Skinny jeans for men may conjure up images of unborn children, due to their restrictive fits. It’s a common cry amongst society for men who choose to rock skinny jeans in pursuit of style over comfort. Well, what if we told you that the art of skinny jeans no longer needs to be so bleak.
Once the domain of young punk bands and emo teens, skinny jeans have today grown up to be much more accommodating and friendly to the general male wardrobe. They’re not necessarily any looser, just more flexible and softer on a man’s nether regions. What this means is that the edgy style of skinny jeans is fully retained whilst its acceptance as a go-to menswear staple continues to grow.
David Beckham does it, Harry Styles does it. So does Kanye. And today it’s your turn to embrace the skinny jean to stylish new heights.
In This Story…
Types Of Skinny Jeans

There are two types of skinny jeans in today’s menswear space. Here’s the low down on tight denim.
Spray On Skinny Jeans
Spray on skinny jeans are your traditional type which is self-explanatory — they appear sprayed onto the legs and are usually a blend of cotton and stretch elastane. This significant addition of elastane means the jeans appear skin tight from the thighs to the ankles. Think something like a second skin that will get tighter and less comfortable as you eat or drink. On the flip side, these jeans will eventually stretch out a bit so if you can endure it then go right ahead.
Standard Skinny Jeans
These are the more friendlier version of skinny jeans which dominate the menswear scene today. Designed to hug the thighs with a slight taper towards the the lower part of the leg, they’re much less wrapped and more fitted. The ankles and looser hem allow for a range of cool footwear options from chelsea boots to white sneakers and loafers.
How To Wear Skinny Jeans For Men
Skinny Jeans With A T-Shirt
The most common and simplest way to rock skinny jeans is with a t-shirt. It’s a no brainer, takes little effort and is usually affordable (unless you’re gunning for designer tees which can retail for a thousand dollars). There’s no need to go high end. The rule with t-shirt and skinny jeans combos is colour contrast and fit. T-shirts can be fitted for a cleaner and sleeker look. If you’ve got the physique for it, the skinny jeans and fitted t-shirt combo can also do you wonders. At the other end of the spectrum you can also rock looser fitting t-shirts when the weather heats up. Linen tees are in at the moment as are low thread count cotton tees. The looser fit and stylised hems is enough to add edgy detail to any summer look. Pair it with white sneakers and you’ve got a bulletproof look on your legs. The one rule you need to follow here? Make sure the colour of your jeans are different to your t-shirt. Black jeans and a black shirt is the only exception here.
Skinny Jeans With A Collared Shirt

Taking your style up a notch is simple with skinny jeans and a collared shirt. The layering combinations are endless here whether you choose a single layer like a denim shirt or throw on a flannel shirt over a t-shirt. Your footwear options are also endless with anything from sneakers to leather boots to leather lace-ups. The same rule applies here with regards to colour contrast. Try to keep your skinny jeans colour different to your top. If you are going for a collared shirt that’s the same colour as your jeans, make sure there’s variation in tone and texture. Would you wear a banana suit out to the bar? No? Well the same applies to your collared shirt and skinny jeans combo. Break it up.
Skinny Jeans With A Sweater

Sweaters are skinny jeans’ best friends and they’re also ridiculously versatile. When they’re of the looser variety of sweater they can be seen on the artists like Kanye or Michael B. Jordan. It’s a casual affair that’s best paired to sneakers for that luxe street look. Opt for a fitted and knitted sweater though and it’s all about business casual. Just be careful not too go too tight t work though because no one wants to see your bean contouring and there are sexual harassment rules. Colour combinations are a bit more relaxed here so feel free to pair your jeans to your top whether it’s black on black or blue on blue.
Skinny Jeans With A Blazer

From here it’s all business. Well, almost. Spray-on skinny jeans are banned from blazer combos as they’re considered too casual for the workplace. A standard skinny jean however will work wonders for your casual Fridays look. Indigo is the most popular skinny jeans colour here as it’s the most versatile. Pair it with anything from a grey blazer to a black blazer to navy. It all works here but the one rule you need to follow is brown shoes whether that be lace-ups or loafers. Black shoes simply won’t work with indigo denim as it goes against the more casual aesthetic. When rocking black skinny jeans like Chris Hemsworth, black shoes are your go-to colour. Brown can also work here but the the slick look of a blazer and black denim combo is best suited to dark coloured shoes of the leather variety. If you need more inspiration check out our guide on how to wear jeans with a blazer.
Skinny Jeans With A Jacket

Finally we have the always dependable jacket. Skinny jeans play nice with just about any jacket type and the limitation is bound only by your personal style. The most common skinny jeans and jacket combo you’ll see these days is with a bomber jacket, a leather jacket, a denim jacket, field jackets and outerwear jackets. We recommend breaking up the colour of your jacket with the jeans as these are both statement pieces and shouldn’t blend into one another. For an extra layering effect simply throw on a shirt underneath, tuck it in and you have one killer outfit that oozes cool. Shoes are varied here depending on your casual or semi-formal look, so play it by ear and occasion. Sneakers, leather boots and lace-ups dress shoes are all fair game here. Just no loafers because it’s plain odd wearing summer footwear with winter gear.
Skinny Jeans FAQ
If you cannot easily pull your skinny jeans past your calves or thighs, they are too small and you need to go up one size. Your jeans should fit snugly against your skin, but you should still be able to pinch about an inch of slack at the top of you thigh. Skinny jeans will not look good with very slim and tall men, as they will draw attention to their thin legs. In the same way, they do not fit men with big upper body (too muscular or round), as they will create an exaggerated imbalance in appearance. Light coloured skinny jeans are great for casual occasions since you can pair them with a plain, fitted t-shirt or a casual shirt. Darker colours are easily styled for both day and nightwear. How to tell if your skinny jeans fit you?

Not many men can do what John Legend does. He sings, he acts, he fathers like a champion. And now he’s showing you the secret pulling off the ultimate West Coast summer look with nothing more than three simple garments and a pair of sneakers. That level of understated achievement in the menswear space is unheard of these days thanks to the breadth of styles and accessories constantly pushed.Taking the concept of less is more instead, Legend completely ditched the watch, tie, pocket square and socks for a totally pared down aesthetic at the Quay x Chrissy Teigen launch in West Hollywood earlier this week. The smooth crooner got the job done with a slick linen suit in a light pastel purple hue, a colour which isn’t the easiest to pull off. It was further paired to a white dress shirt with a multi-coloured animated print. And the secret to making any suit summer friendly? Undo two to three buttons from the top button.
The very cool summer look was rounded out with suede grey sneakers which makes for a very welcome change to white sneakers. Think of this technique as adding polish through textures rather than loud detailing.Simply legendary, John Legend.

Australians have lost $14.76 million on cryptocurrency scams this year alone, and that’s only the scams which have actually been reported to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
The ACCC has warned people to be vigilant against scams of all kinds, reporting that losses reported to the agency from scams expected to reach a whopping $532 million by the end of the year.
Should it hit that mark, it would be the worst year for scams on record.
Typical scams involve ‘romance scams’ or calls from scammers purporting to be the Australian Tax Office, but this year has seen the rise and rise of cryptocurrency scams.
The ACCC said $14.76 million had been lost in crypto scams alone from January to the end of July – with broader investment scam losses reaching $36.95 million.
That’s up over 13 per cent year on year.
“Our advice is to be wary of ads you see on the internet,” ACCC deputy chair Delia Rickard said.
“Don’t be persuaded by celebrity endorsements or ‘not to be missed’ opportunities. You never know for certain who you’re dealing with or whether they’re credible.”
Fake celebrity endorsements for cryptocurrency scams have been on the rise over the past year or so. In one instance Shark Tank Australia judges were falsely depicted as piling into a crypto company.
A scam in action
In 2018 Shark Tank Australia judges were quick to raise the alarm after their likenesses were used in ‘fake news’, claiming that they had invested in fake company Bitcoin Trader.
One ad which ran on social media claimed judges Steve Baxter and Glen Richards engaged in a bidding war for the company – which never happened.
The ‘article’ claimed that fellow judge Janine Allis bought $250 worth of Bitcoin during the conveniently unaired episode, seeing her investment rise by $73 in three minutes.
“I’m still in shock, I deposited $250 live on the show and it immediately returned a $73.18 profit after just 3 minutes. That is the biggest and fastest return I’ve ever seen after 3 minutes. This thing is legit,” the article claims Allis said.
“Bitcoin Trader has been the greatest investment I’ve ever made! The business has been growing at over 2,400% this year alone. And as a user of the platform, my Bitcoin trading profits have increased by 320% on virtual autopilot,” Baxter also said… apparently.
Facebook has even gone as far as to invest in scam reporting tools after a proliferation of scam ads on the platform claiming UK investment commentator Martin Lewis was an investor in various crypto schemes led Lewis to sue it for defamation.
The ACCC has set up a dedicated site to report scams — which you can find here. It has also set up a register of companies you should not deal with, which you can find here.

Over the last few years, Australians have made a concerted effort to eat healthier. This has come along with the exultation of fat and protein, and the demonisation of refined carbohydrates and sugar, spearheaded by Paleo Pilgrims cum Keto Warriors.
The result? A low carb explosion. Whether it’s tradies talking about elk, hipsters milking almonds or suburban parents trading their morning pinot for bulletproof coffee, no one is exempt.
The nadir is hard to pinpoint. But when historians look back at Australia’s Crossfit Era the moment the first 21st-century office worker attempted a 20-ingredient Paleo Smoothie is likely to be a prime candidate.
Anyway: we’re not here to argue health – on that front Paleo and Keto diets certainly have some benefits. However, when it comes to visiting Italy, carb-averse tourists have a nasty shock in store.
You’ll either starve or be laughed out of the country. Just kidding. You will miss out on all the best food though.
View this post on Instagram
But that’s point-adjacent. The main reason Italians don’t understand Australia’s obsession with dieting is because World Bank statistics show they live longer than us, despite their higher rates of smoking, drinking and (most controversially) pasta-eating.
And that’s not to mention the mental benefits of selective hedonism: an art centuries in the oven.
This culture clash was yesterday illustrated, Michelangelo style, when fashion blogger Nicole Warne made headlines for complaining about the iconic Ristorante Hotel Grotta Palazzese’s refusal to accommodate her request for a meat, dairy and gluten free meal.
To be fair to her, she requested a vegan, gluten-free meal three months in advance and the Puglia restaurant did not accommodate. But to be fair to the restaurant: it’s hard to imagine any vegan, gluten-free meal being anything but disappointing when plated next to a traditional Italian feast.
Plus, even though her friend, who tried the whole menu, also found it “underwhelming” it seems highly unlikely they would have posted that if not for the restaurant’s refusal to come up with a separate menu just for her.
While some of her 1.7 million followers were sympathetic (“I found it exactly the same four years ago”), others were not.
“You literally have an intolerance to every kind of Italian food ingredient, I don’t think this is a fair review.”
Anyway (and finally), in terms of nutrition, there are three serious observations to be made.
First: eating hearty Italian food makes you less likely to eat sugary snacks between meals.
Second: while pasta is a refined carbohydrate, it is also typically lathered in fresh meat, healthy oils and vegetables, which allows your body to process the meal as a whole, preventing the insulin spike that might occur if you ate a bowl of white San Remo with nothing but ketchup.
Third: If counting ‘macros’ was crucial to the human form, Michelangelo would have sculpted it.

You can certainly tell the world a lot about your character just by choosing the right pair of glasses. Whether you’re looking for a neat and sophisticated look to accompany your tailored attire, or bolder, large rims to bring together a more creative ensemble, there’s a lot to consider when choosing the right pair to buy.
Back in the day, we were led to believe that anyone who wore glasses was a geek, the ugly duckling, four-eyes, the social outcast. How times have changed.
Move forward to today and you’ll come across people with perfect 20/20 vision throwing on a pair. Why? Because glasses look so darn good – whilst making you feel stylish and confident.
There are three major things to consider when purchasing your next pair of reading frames, all of which are equally important. Do they complement the shape of your face? Are they practical (nobody wants big, heavy readers)? And are they going to work with what you wear?
Think about what you wear regularly – whether it’s t-shirts, jeans, suits, business attire, casual clothing, etc. – and try to pick glasses that’ll complement your usual ensemble.
Different types of materials used to make glasses
Reading glasses are constructed from a range of materials that depend on the designer’s intended audience, budget, and the anticipated lifestyle of the wearer. Plastic and metal are the most common, but hybrid and natural alternatives are growing in the market.
Acetate Frames
Although acetate is a form of plastic, its omnipresence in eyewear warrants an entry of its own. Acetate is derived from renewable cotton and wood semi-synthetics. Although the process depends on the designer, acetate is usually created by reforming the plastic (through heat or compression) into moulded blocks, then laminating it into sheets that are then hand-cut into frames. Acetate offers a number of benefits to opticians.
They are generally more flexible and can be crafted into different shapes. Acetate frames and stems can be coloured efficiently, which doesn’t corrode with time or sun exposure. Acetate is also hypoallergenic, helping you save face (literally) from the potential embarrassment of a nasty reaction to the frame materials. They might be pricier than other plastics, but they’re universal for damn good reasons.
Plastic Frames
The everyman of eyewear. Plastic frames – made from TR-90, polymer, and other synthetics, are exploding in popularity. These are usually (but not always) created through an injection moulding process. This involves heating the plastic into a liquefied solution, then pouring the plastic into a predetermined set to construct the frame.
This process is quick as lightning and cheaply facilitates mass production. Unlike acetate frames, plastics are sprayed or painted and thus lose their colour easily, especially with robust wear. However, they are favoured for everyday wear as they are lighter than other frames and don’t obliterate any of your spendings account in the process. Plastics are overtaking metal frames on the market for these reasons and their market share has adjusted accordingly.
Metal Frames
Many metal frames are flexible and easily adjustable (such as flexon memory metal and beryllium) and can be combined with acetate to conform to the shape of the wearer’s head. Metal frames also resist corrosion and maintain their colour better than plastic.
They are, however, more expensive than mass-produced cellulose frames, and can pose an allergy risk to susceptible wearers.
Wood Frames
A recent (and trendy) entry on the market, wooden frames sit outside the normal hierarchy of eyewear. Wood frames are lightweight, flattering on most complexions, and ethically sourced. Bamboo frames, for example, don’t require the use of environmentally corrosive products such as plastic or petroleum derivatives, making them an eco-friendly option. Brands that offer these frames also like to remind customers that bamboo is bio-degradable and regenerates quite easily.
Therefore, for environmentally-conscious shoppers, they’re an excellent alternative that is becoming a solid competitor to acetate and metal frames. They can even be lighter than featherweight plastic frames, making them a solid choice for prolonged wear. They are, however, delicate and don’t tolerate the punishment you can subject to metal eyewear to (so don’t sit on them or drop them).
Tortoiseshell Frames
Tortoiseshell frames are advertised everywhere, but there’s more to them than meets the eye. Today, brand descriptions refer to the colour – not the construction itself. Today, ‘Tortoiseshell’ frames are no longer constructed from real tortoiseshells, due to obvious ethical implications. After a prolonged uproar, they’re now made from acetate or other plastic derivatives.
Designers modify the stem and frames through various processes to achieve the artful discolouration and thus replicate the unique patina that made tortoiseshell frames iconic. This provides wearers with the timeless cool of a vintage tortoiseshell frame, without harming innocent sea creatures. Win-win.
Hybrid Frames
As technology rockets towards the future, hybrid frames are taking off. In an attempt to distinguish their collections from the humdrum of mass production, brands are now offering cutting-edge frames from proprietary materials – often blends of plastic, metal, and rubber. However, hybrid frames aren’t for budget shoppers. Due to the manufacturing process and cost of materials, they are usually featured in specialist or luxury collections and might discourage the everyday guy from purchasing them.
Ask yourself if metal or acetate can’t do the job before walking into the optometrist without a decent monetary cushion in your back pocket.

Well that’s awkward. When you’re Drake though you can pretty much dress as you like without needing to abide by many dress codes.Case in point, Drake’s latest sighting at the Hublot Collectors Dinner in Miami. The Canadian rapper was spotted amongst good company on the night with colleagues like French Montana rocking Hublot gear as you’d expect.Drake instead opted for his insane diamond studded Nautilus 5719/10G with 1,343 diamonds encrusted on the watch’s unmistakable face and bracelet. The price? Not officially listed on Patek’s site but on other retail sites it’s priced at anywhere between US$350,000 – US$430,000.Drake paired the extravagant timepiece with a simple baby blue Bob Marley print shirt which featured photos of the music legend all over. His pants were nothing to write home about which consisted of simple black jeans and suede black boots. All in all it was a simple outfit which works fine for any summer party in Miami, one would assume. $400,000 watch not included. Here’s a closer look at the Patek Philippe Nautilus on Drake’s wrist. Besides the 1,343 diamonds, the watch features a 40mm white gold case alongside a date function. Just another day in the life of Drake. Good luck trying to pull this one off with your next summer dinner party outfit.

Losing weight is like slogging against a steeply-inclined treadmill with a broken “off” switch. But it doesn’t have to be this way. In fact, shed this metabolism myth and that rabid treadmill might start feeling more like a gentle downhill slope. As Graeme Tomlinson, a nutrition coach who goes by the name of The Fitness Chef recently revealed, in a world where people take their nutrition cues from Instagram Stories, their workouts from influencers and their meal plans from 10 second Facebook videos, it’s easier than ever to be taken in by the promise of “metabolism-boosting” diets. But according to Graeme, the truth is, contrary to what a select group of fitness gurus seem to have decided back in 2006, “you don’t need to alter your bodies [sic] metabolic performance to lose fat.”
According to Graeme, the “logic and evidence” for diets which encourage consistent snacking in order to speed up one’s metabolism remain “unproven and unknown.”“If we take the metabolic process involved in food digestion (thermos effect of feeding), we know that this process uses energy,” he says. “Given that fat loss requires you to be in an energy deficit, it sounds logical to claim that we can burn more calories by digesting food regularly – because we can.”The problem? The calories we eat also count in the balance of energy and “they count a heck of a lot more than the energy used metabolising food.”
“The truth is, consuming food regularly as a means to boost your metabolism is just another unnecessary and unfounded fat loss myth. If you were to consume 1800 calories per day across six 300 calorie meals, you would probably burn around 10% during digestion (30 calories burned per meal and 180 in total). But if you consumed 1800 calories per day across two 900 calorie meals using the same principle, you would burn 90 calories per meal and still 180 in total. It ends up the same.”
“Attempting to alter your metabolism to lose fat,” Graeme adds, “is another pointless, pseudoscientific process that clouds one’s mindset.” According to Graeme, the implications for this are twofold. Firstly: you don’t need to eat breakfast if you don’t want to. And secondly: you can have big meals less frequently if that suits your daily routine. So although Graeme has had skirmishes with Keto diet advocates in the past, when it comes to the importance (or the lack thereof) of meal regularity he appears to be on the same page.Overall though, he still differs to the low carb gurus in that he believes “adherence to a realistic, sustainable calorie deficit over a period of time” is more important for weight loss rather than cutting out certain food groups in favour of protein and fat.
