An Airbus A340 has landed in Antarctica for the first time ever.
It was flown by Hi Fly, a charter airline based in Portugal, which specialises in wet leases (i.e. they hire out both aircraft and crew and are responsible for insurance and maintenance).
Hi Fly 801 took off from Cape Town, South Africa on Tuesday, November the 2nd. The plane was commissioned by Wolf’s Fang, a bougie adventure camp on Antarctica, and brought much-needed supplies to the boutique resort.
Wolf’s Fang is run by high-end Antarctica tourism company White Desert. Hi Fly 801 was led by Captain Carlos Mirpuri, who is also Hi Fly’s vice president.
The flight from Cape Town to Antarctica took five and a half hours, and the crew spent less than three hours in Antarctica, before flying back to Cape Town.
Fox Carolina reports: “The blue-ice runway at the Wolf’s Fang property is designated a C Level airport, despite not technically being an airport. That means that only highly specialized crew can fly there due to challenging conditions.”
Fox Carolina also cited Mipuri’s captain’s log, which read: “The cooler it is the better.”
“Grooving is carved along the runway by special equipment, and after cleaning and carving we get an adequate braking coefficient; the runway being 3,000 meters long, landing and stopping an A340 that heavy on that airfield wouldn’t be a problem.”
The blue glacial ice the run way is built on is almost a mile thick and can easily support a fully-laden A340. But “one of the greatest hazards,” according to The Daily Mail, “is the glare off the snow and ice.”
“The reflection is tremendous, and proper eyewear helps you adjust your eyes between the outside view and the instrumentation. The non-flying pilot has an important role in making the usual plus extra callouts, especially in the late stages of the approach,” Mipuri said, The Daily Mail reports.
Mipuri also reportedly said: “There is also no visual glide slope guidance, and the blending of the runway with the surrounding terrain and the immense white desert around, makes height judgment challenging, to say the least.”
“The altimeters in cold weather also suffer from temperature errors, and need adjustments.”
The landing went perfectly to plan though, with Mipuri saying the A340 is a plane that “delivers, every time.”
CNN Travel reports: “The first recorded flight to Antarctica was a Lockheed Vega 1 monoplane in 1928, piloted by George Hubert Wilkins, an Australian military pilot and explorer.”
“He took off from Deception Island in the South Shetland Islands. The project was funded by William Randolph Hearst, the wealthy American publishing tycoon. Short exploratory flights like these were how scientists and mapmakers got vital information about Antarctica’s topography.”
CNN Travel added: “Since the vast majority of people get to the White Continent via ship, seeing the A340 landing on an ice runway is certainly dramatic – and means there will likely be more such landings in the future.”

Antarctica still doesn’t have any official airports, but there are about 50 runways strewn around the land mass used by researchers and other visitors.

Crypto.com is “the world’s fastest-growing crypto app.” At the end of June 2021, it was worth just US $0.091. Now it’s sitting at US $0.76, and appears to be on a zero eating mission. But is now a dumb place to jump on in? Is Crypto.com Coin (CRO) going to keep increasing in price or is it better to wait for a pull back? Or could it crash completely?
First, let’s understand a little more about what Crypto.com is. Crypto.com, as we mentioned, calls itself the world’s fastest-growing crypto app, which allows you to buy crypto at true cost. It’s essentially a platform for buying and selling crypto, like Binance or CoinSpot. Though some people have found it too slow to deposit funds and moved onto other crypto trading apps, others really believe in it and love it. Especially the app’s coin: CRO.
Crypto.com Coin (CRO) is the native token of the Crypto.com Chain – a tool created to build a network of crypto projects, and develop companies’ ability to accept crypto as a form of payment. The Crypto.com chain aims to make the transaction flows between crypto users and merchants easy, cost-efficient and safe. The driving idea is to let people do more with their crypto than just hold onto it.
Basically, Crypto.com Coin is the coin of a promising crypto payment system (which is admittedly currently being ballooned by hype).
Its native coin (CRYPTO: CRO) has been surging like crazy lately, with the surge placing CRO as the 13th-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, just below Dogecoin (CRYPTO:DOGE) and Shiba Inu (CRYPTO:SHIB), in the 11th and 12th spots, respectively (at the time of writing).
This week’s skyrocketing continues a trend of strong momentum from last week, when Crypto.com payed US $700 (AU $969) million to put its name on the Staples Center in Los Angeles (home of the Los Angeles Lakers) for the next two decades – the largest-ever naming rights deal in history, which sent its price increase on even more of an upward tear.
Although the hallowed NBA ground (The Staples Center) won’t officially be called “Crypto.com Arena” until Christmas Day, when the transition happens millions of eyes will be on it, as the arena will be hosting one of the most-watched games in basketball on that day. Talk about shining a spotlight on a brand.
Such a huge naming-rights deal could be seen as a giant liability (for those prone to jump at risk), and something investors could find nerve-wracking in another context. But for now, it seems to have paid off, with the surging crypto market seeming to reward big ballsy maneuvers like this right now (though time will tell if it pays off in the long run).
Bloomberg reported today that the agreement has “paid for itself” as Crypto.com Coin has surged so hard.

But is now a silly time to buy some Crypto.com Coin (CRO)? Are you better off waiting for a dip? Or is it going to go so wildly further up that it doesn’t even matter?
There are a variety of perspectives on this. Though we recommend you never invest more than you can afford to lose in any crypto, one of the things that gives bulls optimism for Crypto.com Coin is that there is more of a tangible use case to Coin.com Coin than there is for meme coins like Shiba Inu or Dogecoin, which function almost exclusively off hype (despite people like Mark Cuban and Elon Musk shooting the breeze about meme coins maybe becoming payment systems).
Crypto enthusiast Marvin Sandoval, who has a TikTok account with 7,517 followers, and who recently posted a video claiming he “doesn’t recommend meme coins” (and who claims not to own any CRO) recently posted a video in which he shared his thoughts about Crypto.com Coin.
Watch Marvin Sandoval share his thoughts on buying CRO now – and whether or not he thinks it’s too late
He says he uses Crypto.com to trade and claims it’s a user-friendly platform (and says they are working on a bunch of NFTs).
“I do think Crypto.com is going to do very well,” Marvin said. “Personally I don’t think I know enough to personally own Crypto.com [coin]. I do think it will continue to run. Maybe wait for a small pullback like it did the other day, but this one is on an absolute tear and if you’re in it congratulations.”
Other crucial info for CRO-curious investors about Coin.com and its coin (CRO) can be found on The Motley Fool. The Motley Fool reported on Monday: “Cryptocurrencies such as the CRO token remain highly speculative. The fact that this naming rights deal has boosted the value of CRO by more than 70% over the past week alone is incredible. Should Crypto.com have another week like this, it’s entirely possible this token could surpass Dogecoin and Shiba Inu in value by next week.”
“Investors in the crypto space appear to be valuing cryptocurrencies in accordance with the value their underlying networks can provide users. The hope is that this naming rights deal will result in a surge of activity on the Crypto.com platform. Time will ultimately tell how successful this deal is in creating value.”

The America’s Cup, the oldest competition in all international sport, will return for the 37th edition following the acceptance of a “friendly” challenge from the British Royal Yacht Squadron Racing Ltd by Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, the defending champion.
Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron won the 36th America’s Cup, after Team Emirates New Zealand successfully beat the challenger Luna Rossa in March 2021.
However, the process of organising the next edition of the historic sporting event isn’t progressing (and won’t progress) as normal. When a challenger formally submits a challenge to the defending team, the document should put forward proposed dates of the when the next match will take place, as well as giving information about the yachts to be used.
This time round, that hasn’t happened. The venue of the America’s Cup is usually the home country of the defending team, which would mean a return to New Zealand. However, it has been claimed that due to potentially high costs, Emirates Team New Zealand may waive this compulsory measure in favour of hosting the event somewhere else.
The New Zealand team has until the 31st of March 2022 to decide upon a location.
Other changes for the 37th America’s Cup include making it a far more inclusive proposition for other teams to compete, predominantly through the use of various cost-cutting measures. INEOS Britannia CEO and Team Principal Sir Ben Ainslie is quoted as saying, “As Challenger of Record, INEOS Britannia has sought with the Defender, Emirates Team New Zealand, to make the next America’s Cup less expensive and more inclusive.”
“The Protocol this time around will see reduced team operating costs without compromising any of the technical development which the Cup is so famous for. There is an opportunity for change, so for AC37 we will see the first Women’s America’s Cup Regatta and we also welcome back the Youth America’s Cup.”
Indeed, the very same AC75 yacht used for the first time at the 36th America’s Cup, will be used once again the next edition (it’s also been reported it will be used again for the 38th edition). By using the same boat design, it’s believed other teams wishing to enter whom would normally be turned away due to high costs, will be able to buy a used model and make it race-ready.
The AC75 boat introduced a new hydrofoil design that, while is incredibly futuristic, had some purists fuming. So much so, the New York Yacht Club said before the 36th edition of the race, that if they had won, they would ensure the design of the boats would change for future races.
Of course, they didn’t win, and Team Emirates New Zealand has elected to retain the AC75 design.
Yachting World adds, “In a nod to trying to get new teams signed up via this route – which would likely prove cheaper than starting from scratch – existing teams are not permitted to sail their AC75s’ before the 17th September 2022, however new Challengers entering AC37 that have purchased a second hand AC75 are permitted to sail their AC75 for 20 days from 17th June 2022.”
The number of sailors permitted onboard the yachts during races has been reduced from 11 to 8, and all 8 must now either be a passport holder of the country they compete for, or to have been present in the country for two of the previous three years prior to 18 March 2021.
Previously, only 20% of the race crew needed to be from the country they were competing for.
Essentially, this could mean we see a return of an Australian racing team. Australia was previously represented by the Hamilton Island Yacht Club, which was confirmed as the Challenger of Record for the 35th America’s Cup. However, eight months after submitting the challenge, the yacht club withdrew its Team Australia squadron, citing new protocols being too hard to prepare for when no dates or venue had been decided upon.
An Australian team was then notably absent from the 36th America’s Cup, with a lack of required funding to be truly competitive being the main culprit.
Australia hasn’t won an America’s Cup since 1983 when Australia II, skippered by John Bertrand, finally put an end to the New York Yacht Club’s 132-year hold over the trophy. Australia II was the representing yacht of the Royal Perth Yacht Club, but the original Challenger of Record for the 1983 year came from the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron. Their boat, Advance, lost the Louis Vuitton Challenger series of races (the first time Louis Vuitton sponsored the event), allowing the Royal Perth Yacht Club to storm to victory.
While there may not have been an Australian yacht featured in the vast majority of America’s Cup races, there is no shortage of Australian talent, and so the new rules regarding the nationality of sailors could help to see Australia return to the racing waters.
We’re still likely a good couple of years away from seeing the AC75 yachts take to the water – the 37th America’s Cup will likely take place in 2024 – but we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed an Australian contingent can pose a serious challenge.

Screw points hacking; travellers are flying business class on airlines like Emirates and Singapore Airlines by simply wandering on in. Of course: you might get caught and sent back to where you came from. But hey: nothing ventured, nothing gained.
That appears to be the attitude of some brazen economy passengers, anyway, who have tried – with varying levels of success – to sneak into the pointy end of the plane. From Live & Let’s Fly recently reporting on a woman getting busted sneaking into business class on a Singapore Airlines flight to this aggrieved passenger taking to Flyertalk in October 2020 to explain how police removed two women from an American Airlines flight after one of them tried to hide in the footwell of her friend’s business class seat, the stories just keep rolling in.
Most of the stories have a common theme: the passenger getting caught, and being sent back to economy with their tail between their legs (or worse). The reason for this is that airlines – particularly big, international, premium ones, like Singapore Airlines, are pretty switched onto this. Even if there are spare seats in business class, staff are pretty well aware of how many spare spaces are (and should be) available, and payed enough to care if passengers break protocol.
It’s also unlikely these days that there would be spare seats in the first place, with the huge industry there now is around upgrades.
In any case: if you ever spy a free business class seat, and think, “why not?” allow the following video to serve as potential inspiration. The video, currently kicking around on TikTok, appears to show you how to sneak into business class undetected.
The video looks to show you a man’s journey of successfully sneaking into business class from economy, having flight attendants walk past him, and getting away with an ill-gotten snooze in a lie-flat seat, before successfully exiting the flight undetected (or at least unbothered).
Watch how he does it in @imemezy’s video below.
In the video (which originally comes from a 2018 Youtube video by Simon Wilson), Simon says: “I’m going to go sneak into business class. Wish me luck.”
“So we’re mid flight and I’m just going to try and sneak into business class.”
Simon then appears to sneak in, and says to the camera: “Guess who has made it into business class.”
“It’s really dark in here,” he adds, perhaps alluding to the key moment where you might (emphasis on might) be able to sneak into business class undetected.
He then gets lucky on the next element of sneaking into business class that needs to go your way for you to pull it off – not being rumbled by staff: “The guy just walked past. So far so good.”
“God this feels so good. I need to travel like this all the time.”
The video ends with Simon appearing to wake up and walk off the plane in disbelief: “Oh, I’ve actually done it. Cheers, thank you very much. Bye.”
“We did it.”
The video highlights a few things you need to know about when sneaking into the pointy end of a plane. First of all: luck. This is probably the key factor. Second of all: timing. Go when it’s dark (and after dinner has already been served, during a time of flight crew is less inclined to disturb passengers who may be sleeping). Third of all: planning. Scout an empty seat in advance so you can walk with confidence.
Finally: in most business classes that are actually worth sneaking into, don’t expect it to work most of the time, because cabin staff will almost always eventually realise, and kick you out. So perhaps you’d be better off sticking to the more relaxed, tried and tested travel hacks many economy passengers consistently use with success, like using the business class bathroom…

One of the biggest and most-famous roles in Hollywood is still up for grabs, and given its notoriety, every man and his dog are going to have an opinion as to who they believe should fill it. We’re of course talking about the role of James Bond.
Ever since Daniel Craig announced No Time To Die would be his last outing as the sharp-dressed secret agent, the rumour mill has been going into overdrive, with bets being accepted for a number of high-profile stars, including Tom Hardy, Damien Lewis and Richard Madden, to name a few. Luther star Idris Elba was long-considered the obvious choice, but the man himself has since taken himself out of the running (for now).
RELATED: Who Will Be The Next James Bond Actor? The Field Just Narrowed Even Further
The latest name to be associated with the role is a little more unconventional, however. British actor Tom Holland, best known for his portrayal of web-slinging superhero Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has expressed his strong desire to take over the role of 007, James Bond, and said he doesn’t want to be stuck playing spider man forever.
His Spider-Man co-star, Jacob Batalon has also said, “He talks about being James Bond a lot. A lot a lot.”

While there’s no denying Holland certainly brings much charisma to the screen, the very fact he is just 25-years-old would make him an unlikely candidate for the role of James Bond. The vast majority of actors to have played the British secret agent have been in their late-30s when taking on the role, although one-time Bond, Australian actor George Lazenby, was the youngest Bond at just 30-years-old in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
The commonality between the previous line-up of James Bond actors is a masculine, charismatic charm. And, while we’re certainly not saying Tom Holland isn’t ‘manly’, there could be some argument that he wouldn’t (yet) have the same on-screen presence as his older peers.
Speaking of on-screen presence, muscle mountain and camera-frame filler Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has also indicated his desire to take on the role of Bond in a recent interview with Esquire. Of course, while The Rock has the fighting abilities and smouldering looks that are synonymous with 007, he’s American and is cast in a large number of Hollywood blockbusters.
The James Bond franchise has often done well with casting actors who are already known, but don’t necessarily have a huge backlog of titles under their belt. Casting someone such as The Rock could potentially be seen as a ploy to attract ticket sales, as opposed to finding the true best man for the job (it would be extremely unlikely though).
We’re likely still a fair way off from finding out who will eventually succeed Daniel Craig, as No Time To Die is still showing in cinemas around the world. While the 25th Bond movie did confirm “James Bond Will Return” during the credits, no script has been written for the next outing and producer Barbara Broccoli has been quoted as saying the search for the next actor “won’t begin in earnest until 2022.”

To say that Dan Bilzerian – professional poker player, man mountain, entrepreneur and now author – has a taste for the finer things in life would be an understatement. You only have to look at this most recent watch shopping adventure to get a taste for his, well, taste.
The 40-year-old miscreant, best known for showing off on social media with legions of bikini-clad models hanging off his arm, took to Instagram yesterday to show off another form of wrist candy: a trio of very expensive Audemars Piguet luxury watches.
Presumably out for a cheeky shopping session at Audemars Piguet’s luxe Las Vegas boutique, Bilzerian was characteristically nonchalant about the high-end timepieces. We’re used to seeing Bilzerian rock expensive watches, but these treasures are easily some of the most outrageous we’ve seen yet.
Watch Dan Bilzerian show off over US$500,000 worth of Audemars Piguet watches below.
First up, Bilzerian shows off an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Chronograph (ref. 26622TI.GG.D002CA.01) – bloody hell, try saying that three times fast. This limited-edition version of AP’s chunky dive watch features a sandblasted titanium case, rubber strap and, as the name implies, both a flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock as well as a chronograph complication. Priced at around US$259,510, it’s the most expensive watch Bilzerian showed off during his shopping spree – but bizarrely, not the most conspicuous.
That would be the next watch he gave us a sneak peek at, the Royal Oak Frosted Gold Double Balance Wheel Openworked (ref. 15468BC.YG.1259BC.01). If its 18ct hammered frosted white gold case and bracelet or its skeletonised movement weren’t eye-catching enough, its bezel is also set with 32 baguette-cut rainbow-coloured sapphires. This watch just screams excess. Naturally, it features a hefty price tag – US$235,000.
Bilzerian only shared a brief glimpse of the last watch, but we reckon it’s a ref. 15451OR.ZZ.1256OR.03 Royal Oak. Compared to the other two watches, it’s a rather small and subtle piece – but by any mere mortal’s standards, it’s a highly luxurious timepiece. Pink gold with a matching pink gold dial and a bezel set with 40 brilliant-cut diamonds, this US$57,884 watch is nothing to sniff at.
RELATED: Jay-Z Hires Jeff Bezos’ ‘Mega Yacht’, Buys $600,000 Audemars Piguet Watch To Celebrate
It’s not clear whether he ended up buying any of these three APs, but we wouldn’t be surprised if he did – he’s a regular customer. He already owns a bunch of Royal Oak Offshores, as well as watches from other expensive brands such as Hublot and Richard Mille.
Indeed, the only thing more ‘extra’ than his watch collection is probably his car collection…
