Conor McGregor’s known for three things: being one of the most accomplished mixed martial artists alive today, trash talk, and lavish spending. With an estimated net worth of over $120 million, the self-proclaimed ‘face of the fight game’ and whiskey-brewing entrepreneur is hardly short on scratch. From mind-blowing shopping trips in Dubai to jetski adventures in Ireland, the 32-year-old brawler loves to splash his cash.Turns out his lavish taste also permeates his training routine. A few hours ago, ‘The Notorious’ shared a photo on his Instagram Story showing off the contents of his gym bag – and it’s just as outrageous as you might expect.Instead of regular workout shoes, he has a pair of $1,900 Louis Vuitton V.N.R. trainers. A Fitbit? Forget it. Try a $70,000 Rolex Day-Date (ref. 128348RBR). Hilariously, he even has a bottle of Italian sparkling water instead of your usual water bottle or Gatorade – and of course, he’s carrying it all around in a ‘McGregor Fast’ duffle bag, advertising his signature training program of the same name.

McGregor’s courted controversy over the last few days after he’s made gloating comments in response to news his rival, Russian MMA champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, may be retiring from the sport, MMA Mania reports.
“Happy retirement kid, smell ya later. Never forget who came in the game and made ye. Straight from my big Irish balls. Remember folks, if you hate cutting weight so much, all you have to do is move up a division.”
Say what you really feel, why don’t you.

Venice is known for its canals, floods, architecture, gondolas and cruise ships. What it’s not known for is dolphins. In fact, dolphins are so rare that when a fake video of them swimming in Venice emerged last year, it sent the internet loopy. But this Monday, two dolphins really did stop by Venice, various media (from CNN Travel to Traveller) have reported.
Two dolphins were spotted swimming in the water of a Venice canal. The usually dark waters of the city’s canals have become cleaner because of reduced boat traffic pic.twitter.com/io589O8OCq
— Reuters (@Reuters) March 23, 2021
They swam up the iconic Grand Canal, before gliding over to Giudecca island, (presumably having a gander at the Renaissance era churches on their way), before returning to the Adriatic Sea.They were stuck for a time, though the Cetacean strandings Emergency Response Team, from the nearby University of Padua, helped them navigate their way out of the maze.Their visit was not seen in person by many – the city is currently in lockdown as Italy battles a third wave of Covid-19.Traveller reports, “The two dolphins were photographed at the entrance to the Grand Canal, just off a promontory called Punta della Dogana.”
“It is thought they were drawn into the lagoon by shoals of fish, which are thriving after a year of lockdown because of the absence of tourism and a dramatic decline in boat traffic.”
DMARGE understands the dolphins in the footage are striped dolphins – a rare sighting in these parts. They usually, according to the experts, rarely come near the coast – especially typically polluted places like Venice. The last time a striped dolphin was seen in the Venice lagoon was reportedly four years ago. Some Twitter users claim it is even rarer – calling it a once in a lifetime experience.Others suggested the absence of international tourism – particularly, in Venice’s case, cruise ships – could be the reason for the city regaining its magic.
It is nice to see what it takes when there are no more cruise ships.

As DMARGE reported last year, 2020 had one silver lining (among many gut punches) for Venice – it helped it realise the true nature of its over tourism problem.RELATED: Venice Discovers True Nature Of Its Over Tourism ProblemMany tourist-dependant destinations around the globe, including Amsterdam, Croatia, Thailand and Australia are all taking this moment to reconsider how to bounce back stronger from the pandemic (in what has been dubbed a ‘Pheonix moment‘), making for a better experience for both visitors and locals alike.Perhaps we shouldn’t be too eager to Rush Travel Back after all? Though we don’t want to go overboard with travel shaming or become a world of hermit kingdoms, it’s certainly worth taking our time with our return to travel, fixing existing problems, and doing it right.

Don’t throw in the towel just yet.We often speak to great length here at DMARGE about the workouts you need to try, or the nutrition hacks you need to incorporate into your diet if you want to achieve a muscular rig, the likes of which would make any fitness influencer on Instagram jealous with ad-supported rage. However, the main message you need to ensure you adopt is that results won’t happen overnight and that consistency is key. One man who is living proof that as long as you’re willing to put the time in, you’ll achieve washboard abs is Lenny Kravitz. So keep that gym towel at your shoulder, not on the ground…

The Are You Gonna Go My Way rocker – who even we admit isn’t the first person to come to mind when talking about fitness and insane figures – recently posted an image to his Instagram account that shows him with an unbelievable figure and one that certainly belies his 56 years of age.The American rockstar is just one of the latest stars to hover around and above the 50-year age mark – joining the likes of The Rock, Mark Wahlberg and Terry Crews – proving you really can fight the signs of ageing and gravity if you commit to a strict diet and fitness regime.Kravitz decided to jet off to the Bahamas – his ancestral home – during the Covid pandemic, and it’s clear that even though he may not be afforded the same sort of gym facilities as he would have access to in the US, he’s still been able to keep his body in ultra-ripped shape. As the Miami Herald reports, Kravitz tagged Fruits N’ Roots in his Instagram image, which they reposted with the hashtag #36HourFast, implying Lenny has adopted a fasting diet, before eating fruit. As we’ve covered before, intermittent fasting can be beneficial for those looking to lose weight, as well as those looking to put on muscle.Centr, the fitness programme designed by Chris Hemsworth says, “If your goal is to build muscle, sticking with IF can be tricky. Muscle growth requires an excess of calories and a good amount of healthy protein.”However, it adds the 16:8 diet – an example of an IF diet – is being adopted by muscle builders. “Also known as ‘Leangains’, in 16:8, you do all your daily eating (your standard daily caloric intake) within an eight-hour window, then fast for the remaining 16 hours.”However, a study looking into the effect of IF and muscle building found that it can be more beneficial for those wanting to look lean, as it predominantly promoted fat loss, while muscle mass remained the same.RELATED: Intermittent Fasting Revelation Good News For Building Muscle, Study FindsCombine this with a headstrong mentality to commit to working out and a tough-but-effective strength and cardio program, such as Mark Wahlberg’s insane daily routine, and it soon becomes apparent how Lenny looks as good as he does. And don’t worry, you might not need to wait 20 or 30 years to achieve a similar physique. You can start to see progress in as little as 2 weeks. Imagine what you could achieve in a year.

We’re three months into 2021 and international travel almost seems like a long-forgotten dream. But we’re a plucky bunch: overseas holidays may have been off the cars but we’ve quickly replaced vacations with ‘staycations’, with Aussies turning to regional trips to fill that travel void. It’s also meant that we’ve been buying cars in record numbers: the used car market is on fire, and dealerships have been short on new stock.Campervans (or vans one can convert into a campervan) have seen a huge amount of speculation, but as these months have worn on, another type of car has started to emerge in popularity: 4x4s. Which makes sense – campervans can only go so far off the beaten track. Four-wheel-drive SUVs and utes are also the perfect vehicles to tow boats, campers and trailers. But there’s one car in particular that’s seeing its prices go through the roof: the humble Toyota Land Cruiser. The iconic SUV – long one of the most popular cars Down Under and a tough-as-nails off-roader – has suddenly become remarkably unaffordable, with both new, barely-new and used models all experiencing extreme speculation.
View this post on Instagram
It makes sense, really. Just as the Toyota Corolla is the default answer for anyone wanting a car and the Toyota HiLux is the best-selling ute in the country, the Toyota Land Cruiser is an obvious choice for anyone wanting a tough 4×4. Perennially popular in regional Australia, it seems more city slickers are now waking up to their virtues. They’re legendarily reliable and parts can be found for them anywhere – not that you’re likely to need a bunch. There’s plenty of support for modifications, too. On the other end of the spectrum, older models such as the classic FJ ooze charm and cost less than comparable vintage 4x4s – although that might be changing.RELATED: ‘Affordable’ Toyota SUVs Fast Becoming Perfect Alternative To Skyrocketing Defender PricesIt’s not just the demand for road trip rigs that’s causing the spike in prices either.“Land Cruiser prices have also soared due to Australians scrambling to secure what could be the last available examples of the diesel V8-powered four-wheel drive,” The Sydney Morning Herald relates:
“In production since 2007, the current model LandCruiser 200 Series is due to be replaced by an all-new model by the end of the year and speculation is rife that the LandCruiser’s powerful diesel V8 engine will be replaced by a smaller, more efficient V6 engine.”
“Those rumours have contributed to the sharp price rise for both near-new and older LandCruiser models, which has also driven up the price of V6 models.”RELATED: Australia’s Most Iconic Engine Is An Endangered Species

Forget the six million years we’ve been evolving – the real development in human history came when we realised we could order wine online.Far from the sterile experience you might have in mind, direct-to-consumer wine is arguably the purest way to get your vino – something DMARGE recently discovered on a wine trail trip to South Australia. On that (fruity) note: a growing trend among Australian wine enthusiasts is to go on reconnaissance trips (some call them holidays) to places like the Barossa Valley, pickle their tongues with grape juice, jot down their favourites, and return with enough cellar door subscriptions to put their annual offerings to Netflix, Stan and Spotify all to shame.Direct-to-consumer wine sales grew by 7% in value in 2019-2020, outperforming other channels in Australia, Beverage Daily reports.St Hugo chief winemaker Peter Munro recently told DMARGE this growth has continued into 2020-2021, due to the extraordinary events that have unfolded across the globe.
“Ecomm has accelerated across all retail categories due to COVID and wine is no exception. This is something we expect to continue as consumers enjoy the convenience and choice.”
“COVID has seen a growth in wine consumption frequency overall with the shift to at-home occasions. It’s also seen a shift to more people supporting local brands and seeking well-known brands they know and trust,” Mr Munro added.
“And whilst imported wine features more than it used to (in the form of an increase in Champagne and French Rose consumption), Australian Shiraz, Cabernet and Chardonnay remain the top varietals for Australian fine wine drinkers.”

This DR3 x St Hugo collaboration comprises a long-term partnership that will see Ricciardo and St Hugo release new wines each year. The first iteration of DR3 x St Hugo saw Ricciardo work closely with St Hugo chief winemaker, Peter Munro. The result? Drops of outstanding quality.“We also knew ecomm was the best option for this collaboration,” Mr Munro told DMARGE. “Daniel has a significant social following and has built a successful ecomm business for his RIC3 merch. We wanted to use the same business model knowing it resonates with his fans.”Ricciardo said the release is intended to showcase Australian plonk through a one-of-a-kind lens: “I grew up around wine, it’s in my blood. Along with my Italian heritage and my family’s love of sharing wine, my Dad is a bit of a hobby winemaker and I have been surrounded by the passion for wine since I was young.”
“I’m quite a curious kid, I always love learning things, and wine is a true craft, and I want to get in and get my hands dirty and make really spectacular wine that provides a unique perspective on what fine wine is.”
“To be able to do this with St Hugo’s Winemaker, Peter Munro, one of Australia’s best winemakers, is a real privilege. It also guarantees the wines will taste great!”

The DR3 x St Hugo collaboration began with Ricciardo’s passion for wine and culminated in Munro introducing him to a series of St Hugo wines, explaining not just the science and craft that goes into creating fine wine, but also the need for using your intuition at every stage of the winemaking process. This is where Ricciardo comes in: “I’m approaching the partnership in the same way I approach aspects of my racing,” he said.“I may not be the engineer who physically finesses the car, but I am the one who is driving it, and I have an instinct for what feels right. I share that with the team so the car can be optimised. With winemaking, I’ll take a similar approach, and in this instance, Peter is the engineer. Pete and I work well together and we want to challenge ourselves to go out of our comfort zones to produce something particularly special.”

The first release of the DR3 x St Hugo series will include a Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 and Barossa Shiraz 2014.The 2015 Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon flaunts some of the signature characteristics of the fruit grown in the Coonawarra region including blackcurrant, dark violets, graphite, slate and oak char. The 2014 Barossa Shiraz features a generous and full palate, with dark fruit supported by very fine chalky tannins that persist on the tongue.“Daniel has an insightful way of communicating his appreciation of wine that will only get better overtime as he hones his winemaking skills. The collaboration is a blend of the love of fine wines and thedesire to capture Daniel’s character into the distinctive St Hugo style that represents ‘passion, powerand precision’, creating wine that will continue to excite and energise the Australian wine-drinkingaudience. We’re really setting the bar high for what is to come,” said Mr Munro. Each bottle of the limited edition first release of DR3 x St Hugo will be individually numbered andpresented in a premium gift box. They are currently available to buy online at www.sthugo.com, and ship from the end of March.

There’s something fascinating about watch companies making things other than wristwatches – and it’s more common than you might think.
Bremont just revealed their very first rally timer, designed to be fitted into a Jaguar E-Type, Panerai makes nautical instruments, Richard Mille makes a mechanical fountain pen and Rolex used to make clutches. Plus, most luxury watch brands make desk clocks of some description… Can’t afford an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore? A desk clock’s 1/10th of the price.
The aforementioned compasses and clocks might be novel, but this Cartier piece from the 1940s might just be the most unique timepiece we’ve ever seen.
What appears to be an otherwise normal 14ct yellow gold ring is actually a watch: pop the top cover open and you’re greeted with a cute little watch face under a bevelled piece of glass. The tiny watch is powered by an equally titchy Jaeger-LeCoultre movement, which features a novel winding mechanism affixed to the underside of the ring.
It’s an elegant and fascinating piece that speaks to Cartier’s unique relationship with horology and is emblematic of how our taste in watches has changed so much over time.
Founded in Paris in 1847, Cartier has long been regarded as one of the most prestigious and pre-eminent jewellery manufacturers in the world. The brand has always been a unique figure in the luxury watch world: jewellers or non-watch brands’ luxury watch offerings are sometimes looked down upon by serious watch collectors (Louis Vuitton might make great suitcases but their watches are more akin to fashion items than serious timepieces, for example).
Cartier, however, has always stood out as making particularly fine timepieces that are more than worthy rivals for the pieces produced by watch-only manufacturers. Part of this has to do with their indelible impact on the world of watchmaking: Cartier brought the world’s very first wristwatch to market, the iconic Santos, in 1911. That’s a boast that’s hard to beat.
RELATED: The Hottest Cartier Watches To Buy In 2021
This ring watch also speaks to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s history as “the watchmaker’s watchmaker”. Even today, JLC remains one of only a handful of watchmakers that produce their movements solely in-house, and the brand has long supplied movements to brands like Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and indeed Cartier – who still utilises JLC movements to this day.
Ring watches like this Cartier used to be more common in the 20th century but have since fallen out of style. As rare as they are, you can still pick them up for around 5000 USD from vintage watch dealers. It’s a shame that watch companies or jewellers don’t make ring watches any more – although Sydney-based designer AHW Studio makes some spectacular jewellery out of old watch movements if you’re looking to get in on the action.
Ironically, smart rings like the Oura (which tracks vital signs, like a Fitbit) or the McLEAR (which allows contactless payments like a credit card) are becoming increasingly popular in 2021… We might see Cartier return to making rings with hidden tech in them in the near future.

Paris is known as the city of amour. But tragic things have happened there too. From Marie Antoinette’s gruesome end to tourists inhaling entire baguettes before lunch, atrocities still happen to this very day. A yang to the city’s ying, if you will.RELATED: The ‘Cringey’ Social Media Mistake Every Tourist Makes In ParisSpeaking of polar opposites, one Paris tale, which went viral in January, recently gave the internet a “thank god it wasn’t me” moment.
Happy 4 year anniversary to when I flew to Edinburgh to surprise Finlay and he flew to Paris to surprise me and this is why we don’t do surprises anymore pic.twitter.com/ZBJ4jCNZ4i
— Salma Saade (@SalmaSaade) January 12, 2021
A Scottish man, Finlay McAfee, flew to Paris, from Edinburgh, in January 2017. But it didn’t turn out as romantic as he hoped.Rather than surprising his girlfriend at the airport, who was on her way back to Edinburgh from Beirut, with a 12-hour stopover in Paris, it turned out to be quite an expensive error.McAfee, a 23-year-old student at Edinburgh University at the time, told CNN Travel that his plan was to surprise his girlfriend, the then 21-year-old Salma Saade, at Charles de Gaulle airport. But, “Little did McAfee know that just as he boarded his Edinburgh to Paris flight, Saade was already landing in the Scottish capital,” (CNN Travel).
“Turns out, she’d switched to an earlier flight, with the same goal: to surprise her partner and be reunited a day earlier.”
The couple had actually been transiting through Edinburgh Airport at the same time. The tale drew the sympathy of the internet, with various Twitter users showing solidarity – and pointing out it could have been a lot worse.“I don’t mind this kind of surprise,” one Twitter user wrote. “The one I got was that the person I went to surprise, surprised me by lavishing attention meant for me on some other person.”
“Possibly a case of mistaken identity. That’s what I told myself as I cried all the way back home.”
All’s well that ends well, however, and that appears to be the case with Saade and McAfee, who, CNN Travel reports, “are still together, now living in London where McAfee is a software engineer and Saade works for the Scottish National Party.”
“We really missed each other.”
The monumental mistake (now heart-warming icebreaker) was discovered when Saade got home from the airport and texted McAfee’s roommate, to see if McAfee was in, to come around to his place and surprise him.
“Lmao he just flew to Paris.”
McAfee then spent a morose day in Paris on his own, then headed back to Scotland.
“Tom, who travelled 3,816 miles from Perrysburg, visited her in Europe to pop the question.”
She said yes.Flying across the world to surprise your partner has also become quite a popular stunt on Youtube (or it had, anyway, before the arrival of The Bat Kiss). In this age of coronavirus the loved up duos of the world are having to improvise to even greater lengths to keep the spark alive and to make new connections, with New Yorkers asking each other out by drone and interpretive dance, and Australians broadening their horizons in their search for love.Given the new bureaucratic and logistical challenges of travelling, which have come as a result of the current pandemic, we doubt we’ll hear any more tales like this any time soon (experts are predicting a return to pre-Covid levels of travel in 2024).Strange times indeed.

If America’s National Basketball Association is the most stylish professional sports league in the world, then Russell Westbrook is the most stylish sportsman in the world. The 32-year-old Washington Wizards point guard is widely regarded as the most fashion-forward athlete in the NBA. From confident, punk-inspired summer styles to experimental isolation looks, the man’s sartorial range is impressive – and while some of his fashion exploits are a bit too cutting-edge for some of his fans, no-one can deny that they’re exciting.Thankfully, his latest outfit seems to be resonating with even the strongest fashion skeptics. Stepping out before the Wizards’ game against the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday, Russ was spotted in all-black with a cape-like overcoat, with only a pop of colour from the Richard Mille watch on his wrist breaking up the otherwise ninja-esque look. But the thing that really brings the outfit together? The Dr. Martens 1460 Harness boots on his feet. It’s these stereotypically hipster kicks we’d like to focus on – because even if you don’t have Westbrook’s style confidence (or NBA money), you should definitely have a pair of these boots in your wardrobe.
View this post on Instagram
Founded in 1960 in Northamptonshire, England, Dr. Martens boots (or just ‘Docs’) are perennially fashionable and ubiquitous; a real counter-culture icon that have been worn by everyone from skinheads and ska fans in the 80s to Bushwick hipsters and Greenwich Village goths in the 2010s.While the firm makes a wide variety of different styles – from oxfords and Chelsea boots to sandals and brothel creepers – the classic eight-eyelet high-top 1460 boot remains their biggest seller. Westbrook’s boots are a derivation of that famous, original style, just with a biker-style leather harness over the top of its laces. While we’re not suggesting every man rush out and buy a pair of these harness-endowed ones specifically – they’re a very particular look – normal 1460s are a particularly versatile and hardy pair of shoes worth adding to your rotation, regardless of how much almond milk you like to drink or Camus you like to read.RELATED: Best Boots For Men Who Want To Kick Butt & Look Stylish TooYou don’t have to wear them like Russ, either. Smooth, black 1460s look great paired with some blue denim jeans, slim black trousers or even overalls (if you want to go ‘full workwear’).
View this post on Instagram
Polished up, they can look quite dapper – but they’re also one of those shoes that arguably look better a bit worn in or beaten up, like white Nike Air Force 1s, Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars or R.M. Williams boots.RELATED: Trailblazing Australian Weatherman Takes ‘R.M. Williams & A Suit’ To New HeightsThat said, there’s a lot of love for Westbrook’s unique application of the classic boots. Choice comments on social media include “fit of the season”, “I love the fact he comes to games dressed like a villain” and, tellingly, “dude usually wears some weird mix but I’m feeling this.”Hilariously, one fan bemoaned “good lord, do you know how much leather is needed to make Dr. Martens in [this] dudes’ size?!”Sadly, Westbrook’s winning style wasn’t enough to prevent the Wizards going down against the Nets 113-106. The Wizards’ next game is against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden later tonight NYC time / tomorrow morning Australian time.

We’re forever being bombarded with the ‘next big thing’ in diet and fitness. For years the Atkins diet was the one to follow, before newcomers such as the keto and carnivore diets came along, claiming their methods were best for dropping body fat while still consuming valuable nutrients.
The primary source of fad diets today is through social media, with celebrities, ‘health experts’ and even influencers spruiking the benefits (sometimes as an advert in return for freebies or financial reward). However, the news is still a huge content source for many, and because a certain diet, or various side effects of consuming certain foods is talked about by ‘professionals’ in fancy white lab coats, we’re supposed to instantly react to every word they say.
Arguing that shouldn’t be the case in American nutritionist Max Lugavere, who recently took to Instagram to remind us we should always take ‘new’ or ‘isolated’ studies with a grain of salt and a fat, f*ck off steak.
View this post on Instagram
“Headlines about nutrition science can often feel like they are giving you whiplash, but science and science reporting isn’t some infallible arbiter of black and white truth,” he captions the post.
“It’s a slow, careful process of investigation. And nutrition is complicated!”
“That’s why you should never change your diet after reading a headline somewhere.”
“Scientifically literate people (which should be all of us) look at new findings sceptically and in the context of the broader body of evidence. And ultimately, there are still massive gaps in our understanding of human nutrition.”
Ultimately, Max says we should pay closer attention to ourselves than what we read in the newsfeed.
“That’s why I often defer to common sense and evolutionary logic and say to learn to listen to your body!”
“To say that a commonly consumed and minimally processed whole food, like a certain dark leafy green or a piece of red meat or an egg is bad for me without additional context is an extraordinary claim that would require extraordinary evidence, and that rarely if ever exists for individual food items.”
You only need to look to The Rock as proof that having cheat days and eating high sugar content foods when you’re on a strict meal plan (and when you lift a metric shit-tonne of weights) can still provide benefits.
But that would have a radically different effect on a sedentary desk worker who exercises once a week…
Highlighting Lugavere’s point perfectly is Australian satirical news publication The Betoota Advocate. In a coincidental turn of events, The Advocate recently published a piece relating to whether red wine is healthy for us or not.
View this post on Instagram
Red wine, along with the likes of red meat and eggs, has been a constant source of debate as to whether it provides any health benefits or not. It’s often been claimed a glass of the red grape juice can reduce our risk of heart disease and dementia, however as with any alcohol, drinking too much can have its downsides. These include an increased risk of depression, weight gain and liver disease. Ultimately, drink in moderation and you should be fine.
Honing back in on Max’s point, as long as you listen to your body and the reaction it does or doesn’t have to eating and drinking foods that the TV claims to be bad for you, in the context of your genes and lifestyle, you’ll be able to sleep easy at night.
