Wow. Just, wow. This little 1962 Porsche 356B Notchback is simply stunning, and it’s currently for sale in Australia.
You may be scratching your head a little with this one. If you think it looks a bit different from your average 356, you’d be right. That’s because this is a 356B Notchback, the often forgotten (and criticised) body style produced between 1961 and 1962. The Notchbacks were originally a result of Porsche having too many Cabriolet bodies. The decision was made to create the notchback body style by simply welding the cabriolet’s optional steel top on the body of unsuspecting cab’s. For 1962, Porsche committed to notch, and the body became a production model. Whilst the Notchbacks don’t have that iconic Porsche silhouette, this example proves they are still as effortlessly cool as their prettier stablemate.
I first came across this particular Notchback after following the Real Steel Coach Builders. I was honestly surprised that this car existed in Australia, and its the type of build I would love to see more of. Refreshingly different, whilst not being heavily modified. It treads the line between resto and outlaw (engine is still just stock, but still).
As an Industrial Designer, I truly appreciate the level of detail Real Steel has put into the build of this car. From the neat exhaust outlet to the drilled door handles- no stone has been left unturned. The finished product is a completely unique Porsche build that continues to draw you in as you notice more and more subtle modifications.
If you have deep, deep pockets, and want to rock up to the next German Auto Show in something a bit different, then this is the car for you. Find it on Carsales here for $319,000.

Dating is tough but not dating can be even tougher. And – thanks to a new ‘Humans of NY’ photo – The Instagram World has received a timely reminder of that tequila-inspiring fact.Fortunately, the online community is now more supportive (generally speaking) of mental health issues, unlike the trolling you might have expected five years ago. Opening up on ~the web~ now prompts communities to come together around the issues we all face.Enter: one of ‘Humans of NY’s’ most popular posts of late, which comes from a young German woman who now lives in The Big Apple, whose story can teach us all an important lesson about dating (and being sexily vulnerable).

“Two weeks after the divorce I met another guy on Instagram. We talked for hours on our first date. And it felt so good after this long, unhappy relationship. I finally had that feeling again. I hadn’t felt it in years.”The story begins well.“And it was so beautiful. He wrote so much to me. Oh my goodness – so many words. He was saying I was great. And I was the perfect woman. And he was so thankful he found me. And he wanted me to meet his family.”Suspiciously well, in fact.“It was his idea to get tattoos together. It was his idea to move in together. But as soon as we did, he changed. He became less affectionate.” Ouch.
“So I suggested we slow down a little. I suggested we live apart. And that’s when he cut off all contact. So in the past month, I’ve lost two houses and two men. I’m so mad at myself.”
“I feel so stupid,” our anonymous author continues. “I couldn’t even be alone for two weeks. I’ve never been alone. I had my first boyfriend when I was thirteen. I dated so many guys in school. I got married when I was 21.”
“For my entire life, there’s always been someone there. I don’t even know what life looks like when you’re alone. It’s my biggest fear. I’m not sure I can handle it.”
Fortunately, Instagram responded in style, revealing that these feelings resonate with a whole lot of people, with hundreds of supportive comments rolling in. From, “This hurts but it will show you how strong you are,” to, “I feel personally attacked,” the empathy was real.
“This is the time for some major growth. It’s going to be hard but there is nothing more satisfying than being okay with being alone.”
“You need to know who you are alone before you can be the best version of yourself with someone else,” another added. “Take the time to know who you are and what you want. It will be life-changing. You can do this.”
“Narcissists love to show up when you’re down, then drag you down even further.”
What appears to be a digital mental health support page Think Hole even chimed in, commenting, “Hit the call button in our bio and leave an anonymous message about anything. Literally anything. Go on a rant for all we care. Just call in and tell us what’s on your mind.”In a world of flashy filters and over the top claims, we’d just like to commend ‘Humans of NY’ for staying classy: real will always resonate.

He may look good in Dothraki garb but he looks even better in a salmon suit. Yes, ladies and gents, we’re talking about the most lusted-after man of 2011 (the year season one of HBO’s Game of Thrones premiered): Jason Momoa. The 40-year-old American actor, who has also played Aquaman and a lifeguard on Baywatch, appeared at the world premiere of Apple TV+’s new show, See, on Monday in Los Angeles, California. See is a post-apocalyptic series set to start streaming on the 1st of November, which Momoa stars in.But we aren’t here to discuss that – we’re here to talk about Jason Momoa ensuring his relevance well into 2019 (and perhaps even leaving his mark on 2020) with an outfit that was as bold as it was tasteful, stepping out in a shiny Tom Ford blazer and trousers, an untucked tee, suede Louboutins and a High Priestess necklace.
“Nice to see the big man in a suit. I like the colour, I think it suits him. The sheen is very mid 80s, becoming popular again. The muted shirt combo is cool too. [As for] the matching boots, however, my preference would be sandals or loafers. 7/10.”
Of course, Jeff is also one to admire a gent’s subtle flouting of the status quo, as long as he knows the rules he is breaking (and does so with taste and style). On this front, Jason gets top marks. It’s also worth mentioning that while this may not be a well-known (or not as much as it should be) rule, especially in Australia (see: The Spring Races), a quick look around the streets of Paris or Milan, and you soon see it really is a ~thing~ not to indulge in too much sheen. That’s not to say you should never wear anything shiny (unless you’re a graphic designer), but nor should you fear for your life if someone ‘not in the know’ gives your glossy smart casual blazer a second look.As for the hero piece, Jason’s necklace is a subtle eye-catcher, which is in keeping with the colour scheme of the rest of his outfit, rather than ‘popping’ above it. Does he pull it off? We would say yes but Nesta Cooper and Hera Hilmar already have…It would appear Jason’s partner Lisa Bonet had better start smuggling uglier garments into Jason’s wardrobe.
Anyhow, on this topic of change, Jason’s rule-bending outfit forms part of a broader trend of stylish men making the much-confused smart-casual (and cocktail attire) dress codes more their own, something we are sure to see an increase in as more hombres get fashion savvy.

From Lebron James’ glistening abs to Kim Kardashian’s resplendent glutes the Keto Diet has taken to the 21st century like a grill to toast: doctor’s sneered and fitness gurus dabbled in the early noughties, nothing much happened for about ten years; then the regime suddenly caught fire in 2017.Now it’s not just athletes (in fact, many who exercise for a living find they need the carbs) but everyone else who is jumping on the Keto Bandwagon, with graphic designer, yoga teacher and tradie Keto Warriors all putting their co-workers to shame with the largest Tupperware imaginable.Forget vegans, these are the new zealots. While going Keto comes with a host of potential benefits (and risks) to your overall health (which we investigate in detail here), today we are here to discuss the specific implications of relying on The Keto Diet to lose weight (read: shredding). And we have at our disposal a post by fitness coach (and PhD holder) Brad Schoenfeld to help.
View this post on Instagram
“Proponents of [The] Keto Diet[s] often claim that cutting out carbs increases resting energy expenditure, thereby enhancing weight loss,” Schoenfeld begins. “As shown in this recent study from Kevin Hall’s lab, an increase in REE in fact does occur.”So far so promising. But, according to Schoenfeld, “The increased thermogenic effect is very short lived, lasting just a little over a week before returning to baseline.” Which basically means: a reset, with Schoenfeld adding, “It’s not entirely clear why there is a short term spike in metabolism, but it may be due to the increased gluconeogenesis during the period where the body shifts from using glucose to ketones for fuel.”
“Regardless, the net increase in energy expenditure amounted to ~1000 total calories. This would have no meaningful implications on weight loss. For all practical purposes, it’s irrelevant.”
Bottom line? If a keto diet fits your lifestyle and goals, it’s a decent option. But from a shredding (i.e. fat loss) standpoint, according to Schoenfeld, “Many other options are equally as effective,” with your long term adherence ultimately being the deciding factor (so choose a plan that you can stick with over the long-term).RELATED: The Ketogenic Diet – The Truth About How It Will Impact Your Health So what’s the danger in relying on The Keto Diet to get shredded? Essentially, it might help for a week or two (and give you a false sense of progress), but it is not a silver bullet in the long term – and if you try and turn it into one you might give yourself quite a scare (just ask this Australian personal trainer, who did exactly that).

James Bond needs no introduction: for over 50 years, the famous MI6 agent has appeared in 25 films portrayed by seven different actors. Each of which has taken Bond around the world with a core group of recurring characters. Now it seems one of those characters may be getting a spin-off of their own.
At least, that’s the hope of actress Naomie Harris, who portrays Moneypenny in the Daniel Craig led 007 films. Naomie has portrayed Moneypenny as a spy in Skyfall before reverting to the role typically associated with Moneypenny in Spectre. But you already knew that.
More interestingly, according to comingsoon.net, Naomie has been approached by Moonlight director Barry Jenkins to star in her own film. Naomie even set Barry up with Bond producer Barbara Broccoli to discuss the possibility.
“I got him together with Barbara, and they had a little discussion, but nothing’s happened so far, but you never know.”
If the films tackled Ms Moneypenny in a spin-off it would be great to see her as a 00 agent, rather than a secretary. We’d much prefer to see her travel the world and shooting at the bad guys. Hopefully, her aim has gotten better since Skyfall.
View this post on Instagram
Bond fans are notoriously against the character becoming a female, so maybe a Moneypenny spin-off is the best way to introduce a female spy without changing the core character (even though it would undoubtedly be controversial). But is she the best spinoff direction for 007? There are many other characters from Bond’s past also worthy of a stand-alone franchise.
M
M has been beside 007 since the beginning, yet it was only with Dame Judi Dench in Skyfall that we really got to learn more about her. Dame Judi was the first M to survive a bond recasting, but her story has been completed. If a spin-off takes off it should focus on the new M as played by Ralph Fiennes. The Shakespearean actor has only appeared in two Bond films (with his third in the yet-to-be-released No Time To Die). But how did his character get to be M? Surely he was a spy beforehand and a spin-off could act as prequel for the character. Hollywood has the technology to de-age the fifty-seven-year-old actor and he’s no stranger to prequels with a starring role in the Kingsman prequel, The King’s Man.
Q
Despite disappearing from the more recent films, Q has appeared in 21 (soon to be 22) of the Bond films. The Quartermaster was played by Desmond Llewelyn until the actor’s death in 1999. Since then he has been played by John Cleese and more recently Ben Winshaw. Given how young the current actor Ben is, a spin-off could focus on Q creating an AI that turns on MI6 and only he can stop it. Or do the typical “analysts becomes a spy even though they never signed up for it” type gig. It could be a refreshing take on the genre and given how dark and moody Daniel Craig’s Bond is it could be nice to have a more light-heartened spinoff.
Felix Leiter
Slightly more obscure is Felix Leiter, James Bond’s CIA counterpart. Most recently played by American actor Jeffrey Wright, Felix has often played more of a back-up role to Bond. He frequently provides the British spy with expertise, equipment and in the case of Casino Royale, money. It has been noted by Bond scholars – yes that’s a real thing – that Leiter was written as a “nonentity as a piece of characterization … he, the American, takes orders from Bond, the Britisher, and that Bond is constantly doing better than he.” Still, if given his own movie, it could be a chance to create a more comedic (American) take on James Bond. Leiter is set to appear in No Time To Die so it may be the right time to give him a spin-off.
Ernst Stavro Blofeld
Villian movies are all the rage (just look at The Joker). Blofeld is the head of the criminal organisation SPECTRE and is considered to be Bond’s archnemesis. The last film, Spectre, revealed him to be *spoiler alert* the man behind every villain that Craig’s Bond had faced. He is in prison by the end of the film but a spin-off could easily see him break out or even do a prequel of his rise to be number one of a worldwide criminal organisation. Christoph Waltz is a terrific villain as he has proved time and time again. No doubt he alone would make watching this spin-off worth it.
With Daniel Craig’s tenure set to end next year with the release of No Time To Die maybe now is the perfect time to look into the back catalogue and find a spin-off opportunity.

Reading the first reviews of Qantas’ marathon new flight from New York to Sydney, one might think it was one of the most intimidating challenges of the 21st century.
In a sense it was: long haul travel is the world’s largest endurance sport, and precious few events have been broadcast so widely. But when you take a closer look at this 20-hour ‘epic’ (which the aforementioned journalists all experienced from business-class), compared to many existing red-eye journeys, it was a walk in the park.
Not convinced? Put it this way: would you rather fly Sydney to London, economy, which takes roughly 26 hours with a four hour layover in Dubai (or 39 hours, if you are as smart as this author, who once booked an 18 hour layover in Bangkok), or New York to Sydney as part of a 19 hour and 16 minute lie-flat snooze, food and yoga fest?
If you are detecting a subtle undertone of jealousy you are absolutely right. But the point remains: why is everyone so worried about this potential new route’s jetlag, when people have been making tougher trans-hemispheric crossings for decades?
The point of Project Sunrise is to make people’s lives easier. And jetlag comes more from moving to a new time zone – something this new route is not going to change (for better or worse).
To be fair, one Bloomberg journalist did put his experience in context, invoking the 40 hour reconnaissance missions pilots made during the Korean War. And – to the Wellbeing Brigade’s point – we appreciate the media interest in the impact being in a pressurised cabin for an unprecedented length of time will have on the general public.
This is a fair concern which Qantas has dealt with admirably (if thoroughly), bringing in professors from the University of Sydney to monitor and advise passengers on how best to stay healthy in the air, a process which started weeks before the journey itself.
Journalist observations of the hardship of the journey, however, in the eyes of this author, don’t make sense. That’s not to say I don’t think they are being honest: just that I don’t entirely understand their approach to the trip.
Angus Whitely, for instance, a Bloomberg News Reporter based in Sydney (who was invited to experience the test flight), said: “I’ve just endured the world’s newest longest flight, a 16,200 kilometer (10,100 mile), nonstop ultra-marathon… [that] took about 19 and a half hours, and was almost as demanding as that sounds,” arriving in Sydney “more or less intact” even if he was “not quite sure what day it was.”
So far so descriptive. It’s not like we’re immune to poetic license either. Besides, Angus does not claim to experience the full “soul-crushing, body-buckling” jet lag the route is known for, something which the Sydney Morning Herald’s Patrick Hatch, who was also on the flight, appears to confirm (“as we prepare for landing, I have to say I’m feeling better now than I was when I touched down in New York five days ago. The journey home was three hours quicker and it didn’t include a traumatic transfer through Los Angeles’ LAX airport”).
But back to the start: after the aircraft takes off, Angus says he follows Qantas’ recommendation of staying awake for at least 6 hours into the New York night, well past his normal rhythm, which is, we reckon, his first mistake. Why? Because – much as we admire Qantas’ attempts to help travellers beat jet lag – in our experience (we’ve tried everything from melatonin to the CIA anti-jetlag diet), no matter how ‘in-sync’ with your destination you try to get on a flight, the only cure to jetlag is time (and a triple shot espresso on your first few breakfasts after landing).
And according to Angus’ description, our theory appears to have credence, with this ‘stay awake’ mandate “immediately cause[ing] trouble for some passengers.”
“They wear movement and light readers on their wrists and have been asked to log their activities; they’ve already been under observation for a few days and will be monitored for 21 days in total. Most of them are bingeing on movies or reading books, but one of them is dozing within minutes. To be fair, I feel his pain. It may be the middle of the day in Sydney, but my body is telling me it’s pushing midnight in New York.”
By the time the lights are dimmed, Angus is able to “crash for six hours straight,” which he says is longer than he can remember sleeping without waking on any other flight. Though this might suggest Qantas’ strategy worked (and who knows, maybe it did), our intuition is that if we had been in his shoes, we’d have just got four, with our body clock rudely waking us up as it came to 7am New York time.
To their credit, Qantas acknowledges this problem, with Alan Joyce (as reported by Bloomberg) saying the trick is accommodating those who want to drink and snooze at will (read: us) as opposed to those who want to follow jetlag procedure.
Our take? If you ever find yourself on a 20 hour flight in the future (should Project Sunrise come commercially to fruition), just go to sleep when you can, for as long as you can, content in the knowledge that either way you’ll be out of whack when you arrive (but without having suffered ~consciousness~ for quite so long on the flight).
