Henry Golding Went Full ‘Crazy Rich Asian’ With A $64,000 Wimbledon Watch
Henry Golding Went Full ‘Crazy Rich Asian’ With A $64,000 Wimbledon Watch

Wimbledon may be over for 2019 but the impeccable sartorial looks continue to roll in from the lawns of London and today it’s ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ star Henry Golding’s time to shine.

Decked out from head to toe in a Ralph Lauren suit which was very similar to David Beckham’s, Golding demonstrated the stylish pulling power of a summer suit separate. The suit featured a double breasted beige blazer paired to white trousers and brown brogue dress shoes. The dress shirt appears to be the exact same one David Beckham was rocking just a few days earlier in blue pinstripe and a contrasting white collar. Even the patterned navy tie mimics Beckham’s one. A simple white pocket square and sunglasses topped off the sharp summer ensemble.

But let’s not forget the ‘Crazy Rich Asian’ style points. Being quite the watch connoisseur off camera, Golding paired his suit with a rather sought-after Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A which currently commands around AU$63,960 in the resale market, according to Fratello Watches. That figure is a fair mark-up from its debut in 2006 which saw this particular Patek model retail for around AU$43,000. It’s a big ask for a stainless steel piece with no complications other than a date function, but we suppose that’s the nature of Pateks and supply and demand. Need more proof of the luxury Swiss watchmaker’s pulling power?

Here’s Tom Holland a few weeks ago at the Spider Man premiere casually wearing an $80,000 Patek Philippe Aquanaut (which you can read more about here). If these ‘wearable’ Pateks continue to get this kind of exposure then you can expect to see bigger price tags in the resale space.

The Dating Truth Everyone Knows But No-One Admits
The Dating Truth Everyone Knows But No-One Admits

If you’ve ever had a particularly spicy session between the sheets — whether with someone you’ve known twenty minutes or twenty years — you’ll know that ’emotional honesty’ is key to having the best sex of your life. However, when it comes to dating, there is one specious truth that most of us choose to ignore.

“Everybody hates the dating game until it actually works out.”

While we are not excusing (per se) ghosting, orbiting, or any of the other ‘social media age’ dating sins — we are calling to account people’s lazy tendency to write off ‘dating in 2019’.

Inspired by the aforementioned quote — Reddit’s r/dating_advice community — is currently debating whether dating ‘games’ actually serve a purpose — and whether it’s hypocritical to criticise them.

While some users despised ambiguity (“I hate the ‘game’. I wish people would just say what they felt and not play,”) others on the trending thread argued, “Sometimes the game is necessary.”

Of course, while major deal breakers like cheating and/or being on the FBI’s most wanted list were roundly criticised (“Waiting until real emotions are involved to let someone know life altering information about you is really f*cked up!”) the idea that dating games are actually quite useful kept popping up.

“A lot of people don’t respond well to the truth (and) a lot of the time the truth will make things extremely uncomfortable or complicate the situation more.”

“Let’s say you like your friend,” one user suggested, “Not even in love, just kind of a crush — and you’re not sure how he/she feels about you.”

“You could just straight up tell him/her, but one of two things will happen. They can either react positively, as everyone hopes, or they could reject your proposal and then the friendship becomes awkward.”

It was also acknowledged that a little grey area is inevitable, with one introspective commenter admitting: “I have no idea what I’m truly feeling most of the time, how the hell am I going to tell other people?”.

“People don’t necessarily know instantly if the person in front of them meshes with what they want. Sometimes what looks like ‘playing games’ is more like still checking things out. That’s what dating is. That’s what flirting is.”

Others were even harsher, suggesting that if you’re sick of people “playing games” it may not be the games that are the problem for you: “Not saying people also don’t play games, just saying sometimes what you’re seeing is honesty.”

Or, as one aspiring comedian put it: eharmony sells hope “one heartbreak at a time.” Inspired? Check out the following tools for improvement and your dating life may not suffer the same fate as the Reddit misanthropes.

Three Of Hollywood’s Biggest Celebrities On How Fatherhood Has Changed In 2019
Three Of Hollywood’s Biggest Celebrities On How Fatherhood Has Changed In 2019

Being a father used to be simple. You spent the day at work and the night down the pub. You never learned how to change a nappy. And your signature moves were watching TV and forgetting to do the shopping.

While this is a gross stereotype, the caricature, unfortunately, draws from reality.

However, as some of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities — including Mark Wahlberg, Hugh Jackman and Ben Stiller — point out in a recently released book for a new generation of dads: this is rapidly changing.

Tearing down the ‘hapless dad’ and ‘nagging mum’ tropes, The Father Hood authors Luke Benedictus, Jeremy Macvean and Andrew McUtchen interview some of the world’s most high profile fathers, providing heartfelt and helpful advice.

Whether you’ve already got more kids than Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt or your firstborn is still just a glint in the milkman’s eye — here’s some top parenting tips for men.

Mark Wahlberg

For Mark, especially in the current climate where you can “in one generation — turn things around, but also — in another — lose everything” it is crucial to set a good example — no matter your financial situation.

“I think the most important thing about being a dad is to be an example. For me, that comes through in my work ethic, the kind of focus that I have, my faith, what I have with my family, as well as my profession and the other businesses that I’m involved with.”

“You can preach one thing, but if you’re doing another they’re still seeing what you’re doing.”

How does this play out in everyday life? “I don’t force my kids to go to church with me but I make sure that I’m going.”

“Hopefully they’ll see that those things work for me and know that Dad became successful because he was willing to work harder than everybody else… if I can give them that, then they’re good.”

This is something David Beckham emphasised too, telling The Father Hood, “Your kids are always watching and your conduct defines their values.”

“I want to show my kids that now, after the first part of Dad’s life and the first part of his career, he still continues to work hard. That’s what I want them to learn.”

Hugh Jackman

Indecisive? Hugh has some comforting winter soup advice for you. What is it? When it all gets complicated and you find yourself at a crossroads, he says, just ask yourself one simple question, “is this good for our family?”

He also gave you an excuse to squeeze in a few Friday nights with your mates, explaining that what’s good for your family and what’s good for you shouldn’t always be mutually exclusive.

“Sometimes that can mean doing something for yourself; no one wants a husband or a father who is miserable.”

In terms of teaching your kids to make their own decisions, Hugh offers a coming of age tale of his own, which shows why leading by example and allowing them to make their own mistakes is better than dictating.

Hugh, for example, when he went to his dad to ask whether he should turn down a job on Neighbours to continue studying acting, was told to make the decision on his own.

Upon hearing his dad’s relief at his decision to keep studying, Hugh recalls the following conversation.

“Why didn’t you tell me that.”

“It was your decision.”

Ben Stiller

While Ben Stiller admits that “success can also take you away from your personal relationships,” he says that planning can be your saving grace.

“When you’re working all the time and if you are devoting yourself to that, you have to figure out a way to balance it.”

Barack Obama

Who better to illustrate Ben’s comments than Barrack Obama, who was not directly interviewed like the others but whose quotes the book draws upon to demonstrate that — no matter your position at work — it is always possible to make time for your family.

“You don’t have to defuse a nuclear situation in Iran. If the former president could make it home for dinner at six-thirty, maybe you can, too,” (The Father Hood).

“Obama vowed to break the cycle of the absent father, and becoming the leader of the free world wasn’t going to stop him,” the book continued, explaining how the president “insisted on sitting down for dinner with his wife and daughters at six thirty every night… conced(ing) to miss this a maximum of twice a week.”

“Any fool can have a child. That doesn’t make you a father. It’s the courage to raise a child that makes you a father.”

While this attitude limited Obama’s availability to his aides, his potential to go on fundraising trips and his outreach to Congress, he went ahead with it because he had his priorities in order.

As he once reasoned when addressing the graduating class at Morehouse College — on his death bed he won’t be pondering his policies or even the Nobel Peace Prize; he’ll be thinking of moments shared with his daughters and his wife and “whether I did right by all of them.”

Any Advice To Avoid?

As for the advice you may want to avoid? Luke Benedictus says that the most dangerous piece of advice he was given was this: “When you become a dad, the most important thing you can do is to look after your wife, so she can look after the baby.”

While part of the advice is fine — you absolutely should look after your wife — the second part, Luke says, “is dangerous because it nudges you to withdraw from the engine room of parenthood, gently ushering you towards a more peripheral role.”

This is worsened by such factors as “the shit fight over parental leave” and the fact that “paternal connection requires time and prolonged contact to develop” often leading to a situation where your partner’s daily exposure to your child starts to build up her expertise… and you “turn into mum’s assistant.”

Want more tips on how to stop this from happening (and on how to become a kick-ass parent, generally)?

10 Timeless Hat Brands That Will Make You Look Insanely Sharp In Any Weather

Once upon a time, hats were one of the most important accessories for men, and no, we’re not talking about that sweat-stained baseball cap your dad wears to mow the lawn. We’re talking about proper, old-school, brimmed hats that exude style, character, and history.Whilst serving a functional purpose for protection against the elements, hats are a great opportunity to share your origins, style, and even holiday plans. How so? Donning an Akubra Cattleman with jeans shows people you’re either a country boy or a concrete cowboy, whilst a Panama with chinos shows people you’re either a classy lad looking for some shade or going on holiday to Fiji next week.Whatever you’re trying to say or look like, there is a hat for you, and getting it right will help you stand out for all the right reasons.

Men’s Hat FAQs

What are the best brimmed hats made with?

Cotton and woolen felt are popular choices for brimmed hats since they are breathable and durable. They are also soft and come in a wide variety of colours. Straw and fur-felt are also good options.

What is a flat cap?

Also called an ivy cap, a flat cap is distinguishable with its slightly rounded top extending to the front of the hat and sewn to the bill. It can be made from wool, cotton, or polyester.

What's the difference between a Fedora and a Trilby hat?

The Fedora and the Trilby are very similar, however, the Trilby hat will have a narrower brim and a taller crown. Fedoras, meanwhile, have a wider brim and a shorter crown, making them ideal for more formal occasions. Trilby hats are better suited for casual occasions.

With over 40 different hat styles alone, it can be difficult to find the right one so to make your decision easier, here is our selection of the best hats for men.

Dwayne Johnson Is Showing Bodybuilders How To Rock One Of The Hardest Suit Colours
Dwayne Johnson Is Showing Bodybuilders How To Rock One Of The Hardest Suit Colours

He’s the undisputed king of modern action films and for the premiere of his latest – ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ –  alongside fellow action guy Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson rocked one hell of a casual suit for bodybuilders in a very unconventional colour: brown.

Whilst not the easiest colour to wear, it’s not even considered one of the most popular in formal menswear circles thanks to its old world aesthetic, a flavour which doesn’t seem to fit one of Hollywood’s most physically imposing actors today. Nonetheless Johnson’s gun stylist Ilaria Urbinati made it work by dressing Johnson head-to-toe in a sleek custom Ralph Lauren three-piece alongside some good heavage. The brown suit was paired with a nicely cut waistcoat in ivory, a white dress shirt with no tie, a simple white pocket square and matching brown suede dress shoes. Brown transition sunglasses also added an extra touch of polish to Johnson’s massive frame.

The watch of choice was a classy IWC Portofino finished in an 18K gold case and matching brown leather strap. An elegant departure from the Big Pilot or Panerai watches that usually look small on this guy.

Proof that hardcore action men and bodybuilders can look damn good in a suit? Your proof is right here. Just remember to get everything tailored to avoid looking like a dodgy car salesman. Or read our complete guide on how to dress if you have huge muscles.

Iconic Italian Beach Scene Sparks Age-Old Debate
Iconic Italian Beach Scene Sparks Age-Old Debate

Babylonian beach scenes from the Green Island of Ischia and the lavish Marina Piccola of Capri have just re-ignited the most picturesque debate of all time: are Italian beaches really the best in the world?

Captured by Doors Of Italy founder Ryan Neeven, and then reposted to Type 7 — a luxury car and travel Instagram account — the iconic images immediately sparked debate among travel fans online.

View this post on Instagram

“The seaside towns of Italy are a world in themselves, drastically different landscapes and culture of the hustle and bustle of the big cities like Milano and Roma. From the shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea to the quiet coves on the Adriatic Sea, there is nothing like the beaches in Italy. Even though the beaches remain uniquely their own, one thing is consistent throughout and that is the colorful array of perfectly aligned umbrellas clad in colorful broad stripe patterns or dip-dye effects laid out on the warm sand. Inspired by the way Slim Aaron’s captured the elegance and charm of these same beaches many years ago, I use his work as an inspiration and recreated some of these same scenes through a more modern lens. Grab an Aperol Spritz and slip underneath the umbrella on the Green Island of Ischia or to the lavish Marina Piccola on Capri and enjoy Life by the Tide.“ ⁣ Words and photos by @neevenr

A post shared by type7 (@type7) on

While some people suggested that the images are the digital embodiment of everything a discerning traveller should aspire (and hopefully retire) to (“Me in 50 years on photo 7”) others remained unconvinced.

In response to fawning, “The Italians know how to do beach,” and “Makes me want to jump on a plane right now,” type statements, some fans of the page made comments like, “Amazing pics but if I’m honest those beaches look super unpleasant.”

“Easy pass — way over-rated, overpriced and crowded.”

This feeds into a larger debate about whether popular towns should charge tourists for entry — something which neither Ischia nor Capri have done yet, but which has been trialled by the likes of Polignano a Mare and Venice, to varying degrees of success.

Rocking A Black T-Shirt Is Slicker Than You Think; Here’s The Right Way To Do It
Rocking A Black T-Shirt Is Slicker Than You Think; Here’s The Right Way To Do It

Arguably one of the most underrated basics a man can ever have in his wardrobe is the black t-shirt. Often relegated to the darkest corners of the closet thanks to the collapse of 2005’s emo empire, black t-shirts are today making a quiet comeback – and they can actually add a slick aesthetic to your personal look if you play your cards right. From styles to combos to fitment, this is your complete guide for how to wear a black t-shirt.

Choosing The Right Black T-Shirt

These days black t-shirts are used as a base layer under cardigans and jackets as much as they are on their own for casual duties. There’s an art to picking the right black tee though if you want to spice things up. But first, a crash course in black t-shirt styles.

Types Of Black T-Shirts

The major defining factor to any t-shirt – and not just black t-shirts – is their neckline design. Crew necks are the most common type which feature a rounded neck line. The second most common type of t-shirt is the v-neck – a slightly showier form of the crew neck which pairs better with blazers. The grandad neck with the button placket is the most ‘advanced’ form of t-shirt (it’s really not) which is best suited to layering with denim jackets and cardigans. Ryan Gosling famously wore a white one with jeans in Drive to great effect and the same can be said for the black variant.

Black T-Shirt Fits

This one’s nice and simple. There are generally just three cuts of tees for men and they fall under slim fit, regular fit and baggy fit. Each one has their place in the menswear space depending on personal preference but we figure the image will best give you the idea. Some quick ground rules: slim fit t-shirts are best paired to slim fit bottoms whether that be pants, jeans or shorts. Regular black t-shirts can be worn with slim and baggier bottoms. Baggy black t-shirts can be worn with big fit bottoms or slimmer ones like Kanye if you’re going for the street luxe look.

Black T-Shirt With A Suit

T-shirts these days play a crucial role in the smart casual space for men. Black t-shirts in particular add to this dress code but with a slicker aesthetic (it is black after all). For blazer and denim combos we suggest pairing a v-neck tee as this draws attention to the centre of the body. Those who are going the full suit route with blazer and trousers can opt for the rounded neck t-shirts as this gives off a real Euro summer vibe without dropping your fashionisto points.

Black T-Shirt With A Jacket

The home of the black t-shirt is under a fine jacket. As one of the most stylish and versatile looks, the black tee and jacket combo can take a man from smart casual duties through to evening drinks. As you can see there’s no limit to the style of jackets as well. A denim jacket is a no brainer with black tees. Just make sure the denim jacket colour is different to the jeans colour otherwise you’ll pull off a double denim overkill. A suede jacket is also a sharper way to wear the black t-shirt but for multi-purpose casual cool, you can’t go past the bomber jacket. Given the neutral tone of a black t-shirt, you can let the jacket colour, texture and detailing do all the talking. Super simple stuff.

Black T-Shirt With Jeans

Jeans belong in every man’s wardrobe and their pairing with black t-shirts is anything but boring. Take one Justin Theroux for example. As a dedicated purveyor of the black t-shirt Theroux has paired it with all variations of denim from washed indigo jeans to white jeans to black jeans. Fitment is key to owning this look with skinny jeans in any colour often working the best with black t-shirts. Those who aren’t fans of form fitting pants can opt for a more regular fit with rolled cuffs paired to leather boots. This casual look is more representative of motorcycle styling and will give you a masculine edge. White jeans or lighter coloured pants paired to black t-shirts are more for the fashionably inclined. It’s a look which works best during the warmer seasons.

Black T-Shirt With Shorts

Did we say warmer seasons? When the heat is really on black t-shirts make for the perfect pairing with all types of shorts from gym shorts to denim shorts and fitted dress shorts. Gym shorts are naturally relaxed fit to serve functionality but if you want to add a bit more ‘style’ to it, wear a pair of compression pants under the shorts. It’s important to highlight that this look should be used in and between gym sessions rather than a dedicated outfit to a bar. For denim shorts, regular fit or slim fit black t-shirts will work just fine. As with most garments if you’ve got the physique then don’t be afraid to show it off with a slimmer tee. Dress shorts take the whole black teen and shorts game to dressier heights (obviously) – but think boat parties and Sunday cafe lunches during summer. It’s a more polished way to wear a black t-shirt and we do recommend you go a slimmer fit to make it look a little less casual.

Black T-Shirt With Joggers

Whether you like them or not joggers have fast become one of the hottest selling wardrobe items for men in recent years. Their tapered and fitted design means they can straddle the fine line between gym wear and athleisure without looking daggy. And given their sport aesthetic and slim cut design, it’s always best to pair it with a slim-fit black t-shirt. It’s cleaner look but people have championed the oversized black tee and jogger combo as well. The latter just comes across as more street luxe fashion than athleisure so it all depends on your preference.
