You Can Now Get One Of The World's Best Whiskies…At Aldi
You Can Now Get One Of The World's Best Whiskies…At Aldi

Don’t knock it until you try it. That common saying has never been truer than today thanks to a German supermarket chain and its £17.49 (AU$28.50) whisky.

The winning drop is also the cheapest
And what’s so damn special about a damn whisky from Aldi might you ponder? Quite a lot in fact. The Glen Marnoch Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky stocked by Aldi has taken home the gold medal during a blind taste test at this year’s renowned Spirits Business Scotch Whisky Masters. That accolade was enough to see the affordable bottle beat out the silver medal-winning Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve which is roughly double the price at £37.45. Sitting in the same Speyside category which also received gold was the 14-year-old Tomatin Port Wood Finish which retails for £53.Those who think that Aldi won it by luck should also know that the supermarket has been on a pretty decent run with its liquor of late. Their £12.99 (AU$21.05) Highland Black 8-year-old Whisky took out the silver medal to bring the brand’s overall whisky medal count to five to date. Not content with that, Aldi even took out a gold medal in the gin category at the International Wine and Spirits Competition last month with a bottle of their £9.97  (AU$16) Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin.Now for the kicker. These award-winning drops are only available at U.K Aldi stores. But hey, we’re sure it’s still worth shipping over the goods even if the freight costs more than the actual drink itself.

Major News If You Want To Own A Hypercar & Live In Australia
Major News If You Want To Own A Hypercar & Live In Australia

Amidst the current turmoil that is the Australian government, there comes some reprieve…if you can afford million dollar hypercars.

One of each sounds like a great idea

The Turnbull government yesterday made the announcement on a revised bill which could allow the import of left-hand drive supercars and hypercars into Australia by 2019. This essentially means seeing exotics like the LaFerrari, McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder and Bugatti Chiron rolling around on public roads for the first time ever.

The press release came via the minister for urban infrastructure, Paul Fletcher MP, who will submit the revised bill by the year’s end. In this bill there will be a push to “modernise and strengthen the laws governing road vehicles when first supplied to the Australian market”.

In laymen terms that means the government is trying to simplify the regulatory process for importing cars onto Australian soil. This will include looking at the processes behind vehicle recalls, alignment with international standards, the implementation of theft deterrent devices and of course, the importation of irregular vehicles.

More specifically it will outline the changes to the definition of a specialist and enthusiast vehicle. In the past, bringing such a vehicle into the country would require it to satisfy two of four criteria. With the new bill, hopeful importers and car collectors will only need to meet one of the six criteria outlined below.

Performance: a new graduated threshold formula measured from 110 kilowatts per Tonne (kW/T) in 1992, increasing by 1 kW/T each year after.

Environmental Performance: an objective vehicle technology based on an alternate power source to internal combustion or a micro-car subcategory for low power (low emissions) vehicles.

Mobility: originally manufactured or fitted from the factory with substantive specialist mobility features to assist people with disabilities.

Rarity: total worldwide production of the vehicle ‘Make’ is less than 3000 units per year; or total worldwide production of the vehicle ‘Model’ is less than 1000 units per year; or total worldwide production of the vehicle ‘Variant’ is less than 100 vehicles per year. Left-hand drive vehicles imported under the rarity criterion will not require conversion to right-hand drive but will need state or territory agreement for use on their roads.

Left-hand drive: originally manufactured as a left-hand drive vehicle and not available as an originally manufactured right hand drive vehicle in another world market. These vehicles will require conversion to right hand drive for safety reasons.

Campervans and Motorhomes: originally manufactured as a campervan or motorhome.

Based on those guidelines, the door is left open for elusive left-hand drive supercars and multi-million dollar hypercars to roam local roads with proper registration. Sceptics of the new bill passing Government will be glad to hear that it’s not just talk as usual. The earlier changes proposed back in February were found not to be cost-effective for consumers so they went back to the drawing board and came up with this latest bill.

“Weighing these issues up against the modest benefits of the personal import arrangements – including price reductions estimated to be less than 2 per cent across the market – the Government has concluded that the benefits do not justify the cost and complexity of this particular change,” Fletcher explained.

“The reforms will provide increased consumer choice including by streamlining and improving the existing pathways for importing specialist and enthusiast vehicles.”

Now that the hard part is done, it’s time to ask the boss for that 900% pay rise and pick an iconic supercar to buy.

John Boyega's Suit Colour Requires Jedi Bravery To Pull Off
John Boyega's Suit Colour Requires Jedi Bravery To Pull Off

It’s due time we talked about John Boyega’s style. More specifically, his suiting style.

He has a reason to smile

The breakout Star Wars actor and upcoming Jaeger pilot in Pacific Rim 2 has been making waves on the red carpet for his interesting and often louder choice in suit colours. Our verdict? It’s a winner and on a more collective front he’s paving the way for men to embrace the less conservative when it comes to tailoring.

Let us proceed with the dissection.

Staring with the shoes, Boyega opts for a sharp pair of red-brown Oxfords complete with contrasting polished toe cap. This colour effortlessly lends itself to the suit whilst grabbing just enough attention with the high polish minus the gaudy real estate agent look.

All about that marsala

Moving onto the suit, we have a tone of brown which is actually more marsala (you can find out about this trending colour here). It’s a brave move not so much because of the fit but because of its difficulty in matching with other items.

As always though, the white dress shirt saves the day and makes for a great colour for what is essentially a caramelised onion hue. Also pay attention to Boyega’s accessories like a pocket square in the same colour but in a sheen finish to add a bit of pop. The tie is textbook move which matches the suit colour but adds detail with a fine grid pattern.

A classic combo in a rare colour

Finally we have to talk about those sunglasses. Boyega chooses the perfect sunglasses to match his face shape and this alone helps to complete the suiting look. There’s no attention grabbing tones on these sunglasses, just a simple black number which lets the vintage design do most of the heavy lifting.

And if you’re still sceptical about his penchant for dressing outside of the box, simply take a look at his Instagram.

No issues with green here.

And the same goes for tribal print.

The moral of the story? Take a page out of Boyega’s rulebook and break the rules. Here’s where to shop for an affordable burgundy suit.

Unique Retreats: A Rwandan Eco-Lodge Built Into An Eroded Volcano
Unique Retreats: A Rwandan Eco-Lodge Built Into An Eroded Volcano

Six thatched villas have popped up on a hillside near Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. The pod-like structures belong to the new eco-resort Bisate Lodge, and take their design inspiration from the King’s Palace at Nyanza. But that’s hardly the most remarkable thing about them, because this is no ordinary hillside – it’s an eroded volcanic cone. The word bisate means ‘pieces’ in Kinyarwanda, a reference to the once-whole cone that has been worn away by natural erosion. Bisate Lodge was designed by Nicholas Plewman Architects as part of an effort to honour local culture while restoring the indigenous forest. The huts pay homage to the natural landscape with a shape that echoes the surrounding hills and stone cladding that nods to the region’s ancient volcanoes. Inside, the décor comes courtesy of local fashion entrepreneur Teta Isibo, who focused on creating a characteristically Rwandan aesthetic.“As a designer who focuses on fusing traditional Rwandan craftsmanship with contemporary design, the Bisate project is super exciting for me, as I feel its design embodies this same principle,” said Isibo. “I’d love to achieve a strong local flavour, one that is envisioned by the whole team, and to make the lodge look and feel authentically Rwandan.”To that aim, Isibo integrated textiles, texture, upcycling, and the local imigongo art form (which uses hardened, coloured cow dung to create geometric patterns) into the interiors of Bisate Lodge. Each villa has its own living room and en-suite bedroom, and is set around a central volcanic stone fireplace. Emerald green chandeliers made from recycled glass hang from ceilings. Cowhide rugs dot the floors. Guests enjoy the views of the Karisimbi, Bisoke, and Mikeno volcanoes from their private decks. That authentic Rwandan flavour is also reflected in the seasonal menus of Bisate Lodge, which fuse Rwandan flavours and ingredients with contemporary international cuisine. To minimise Bisate’s environmental footprint and contribute to community development, the retreat sources the majority of its produce from an in-house kitchen garden and from neighbouring farms.Bisate Lodge is set on a 103-acre property within easy driving distance of Volcanoes National Park, where visitors can embark on morning treks to view the region’s famous mountain gorillas. Other Lodge activities are rooted in the resort’s commitment to sustainability. Guests can plant trees as part of a reforestation programme, visit local schools, sample the goods at the nearby Gato Keza coffee farm, and participate in other community-engagement opportunities.“We wanted to ensure that our brand of responsible ecotourism made a real difference to both rural Rwandan people and biodiversity conservation,” said Grant Woodrow, COO of Wilderness Safaris, the sustainable ecotourism operator behind Bisate Lodge.Reservations for this stunning retreat can now be made through the website, starting at US$1,100 per person per night.

Aston Martin Is Building The Car No One Asked For (But You'll Still Love It)
Aston Martin Is Building The Car No One Asked For (But You'll Still Love It)

Aston Martin is adding two new family members to its iconic Vanquish Zagato family.

This year’s Concours d’elegance at Pebble Beach will see the arrival of a roofless Speedster model and, wait for it, a Shooting Brake. That’s right, an official Aston Martin wagon which no one asked for but will still welcome with open arms like a long lost son with wheels for limbs.

The pair will join the existing Zagato line up which already boasts the Vanquish coupe and convertible to make for a very exclusive quartet of cars to bear the signature Zagato aesthetics. To the uninitiated, that means bladed LED tail lights and a three-dimensional Zagato Z logo emblazoned across the front grille and rear vents as penned by the Italian design house.

As of 2016, the Vanquish Zagato coupe and Volante convertible have both received a production run of 99 vehicles. The Shooting Brake will also receive this same production run with the exception of the Zagato Speedster which will be limited to just 28 examples.

Under the bonnet the cars will all receive the same powerplant and drivetrain as the Vanquish S. That means a 5.9-litre V12 capable of delivering 430kW to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automated manual transmission. Carbon fibre body panels also help these beasts move with an expected 0 -100km/h sprint time of 3.5 seconds.

But back to the Shooting Brake. The wagon will be a two-seater only whilst the elongated roofline will bear the hallmark Zagato double-bubble design. To make the most of this, glass panelling was added to the roof to let light into the cabin.

And the million dollar question of why they even built it? Because a select group of buyers of the first coupe wanted something different and more extreme, according to Aston Martin design boss Marek Reichman.

Those thinking of putting down a deposit on one are already too late. Aston Martin have confirmed that all of the cars have been spoken for. So in other words, keep an eye out for them at next year’s auctions.

Conor McGregor Has Achieved The Impossible With These Pants
Conor McGregor Has Achieved The Impossible With These Pants

Florals. There, we said it. Often banished to the world of high fashion walkways or dearest mother-in-law’s luncheon wardrobe, floral pants have rarely set foot amongst the domain of self-proclaimed men of masculinity (and good taste).

That all changed yesterday with Conor McGregor breaking yet another style rule to prove that floral pants can indeed grace the legs of men – when they’re done right.

The images were posted on McGregor’s Twitter feed, spruiking his ongoing relationship with the now infamous ‘F*uck You’ suitmaker, David August.

In his latest quest to redefine the fashion rulebook, McGregor paired a simple white v-neck with sky blue trousers featuring dark blue floral prints all over. Pay attention to the lack of belt here for a cleaner look, something we’ve touched on before.

He polished off the look with a simple pair of navy boat sneakers and a watch which is probably worth more than our left kidney. We suggest that if you’re game enough to go down the McGregor route, keep things perfectly fitted and colour blocking to a conservative level.

Also pair the florals with a plain top to ensure you don’t look like a villain out of Joel Schumacher’s campy Batman movies.

Musician, songwriter, fashion model, clothing designer, author, actor, philanthropist. It would seem that there’s absolutely nothing Dougie Lee Poynter can’t do and it’s making us sick. In a good way.

Leaving behind all of his other unworldly talents behind for a moment, Poynter is quite the smooth operator when it comes to wardrobe choices. His blonde locks often make way for a bohemian surfer style with a subtle hint of rockstar vibes.

The result? He’s one of the best guys to take after if casual-cool is the look you’re going for in 2017.

And also, don’t forget to address the headwear and masculine jewellery.

Infiniti Goes Back In Time With A Classic Grand Prix Racer

There will be no shortage of extravagance at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance with Japanese outfit Infiniti revealing the Prototype 9, a serious throwback grand prix race car with a modern twist.Under the sleek steel skin of this single seater is a rear-mounted 120kW electric motor capable of delivering 320Nm of torque. That’s not bad considering an 890kg kerb weight, and it also manages to shine some light on the more production-friendly Nissan Leaf in which it shares the same power unit with. That’s enough to get the Prototype 9 from 0 – 100km/h in 5.5 seconds before topping out at 170km/h. Track time might be an issue though with a shrunken down battery providing just 20 minutes of drive time between charges. That’s about where the modern day touches stop and a hint of the industrial revolution of the 1920s and 30s returns. The entire steel frame is hand beaten over a laser cut steel frame whilst the intricate front grille section was crafted using two seven axis robots. The result is a beautiful piece of machinery which effortless straddles the line between vintage racer and 2017. And yes it does get the authentic skinny wire mesh wheels and tyres of yesteryear. For a look at a more production-friendly electric supercar, check out the Tesla Model S P90D because you can bet this is not one Infiniti you’ll be seeing on public roads anytime soon.
