Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul’s Creator Has Bad News For Fans
Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul’s Creator Has Bad News For Fans

Vince Gilligan, who created Breaking Bad and co-created Better Call Saul, has revealed that he has no intention of making more shows or films that exist in the Breaking Bad universe.

Breaking Bad is arguably the best television series of all time. And its spinoff series Better Call Saul is just as good. But all good things must eventually come to an end – Better Call Saul’s last episode ever airs in just a few days on August 15th.

Naturally, we can’t wait to see the conclusion and hope it lives up to the satisfying finale Breaking Bad gave fans back in 2013. Although, Better Call Saul’s finale – called Saul Gone – may be the end of the Breaking Bad universe forever.

Vince Gilligan, the mastermind behind Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, recently sat down with Variety. And he was asked about the future and whether more spinoffs are in the works. Sadly, Gilligan did not give an answer that fans will want to hear.

“We really don’t have any plans to go forward from here. I suppose you should never say never, but we have no intention right now of extending this world. As much as I’d like to selfishly, we’re really not thinking along those lines.”

Vince Gilligan

This is a very different tune to the one Giancarlo Esposito was singing back in June of this year. The actor who played Gus Fring in both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul told James Corden that he believed (and hoped) a spinoff series focusing on Gus was in the works.

We also feel like lying down knowing the Breaking Bad universe is ending for good in a few days. Image Credit: AMC

But Gilligan says this isn’t the case and that both he and Peter Gould – who co-created Better Call Saul with Gilligan – were both wanting to move on from the Breaking Bad universe.

“I think Peter’s ready to go off and do new things and I’m ready to do new things as well.”

Vince Gilligan

However, Gilligan did say that he thinks Better Call Saul’s ending is enjoyable and hopes fans of the Breaking Bad universe will feel contented by it.

“… I think the ending is, to me, very satisfying. It was hard-earned, but it was well-earned. And I hope people will agree when they see it. But it feels like the proper and fitting ending, keeping in mind all that has come before. And I hope folks see it that way as well.”

Vince Gilligan

At least we don’t have too much longer to go before we find out how the Breaking Bad universe comes to an end. Although, Gilligan did say “never say never” so we’re staying optimistic – hopefully, another Breaking Bad spinoff will grace our screens one day.

Roger Federer Gives Men A Lesson In How To Age Gracefully
Roger Federer Gives Men A Lesson In How To Age Gracefully

Roger Federer recently took to Twitter to celebrate his 41st birthday. While doing so, we reckon, he showed men one way to age gracefully.

We’ve always said there’s no selfie like a Roger selfie, but we’re going to have to add another phrase to our vocabulary: there’s no birthday post like a Roger birthday post.

That’s right: Roger Federer just turned 41 and – in typical Federer fashion – did it in style. Taking to both Instagram and Twitter, Federer wrote: “You know you’re getting old when the candles cost more than the cake. Thanks for all the amazing birthday wishes.”

In gently trolling himself Federer – on the down low – provided a masterclass, we believe, in how to age gracefully. There are many ways to do this, but Federer showed off two in particular. The first is not to take yourself too seriously or to become a grouch. The second is to not fight aging, or get hung up about it, but to embrace it with a sense of humour.

RELATED: How To Age Ungracefully And Look Awesome Doing It

This playfulness seems to be almost always evident with Federer, with his train selfies, ice age selfies and alpine selfies always tickling the corners of netizens’ mouths. Though the cynic might say being one of the most loved (and most successful) tennis players of all time helps, the optimist might see it more as a lesson in how to keep positive when the chips are down.

Federer hasn’t had much luck of late when it comes to injuries. He has been out of action for a long time due to knee injuries and is expected to make his comeback in September at the Laver Cup. After that, he is scheduled to play at an ATP 500 event in Basel.

Federer has shared positive messages during last two injury-besieged years, working out, getting into his rehabilitation and expressing his appreciation for his family (as well as making good on pinky promises to fans). He also “gave in” and got a dog, presumably at his family’s request.

Federer has told Tennis World USA of his downtime: “It gave me the opportunity to selectively sort out my travels and give something back. Many friends always came to see me, now I could turn it around. The tennis itinerary was sometimes excessive, especially with having to organise that for the children too.”

“It’s nice to have a break from that now, and for them too, although they miss the travelling. We have friends all over the world and have developed routines for them as well. We haven’t seen our friends in New York and Melbourne for a few years now.”

Let’s hope we see a return to action from Federer soon.

Forget Cigarette Breaks: This Small Business Offers Masturbation Breaks
Forget Cigarette Breaks: This Small Business Offers Masturbation Breaks

Employers around the globe are struggling to lure people back to the office post-COVID – perhaps more businesses should follow the lead of this Spanish office and offer masturbation breaks...

Last year, Erika Lust, founder and CEO of adult entertainment company Erika Lust Films, started to offer her employees half-hour daily masturbation breaks in a bid to ‘normalise’ masturbation last year, and even set up a private ‘masturbation station’ in her Barcelona office, Indy100 reports.

Coming into 2022 (pun entirely intended) the practice is still going strong, with employees claiming it helps to relieve stress, resulting in “less aggression” and “more productivity” in the workplace. Lust has even turned it into a promotional opportunity, with sex toy brands sending the office free product to support the practice.

Obviously, a porn studio’s workplace culture is likely to be more libertine and open-minded than your average office – but could offering masturbation breaks work for other businesses? ‘Wankos’ instead of ‘smokos’?

It might seem funny but there are actually some serious productivity benefits to be found by letting your employees indulge in a bit of self-pleasure.

Masturbating to climax makes your brain release dopamine, which makes you feel good and improves your mood, as well as oxytocin, which lowers your cortisol levels, the body’s main stress hormone, Psychology Today relates.

The act of self-love also releases endorphins, which help relieve stress as well as help us focus and improve our decision-making. We’ve all heard of ‘post-nut clarity’ – turns out it’s real and quantifiable.

Focused, happy employees – what more could you want? It’s also far healthier than smoking…

Lewis Hamilton Almost Appeared In ‘Top Gun: Maverick’
Lewis Hamilton Almost Appeared In ‘Top Gun: Maverick’

We were truly robbed; Lewis Hamilton almost appeared in Top Gun: Maverick alongside Tom Cruise. But the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time sadly had to turn down a role as a fighter pilot. Here’s why…

Sir Lewis Hamilton, the winner of seven World Drivers’ Championship titles, recently told Vanity Fair that he considers himself friends with Cruise and so, he asked (or rather begged) the actor if he could appear in the box office hit Top Gun: Maverick.

“Basically I’m a friend of Tom… Cruise. One of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. He invited me to his set years ago when he was doing Edge of Tomorrow, and then we just built a friendship over time. So when I heard the second [Top Gun] was coming out, I was like, ‘Oh, my God, I have to ask him.’

Lewis Hamilton

“I said, ‘I don’t care what role it is. I’ll even sweep something, be a cleaner in the back.’”

Hamilton revealed the reason he was so desperate to be involved with the Top Gun sequel – in any capacity – was because he loved the original film as a child. And of course, Cruise said yes and told Hamilton he could definitely appear as a fighter pilot in Top Gun: Maverick.

However, Hamilton realised that filming for the Top Gun sequel was taking place at the same time as the Formula 1 finale of that year, and so because Hamilton’s a self-proclaimed “perfectionist” he had to turn down the fighter pilot role to instead prepare and focus on racing for Mercedes.

Hamilton was clearly disappointed that the schedules clashed as he described the phone call between him, Cruise and Top Gun: Maverick’s director Joseph Kosinski when he let them know he wouldn’t be able to play a fighter pilot in the film as:

“The most upsetting call that I think I’ve ever had…”

Lewis Hamilton

Luckily, Hamilton is working with Kosinski on another project; he’s acting as a consultant for Kosinski’s upcoming Formula 1 movie that will star Brad Pitt. And hopefully, Hamilton will get the chance to work with Cruise in the not-too-distant future – maybe Hamilton could appear in Top Gun 3 (if it happens)?

Sorry, Haters: Crypto Will Never Fail
Sorry, Haters: Crypto Will Never Fail

While the price of digital assets may have suffered — the cryptocurrency industry is only just getting warmed up…

Crypto has been ripped to shreds by the claws of a bear market. There’s simply no denying it.

Aside from last month’s relief from “down only” — the past 8 months has seen the blockchain industry as a whole has jettison more than 60% of its total value with nearly US$2 trillion wiped from the space entirely.

And so, it becomes all too easy to believe the increasingly loud cries of critics, emboldened in their claims that crypto, NFTs and anything Web3-related has a one way ticket to an early grave.

Interestingly enough, a lot of the broad brushstroke claims made by the critics are actually correct — just not in the way that they think…

The Blessing of a Bear Market

One of the most common criticisms is that there are too many “useless” or “scammy” crypto & blockchain projects in the space and, you know what? That’s a fair assessment.

However, a bear market and the huge market-wide devaluation that comes with it, serves a crucial function of wiping out the opportunistic and exploitative degenerates.

These enormous capital capitulations clear out the bad actors who’ve built their projects on speculation, massive amounts of risk, ensuring that only the teams with a real vision, solid fundamentals and genuine methodology for future adoption will remain.

To borrow a popular phrase that did the rounds at NYT NFC:

“It’s not a bear market. It’s a build market.”

While the current environment may be a brutal place to be as an investor who accumulated large amounts of crypto throughout 2021, but as a long-term investor lower prices equal an opportunity to accumulate.

Crypto is Already the Native Currency of Web3

In case you were curious about the actual use case of cryptocurrency — it’s literally the foundation of the internet economy. Every single day, tens of thousands of people trade millions of dollars worth of Ether (ETH) and other cryptocurrencies in exchange for digital goods and services.

So, to any critic who’s still repeating “bUt wHat iS cRypTo us3d f0R?” all you have to do is look at the daily trading volume on Opensea or Rarible and there’s the answer. Despite the tanking prices of web3-based assets, a recent Telstra report found that boots-on-ground blockchain developers have never been busier…

There’s no denying that right now, web3 is very much overhyped by a plethora of venture capitalists and tech bros. However, this shouldn’t detract from the fact that web3 and its burgeoning economy already exist right now, and the entire space holds enormous potential to revolutionize the way humans interact with each other online.

RELATED: What is Web3, Is It Legit, What Web3 Tokens Should You Invest In?

Instead of major tech companies like Google, Facebook, Netflix and Amazon controlling every aspect of what happens online, blockchain-based Web3 technology gives individual people far more control over their behaviour, data and finances online — something that’s pretty important considering how much of our lives may be on the internet moving forward.

Web3 might be one of the most revolutionary things to be released into the world of modern man, it’s just been surrounded by way too much hype and shit tonnes of free money, brought about by years of low interest rates and government stimulus.

NFTs Are Only Just Getting Started

Another huge part of the bear market hysteria is wrapped up in the devaluation and denouncement of NFTs as though they’re a single entity, and not a thriving industry filled with hundreds of thousands of unique projects and talented artists.

With that being said, I still think that an absurd amount of existing NFTs are total garbage, whose (formerly) sky-high prices were either really good marketing, or straight up money laundering.

But you’d have to be an absolute idiot to ignore the fact that this status-associated, proof-of-ownership technology is on the cusp of releasing a revolution in how we as humans do gaming, art, sports and culture moving forward…

I will grant the critics one thing though: in web3 and the associated NFT space, there remains an enormous issue with value extraction, where developers and project leaders vacuum up huge sums of money from communities without ever delivering much more than a very expensive jpeg (insert “right-click save” meme here).

I recently stumbled across a project that totally flips the switch on this all-too-common problem: a soon-to-be-launched collection of 8,888 NFTs called Hoop Hounds by Australian NBA media company Basketball Forever.

This project seems to be value-injecting, by delivering value to their fans in a way that the world of Web3 has never seen before. When a fan mints an NFT, they get real-world utility instantlyIf you go and mint a hound wearing a pair of black headphones, you get those headphones in real life.

If you mint a hound wearing a rare pair of Jordans, the physical version of those shoes gets sent out to your mailbox. If you’re lucky enough to mint a Hound wearing an NBA strip, you get the chance to fly to that team’s city, be hosted in a hotel, and sit court-side to watch that team lay it down.

Other Australian projects like Deadfellaz are also great at building communities around digital art and identity online.

Short Term Fail, Long Term Win

Ultimately, there’s a good chance that crypto may continue to “fail” in the short-term, especially as the temperamental Fed will almost certainly plunge markets into the red once again because of some new-found labor market overconfidence.

I do expect that there’ll be some further industry decimating price action — however, I’m pretty convinced that crypto and the nascent web3 industry will blossom in the long-term, there’s simply far too much development and “buidling” going on for any other alternative.

This Cunning Hotel Hack Makes A Sydney Staycation Feel Like Bali
This Cunning Hotel Hack Makes A Sydney Staycation Feel Like Bali

Bali is 4,600km (a 6 and a quarter hour flight) from Sydney. But I recently found a way to have a tropical getaway-esque experience right here in Sydney.

In the same way that betting companies sometimes message problem gamblers with credit, I recently got a message from a travel company, reminding me I had $250 credit, which would expire in a matter of weeks.

I did what any impulsive person would do, and booked a trip. Not having time to go too far, I chose to go on a staycation in Sydney – something I had previously sneered at.

However, though I stand by my stance that staycations are boring, I discovered a holiday hack during mine that I feel compelled to share. That revelation? If you book a staycation in Sydney during a La Nina year (La Nina being the climate system giving us all this rain) in a hotel that has a rooftop pool, then you could end up feeling like you’re in Bali (just without the 6 and a quarter hour flight).

The key to lending an ~urban oasis~ feel to your trip is to arrive at the hotel late, during a rainy day, and head to the pool in your slippers and gown (naturally) forty minutes or so before the pool’s closing time (in my case this was at about 7:20pm). If you have any luck, it will be empty, and you can enjoy feeling like you’re in an urban jungle, spending a good half an hour or so in the heated spa while the rain pounds your head and the humidity rises off the tiles.

Priceless. Oh, and I’m not alone in enjoying a rooftop pool experience in Sydney, with various social media users taking to the platform to show their good times off, too (see: the above and below images).

Now, obviously, there is a lot more to Bali than chilling in a pool with a drink (or 10). But let’s be honest: that’s quite a big reason a lot of us go there (maybe that’s why we have a reputation as Bali’s worst tourists). So, if you’re feeling jealous of your friends’ Bali or Europe pictures right now, I can recommend giving this a try. I stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel Sydney, but there are many other hotels in Sydney where you can give this holiday hack a go, from Sofitel Darling Harbour to The Old Clare Hotel and The Holiday Inn Sydney.

Happy swimming.

‘Dine Smarter, Not Harder’: The Tapas Rule You Need To Know Before Going To Spain
‘Dine Smarter, Not Harder’: The Tapas Rule You Need To Know Before Going To Spain

No Spanish holiday would be complete without going out for a night of tapas and drinking – but there’s one rule you should know before settling in at a restaurant.

For those not in the know, tapas (or pintxos if you’re in the Basque Country) are appetizers or small dishes served alongside drinks. It’s one of the best parts of Spanish culture: rather than spending your night at one restaurant or bar, you might visit multiple small places, eating tapas and drinking along the way.

Indeed, many bars in Spain will offer free drinks alongside tapas, which are typically of a very high standard. Tapas has grown into a rich and sophisticated tradition in Spain, and it’s why many gourmands say Spain has the best food in the world.

But there’s nothing worse than bad tapas… Which is why there’s a clever rule you’ve got to know before your next Spanish holiday. It’s called the ‘bravas rule’, expat and foodie James Blick explains, and it’s a gamechanger.

WATCH the ‘bravas rule’ explained below.

Essentially, if you’re at a tapas bar and you’re not sure whether it’s going to be good or not, order the patatas bravas. If those are good, the rest of the food is likely to be good, but if they’re bad, the rest are likely to be bad, he explains.

Patatas bravas are a tapas staple and one of Spain’s best dishes. It’s a basic dish – fried potatoes served with a spicy tomato-based sauce – but they’re an absolute delight. If done properly, at least.

I can vouch from experience, having travelled to Madrid earlier this year. The very first tapas place I went to, which I went to with a local, had amazing bravas – so in retrospect it probably shouldn’t have come as a surprise that when we ordered more dishes, they were all amazing (I’m still dreaming about the cocido madrileño we had…)

But then the last place I went to served us truly terrible bravas, and lo and behold, the rest of the food we had was decidedly average. If I had known about the rule before dining, maybe we would have done better elsewhere.

Getting stuck into tapas in Madrid. The bravas were long gone by this stage… Image: Jamie Weiss/DMARGE

Other tapas staples that are a good measure of a venue include the croquetas, the calamares or even simply the bread – if the bread’s not fresh, don’t bother. Alternatively, order a caña (a small beer) and see what comes with it… A decent place will serve you something decent.

This rule doesn’t just apply to tapas bars or Spanish food, either. A gelateria can be judged on the basis of its vanilla, a ramen place by its tonkotsu, and so on. Dine smarter, not harder.

The Rock Shares What Motivates Him To Work Out At 12:30am

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is a notorious jacked dude. He recently shared how he tricks himself into wanting to work out – or as he calls it, his “anchoring philosophy” – even when he really doesn’t want to.

You may love going to the gym, but you probably don’t look like Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. A physique like his takes serious time, dedication, genetics and – not that we recommend it – perhaps even steroids (‘The Rock’ has admitted to taking steroids briefly in his teens, back when he had no idea what he was doing).

Those days though the WWE wrestler turned action movie star is now a source of inspiration, motivation, healthy living (and cheat meals), previously educating his followers on the benefits of the likes of verbally abusing yourself in the gym, sweat equity and blood volume training. This week he’s been back at it again, taking to Instagram to share with his 333 million followers how he hypes himself up for a workout when he’s feeling flat.

This came after completing a late night workout. “Sweaty, hot and smelly (me;) wrapping up a 1230am workout,” The Rock said. “Heard a quote… I thought you guys could use.”

WATCH: The Rock Shares His Workout Philosophy

He continued: “The person who goes to the gym, every single day, regardless of how they feel — will always beat the person who goes to the gym when they feel like going to the gym.”

“Solid anchoring philosophy here of pushing past our fatigue and doing the daily hard, consistent shit we often don’t feel like doing.”

“Inevitably, will always give you that edge. Physically yes — but more importantly — the psychological edge to succeed.”

“Finish your week strong,” he concluded – “mentally.”

New Superyacht Destroyed In Spectacular Blaze Off Formentera
New Superyacht Destroyed In Spectacular Blaze Off Formentera

A pristine, white 44m superyacht now looks like the burnt bottom of a paella pan. The superyacht caught fire off the coast of Formentera on its first ever season on the Mediterranean. The crew and passengers all escaped unscathed, but the same can’t be said for the yacht.

Aria SF, a spanking new superyacht which was only delivered in July 2022, has been destroyed by fire while sailing off the coast of Formentera (a beautiful island just over 20km south of Ibiza). The yacht is 44m long. According to the area’s Maritime Rescue service, the 7 crew members and 9 passengers are all safe, having been rescued by the Maritime Rescue team.

The Maritime Rescue service also announced, some seven hours ago (as of the time of writing) that the fire had been almost completely extinguished. Diariodeibiza.es reports that the smoke could be seen from as far away as Ibiza. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

According to El Pais the call for help went out at about 5pm, and it was then that the Maritime Rescue service sent out the Salvamar Acrux and the Guaramar Concepcion Arenal, which went to exacuate passengers and crew from the striken vessell and to put out the flames. Once the fire is out, El Pais reports, the Guardamar Concepcion Arenal will tow what’s left of the burnt superyacht to Ibiza.

According to The Superyacht Times, the yacht had a swimming pool, several lounges, five bedrooms and a gym. Aria SF also, Boat International reports, “was the first hull in the ISA GT 45 series and was due to make her world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.”

Various superyachts have caught fire this year. The multi-million dollar 27 metre Sanlorenzo SX88, for instance, was destroyed in Valencia in April after an alleged fault occurred with the lithium batteries.

In January, too, a fire at Ferretti Shipyard in Cattolica destroyed what appeared to be the Ferretti Yachts 1000, with as many as five fire brigades being called to the scene.

Earlier this year DMARGE spoke to founder of BLC Yachts, Candas Balci, who has previously worked as a marina manager and a luxury yacht manager, to ask about superyacht protocols when it comes to fires. Balci told DMARGE that there are long procedures and trainings to avoid fires breaking out on board, “but at the end of the day all yachts are highly flammable.”

He added: “If it is fire you can put out in 3-5 minutes, it is always better to move the boat outside of [the] marina, far from other yachts and people, and continue your fire fighting somewhere safe.”

“Generally, this ends up with the yacht sinking, due to all the water pressured to the yacht to put down the fire. After the yacht is capsized, insurance companies come and check if it will be covered. Generally, they do, and lift out the burnt yacht in some dry dock to investigate the fire.”

Candas Balci

“But they have some items on their policies to not pay the coverage, therefore everything on your yacht must be legal, starting from the flag registry, manning on board and crew certificates. Otherwise, there will be hard days for the owner to get his money from insurance.”
