The Keto Diet is a fairly extreme departure from the conventional eating habits of most modern (and for that matter, ancient) humans. The Dubrow Diet, however, gives you more freedom, and still gives you many of the health benefits (without limiting your carbohydrate intake to less than 50 grams a day, a la Keto).
If anyone knows the value of a diet that keeps a fresh face on your debauchery, it’s a Hollywood celebrity. So it’s no surprise The Dubrow diet was developed by a reality TV power couple Heather and Terry Dubrow (Heather is from The Real Housewives of Orange County, Terry is a plastic surgeon and host of the show Botched).
While Keto has hit the mainstream in a way ‘dubrowing’ is yet to, the number of Keto to Dubrow conversion articles online is growing, and – as Americans and Australians catch onto the French version of The Keto Diet (which has various similarities to ‘dubrowing’) – The Dubrow Diet shows every sign of becoming the hedonist’s alternative to Keto.
So even though The Dubrow Diet book hit the shelves in 2018, as a trend it is au courant, having flown under the radar (the hashtag The Dubrow Diet has just 1,596 posts to its name) in comparison to The Keto Diet, which has 6,102,626 hashtags to its name, has been around since the 1920s and which has been popular since Lebron James tried it in 2014.
So, what is The Dubrow Diet? Essentially, ‘dubrowing’ is a devilish mix of keto dieting and intermittent fasting, implemented in a three-phase plan (one famous dabbler of which is Scarlett Johansen, who used it to get into shape for Avengers).
How does it work? Basically, you are given a window each day during which you can consume certain foods, with the time frame ranging from 12 to 16 hours, depending on what part of the plan (phase one, two or three) you are following.
Phase 1.
Phase one of The Dubrow Diet sparks your calorie combustion, by telling you to fast for 16 hours a day. This translates into skipping breakfast, and not eating lunch until about 11am (if you had dinner the night before at 7pm) or 1pm (if you had dinner the night before at 9pm).
Phase 2.
Once you have reached your goal weight (using phase one) you then enter phase two of The Dubrow Diet; 12-hour fasts five days per week (most people choose to do this Monday to Friday) and 16-hour fasts two days a week (weekend lie-ins for the win).
Phase 3.
Like Phase Two, but with a cheat meal allowed every week.
Potential health benefits
Heather Dubrow’s website claims that fasting for 16 or 12 hours a day can not only help you lose weight but can also lower your insulin, fight chronic inflammation, change your skin, and even activate an anti-aging cellular “self-cleaning” process.
What can you eat on the Dubrow Diet?
Unlike the Keto diet – which recommends a fairly strict formula for daily food intake (70 per cent fat, 20 per cent protein and less than 10 per cent carb) the Durbrow Diet simply emphasises eating good quality food that isn’t processed (think: all the same protein and veggies as the Keto diet, plus whatever fruit you want and a less zealous phobia of carbs).
In the first phase of the diet, you are supposed to stick to 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day, which people who have tried it say “isn’t as bad as it sounds.” As Rachael Martin, writing for Body & Soul, put it, “I found that with an eight hour window in which to consume my food for the day, I literally didn’t have time to clock up more calories than that anyway.”
Another difference from Keto, Rachael points out is that once you reach the second and third phases of the diet, “the Dubrows encourage you to work carbs, sugar, and alcohol back into your diet again (in moderation) to make the diet sustainable.”
So ready that decanter.
How easy is the Dubrow Diet to stick to?
The third phase of The Dubrow Diet appears easier to stick to than The Keto Diet – something which Rachael Martin, who tested The Dubrow Diet, can explain.
“I found the flexibility in food choices allowed on the diet made planning meals and, potentially more importantly, grabbing food on the go, fairly easy. Moreover, as a Pescatarian, the lack of focus on eating meat was a welcome change from other weight loss plans,” she wrote.
“The fact that the diet becomes a little less strict in the later phases also made it much easier to stick to. In the first weeks of Phase One when I was struggling, I knew there was a light at the end of the tunnel (and a glass of wine at the end of the week).”
The Dubrow Diet drawbacks
Although Rachael (in our view) exaggerates the “ever growing list of suspicious (and downright nasty) sounding side effects (keto crotch anyone?)” of the Keto diet, The Dubrow Diet has its shortcomings too.
According to Healthline, the Dubrow Diet focuses on your short term appearance (read: weight loss) and slowing signs of aging “rather than improving your overall health.”
The diet also provides quite general recommendations for which foods (and how much) to eat, which less-experienced dieters might find hard to follow or – worse – might cause the inexperienced to eat too few calories.
Additionally, although cutting calories can promote weight loss, Healthline warns that “not eating enough can harm your metabolism and may cause side effects like fatigue, weakness, changes in mood, and lack of focus.”
Oh and despite intermittent fasting being generally considered safe, it’s not recommended for people with certain health conditions, such as type 1 diabetes or low blood pressure (or anyone who has had an eating disorder).
What the experts say
Accredited Practising Dietician Melissa Meier told Body & Soul she could see the short term benefits of the Dubrow Diet, but is less sure about how easy it really is to stick to.
“Overall, the Dubrow Diet is similar to intermittent fasting – however instead of only dictating when you can and can’t eat, it also has limitations on what to eat.”
“Just like intermittent fasting, it will probably help with weight loss, although its restrictions make me think it isn’t going to be sustainable in the long term for most people. I also tread very carefully with any diet that limits certain foods or food groups, as chances are, you’re going to miss out on important nutrients,” she added.

Brooklyn Beckham, the son of the former football great and all-round handsome bastard, David Beckham, is busy making a name for himself for his unique sense of style now he’s of legal clubbing age.The upcoming photographer and part-time model attended the Agent Provocateur AW19 campaign launch party, in collaboration with Sink The Pink and CIROC Vodka, at London’s cool club, Annabel’s, earlier this week.Brooklyn hit the event wearing a unique combination that would be more suited to the set of Peaky Blinders than a London nightclub in 2019. A cropped khaki green tweed jacket paired with a low-cut white t-shirt, green wide-legged wool trousers with braces, black Dr Marten boots and a variety of men’s jewellery, rings and even a matching yellow rock-climbing carabiner. In a funny coincidence, his ex Hana Cross was also wearing braces (Off White braces, to be exact), however, according to The Sun, she left the party early in tears. Drama!
This is not the first time the Beckhams have opted for attire that’s more suited for the English countryside. David and the boys did a spot of fishing last year all wearing matching tweed hats. Whether this is clever styling or just how the Beckhams roll on weekends, we totally approve.
Looks like the rock climbing carabiner clip is a regular thing…https://www.instagram.com/p/B2XJhmSFS4m/Let’s see what else this budding style icon has in store for us next.

For some, spring racing is Christmas come early – a chance to get the guys together, suit up, and give the beer a good nudge, all prior to lunchtime. It’s the only time of the year where you can get completely rinsed and look like someone your grandmother might respect in the process.
Year round, most of us are restricted to the simple sartorial palette of corporate life. During racing season, not so much. Come October, an entirely different rule book comes into play, particularly when track side, and it’s an opportunity to make that bold sartorial statement you’ve thought too much for the office.
The Fundamentals
Acing the racing season is about more than just picking a winner and ensuring you don’t fall face-first into the grass before you’ve won your money back.
If there is only one non-negotiable for racing season, it’s finding the right kit. And while separates – a blazer and trousers – are quickly becoming the go-to, there’s still a place for the classic two-piece. Particularly for some of the bigger race meets, a suit in pale grey or blue is a great way to straddle the line between formal tailoring and the frivolity of Spring Racing.
Suits

As with your work suits, synthetic materials are for suckers. Stick to natural fibres and a slim fit. Many brands are now experimenting with new takes on tradition when it comes to tailoring and it’s worth experimenting with what works for you. The cardinal rule is keep it trim – not tight. After all, it’s a suit, not compression wear.
Despite what we just said, it’s no longer expressly mandatory to suit up at the races. Separates can be worn on some of the more casual racing days and they’re particularly handy if you don’t want to spend a matzah on a completely new suit every time you head to the track. However, if you’re embracing separates there are some rules to follow.
Use a dedicated blazer for the occasion (not one of your suit jackets). Cotton and linen are great alternatives to wool, and with less focus on tradition you can experiment with different colours and patterns. Bold checks are enjoying some time in the sun this season so jump on board, blocking with a plain white shirt, floral tie and contrasting trousers.
The trousers you pair with your blazer are equally important. Avoid clashing prints and focus on a block base that leads the eye to the jacket. Ensure that they’re tailored correctly too, opting for a slightly higher crop if you’re that way inclined. This ensures your look feels purposeful and not like you’ve just whacked on a bold jacket over a pair of work pants.
Gone are the days where a crisp white shirt was mandatory for entry to the races.
With the exception of some of the more formal race days – Flemington’s Derby – you’ve now got way more to choose from.
If it’s a white shirt, go for a neat point collar or perhaps contrast buttons to differentiate it from your work stuff. Patterns – florals, checks, and geometry – used to cop a bit of heat but can (and should) be done. Lean into this season’s trends by blocking similar hues (like pale coral) in different patterns. Make sure it’s tastefully coordinated with your tie, and don’t go for a pattern salad. You can avoid this by incorporating patterns that are different sizes i.e. large checks and a smaller paisley print.
Shoes

Even if you end up losing them later that night, you’ll never make a good entrance to the races without solid footwear. Here we break down the classics and the upstarts that might be better options.
Derby or Oxfords
A wardrobe staple for any gent, these will be your bread and butter for the season. They should be leather, not purchased from the bottom of a clearance bin, and polished before the day.
Loafers
Loafers on the other hand, are the next best thing (and twice as comfortable). Suede, horse bit loafers or even driving shoes add a rakish, dressed-down element to the pomp of the day. Given they exude a more laid-back feel, ensure that they’re well-maintained and invest in a suede brush to give them a fresh lease on life once you’re done tearing up the track.
Everyone seems to enjoy a good accessory binge during racing season. And while we acknowledge there might be a peacock hiding inside every solemn corporate gent, there are rules about when and when not to deck yourself out in every piece of shiny treasure under the sun.
The Perfect Tie

Knitted or grenadine – are a must (you’re not going to Friday knock-offs after all). Keep the colours simple and make sure you don’t overload the look with patterns. Avoid anything Wall Street shiny or wide, and be mindful about what you’re pairing it with. A bold, patterned shirt with a thick striped tie doesn’t look good on anyone.
Expert Tie Tip
Tie knots are the next key thing: unless you fancy resembling an overly corporate fat cat, stay away from the ugly and pompous Windsor knot and think about a more rakish alternative, like the double four-in-hand.
Jeff Lack – Stylist
Lapel Pins

These are a staple, but can be tricky: too much colour coordination looks like you hired a personal stylist (no good) but if you’re not going bling-heavy elsewhere, tie pins can be a neat way to compliment your outfit’s primary colour.
Tie Bars

Another popular accessory, but again, the wrong one will scream ‘corporate’ in an environment where everyone is trying to forget about Microsoft Excel for a day. A slim silver bar with mild detailing is all you should need.
Pocket Hankies

Following ties, the a pocket square is a mandatory feature of your outfit. And the only real rule is to never, ever match the hankie to your tie, unless ‘budget wedding package’ is the theme of the day (which it never is). Otherwise, go your hardest with colours, patterns, and so on.
Cufflinks

Every man should own a good pair of cufflinks. Make sure they match the colour of the rest of your jewellery (i.e. don’t mix gold with silver) and there’s nothing wrong with a subtle novelty piece – plain cufflinks have been done ad nauseam before.
Socks

Another area where you can add some colour – but avoid the pull of being the ‘funny socks guy’. Alternatively, if you are one for an exposed ankle, invisible socks are a great option – just ensure you’ve brushed up on dress codes as some race days are notorious for knocking gents back if they’re sans socks.
Man-Jewellery
This is governed by the style norms you’d see anywhere else: when in doubt, less is more. Resist the urge to deck yourself out in six wristbands and a ring-per-finger like an extra in a pirate movie.
Whether you’re a consummate dandy already or more of an emerging sartorial force, racing season is the ultimate opportunity to dabble where you haven’t before. And if that means playing with some bold prints in the accessories department, opting for contrasting separates or simply changing up your sock colour, don’t be afraid to venture outside the lines.
Regardless of your look, the ultimate style statement is remaining upright until the final race – after that, all bets are off. Dress well and happy punting.

Sophistication-seeking foodies might covet Qantas, Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific with all their stomachs, but a new set of 2019 Travel Awards suggests there is a crucial name missing from that list: Japan Airlines.
Travel search engine Kayak.com is the one doling them out, after conducting traveller-based surveys of its audience to bring us its inaugural Travel Awards.
The scores, which are calculated from ratings and reviews from travellers, compare food, boarding, entertainment, crew and comfort between Asia-Pacific airlines, and have placed Japan Airlines at #1 for 2019.
As Kayak.com reveals in its methodology section, “In order to qualify for selection as best airline in 2019 for a category, an airline must have had a minimum of 150 new reviews published within 2018 with a minimum overall rating of 6.1 for the category.”
As ESCAPE reports, “Japan Airlines is renowned for its fine dining, award-winning seats and signature omotenashi-style approach to customer service.”
Customer feedback on Kayak.com appears to support this claim: “I hope to always find the great deals I have with Japan Airlines and continue with a smooth travelling experience as this one!”
However, despite these rave reviews, Japan Airlines came in at 7th in the more established Skytrax Best Airlines In Asia rankings this year, 10th in the world in AirlineRatings.com’s annual awards for 2019, and fifth in TripAdvisor’s 2019 airline rankings.
So much as you might like to celebrate with an $800 sushi train feast, for now, at least, we would suggest you maintain your calm…
That said, Asian airlines dominated the Kayak awards, with Qantas being the only Australian airline to rank in Kayak’s results, landing at eighth for Best Airline Entertainment, ninth for Best Airline Boarding, and 10th for Best Airline Crew.
ANA Airlines (the largest carrier in Japan), meanwhile, came in at second – so there may be more opportunities for sake-related celebration in the years to come.
See the full list below.

Pointy End flyers are used to getting everything they want. However, no matter how much you pay, there is one dish Qantas will never serve in the sky: crispy tempura.
Rockpool Chef Alex Woolley yesterday revealed this as part of Qantas’ spring menu launch, which involves an overhaul of Qantas’ in-flight and lounge dining options at Sydney International Airport.
As reported by News.com.au, “To launch the new First and Business Class Lounge and In-flight spring menu, Rockpool Chef Alex Woolley showed off a string of new dishes designed specifically for the warmer months.”
“Taking advantage of fresh and local produce, the ultra-fresh inspiration played on recipes that featured asparagus, peas, snap peas and beans.”
However, even though crispy dishes (like Salt and Pepper Squid, of which customers eat 100,000 serves every year) are some of the most ordered menu items in the First Class lounge, Chef Woolley says that – no matter what – they will never take this concept to the air.
“We are focused on what will eat well and fly well while maintaining integrity… So we would never try and do a crispy tempura in an aircraft because you will never be able to replicate that, so we stay away from things you will have bad quality in the sky,” News.com.au yesterday reported.
“We spend a lot of time developing items we would love to eat or our customers would love to eat and decide if the item is acceptable for the flight or if people will be disappointed,” he added.
“But the rule is, anything crispy really is a challenge in the air, so we won’t do it. Some things just need to be left on the ground.”
That said, a few favourite dishes will be making a first-class resurgence, like the snapper in garam masala, a dish which hasn’t been seen on Qantas in 10 years.
Not to mention the Affogato dessert, a tea-smoked Bundarra pork with black vinegar sauce, seasonal greens and jasmine rice, all set to ensnare the senses of first-class passengers.
As for business-class, guests can now enjoy chicken schnitzel and Swiss cheese toasted sandwiches, and chocolate bread and butter puddings with mascarpone.
Economy passengers don’t go neglected either, with this bi-annual menu change including a fresh roast chicken salad with tahini, kale, spiced cauliflower and cranberries, a lamb shepherd’s pie with parmesan crumb and green beans or the choice of steamed fish with black pepper sauce and shiitake mushrooms, jasmine rice and choy sum.
And who’d have thought – air travel used to be known for its suspicious smelling curries and stale bread.

Congratulations, you’ve just gotten your first bachelor pad or have thrown out the posters from when you were 14, either or, it’s quite an achievement, your growing up. Now, even though you’ve got all of your Ikea furniture sprawled throughout the space, it still, for some reason seems empty and bland. So, it’s probably time to get some art to hang on your walls before people start thinking your some personality-less psychopath.
Why should I get art or art prints?
You might feel that art is just an expensive, posh hobby for the well off, but in fact, art prints are an effective and enjoyable way of demonstrating to others who you are, what you value, your perspective on culture and the world itself. You might want a photo of Gianni Agnelli on your wall to show your desire to be successful, sophisticated and cool or perhaps your love for relaxation will see you hang one of David Hockney’s paintings on your wall. You might even choose to put up something more abstract like a collection of skateboards. Your personal curation of artwork and/or art prints is really a representation of yourself which, much like the clothes you wear and the car you drive is rather important and well worth both your time and money.
The second key reason why you should be considering delving into the world of art and art prints is that it shows you’re cultured. By that we mean you are aware of the greater world around you and the other people, places, things and ideas that it encompasses, which, everyone will respect.
What kind of art should I get?
We’ve whittled the rather complicated and contrived art world into two key styles and mediums that will work well in any bachelor pad. We recognise that we haven’t included every style and medium of ‘artwork’ but these two are your safest and most affordable bets.
Photography:
You’ve all seen a photograph, you’ve also definitely taken one. They’re a simple method of capturing a specific place or person at a specific time. Whilst you might think that you’ve got some great shots of a sunset or that one time you went to Italy, they probably suck, and when seen on anything bigger than your iPhone screen will probably look like they’re comprised of four pixels. As simple as photography may seem it’s best left to the professionals. Below you can see a great selection of ultra-cool shots of celebrities, architecture, cars and landscapes.
Abstract/prints:
Once an artist has created a print, they’re pretty simple to replicate and hence typically cheaper than other art forms. This accessibility and ease of production have made art prints both a really popular medium for artists and a popular choice for bachelors. There is an array of cool art prints out there that will perfectly suit your style and personality, whether it be your love for cars, passion for drinking or desire to relax; there is an art print for you.
Whilst it might seem like a daunting and expensive task to get your pad decked out with the coolest artwork you can, we’ve found a selection of affordable, timeless and ultra-cool art prints just for you.

We’d all like triceratops triceps but the reality is often a lot more jiggly. However, if you are looking to turn your arms into Cuban missiles, Scotty Evennett’s latest workout could be just what you need to give ~reality~ the bird.Scotty Evennett is an ex commando and one of Australia’s most prominent figures in the functional strength training space, who has previously revealed to D’Marge how to get ripped without weights, how to build strength and stamina like a special forces agent, and dietary techniques for building muscle mass.Today though, we’re focussing on Scotty’s latest (and perhaps most brutal) workout challenge, which involves doing Olympic ring dips weighed down by a tyre.
We could wax on about the different ways this builds your triceps, but let’s be honest: it’s pretty simple: it works them bloody hard.RELATED: Most Effective Ways To Get Huge Arms, According To A TrainerOur plan of attack? We’d start with bodyweight dips, progress to ‘plated’ dips, and after many months (perhaps years) of training, chain ourselves to a tyre and film the consequences. In other words, it’s not so much challenge accepted, as challenge postponed.Keen to try it yourself? Just don’t get ‘tyred’.

Funny guy Jonah Hill and NYC resident took to the streets today in his signature jeans, kicks and a t-shirt. So far so normal: I know.
Was he out grabbing a cinnamon latte? Who knows (and who cares) because it was his choice of watch that grabbed our attention.
The star of films such as War Dogs and Superbad is known to have acquired some ‘unique’ timepieces over the years. One such piece is his Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 116508 ‘Aussie Edition’ in yellow gold with a bright emerald green dial.
The 116508 was released at Baselworld in 2017 to little fanfare (until John Mayer flashed his). Now you have to look a little harder to find one in a Rolex boutique.
If we’re being honest it wouldn’t be our first choice of Rolex Daytona, but maybe that’s why it’s cool. With so many people waiting over three years to get a steel Rolex sports model, it’s little wonder we’re seeing more men wearing solid gold variations.
This also means the days of solid gold watches being strictly reserved for pawnbrokers and shady stockbrokers are behind us thanks to celebrities choosing these unique models.
The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona 116508 currently retails for AU$40,000.
