A Personal Trainer's Secret To Getting Ripped This Silly Season
A Personal Trainer's Secret To Getting Ripped This Silly Season

We’re all starting to feel it and even the fat man in red is starting to worry.

Our multi-coloured schedules start to blur as five meetings a day blend into after-hours festive drinks before a weekend full of events roll in to destroy your ability to think clearly. And now repeat that process for the next five weeks.

Silly Season Antics

Easy there, chimney

They don’t call it the silly season for nothing and if we’re not careful it’s likely you could end up spending Jesus’ birthday recovering from alcohol poisoning, getting sick, exhausted or just trying to shake those extra couple of kilograms that have scored a free ride on those hips.

It is when things get hectic and complicated that it becomes valuable to take things back to basics and ask ourselves what’s important.

If being seen at every event possible is the most important thing in December then so be it.

However, if you’re trying to balance getting that beach bod ready with an increased work schedule then deciding which events to go to and how much you are going to drink for the week – as well as booking in rest time – exercise, planning and preparing food needs to take precedence over that extra glass of rosé.

Rest & Exercise Is Vital

Give the gift of lift

Work events, weddings, afternoons by the beach drinking with mates are all part of this wonderful time we call the silly season.

It is likely that we’ll feel pressured to go to events that we don’t necessarily want, nor need to go to. Saying no to events that don’t add value to you is a must at this period if you are to come into Christmas with some level of sanity and health.

Decide which ones matter and which don’t and make space for priorities such as rest and exercise.

As active humans we need rest. It is essential that somewhere in your week you are finding time to unwind and recharge.

If your weekend is being booked up then it is likely that the Monday morning alarm is met with exhaustion and you’re already behind at the week’s start line.

Say no, book in down time and understand the value of recharging in achieving your other priorities like exercise.

What kind of exercises? We’ve got you covered. See our comprehensive guide to getting bigger, faster here.

Set Start Of Week Goals

Back in line, soldier

Everyone’s goal should be to start the week with exercise. Mentally setting up the week to be one of performance and health means feeling refreshed at the start of the week.

Setting a drink limit for the weekend means feeling fresh on Sunday and being able to prepare your week’s schedule to one that reflects your goals.

Sunday evening food preparation is key to this.

Spending Sunday afternoon and evening resting and then preparing your week of food will mean you’re not getting to Tuesday night shattered from not eating enough.

What To Eat During The Silly Season

Macro your way to health

If we are thinking strategically about your food during this time of stress it’s even more paramount that we’re eating nutrient dense foods and giving yourself the energy when it’s needed.

The Macro Bowl (see below) is a simple recipe that can be adjusted to fit any time of day.

It can be eaten with a soft boiled egg and piece of toast for breakfast, as a vegetarian option for lunch or with slow cooked lamb for dinner.

Nutrient dense dishes like this will ensure your body is getting enough nutrients, vitamins and minerals in this time of intensity and indulgence.

Aerion AS2 Is The World's First Supersonic Business Jet

The days of the supersonic jet are once again upon us, but not the way you know it.

Aeronautical company Aerion and aerospace defence firm Lockheed Martin have teamed up to build the world’s first supersonic business jet named the AS2.

The pair will work together on the roll out of the plane’s final stages which includes engineering, certification and production to make this one of the most anticipated toys for bonafide ballers with an insatiable hunger for speed.

Orlando Carvalho who is the Executive Vice President of Lockheed Martin aeronautics said that, “we are excited to work with Aerion on their development of the next-generation, efficient supersonic jet that will potentially serve as a platform for pioneering future supersonic aircraft.”

The arrival of the AS2 will deliver flight performance and travel times never before seen since the demise of the iconic Concorde passenger jet.

Step Inside Sweden’s Astonishing Ice Hotel For Winter 2018
Step Inside Sweden’s Astonishing Ice Hotel For Winter 2018

If you’re going to build a hotel made entirely from ice then there’s no better place to pull off such a feat than northern Sweden.

The amazing art display which meets luxury accommodation has been running since 1989 and features a dazzling display of sculptures integrated across 35 art deluxe rooms. With new interior pieces carved out every winter, this year sees a massive mountain gorilla, a freaky looking ‘Queen of the North’ statue and a space room joining the freeze.

The Ice Hotel officially opened its doors on December the 15th and comprises of an ice bar, ice chapel and ice gallery alongside the suites. Naturally, those who are keen to experience this cool display of Mother Nature need to do so within the three months as it will melt away and become part of the Torne River.

This year’s Ice Hotel commissioned the work of 36 artists from around the world with pieces extending into an underground mine which shows off elements of crystal clear ice alongside a jungle of monstera-plants and a landscape inspired by a refugee’s journey across the mediterranean sea.

Unique Retreats: Luxe Glass Igloos Under The Northern Lights
Unique Retreats: Luxe Glass Igloos Under The Northern Lights

For years, ice hotels were the pinnacle of winter travel accommodations, but for today’s aesthetics-conscious adventurers, the hottest trend in cold weather lodging is luxury glass igloos.

Finland has led the charge. The futuristic Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort went viral a couple of years ago. In its wake, there are now more then 20 holiday resorts in Finnish Lapland that provide glass-roofed access to the Aurora Borealis. The latest to join their ranks, open just this month in Rovaniemi’s Santa Claus Village, is Snowman World Glass Resort.

This may be the most luxe take on the genre yet. Snowman World Glass Resort’s stand-alone apartments are charmingly designed in the Scandinavian style, with modern architecture and furnishings we expect to see in plenty of social media feeds come 2018. Each cabin includes a living area, a small kitchen, a bedroom upstairs, and floor-to-ceiling glass offering panoramic views of the snowy scenery and the Northern Lights.

Their best features are the private terraces, which may not seem like the ideal hang spot in the middle of the arctic winter… but that’s only because you haven’t heard that each one boasts a private hot tub and an ensuite sauna.

Prices for the glass apartments start at €496/night. The fee includes wifi, as well as all-day entrance tickets to Snowman Ice World and breakfast in the resort’s Restaurant Ensilumi. Other activities at the resort include ice skating, an ice restaurant, ice sculptures, and an ice bar for guests who need a warming-up from the inside out.

Joel Edgerton & Will Smith Embrace That 70s Style At The Bright Premier
Joel Edgerton & Will Smith Embrace That 70s Style At The Bright Premier

Whilst the film itself is about an Orc cop who teams up with a human cop in an alternate universe, the red carpet was all about the cool 70s vibe for the two lead actors.

In one corner we have Will Smith who went for fifty shades of brown across a classic ensemble of a leather jacket worn over a turtle neck, brown trousers and brown capped shoes. It’s a casual and slick approach that Smith has taken here and it works a treat – even in 2017.

Joel Edgerton plays at the other end of the spectrum by making use of a more classic 70s look which pairs a brown checked double breasted suit over a black turtle neck. The shoes are the standout pieces on Edgerton with highly polished marsala capped shoes.

Paired up together, the whole ensemble is reminiscent of the duo of Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe who really took the 70s style to another level for 2016’s The Nice Guys.

Who did it best? We’ll let you guys decide that. In the mean time check out the trailer for Bright below.

Porsche's Oldest 911 Has Just Been Restored…And She's A Bloody Ripper
Porsche's Oldest 911 Has Just Been Restored…And She's A Bloody Ripper

It took three years worth of old school restoration work for the Porsche Museum to finally deem one particular sports car worthy of a debut.

As it stands today, this 1964 Porsche 911 (901 No. 57) is the oldest vehicle that the Stuttgart automaker currently holds in its inventory. The red coupé rolled off the production floor in October of that year and has survived, albeit barely, after almost five decades of being hidden in a barn.

What makes this vehicle truly special is the fact that it was developed as the successor to the 356 and given the designation of 901. However, just a few weeks after starting production in the autumn of 1964, the coupe had to be renamed due to a trademark dispute. It was from this day that all 901 models would bear the 911 nameplate.

Given that the car had not previously been restored, it gave the present day Porsche engineers and craftsman a chance to restore the car to its purest authentic form from the body work to the engine, transmission, electrics and interior.

Specialists even followed the guideline that parts and fragments had to be retained where possible as opposed to replacing them – a major reason why it took so long to bring this highly historically significant sports car back to life.

Watch the video below then check out the fastest Porsche 911 in history.

Here's What It Looks Like Inside An Israeli Bitcoin Miner
Here's What It Looks Like Inside An Israeli Bitcoin Miner

We’re not going to bore you guys by trying to decipher all of the hype behind the current Bitcoin craze (you can read that here). What we will do though is highlight the vast array of technology required to become a bonafide bitcoin miner.

Rows of machines called bitcoin miners form a distributed timestamp server as a peer-to-peer network which stores and deals with a staggering amount of transactions per second. The process itself is energy-intensive and accounts for up 90% of the operating costs for bitcoin miners.

According to an energy report from last year, a crytocurrency data centre in China which primarily looks after bitcoin mining will draw up to 135 megawatts of power to keep the computers running. It’s still an increasingly difficult task though with more transactions happening daily and a higher demand for hardware speed.

No one can tell you what the Matrix is, but the video above is just a small example of where your highly lucrative and imaginary currency is kept.

What To Gift The Traveller Who Has Everything: The Beach of the Month Club
What To Gift The Traveller Who Has Everything: The Beach of the Month Club

The holidays are rapidly approaching, leaving many of us scrambling to secure last-minute presents for the remaining names on our lists. You’ll be damned if you gift another impersonal leather accessory or a pair of socks.

For the frequent globetrotter in your life, CheapCaribbean.com has curated what may well be the year’s most epic travel experience just in time for the giving season: the Beach of the Month Club.

Lucky recipients of the package will spend 2018 checking 12 islands off their bucket lists, one every second weekend of the month starting in February. The destinations include Grenada, Aruba, Barbados, and Bermuda, and though the specific location of each trip is a surprise, members are guaranteed a 4-5 star resort for 3 or 4 nights at every stop.

Round-trip airfare and accommodations are included in the price of the package and… well, that’s where we have good news and bad news.

The good news: all travel arrangements are made by the Beach of the Month Club, meaning zero hassle or stress for members who will never have to lift a finger unless it’s to drink a pina colada.

The bad news: that 5-star treatment doesn’t come cheap. In fact, it will set you back a blood-chilling US$19,999 per person.

Extravagant though that seems, your money goes to more than lounging in sugary sand and sipping the aforementioned tropical drinks. The Caribbean is still recovering from the colossal devastation of this year’s hurricane season, which left many areas without water or power, and damaged a number of restaurants, resorts, and other businesses.

“As one of the most tourism-reliant regions in the world, now more than ever is the time to visit the Caribbean,” says CheapCaribbean’s Senior Product Manager, Dan Marmontello. “While many are under the impression that the entirety of the Caribbean is closed following the recent hurricanes, we’ve found that the majority of islands are not only open for business but have suffered no negative impact from the hurricanes this season. Most of the islands remain great options for 2018 travel.”

The region is eager to welcome guests in 2018, and your tourism dollars will go a long way to helping paradise get back on its feet again. If you’re keen to help, have been struggling to spend the spare $20k burning a hole in your pocket, and want to be remembered as your squad’s greatest gift giver, check out the Beach of the Month Club here.

We won’t judge if you gift it to yourself.

Some Crazy Chinese Millionaire Just Bought Four F1 Cars With Cryptocurrency
Some Crazy Chinese Millionaire Just Bought Four F1 Cars With Cryptocurrency

Well it didn’t take long for the cryptocurrency craze to enter the world of exotic cars and now it’s time for Bitcoin’s competitor, Litecoin, to shine.

There’s only room for one

There’s been reports that a Chinese millionaire has just purchased four rare F1 cars from the U.K’s Heritage F1 dealership, a business which specialises in being “Europe’s largest supplier of F1 Cars to the private market”.

According to the news which broke via Bitcon.com, the final bill equated to US$5.3 million and included the 2011 Sauber Ferrari C30 (pictured above). Whilst considered a backmarker in the sport, the car still managed to take fifth place in the Monaco Grand Prix during its season with Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez behind the wheel.

Whilst the other cars acquired by the Chinese buyer remain a mystery, what can be confirmed is that they are all in race-ready condition. All that’s probably required is a dedicated pit crew and team of engineers and mechanics to ensure the cars last beyond a single race distance. Alternatively, the buyer could just store it in a warehouse in the hopes that the cars’ values appreciate.

London art dealer Eleesa Dadiani was the person who brokered this world-first deal. Her own art gallery allows purveyors of fine art to purchase pieces using an array of cryptocurrencies including bitcoin, ethereum, litecoin, ripple, and dash.

“We are hugely excited to be conducting the sale of these exquisite machines in cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency is not just about ‘getting rich’ – it is about facilitating trade and investment in a more transparent, decentralised way,” Dadiani said.

The founder of Heritage F1, Mike O’Connor, also supported the cryptocurrency movement. “The sale of this breath-taking collection of Formula One cars, in cryptocurrency, will set a new precedent and open up a whole new international market to us. There is increasing demand for the purchase of luxury assets in cryptocurrency, and we are confident that this sale, in partnership with Dadiani Syndicate, is just the first of many to come.”

The only issue now is dealing with cryptocurrency robbers who recently stole $77 million from a Slovenian bitcoin mining company.
