Who Is Dyson Daniels?
Dyson Daniels is an Australian basketball player who was born in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia on 17th March 2003. He was drafted as the 8th pick in the first round of the 2022 NBA draft and was selected by the New Orleans Pelicans. The 6ft 8in point guard is most well-known for his athleticism and aggressive defence.
Dyson Daniels’ Rise to the NBA

Dyson Daniels began playing basketball at seven years old but also showed talent in the AFL. So much so, that he represented Victoria in several football championships before giving up to focus on basketball.
His first semi-professional gig came when he signed on for his father’s former team, the Bendigo Braves, for a season in 2019 at just 16 years old.
Dyson Daniels made his senior international debut for Australia during the FIBA Asia Cup qualification in February 2021.
He also helped the Victorian team win silver at Australia’s U20 Championships last May.
He had an unusual run to the NBA, turning down several different college programs and the NBL Next Stars program. He instead played for the NBA G League Ignite, a developmental team in the NBA G League, becoming the first Aussie to play for the Ignite.
Daniels’ two-year deal with the Pelicans made him the 10th Australian to be selected in the top 10 picks of the NBA draft. It also made him the 23rd Australian to be drafted into the NBA since 1969, joining the likes of Josh Giddey, Ben Simmons, and Andrew Bogut.
Dyson Daniels Stats
He averaged 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5.1 assists for the Ignite, yet only played 26 G League games before the NBA draft.
Dyson Daniels Salary
While he’s only 19, Dyson is due to earn at least $5m USD ($7.2m AUD) in his first season with the Pelicans, with the chance to earn more in following seasons, which means he’s well and truly on his way to being a millionaire.
Dyson Daniels Family
Dyson comes from an athletic background, with his father Ricky playing college basketball for North Carolina State. Ricky then moved to Australia, where he played for the Bendigo Braves and was voted a two-time South East Australian Basketball League MVP, making such an impact in the league that his number (23) was retired by the team.
The basketball talent obviously runs in the family, with his older brother Kai currently playing college basketball for Regis University and his younger brother Dash named in the Victoria Country U16 team for the upcoming Australian U16 Nationals.

The Henry Jones Art Hotel

Luxury elliptical spas bubble underneath rough-sawn timber trusses. Blackwood-lined boardrooms make way for stately, indulgent suites. Forget what you know about crossroads: at the intersection of history and art lies the Henry Jones Hotel. This creation has breathed new life into Hobart’s oldest waterfront warehouses—as Australia’s first dedicated art hotel. Located in Hunter Street—a formerly industrial precinct—the hotel exudes modern flair, while paying tribute to its working-class origins.
These days the precinct hums with galleries, award-winning restaurants, bars and cafes, all of which the Henry Jones Hotel captures, along with the bustling port with Mount Wellington beyond.
Having stayed here ourselves, we can say this is one of Hobart’s best hotels.
The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel

Don’t let the name fool you: The Old Woolstore is no tired barn. From studio apartments to deluxe spa suites there are options to suit everyone from honeymooning couples and holiday-makers to business travellers. The MACq 01 Hotel is a storytelling accommodation set in the place the Mouheneenner people fished and forged dreams in the Derwent shallows; where Europeans first set foot on Van Diemen’s Land, and where an industry was born amongst Hunter Island’s hustle.
Today, this area is home to MACq 01, a boutique hotel of informal luxury. From the Hunter Street rooms to the Premium Waterfront Suite, each aspect of this hotel harbours an authentic Tasmanian character.
The Islington Hotel

If you’re after the comforts of home away from home, a well-tended garden and stunning views of Mount Wellington, the Islington Hotel is the place to be. Islington is homely and historic.

Entering one of our rooms is like being invited into the beautiful and comfortable sanctuary of an adventurous friend.

Maylands Lodge

Close enough to the city for when you want to explore, but far enough away to breathe easy when you want to escape, Marylands is an urban lodge that will satisfy a diverse range of needs.
The love child of a merchant “son of a convict”, a legendary architect, an iconic department store and The Salvation Army, Maylands’ history is as diverse as it is intriguing. And having opened just a couple of months ago, if you visit soon you might be one of the first to find out why.
Known for their spirit of generosity, the Marylands Lodge is seriously ’boutique,’ which creates a welcome aesthetic contrast with the Heritage property it is set within.
Avalon City Retreat

City slickers on tour with cash to burn and a penchant for Sup’d up penthouses and insane views will love Hobart’s Avalon City Retreat. And this is no stock standard getaway: the Avalon City Retreat is a luxury, modular designed ‘Omnipod’ cantilevered off each end of an 1967 architecturally designed office tower.
So to say it is “spectacular” would be putting it mildly. Other words that spring to mind? Eclectic, deluxe, and classy, hence their decision to install a modest TV (“It isn’t big because we are not bogans… Avalon City Retreat is built for sharing, quiet noise, celebrations, contemplating, dreaming, cuddling and fun).
In terms of food you can either cook for yourself, or if the mood takes you: call Rocky from the Astor Grill, who will deliver your dinner right to the hotel rooftop. Now that’s a dinner to remember…

As it turns out Brad Pitt is regularly mistaken for fellow actor Matt Damon. So, Pitt just fakes Damon’s signature.
You’d think everyone would be able to recognise Brad Pitt; the dude is one of the most famous actors on the planet. He’s starred in some truly iconic films – like Seven, Ocean’s Eleven and Fight Club – and has won multiple awards, including two Oscars.
And yet, apparently, some people regularly bump into Pitt and mistake him for Matt Damon. An old clip of Pitt has resurfaced online and the actor – who’s won People’s Sexiest Man Alive award twice – says people confuse him for Damon all the time.
Pitt also admitted that he doesn’t correct these fans and instead just signs autographs as Damon.
“I’ve actually signed autographs as Matt… They’ll figure it out later.”
Brad Pitt
The short clip has obviously been taken from an interview where Pitt along with Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie were promoting the 2019 film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. And in the same clip, DiCaprio says he also gets mistaken for Damon.
“I get Matt Damon.”
Leonardo DiCaprio
DiCaprio obviously corrects people when they confuse him for Damon though, as he looked shocked (but also amused) when Pitt admitted to faking Damon’s signature; Robbie exclaimed “Really?!”
Just when you think Pitt couldn’t get any cooler, he admits to doing something as hilarious as this… And for those of you who have met Matt Damon and got his signature, maybe double-check that it wasn’t Pitt.

Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the best football players of all time, has just announced a partnership with Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange.
Cristiano Ronaldo has done with Binance what Matt Damon did with Crypto.com. The Portuguese megastar, who currently plays for Manchester United, recently featured in a Binance video posted to LinkedIn.
Binance wrote: “We’re kicking off an exclusive multi-year NFT partnership with football legend Cristiano Ronaldo.”
The crypto exchange platform added: “This is your opportunity to own an iconic piece of sports history and join CR7’s Web3 community.”
“Through this partnership, Binance will launch a global campaign to give Ronaldo’s fans an introduction to the world of Web3, starting with a compelling entry point into the NFT space.”
Binance
“Cristiano Ronaldo and Binance will create a series of NFT collections for sale exclusively on the Binance NFT platform. The first collection will be released later this year and will feature designs created in collaboration with Ronaldo.”
In the video, Cristiano Ronaldo can be heard saying: “I’m delighted to announce my partnership with Binance. Together we are going to change the NFT game, and take football to the next level. And this is just the beginning.”
In the comments, various LinkedIn users expressed their excitement with remarks like “Siuuu,” while others accused him of “bag grabbing.”
The cryptocurrency market remains subdued at present, with a rather mighty fall from grace having occurred over the last 6 months. It appears the exchanges (if not the users) are still making money though – at least enough to sign the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Reuters reports that: “As part of the multi-year agreement, the Portuguese soccer star and Binance will create a series of NFT collections for sale on the company’s platform.” The first collection will be released later this year, according to Binance.
This isn’t the first time a crypto exchange has leant on the world of sport to advertise. Last year Crypto.com inked a $700 million deal to rename the Los Angeles Staples Center (home of The Lakers) the Crypto.com Arena, for instance, and crypto exchange FTX Trading Ltd signed a deal with iconic NFL quarterback Tom Brady, too.
Who knows – despite the massive sell off, perhaps the world of crypto isn’t completely dead yet. Watch this space.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker James Cameron, best known for Titanic and Avatar, is rather critical of the James Bond character and franchise. He thinks Bond is a “scumbag” and the films are “rotten.”
James Cameron is a legend in the filmmaking world, and rightly so. Cameron has been behind some of the best films of all time – for example, he wrote and directed The Terminator, Aliens, Titanic and Avatar.
He also directed the 1994 film True Lies which stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis. If you’re unfamiliar with the film – watch it, it’s brilliant – True Lies follows a secret agent who is happily married to a woman who thinks he’s a dull computer salesman.
And while it’s not as obvious as Austin Powers, True Lies is a slight parody of James Bond. And this aspect of True Lies is what made Cameron want to direct it as he thinks Bond is a “scumbag”. As reported by Cheatsheet, Cameron said:
“The James Bond films are rotten at their core. The guy’s a womanising drunk. He’s a complete scumbag, he really is. It’s [a] male fantasy, ‘I’m married and faithful but I’d really like to be that guy and have a different woman every other night.’”
James Cameron

Cameron went on to say that what he loved about True Lies is that it mocks how unrelatable or “immoral” Bond is.
“If you’re going to do a comedy, you don’t just send up the gadgetry. What you send up is the moral centre or the immoral centre of it. What would it really be like to try and live that fantasy? It ain’t going to work because that’s not who most men really are.”
“That struck me as a hysterical premise. What if James Bond was married and p*ssy-whipped?”
James Cameron
Of course, Cameron is entitled to his opinion but we’ll happily watch a Bond film – especially Casino Royale – with a martini in hand any day.

Pre-workout, like any supplement, is often the subject of debate. So when is it actually safe and recommended to take it?
Pre-workout is a supplement that people can take before their workout (its name isn’t rocket science) to help give them an extra burst of energy. The pre-workout you have may have slightly different ingredients to the pre-workout your friend takes, but generally, they contain a mixture of sugar, caffeine and other energy-boosting stimulants.
But, aside from the potential risks of consuming too much pre-workout, there are potentially times when it’s unnecessary. According to Ron Jones (@bigronjones) a “health and Wellness personal trainer,” with more than 15 years of experience, you shouldn’t take pre-workout before a cardio workout.
Ron says that a friend of his told him he does in fact take pre-workout before his cardio workout. Bemused, Ron says “do you really want to use a stimulant before you intentionally train your cardiovascular system?”
He explains why he’s so confused by the practice of using pre-workout for cardio, adding “I use pre-workout to facilitate a pump. That’s because I’m going to be doing anaerobic activity, which means I’m going to be using my muscles. Aerobic activity is just using my cardiovascular, there’s no need to facilitate additional blood flow for that. Not to mention, I don’t want to have additional caffeine in my system before I intentionally raise my heart rate.”
The video received hundreds of comments, but one sticks out in particular, and Ron even posted a follow-up video quoting it. The user said, “Had a buddy feel like he was going to die after taking pre-workout before a two-mile sprint in the army. Says a lot about that.”
To this, Ron hits home his previous message, “Stop using pre-workouts before your cardio. Pre-workout is designed for anaerobic activity, cardio is aerobic activity. The caffeine involved with pre-workout can actually elevate your blood pressure. You don’t want to intentionally raise your blood pressure before you intentionally elevate your heart rate.”
So, that’s one expert’s view. But what does the science say?
A 2010 study conducted by Smith et al. and published in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition looked at the “effects of a pre-workout supplement containing caffeine, creatine, and amino acids during three weeks of high-intensity exercise on aerobic and anaerobic performance.”

The study ultimately found “an increase in VO2 max, training volume and lean muscle mass in participants who used pre-workout before completing HIIT workouts.” This could therefore suggest that taking pre-workout before cardio workouts isn’t actually as bad as Ron Jones claims.
A separate 2012 study published in the Journal of Nutrition & Metabolism wanted to examine “the effects of the pre-workout supplement Assault on upper and lower body muscular endurance, aerobic and anaerobic capacity, and choice reaction time in recreationally-trained males.”
Participants were split into two groups, one who took a pre-workout supplement before exercise and another who were a placebo group. After completing an initial fitness test to determine a benchmark set of data, the study ultimately found the group who took pre-workout “significantly improved agility choice reaction performance and lower body muscular endurance, while increasing perceived energy and reducing subjective fatigue.”
DMARGE reached out to Advanced Sports Dietician Jess Spendlove to get her take as to whether it’s safe or recommended to take pre-workout before cardio sessions. Jess first says that “the goal and duration of the session really determine if someone should have something before they train.”
“If they are training for performance – to improve their fitness, and the session is 45-60 minutes or more, than yes they should.”
But, while she recommends people take “something” before they train, she goes on to say this doesn’t necessarily need to be a pre-workout supplement.
“Consuming carbohydrates before training is the ideal source, and in doing so, be them high or low GI it will increase blood sugar levels, as that is the body’s natural response to ingesting them. If someone is working at a high intensity and aiming for performance improvements it would actually benefit them to do so.”
“Pre-workouts (in a supplement form) are not necessary, but ingesting pre-workout nutrition before a gym session can be beneficial to help again with the performance in the session. If you are someone looking to gain lean mass I would recommend consuming some carbohydrate and sometimes some protein before the session.”
“Overall intake and distribution is important when it comes to protein but if you are training faster (ie first thing in the am) and it’s been 10-12 hours since your last meal with protein, having something prior might be beneficial – for example fruit & yoghurt.”
The takeaway from all this? The science seems to contradict the claims Ron Jones makes, but going off what Jess says, if you can substitute pre-workout supplements for whole foods instead, then you can still reap the benefits in a more natural way.
As always, as Jess rightly says, “consult with an accredited sports dietitian to determine what you need for your individual goals is best practice.”

From marrying well to investing wisely (to deciding to stop buying pre-workout), Australians are today taking to Reddit to share the best financial decisions they ever made.
Have you ever got to the end of the month, only to look around and think: “where on earth did all my money go?” If so, this right here is an article you might want to read. Though some of the suggestions are tongue in cheek (or should we say ‘ring on finger’), some are quite interesting.
Overnight, a Reddit user posted the following question to Reddit’s r/AusFinance community: “What is the best financial decision you have ever made?” Australian netizens were quick to respond. The answers ranged from sharing how their love lives turned out to be quite profitable, to revealing how certain investments had paid off.
One Reddit user said the key to becoming rich is to wed well. He simply responded: “Marrying my wife” to the question posed. Others said the key was staying married (“only second in importance to ‘staying married to my wife’ another user quipped).
“Yup. And importantly, marrying someone with the same views when it comes to handling money.”
The conversation also delved into, as it always does in Australia, real estate. One Australian finance enthusiast said they were glad they pulled money out of their super to buy a place before retiring. They wrote: “Buying my unit using super just before retiring and paying off all debts. Don’t have much money but regard myself rich.”
Though pulling money out of your super is known as risky, another user expressed their support for this move, writing: “This is the way. Easier to have that security and live off rice and lentils than to have more income but worry about renting as a 90-year-old, IMO.”

Other members of the r/AusFinance community talked about mortgage rates – and how they were glad they fixed them. One wrote: “Used westpac so that I could lock in my interest rate (2.29%) during construction of my property, locked in for 4 years because I just didn’t believe rates were going to stay low. Got insanely lucky. Also stopped buying 300 dollar bags of pre workout.”
Further financial decisions that were looked back on fondly included paying off credit card balance each month without fail, not having a credit card, reading The Barefoot Investor, making a point of “educating myself as much as possible,” getting out of the rental market and quitting gambling.

Another couple of responses were: “Spending within my means and only ever borrowed money to buy a home. Due to this, retired mid 50’s” and “stretched myself to the max to buy our house, and it was a stretch.”
The same user continued: “Nothing else I have done has financially come close to increasing my net worth by as much. Sure I need to live somewhere but later on in life I can downsize and release some of that equity.”
“More importantly than the financial value though.. nothing else I have done in my life can even come remotely close to giving me the same feeling of security and stability as knowing I have secure place to come home to, I can do my own improvements, and not worry about landlords selling on me etc.”
Well, now we know where Australia’s obsession with the property market comes from…

The Swiss are rightfully proud of their watch industry, which is is notoriously insular, exacting and uncompromising. But something Swiss watch brands might not readily admit is that there’s a German brand they couldn’t live without…
Germany is world-renowned for the quality of its manufacturing, especially precision manufacturing. But while Germany is home to a few highly regarded watch brands – A. Lange & Söhne, Glashütte Original and Moritz Grossmann spring to mind – it’s its smaller neighbour Switzerland that’s considered the world leader in watches.
Yet virtually all Swiss watch brands rely on a German company to make their watches: Leica. Famous around the world for their impeccably made, high-end cameras (indeed, Leicas are sometimes called “the Patek Philippe of cameras” – a highly appropriate horological compliment), Leica also produces quality precision optics.
It’s these precision optics that Swiss watchmakers rely on to craft their finest watches. Microscopes, loupes, enlargers, lenses… Without Leica’s top-tier instruments, the Swiss watch industry wouldn’t exist.

I recently had the chance to visit Jaeger-LeCoultre’s manufacture in the famous Vallée de Joux north of Geneva. Jaeger-LeCoultre is often called “the watchmaker’s watchmaker”, and its creations rank among some of the most refined and complex watches on the planet.
RELATED: Why Are Watches So Expensive? I Went To Switzerland To Find Out
The factory tour was fascinating for a multitude of reasons, but something I couldn’t help but notice is how many Leica instruments JLC’s watchmakers use in order to create their impressive watches.
Virtually every part of the watchmaking process and in every part of the manufacture, from the stamping of parts to movement assembly to gem-setting, there were Leica instruments. Just as JLC’s watchmakers were all wearing JLC watches – a vote of confidence in their own products – they all used Leica instruments. This German brand has infiltrated every level of the watchmaking process.
JLC is by no means the only watch brand that relies on Leica. Rolex, too, relies on Leica instruments to produce and test their most famous watches. Indeed, I bet every Swiss watch manufacture would be filled to the brim with Leica products.

Of course, this technical and cultural exchange cuts both ways. Just as the Swiss would be lost without German precision optics, Germany’s most prized industry would be lost without Swiss watchmaking.
Cars are to Germany what watches are to Switzerland, and many of Germany’s top car marques rely on Swiss watchmakers for precision timing. For example, Mercedes-Benz has long utilised IWC Schaffhausen clocks in their high-end AMG and Maybach models, and their Formula 1 team counts IWC as a major sponsor and timing partner.

All makes sense to me – I like my watch Swiss, my car German and my wine French. Santé. (Or should that be Prost?)

Giancarlo Esposito, the actor who played Gustavo Fring in Breaking Bad and its spinoff Better Call Saul, has revealed there might be another Breaking Bad spinoff in the works…
Breaking Bad is easily one of the best television shows of all time. Watching Walter White turn from a meek suburban chemistry teacher to a badass drug manufacturer was simply *chef’s kiss*.
The Emmy Award-winning series was so popular and critically acclaimed, that it spawned an ‘epilogue’ film, El Camino, and a prequel spinoff series, Better Call Saul. The latter of which is set to conclude in just over a month, on August 15th.
Fans and critics alike love Better Call Saul – especially as it gave us a deeper look at beloved Breaking Bad characters Saul Goodman, Mike Ehrmantraut and Gus Fring – and are deeply saddened it’s soon coming to an end.
But there may be another Breaking Bad spinoff on the way. Giancarlo Esposito, who played Gus Fring in both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul (both of which you can watch on Stan in Australia), revealed that he thinks a show that explores Gus’ origin story could still be on the cards.
During an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the actor recalled a conversation he had with Vince Gilligan, the creator of both Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul, and said:
“Vince Gilligan said to me, ‘It is not over until it’s over.’ But what does that mean? Is that a clue? And for me, I think it may be a clue because I take all of that as an actor, you take that really personally like, ‘there could be something else.’”
Giancarlo Esposito
Esposito went on to discuss how the latest season of Better Call Saul – which fixed a major Breaking Bad plot hole – allowed him to show audiences a more vulnerable side of his character and has really enjoyed the experience. So much so, that the actor would love to star in another Breaking Bad spinoff.
“In my brain, there is another show and that show is called, The Rise of Gus.”
Giancarlo Esposito
The Rise of Gus, to be frank, sounds awesome; so let’s all hope that Gilligan gives Esposito (and us) the pleasure of a Breaking Bad spinoff that focuses on Gus Fring.
