens in our bedroom is between us. She stopped giving out information, but I honestly would like to try some things in bed, but won’t even bring them up for fear of her running her mouth.”
And yes, men get insecure too.
“At the time, I asked my now-ex if she talked to her friends about our sex life. She said yes, everything. Everything?! I mean, if everything is great, then it’s ok. But if something like ‘he got soft in the middle of sex’ or ‘he couldn’t get hard’, that’s something I’m not ok with. Size, technique and visuals do not bother me.”
From a D’Marge perspective, we’re not entirely bothered by it. Women talk just like men and it’s just to varying degrees. We just tend to be believers of ignorance is bliss. But if you are the type of guy to be insecure about your bedroom antics, here’s the way to make sure they only have good things to say about you.

A new year brings with it new and exciting airline food…no, we’re serious. That’s because we’re talking about JAL – one of the most fastidious airlines in the world run by one of the most fastidious nations in the world. For Spring 2019 Japan Airlines have revamped their first class and business class menu offerings which now sees 2 Michelin starred chef, Shinobu Namae at the helm of some of their dishes. For the unacquainted, Chef Shinobu Namae is the man behind Tokyo’s Michelin awarded French restaurant, L’Effervescence. As a graduate of Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck in Bray, Namae stepped out on his own and it wasn’t long until his restaurant earned its first Michelin star in 2011 before adding another one in 2015.From the 1st of March this year, business class passengers will be able to sample some of Chef Shinobu Namae’s dishes on international flights from Tokyo’s Narita and Haneda airports. So what’s on the culinary hit list?Think sirloin steak with port wine sauce or peppered butter, seafood with anchoïade sauce and elaborate sides like horse mackerel escabeche, asparagus with mustard, ratatouille with conger, and burdock salad. And we though our fancy meat pie was pretty damn impressive on our last Canadian business class flight.Instead of having one chef design their entire menu though, JAL enlisted the help of Japanese-French fusion chef Sota Atsumi to help out with the menu for first and business class passengers flying between Paris and Tokyo. Atsumi himself was the opening chef for the century-old Le Clown Bar – a joint which was eventually awarded the Best Bistro in France by restaurant guide Le Foding. The favourites haven’t been forgotten though. JAL have brought back its soba noodles from Tsusta, the world renowned 8-seat ramen restaurant which holds a Michelin star. The noodles offered by JAL will be paired with sauce combining chicken oil and truffle. Flick through the gallery to see some of JAL’s most exciting in-flight meals yet.

The 91st Annual Academy Awards is in full swing at the moment in Hollywood and one of the first celebrities to grab our attention off the ranks is Chadwick Boseman. Is it a suit? Is it an overcoat? Is it a dressing gown? The simple answer: it’s all of the above. As you can see from Boseman’s daring red carpet look, there’s definitely an extravagant tuxedo jacket there shod with dazzling metallic black and blue embellishments. Beneath that there’s no traditional shirt – that’s been replaced with with a black shirt with an oversized tie that harks back to the Victorian era.
We’re not done yet though. It appears that Boseman’s tuxedo jacket also features an elongated tail taken to the extreme. We’re not exactly sure if this look will ever take off beyond Hollywood awards season, but we guess you can’t argue that Boseman actually looks like the king of Wakanda showing up for an international summit meeting. The look was completed with conventional black trousers and pointed leather boots.
Did the king pull off his red carpet wardrobe? We’ll let you guys decide.
