The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen is so often regarded as one of the coolest cars to roam the blacktop. After a short hiatus between 2017-2018, the German automaker resurrected the G-Class SUV with modern-day mechanics and technologies to please even the fussiest franconian.
Independent suspension, touchscreens, and air conditioning are all well and good, but they can’t compete with the übercool appeal of a vintage model. Enter this 1986 Mercedes-Benz 230GE Auto 4WD. We’ll leave you to ogle at the pictures for a little while before continuing on.
Production of the iconic Geländewagen for the public started in 1979 – the Vatican took delivery of a ‘Papa G’ Popemobile in 1980 – but it wasn’t until 1982 that the 230GE variant was introduced. This 1986 model arrived before Mercedes gave it a facelift in 1990, so it represents one of the first designs to leave the factory in Graz, Austria.
After leaving Austria, this particular model eventually found its way to Japan, before being imported into Australia, making it an incredibly rare find on these shores. According to the seller, it’s been kept mechanically sound throughout its life and has even benefitted from a new exhaust and off-road suspension, making it one-of-a-kind.
Elsewhere it’s received a new, orange paint respray (which we think looks incredible) complete with black matte roof, bull bars for ramming pesky pedestrians out the way, and black rims. The mileage for a car of this age is low, too, with just 83,000kms on the clock, but we’ll admit the interior looks a little dated, however, for a car over 30 years old, it’s perfectly acceptable.
And all this car can be yours for AU$40,000, with $500 change, simply head to the Carsales website. We’d take it over a $250,000 modern-day equivalent any day.

Honore de Balzac once wrote, “Were it not for coffee one could not write, which is to say one could not live.” The famous French novelist, who was rumoured to drink 50 cups of java a day, went on to say, “As soon as coffee is in your stomach, there is a general commotion. Ideas begin to move…similes arise, the paper is covered.”
“Coffee is your ally and writing ceases to be a struggle.”
While I can’t hold a saucer to Honore’s writing, I’m not far off his espresso habit. And even though our black juice addiction isn’t quite in the same vein as a true junkie, like every other coffee head I know, I dread the feeling of purgatory that takes hold if I miss my first cup of the day.I wasn’t always bent to the bean lord. I tried sachet Mocha when I was fifteen and hated it. I didn’t try it again until I was 18. From there I spent three years on flat whites, settling on a healthy average of two a day. Then I went to France. Two became five and, unable to figure out my residence’s vending machine, I ended up hooked on the most saccharine sweetener you’ve ever spat out. To cut a rambling ‘exchange student’ story short, I tried to sort out my affairs (and waistline) upon my return and made the leap to soy flat whites (developing lactose intolerance after 20 years of honing your dairy addiction really sucks).
However, turns out soy can be worse for your stomach than milk. So now I’m tongue over credit card with long blacks. Iced, warm, instant: you name it, I’ll drink it. And if I don’t get my four a day my productivity plummets. On that note, despite my self proclaimed role as an ~experiential~ journalist, I’ve never considered giving up coffee for a week. But as I came down with a virus last week (I never fancy coffee anyway when I’m sick), I figured this could be my only chance to go cold turkey. So with a cheating advantage already in favour, I set out to begin the task. Here’s what it’s like to give up coffee for a week – as a caffeine addict.
View this post on Instagram
Day One (Tuesday)
Woke at 7am. Texted work. Went back to bed until 12. Went to doctors. Forgot medicare card. Bought antibiotics. Went home. No desire for coffee.
Day Two (Wednesday)
Home again sick. Skipped both my normal 8am and 10am coffee slots by being asleep. Coffee vaguely crosses my mind while I eat my 11am breakfast, only to be quickly met with disgust. I slurp an English breakfast tea and get on with my Netflix. No further cravings to speak of.
Day Three (Thursday)
Back to work! Peeling my eyelids open is like removing the plastic tab on a bottle of Heinz after having just cut your fingernails. Fall out of bed and attain semi-consciousness in the shower. Feel guilt and pride as I walk past my barista without stopping. Arrive at work five minutes early. What sorcery is this? Even better, as I’m still crook, I’m able to navigate the dull sense that something is missing from my desk with yet more English breakfast tea and panadol. Cravings beginning to return.
Day Four (Friday)
I congratulate myself for skipping the caffeine withdrawal stage while sick (two birds, one stone) and leave for work with 5 minutes to spare. However, as I walk past my barista, my heart stops – and not because of his low lying scoop neck. Anyhow… I sit down at my desk and try to write. Nothing comes out. Green tea gets me over the hump, but I still feel like a Dell laptop from 2008.I also find myself missing those little moments in the day that came with coffee. As Gertrude Stein put it: “Coffee gives you time to think. It’s a lot more than just a drink; it’s something happening. Not as in hip, but like an event, a place to be, but not like a location, but like somewhere within yourself.”
“It gives you time, but not actual hours or minutes, but a chance to be, like be yourself, and have a second cup.”
Day Five (Saturday)
View this post on Instagram
I wake up at 7am feeling a strange desire to get out of bed. In other words: it may have ruined my mid-week productivity but it seems switching coffee for tea has done wonders for my circadian rythm. Problem is, now I feel good, I want to celebrate with a coffee. Like, really really. I suppress the urge and go for a walk, only to find the rest of civilisation enjoying the pleasure I sought to forget. I make it to the end of the day and, sure enough, I’m out like a light (considering I’m usually a raging insomniac this is no mean feat).
Day Six (Sunday)
The desire for coffee continues to grow. But as I don’t need to be on the ball today, it’s not too bad to ignore. Mild headache too, but that could be from the obscene amount of junk food I end up binging.
Day Seven (Monday)
View this post on Instagram
It’s official: my coffee cravings have caught me. I am finally 100% healthy but I’ve never felt so listless. Minor tasks are like dragging a boulder uphill, and I can’t summon the energy to open my inbox. Not only am I anxious, but my slow processing power is making me more anxious. Before I know it I’m asking myself: why do I live in this area? What am I doing with my life? Does my barista miss me? Why did I start drinking coffee in the first place? Tomorrow can’t come soon enough.
Day Eight (Tuesday)
Bliss. I enjoy a regular long black, then read a quote from American author Dave Barry (“it is inhumane, in my opinion, to force people who have a genuine medical need for coffee to wait in line behind people who apparently view it as some kind of recreational activity”) and resolve never to fall into that state again.
Day Nine (Wednesday)
View this post on Instagram
Deadlines loom and my promise slides. But damn it’s good to be fast.
Conclusions
While some may have the patience to give it up, I’m a sucker for the mental clarity, motivation and mini-breaks associated with going and getting a coffee at least a couple of times a day.I also find the physical drawbacks of such an addiction are outweighed by the solidarity you get from being hooked on the same substance as everyone else.Much like someone who gives up drinking without ever having been an alcoholic, to anyone I meet who doesn’t drink coffee I have to ask: who even are you? I know it sounds glib but, unless you’re an elite athlete, why the hell wouldn’t you drink coffee?

James Bond and Omega watches go together like a choc top and popcorn. The MI6 secret service agent has been wearing the Swiss watchmaker’s timepieces in various films ever since 1995’s Goldeneye. 007’s next outing in the forthcoming ‘No Time To Die’, will see blond Bond Daniel Craig don another Omega Seamaster time teller, and this time he’s had an input in the final design – fitting, seeing as this will be his last movie as the notorious agent.
Based on the Seamaster Diver 300M, but with a few tweaks in design, the new 007 Edition sports an aged brown hue on its newly introduced aluminium dial. That colouring is one of the aspects decided by Craig, who wanted his character’s latest model to have a “unique edge.”

The British spy will have no issues wearing it on various missions around the globe, either, as it’s constructed from Grade 2 titanium, known for its durability and lightweight properties. And thanks to an adjustment of the doming of the case, this model is slimmer than previous Diver 300Ms, so James will barely know it’s there.
Omega has engraved an array of numbers on the caseback, to signify naval code numbers; diver’s watch numbers; James Bond’s agent number; and the year the first Bond film was released, to make this non-limited edition watch that little bit more exclusive.
While you will have to wait to see Bond wearing the latest Omega in No Time To Die when it’s released in April, you can order the timepiece, with either a mesh bracelet ($9,200) or a NATO strap ($8,100) right now (shipping begins in February).

The Apple AirPods have divided opinion ever since they were first launched in 2016: Tiny walrus tusks sticking out your ears was the observation of many. However, they were Apple’s answer to a burgeoning headphone trend: wire-free headphones.
The idea of wireless headphones was met with some speculation when it became a mainstream topic following the release of Apple’s in-ear sticks, but in just three years has become one of most valuable sectors within the wearables industry, with sales standing at around 120 million units as of this year. Apple holds a 50 percent share of those sales, so who’s laughing now, really?
Since the inception of the AirPods, the iconic white buds have undergone a few changes, with the AirPods Pro being released earlier this year. But with Apple products come a wave of accessories, some useful, some not, or, in the case of this latest one, baffling.
That’s because US retailer Nordstrom has started selling a cord that attaches to either end of the AirPods to prevent users from losing their little buds. What’s more, the rather basic product is selling for AU$92 (US$60). Not exactly cheap for a piece of string.
But it begs the question “why has this been made in the first place?.” The amusing thing about the release of the Nordstrom cable is the backlash it has received from the Twitterati, with several users mocking the cable for its redundant nature.
Scared of losing your AirPods? Try this! A cord that holds your AirPods on a strap around your neck just like — wait a minute… https://t.co/TWtI2d5ixv
— Hema Mullur (@HemaMullur) 3 December 2019
They’re selling an AirPod carrying strap which puts AirPods on strings…making headphones.

We’ve officially come full circle.
pic.twitter.com/elvWbhR1Wi
— Yoni Mernick (@OriginalYoni) 2 December 2019
Or is it completely pointless? The whole point of wire-free headphones is that they have no cords or wires. This leaves them susceptible to being separated and lost from one another when they’re not in the case – something even we here at D’Marge Towers have experienced.
We’re confident we’re not alone in that regard, and while it’s easy to take the piss out of a product that could be seen as useless, it’s only been created to solve an embarrassing problem: people losing their AirPods. If you don’t want to lose your headphones, don’t buy a pair without a wire – a point made in reply to one of the product-shaming tweets:
The product only exists because people lose their AirPods. Don’t blame the product, blame the idiots who ‘misplace’ their AirPods. The product doesn’t exist without you.
— Nathan (@artisanpr0) 4 December 2019
All up, the embarrassing truth about 2019’s ‘coolest’ (or at least, as sales show, most popular) new gadget is not that the technology is flawed, but the way we store (read: leave lying around) it is. In other words: this ’embarrassing truth,’ for once, reflects badly on consumers, not the creators.
If we had to pick one issue with the Nordstrom cable though, it would be the price. The company isn’t alone in selling a cable to attach to the AirPods, but it is one charging a hell of a lot of money for one. You can pick up a Spigen cable for example for US$10. But if there’s one thing retailers know when it comes to Apple-related products, is that fanbois will pay top dollar for all manner of iAccesories.
Capitalism at its finest.

When it comes to cooking there are various skills that are simple and some others that are a little more difficult. Chopping might seem like an easy skill, but have you ever tried cutting a few days old tomato with a blunt knife? If you have, you’ll realise how difficult it can be to cut something without the proper equipment. If you haven’t experienced a moment where your knives didn’t cut the mustard (pardon the pun), it’s beyond frustrating as a seemingly simple task is anything but. To mitigate any kitchen disasters, you’re going to need to invest in some quality knives and Material’s three knife set and stand set is just the place to start.
The knives themselves are made from three layers of Japanese stainless steel, so they’re razor-sharp out of the box and can easily be sharpened in the future. The set includes an 8-inch ‘Chefs knife’, a 6-inch serrated knife and a 4-inch paring knife, to cover any cutting situation you might encounter in the kitchen. Additionally, the set includes a wooden stand that can hold all three knives as well as a few more magnetically. Oh and, it looks great.
Priced at $200, it’s pretty reasonable for three knives and a stand especially when you consider it will both help you up your cooking game and look great in your kitchen – it’s an easy investment that will pay dividends for years if not decades to come.

White sneakers and black jeans are two of the most classic pieces in a modern bloke’s wardrobe. Representing the ultimate in versatility, comfort and laid-back cool, they’re essentials that are worn with everything and anything. Wearing them together though? It’s less common than you might think. Despite this, the combination can be a total showstopper if styled correctly.
First and foremost, you should know that white sneakers can indeed be worn with black jeans. They go together incredibly well. But what will make or break your outfit is what you wear on top. Whether it’s a shirt, t-shirt, jacket or even a sweater, there is a right and a wrong answer.
So, ever the guiding source of inspiration, we’ve put together this handy guide, explaining the ultimate way to wear these basic pieces so that they have the maximum effect.
In This Story…
What Shirt to Wear with White Shoes and Black Jeans?

Minimalism is the name of the game when it comes to white shoes and black jeans. Lean into this aesthetic by keeping your ensemble monochrome, layering a slim pair of black jeans with a white button-down Oxford. Style the shirt by rolling back the sleeves and leave it hanging out. Pair this with a chunky pair of white Nike Airforce Ones for a slightly retro take on this look. This is the perfect outfit for brunch, a stroll down to the high-street or even a laid-back afternoon at the pub.
If you can’t help but add a hint of colour to your outfit, think about dabbling in double denim with a blue denim shirt. Layer this over a white tee for a slightly more casual weekend outfit. Focusing on quality pieces from the likes of Acne and Bassike will help prevent this from coming across as sloppy. You can also heighten the relaxed vibe with a pair of white Chuck Taylors.
What Jacket to Wear with White Shoes and Black Jeans?

Nothing beats the classic combination of a white tee, black jeans and a well-fitted denim jacket. Opt for a classic blue wash in a slim style and steer clear of excess details such as rips or dramatic acid washing. Throw the jacket on over a Breton tee or a grey crew neck shirt for a cool but relaxed ensemble.
If denim jackets aren’t your speed, a leather biker jacket is another great option to pair with this ensemble. Stick with a classic style of jacket in a high-quality leather from somewhere like Reiss. This will be something you can wear time and time again and will only get better with wear. Pair it with a well fitted white tee-shirt and a slightly lighter wash of black jeans for a 21st century take on James Dean style.
A bomber is another great option, particularly when worn with distressed black jeans. Keep the bomber simple, opting for a nylon style in black, navy or khaki. This should be layered over a tee or plain white button down and paired with low-top white sneakers.
How to Dress Up White Shoes and Black Jeans?

Whilst white shoes and black jeans might seem like the ultimate casual statement, it doesn’t take much to dress it up for more formal occasions. Perfect for a relaxed cocktail event or a long-lunch, black jeans and a pair of low-top leather sneakers matched with a black linen blazer and a crisp white shirt is an effortless but very chic ensemble. Think about really playing with texture, potentially opting of a blazer that has a waxed finish for a more night-time ready look.
If you’re really wanting to up the ante, why not experiment with some tonal blocking? An all-black outfit – button down shirt, blazer and jeans – paired with white sneakers makes for a bold statement. Keep it simple, steering clear of any superfluous accessories and focusing on crisp, clean lines. Nick Jonas makes a strong case for this look in the image above.
For the more flamboyantly minded, you could also play with a black cropped tuxedo jacket. Perhaps best worn by Olivier Rousteing of Balmain, this style screams luxe and is a fun way to toy with a more formal dress code.
How to Accessorise White Shoes and Black Jeans?

As a general rule, white shoes and black jeans lends itself to being worn as part of a monochrome ensemble. This being the case, it’s advisable to keep accessories to a minimum and really focus on a less is more approach.
For daytime wear, add simple, classic pieces like a New Era baseball cap or a belt from somewhere like Off-White to elevate your outfit. Statement sunglasses and jewellery can also bolster your look, just remember to keep it minimal.
Of an evening, pair it back even further, focusing on a classic timepiece and nothing else. The beauty of this look lies in its simplicity, so own that with high-quality garments that can speak for themselves.
How to Pick the Perfect Pair of White Shoes?

How you plan on wearing a pair of white shoes will ultimately dictate the style that you’re after. And there are a lot of options out there. From $500 styles at Valentino to the more cheap and cheerful Adidas Stan Smiths, the average bloke would be forgiven for being a little overwhelmed. To ease the strain, we’ve broken it down.
For those who are purchasing for the first time, you can’t go past a classic low-top leather style. The ultimate in versatility, these can be dressed up with chinos but will look equally at home with black jeans. Depending on your price range, check out Common Projects or Axel Arigato for well-constructed, high-quality options. If you’re on a bit more of a budget, look at Aquila for a perfectly acceptable alternative.
If you skew further towards the casual end of the spectrum, you can’t go past a white canvas plimsoll. The shoe of summer, it looks sensational paired with looser black jeans and a floppy white tee. Converse or Superga both do great versions of this style.
Finally, for the hype beasts amongst us, the white statement sneaker is a true investment piece and a fail-safe way to level up your black jeans and white shoes combo. Sneakerboy has an enviable range including offerings from the likes of Balenciaga and Gucci.

Footballing legend turned style icon David Beckham is always up to date with the latest fashion trends – no surprise really, as fashion houses the world over all want their clothes to be seen on one of the world’s most famous men.
The ex-Man United, Real Madrid and PSG winger turned up at the Dior x Kim Jones pre-fall 2020 show on Tuesday the 3rd of December in Miami, wearing another stand-out suit from the French company. It’s an evolution of the relaxed, double-breasted suit we saw him sporting just a few months ago, but this time, it’s ever so shiny.
We called out the relaxed-fit suit as being next season’s biggest sartorial trend (last time), and given Dior has once again gone for the slouched style, we’d bet our lunch money that every fashionable gent worth his salt will have at least one relaxed suit in his wardrobe next year (and this week’s outfit only strengthens our suspicions). A quick glance at the collection Dior presented in Miami shows the company is leaning towards a relaxed fit across its entire range, perfect for the summer days.
Beckham has teamed his mirrored suit with the same pair of white sneakers we saw him wearing the last time he wore a suit fit for a whale, effortlessly combining formal splendour with casual streetwear style. Of course, being the pinnacle of cool is nothing new for British cultural icon. His look is topped off (literally) with a slick fade haircut that is certainly a far cry from his long blonde locks of his Manchester United days.

While Becks can be seen rocking this suit right now, it will take a few months for it to be available for the Average Joe, so start making space in your closest.
The Dior x Kim Jones fall 2020 collection sees the English fashion designer join forces with Shawn Stussy, the man behind the Stussy brand of surf, skate and street clothing. A number of other celebs turned out for the event, including Travis Scott, Luka Sabbat, Kim Kardashian, Bella Hadid, and Winnie Harlow.
All of them were impeccably dressed, but our Becks lit up the show in more ways than one.
