If the notion of death scares you then look away. Tourists in Bali are being warned to steer clear of a sacred burial site in the country’s northern region which specialises in above-ground graves where the deceased are left to fully decompose in the open.
The morbid burial process which is unique to Trunyan Village involves placing the dead in bamboo cages under a sacred tree. The bodies have their heads wrapped in cloth but beyond that they are on full display to any passer-by as they enter their natural stages of decomposition – the cloth rarely lasts. We’re not going to include pictures of decomposing bodies here (you can Google the village) but we are going to highlight some of the tours that are encouraging travellers to smile and pose with rows of human skulls.
These bones and skulls are collected once the bodies have fully decomposed and placed on display in the small village. This act has caused outrage amongst some tourists, according to Yahoo News. A scathing Facebook post from one tourist warned travellers not to pay for the “must do” tour which takes advantage of the area’s poverty-stricken by commercialising a sacred cultural practice that should be respected.
“To anyone considering going to this cemetery, perhaps reconsider. In places such as Bali where poverty is so prevalent, the temptation to exploit sacred cultural sites by a few is imminent,” the Facebook user wrote.
“As humans we have a huge fascination with death and burials and I’m sure the majority don’t intend to disrespect the locals.”
Another tourist reinforced the concern and claims that villagers were getting annoyed at people trampling all over the grounds.
“I was in Bali earlier this year and several Balinese folk that I spoke to, including guides, strongly discourage people visiting this site,” the user wrote.
“Some locals who need the money will reluctantly take tourists on the boat over the lake, but this is causing friction in the local community.”
The issue it seems isn’t so much with the tourism but the fine line of where death becomes an monetised attraction. One woman claimed that a greedy tourist operator from outside of the village had taken her to see a man from the village who encouraged her to get closer to the bodies for photos.
On the other side of the fence, some tourists argued that it was the family members of the deceased who dressed them and placed them on display in the first place.
“I was thinking about going on my next trip. I was justifying it as the Balinese often carry out their cremations quite publicly,” said one lady on Facebook.
We’re not going to join this debate but we will be pragmatic about it: Getting up close and personal with decomposing bodies is riskier than you think. Medical professionals say that those in close contact with the dead are often subjected to health risks in the form of chronic infectious diseases that the deceased may have been suffering from. Think hepatitis B and hepatitis C, HIV, enteric intestinal pathogens, tuberculosis, cholera and others which are all spread through direct contact.
Now who said the dead can’t kill?

When the mad man suits up, the world listens. Maybe not this time, though. That’s because Jon Hamm just paired a classic check grey suit with an Apple Watch complete with a white rubber strap at the premiere of ‘Good Omens’ in London.
Hamm, a self-described tech junkie and Apple fan, has built himself a solid reputation as a sartorial style icon thanks to his leading role in the hit series Mad Men. It was a show which revolved around an alpha male advertising exec toiling his way through 1960s New York. Needless to say his character’s choice in suiting was immaculate and one that was also credited for reinvigorating the popularity of tie bars and pocket squares in modern menswear.
Whilst some traditionalists disapprove of smart watches with suits altogether, we’re not entirely against it – unless it looks oddly out of place with a white rubber strap. By simply picking a smart watch with a stainless steel strap, the aesthetic totally changes from ‘I Just Came From A Game Of Squash’ to ‘This Damn Smart Watch Is Made For A Suit’.
Those who aren’t fans of stainless steel bands can also go for stainless mesh to keep things looking dressy. If you’re really after the classic look, try TAG Heuer’s Modular 41, Montblanc’s Summit 2 or Louis Vuitton’s Tambour Horizon – all dressier variants of the modern smart watch. Or you can throw out the rule book and just do what Bradley Cooper did this week by wearing a $30,000 dress watch with flip flops.

Land Rover Defenders aren’t cheap these days especially if you’re chasing a decent vintage example which can often command over $100,000. Thankfully there is a reprieve. Just like the popular design aesthetic of sports cars during the 1970s, four-wheel-drives also had their own defining look. They were boxy, rugged and always exuded an air of adventure in the purest form. That notion still stands till this day especially since most four-wheel-drives have become more urbanised.
And this little Suzuki Jimny is the one that will take you right back to the good old days. It’s on sale in Australia for just $14,999 on Car Sales and is a relative bargain considering it has no rust and has been stripped back to bare metal for a full respray – the first since leaving the factory floor. Even the running gear has been given a new life with a new engine, new bearings, linkages, seals, brakes and everything else a collector would want ticked off the list. Interior-wise the original seats have also been recovered with new foam.
The car which is on historic plates is pretty much ready to run, should that be your intention. Watch the video below to see the work that’s gone into the car and then process your order here.
And if you’re super keen, check out Suzuki’s walk down memory lane with the iconic Jimny.

Australian travellers lust after Qantas’ platinum frequent flyer program more than Hypebeasts lust after a hot new sneaker drop. Unfortunately, this comes with an annual, gut-wrenching realisation that your points are about to expire, due to the airlines’ “use it or lose it” policy.
However, some Aussies channel this frustration into genius, as Rowena Ryan (a Sydney-based travel writer for Escape magazine), recently revealed.
Needing to earn 185 status credits in one month, “To retain those first class feels” (Escape), Rowena explained why she was so keen to put herself through hell (and three different time-zones) just to keep her travel industry street cred alive.
“This is my second year as a Qantas platinum frequent flyer. There are so many things I love about it. First class lounge access around the world and really generous baggage allowances are just a few. It’s also easier to accrue points,” (Escape).
“I plan to travel extensively over the next 12 months… And when you are living out of a suitcase it (being a platinum level pond-skipper) takes away a lot of the stress, making travelling super efficient and easy and enabling me to concentrate on my work.”
Fortunately, Rowena was employed in a profession which permitted her to work remotely. She also had an interview-project called ‘passionate people’ on the go, and so planned a 30-day trip, killing two birds with three flights.
In those 30 days she travelled from Sydney to the UK, from New York to San Francisco, from San Francisco to Seattle (where, on the way, she explored the California Redwoods, Crater Lake and Portland) and then from Vancouver back to Sydney, via Hawaii (as you do).
Rowena largely stayed with family, friends or in shared accommodation, taking recommendations about where to stay next from people she met. For example, she told Escape, “I met by chance at a ‘drive-through-tree’ an amazing couple in their 70s who had ridden from San Francisco to Alaska and back on a motorbike,” and whose mantra was, ‘do epic sh*t.’
If you’d like the opportunity to meet some bearded prophets (and make some frequent flyer profits) of your own, then Rowena advises you find a way to travel long haul multiple times a year.
“You need 1400 status credits within a year to be eligible and then 1200 per year to retain it,” (Escape).
To put this in perspective, Escape explains, “A Qantas frequent flyer can earn 295 status credits for a one-way Sydney to London flight in business class,” so it would take 4.75 one-way trips, or 2.5 return trips, to attain platinum status and 4.07 one-way trips (before each year’s cut off) to retain the status.
Looking for more devious ways to score points? David Flynn, CEO of Australian Business Traveller, once wrote a piece about doing a Status Run; a long and convoluted flight, conducted at a point in time when the points you can score are doubled (to know when this is in play, you’ll need to keep a steady eye on Qantas and the news).
“Instead of doing the direct flight, you cook up a more creative routing which sees your Noumea trip (for example) become part of a longer itinerary where the journey officially starts from the likes of Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide instead of Sydney, and pinballs between several cities before connecting to the international flight.”
“In my case,” David added, “I took an economy flight from Sydney to Canberra to set up the run…Then I flew Canberra-Brisbane, Brisbane-Melbourne and Melbourne-Sydney, all in business class and on a single day, ahead of the final leg to Noumea. On my return from Noumea I basically repeated that flying pattern in reverse.”
“All up, this admittedly convoluted itinerary netted me 840 status credits: sufficient to lock in my Qantas Platinum status to 2020.”
While this is very impressive, it still seems that if you find yourself short of frequent flyer status credits, to extract yourself from the situation you either need to be good with numbers, very time (and money) rich, or have access to an enthusiastic travel agent.

When it comes to restaurant dining there’s nothing worse than a picky diner. That’s according professional chefs around the world who have banded together on Reddit to share and call out demanding foodies for their bad behaviour. The worse thing? It’s not even at the fine dining establishments where these demands happen. The infuriating orders extend from the local pub bistro right to the high end of town’s dining districts.
It’s a rather hilarious compilation of tales from people ordering things that are either off-menu, hilariously contradicting or just a result of the latest food fads (i.e. gluten-free everything). So what did some of these chef’s have to say?
Seafood Which Smells Fishy
“Had a group complain that their scallops ‘tasted like they came from the bottom of the ocean’. That’s literally where scallops come from. Fucking people, man,” exclaimed venBraverLilToaster.
Bland Schnitzel Which Wasn’t Fried
Another chef expressed the infuriating nature of those who order dishes to be prepared in a specific way before complaining that it wasn’t done the way they wanted.
“Lady ordered chicken schnitzel but didn’t want it deep fried so she wanted it grilled. So she got her breaded grilled chicken and complained that it was bland,” said a chef named quietppb.
Calamari Isn’t Sexy Enough
“Guy didn’t want his calamari deep fried because he was on a diet, so we pan friend it in minimal oil and he complained because it didn’t look as good. Lady ordered truffle sauce, complained because it was ‘too strong’. It’s fucking truffle you idiot what do you expect!!!”
Attack Of The Vegans
Even the vegans weren’t off limits for these chefs with a user named ‘lightwell’ explaining their customer ordeal.
“A woman asked me for something on the menu with no potato or starches, no corn, no wheat, no soy, no vegan cheese, nothing processed, no added sugar, and no fruit. I suggested a salad. A plain salad.”
She replied: “I don’t want a salad, that’s all I have at home. When I eat out I want something different.”
Attack Of The Gluten Fiends
And then we have the gluten cult followers fiends. One chef provided some serious advice for those who commonly demand gluten-free dishes.
“Stop ordering dishes that aren’t promoted as being gluten free in the first place, if you actually aren’t gluten intolerant.”
“The dishes that are marked as gluten-free are prepared so that absolutely no contamination will occur. If a dish is not gluten free and you ask for it to be, it will halt all production in the kitchen until your dish is done. And sometimes you won’t get the exact dish because of prep work on ingredients, which might involve being in contact with gluten.”
In other words you’re making it worse for other diners if you’re being picky instead of actually being gluten-intolerant.
It Also Happens In Australia…
Australian chef Dan Hong who is the Executive Chef at Merivale’s Mr Wong, Ms G’s and The Establishment in Sydney has entertained thousands of his Instagram followers by posting the ridiculous food orders he comes across in the kitchen. Here’s a few of his gems.
For the uninitiated, Kung Pao chicken’s main ingredient after chicken is in actual fact…chilli.
To shellfish or not to shellfish?

Suits with sneakers. It’s a concept that still escapes many men today who believe that formal and casual should never mix. Well, we’re here to tell you that the two can indeed play nice together if you get the stylish formula right.
Choosing The Right Sneakers
When choosing a sneaker to go with your suit it’s critical to consider colours and material. The most versatile suit sneakers are usually the most muted ones. This is because the casual suited look is intended to exude effortless style rather than gain attention through loud colours.
As such, we recommend you leave the serious neon marathon runners out of your suit wardrobe. Instead, opt for casual sneakers which are more lifestyle focused than performance-focused. Leather is always a no-brainer.
Once you’ve chosen your ideal pair of sneakers, taking inspiration from the list below, then check out our complete guide telling you how to wear sneakers with a suit.
Sneaker colours that work well for suits are:
You can also try brighter colours like red, green, and yellow but caution must be exercised as these colours need careful consideration pairing with your suit of choice. You don’t want to look like a traffic light.

Choosing The Right Suit
It’s easy to fall down the rabbit hole when talking about suit and sneaker pairings, so the easiest rule to remember is this: no sneakers with tuxedos, as they are reserved for cocktail events only.
Wearing Sneakers With Suits FAQs
What sneaker cut is best with suits?
Choose low-top sneakers that show your ankles, something that are sleek and fitted, with a similar silhouette to a dress shoe. Minimalist with monochrome or subtle two-tone uppers.
What are the best materials for dress sneakers?
The finest dress sneakers are usually made of top-quality dress shoe leathers, but a nice suede will do. Canvas and synthetic also work, but rarely, so make sure you choose carefully.
How to match suits with shoes?
Black dress sneakers look best with black and navy suits, as well as charcoal. For white sneakers, tan, navy, or light gray suits pair nicely. Brown sneakers go with brown suits.

There’s setting the bar high…then there’s setting the bar to untouchable status. Welcome to Bradley Cooper‘s ultimate dad style.
The 44-year-old Hangover actor was spotted over the weekend in Los Angeles with his wife Irina Shayk and young daughter Lea looking like a bonafide family man who wouldn’t look out of place at your local home depot store. He had the NFL team cap (Philly Eagles), the varsity sweater in mandatory grey marle, cargo pants (bet you didn’t know they still made those), aviator sunglasses and grey flip flops (likely the finest offering from Havianas). In other words he proudly looked just like every other awesome dad in the world…almost.
Save for the fact that he was jumping into a slick black Mercedes-Benz G Wagen, Cooper also paired his epic dadcore look with an IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Limited Edition IW501007 which retails in the region of AU$30,000 for a used one. That’s serious wrist candy you wouldn’t want near any kid who could potentially projectile vomit on you at any time. But hey, each cool dad to their own.
The IWC timepiece has been seen on Cooper before, most recently spotted at the press conference for A Star is Born in a more fitting attire consisting of a blazer and collared shirt. We guess you can’t argue against daily wearability.
Your move, average dad.
