As restaurants, cafes and shops get the green light to reopen and experts chirp optimistically about regional travel, one could be forgiven for thinking Australia is getting back to normal.
But the first step of Australia’s National Cabinet’s plan to ease restrictions, unfortunately (perhaps, from a medical point of view, fortunately) didn’t include one thing: the re-opening of pubs and bars.
For those gasping for an icy cold pint, with mates, you will likely have to wait until the most inconvenient (for those prone to random health kicks) month of the year to step into your local pub: July.
Dry July is cancelled this year #pubs

That’s if everything goes well, too (and if you live in NSW, ACT, Victoria or Tasmania).
While The Federal Government says it will be up to the states and territories to decide when the changes come into effect, they will only occur if Australia’s confirmed caseload continues to drop.
For now, as part of stage one, Australians will be allowed to have up to five guests in their home and be in groups of 10 outdoors.
“Today, National Cabinet agreed a three-step plan and a national framework to achieve a COVID-safe economy and society,” Prime Minister Scott Morrison said.

“It is our goal to move through all of these steps to achieve that COVID-safe economy in July of this year.”
Mr Morrison said the liberation would be gradual and we should brace ourselves for more outbreaks along the way.
“In this plan, we walk before we run.”
Libraries, community centres and playgrounds are also included in step one, but must follow certain hygiene rules.
Step two will see groups of 20 allowed in places like gyms, beauty therapists, cinemas and galleries.
Some jurisdictions, however, may allow larger numbers.
Some interstate travel will also be permitted, the government said, again, to be guided by each state and territory.
Step three (the final one), “will see people return to workplaces and gatherings of up to 100 people allowed and pubs to reopen,” the ABC reports.
“National Cabinet will review the progress of each step every three weeks, to see what impact the changes have on coronavirus infection numbers,” (ABC).
“They’re not formal reviews,” Mr Morrison said. I’d describe it more as stock takes … and how we’re going towards our ultimate aspiration of being there in July.”

What happens if there is another outbreak? It depends how major it is, but, for now, the Government says it would turn to an expert health panel about whether to halt any further easing of restrictions.

As reported by the ABC, Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy said there was more certainty around the definition of step one (“baby steps” into unprecedented territory), its success (of lack thereof) would influence what happened in steps two and three.
“Step two, a bit more work to be done and step three, still a lot of discussion to be had before we can define it properly.”
This comes after certain states and territories (notably, the Northern Territory and Western Australia) have already announced plans to lift a number of their policies, which would see their pubs and clubs reopen in the coming weeks.

For those of us in NSW, ACT, Victoria and Tasmania, however, it looks as though this year’s (social) beer drought is set to continue.

Tekashi 6ix9ine, the controversial and outspoken, yet highly successful American rapper, has taken the Internet by storm just this weekend with an Instagram Live video that shattered records.
However despite the video – in which the colour-braided, face-tattooed rapper debuted a new song, alongside a few shoutouts to rivals – breaking the record for the highest viewership of an IG Live video with 2 million people, we here at DMARGE were more focused on the watch, or rather watches, on his wrists.
It’s overly common for rappers to display their wealth through jewellery, watches and cars, but Tekashi took things a step further by wearing no less than four Richard Mille timepieces, two on each wrist. Complementing his coloured braids, the rapper wore models with red, yellow and green straps, alongside a diamond-encrusted model.
HipHopWired reports the outspoken rapper splurged on the new timepieces, along with an assortment of cars and jewellery to celebrate his release. Each to their own, we suppose.
It’s a little tricky to work out the exact models he’s wearing as he’s moving around a bit too much. But we’re pretty sure he’s wearing the following:
- RM11-01 Robert Mancini
- RM010 on Red Strap
- RM010 Titanium on Yellow Strap
- RM51-02 Tourbillion on Diamond Strap
He boasts that the diamond model alone is “One Million”, and could be a custom model, before saying “That’s four, ya’ll ain’t got one. Ya’ll wouldn’t even get one.” You’re looking at at least two million dollars worth of watches, and then there’s the bling around his neck to match.
Tekashi was arrested in 2018 racketeering, weapons and drug charges and sentenced to two years in prison in February 2019 as part of a plea deal which saw him testify against fellow members of the Nine Trey Gangsters gang. He was released early in April 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak which could have affected his asthma, but is required to serve the remainder of his term on house arrest.
We’re pretty confident he won’t mind.

Just as it’s important to find the right running shoes and shorts for your daily workouts, finding the right men’s running shirt is a decision that should be made with serious consideration. Get the wrong fit and you’ll wish your run could end as soon as you begin, or choose the wrong material and you’ll be sweating buckets from minimum effort.
Where you run will also have an effect on the men’s running shirts you invest in. If you choose to run through the city streets, you’re going to want to look as stylish as possible, but if you go off the beaten track, then you’ll definitely want something with a bit more substance.
Men’s Running Shirts FAQs
The best men’s running shirts do NOT flap around when you run in them. It should be a fine balance between well-fitted and slightly loose, allowing for a full range of motion. Nylon and polyester are the most popular fabrics in running wear since they are lightweight, durable, and breathable. They are also stretchy and non-absorbent for ultimate comfort when you run. Another thing to look out for is materials with sweat wicking properties so you don’t feel drenched while running. No. Cotton is not ideal for running as it absorbs moisture well, making you feel hot and damp with sweat. This is the reason why running tops are typically composed of synthetic fibers and not with pure cotton.Should men's running shirts be loose or tight?

Qantas just tossed a lifeline to Australians stuck overseas. The carrier today announced new flights from the UK and the US to Australia. Qantas has also found a way to potentially enable expats to bring their pets.
The new flights will be from Los Angeles and London to Melbourne. This differs from previous repatriation flights, earlier on in the pandemic, which flew from LA to Brisbane.
View this post on Instagram
Brisbane, however, does not have the facilities to quarantine pets, which forced Australians planning to fly home in this time of crisis to leave their pets in the US or else not to return to Australia.
Australia’s border rules state that cats and dogs must arrive directly into Melbourne Airport and be quarantined at Mickleham, near Melbourne.
According to the SBS, “The Australian government has requested owners of pets planning to fly back to Australia on one of the new Melbourne flights to contact Qantas and their chosen pet carriers to check on animal transportation.”
As for the US flights: “Qantas’ new limited Los Angeles to Melbourne flights are scheduled for May 16, 23 and 30 and June 6,” (SBS).
This adds to United Airlines’ flights, which are currently flying daily from San Francisco to Sydney.
The new Qantas London-Melbourne flights will take place on May 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, 29 and June 3 and 5.
This comes in a context where airlines’ international flight schedules have been decimated, and their domestic ones slashed.
While Qantas CEO Alan Joyce is optimistic we will soon see a travel uptick (and a loosening of restrictions) domestically, he remains doubtful international travel will return to normal any time soon.
Qantas’ repatriation efforts also prove how important it is to have an airline with Aussie DNA in the skies.
While Qantas has one of the best PR teams in the business, and – as you would expect – makes the most of its positive actions, the fact remains that having an airline that sells itself as being accountable to Australia is great in a time of crisis.
View this post on Instagram
While repatriation efforts would still exist in a Qantas-free world, one questions whether other carriers would go to the same lengths to help expats’ furry friends get home too.
As the Virgin Australia take-over unfolds, with everyone from China Southern Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Bain Capital, BGH Capital, Wesfarmers and The Macquarie Group tipped to be interested, it’s certainly something to consider.

If you or I were to give up something we were once good at, and then come back to it a fair few years later, chances are there will be a learning curve of sorts to get back to the level we once were. The same can’t be said of our man David Beckham.
He may have retired some seven years ago but ol’ Goldenballs proves he still has the magic touch in his right foot going by a recent Instagram post. Taking to the field at his own Inter Miami CF stadium “a few months back”, David shows us all he can still find the net with pinpoint accuracy from range. And he does so without his signature Adidas Predator boots on as well.
View this post on Instagram
Fair enough, he doesn’t have opposing team players coming at him, or rival fans trying to distract him to affect his concentration, but like that would matter anyway.
He posted the video alongside the caption “Great memories from Miami a few months back Can’t wait to see the team on the pitch when the season gets going again…”
The MLS (Major League Soccer) has, like other football leagues around the world been put on hold during the current pandemic. It was suspended as of March 12th, but it has been reported that Beckham’s club was one of four clubs to return to training in recent days, albeit precautionary. The league is currently suspended until June 8th at the earliest, and MLS Soccer commissioner Dan Garber has said it is in a position to resume as soon as the suspension is lifted.
Several high-profile stars and clubs have commented on the video with the MLS and Beckham’s own Inter Miami CF, perhaps biased comments of goat emojis and claiming it’s “like riding a bicycle”.
Tom Brady has weighed in too urging Beckham to “un-retire”, while several other Instagram users claim he is still “the king”.
David retired from professional football in 2003 after an illustrious career that spanned clubs including Manchester United, Real Marid, Paris St. Germain, A.C. Milan, LA Galaxy…and a brief loan spell at then bottom-division Preston North End. In his active years, he quite rightly became known for his ridiculous ability to score and assist from set-pieces, all thanks to his right foot, which is, without doubt, one of the most valuable to ever grace the beautiful game.
Since his football days have been put behind him we perhaps don’t need to remind you how much a global icon he’s become, as both an ambassador for several charities and as an absolute king when it comes to showing us all how to dress.
Never change Becks.

Swiss watchmaker extraordinaire IWC has just announced one of the unlikeliest collaborations with London-based swim short brand Orlebar Brown and to mark the occasion, both companies have launched new products.
For IWC, that – excitingly for us – means a new watch. Said watch is a new variation of Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph, dubbed Edition “Orlebar Brown”. What does the Edition Orlebar Brown get you? Not only do you get one of the finest timepieces in IWC’s repertoire, but one that’s finished in Orlebar Brown’s distinctive, nautical-themed colour scheme.
To that end, IWC has given the new watch a marine-blue dial to signify the association with water and all things nautical for both the Portugieser and its history and Orlebar Brown’s target audience. The new timepiece rocks the same stainless steel case as its peers but receives a new co-branded side-fastener buckle with white and red colour accents. It comes attached to a blue rubber strap with textile inlay.
Elsewhere it’s business and usual for the Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph Edition, which includes IWC’s in-house manufactured 89361 calibre, complete with 68-hour power reserve.
But there’s more excitement on the horizon, for it’s not just IWC bringing out new goods. Orlebar Brown – which we have to say is one of our favourite swim short brands here at DMARGE – has also announced a new nine-piece “Capsule Collection” of resort wear, designed in collaboration with IWC (hey, it’s good to have fingers in multiple pies, right?). Pieces within the collection include a white towelling blazer; cotton/silk knitted polo and a new pair of photographic swim shorts – comprising a Solaris 55 sailing yacht (another company IWC has recently partnered with) in front of Porto Rotondo in Sardinia – with the company’s signature side fasteners.
IWC’s Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph Edition “Orlebar Brown” will be available from boutique stores in July, with the Capsule Collection launching today, 15th of July.

The current lockdown period we’re all facing has coughed up several new trends and ways of working. But as we’ve reported on already here at DMARGE, it can have a significant effect on our mental health. We’ve already written about the ways you can minimise and prevent your chances, simply by following daily rituals, but what about the less-abled among us who rely on carers?
Some 20 per cent of the population identify as living with a disability, many of which require either round-the-clock care or occasional home visits. In-home carers are, therefore, seen as an essential service, meaning they are still able to visit clients but must adhere to precautions to ensure both they and their clients remain safe. But there are still people out there who haven’t been able to receive care during the crisis, even just for something as simple as having a conversation.
View this post on Instagram
Australian Paralympian Dylan Alcott has been helping to put a stop to this by partnering with Mable, an online community for independent support workers, to contact disabled people all around Australia so that they no longer feel isolated.
Speaking to Honey, Dylan said the service works in a similar way to “online dating” as it matches support workers with individuals who have signed up, based on their specific needs and interests.
In response to the pandemic, Mable has launched a video call feature built directly into its platform to allow carers to contact their clients if they’re not able to visit them at home. It’s this feature that Dylan has used to have virtual face-to-face conversations with Australians to offer his support.
He’s been able to connect with four people so far, comparing quarantine beards, playing board games and just having a general chinwag, but more calls are planned, as he’s pledged his support for at least the next month.
He added that because services such as Mable exist to bring the disabled community together, we should refer to the effects of the pandemic as “physical distancing, rather than social distancing because you can still reach out and connect.”
Speaking of his conversations so far, Dylan said “These sessions have provided me with so much, learning how others are coping with COVID-19 and helping me feel less isolated during this time. It’s awesome to be able to use Mable to share this connection with others and hopefully, they got as much out of it as me.”
“The Mable platform challenges traditional disability support in Australia, making it accessible for all and even more so during this time with the virtual support functionality.”
“I can’t wait to jump into more sessions and meet more of these incredible people over the coming weeks and months.”
The Australian government has put a dedicated plan in place for disabled people across Australia, of which there are more than four million. The plan, which will be updated periodically, “has been developed for people of all ages with a disability, their families, carers, support workers and the disability and health care sectors.”

It’s been a busy few weeks in property. Maurice Terzini sold his Bondi pad. A Clovelly stunner (with living room plunge pool) hit the market. Real estate expert Edward Brown revealed WTF is going on with Australian housing prices. What hasn’t made headlines, though, is how there could now be a short, golden window of opportunity for Australian buyers.
A bona fide, beachside, once in a lifetime opportunity. Your piece of paradise. A titillating tipple. A winner takes all, not-one-to-miss moment. Whatever you want to call it, and whether you like to abuse adjectives as much as us, it’s happening now.
To go beyond us running our mouths, we got in touch with one of the Eastern Suburb’s top real estate agents Gavin Rubinstein.
We put our theory to him.
Fortunately for those of us too ugly to score a Sugar Daddy, Gavin (to some extent) agreed: right now there is a small window of opportunity to juice your dollars for all they’re worth, and score the beachside house of your sueños.
View this post on Instagram
Of course, you’ll need a deposit and your bank on side, like always, but as Gavin told us, “there may be a small window of opportunity for local buyers, at least whilst our borders are largely closed, with less competition from overseas.”
Having said that, “the Australian dollar is a lot weaker than it was 12 months ago” Gavin added, “and this presents opportunities for expats and foreign buyers to potentially save 10-15% purely on the foreign exchange.”
“In addition to this, I feel like more than ever, Australia will be viewed as a ‘safe haven’ particularly for overseas buyers who may fear future pandemics impacting their home nations,” Gavin told us.
“The way Australia has responded to Covid-19 and how it has mitigated loss of life, I feel, will be seen as another positive for foreigners wanting to relocate here in years to come.”
For now though, prices are on their way down (we’re even seeing reports of 300k discounts). On that: NAB chief economist Alan Oster said on Thursday he expected Melbourne house prices to slip 4.8 per cent through 2020 and another 3.6 per cent next year.
View this post on Instagram
Sydney prices, he said, were expected to suffer a similar drop, down 2.9 per cent this year and then 3.6 per cent in 2021.
Additionally, and as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, “falling consumer confidence and a drop in migration will weigh on the two [Sydney and Melbourne] markets.”
As for areas likely to be worst affected, Gavin told us: “The two main aspects for me are supply and the vendor/buyer demographic. The suburbs that will be hardest hit will be those where unemployment rates are highest.”
“There is no question that individuals and families will be impacted by the economic fallout of this pandemic. There will be families who will liquidate property investments to help kids/grandkids,” Gavin added.
“I sense there will be a lot of transactional movement in the property market Sydney wide as people readjust to their financial realities. As a result, I think we’ll see a spike in supply in particular areas/postcodes and this where you’ll find better value as a buyer.”
DMARGE also recently spoke to Edward Brown, director at Australia’s leading real estate provider Belle Property, who said, “there are definitely opportunities in the next six months – and what we’ve already started seeing are opportunistic purchases.”
“If you need to move, move. The housing crisis is only going to be caused if everyone sits back and does nothing. The loans are very cheap. You can go and get interest rates for under 3%. That’s cheap money – you can go and get a million-dollar mortgage and they principle an interest for about $4,000.”
“So your rent and your mortgage on principal interest is about the same, potentially, if you’ve got the deposit to pay it now. Everybody focuses on property in the short term element – but what’s the long term?”
Your dream house awaits.

From backpackers to billionaires, when international travel finally returns, we’re all going to have to get our head around some changes.
While you usually get a health check after your summer of sin, in light of recent circumstances, travellers may now have to seek a “health passport” before embarking on their Old World adventure.
As News.com.au reports, “More and more destinations are flagging the potential introduction of health passports that would ensure tourists are virus-free when border lockdowns lift and travelling resumes.”
“The travel documents would be used in tandem with existing passports to prove tourists and other travellers aren’t bringing the virus with them.”
In Greece, where international flight restrictions have put both its influencer industrial complex and general tourism on ice, authorities are already considering ways to re-ignite its travel industry, “one of the key pillars of the country’s economy.”
View this post on Instagram
According to The Mayor.eu, “Officials have already stated that this year’s summer season will only be three months long – between July and September, and in a best-case scenario, tourists might keep on arriving throughout October and November.”
“Yet the key question for officials not only in Greece but across all of Europe remains how exactly would tourists be allowed entry into other countries without being forced into mandatory quarantine.”
“One of the solutions pitched by the Greek Tourism Ministry is the introduction of a so-called ‘Health Passport’ that would be used as proof that the individual carrying it is not sick with COVID-19,” The Mayor.eu continues.
“The coronavirus test will be performed in the country of origin before citizens are allowed to travel to their chosen destination.”
Greece’s minister of state Giorgos Gerapetritis has announced “[health passport] negotiations are underway” and claimed visitors “will come with some sort of certificate” (The Sun).
View this post on Instagram
Such an approach would require multilateral co-operation. So it’s crucial the rest of Europe gets on board. On that note: things are looking (cautiously) optimistic.
In Sardinia, where the pandemic has wiped out the local tourism industry, authorities are keen to introduce ‘health passports’ in time for summer.
If Sardinia’s proposal were implemented, travellers would have to present their health credentials and have their temperatures checked before entering.
“This way we hope to relaunch our tourism sector in June,” the island’s governor, Christian Solinas, told Arab News.
“Whoever boards a plane or a ferry will have to show (the health passport) along with their boarding pass and their identity document.”
“I am sure that it will work fine: we will preserve health and save our economy at the same time. Now everything has to be done to boost tourism. It is the biggest source of income for Sardinia.”

As Italy generates about 15 per cent of its GDP from tourism, changes of this kind are happening all throughout the country, with Sicily last week offering to subsidize tourists’ airfares and hotel fees.
Other Italian island destinations, such as Capri, Ischia and Panarea, and the southern coastal region of Puglia, are considering a similar “health passport” system too.
View this post on Instagram
Spain’s Balearic Islands, Turkey and Chile are all making similar noises (some, like Chile, floating the idea of even stricter entry requirements). Meanwhile, the European Union is discussing a scheme akin to Australia and New Zealand’s proposed “travel bubble” as we slowly, globally, come out of this crisis.
As for Australia, those in the know (notably, the PM Scott Morrison and Qantas CEO Alan Joyce) are optimistic about a return to domestic travel this year, but doubtful international travel (for pleasure) will be back on the cards any time soon.
RELATED: New Invention Could Change Economy Travel Forever
Even when it does return, as we reported last week, these ‘health passports’ may be just one of many factors which have changed dramatically.
In terms of global institutions, The World Health Organisation has warned against countries against issuing “immunity passports,” because it is not yet clear whether contracting the virus makes people fully immune.
“There is currently no evidence that people who have recovered from COVID-19 and have antibodies are protected from a second infection,” WHO said, adding false confidence carried the risk of another outbreak.

Until then: a virtual tour of Europe will have to stand in for your summer of sand and sangria.
