To take advantage of Brisbane’s (usually) incredible weather, you’ll want to remain outside. And what better way to spend that time outside than by playing golf. If you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out but aim to reach the top of the ranks, then you’ll want to pay the green fees at any of Brisbane’s golf courses. But if you simply want to practice your swing, or you just fancy trying out something different with some mates, driving ranges are hard to beat. You’ll want to look into how many bays each driving range so that you can be sure you’ll be able to secure a spot, and also if they offer night-time club swinging thanks to the inclusion of floodlit bays. What you can be guaranteed of with any of these driving ranges near you in Brisbane is an improvement to your swing. You’ll be hitting 300 yarders in no time.

Like every country, Australia has more cultural clichés stuck to it than a sweaty Akubra has flies sitting on it in summer. We’ve busted a few this year. Last month a ‘humble’ image smashed the stereotype Sydney has no culture. In May we busted the idea Europe’s drinking culture is inherently more sophisticated than Australia’s.Last week we discovered Australian celebrities are not as behind the times when it comes to fashion as you’d think, but rather (in some cases) subtle style leaders. This week a humorous quote, spoken somewhat in jest, from host of Traveller’s Flight of Fancy podcast Ben Groundwater, sums up – in DMARGE’s opinion – New South Wellians’ attitude to the rest of Australia quite well.

“If there is any difference in people from NSW it’s that there are no chips on shoulder here… we don’t look to other parts of Australia with anything of a grudge. I grew up in Queensland and everyone thinks of NSW…. [like], ‘Oh, they think they’re so good,’ and Melbourne has this rivalry with Sydney which I’m not sure is reciprocated.”RELATED: Ultra Popular ‘Bondi Icebergs’ Hashtag Reveals Little Known Australian Obsession“People in the West think people in the East don’t really think about them, people in Tasmania think the same thing and NSW sort of… I don’t think there’s any sort of rivarly that we really cling to like that.”Living our best lives, so to speak…That’s some refreshing food for thought amid a backdrop of Bondi – Byron – Bali triangle shaming (some of it admittedly deserved), and Eastern Suburbs initiatives like this one making the entirety of Australasia (in DMARGE’s scientific judgement) shake its head with disbelief. The comment came amid much discussion over the “things that will surprise you about New South Wales.”If you’re interested in checking out Groundwater and guests explaining why NSW is one of the world’s premier tourist destinations (despite Australians not typically thinking of it as a holiday spot, usually preferring to jet off overseas), check out the podcast here.

We’re constantly being bombarded with sex advice. Whether it’s singles looking to fix their ‘dry spell’ or couples wishing to reignite the flame in their years-long commitment, there’s always, it seems, room for improvement.Monthly international publication Marie Claire is a goldmine for women with less-than-fulfilling sex lives. From talking about how to get over a break up one day to recommending a bunch of sex toys the next, sometimes its articles are really worth reading.Case in point: referencing a one-night stand that occurred on a spontaneous trip to Paris, author Daisy Buchanan (which appears to be a Great Gatsby inspired pseudonym) relates some sage sex advice that we can all learn a thing or two from. After a break-up back home, Daisy wanted to get away from her current life with a short break in the City of Love to see a friend. There she met Sebastian, the male love interest in this story. To cut a long story short, she found herself in a hotel room with Sebastian and had great sex.“All I remember is his mouth on mine in a taxi, then in a hotel room – and suddenly I felt myself withering under the lights, conscious of my pale body, my bad bra, my lack of preparedness. ‘Don’t be shy! You’re gorgeous,’ he said, unbuttoning my shirt. ‘I’m not shy!’ I protested, and in that moment my anxiety dissolved. I stopped trying to float out of my body to witness how I was being seen. I focused on feelings.”Daisy then compared this to a future – crappy – hook-up some five years later with an older guy in LA. The reason this one sucked? The dude was his own head, and trying to pretend he was someone he wasn’t, rather than focussed on his partner, and being in the moment.
“I realised I was a woman watching a man watching himself. You can’t have sex with someone who thinks you’re a mirror – especially when they will never be satisfied by their own reflection, or even convinced by it.”
LA in a nutshell? That’s a topic for another day.“Hollywood had made a B-list performer out of him, and… he couldn’t manage pillow talk as he wasn’t interested in words that he couldn’t sell the movie rights to,” Daisy wrote. “It’s a cliché to go to LA and complain that everything is artificial, but our connection was as two dimensional as a plywood spaceship or a polystyrene moon.”
“I was part of the problem. I’d allowed myself to be dazzled by the man Andy thought he was and hoped to absorb some of his status. [In comparison] I’m not even sure what Sebastian [from Paris] did for a living, but the sex had been amazing because he made me feel seen, and his tenderness and generosity gave me the space to look straight back.”
For Daisy, it felt like Andy was simply looking to live up to his own expectations as a lover, instead of understanding and listening to her needs, something high-profile escort Samantha X considers to be one of her top tips for better sex.Learn more about love and dating below.

Buying and selling second-hand clothes in Australia has never been easier.Aside from the old op-shop stalwarts like Vinnies, the Salvation Army or Red Cross shops, the rise of fashionable ‘vintage stores’ in metropolitan Australia has fuelled a new wave of sustainable shopping in the Land Down Under, with rare and cool garms curated for your convenience. However, they can be incredibly pricy ($50 for a ringer tee? Tell ’em they’re dreaming). Thankfully, there’s a whole bevy of online clothes marketplaces such as Depop, Etsy, GOAT and Grailed if you’re looking for a style refresh (or you’re looking to get slim down your wardrobe).Of course, you can try your luck with the big general online classifieds, like Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree. But if you’re really desperate, you can check out eBay, the biggest of them all. But be warned, what you might find may shock you. Case in point: these questionable Nike athletic shorts some Melburnian is hawking for less than a tenner.

Sylvester Stallone, a.k.a. ‘The Italian Stallion’, is one of the most famous action movie stars of all time.
From Rocky to Rambo to Barney Ross in The Expendables, he’s an unparalleled icon of film. He’s also quite the watch collector, with Carl F. Bucherer, IWC Schaffhausen and Rolex pieces among his treasure trove. He also boasts his own signature Richard Mille model, the RM 25-01.
But the one brand he loves more than any other is Panerai, who owe much of their modern success to Sly’s influence. The story goes that while in Italy filming Daylight in 1996 he accidentally wandered into a Panerai boutique, and immediately fell in love with their large, masculine watches. The rest, as they say, is history, and Stallone has purchased dozens of watches from the Florentine watchmaker over the years – giving many away as gifts. Must be nice.
Ahead of acclaimed auction house Phillips’ ‘Racing Pulse‘ watch auction on the 12th of December in New York, Stallone sat down with Panerai to discuss the Panerai Luminor (ref. 5218-201/A) he’s consigned as part of the auction. In the short clip, he also has a bit of a dig at fellow action star Arnold Schwarzenegger, who he accuses of mimicking his taste in timepieces.

Of course, if you know anything about the two actors, then you’ll know it’s all just banter. While the two did have an intense rivalry during the 80s, when they were the two biggest action movie stars in the world, Stallone and Schwarzenegger are now great friends.
Indeed, Stallone gifted Schwarzenegger his first Panerai – a gold-plated prototype model produced before the company was purchased by Vendôme Group (which is now named Richemont, and also owns other prestigious watch brands including A. Lange & Söhne, Cartier, Jaeger-LeCoultre and Vacheron Constantin).
Stallone’s Panerai (which comes with its original box and straps, plus by a hand-written note from the man himself) isn’t the only famous watch included in this Racing Pulse auction.
A Heuer Monaco gifted by Steve McQueen to his personal mechanic Haig Alltounian in 1970 is also up for grabs, as is Paul Newman’s personal ‘Big Red’ Rolex Daytona. Not only were these three watches made famous by these celebrities, but these are literally the watches that did it. Hard to beat that level of provenance…
UPDATE: No big surprise but these three watches all fetched a pretty penny at auction. Stallone’s Panerai sold for an unprecedented 214,200 USD after less than 5 minutes of bidding – but that’s nothing in comparison to the prices the other two went for. McQueen’s Heuer sold for 2,208,000 USD and Newman’s Rolex went for a whopping 5,475,000 USD.

Collecting fine wine, like collecting watches or art, is both a pleasure and an opportunity. Investing in something tangible and enjoyable like a fine bottle of Cabernet means you can have your wine and drink it too.
But the world of wine can seem quite impenetrable for a beginner, and even seasoned wine appreciators need to make sure they’re on top of their game. What’s the best way to store my wine? When should I drink a particular vintage? What should I be adding to my collection?
To take the guesswork out of creating the perfect wine cellar, South Australian fine wine brand St Hugo has launched the St Hugo Cellaring Concierge, an innovative and highly personalised new service offering guidance and expert advice for wine appreciators looking to take the next step in their wine collection.
“If you’ve ever wondered which wines were made for cellaring, what happens to wine during the ageing process, or how you can set up a cellar at home, I can help with that,” says Tim Redman, St Hugo’s newly appointed Cellaring Concierge. Access to Redman’s expert guidance is a real point of difference for consumers and demonstrates St Hugo’s innovative heritage – from the vineyard and beyond.
“Wine preferences are a very personal thing, so everyone’s ideal wine collection will be different. I hope to give people the confidence to select wines that they like and grow their collection with careful ageing,” Redman relates.
Access to the Cellaring Concierge will be granted to those who make a purchase from the St Hugo Fine and Rare Collection, the brand’s prestigious collection of back vintage wines. Following your first purchase, Redman will reach out to set up a private consultation to establish your wine preferences and answer any questions that you may have, followed by ongoing support via email as your wine collection begins to take shape.
Having a wine expert on call sounds pretty nifty, but it’s not just die-hard oenophiles that St Hugo is looking after. As part of the new service, St Hugo has launched a free Guide to Cellaring, covering frequently asked questions around cellaring and wine collecting, such as storage tips, a guide to decanting and ideas on how best to curate a personal collection.
For those who want the ultimate key to wine collecting success, St Hugo are also offering their new ‘Fine and Rare Experience’, the luxury back vintage wine tasting experience par excellence.
Available either at the Home of St Hugo in the beautiful Barossa Valley, or via video conference, the Fine and Rare Experience is offered exclusively to new and existing Wine Club members – a luxury service priced at AUD $3,000. Hosted by Chief Winemaker Peter Munro and Cellaring Concierge Tim Redman, guests will undertake a specialised wine tasting to determine their personal taste preferences when it comes to aged wines and styles, learning more about the ageing process, cellaring and St Hugo’s history in winemaking.
Based on this consultation, a personalised cellaring plan will be created to ensure a collection is developed to suit their preferred tastes. It’s the perfect bespoke option for someone who’s serious about crafting the perfect cellar. You don’t want to spend all that time, money and emotional energy curating a wine collection only to pop a bottle open in twelve year’s time and find yourself wanting more.
Not only does the Fine and Rare Experience give you the insight and skills needed to craft a winning wine collection, but all guests also have the opportunity to take home a case of the St Hugo Fine and Rare Collection back vintage wines, as well as a case of current vintage wines, with the option to cellar these at The Home of St Hugo. Following this, the Cellaring Concierge will provide quarterly reports on the conditions of the wine, advising ongoing cellaring potential and drinkability at each stage. If you’d rather take your vino back home, the Cellaring Concierge will be on-call with advice to ensure the wines age well in optimal conditions.
These initiatives from St Hugo represent spectacular opportunities for anyone interested in wine. It’s made the value proposition of a bottle of one of their delightful drops even stronger – it’s the perfect gift for the discerning dad this Father’s Day.
You can find the fantastic St Hugo Fine and Rare Collection here, as well as St Hugo’s Guide to Cellaring here.

Finding cool classic cars on a budget is a real challenge, especially right now when used car prices are unbelievably high (largely thanks to The Bat Kiss). For every shitbox, fifth-gen Honda Civic or ‘bogan’ VL Commodore that went from being hard to even give away to an in-demand investment opportunity, there’s plenty of fast-depreciating ‘modern classics’ that are anything but. How do you find something that’s going to keep you smiling years down the track? Two men who know how to pick them are Blair “Moog” Joscelyne and Martin “Marty” Mulholland, the geniuses behind leading Australian YouTube channel Mighty Car Mods. Marty and Moog, who boast over 3.4 million subscribers on YouTube, have spent the best part of the last two decades finding and doing up old cars, and have a god-given knack for finding diamonds in the rough.Indeed, they’re so good at it that whether or not the cars they work on are considered classics before they bring them in, they’re definitely considered classics once they’re done with them – the ‘Mighty Car Mods effect’ fuelling used car prices like Warren Buffet’s endorsement affects a stock’s performance, but even more turbocharged.DMARGE had the chance to pick the boy’s brains about how their approach to finding investment-worthy whips, who explained that it’s very much a passion-driven process.
“The market goes crazy with some stuff being in fashion and expensive or cheap and no one wants them, but regardless of that there is a list as long as our arm of cars we’re keen to get into and modify and try… there’s so much good stuff out there.”
Their take? Old turbocharged and/or all-wheel drive (AWD) cars are only going to continue becoming hot property, due to the simple fact that very few brands are making them these days.
“I wish manufacturers would make more turbo and all-wheel drive stuff. They grip, they stop, they handle and you can add power. Front and rear-wheel drive is fun in its own way but turbo AWD stuff is where it’s at.”
They’ve certainly put their money where their mouths are on this note. Many of their most famous project cars are either turbocharged, AWD (or both): think the Nissan Pulsar GTiR, Daihatsu Mira TR-XX, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX, Ford Focus RS, and of course ‘Supergramps’ the Subaru Liberty wagon…They also have a penchant for rear-wheel-drive cars, another layout that’s becoming increasingly uncommon on Australian roads. Two notable examples include their Datsun 240Z and most recently, their BMW E30 coupé they overhauled to celebrate the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
View this post on Instagram
“Probably the strangest turn we’ve seen lately is that cars we’d consider to be not that special are fetching crazy money and being considered investments rather than tools for a fun time… it’s just the way things go when there’s lots of demand and not much supply for 1997 Hyundai Excels,” Marty and Moog joke.
That’s certainly true of the E30 they’ve most recently put their spanners to. The E30 is a great example of a car that was widely ignored up until relatively recently, as people have rediscovered its performance potential and gained a new-found appreciation for its very 80s boxy shape (not to mention high-profile celebrity endorsements from the likes of Ronnie Fieg and Tyler, the Creator among others). That’s the other big pointer the boys have – 80s cars, beyond cars from other eras, are where the best finds are to be found.“The 80s certainly was an interesting time for cars,” they relate.“Japan was making some really weird, wild and wonderful stuff, European manufacturers were jumping ahead in leaps and bounds with the quality of the stuff they were coming up with, all while dealing with tightening emissions laws and the fuel crisis and no end of other issues that we forget about these days nearly 40 years later.”While some DMARGE readers might find the prospect of 80s or even 90s cars being considered classics, the numbers don’t lie: it’s cars from those eras that are seeing the most speculation.Earlier this year, we spoke exclusively with Marty from The Motor Tailor, a Sydney-based enterprise that specialises in restoring and dealing in classic cars, who says that it’s “bedroom wall poster” cars that are the ones becoming the new classics, with “people in their thirties or forties… now looking for their dream cars from their teens, now that they have a bit of money. For example, the R32 Skyline.”RELATED: Motoring Experts Share How To Pick The ‘Classic Cars’ Of The FutureIt’s the same approach Mighty Car Mods takes to picking their next project cars. “In many ways, we’re ticking off bucket list cars. Things we’ve driven in the past or wanted to experience,” they say. That emotional factor is so important, and influenced why they picked the E30 for their collaboration with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
“This [game] being set during the Cold War meant we straight away thought 80s and European. Some Russian cars were initial ideas also but there’s so few of them here and it takes quite a while to customise them to the point where they can be fast AND reliable. The E30 platform we ended up going with is really popular in the car scene which means there’s lots of aftermarket support and its possible to make something really fast and really fun that’s still within the theme and ideas of the game.”
“In games where you can mod cars, our favourite kind of thing is to get the worst nuggety piece of junk the game offers you then just make it off its head with turbos and nitrous and all the gear to go and chop more expensive stuff, so I guess that’s a lot like real life.”
A fitting way to sum up the pursuit of classic cars – finding automotive nuggets, and turning them into gold nuggets.

With an illustrious, aviation-orientated history dating back to 1940, the IWC Schaffhausen Pilot’s Watch has proven to be a vital tool for pilots to quickly and easily read the time during flights.
In the decades since, IWC has continued to innovate within the pilot’s watch space, consistently marking its unique stamp and cementing itself as one of the leading Swiss luxury watch manufacturers.
IWC’s latest release pays homage to an exclusive Pilot’s Watch model launched in 2018 – the Chronograph Edition “Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor” – that is only available for pilots who graduate from the Navy Fighter Weapons School, otherwise known as TOPGUN.
The new addition, the publicly available Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “SFTI”, is a limited edition of 1,500 pieces that not only allows the wider watch community to celebrate the achievements of those graduating pilots but reiterates the continued dedication IWC pays to class-leading craftsmanship.
Like other TOP GUN Edition IWC watches, the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “SFTI” features a case made from black zirconium oxide ceramic, but is further enhanced with the use of Ceratanium®. Ceratanium® is a newly-developed material from IWC that exhibits the lightness and durability of titanium and the hardness of ceramic and one that reaffirms IWC as a revolutionary watch manufacturer.
This innovative, proprietary material is applied to the pushers and caseback, to not only make the watch practically invincible but to provide it with a stealth-like matte black appearance that is jaw-droppingly gorgeous.
Subtle red accents add to the allure of this IWC TOP GUN. The ancestral model upon which it is based featured pops of red, but this reinterpretation goes further, with colour applied to the pushers, small-seconds hand and the tail of the chronograph hand, which is fashioned to resemble a Navy fighter jet.
The engine at the heart of this IWC Pilot’s Watch is the 69380 calibre. This in-house manufactured movement allows for three chronograph sub-dials, a day and date display and a power reserve of 46 hours. It also benefits from an iron inner-casing to help better shield it from magnetic interference and extreme forces placed upon it during high-speed flight – which in turn makes it more than capable of withstanding daily wear.
It’s a perfectly executed package and one that pays faithful homage to the technical achievements and skills of the pilots it takes inspiration from and one that makes an ideal addition to any well-rounded watch collection.

The 28-year-old waterman from Maui also recently released a documentary series called Life of Kai, which offers a never before seen look into Lenny’s mindset, goals and challenges over the course of a big wave season.DMARGE recently asked Lenny a few questions about how he trains for the intense scenarios he often finds himself in. His answers might surprise you. Rather than training specifically for wipeouts, Lenny told us the most useful fitness tip he’s ever been given is, “When surfing big waves, train to make the wave, don’t train to survive the wipe out.”“When one strives to make every wave, the level of fitness naturally follows,” Lenny explained. “My level of fitness is so high because my goals are at the highest level. I also believe in changing up my workouts so that I can keep my body adapting to change.”Lenny also told us what it feels like to be on the precipice of a mountain like wave at Nazaré: “Surfing the moving mountains of Nazaré, Jaws and Mavericks, offers a feeling like nothing I have ever felt. It’s a combination of fear, excitement, anticipation and the desire for more of the same, once the ride is done.”
“While I was making my hold down video holding on to my GoPro, I was really happy that I was getting the footage of giant walls of white water. It gave me hope as I was constantly beaten by wave after wave. I am stoked to be able to share this with others. I am very happy that my level of fitness allows me to be able to video under the circumstances.”
Lenny shared more about this experience (and the recent Nazaré ‘Century Swell’) on this week’s Late Drop podcast. Speaking to host (and fellow big wave surfer Jamie Mitchell) Lenny said, “Backside [surfing with your back to the wave] out there you can’t really tell where you’re going. There’s no wall like a traditional wave, it’s just a huge pyramid.”“Nazaré… it [seems it] doesn’t ever lose its speed. It just seems like it just goes faster and faster and faster – almost as if when it breaks it finally lets go of that energy and… that whitewater… you can’t even stand up against it. If it taps you it’s game over.”
View this post on Instagram
“My biggest wave that day [see: above] was a right and it was still kind of that mush burger [type wave] because it was barely breaking on Big Mama [the peak furthest out the back] but I can remember once that whitewater touched me it just vaporised me. At the end I was like almost in the channel but it just vaporised me.”
“There was no fighting it like some other big waves where that energy kind of shoots out then relaxes then shoots out again. It was just like getting run over. All my training I thought I did I thought was going to pay off in the summer didn’t help the way I thought it might have when I got hit.”
“Eventually when I went left when I had my GoPro, my thoughts were to get a couple of shots of what it might be like to surf out here… I tried to ride that wave as safely as possible. If you watch the land angle, I wasn’t taking any risks by going super deep, I was like: ‘I have a pole in my hand and… I’ll just get a couple of shots then I’ll get rid of the pole and go really deep and focus on making it.’ But the wave just sometimes peels outwards like that and sometimes you can take off on the shoulder and it still will get you.”
View this post on Instagram
Suffice to say: he ended up getting pounded, and the rest is internet history. Lenny also revealed to DMARGE that whether surfing big waves or small waves, he often uses his Tag Heuer Aquaracer to help him get his timing right.“The biggest waves of any swell come on a regular basis, called Sets,” Lenny explained. “Prior to paddling out or getting towed in, I study the timing of the sets that bring in the biggest waves. My TAG Heuer Aquaracer allows me to keep accurate time so that I can position myself in the lineup to catch the biggest waves on every set. I have looked at my watch while underwater although it is very hard to see since the wipe outs are so violent.”RELATED: Big Wave Surfer Mark Mathews Shares How To Build True CourageLenny then spoke to DMARGE about his relationship with TAG Heuer. Lenny said, “It’s a real honor to be an ambassador for TAG Heuer. The level of excellence that TAG strives for is in line with how I want to be as an athlete and as a human being. I live my life striving to be the very best that I can be. This means making sure that I have all of my equipment including my watch prepared, ready and tested so that when the Century Swell comes, I am ready.”
