This feature was produced in partnership with Kennedy Watches & Jewellery.

When it comes to luxury goods, brands toe a fine line between heritage and innovation, and this is perhaps most true when it comes to high-end timepieces. Haute horlogerie must balance between remaining relevant to new audiences whilst maintaining that aesthetic je ne sais quoi that’s made their watches successful in the first place.

Kennedy, Australia’s leading luxury watch retailer, understands that better than anyone. That’s why in 2020 they decided to launch a sophisticated new website in order to combine their famously excellent service and extensive range of the world’s best watches with the freedom and convenience of online shopping.

Modelled on the best luxury brand online offerings, Kennedy caters for the full e-commerce customer experience – from exploring a timepiece through to receiving the timepiece at their front door.

Cleaning and boxing up a Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendez-Vous Night & Day (ref. Q3448480) before sending it off to a lucky customer.

The Kennedy website is simply a joy to behold. It’s never been easier to peruse brands like IWC Schaffhausen, Panerai, Piaget or Jaeger-LeCoultre. From everyday essentials to celebration timepieces and on-wrist office statements par excellence, Kennedy has you covered.

Buying a fine watch is a special experience; one that Kennedy has gone to great lengths to ensure remains special even when shopping with them online. Their highly-trained boutique staff treat your watch with the respect it deserves, making sure it’s spotless and beautifully packaged before it’s sent on its way. Personal secured delivery is just part of the service. Kennedy offers complimentary shipping and returns on all orders, but you can also choose to pick up your new watch in store – whatever works for you.

While shopping online will never totally replace the experience you receive at a boutique, Kennedy’s new online shop and impeccable service is as close as you could hope to get. Online shopping shouldn’t be devoid of quality or excitement, which is why Kennedy’s new offering is so exciting.

The ‘Ugly’ Airport That Stole The World’s Heart
The ‘Ugly’ Airport That Stole The World’s Heart

There lies a special place in the hearts of many for iconic buildings, planes and moments in aviation history. The retirement of Concorde, for example, will be an event remembered not just by frequent flyers, but those who recognised the technological achievements the supersonic passenger jet accomplished.

But while Concorde could easily be considered a technological marvel and even good-looking, the same can’t quite be said of Germany’s latest airport closure, yet that doesn’t mean it’s an event that should go unnoticed.

As CNN Travel reports, Berlin Tegel Airport (TXL) has officially closed its terminals and ceased flights from its runways. The last plane to depart the diminutive air travel hub took place on Saturday 7th November, seeing an Air France jet heading to Paris (the very first plane to depart from Tegel when it opened in 1948 was chartered by the same airline and flew the same route).

A fitting tribute to an airport that has copped its fair share of criticism over the years (more so in recent years as air travel numbers have increased). But, problems aside, it’s also an airport that will be missed, due to its historical significance and unique quirks that made it unlike any other airport in the world.

Following its closure, the German capital is now be served by a single airport: the Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt, which officially opened at the end of October, a mere nine years after it was originally slated for opening (which likely played a part in keeping Tegel open for so long). Berlin’s new air travel gateway has been subject to countless delays relating to miscalculated costs and a small dose of corruption (according to Bild Magazine)… and of course, the COVID-19 pandemic played a role too.

So, why is the closure of Tegel such a tear-inducing event? For starters, it was an airport with charm.

Its clever hexagonal main terminal (opened in 1974) meant some passengers only needed to walk a few metres from entering into the airport, checking in and making their way onto the plane and vice versa.

CNN Travel cites Drahomira Bukowiecki, a woman who fled communist Czechoslovakia in 1968 via Tegel, as saying “To me and many other West Berliners, Tegel really was a place apart,”

“It symbolized the glamorous world of air travel with its shops that sold wonderful things and the whole process of taking a flight which was very different in the 1970s.”

“And even after reunification, with air travel becoming available widely, that view did not change. Schönefeld really is so far away from the city centre. So for me and my generation, Tegel is the true Berlin airport, a part of us and the one place that enabled us to fly to freedom!”

Compare this to the labyrinths we face today and it soon becomes clear why Tegel was favoured and loved by frequent flyers passing through Europe or heading into Berlin (Tegel is also just 8km from Berlin city centre, so getting yourself from the terminal and into one of the city’s famed nightclubs took only a matter of minutes.)

Speaking to CNN Travel, Tilman Hierath, managing director of the Circus Hotel nearby said, “In Tegel that does not mean to an entrance two counties away. Instead, we were able to drop our guests off directly at their gate. It is the only major airport I know where you can see the check-in counter from the curb and the airplane from the check-in counter.”

Of course, to some, it was only good to fly into.

However, the airport was only designed to cater to around 2.5 million passengers each year when it first opened its doors in 1948, yet in 2019 some 24 million pairs of feet scurried through the hallways and onto planes (making it the fourth busiest airport in the whole of Germany). Suffice to say, Tegel was ageing fast and was unable to meet the ever-growing demand for international air travel.

But it’s the historical impact the small airbase had that makes it an upsetting time for aviation. Tegel played a significant role during the Cold War (1947 – 1991) as it became a means for Western Allies to fly in essential goods, since the Soviet Union blocked incoming access via railway, road and canals. In response, the French military occupying Tegel commissioned a 2,428m runway to be built and just 50 days later, a US Air Force plane landed.

Following the Cold War, Tegel took up the role of being a commercial airport, helped partly by its long runway, and the first commercial plane – Air France to Paris – commenced on 2nd January 1960.

Since that time, major airlines including British Airways and Pan Am have used Tegel as their main Berlin hub.

Only time will tell if Berlin’s new international airport proves to be a success. But what can safely assume, is that it won’t have the same captivating appeal as Tegel.

‘Naked’ Qantas 787 Delivery Keeps Aviation World Guessing
‘Naked’ Qantas 787 Delivery Keeps Aviation World Guessing

You wouldn't catch Qantas CEO Alan Joyce in a pair of gaudy high tops.

Qantas, however, has taken delivery of its latest 'naked' 787 Dreamliner in true 'sneakerhead' style – by putting it straight into storage.

Qantas received the spanking new Boeing 787-9 in Victorville, California, on November the 13th, the delivery bringing its Dreamliner fleet up to 12.

Aviation photographer Jennifer Schuld snagged a photo of this, posting the 787-9 VH-ZNN's arrival on Twitter.

However, instead of trumpeting the naked jet's arrival, or putting it straight into service, Qantas is putting the 787 straight on ice.

As reported by Simple Flying, "Qantas has quietly ferried the new plane to Victorville, where it will join the majority of the Qantas Dreamliner fleet in hibernation."

The jet had come from Seattle's KPAE airport, where it had undergone testing the day prior, according to Schuld.

A post shared by @jenschuld

The images sparked questions over Qantas' plan for the jet, with one Twitter user pointing out the following.

"No livery except for the tail. No Qantas wording and the body kept clean... for resale?"

Schulz told DMARGE, "They are almost always fully painted when they are delivered. This one was ferried to Victorville for storage, and there is a paint hangar there, so I’m assuming it will be painted in Victorville before Qantas takes it home, whenever that may be."

Rico Merkert, USYD Professor of Transport and Supply Chain Management told DMARGE, "It is not normal to put white label planes straight into storage but what is Qantas supposed to do? Alan Joyce announced yesterday that Qantas is not planning to fly to Europe or the US before the end of next year. So what should they do with those long-haul aircraft until then other than putting them into storage or sell (perhaps, as part of a sale and leaseback deal)?"

"Out of their Dreamliner fleet, they are currently operating only three with the rest being in hibernation. Some of their B787s have been sold and leased back earlier this year which has provided Qantas with a boost to its liquidity."

Though Merkert told us Qantas "may try to sell this one too," the airline has not made any indication this is the case.

As a Qantas pilot told DMARGE earlier this year, even if airlines look to offload jets, it's not the easiest time to sell them.

"I'm not sure there's actually a market for used airlines at present given the financial stress most airlines are under."

Reporting by Business Recorder also suggests this 'sale theory' is not necessarily on the money, and that the California delivery is simply part of Qantas' publically stated pandemic plan.

"As the carrier predicts a significant decrease in travel demand for an extended period of time, it announced that it will be moving several of its Boeing 787s from Australia to service in the United States," Business Recorder reports.

"From September onwards, most of Qantas' 787 fleet will be flown to Victorville, California, where they will join Qantas Airbus A380s and other aircraft carriers to wait for the end of the COVID-19 pandemic."

A Qantas spokesperson has also explained, according to Business Recorder, that "the humidity in California is much lower than in Australia, so it’s much better for long-term storage of aircraft – the same reason why we’ve moved our A380s there."

Qantas was 'economising' its fleet well before the pandemic. Though it retired its 'Queen of the Skies' 747 fleet earlier than planned thanks to The Bat Kiss, the decision to end the era this year had already been made.

RELATED: Secret Message Behind Qantas' Last 747 Flight Most Australians Missed

Now though, thanks to the dearth of demand, this 'economisation' has increased significantly.

Now even new 787s are being safely stored away, awaiting brighter days.

According to Simple Flying, "Of the 14 Dreamliners Qantas had ordered, just three are retained in active service in Australia."

RELATED: Industry Experts Reveal WTF Is Going On With Qantas’ Grounded Fleet

Experts have predicted the aviation industry will not return to pre-pandemic levels until 2024.

One look at the Alice Springs plane boneyard and you see the impact this is having on the industry.

Qantas' 'sneakerhead' attitude to this new 787 delivery also comes amid something of a renaissance in smaller aircraft, with Air Transat recently setting the record for the world’s longest flight in a single-aisle aircraft.

It also comes after Singapore Airlines recently deemed seven of its once mighty A380s "surplus to requirements."

The turbulent year continues.

Legalising Marijuana Could Take Australian Fashion To New Heights
Legalising Marijuana Could Take Australian Fashion To New Heights

Marijuana has never been more acceptable in modern society than it is today. Countries including Canada, Uruguay, South Africa have wholly decriminalised weed, and many more countries have legalised medicinal cannabis. Yet there remains a potent stigma against the stuff, even in countries where it is decriminalised or legal. But what’s more pertinent to the fashion industry is how this stigma has also affected the cultivation of hemp.

There’s a lot of misinformation around the difference between hemp and marijuana, but at its core, they’re simply two different products that come from the same plant: Cannabis sativa. Hemp describes varieties of Cannabis that contain 0.3% or less THC content by dry weight, whereas marijuana describes products with more than 0.3% – that is, the stuff that’ll get you high.

Hemp is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world, and has a wide variety of uses, from food to fuel and even as a bioplastic: for example, in the automotive industry (a new Mercedes-Benz C-Class contains up to 20kg of hemp, as an example).

RELATED: The ‘Pandemic Proof’ European Second Hand Cars Australians Can’t Get Enough Of

But one of the best uses for hemp is as a textile. Hardy, breathable, crease-resistant and versatile with a texture similar to linen, hemp makes great clothes. However, hemp clothes have often been associated with hippies – another side effect of the marijuana connection. That association has also seen widespread cultivation of the plant stigmatised or restricted too.

Since the 1990s Australian states and territories have slowly been permitting the cultivation of hemp – under strict licenses. Australia has the perfect climate to cultivate the plant, but it remains a niche and tightly controlled industry. However, things are changing – and with it could come an opportunity for the Australian fashion industry.

The Australian Capital Territory passed a bill which came into effect this year that allows for the possession and growth of small amounts of cannabis for personal use, evidence that Australians are becoming more and more tolerant of the plant. How is this relevant to fashion? Tolerance for weed also paves the way for the broader cultivation of hemp, which could be a huge boon for the fashion industry.

If hemp became a more common, competitive crop here in Australia, it could stimulate local innovation and expertise in using hemp in fashion. Indeed, local brands such as Afends and Good Studios are ahead of the curve, already offering hemp-based clothing items.

Not only does Australia have the perfect climate to grow hemp, but because hemp fabric is so light and breathable, it also suits the Australian climate perfectly. It’s like a match made in heaven… All we need is for the production of hemp to open up, which will come when weed becomes more normal. The fates of hemp and marijuana are entwined and as the medical, nutritional and cultural benefits of cannabis become more and more widespread, the Australian fashion industry could benefit enormously – among myriad other industries.

Until then, we’ll be booking flights to Amsterdam Fashion Week. Whenever international travel opens back up, that is.

Celebrity Stylist Brad Goreski Just Blew The Doors Off Red Carpet Attire

Normally, the People’s Choice Awards are overshadowed by more prestigious awards ceremonies in the US: the Oscars, the Grammys, the VMAs, the presidential election…The 46-year-old awards show has always been a shameless celebration of celebrity culture, but ever since American basic cable channel E! took over the show in 2017, that’s been turned up to eleven. It’s not normally the sort of thing we’d be interested in here at DMARGE, but one man has singlehandedly changed our opinion.Enter celebrity fashion stylist and television personality Brad Goreski, who wowed crowds with his impeccable sartorial flair. The Canadian style wizard looked like a million bucks, rocking the red carpet in an eye-catching blue velvet Gucci suit, Christian Louboutin loafers and bedazzled with jewels from Cartier.

The all-white trousers and shirt plus the relaxed Southern-style bow tie immediately bring to mind the signature outfit of Colonel Harland Sanders, the founder of fast-food chain KFC – and indeed, Goreski looks crisper than a deep-fried chicken tender. The aviator-style glasses and extra-wide lapels also add to the old-school Americana aesthetic, one that Gucci has channelled heavily recently with the launch of their new suiting line, starring Iggy Pop, A$AP Rocky and Tyler, the Creator.Currently the in-house stylist for American luxury fashion house Kate Spade, the 43-year-old Goreski has styled celebrities like Jessica Alba, Demi Moore and Rashida Jones among others. He’s also done voice work for Family Guy, been a judge for Miss Universe and interned at Vogue. The 46th People’s Choice Awards was a predictably star-studded affair, highlights of which included a performance from Justin Bieber and Australia’s very own Chris Hemsworth win ‘The Action Movie Star of 2020’ for his performance in Netflix’s Extraction.

Australians ‘Indignant’ At Controversial Bali Law Proposal
Australians ‘Indignant’ At Controversial Bali Law Proposal

It takes a lot to upset an Australian. That’s the cliché, anyway. But a booze ban currently being considered in Indonesia has many antipodes indignant.“The prohibition push has been revived by two Islamist political parties – the United Development Party and the Prosperous Justice Party – and nationalist party Gerindra via a bill that has lain dormant since 2016,” Traveller reports.According to Traveller, the three parties pushing the law control just 147 of 575 seats in the parliament, “but their political influence is greater than the number of seats they hold.”If the law were to be passed it would “ban alcoholic beverages ranging in strength from 1 per cent to 55 per cent” and make it “an offence to produce, store, sell or consume alcoholic drinks,” (Traveller).

“Draconian penalties ranging from two to 10 years’ jail and fines of up to $100,000 could apply for the production, storing, importation and sale of alcohol, while anyone consuming alcohol could be jailed up to two years or fined up to $5000.”

Ouch. While exceptions are being considered alongside the proposal (think: religious ceremonies, pharmaceutical uses, and tourists), exactly how they would work is undecided.

Australians and New Zealanders have expressed their displeasure at the proposal on Twitter.

“Potentially takes the gloss off a Bali trip for many” one Melbourne man wrote.“First it was sex now drinking alcohol lol if there trying to destroy there tourism there doing a great job,” tweeted a Brisbane resident.“Would it be Bali without Bintang?” a Melbourne travel writer said.In the Facebook comments section of 9 News, remarks were more heated.

“Goodbye Bali, not that I’ve been there, and never will. Obviously they don’t appreciate the Tourist dollar being spent there, oh well plenty more places to visit.”“They will never see me again if they ban it, bring on Thailand.”“Maybe they should just ban the selling of methanol for human consumption….”

Some, on the other hand, embraced the proposal, arguing it’s, “the best thing that could happen to Bali.”

Many have pointed out Bali is predominately Hindu, arguing such a ban is extremely unlikely to ever be put in place.AA Ngurah Adi Ardhana, chairman of Bali’s regional Legislative Council, came out strongly against the Bill, news.com.au reports.“It is too superficial; Bali will definitely reject it,” he said.

“We are a unitary state built on diversity, and the potential economic impact involved is unacceptable.”

Indonesian MP Illiza Sa’aduddin Djamal said further discussion of the details of the proposed law were needed and that “it is currently just a proposal, there will be harmonisation, discussions, [to talk about] what can be agreed upon,” Traveller reports.

“[The] proposed law is not blindly banning alcohol. We are aware Indonesia is not an Islamic country [in which the religion] governs everything.”

Traveller points out “in 2019, Indonesia considered new laws banning sex outside marriage but the plan was dropped because of the damage to Bali tourism, which as a tourism drawcard makes a significant contribution to the Indonesian economy.”Bintang loving tourists can only hope the same fate befalls the proposed booze ban.

David Beckham Spotted Wearing A ‘Refreshing’ Take On The People’s Rolex
David Beckham Spotted Wearing A ‘Refreshing’ Take On The People’s Rolex

David Beckham is not only one of the greatest footballers of all time, but is also one of the best-dressed men on the planet. From cutting-edge casual cool to Peaky Blinders-esque old-school goodness, the 45-year-old English gent scrubs up well.Something he’s particularly fond of is accessorising. From cufflinks to chokers and everything in between, the man’s got flair. This year he even launched his own eyewear brand, recruiting his eldest son Brooklyn to help him sell the stylish Italian spectacles. But any man knows that the one accessory you simply can’t do without is a nice watch. Luckily for Beckham, he’s an ambassador for Tudor, so he’s never without a fine timepiece. While he’s a fan of the Royal and Pelagos (even owning a one-of-a-kind Inter Miami FC version of the latter), he’s most commonly seen wearing a Black Bay of some description: arguably Tudor’s most well-known watch and a true design classic. His most recent piece of wrist candy? The Black Bay GMT ‘Pepsi’, which he showed off on his Instagram Story yesterday.

For those of you not in the know, Tudor is the sister company of Rolex, the world’s most famous luxury watchmaker. One of Rolex’s most iconic watches is the GMT-Master, which first debuted in 1954 with a blue and red bezel. The popular tool watch has since been produced in a wide variety of colours but the original blue and red – which has been dubbed the ‘Pepsi’, after the cola brand – is easily the most famous.RELATED: ‘Counterintuitive’ Rolex Aftermarket Trend Renews Age-Old American RivalryMany Tudor models pay homage to their more expensive Rolex siblings, so it’s no surprise that when offering the handsome Black Bay with a GMT complication that Tudor also decided to reference the colour scheme of the GMT-Master ‘Pepsi’ – hence the moniker. But the Black Bay GMT ‘Pepsi’ has a character all of its own. Its bezel is matte and aluminium as opposed to the Rolex GMT-Master’s smooth, ceramic bezel, with a darker shade of blue compared to the Rolex. The Tudor’s bezel is more tactile and its number indices are smaller and more retro than the Rolex’s. The Tudor is slightly bigger, and has no crown guard or cyclops lens for its date window. That’s to say nothing of Tudor’s signature ‘snowflake’ hands, or how it’s twice as water-resistant as the Rolex…Beckham’s not the only celebrity to take a liking to the refreshingly minimalistic ‘Tudor Pepsi’. Singer/songwriter John Mayer has also been spotted wearing one, as some eagle-eyed commenters on the /r/Tudor subreddit pointed out last year.

Dan Bilzerian Reveals How Many Different Women He Has Slept With In One Day

Modern age Great Gatsby? Rich douchebag? Masculine icon? Grown up enfant terrible? Whether you see him as the epitome of everything wrong with Western culture, or the epitome of everything right with Western culture, you can’t dispute Dan Bilzerian knows how to attract an audience.

The man has 32.6 million Instagram followers, money, yachts, a gun collection that could fund a rogue state and a mansion.

Though people love to stir rumours about how he affords it all, the poker player and son of a Wall Street ‘corporate raider‘ simply does not give a f*ck.

To give his followers a peek into his life, two hours ago, Bilzerian invited his Instagram followers to text him “whatever questions you guys want.”

Image via Instagram (accessed by ‘swiping up’ on Bilzerian’s post).

The only stipulation? He needs to be able to answer “without going into paragraphs.”

The first question Bilzerian answered was “how many different women have you slept with in one day?”

His response? Eight.

He was also asked when his book would be coming out, to which he replied, “March.”

‘Coogification Of Australia’: Nation’s Biggest Bridesmaid Suburbs Revealed

Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. It’s a popular cliché, but when it comes to Australia’s hotspot adjacent suburbs, it may be wrong. As Bondi, Toorak, East Perth and Bryon Bay explode in popularity (and price), their better value neighbours are seeing more and more action too.The upshot? Many ‘bridesmaid’ suburbs are not so cheap and cheerful anymore (now they’re just cheerful). Besides creating an exponential chain of secondary, tertiary and quaternary bridesmaid suburbs, this trend is leading to what we’re dubbing the ‘Coogification’ of Australia. What does this involve? Glamorisation, young professionals and steadily increasing rental prices.
