Die Hard Cast & Crew
Bruce Willis stars as John McClane, a grizzled and resourceful New York City police detective who finds himself ensnared in the heist of a century while visiting Los Angeles. Alan Rickman plays the main antagonist Hans Gruber, a cool, calculated German terrorist and architect of the heist.
Willis wasn’t the studio’s first choice for McClane: the role was first offered to other big action movie stars including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, Clint Eastwood and Sylvester Stallone. Other actors in contention included Richard Gere, Harrison Ford, Paul Newman and Al Pacino.
In the end, the relatively unknown Willis got the part. He ended up being the perfect pick, and Die Hard catapulted him to movie star and action-hero status.
Rickman’s charismatic portrayal of Gruber is also widely considered one of the best parts of the film, and Gruber would prove to be his most famous role – until his performance as Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film franchise became his biggest claim to fame.
Other stars in Die Hard include Bonnie Bedelia, who plays McClane’s estranged wife Holly; Reginald VelJohnson, who plays LAPD sergeant Al Powell; Alexander Godunov as Karl, Gruber’s second-in-command and De’voreaux White as Argyle, McClane’s limousine driver.
Die Hard was directed by John McTiernan from a screenplay written by Jeb Stuart and Steven E. de Souza. A little-known fact is that Die Hard was actually based on the 1979 novel Nothing Lasts Forever by Roderick Thorp.
The Plot
Die Hard follows New York City police detective John McClane, who is caught up in a terrorist takeover of a Los Angeles skyscraper while visiting his estranged wife on Christmas Eve. Facing seemingly insurmountable odds, McClane is forced to stop the terrorist plot and save his wife without any backup.
What The Critics & Reviews Say
Currently, Die Hard has an 8.2 IMDb score and a critic rating of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. As the latter puts it, “its many imitators (and sequels) have never come close to matching the taut thrills of the definitive holiday action classic.”
Australian Release Date
Die Hard was released in Australian cinemas on October 6th 1988.

An American football player who looks like he’s “12 in dog years” or “12 going on 40” has the Internet shaken, not stirred.
Jeremiah Johnson, a football player who is apparently only 12 years old, has left the Internet picking its jaw up off the floor after winning honours at the Youth National Championship this weekend in Miami.
WATCH: ’12 year old’ NFL talent leaves the Internet shook
After a picture of the young talent, resplendent with a moustache and tattoos, went viral on Instagram, social media users were left flabbergasted at Jeremiah’s claimed age.
While many people thought he looked middle-aged already, Jeremiah says he is actually 12 (or rather, he mumbles it in an Instagram video).
Not everyone is believing it though, with one person saying “his kids are 12.” Another said there was “zero chance” he wasn’t a grown man. Others asked to see his birth certificate.
Further sources of doubt for the Instagram brigade were Jeremiah’s tattoo (although we suppose this could be a temporary one) and his moustache. More funny comments included: “Can’t say it’s unrealistic for 30-year-olds to play high schoolers in movies anymore” and “someone said he tells his parents when it’s their bedtime.”
“He is 41 years old divorced with 2 kids,” another opined.
Another Instagram comedian said: “Dude is definitely a police sergeant doing an undercover sting as a 6th grader. His partners Chaunce Hayden and Jonah Hill are slightly out of frame.”

You have to take everything Dan Bilzerian says with a grain of salt – but his nonchalant claim about an eye-wateringly expensive watch theft is attracting fresh scrutiny after it’s re-emerged and gone viral on TikTok.
The professional poker player, man mountain, entrepreneur and self-proclaimed ‘King of Instagram’ claimed in an interview last year that he had a $1 million watch “stolen off his wrist” while attending a much-publicised boxing match between super middleweights Canelo Álvarez vs. Caleb Plant.
At the time, most of the media took these claims fairly seriously – but after a clip of the interview made its way to TikTok again earlier this week, social media users have questioned Bilzerian’s account, suggesting that his story is a bit fishy.
WATCH Dan Bilzerian talk about his alleged watch theft below.
We’d like to point out first of all that the watch in question was allegedly Bilzerian’s Richard Mille RM 11-03 Automatic Flyback Chronograph McLaren: an incredibly expensive watch, but not a million-dollar watch.
When the RM 11-03 launched back in 2018, it retailed for US$191,500, and aftermarket prices for the watch currently sit around US$500-600k. Expensive, but not a million bucks. Anyway…
RELATED: Dan Bilzerian’s Insane Car Collection Could Fund A Rogue State
TikTok users have also suggested that Bilzerian’s not telling the truth about the theft. Seeing as Bilzerian owed a serious amount of money to investors at the time, many have suggested that he might have set up the theft to claim the insurance on it. Others have suggested he was just renting the watch… Ouch.
Regardless of whether or not you believe Bilzerian that his watch got stolen, it is true that he has a rather insane watch collection. In fact, this is a man who (apparently) buys so many watches that he ‘accidentally’ bought the same watch twice.

The White Lotus director has just dropped a major hint about the show’s third season, saying S3 may “look at death and eastern religion and spirituality.”
Now the second season of The White Lotus is finally over, fans are eagerly thinking about where the rollicking and frolicking of season three might be set.
WATCH: The White Lotus director Mike White reveals the ‘theme’ for season 3
Though nothing has been confirmed, The White Lotus director Mike White has shared a hint about where season three might take place. Speaking on an HBO insight video, he said that while season one focussed on money and season two focussed on sex, season three “may be a kind of satirical and funny look at death and eastern religion and spirituality.”
He added: “it feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round of White Lotus.”
RELATED: Influencer’s Bali ‘Wet Market’ Video Sparks Debate Over Animal Cruelty

According to West Chester University, “At the risk of being very Eurocentric, Eastern Religions are those religions historically associated with the Eastern Hemisphere. This includes Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, to name a few.”
Though Indonesia is a majority Muslim country, Bali is predominately Hindu.
RELATED: Everything ‘The White Lotus’ Taught Us About Hotel Etiquette
This in mind, and given seasons one and two of The White Lotus focussed on popular tourist destinations (in Hawaii and Italy respectively), we’re placing our bets now that The White Lotus season three will be set in Bali. Why? Bali is firmly ~on trend~ what with Ubud’s influx of digital nomads, Canggu’s ‘crossfitification’ and the influenza of influencers in Uluwatu.
RELATED: American Fitness Influencer’s Rude Remark Leaves Bali Bakery Shocked
We can just see it now: death and digital nomads. Faux spiritual Westerners. Trustafarians. Tattoos. Muffler burns. Yoga. Meme merchants. Fitness influencers. Surfing. Ultra-wealthy travel bloggers selling presets. Crypto entrepreneurs. Kelly Slater. It could all make the perfect backdrop for the next cast of super-rich Americans cluelessly visiting Bali.
Then again we could be wrong and it could be set at some Buddhist retreat in China, or Vipassana in Northern India (or Thailand). Who knows, the theme of co-opted spirituality could even be ripe to explore in Byron Bay (they don’t call it the Bondi, Byron Bay, Bali triangle for nothing).
Or maybe we’re totally off the mark: maybe the White Lotus season three will be somewhere like an ultra-luxe resort in West Sumba; somewhere Nihi Sumba esque (although given the first two seasons were set at quite mainstream destinations, we reckon The White Lotus season three being set in Bali is more likely).
Whatever ends up happening, after the success of the first two seasons, we can only imagine fans will be eager to tune in for more. All the directors need to do is figure out a less ear-grating theme tune and we’ll be laughing.

Comedy legend Dave Chappelle is coming back to Australia in 2023, with five highly anticipated shows.
The notorious comedian is returning to Australia in 2023. He will be performing in Perth on the 2nd of February, Sydney on the 5th of February, Wollongong on the 8th of February, Melbourne on the 11th of February and Brisbane on the 15th of February.
There will not be a show in Adelaide – something South Australians aren’t too pleased about, with comments on Live Nation’s Instagram already rolling in complaining about it.
“Aaaaand once again no Adelaide,” wrote one, while another exclaimed: “Fuck Adelaide!!”
Chappelle’s latest specials, The Closer, The Age of Spin, Equanimity and the Bird Revelation, Deep in the Heart of Texas and Sticks and Stones have seen him burst back into the public consciousness after a period of relative reclusion after he quit Chappelle’s Show after just three seasons (walking away from a reported $50 million deal in the process).
He’s generated controversy, won awards (he was given the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2019) and doesn’t look like getting cancelled anytime soon (despite his best efforts).
The Daily Beast called The Closer: “Chappelle’s most incendiary, troubling, and unapologetic one yet” while World of Reel called it “a revolutionary act of defiance.”
Chappelle has a way of captivating audiences. As the New York Times reports, Aziz Ansari, another stand-up comedian, said he had heard stories of comedy club workers telling guests their cars were in danger of being towed, but the guests still did not move, Chappelle was so funny.
“That’s how compelling this man can be.”
Aziz Ansari
If you like a bit of Chappelle, you can find tickets here. Tickets will go on sale at 11am (local time) on Friday the 16th. Live Nation pre-sale is on Thursday the 15th of December at 11am, if you want to get in early.

Indonesia’s Deputy Law and Human Rights Minister Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej has made a statement regarding Bali’s so-called ‘bonk ban,’ putting foreign tourists’ minds at ease, and encouraging them to still come to Indonesia.
Indonesia’s parliament recently passed a law approving jail time (of one year) for anyone caught having sex outside of wedlock. Unmarried couples living together can also be flung in prison for six months, according to the new legislation. The new laws, which are set to come into effect in 3 years (but could still face legal challenges), have many tourists worried.
RELATED: Woman Divides Opinion With Astonishing Scooter Act In Bali
It also has tourism providers worried, with 6.28 million foreign tourists arriving to Bali in 2019 (this number fell off a cliff in 2020, and since 2021 has been steadily increasing). Put simply: tourism is a huge part of the Balinese economy.

Indonesia’s Deputy Law and Human Rights Minister Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej on Monday tried to put those concerns to bed, saying foreigners will not be prosecuted (even if the laws technically apply to everyone).
“I want to emphasise for foreign tourists, please come to Indonesia because you will not be charged with this article,” Mr Hiariej said.
RELATED: ‘Stop Deifying Tourists’: Bali Urged To Make Big Change
The BBC reports: “While the law would technically apply to locals and foreigners, officials have tried to play down fears of tourists being prosecuted.”

Bali Governor Wayan Koster said: “Bali is Bali as usual, which is comfortable and safe to be visited.”
Koster also said tourists won’t have to prove their marital status when checking into accommodation. Officials have also pointed out that offences against the new law would only be prosecuted if reported by a spouse, parent or child. This makes it highly unlikely foreign tourists will be affected.
Still, the fact people are even talking about it is likely to put at least a little bit of doubt into a lot of people’s minds.

A man has revealed what it’s like to take a 13-hour budget flight to Europe with Scoot. The video of his experience, which he posted to TikTok, showed all the challenges, and how he survived.
When you book a flight with Scoot it’s typically for a short-haul flight. But one madman has recently given a 13-hour flight to Berlin a whirl, posting a video of his experience to TikTok, jokingly captioning it “landed with arthritis.”
The video begins with @ichoosemaximilian explaining how he was going to Berlin for a concert, and Scoot was the only airline he could find that would fly there directly. He began with a positive saying “the plane was kept rather clean,” “legroom was decent” and “we couldn’t wait to sleep.”
WATCH: Inside a 13 hour Scoot flight
Things got worse from there though, with @ichoosemaximilian pointing out: “spoiler: we couldn’t [sleep].”
“As Scoot is a budget airline we brought neck pillows to survive.”
“We took off an hour late and started to binge our downloaded shows – a must have since Scoot does not have in flight entertainment. Managed to sleep about three hours on and off as a toddler in front of us kept screaming and crying but the empty middle seat we had was really a saving grace.”
“2 hours before we landed we got our $17 laksa meal which was so damn good, but so damn small. You can see this disappointment on my face. We finally landed after what seemed like forever. Overall thoughts… meh.”
@ichoosemaximilian
Some people came to Scoot’s defence in the comments, calling out @ichoosemaximilian for choosing the cheapest option and then complaining about it. One wrote: “Low-cost budget airline so can’t expect much.” Another said: “Scoot is pretty decent compared to other budget airlines.”
Yet another shared a story of their own, explaining: “I did scoot from Gatwick to Bangkok it was slightly traumatizing.”
Not everyone thought Scoot is terrible though. One TikTok user said that Scoot wasn’t all that different from Singapore Airlines. They commented: “I’ve tried scoot to europe and SQ economy back. Almost the same but no entertainment and food etc. Same type of plane and same leg room.”
Another asked why @ichoosemaximilian didn’t book a quiet section. They wrote: “I thought scoot got ScootinSilence? I always book that cause no kids under 12 is allowed there.”
Another asked if it was really that cheap, saying: “I’ve seen Scoot return tickets to Berlin costs $1k+ which I think is better spent on full-fledged airlines despite with layovers.”
Scoot’s standard economy seats on their Boeing 787 Dreamliners have a pitch of 31″ and a width of 18″. On their Airbus 320s they have a pitch of 28″ and a width of 20.5 inches. Scoot claims: “It’s more roomy than other low-cost carriers and comparable to full-service airlines!”
There are also super seats, and stretch seats, though these cost a little more.

Most watch fans are aware that watch crime is on the rise in the British capital… But one luxury watch shopper has shown the extreme lengths that some watch brands are making customers go to in order to prevent thefts.
The customer in question, who had visited a London watch boutique to pick up his new Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time (ref. 7234R-001) – a watch that retails for AU$70,250 – shared a video to social media that says a lot about how bad things have got in London Town when it comes to watch crime.
In short: the boutique “[made him] walk out the shop with” a Whole Foods paper bag in which to hide his Patek Philippe bag. “That’s what we’ve got to do to protect ourselves,” the buyer commiserates.
Imagine buying a $70k watch just to walk out the store with a 30c bag…
WATCH how the Patek swindle is done below.
While it’s a clever idea, it’s demonstrative of how bad watch crime has got in London… Although it might not have been the smartest move to share the deception on social media. Now the thieves know what’s going on…
RELATED: The Rock Owns Up To ‘Watch Crime’ In Classiest Way Possible
According to data from London’s Metropolitan Police, there was a 60% increase in watch theft between May and June this year alone. Crime has steadily been on the rise in London since 2015 (as Statista demonstrates) – with the crime rate briefly falling over 2020/21 during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic only to pick back up this year.
Social media accounts like @watch_crime_ldn and @stolen_watch_group are documenting how almost daily, there are brazen and violent watch thefts in London – many of which are carried out by pairs of thieves on mopeds, which seems to be the modus operandi du jour, to mix our languages.

The federal government has just announced that they’re halving the number of subsidised visits to psychologists, in a move that’s sure to have huge consequences for both psychologists and their patients.
For many years, Australians were able to claim Medicare rebates for 10 visits to a psychologist every calendar year – after visiting a GP and creating a mental health treatment plan – under the Better Access program. (When Better Access was first introduced in 2006, the scheme initially provided 12 visits per year, but in 2011 that was reduced to 10 visits.)
In August 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Morrison Government temporarily doubled the number of subsidised visits to 20 a year, in order to combat the mental health crisis that the pandemic brought along with it. Now the Albanese Government wants to take us back to 10 visits.
Health Minister Mark Butler says that while people definitely took advantage of the extra visits, they were predominantly used by existing patients and not new patients, which is really who the extra visits were trying to target:
“Those additional 10 [visits] aggravated existing wait lists and aggravated barriers to access, particularly by people in rural and low socio-economic areas… The number of new patients who were able to get into the system and get access to psychology services actually declined by 7%.”
Mark Butler
Just last week, the Australian Psychological Society (APS) again called for the additional visits to become permanent, ABC News reports.
“The APS position is that these sessions should be a permanent feature of the Better Access program,” it said in a statement… We maintain this position and will continue to advocate for it,” the association said in a statement.

We understand the government’s rationale for halving the subsidised visits. At a time when the health system (particularly hospitals) is under immense strain, every dollar helps. Not only were the extra visits just helping existing patients effectively double-dip when it came to Medicare, but in actually discouraging new patients from accessing help, you could argue that it was completely counter-productive.
RELATED: Grim Statistic Proves Australia Needs Better Mental Health Education
Yet we can’t help but feel that doing away with the 20 entirely isn’t necessarily the right move.
The reality is that mental health care, even with 20 visits subsidised, is incredibly expensive in this country. Too often, getting quality mental health care is a case of the haves and have-nots: you can’t blame existing patients for trying to save money when visiting a psychologist is so expensive.
As we head into 2023, with lockdowns and social distancing mostly a thing of the past, it could be argued that some of the biggest contributors to our collective mental ill-health are gone. But COVID is still very much a thing – more to the point, many of us are still grappling with the same mental health issues that the pandemic created or exacerbated. Those issues haven’t gone away just because we’re not stuck in 5km bubbles anymore.
More to come.
