With electric cars becoming more and more mainstream, it seems the next frontier when it comes to electrification is electric trucks and off-roaders.Predictably, there’s a huge degree of anticipation for Tesla’s forthcoming Cybertruck. General Motors is reviving the Hummer brand as a 4×4 EV, much to the automotive community’s surprise. Ford just revealed the F-150 Lightning to much fanfare. Even Jeep is electrifying some of its models…Rivian is another major player in this space. Founded in 2009 by Robert “RJ” Scaringe, who graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a doctorate in mechanical engineering, Rivian is focused almost exclusively on making rugged 4×4 EVs designed for camping and other adventures.Their R1T pickup is perhaps their most exciting vehicle. With over 482kms of range, 35cm of ground clearance and a 0-100km/h time of under 3 seconds (depending on your tyre choice), the R1T is exciting, with hundreds of buyers already having put deposits down for the forthcoming beast.RELATED: China’s ‘People’s Tesla’ Overtakes Elon’s Model 3 As Best Selling Electric CarBut the really exciting thing about the R1T is its practicality – especially where camping is concerned. The ute boasts a huge ‘gear tunnel’ under the rear seats which can store a number of different modules, including a ‘Camp Kitchen’ module that looks to be a game-changer.Scaringe took to social media last week to show off this new module alongside Rivian lead engineer Rachael Jewkes. If you’re anything like us, this is absolutely jaw-dropping, and would get even the most outdoor-hating curmudgeon to reconsider their stance on camping.
See how the Rivian R1T’s incredible ‘Camp Kitchen’ works
It’s truly a masterstroke. No need to carry around gas canisters, firewood or a generator; easy clean-up, extra space for gear… The Camp Kitchen module also comes with a 30-piece Snow Peak kitchen set, which is pretty bougie – you could truly whip up a feast. Filet mignon in Yellowstone, anyone? What’s really exciting is the possibility of other modules being offered for the R1T.“Would love to see a water sport module for rinsing and storing wetsuits and dive/surf gear,” one fan commented on Scaringe’s Instagram, which is actually a brilliant idea.In any case, it’s a really novel use of space as well as an EV’s battery capacity. It just goes to show how versatile modern EVs are becoming – and a powerful retort to brodozer-driving dinosaurs who reckon EVs aren’t practical for off-roading. It’s also seriously put the Cybertruck on notice…RELATED: I Jumped Onboard 2021’s Most Cliché Travel Trend. It Was A Complete DisasterThis configuration of the R1T is available now for pre-order with prices starting at US$73,000 and deliveries beginning January 2022. Sadly, it’s only available in North American right now… Hopefully Rivian offer a RHD version in the future.

Dress shirt fabrics are something a tailor or shirtmaker should have a handle on, not us regular gents, right? Wrong.
Understanding the cotton weave of the common dress shirt, considering most of us buy our shirts off-the-rack (and wear them to work five days a week), is incredibly important.
Sure, we study the fit, colour and even the shirt collar type when shopping for our button-up. Some go as far as checking the label for the quality shirt ingredients. So, we’re educated enough to know cotton is best. But, does it get more complicated than that? It does.
Which is why we’re taking a closer look at dress shirt weaves. You might know them as ‘poplin’, ’twill’ or ‘oxford’, but these cotton weaves are more than a name, they play a major role in how and when you wear the shirt to get the most out of them.
In This Story…
What Is Dress Shirt Weave

The weave is the way in which the threads of cotton (called warp and weft) are actually put together to make a fabric. The weave not only affects the way a shirt looks and feels, but also how warm the fabric will be, the way it drapes, how easy it is to iron, and sometimes, where and when it should be worn.
Thread Count
A higher thread count generally means a smoother, silkier, more expensive fabric. Like suits, the thread count is referenced with a number such as 50s, 80s, 100s, 120s, 140s, 170s and so on, up to 330s. The number refers to the yarn size, but generally a thread count above 100 will imply a 2-ply fabric.
Two Ply vs. Single Ply
Though there are some exceptions where very fine single ply yarns are used, the higher number thread counts will be comprised of two yarns twisted together. For example, 120’s thread count means that two 60’s yarns are twisted together. This fabric will be more durable than a 60’s single ply, but it won’t always be smoother. 140’s thread counts are typically two 70’s yarns twisted together. And so on.
Thread count and the ply are good indicators of shirt quality. But remember, like most craftsmanship, the mill or manufacturer and quality of ingredients (namely, cotton) have a big impact on just how luxurious the fabric, and therefore, the shirt is.
Below is your gentlemen’s guide to dress shirt weaves, as well as how and when to wear them.
Dress Shirt Weave Types

Now that you know what a shirt weave is, it’s time to take a look at the types of weave and how each one differs depending on the wearer’s requirements. There’s nothing worse than wearing a weave designed to keep you warm…on a scorcher day. So pay attention.
Twill vs Poplin
The main difference between poplin and twill fabrics lies in their thickness. Poplin is slightly thinner than twill, making it a perfect shirt fabric for warmer months, while twill is thicker, so you may sweat more. Twill does, however, in our opinion, look much better than poplin.
Poplin

Poplin (aka broadcloth) is a cotton weave made by closely-woven threads that form a criss-cross pattern. Poplin, despite its strength, is thin, lightweight and cool, marked by a smooth finish. It makes for a great summer work shirt as it has very little sheen, which makes it nice and professional. And they’re great for a little texture too.
For work, a poplin shirt is ideal as an undershirt with a smart two-piece suit, no sweat. But beware, their thin weave means white varieties can be a touch transparent.
Twill

Twill is a durable cotton fabric that has a softer feel than poplin and is slightly more sheeny. Twill fabrics weave twin horizontal threads under and over vertical threads to create a diagonal pattern. This creates interesting ‘patterns’ in the shirt such as herringbone, houndstooth or diagonal rib print (we’ll elaborate later on).
Overall, twill is soft and thick, crease-resistant and iron-proof. It drapes well, so it’s the perfect ‘get-things-done’ work shirt, but with a smart finish.
Oxford

The oxford cotton fabric is known as a basket weave where multiple weft threads are crossed over an equal number of warp threads. Usually, one single-colour thread it crossed with white to give the oxford its signature checkerboard appearance.
It’s a versatile fabric that can be worn off or on-duty but is most popular in casual shirts; a button-down with no tie and jeans on the weekend. However, the shirt can be worn to the office if the cut and finish are professional. Or for a more relaxed business environment. And its thickness makes it perfect to wear on cooler days.
End-on-End

End-on-end shirt fabrics are made with a gently textured weave comprised of two or more colours resulting in a dual-tone finish. The double colour isn’t evident, looking more like a unified colour from afar. But the detail is in the close-up, where a mini-pattern can be seen for a unique finish.
End-on-end shirts are also lightweight and crisp to the hand, so they’re perfect for warmer days – worn solo, or under a light cotton suit. They’re a superb weekend shirt.
Pinpoint

Pinpoint has the same weave as the oxford but uses much a finer yarn and tighter weave. In terms of formality, pinpoint sits nicely between the casual oxford cloth and the classy poplin or twill.
They are thick and durable which can take away from their elegance. So, these shirts are perfect everyday work tops, but not ideal for special events.
Dobby

The dobby is considered a posh because its weave is much like jacquard; a unique geometric pattern that look and feels raised touch. A special loom raises and lowers the warp threads individually, allowing the weaver to create the dobby’s special patterns.
The best part? Not all dobby fabrics look the same, coming in a variety of patterns, colours, weights and hand feels to meet your style and dress code needs.
Herringbone

Herringbone shirts are recognised for their resemblance to the v-shape bones of the herring fish. The fabric is textured and is essentially a twill that is mirrored when woven to create the sort of chevron pattern.
Herringbone weaves tend to be slightly heavier in weight, and are more often found in seasonal shirting fabrics for cold weather. Add under a tweed jacket for a play on texture and apply a silk-knit tie. There are so many contrast capabilities with Herringbone. Go wild.
Shirt Fabrics FAQ
Thread count and ply are the best indicators of shirt quality. It is also important to note that the manufacturer and quality of ingredients have a huge impact on how good the shirt will turn out to be. Yes. Poplins are thin, so they are great for summer shirts. They are also the best choice for shirts that are meant to be worn underneath blazers or jacket. Yes. Herringbone weaves are mostly used for formal attires and black-tie events. Most herringbone-patterned fabrics are wool and they are popular cloths used for suits and outerwear. What are indicators of shirt quality?

Who doesn’t love a stiff drink after work or at the weekend when out with friends? For Australian men who would rather have a schooner of Carlton Draught, there can be a certain stigma surrounding cocktails: “they’re a girly drink”. No. They’re not. Cocktails by their very nature are meant to taste delicious while hiding the burn-in-the-back-of-your-throat taste of the alcohol, perfect (and dangerous) for getting you suitably tipsy. An absolute classic cocktail for both men and women is the Negroni. Made from just three ingredients, this seductively red cocktail is made to be sipped and savoured, a perfect after-dinner tipple, or even before – by its very nature, the Negroni is an Apéritif, meaning it can be served before or after a meal – and besides, who’s to judge? But where did it come from and how the hell do you make your own sh*t-hot one? Allow us to explain all.
Origin Of The Negroni
The exact origins of the Negroni cocktail are surprisingly unknown. It’s believed to have originated in Florence, Italy (or at least, the earliest account of it) in 1919 at Caffè Casoni. The cafe was eventually taken over by fashion label Roberto Cavalli, which turned it into a boutique store and moved the cafe (under its ownership) one door down. The drink is said to have been born out of a request from Count Camillo Negroni, who asked then-bartender Fosco Scarselli to take an Americano cocktail (Campari, sweet vermouth and soda water) and make it stronger by substituting the soda for gin (what else?). Scarselli, using his bartender nouse, switched out the traditional lemon garnish for orange, mainly to help identify it as a different drink.Safe to say, the Count loved what he drank and as a family business, founded the Negroni Distillerie in Treviso, Italy, where it produced ready-to-drink versions of the cocktail.Since then the popularity of the Negroni has soared, to the point where virtually every bartender worth his salt will know how to make one. Negronis are so popular in fact, that they have an entire week dedicated to them.Negroni Week launched in 2013 as a charitable cause and now receives support from tens of thousands of bars around the world. Supporting bars make their own variations of the classic cocktail available for customers, with a portion of the proceeds going to their chosen partner charity. It is usually held in June, but in the wake of the pandemic in 2020, will be held from September 14th – 20th.
Negroni Ingredients
No matter where in the world you order a Negroni, it will always consist of just three ingredients.
- Gin (Hendricks, Boodles or Tanqueray London Dry Gin are our preferred choices)
- Sweet vermouth (Antica Formula, Punt e Mes or Martini & Rossi are good starters)
- Campari
- One fresh orange for garnishing
- Large ice cube tray or ice sphere mould
- Rocks glass – the more decorated, the more entitled you are
These three spirits are easy to source, so making your own at home will be a piece of cake.
Classic Negroni Recipe Measurements
The classic recipe for a Negroni calls for equal measurements of each ingredient:
- 30ml/1oz Gin
- 30ml/1oz Sweet Vermouth
- 30ml/1oz Campari
You can adjust the measurements of these ingredients if 30ml puts Tom Selleck levels of hair on your chest, going down to 20ml or 25ml, just as long as they’re all equal parts.
How To Make The Negroni
To make one in a traditional manner you will need a cocktail stirring spoon and a cocktail mixing glass or stainless steel container. You will also need lots of ice and orange to garnish.
- Pour the three ingredients into a cocktail mixing glass or stainless steel container
- Add lots of ice. The Negroni is a drink best served cold.
- Stir with stirring spoon until chilled – some bartenders will argue there is a ‘perfect’ number of stirs. 15-20 should be plenty.
- Strain into a rocks glass over large ice cubes or an ice sphere.
- Take a knife or peeler and slice off a thin piece of orange rind, with as little of the white pith as possible.
- Rub the orange peel around the edge of the rocks glass, twist and drop into Negroni.
- Sip and enjoy.
Hollywood actor Stanley Tucci has previously shown the world his way of making a Negroni, which involves shaking, not stirring. While he received some support for this, the majority of the cocktail world was left quite literally shaken in disbelief. If you want to drink a traditional Negroni, steer well clear of shaking as it will dilute the Negroni cocktail too much.

Expert Twist On The Negroni
With the Negroni following such a strict recipe for many years, you may think to change the way it’s made, both the ingredients used would be nigh-on impossible. Wrong. Hayley Dixon, Tequila Specialist at Proximo has given us a slight variation on the traditional recipe, that has our tastebuds singing.“For the Negroni twist I thought I would take the year 1919 and keep rolling with it. The Negroni paved the way for many cocktails including the ‘Left Hand’ made with Bourbon and the ‘Right Hand’ made with Rum in place of the gin and with the addition of Chocolate Bitters that was created in 2007 at Milk & Honey in New York.”“For this twist, I have taken Angostura 1919 Rum and made it the hero and introduced Amaro Di Angostura in replacement of bitters to help bring all the ingredients together.”
‘1919 Negroni’
Ingredients
- 30ml Angostura 1919 Rum
- 20ml Campari
- 20ml Sweet Vermouth
- 10ml Amaro Di Angostura
- Lemon Twist Garnish
Method
- If you have some large ice cube moulds make sure you get them in the freezer in advance, large ice is best for this one
- Get your Coupe Glass or Nick & Nora Glass and put it in the freezer. This cocktail will be served up with no ice so it is best to have your glassware as cold as possible
- Grab your Mixing Glass, Barspoon, Strainer and Jigger or another measuring device
- Measure all your ingredients into a Mixing Glass, a large glass or into one half of a cocktail tin
- Cut your lemon twist, ensuring you remove as much pith as possible from the zest
- Add ice to your mixing glass and stir your cocktail down for approximately 45 seconds. Keep tasting as you go. The idea is to get your drink as cold as possible and to start introducing dilution. If you feel the cocktail still tastes a little ‘boozy’ keep on stirring
- Once your cocktail is nice and cold, get your glass out of the freezer and strain your cocktail into the glass straight away
- Garnish with your lemon twist by expressing the lemon oil from the peel over the top of the drink and then dropping the twist in
How To Drink A Negroni
Because of its ingredients, the Negroni is very much on the bitter side of the tasting palette. It won’t be to everyone’s taste, at least on the first try. If you shiver with disgust on your first sip, don’t be put off. As with wines, there are plenty of taste variations to try, so there could well be a Negroni recipe that you like. You just need to try one a few more times to really understand it as a drink and to make a definitive decision whether it’s for you or not.Experimenting with different gins and sweet vermouth combinations will have big effects on the taste. It can get expensive, but the investment to find the perfect Negroni for you will be worth it. In general, you’ll want to keep the Campari as a constant ingredient, although you can switch it out for Aperol or something like Poor Toms Imbroglio. You can play around with the garnish too. If you’re using an orange peel, trying holding a match underneath it (the pith side) before twisting and dropping into the Negroni. The added heat will release even more of the flavourful oils. Alternatively, you can use a slide of orange instead, as it was the garnish used in the very first recorded Negroni.https://www.instagram.com/p/CATHHRuK8uS/Once you have found the recipe that works for you, the Negroni is best drunk while wearing your best French Riveria outfit: white chinos, a blue blazer – unstructured, of course – boat shoes and a Fedora. If you need some style inspiration, just take one look at Alexander Kraft.

When the news of United Airlines’ plans to re-enter the supersonic passenger jet game broke earlier this month, aviation fans were beside themselves. It’s like the Concorde’s coming back! While it’s nice to have some good news after a very tough two years for air travel, it also raises a lot of questions. The Concorde was discontinued because it was so expensive to run, and with the spectre of COVID-19 likely to hang around the aviation industry for years to come, how on earth are United going to make international supersonic travel viable?Well, we might already have the answer – we just need to look back at what Air France was doing in the 90s.

Back pain is something we’re almost all guaranteed to experience at some point, with Health Direct claiming 1 in 6 Australians reporting having back problems, and 4 out of 5 experiencing some back-related issues in their lives. There are many causes to back pain, with the vast majority being classified as “non-specific back pain”, meaning the issues aren’t caused by any particular condition (or the sufferer never gets to the bottom of it).
Instead, the most likely cause of back pain isn’t anything to do with the bone structure of your spine, but rather the muscles and ligaments that surround it. Pain caused by these muscles can be brought on by lifting weights that are too heavy in the gym, picking up a heavy load from the floor the wrong way, sitting down for too long, or the highly common cause of poor posture.
Many of us are guilty of poor posture. We either slouch in our chairs or don’t stand up straight while walking, for example, which when performed consistently over many years, will exert extra pressure on your back muscles. If they’re not strong enough to support the heavy load your poor posture provides, you’ll end up with a back back.

One simple test you can do to see how good or bad your posture is, was recently posted to Instagram account @spreadwhealth. While the video focuses more on shoulder mobility, that very mobility (or the lack of it) could also be affecting your back.
The video paints an incredibly clear picture of how we can all be susceptible to poor posture. The video is presented by Andrew Dettelbach, one of the founders of W Health. Andrew can speak from much experience, having suffered from a 10mm herniation – also known as a slipped disc – at his L4/L5 disc, the two lowest vertebrae of the lumbar spine and the area given the most responsibility for supporting the upper body.
Following a bout of depression, Andrew began to train his body in ways that felt comfortable, didn’t affect his back injury, and which also provided benefit. It’s this gained knowledge that makes him claim to be a reputable source for counter-acting common ailments such as lower back pain.
Though we’d recommend you see a physio rather than rely on internet inspirational figures for all your ailments, his test is certainly worth doing to check your shoulder mobility.
The initial test is to have you back against the wall and to move your arm up, so that you can see how good the range of motion of your shoulder is. However, as the video show, Josh, the guinea pig in this scenario, flares his ribs – and mid-back – and bends his elbow to compensate, so that he can get his shoulder above his head. Andrew explains how the body should be positioned correctly: bra strap against the wall, shoulder blades against the wall and ribs in. This positioning provides your actual max range of motion.
View this post on Instagram
Andrew explains that because Josh has been flaring his ribs out when he pushes overhead, even with weights, his core isn’t at its most stable and so is “inefficient”. It’s also placing more pressure on the back muscles than is necessary, in order to lift the weight above the head.
“The core isn’t turning off necessarily, it’s just inefficient. It’s not in the best position it could be. You’re going to be able to drive more weight overhead when you’re stacked with a natural pelvis.”
“When [Josh] is lifting weight overhead, which is usually about 10lbs, he’s going to be compressing some things in the spine, rather than using this whole cylinder as your base.”
He further claims that you don’t necessarily need to walk around in life with such a solid posture, but when you’re exercising, it’s incredibly important. A good cue to help you ensure you’re as straight and stable as possible, is to imagine there is a puppet string above your head, pulling you upwards. Standing this way can help to reduce the amount of curvature in the thoracic spine (the upper back) and excessive curvature can induce a condition known as kyphosis.
In order to help improve your posture and subsequently eliminate back pain, you should always perform stretches before exercising – and even walking – and there’s certainly no harm in simply stretching each day, even if you don’t plan to work out. Stretching helps to engage and prime your muscles, allowing them to strengthen through everyday tasks, such as walking.
So, perform the simple shoulder mobility test, stretch and you could be saying bye-bye to mystery back pain in no time. Now it’s ‘explainable’…

We might be in the middle of a pandemic but the Australian luxury watch retail space is heating up in a big way.
At the end of last year, Rolex opened a stunning new boutique in Sydney – their largest in the Southern Hemisphere. Other brands have been re-opening their doors and experimenting with interesting activations, such as Blancpain’s rare vintage dive watch exhibition in April.
Now, Rolex’s sister brand Tudor is getting in on the action. Teaming up with leading luxury retailer The Hour Glass, Tudor has pulled the curtains off a brand-spanking-new boutique in Melbourne – Australia’s very first standalone Tudor boutique and a new must-visit destination for Antipodean watch fans.
“We’re delighted to be opening the first Tudor boutique in Australia and New Zealand. Located in the heart of Melbourne’s luxury shopping precinct on Collins Street, the new Tudor boutique offers watch enthusiasts an immersive look into one of the most exciting brands in contemporary watchmaking,” The Hour Glass Managing Director Michael Tay relates.

Occupying the ground floor of Emirates House, the Tudor boutique exemplifies the sporty yet luxurious nature of the brand. Black and red feature prominently, a reflection of the brand’s signature colours, yet touches of wood and plenty of natural light make it modern, slick and inviting.
A distinct photo wall featuring historic photographs of the British North Greenland Expedition and the frogmen of the French Navy reflects Tudor’s rich history – with images of modern Tudor ambassadors David Beckham and Lady Gaga emblematic of the brand’s continued contemporary relevance.
RELATED: David Beckham’s New ‘People’s Rolex’ Is A Walk On The Dark Side

In many ways, this boutique opening is a long time coming. Tudor has always been particularly successful in Australia – during the brand’s financial troubles in the 90s, Tudor was forced to pull out of many overseas markets, but its popularity in Australia helped keep the heritage brand afloat globally.
Rolex’s new boutique in Sydney and Tudor’s new boutique in Melbourne constitute a real one-two punch when it comes to the horological landscape Down Under. No doubt, other brands will be put on notice – it’s definitely raised the stakes.
RELATED: Lavish Chinese Watch Show Has The World Seeing Red
The boutique’s opening also nicely coincides with the reveal of the new Black Bay Fifty-Eight Bronze, which is a boutique-only, rather striking edition of Tudor’s most popular model.

This eclectic rendition of the famous dive watch follows up from the pair of precious metal models Tudor unveiled at Watches & Wonders earlier this year: the Black Bay Fifty-Eight 18K, constructed from yellow gold; and the Black Bay Fifty-Eight 925, constructed from sterling silver. Now we’ve got the whole podium, just in time for the Olympics!
RELATED: Tudor Unveils What Can Only Be Described As ‘The People’s Rolex Daytona’
Bronze, of course, is a rather interesting material to make a dive watch out of, as bronze is highly reactive than steel and develops a patina very quickly – particularly when exposed to saltwater.
But that’s entirely by design: the idea is that the Black Bay Fifty-Eight Bronze will tarnish quickly and distinctively, meaning your watch is entirely unique. Bronze is also a material that is historically associated with ocean-going; an essential part of Tudor’s brand identity.
If you’re interested in finding out more about this boutique-exclusive Black Bay – or you just want to check out Australia’s first Tudor boutique more generally – you can find it on Google Maps here.

Forget community spirit or health concerns, the number one reason most Australians want to get the COVID vaccine is overseas travel.
That’s according to a recent study conducted by Luxury Escapes, one of Australia’s fastest-growing travel companies.
Released on the 20th June 2021, Luxury Escapes shared that after almost eighteen months of being grounded, Australians are itching to stamp passports again.
But with few Australians having natural immunity to COVID19, “vaccinations remain essential to borders opening and quarantine-free international travel resuming,” Luxury Escapes explains.
On that note: 80% of Australians said that overseas travel was their number one reason for getting vaccinated in Luxury Escapes’ survey – something which used to just be a meme…
View this post on Instagram
Once vaccinated, 87% of Australians say they would like to travel overseas, with 83% saying they believe vaccination is important in order for this to happen, the survey found.
When it comes to the top destinations bouncing around our brains, it turns out Aussies are pining for the UK, followed by Bali and then Singapore, Luxury Escapes says.
To encourage Australians to get vaccinated, Luxury Escapes has also announced it will give away $200 million in travel vouchers, with $200 going to each of the first one million Australians who start their Covid-19 vaccination program prior to 30 September.
Adam Schwab, Co-founder and CEO at Luxury Escapes says “Australians are among the keenest travellers in the world, exploring the globe is in our DNA. The fact that our customers have been unable to get out there and do what they do best, is something many of us are really missing in our lives.”
The company also hopes to spark a trend. As Schwab added: “At Luxury Escapes, we recognise the crucial role the vaccines will play in ensuring borders open so Aussies can travel again. We hope that giving away $200 million in incentives to Australians who are getting vaccinated will give our vaccine roll out a massive boost and inspire other businesses to follow suit”.
This comes as various Australian cities, in the last week, have once again being plunged into lockdowns the likes of which many of us haven’t seen since March last year.
If this has a silver lining, it will be that it convinces the vaccine-hesitant to have another sober look at the pros and cons of getting the jab. Something which coincides nicely with the government’s recent announcement that any adult under the age of 40 can now approach their GP and request the AstraZeneca vaccine.

We’re surrounded by conflicting messages when it comes to finding love in 2021.From one side we’re told we don’t need it – loving yourself is the answer (and more likely to make you more attractive to potential suitors). On the other, we are led to believe success is one giant Ferris wheel of casual sex; that marriage and monogamy are outdated. Then there’s the third side – commitment and loyalty – which sometimes gets overlooked as it’s not so flashy. We’re not here to judge which of those three suits you best. But a recent viral image of Pierce Brosnan is here to remind you that the third is still an option.

Posted recently to Instagram account @original_news as well as a host more news outlets, aggregators and social media pages, the image shows Pierce Brosnan and his wife Keely Shaye Smith in a classic ‘then and now’ comparison.Brosnan and Shaye Smith got married in 2001 – 20 years ago. Brosnan is now 68; Shaye Smith is 57.Original News shared the image with their followers with the following caption:
“Pierce Brosnan, l’agente 007 e la modella Keely Shaye invecchiano insieme. Chili in più, calvizia, capelli bianchi. Loro hanno dimostrato che l’amore può tutto, anche più di quello fisico. Il fisico è temporaneo e l’amore è per sempre. Ricorda che come ti vedi, ti vedranno anche gli altri. Siate felici e non preoccupatevi per alcuni chili in più.”
“Pierce Brosnan, Agent 007 and model Keely Shaye grow old together. Extra pounds, baldness, white hair. They have shown that love can do everything, even more than physical. The physical is temporary and love is forever. Remember that as you see yourself, others will see you too. Be happy and don’t worry about a few extra pounds.”One commenter wrote: “Dovrebbe essere la.normalità ed invece fa notizia..che tristezza questo nuovo mondo.”“It should be the normality and instead it is news .. how sad this new world.”Another said: “La prima foto è molto bella, ma la seconda è meravigliosa.”“The first photo is very beautiful, but the second is marvellous.”The photo was also shared by Instagram account @freeda_en, which wrote: “We often hear people talking about growing old together, but what does it really mean? Of course, for everyone it can mean different things, but generally speaking growing old together means accepting each other as we are: whether that means a change in appearance or picking up new habits.”
“Moreover, any couple that grows old together knows that the way love and affection is shown changes from when we were younger. But, of course, this interpretation is different for every one and no two couples are the same. What we do know for sure is that we need to show respect for one another, as well as listen to each other’s needs.”
Similar comments appeared beneath this photo, too.Though some couldn’t believe their eyes (“really not the same people here,” Instagram user @mellow_ela_solo wrote) many others were inspired by this everyday insight – and sad it was deemed ‘unusual’ enough to make the news.“My mind is so influenced by weight loss or fitness success stories, that I thought at first it was an inverted before and after post. I sighed in relief when I saw that it was actually something meaningful,” Instagram user @vegan.gourmand wrote.“100% i was so skinny when i met my partner and lots of meds causing serious weight gain and 5 years later he still loves me just as much if not more,” wrote another.“This is love,” another user commented.Brosnan consistently updates his Instagram with glimpses of his marriage.
