Being the sexiest man alive is both a blessing and a curse.
It’s a blessing because… Well, who wouldn’t want to be the sexiest man alive? That’s one hell of a title. But it’s also a curse, or perhaps more accurately, a responsibility. Uneasy is the head that wears a crown and all that.
If you want to keep that title, you need to do everything you can to protect yourself; keep yourself worthy of that lofty claim. You’ve got to dress well, speak well, stay fit and healthy – and make sure as many people as possible can take a glimpse of perfection. It’s your obligation to share that beauty with the world.
Thankfully, Michael B. Jordan – the current holder of the title as determined by People magazine – has proven himself to be worthy of the title. In a very generous move, the 34-year-old actor has been spotted on the streets of New York wearing a transparent face shield instead of a mask, so that his legions of fans can get full view of his beautiful, beautiful face. What a gent.
Okay, all jokes about the visor aside, his outfit is actually pretty dapper. It’s an eclectic mix of colours – brown, orange and blue – but he manages to pull it off with aplomb. Now this is how you do smart casual.
RELATED: How To Wear The ‘Smart Casual’ Dress Code For Men
But you can’t get away from how strange that face shield looks… While it’s certainly better than wearing no protection during These Trying Times, we can’t help but think that a surgical or cloth face mask would be a less intrusive, more effective form of PPE.
Indeed, a Japanese study conducted in September last year suggests that plastic face shields like the one Jordan’s wearing “are almost totally ineffective at trapping respiratory aerosols”, The Guardian reports.
So is Jordan genuinely wearing the face shield so that more people can see his handsome, handsome face? We’re not sure if that’s generous or foolish. The outfit’s crisp though so we’ll forgive him.

Let’s face it: there are a lot of reasons not to fly right now. From fluid border situations to heightened costs (not to mention travel shaming), it’s never been easier to stay at home. But there could now be a reason to get clicking again: the following business class seat. Introducing: JetBlue’s new Mint Studio offering, a gamechanger that turns into one of the largest beds in the skies.Passengers will find this massive bed on JetBlue’s much anticipated Airbus A321LR jets, which will go into service on JetBlue’s first transatlantic route between New York and London (slated to begin in a few month’s time). As CNN Travel reports, JetBlue’s new Mint Studio, “consists of two mini-rooms at the front of its newest planes, each with a comfortable seat that turns into its own fully flat bed behind a privacy door with an adjoining sofa.”
“Behind those come 22 Mint Suites, minus the adjoining sofa.”
Various design flexes add to the Mint Studio (and Mint Suite’s) enticement factor. They feature wireless charging, various power points, and space to watch videos on your tablet while eating.Even more enticing: according to CNN Travel, “if JetBlue stays true to form, the pricing for these new offerings will make it within reach of more travellers than ever.”The two Mint Studios will have bigger screens than the 22 Mint Suites behind them (a 22″ Thales AVANT seatback screen, to be precise) as well as an extra side table and a guest seat that can accommodate an extra customer during the flight (but not during takeoff and landing).Jet Blue claims the Mint Studios will have more space than any other US airline’s premium offering, and the largest lie-flat bed of any US carrier (the airline claims the Mint Studio beds are so big you can “starfish” on them).
View this post on Instagram
It remains to be seen if the Mint Studios’ bed is as wide as, say Singapore Airlines’ 30-inch wide business class bed (if it was we’re sure they would have announced it). But when it comes to the US market they certainly come up trumps. The Mint Suites aren’t too shabby either. Though they are smaller, they still feature wireless charging, more power points than you can throw an iPhone at, space to use your tablet while eating, a Tuft & Needle mattress, and an architect’s eye for detail.“Mint was an idea to make premium travel across the U.S. less stuffy and more affordable, and its performance has exceeded even our most optimistic expectations of going beyond New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco,” said Joanna Geraghty, president and chief operating officer, JetBlue, in a media release.
“It’s remarkable how Mint’s thoughtful design has resonated with customers as we successfully grew it to more than 30 routes. We put our heart into this redesign of Mint and were inspired by our original vision of offering customers an exceptional experience at a lower fare – which is what JetBlue is all about.”
As Forbes reports, the tasty details don’t end there: travellers should also be able to surf the airline’s free high-speed Wi-Fi in flight – this set up is designed for the ‘constantly connected’ traveller. Finally, “among the décor touches, which JetBlue refers to as ‘residential,’ will be flannel-covered privacy dividers, wood-grained table patterns, textured concrete lampshades, and mood lighting,” Forbes reports.“Although there is no word yet on pricing or exact launch dates for the new Mint, presumably this is JetBlue’s bid to disrupt the lucrative New York-London route business-heavy market, just as the airline did when it began flying Mint between New York and the West Coast several years ago,” (Forbes).
“While the introduction of a new all-suites business-class cabin might have by itself to do so, the prospect of relatively inexpensive fares makes this new all the more exciting.”
Some aviation writers have called the suites “hardly groundbreaking” and some Instagram commenters have claimed “every airline who ever had this got rid of it pretty quickly.” It looks tasty to us though. What fate lies JetBlue’s new offering? Only time (and ticket sales) will tell…

The watch industry is frequently criticised for being quite unsustainable. The reality is that the materials that go into watchmaking – precious metals, jewels, batteries – are often produced via extractive and environmentally damaging methods.Of course, watchmaking is nowhere near as wasteful as some other industries, and watch brands have made leaps and bounds in recent years in terms of minimising both their environmental and ethical impact. But there are some watchmakers that have gone above and beyond in their mission to make their creations more sustainable – and as consumers become more environmentally conscious, it’s these brands that are sure to reap the rewards. One particular problem the watch world has proven quite adept at facing has been the proliferation of ocean plastic. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, over 8 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans every year. Animals frequently ingest or are entangled by plastic debris, which causes severe injuries and deaths, and plastic pollution also threatens human health; food safety and quality; coastal tourism and recreation; and contributes to climate change. But plastic can be recycled – and that’s where watchmakers come in. Ocean plastic is a problem, but it’s also a resource: some forward-thinking watch brands are turning ocean plastic into designer accessories, killing two birds with one stone. The fascination with watches, as a watch fan, is that watches can tell a story – and what better story to tell than one about saving the planet?Let’s focus in on a few watch brands that are turning ocean plastic into stylish accessories.

Fiji. Vanuatu. Tonga .The Solomon Islands. Australians have been teased with all sorts of travel bubble rumours over the last 12 months. None have happened. Even New Zealand has proved futile (Kiwis are allowed to come to Australia, but we aren’t currently permitted to return the favour).
Though the government stance remains the same, and overseas travel is still banned for Australians, an announcement made by Qantas today may suggest some light is on the horizon.
“Flights to most international destinations to now resume late October 2021” Qantas announced this morning. In addition, “Trans-Tasman flying [is] to ramp up from July 2021.”
This also involves new flexibility for international bookings, with unlimited flight date changes.
“Qantas and Jetstar are now planning to restart regular international passenger flights to most destinations from 31 October 2021 – a four month extension from the previous estimate of July, which had been in place since mid-2020,” the airline announced.
“The date change aligns with the expected timeframe for Australia’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout to be effectively complete.”
“Capacity will be lower than pre-COVID levels, with frequencies and aircraft type deployed on each route in line with the projected recovery of international flying. International capacity is not expected to fully recover until 2024.”
“The Group remains in close consultation with the Federal Government around the reopening of international borders and will keep customers updated if further adjustments are required,” the media release added.
“Qantas is assessing the use of digital health pass apps to help support the resumption of COVID-safe international travel. The CommonPass and IATA Travel Pass smartphone apps are being trialled on the airline’s international repatriation flights.”
This comes in a context where Australian residents are raring to spread their wings (and scan their boarding passes) internationally once again. But could this announcement of intention by Qantas get undone?
Frequent flyer and owner of Flight Hacks, Immanuel Debeer, told DMARGE he has faith in the October date: “Yes I think it’s likely to happen in October. Once all the oldies are vaccinated the Australian government has zero excuse to keep us locked up.”
“The only spanner in the works is the fact that they’ve gone for a ‘zero covid’ approach. So although October is realistic, no doubt there will be a lot of restrictions in place. Doubt they will let tourists come in by then, unless they are from certain ‘green zone’ countries.”
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Qantas’ chief executive Alan Joyce has said he hopes Australia’s state borders will permanently open from April – once those most vulnerable to the coronavirus have been immunised.
“We’ve had very positive conversations this week with several premiers and chief ministers about how to restore confidence in borders.”
Qantas announced the following in regards to its network this morning:
Qantas Network
Qantas is planning to resume flights to 22 of its 25 pre-COVID international destinations including Los Angeles, London, Singapore and Johannesburg from 31 October 2021.
Qantas won’t initially resume direct flights to New York, Santiago and Osaka, but remains committed to flying to these three destinations. In the meantime, customers will be able to fly to these destinations under codeshare or oneworld arrangements with partner airlines.
Jetstar Network
Jetstar plans to resume flights to all of its 13 international destinations. Frequencies will be adjusted in line with the projected recovery of international flying.
Trans-Tasman
Qantas and Jetstar are planning for a significant increase in flights to and from New Zealand from 1 July 2021.
The Group has the ability to respond to travel bubbles that may open.
Additional flexibility and extension of credit vouchers
Qantas has today announced additional flexibility for international bookings to enable customers to book flights with confidence.
Qantas’ updated Fly Flexible policy (previously only available for domestic and Trans Tasman flights) now applies to international flights booked from today until at least the end of April 2021. The flight date can be changed to any available for sale at the time (up to 355 days in advance). Qantas will waive the change fee however a fare difference may apply.
Qantas has also extended credit vouchers to enable travel until 31 December 2023 on domestic or international flights, with Jetstar doing the same for vouchers issued due to COVID-19 disruptions.
Customers with international bookings impacted by cancellations will be contacted directly and offered alternatives.
Qantas also this morning announced an underlying loss before tax of $1.03 billion (see Qantas’ full half-year financial results here).

Pastel buildings. Electric blue waters. Vespas. Wine. Pasta. Bikinis. Boardshorts. Grottos. When you think of southern Italy, you probably envisage somewhere like The Amalfi Coast, Positano or Camogli. But there’s another side to the country’s south. One of rural charm, €2 houses, and hotels built inside abandoned buildings. These hotels, constructed amid medieval architecture, ghost towns and remote countryside, make for what CNN Travel has called “the ingredients for a horror movie.”They could also, CNN Travel reports, “actually be the recipe for the perfect Covid-era hotel.”
View this post on Instagram
First, the backstory: “since the 1990s, Italy has been pioneering a tourism model known as ‘albergo diffuso’ – or scattered hotel. These involve installing a full hotel into various buildings of a largely abandoned village.”
“Most of these centuries-old villages have suffered from depopulation as residents move to bigger cities in search of work – the same problem that has inspired many Italian villages to sell off homes for next to nothing.”
RELATED: Tiny Italian Village Flooded With Interest After Offering Houses For Bargain PricesIn response to this exodus, some entrepreneurs have been scooping up cheap properties, doing them up, and renting them out to tourists. This style of holiday could be increasingly popular as we come out of These Unprecedented Times.

“As travel begins to return with the prospect of a vaccine,” CNN Travel reports, “it’s likely that many tourists will still favor accommodation that offers the prospect of social distancing – which is where scattered hotels come into their own.”Santo Stefano di Sessanio is one village in which this phenomenon is taking place. Previously referred to as a ‘glorified care home’, Santo Stefano di Sessanio, a tiny medieval village in Abruzzo – a region east of Rome, in October last year offered to pay people $13 thousand a month to move there (and set up a business within its walls).Santo Stefano di Sessanio is far from alone in this ‘diffuse hotel’ project; there are now 150 scattered hotels throwing their doors open across Italy, according to CNN Travel.

It’s a concept mirrored to a degree all over the world, as Australia’s changing coastal culture and sea change movement shows.RELATED: ‘Pretending I’m In Greece’: How Australians Are Coping Without An Overseas Jaunt This SummerCrucially, CNN Travel has also reported that this scattered hotel concept could help save Italy’s tourism economy from languishing too long in a face mask filled hole.
“In the wake of the pandemic’s devastating impact on Italy’s tourism economy – which represents 13% of the country’s GDP – these are likely to play a vital role in helping revive the sector, with more traditional hotels still facing challenges in adapting to the Covid era.”
RELATED: ‘Glorified Care Home’ In Rural Italy Lures Young Travellers With Outrageous OfferNunzia Taraschi, director of Sextantio Albergo Diffuso, told CNN Travel, “We already have requests for rooms in December.”
“We had clients that just weeks ago were staying at Sextantio and said they felt safer here than back home in the city.”
Santo Stefano di Sessanio is a fortified medieval village, located in the mountains of Abruzzo at 1250 meters above sea level, inside the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga national park. Its website calls it “a classic example of an Italian medieval hill town, with perimeter walls encircling houses and squares.”
“During the last century the ‘modernisation’ of rural Italy compromised the architectural heritage of many of its countryside villages and towns.”
“But Santo Stefano, like many more remote Mediterranean mountain villages, was deserted when its impoverished inhabitants left in search of work. Paradoxically, the abandonment saved the town from architectural abuse.”Read more about the town here.

Breitling has always stood out among Switzerland’s legions of luxury watchmakers as a particularly action-focused brand.
The brand is best known for its connection to aviation, its pilot’s watches worn by civilian and military fliers across the globe as well as even making it into space. But it’s not just the skies that Breitling has stamped their mark on. Breitling’s dive watches are the stuff of legends, and the brand has also had a long association with iconic British car marque Bentley.
Breitling’s latest collaboration ditches four wheels for two, however, with the storied Swiss brand teaming up with Australian motorbike brand and cultural tour de force Deus Ex Machina (better known simply as Deus) on a stunning new chronograph: the limited-edition Top Time Deus (ref. A233101A1A1X1).
Founded in 2006, Deus began life as a custom motorbike shop in Sydney’s bohemian Inner West and has since become a true-blue Aussie success story, branching out into apparel, sporting goods and opening other bike workshops across the globe, everywhere from Milan and Los Angeles’ Venice Beach to Tokyo and Bali. Iconoclastic and free-spirited, Deus is the perfect partner for Breitling, the brand’s uniquely sporty character a perfect match for Deus’ petrol-powered irreverence.
One of Breitling’s slightly more obscure models, the Top Time is a classically beautiful chronograph that’s been in and out of production in recent years. Deus’ take on the timepiece pays homage to the original incarnation of the watch from the 1960s while spicing up the watch with some unique Deus details that will delight motorcycle fans and desk jockeys alike.

Immediately obvious are unique details like its funky ‘squircle’-shaped chronograph counters; orange and yellow details with a unique lightning bolt-shaped chronograph hand; a racing-themed calfskin leather strap; plus the Deus logo and its tongue-in-cheek adage “in benzin veritas” – “in petrol we trust” – offset in white on its black tachymeter scale. Flipping the watch over reveals an iconic Deus artwork of a retro-looking motorcyclist in full flight designed by Deus creative director Carby Tuckwell adoring the caseback.
On a technical level, the 41mm stainless steel watch is powered by the Breitling Caliber 23, a COSC-certified chronometer with a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. Its prominent chronograph pushers and double anti-reflective sapphire crystal make the watch a cinch to use whether you’re on your bike or at brunch (hot tip: the Deus Cafe’s potato rösti eggs benedict is amazing if you’re ever in Sydney). Water-resistant to 30m, it’s also tough enough to put up with all your blood, sweat and beers.
RELATED: Breitling’s ‘Gym-Proof’ Watch Is Affordable Luxury Australians Will Love
Brand collaborations are often quite a cynical exercise, but Breitling and Deus’ partnership seems incredibly natural. Breitling’s current trajectory under recently-appointed CEO Georges Kern has seen the brand revitalised: where other watchmakers often feel stuffy and constrained by their history, Breitling has chosen to take risks, seeking out interesting collaborations like this one with Deus, ultimately to their benefit.
Breitling’s watches are relevant, beautiful and most importantly, fun – and really, that’s what watches should be about: fun. And this Top Time is certainly all that, and more.
Limited to only 1500 examples, this Top Time is currently only available online, with a roll-out to boutiques anticipated later in the year… If they don’t all sell out by then. Australia’s rumoured to only have an allocation of 20 or so watches, so if you want one, you’ll need to get onto the Breitling website quicker than a Suzuki Hayabusa.

Ross Edgley edged his way into the public consciousness when he appeared on the Joe Rogan podcast in 2018.
Like an Arctic explorer from times gone by, Edgley represented some kind of ancestral force of grit, sharing how he swam around the UK, did marathons tied to cars, swam channels attached to tree trunks, and more.
In doing so, he also supplanted a certain sense of inadequacy (the more positive among you might call it inspiration) in many people’s heads (particularly this coffee-addicted, sedentary author’s). Why aren’t I doing that? Where’s my world record feat? Etc.
Fortunately, even if you are a 9-5 office worker, you can still learn from Edgley’s insights – the man seems to publish a new book every two years, from The World’s Fittest Book (published in 2018) to the more recent The Art Of Resilience (published in 2020).
Speaking of resilience, and offbeat training techniques, Edgley recently took to Instagram to share a training method that the average gym warrior is probably not using: hypoxia. Though this technique is associated with big wave surfers and endurance athletes more so than weight lifters, Edgley reckons it can be good for your gains as well as fitness.
View this post on Instagram
Why? Because he works off an all-encompassing philosophy. In other words: Edgley believes everything is interconnected (and, to be fair, he has the muscles, and literary citations to back it up).
RELATED: Cardio Is The Unlikely Key To Building Muscle, This Insane British Strongman Proves Why
“Breath-Holding (hypoxia) GAINZ. Old picture, but in lockdown I’m taking the opportunity to learn some new tricks to add to the strength and conditioning toolbox. Massive thanks to the freediving BROSEIDON king that is @willtrubridge for the tips and tricks,” Edgely captioned the post.
“Train everywhere and anywhere, everything and anything.”
Though some Instagram commenters were quick to throw in their two cents about safety (“suggest people start with a hypoxia app before doing breath holds under water. You tend to avoid shallow water blackouts if you’re on dry land”) others were inspired by the post.
A study from volume four, issue four of the Journal of Sport and Health Science states, “Several aspects related to endurance performance may be altered by hypoxic exposure and training including increases in erythrocyte volume, maximal aerobic exercise capacity, capillary density, and economy.”
“In the modern era of sport, increasingly sophisticated anti-doping controls, such as the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) biological passport program, leave elite athletes with few choices of legal ergogenic aids that have the potential to substantially improve performance, and altitude/hypoxic training is among them.”
“The efficacy of altitude/hypoxic training and the best practices for its use are still being debated in research circles, while athletes congregate in altitude training camps and use altitude simulation devices in the pursuit of improved exercise performance.”
It’s also important not to jump in and improvise your own ‘hypoxia’ but rather work with trustworthy professionals to achieve your aims. As Healthline reports, “It may be tempting to hold your breath during weight lifting – don’t!”
“Making a habit of holding your breath can cause your blood pressure to rise, possibly resulting in dizziness, nausea or even a heart attack. Instead, use your exercise as a time to practice deep breaths.”
This is not the only endurance training spruiking post Edgley has shared lately on Insatgram. On Tuesday Edgley shared an excerpt from The Art Of Resilience on how to “build a big gas tank.”
View this post on Instagram
“In #TheArtOfResilience… I talk a lot about ‘getting wintered’ but it’s not all ice baths and mud runs, it’s also about long, slow, arduous miles to bring about many adaptations within the body that improve the cardiorespiratory system.”
“One of the most well documented of these welcome adaptations is a stronger heart since we’ve known for a long time that endurance training enables our hearts to grow bigger and stronger.”
“According to the Olympic Textbook of Medicine in Sport this was first described in 1899 when the Swedish physician S. Henschen noted that cross-country skiers had larger hearts than the average person, a phenomenon thought to result from adaptation to long-term aerobic exercise. In summary, don’t underestimate this period of your training and part of your year.”

Dressing well doesn’t have to be complicated.Of course, it’s hard to look bad in a well-fitting suit with all the trimmings, but fashion is an art, not a science. Focusing on quality basics; adding some drama to an outfit with one or two key statement pieces or accessories; and most importantly, letting your inner confidence and personality shine through – that’s the secret to dressing well. That’s why David Beckham is one of the most consistently stylish men on the planet. While the man’s wardrobe is pretty expansive – the 45-year-old football legend comfortable rocking everything from Peaky Blinders-esque old-school English vibes to going ‘full hypebeast’ in luxury casualwear – Beckham’s got his essentials down pat, and his sunny disposition means he can make anything work. That’s charisma, baby.Take this classic look he was sporting in Miami whilst enjoying a coffee earlier this week: it’s really just a plain white t-shirt and a lowkey watch (probably a Tudor). The pièce de résistance, however, is his tastefully retro sunglasses, which perfectly frame his face and elevate an otherwise nondescript outfit to stratospheric levels. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel, guys – a key accessory like a good pair of sunnies and a winning smile are all you need.

The sunglasses are actually from Beckham’s own brand, Eyewear by David Beckham (go figure). It’s truly a family outfit, with the Beckham patriarch enlisting the help of his eldest son Brooklyn to both star in as well as shoot the brand’s campaign photography.RELATED: David Beckham Recruits Son To Promote His Italian Fashion Business VentureCelebrity brands’ products often end up being garish, overpriced and poorly made affairs, but Beckham’s specs are a refreshing exception. The Italian-made and designed range focuses on retro yet timeless designs – plenty of quality acetate and warm, versatile colours – and most styles retail for around 140 GBP (~250 AUD or 200 USD), which puts them in line with other popular brands like Persol or Ray-Ban.In short, they’re classic pieces that can turn even everyday outfits into real stunners. Especially if you can bend it like Beckham.Check out the range on Farfetch.
