If you’re a regular of this site then it’s likely you would have heard of a little online menswear retailer known as MR PORTER. Well that online retailer is about to become the most dominant player in the e-commerce marketplace thanks to a new takeover bid from Swiss-based conglomerate, Richemont – the luxury goods holding company which carries big ticket names like Burberry, IWC, Cartier and a host of other iconic brands in its portfolio.

The news broke overnight in Geneva with Richemont offering a staggering €2.7 billion, roughly AU$4.1 billion, to take full control of the Yoox Net-a-Porter group (MR PORTER’s parent company). Whilst the lucrative offer still needs to be approved by YNAP shareholders, the company’s chief executive Federico Marchetti has already expressed his support for the deal.
This investment also brings to light the overall value of the YNAP business, pitching it at around the €5 billion mark (AU$7.6 billion).
What does this mean for the average online shopper after sweet threads?
Greater accessibility to designer brands, a vast improvement in the range and the reinforcement of “unparalleled services and content for today’s highly discerning consumers”.
More specifically, “Richemont explained that the rationale for the investment is to build on YNAP’s solid track record of growth,” said Marchetti. “Richemont aims to provide additional resources that further strengthen and accelerate YNAP’s long-term leadership in online luxury. This means investing even more in product, technology, logistics, people and marketing.”
Johann Rupert who is the chairman of Richemont also echoed similar sentiments.
“We are very pleased with the results achieved by Yoox Net-a-Porter Group’s management team, led by Mr Federico Marchetti, and we intend to support them going forward to execute their strategy and further accelerate the growth of the business.”
Whilst Richemont has long been an early investor in the Net-a-Porter business with a minority stake in 2002, the latest bid will bring it full circle to form the world’s largest and most powerful fashion e-tailer to date. Meanwhile Richemont has stated that it will continue to operate YNAP as a separate company.

Approaching your 40s and crossing over to the dark side middle age can certainly be a wake up call for some, especially when it comes to health and fitness. This is where a lot of people start to question themselves, their lives, their health and begin taking stock of their lifestyles; stuff like how much we are sitting at work each day, to how much exercise we are really getting. It’s also the decade where weight is harder to keep off, hangovers become insufferable and people are just juggling way more responsibilities from careers, to kids, ageing parents, sick friends and more.In our 40s, not only do we have to train smarter and eat better, but we also need to manage our stress levels, as stress causes inflammation which may in turn cause you to struggle with your health regardless of how much exercise and good eating you are doing.Small changes add up over time to achieve big results. When it comes down to it, it’s all about a nutrition-dense diet, a consistent training routine and sleep. Here’s how to get ripped in your 40s and stay that way.
Nutrition
Stay Stocked
It’s important to have your fridge and pantry stocked with healthy food, so when the hunger hits, you are prepared. If you can’t get out of the house, many grocery stores allow you to shop online at little cost.Alternatively, use a healthy meal delivery company. There are so many companies who deliver fresh, healthy meal straight to your door and many are quite cost effective given the time saved.
Carb Off
Cut all the refined carbs if your goal is to lose weight. Foods like white bread, white rice and simple carbs do nothing to help your form. Instead, satisfy your carb cravings with sweet potato, roast pumpkin or almonds.
Protein Load
Eat more proteins in order to curb hunger and incorporate protein with every meal. The average man should be eating between 60-80 grams of protein per day, so load up your plate at every meal.
Drink Water Everyday
Drinking 3 litres of water everyday will help your body flush out toxins and absorb nutrients more effectively.Drinking enough water is also imperative for weight loss and minimising your risk of diabetes and heart disease. Keep a water bottle at your desk and drink consistently throughout the day.
Training
Sleep
Turn Off Your Phone ASAP
Every moment of sleep is value now that a baby has arrived. Shut off all technology as early as possible to prepare your body and brain for sleep. Keep technology out of the bedroom all together if you can, which will help your brain to know that when you are in bed, it’s time to sleep. No caffeine after 12:00pm. As much as you want to pump yourself full of caffeine to get through the day, you will pay for it at bedtime. Try and limit your caffeine intake to mornings only so the coffee will be full out of your system by 12:00pm.Also, note that your pre-workout might have caffeine in it, so swap for an alternative if necessary.

With so many eye-catching timepieces rolling out of SIHH 2018 in the past week, one would be hard pressed to find a watch that drew attention for its rich heritage and distinctly understated looks – the Santos de Cartier did just that for us.
Cartier surprised crowds in Geneva this year with a reintroduction of the French luxury house’s most iconic flying watch: the Santos de Cartier.
Brief History Lesson
Having first appeared in 1904, the Santos de Cartier was conceived under the request of Brazilian pilot Alberto Santos who wanted a watch he could wear during flight. It was from this basic requisite that Cartier’s first ever pilot’s watch was born.
Fast forward more than a century and today’s rendition of the Santos de Cartier comes with the same classic aesthetic lines with a modern twist – an innovative QuickSwitch and SmartLink system now brings interchangeable straps and bracelet adjustment to the forefront of the Santos de Cartier without the need for tools.
An Iconic Case
The most defining element of the watch’s design is the square case which remains predominantly unchanged from the original timepiece. The new one is however lighter thanks to an approximate 9mm case thickness and a new rounded bezel which tapers seamlessly into the lugs to provide a much cleaner look and better feel on the wrist.
Four variations of the Santos de Cartier have been released including the all stainless steel, stainless steel and yellow gold, pink gold and yellow gold variants. These options come in two sizes with the medium sitting at 35.1mm wide and the large at 39.8mm wide. All four variations carry a water resistance rating of 100 metres just incase the wearer is keen for a spot of diving after landing their seaplane.
Movement For A Modern World
Inside the case resides another jewel that is Cartier’s in-house developed 1847 MC automatic. This brand new movement brings together performance and ergonomics with its anti-magnetic nickel phosphorus components used in the escapement and movement mechanisms.
The engineering ensures that timing precision is fully retained against the interference of today’s onslaught of modern electromagnetic waves. Power reserve for this movement is 42 hours whilst the large version of the Santos de Cartier comes with the option of a skeletonised model in pink gold or stainless steel.
A Strapping Good Time
We mentioned the QuickSwitch and SmartLink system earlier and it’s this additional feature that will truly drive the appeal of the latest Cartier timepiece for those who want the classic look without the hassle.
All it takes is a push of a button on a link and it will detach itself from the bracelet to adjust size. If it’s an entirely different strap you’re after, that can also be switched out at the touch of a button without the need for fidgety tools.
More importantly, the new straps are much more diverse and can be tailored to suit any occasion according to the choice of materials and colours. This includes steel, gold, calfskin or alligator skin.

Sweden is one of the world’s leading countries when it comes to fiscal innovation. They gave us the world’s first bank note in the 1660s and have since been the first to suggest a national cryptocurrency. Today the Swedes are taking it a step further with the arrival of the world’s first whisky investment fund known as The Single Malt Fund.

Founded by a group of Swedish scotch enthusiasts, the fund will own its very own collection of ultra rare and limited edition whisky as opposed the current NYSE-listed funds which simply invest in spirits companies that produce Jack Daniels, Johnnie Walker and other brands.
Christian Svantesson who is the The Single Malt Fund’s CEO and co-founder explained to Business Insider that, “It’s essentially a commodity fund, but instead of gold we buy liquid gold”.
The audacious concept comes after one and a half years of “arduous” work from Svantesson and his team who had to get around some serious regulatory hurdles. The fund has since been approved by the Swedish financial watchdog as an alternative investment fund (AIF) and its founders are now positioning it to go public.
So what kind of returns can investors expect from The Single Malt Fund?
Given that rare whisky returned almost 28% in the past year only, it’s the long term outlook that will really get potential investors talking – 370% since 2010, according to the RW Apex 1000, which is an index of the world’s 1000 most valuable single malts compiled by the independent database known as Rare Whisky 101.
“In the past decade, the basket has averaged almost 25% growth per year – and we are opening up this opportunity to the broader masses,” says Svantesson.
“We asked ourselves, why isn’t this done professionally and under regulation, when there’s such a huge market? The historic return on whisky investments have been outstanding.”
It might sound like a lucrative proposition but even Svantesson is careful not to get ahead of himself too soon with a stated return target of 10% per year that’s non-inclusive of a 2.5% management fee. Investors who do take the plunge will undoubtedly expect more.
Rare single malt Scotch currently holds an edge over other commodities and spirits since there’s a a huge demand for it in China, India and the US. It’s a fact that is further reinforced on the supply side with the inventory’s long production times which isn’t diminishing people’s tendency to consume it.
In the coming month The Single Malt Fund will be accepting €1,000 EUR investments as a minimum before it officially gets listed on the Stockholm-based Nordic Growth Market (NGM-NDX) on March 12th.
Meanwhile, the dedicated whisky lover and pioneer of the fund hopes that his idea will open up the world of rare and limited whisky – once reserved for enthusiasts and experts – to the public.
And if you’re after investor perks, there’s none better than being able to get your hands on some of these rare bottles via The Single Malt’s own inventory.
“As some of the whisky could be difficult to get your hands on, we think this perk will be appreciated by many investors and collectors. And they will basically be buying from themselves, indirectly,” says Svantesson.
Now for the really bad news. The Single Malt Fund is only open to Swedish investors. For now. Skit.

The countdown is on until the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, but if you prefer to get a sweat on yourself instead of watching the pros, Chanel is here to make sure you do it in style.
Each season, the legendary French fashion house releases a series of accessories and novelty items alongside their clothing collections. It’s a chance for die-hard Chanel fans to immerse themselves in the brand and embrace unrepentant bouginess. Past collections have featured rollerblades, tennis balls, a guitar, a fishing rod, and a highly controversial boomerang.
Spring/Summer 2018 is off to a strong start with another assortment of chic monochrome sporting goods from Karl and co. The release includes a tennis racket, a yoga mat, and yoga cushions in black, as well as a paddle board in white with pale blue accents.
If you thought your gym membership was steep, it’s about to seem like a steal. The racket is currently priced (in USD) at $1,550. The yoga mat and cushions will set you back $8,400 and $6,250, respectively. And as for the paddle board, it could be yours – complete with paddle – for a paltry $18,900.
Of course, the Chanel website adds that these are just the recommended retail prices, so in the wild price tags may vary. If your New Year’s resolutions include getting swole and going broke, consider this the ultimate two-birds-one-stone solution.

Men love greasy food. It’s a fact of life that spawned the very idea for this story. An idea that somehow got the green light and then subsequently scared the bejesus out of our photographer. This crazy we speak of is tracking down ten of Sydney’s best ‘Dude Food’ joints.
This isn’t just about sloppy huge portions though. Magnificent bastards deserve better, so this list of the best dude food Sydney, compiled with the help of photographer Darwin Gomez also accounts for some intense flavour hits. If you fear calories and bacon with your ice cream, look away now.
#1 Pub Life Kitchen
This badass little eatery located in the inner-Sydney of Ultimo packs a serious punch when it comes to fine dude food. The pub it’s attached to is so small you could mistake it for a corner store. Rest assured it will rarely happen if you follow your nose and the loitering crowds out front. We got to sample ‘The Bird’ – a Dorito crumbed (yes, like the chip) fried chicken burger with slaw, jack cheese and mayo, and the classic house Cheeseburger – a 10 day salt cured 200g beef patty with jack cheese, Kosher pickles, onions, mustard and tomato sauce.
Cool fact: Every Wednesday the kitchen concocts an experimental burger for their fans. In the past they’ve plated up things like a Fois Gras Black Truffle Burger. If you like your food to taste like Scarlett Johansson slapping you in the face, this is the place to get it.
Location: 265 Bulwara Rd, Ultimo
#2 Vic’s Meat Market
Victor Churchill has been one of Eastern Sydney’s finest butchers for years with a shop fit out that’s more accustomed to a high end men’s clothing store than a meat supplier. Last year they took over the Sydney Fish Markets by opening up their first store that also has an American-style smoking eatery attached to it. At Vic’s, we got to sample two of their current hero burgers which have been gaining rave reviews from local Sydneysiders. The 12-hour smoked pulled pork and 12-hour smoked beef brisket burger, teamed with house made slaw and BBQ sauce will send your tastebuds to another planet.
Cool fact: The entire fish markets now smells like smoked BBQ meat instead of fish.
Location: Sydney Fish Markets, Bank St, Pyrmont
#3 Mary’s Newtown & Sydney CBD
Currently the talk of Sydney town is a radical burger joint called Mary’s. Their burgers certainly don’t look anything spectacular, but that’s the beauty of it – we reckon the chefs intentionally downplay the aesthetics of their simple looking burgers so that they can claim your head when you actually taste it. With an ex-chef from Tetsuya’s on hand and owners who have had their beginnings at Sydney’s award-winning restaurants like Bodega and Porteno, you can rest assured your buns are in good hands. We got to sample the Mary’s Burger along with their Mary’s Fried Chicken.
Cool fact: The Newtown joint holds theme nights (we think, or it could be just Newtown). The night we dropped in was Slayer night with thrash metal blaring from the cosy two-levelled eatery. No joke, there was also a queue to get in with a bouncer – for burgers. Once inside, it was so dark you couldn’t really tell what you were eating. It was awesome.
Location: 6 Mary St, Newtown & 154 Castlereagh St, Sydney
#4 Devon Cafe
Cafe food in a dude food Sydney list? Indeed. Sydney’s diverse food scene is always changing and many cafes are now innovating the style of food they serve. One of these places is Devon Cafe located in inner-city Surry Hills. We trialled a very sweet dish from their breakfast menu – and we use that term quite loosely as The Little Lost Bread consisted of a brioche French toast lathered with fresh and freeze dried stawberries, strawberry gastrique and Arnott’s biscuit crumble with strawberry cheesecake ice cream. Oh and bacon. Bacon on ice cream. For breakfast. Who does this stuff?
Cool fact: Every patron in Devon is also a professional Instagrammer. I spotted the girl on the table next to us Instagramming our photographer as he was taking photos of our food. The coffee is also tops.
Location: 76 Devonshire St, Surry Hills
#5 Oxford Tavern Black Betty BBQ
This place used to be a topless bar. And now they do some of Sydney’s best BBQ smoked meats. Situated in the inner-western suburb of Petersham, the Oxford Tavern holds its own against all them fancy city food joints. It’s a homely spot for a good Sunday beer with friends in the beer garden, but be warned: smoked meats will run out (as we found out) and they are only done on Saturdays and Sundays from 12pm so showing up at 4pm is futile. We settled for their alternative menu which was a Chilli Double Dawg that’s about two lengths your face along with their Dino’s Charcoal Chicken. Both had a good BBQ kick for non-smoked meats. Be sure to book ahead if you plan on going.
Cool fact: They’ve kept the neon sign out front that features a topless girl with the text ‘Live Hot BBQ’, as well as the mirrors on the ceilings inside. You can now check out that juicy rear end of your chicken.
Location: 1 Canterbury Rd, Petersham
#6 Mr. Crackles
If you’re after the true epitome of dude food Sydney then you can’t go past Mr. Crackles located on Sydney’s main nightlife street. This hole in the wall sandwich eatery has enough room for about ten people to sit on the inside benches and the rest to line up. We got recommended the manliest of their man rolls, the double-the-pork Manwich with a “side” of crispy pork nacho fries which looked bigger than the sandwich itself. The place is open late most nights and happily services those who stumble out of the surrounding bars with quality food instead of a sloppy kebab.
Cool fact: You can enjoy one of the city’s best pork crackling rolls whilst standing on Oxford Street watching drunk weirdos at 2am.
Location: 155 Oxford St, Darlinghurst
#7 Brooklyn Social
Update: Brooklyn Social has unfortunately closed due to unforeseen reasons. Feel free to hit up any other of these places on the list.
Inspired by American style drinking holes, it’s no suprise what kind of food Brooklyn Social serves up. Really hearty and heavy American grub. Fried chicken, burgers, curly fries, American beer, Brooklyn Social have it all. And it’s something you definitely need to try in Sydney. We got hold of their Meat Packing District burger, a quarter pounder of beef patty with dill pickles, onions and Social’s special sauce. Their Southern fried chicken with house seasoning was also a winner for a side dish.
Cool fact: The crowds of trendy young professionals along with the fit out of the place makes it feel like you’re in an episode of How I Met Your Mother. Screaming ‘Barney!’ at every passing suit is highly encouraged.
Location: 17 Randle St, Surry Hills
#8 Zeus Street Greek
Venturing out of the Sydney city centre will find you just a good a dude food joint. Located in Sydney’s inner-west is a spot that does a mean gyros. The Greek version of the kebab is actually nothing like a kebab, with quality fresh ingredients used throughout and thick fluffy pita bread. We scored four of their signature gyros dishes which included charcoal grilled beef, pulled pork and lamb. Definitely a stop off if you’re heading out of the city.
Cool fact: Tzatziki sauce. That is all.
Location: 187 – 189 Lyons Rd, Drummoyne
#9 Fat Rupert’s
At the time of our tasting, Fat Rupert’s of Bondi had actually popped up a temporary eatery in the city called Rupert & Ruby. Same people behind it, different menu. We dropped into their city joint to try their ridiculous Fried chicken and Honey Butter Waffle Ice Cream. Not many dude food places in Sydney have toyed with waffles but they’re starting to do it a lot more now in the surging cafe scene. Fat Rupert’s lives up to its name by creating this monster of a man meal.
Cool fact: The table of three girls next to us ordered one each and finished it. We wanted to marry them. Their Bondi eatery also features awesome street art out front.
Location: 249 Bondi Rd, Bondi
#10 Paramount Coffee Project
We told you the waffles would make a comeback. Paramount Coffee Project of Surry Hills doesn’t just brew some good coffee. Their kitchen also does some funky and unexpected dishes like the one we tried which was a fried chicken waffle with Japanese curry and bacon – again, for breakfast. It’s definitely not a light meal before you hit the gym, but hey, if you’re eating this kind of stuff then you’re probably not too concerned about your macro.
Cool fact: The cafe is situated in the building that was once home to Paramount Pictures Australia. Hence the cafe name. The building is also home to some of the trendiest organisations like Vice Australia.
Location: 80 Commonwealth St, Surry Hills

Audemars Piguet broke the mould when it debuted the world’s first luxury sports watch in 1972. Now, with the Royal Oak and its descendants firmly enshrined in the horological hall of fame, the Swiss watchmaker is one again shaking up industry standards.
At SIHH 2018 in Geneva, Audemars Piguet announced plans to launch a second-hand business this year. The move marks an audacious break from industry tradition, which has long eschewed the resale market for fear of diluting brand exclusivity, and makes the company the first prominent luxury watchmaker to embrace the growing market for pre-owned premium timepieces.

“Second-hand is the next big thing in the watch industry,” Chief Executive Francois-Henry Bennahmias told Reuters during an interview at the watch fair.
Watchmakers have struggled to contend with an industry-wide sales slump and the rapid expansion of the luxury second-hand market (fueled largely by online platforms like Chrono24 and The RealReal) in recent years. And so, after a long practice of leaving the “dirty work” of resale to third-party dealers, brands are preparing to take the plunge into the pre-owned space themselves.
“At the moment, in watches, we leave it to what I call the ‘dark side’ to deal with demand for pre-owned pieces,” Bennahmias continued. “Anybody but the brands (is selling second hand) – it’s an aberration commercially speaking.”
He estimates that the pre-owned business could be 10 to 20 times the size of the market for new watches. In addition to the financial benefits, bringing resales in-house would also allow Audemars Piguet to maintain more control over its products throughout their life cycle.
It’s not the only brand contemplating entry into this brave new world. Jean-Claude Biver, head of LVMH watch brands TAG Heuer, Hublot and Zenith, has said he’s considering entering the market. H.Moser & Cie and MB&F have also indicated interest in exploring the resale trade.
“It is important to control the sale of second-hand watches to protect the owners and the value of watches already in the market by keeping the grey market in check,” H.Moser & Cie boss Edouard Meylan told Reuters.
Audemars Piguet has reportedly conducted a test run in one store in Geneva so far, with plans to expand the business to other outlets in Switzerland later this year. If early trials are successful, the brand will roll out the operation in the United States and Japan.
“We’re witnessing a social and cultural change that forces us to think about what the business will look like in five or 10 years,” Bennahmias said. “Time flies, we need to watch out.”

If the latest comments from Ferrari chairman and Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne are to be believed, then 2020 will finally see the arrival of a dedicated ‘FUV’ – that’s Italian sign language for Ferrari Utility Vehicle.

Fresh reports from Auto Express earlier this week outlined that Marchionne has his sights set on launching the car within the next two years whilst in October last year the Ferrari head said that the company was looking at production capacity within the next 30 months.
The latest comments are the strongest indication yet that a Ferrari SUV is imminent however the CEO did outline some non-negotiable constraints for the car.
“It will look like whatever a Ferrari utility vehicle needs to look like,” Marchionne said. “But it has to drive like a Ferrari.”
This is likely a response to the some of the performance SUVs coming out from other Italian camps including its sister company Alfa Romeo which holds the Nurburgring SUV record with their Stelvio QV, and its arch nemesis Lamborghini who last year debuted the long-awaited Urus ‘Super Sport Utility Vehicle’.
Cannibalising its own didn’t seem to be on Marchionne’s mind either. “I don’t think Ferrari fears Alfa,” he said. “It will do its best to build the fastest SUV.”
With the Lamborghini Urus coming with proper off-road capabilities via its snow, sand and tarmac driving modes, it’s likely that Ferrari will also follow suit in order to compete.
So how close are we to seeing the world’s first Ferrari SUV?
Marchionne is hoping for a late 2019 or early 2020 launch based off the prototypes he’s already viewed in the past week. There’s no doubt that the prancing horse has massive shoes to fill especially since the executive previously proclaimed to the public that “you have to shoot me first” before giving the green light to a Ferrari SUV.
The impending Ferrari FUV certainly looks to be playing out as a swan song for Marchionne as the man will officially be stepping down as FCA CEO in 2019 before fully exiting the Maranello outfit in 2021.
