18 Best Tank Tops For Men For Cool & Comfortable Workouts

If there’s a piece of men’s clothing that could be considered underrated, it’s the tank top. While many of us may associate tank tops with gym bros who wouldn’t physically fit into a t-shirt, the men’s tank top is actually an incredibly versatile piece of clothing that all men should get behind.

Yes, they’re incredibly useful to wear to the gym, as they can help promote greater movement in your upper body, along with offering greater airflow. But, they’re also a perfect summer staple and something that men should feel comfortable wearing even if their arms don’t exactly resemble Chris Hemsworth’s.

Men’s tank tops can also be used as a layering piece, being able to be worn underneath unbuttoned shirts, for example, making for a clean yet casual look that offers instant style points.

Fortunately, men’s clothing brands have realised the appeal of the tank top, and so you’ll now find numerous brands producing their own versions. There are slightly different styles of tank top, and this most usually relates to the width of the material over the shoulder and the size of the opening underneath the armpit. We’ll admit, the tight-fitting tank tops with small straps should probably best be avoided.

Men’s Tank Tops FAQs

What is considered a tank top?

A knitted piece of clothing, covering the upper part of the body that has no leaves. Usually, it has wide shoulder straps and no front opening.

Can you wear tank tops under t-shirts?

Yes. You can wear it under a t-shirt, especially in warm weather as it effectively absorbs chest and back sweat. Also, if your t-shirt is a little coarse, wearing a tank top underneath can help avoid chaffing.

Should tank tops be loose or tight fitting?

It depends on how you want to style it and the purpose for its use. If you want to primarily wear it as activewear, It should fall just below your belt loops and should be a little loose and billowy. It shouldn't be super tight, hugging the skin. However, if you want to wear a super fitted and snug tank purely in the name of fashion, go for it!

Top 3 Health Hacks That Actually Work, According To A Stanford Professor
Top 3 Health Hacks That Actually Work, According To A Stanford Professor

Thanks to social media, there’s an abundance of health tips and tricks that claim to get you in the best mental and physical health you can possibly be. But most of them are supported by evidence of dubious origin (usually anecdotal).

With that being said, when a neuroscientist who’s also a tenured professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the Stanford University School of Medicine posts health tips on their Instagram, it’s fair to say that the tips are legit.

Of course, we’re talking about Dr Andrew D. Huberman who recently took to both Twitter and Instagram to share his “top 3 science supported tools for mental and physical health.”

So, what are the tips?

A screenshot of Dr Huberman’s post.

The first is “morning sunlight viewing” which essentially means exposing yourself to direct sunlight first thing in the morning (not looking into the sun though: that could burn your retinas). Dr Huberman says this will help “set circadian rhythm” as well as your mood and ability to focus.

Secondly, Dr Huberman recommends that you spend a minimum of 3-3.5 hours doing moderate cardio per week for “cardiovascular health.”

The third health practice is Non-Sleep-Deep-Rest (NSDR), which involves either a type of meditation where you listen to a script, hypnosis or Yoga Nidra (a state between waking and sleeping, usually brought on by a guided meditation). Dr Huberman says that you should engage in NSDR for 10-30 minutes, 3-7 times a week. This will help with stress mitigation and cognition.

Dr Huberman explains that while there are lots of ways to support your health, doing these three things, in particular, daily is extremely beneficial.

“There are many excellent tools and practices to support mental and physical health and performance,” he says. “The top three listed here, however, have a lot of quality science to support them, are zero cost, and lead to outsized positive effects when performed regularly, ideally every day.”

“All three also indirectly support sleep which ultimately is the foundation of our ability to regulate our thinking and emotions, energy, physical recovery and possibly even longevity. So by doing these three things on a regular basis (daily is best), we support sleep as well.”

Dr Huberman

Many Instagram users commented on Dr Huberman’s post saying they’ve tried his recommended practices and are already seeing a difference, with one user writing, “I have tried all three and they make a huge difference in my energy level. Thanks for sharing science with us.”

Sustainable Sneaker Brands Perfect For The Eco-Conscious Man
Sustainable Sneaker Brands Perfect For The Eco-Conscious Man

Sneakers are a staple; a must-have for every wardrobe. They’re extremely comfortable and versatile, meaning they can be worn daily to almost any occasion, and have become incredibly fashionable; with many celebrities opting to walk red carpets in a pair of sneakers, and many of us expanding our sneaker collection to include a variety of styles and colours, such as crisp white, classic navy, and timeless black.

However, with climate change threatening our planet (and our very existence – eek!), it’s more imperative than ever to make more sustainable and ethical choices when it comes to fashion. This means buying less, and when you do buy, buying from sustainable sneaker brands that produce sneakers that’ll last for years and have been made with renewable and natural fabrics.

But it can be hard to know what brands to trust, as ‘sustainable’ has become a bit of a buzzword that many fashion brands are adapting into their vocabulary. Therefore, we’ve researched what brands are producing truly sustainable sneakers (that don’t compromise on style) and are dedicated to reducing their environmental impact in more ways than one.

Features of sustainable sneakers

Most sustainable sneakers are made from either natural materials (wool, organic cotton, leather off-cuts, etc.) or upcycled/recycled materials (plastic bottles, old sneakers, etc). The materials should have been sourced in a sustainable and ethical way, which is easy to find out as reputable and trustworthy sustainable sneaker brands are extremely transparent and will have this information on their sites.

Other features to look out for are whether the sneaker brand is dedicated to producing their sneakers in a way that’s low in terms of a carbon footprint, whether the brand offsets their carbon emissions, and whether the brand champions fair working conditions for their employees and factory workers.

Sustainable Sneakers FAQs

What does 'sustainable fashion' mean?

Sustainable fashion refers to a movement pushing for the entire fashion industry to move towards greater ecological integrity and social justice. By brands becoming more sustainable they are reducing their carbon footprint, and encourage other brands to do the same. Plus, most 'sustainable' brands advocate for factory workers to have better pay and working conditions.

19 Best Surfboard Brands 2022
19 Best Surfboard Brands 2022

Surfing is hard enough at the best of times. From the ‘one last wave’ curse (which inevitably results in you not being able to catch a wave for at least half an hour) to broken bones, banged up boards and leaky wetsuits, there’s a lot you have to put up with to get those broad shoulders and beaming tan.Surfing isn’t just about Eastern (suburbs) mysticism though. Sure: the old blokes may hark back to the days of uncrowded Bali sessions and the classic lines you can draw with a waterlogged single fin, but even the most stoic shred heads can’t deny there’s no better feeling than fresh fibreglass under your arm.But where there is ecstasy there is also peril. And we’re not talking about threading the needle at low tide Cape Solander: if you buy the wrong board, not only will you be $800 in the hole, you’ll also face such problems as your friends mocking you for not being able to catch a wave, bogging every second rail, and cursing the thing every time you put it in the car.Not to mention dealing with dickheads on Gumtree or Facebook Marketplace to offload it.In other words: picking the right surfboard is key to your performance, bank account, sanity and social status (among other, vital, things). When buying a surfboard there are a number of crucial factors to consider: length, thickness, volume, and brand.

Ideal Surfboard Length

Depending on which way you glide, you’ll want a longboard, midlength, fish, or shortboard. For more information on which one to pick, we’ve got a specific guide on learning to surf (and picking the perfect beginner’s board) here. For everyone else: length is determined by your style (if you want longer, more drawn out turns, get something longer, if you want something more wiggly, go shorter), personal preference and weight. Generally speaking, you’ll be looking at 9-11ft for a longboard (or gun), 6’6″ to 7’10” for a mid-length, 6’2″ to 7’2″ for a step up, 5’5″ to 6’5″ for a shortboard and 5’0 to 6’0″ for a fish.

Surfboard Thickness

The oldest cheat code to short boarding better is to buy something thinner and wider. This is because it will be stabler, paddle better (or equally as well), and you will catch less rail when turning (i.e you won’t bog so much). Of course, you can’t take it too far, or you simply won’t float, but thickness is one of the first places you should look to sacrifice when you progress in ability and are looking to cut down the size of your board (or perform more advanced manoeuvres), especially in small to medium waves. On the flip side, if you’re ordering a step up or gun, and are looking for a board that can handle going very fast in a straight line, with lots of projection, then you will be looking at something narrower, thicker, and less forgiving.

Surfboard Width

Generally, all longboards and fish surfboards will be quite wide and forgiving, while shortboards, step-ups and guns will be relatively narrow. The wider the board the more forgiving it will be for marginal conditions and marginal riders.

Volume

Though this isn’t the silver bullet many believe it is, it’s bloody useful (to the point where if you had to pick just one aspect of a board to go off when ordering, you’d pick volume). The more volume your board has the more buoyant it will be, and the easier it will be to catch waves. The less volume your board has the more manoeuvrable it will be, but the more difficult it will be to catch waves. This means more advanced surfers should order boards with less volume, and more inexperienced surfers should order boards with more volume.

Foul Mouthed Video Reveals The Secret To Becoming A New York Local
Foul Mouthed Video Reveals The Secret To Becoming A New York Local

There are more stereotypes about New York than you can throw a foul-mouthed Yankees supporter at. And one of the main ones is that New Yorkers are all short-tempered.

Speaking of which, actor, comedian, writer and impressionist Stefanie Yunger recently took to social media to say she is “slowly becoming a New Yorker.”

This came accompanied by a video, which shows the moment she realised she is starting to feel at home in The Big Apple. The video features Stefanie doing a piece to camera while walking in the street. She is interrupted by a guy walking past, who says “fuck off.”

She responds: “Shut the f**k up and eat a d***.”

“Love this city.”

The exchange appears to suggest a copping (and dishing out) a bit of verbal spray is a bit like a New Yorkers’ morning constitutional.

Also crucial, apparently, is the quick comeback. As one Instagram user wrote in the coments: “Congratulations, I dub you an official New Yawka Your comeback was so quick and effortless, without having skipped a beat. Awesome!”

We don’t know exactly how often New Yorkers tell each other to get f****d. But Yunger is far from the first person to perpetrate (alright, create comedy out of) this cliche.

Iconic publication The New Yorker itself last year shared some classic advice on how to look like a New York local – and there’s more to it than being an asshole.

RELATED: ‘Be An A**hole’: How To Make New Yorkers Think You’re A Local

They say that on arrival back in the city, you may take a photo through the plane window (if you must), but that you mustn’t add a cheesy caption. Instead write: “Back in hell.”

The New Yorker also suggests you add phrases like, “‘hello,’ ‘where is the bathroom?,’ ‘Can you fucking believe de Blasio?,’ ‘Can you fucking believe Adams?,’ and ‘Giuliani!!! Can you fucking BELIEVE HIM?!’” to your vocabulary.

Locals also always use the subway and Google Maps, according to The New Yorker.

“When in doubt, use Google Maps. Don’t worry, using Google Maps does not make you seem like a tourist. Even when I know where I’m going, I refresh Google Maps constantly. This is because I am incredibly high strung; what could possibly be more New York than that?”

Other habits you’re bound to pick up in New York are ordering loads of your meals via delivery apps, basing your dating life to an unhealthy degree around public transport, multitasking, carrying cash, and drinking from the tap.

How Far Australians Will Go For Cheap Petrol
How Far Australians Will Go For Cheap Petrol

A video posted to Instagram by Rashay’s (an Australian restaurant chain) owner Rami Ykmour shows just how silly petrol prices have become (and the lengths people are willing to go to, in order to score a cheaper price at the pump).

The video shows lines and lines of people queuing up for what was supposedly the cheapest petrol in Australia, at a petrol station in Auburn.

Rami can be heard questioning whether the drivers are really saving themselves that much, given how long they’re having to spend idling in the queue.

The petrol they were lining up for was $1.529 – a bargain compared to most petrol stations lately.

Prices have been wild lately. Image Credit: News Corp

At the time of writing, the national average for petrol (Unleaded 95) is $1.99 (down 2.8 per cent), according to drive.com.au. It’s been higher than that in recent weeks, however, having been over the $2 mark on various days.

The cheap petrol in the video might be explained by a cut in fuel excise, which the ACCC expects “will be passed on to consumers in full.”

9 News reports that “hundreds of petrol stations across New South Wales and the ACT have already slashed their prices after the federal government halved the fuel excise.”

9 News yesterday reported that 227 petrol stations “have cut their prices by at least 30 cents a litre over the past seven days.”

Let’s hope the trend continues.

It is often considered to be a delicate material that can’t withstand diverse climates and temperatures, however, there’s a list of high-end designers manufacturing suede boots that are stylish and protective; with some featuring waterproof and insulating properties.

Suede Boots FAQs

Do you have to break in suede boots?

Like you would with any other boots, suede shoes take a few wears to break them in. Initially, they will feel a little stiff and uncomfortable; but they typically take 80 to 100 hours to break in. Try walking around your house in your new suede boots a little every day for two weeks, and they'll be ready to go!

How do I take care of suede boots?

To properly care for suede boots, make sure you keep them out of direct sunlight so that they won’t fade. Invest in a water-resistant spray to ensure boots won’t get stained and brush boots occasionally to eliminate any excess dirt or dusk they may have accumulated.

Does water ruin suede boots?

Yes, water can definitely ruin suede boots. Though these boots won’t destroy immediately, they will begin to break down if exposed to water continuously. If you’re looking for a boot that can sustain wet weather conditions, definitely go with a suede material that’s waterproof.
