The perks of fame range from jumping the queue at clubs to getting free swag in awards show gift bags. And the private jet? That’s practically a requirement if you want to top the A-list.
JetSmarter, an on-demand private jet booking service, has flown many of Hollywood’s elite (think Jamie Foxx and Kim Kardashian) and counts Jay Z amongst its investors. The company recently dished on some of the craziest requests its celebrity clientele have made – and let’s just say they go well beyond the extra packet of peanuts you’re happy to score.
Can you guess the famous faces behind these ten OTT demands?
- One celeb requested an entire plane be packed with white Casablanca lilies.
- Another requested that the plane be stocked with Cool Ranch Doritos and Sparkling Ice Kiwi Strawberry – and nothing else.
- A star demanded complete darkness for their flight, so every window was covered to ensure no natural light came in.
- A celebrity makes weekly cross-country flights along with a team of stylists, and spends the entire time trying on outfits, doing alterations, and laying out clothes for the upcoming week.
- One celeb requested a private jet from New York City to South Florida – just to fetch their smartphone.
- Another chartered a flight to ship Birkin bags and clothes back to their hometown after a shopping spree.
- Someone brought expert dog trainers on board for mid-air pooch school.
- Food tasters joined a flight to make sure the catering would please their client’s exacting palate.
- On one trip, the only music played during the entire flight was Liberace.
- A couple once chartered a plane to nowhere, paying nearly seven figures for a six-hour flight that ended in the same location where it began. They indulged in a very expensive bottle of wine, spa treatments, expert skin care, and a manicure/pedicure. They also brought a world-class chef on board, as well as one of the world’s most well-known opera singers to serenade them for an hour.
Stars: they’re not like us at all.

In a bid to keep up with the joneses, Google is rumoured to be working on its own line of smartphones that could be available as soon as the end of 2016.
Despite Google’s Android system already operating on plenty of smartphones, The Telegraph has word that the tech giant wants to release its own handset with future plans to venture into hardware. This means, like Apple has complete control over the iPhone, Google is aiming for total Android domination.
There had already been talks of a Google smartphone release as the company has been working on the modular Ara smartphone and CEO Sundar Pichai recently said that Google was “investing more effort” into phones and would be more “opinionated” about Nexus designs.
There is some question, however, regarding Google’s smartphone release date as the Ara phone won’t be available until 2017. Watch this space.

The finest man caves are plentiful in this world but not many of them hark back to the aesthetics of old-world charm.
Luckily for one loft in Tribeca, the concept of modern lines and minimalist design has been canned in favour of vintage textures. True to New York’s urban landscape, Scarpidis Design have done this particular space justice with stone, industrial steel tubing and plush leather furniture.
Even the colour brings it back to an industrial period by using copper-coloured beams, heavy timber as a bookshelf and tech drawing prints as wallpaper. It’s an eclectic clash yet so period correct you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into 1960s Americana mixed with a bit of medieval (King Arthur chandelier anyone?).
Moving into the bedroom sees a more modern appointment of furniture without straying too far from the classic theme. The dark chocolate brown merged with taupe walls helps pull together the distinguished gentleman look for an era where standing out is often hyped.

It’s not your imagination: hangovers worsen with age, making the inevitable march towards death an even bleaker prospect.Hangover studies are low priority on the health research funding totem pole, but a handful of scientists are dedicated to understanding how and why you feel so bad after getting blitzed. The world anxiously awaits they day they invent a foolproof hangover cure. In the meantime, we’ll settle for understanding why your mornings after get more savage as senility approaches.
#1 You’re Less Efficient At Processing Drinks
Every beverage you throw back takes about an hour to break down via a complex, multi-step process. In your early drinking years, your body is a well-oiled machine that completes that process fairly easily. Then you get older. The enzymes needed to break down alcohol start to disappear, meaning the nasty stuff that causes hangover symptoms leaves your system more slowly. Hello, two-day headaches.
#2 Your Body Composition Changes
Unless you’re a bodybuilding anomaly, your body builds up more fat as you age. That’s bad news for your waistline and your binge drinking. Fat doesn’t absorb alcohol, so if your body is packing extra pounds, you have less space left over for booze to dilute. Your body also loses water over time, which further contributes to alcohol staying more concentrated in your system.
#3 Your Ability To Recover From Anything Drops
It’s not just booze your body can’t handle. You lose your ability to recover from everything as you age. A scrape that would have healed in a day or two becomes a week-long ordeal, and a tough workout could leave you laid up for days. The National Institute on Aging calls this phenomenon “immunosenescence,” or the gradual weakening of your immune system as you age.
#4 You Might Be On More Medication
Fast forward to the later part of middle age. By then you’re more likely to be on medication for chronic issues, increasing the odds that a prescription in your system messes with your ability to metabolise alcohol. On top of that, medication stays in your system longer than you might think, so a pill you took on Wednesday could still cause problems on Friday night.
#5 You’ve Been Drinking Alcohol
Here’s the real kicker: the more you drink, the more your ability to recover from drinking deteriorates. Booze speeds up the natural cognitive decline that’s part of the aging process, in turn worsening the effects of each tipple. Neurons become less efficient in your 50s and 60s, then you impair them with alcohol and they become even more inefficient. Your night could be over two drinks in, when two drinks was just a pregame in your twenties.

Serial entrepreneur Elon Musk has shown no signs of slowing down with news that he is planning to snap up major solar power provider, Solar City.
The unprecedented move will see the Tesla chief muscle in on the energy sector as he attempts to control some of the resources that his future fleet of cars will rely on in the future. Speaking of his decision to move into a new industry before he has perfected the automotive one, Musk explained that, “the world does not lack for automotive companies.”
“The world lacks for sustainable energy companies.”
This news should come as an advantage to electric car owners as Tesla have already received 400,000 deposits for the new $US30,000 Model 3 which will begin production later this year. On a grander scheme the plan should also reinforce the longevity of the electric car industry. Predictions have the cost of electric cars matching that of internal combustion vehicles by 2022.
Given that there will be more electric vehicles on the road, Musk wants to ensure that big polluters like the U.S aren’t burning more fossil fuels to keep up with the extra demand on the grid, hence negating the point of green energy. His solution therefore is to vertically integrate with Solar City and household powering batteries via the Tesla Energy program.
What does this all mean? A customer can one day walk into a Tesla dealership, buy a car, buy solar panels to power said car and for whatever is left over, it will get stored in the 6.4-kWh batteries at home.

A stylish suit that could save your life? Sign us up. Colombian fashion designer Miguel Caballero has broken all the rules with a range of lightweight, bulletproof men’s suits that cost between $6,000 and $8,000.
Caballero made his start designing bulletproof suiting for dignitaries including prime ministers and presidents of Latin America, the King of Jordan and a ‘survivors club’ of 20 customers who are all still alive today thanks to the designer’s protective creations.
“My greatest satisfaction is not earning business, it’s saving lives,” Caballero told Reuters.
Bulletproof suits aren’t Caballero’s only drawcard, the designer also makes slightly less glamorous items like bulletproof underwear, de-mining suits and bulletproof vests for military and police forces.
“It’s amazing, it is discrete, it is lightweight, the innovation is beautiful, you don’t even know that anyone is wearing it,” said Rasheda Walker who sells Caballero’s bulletproof underwear in parts of Africa.
Caballero, who exports to 23 countries, recently presented his unexpectedly fashionable creations at the Chico Museum in Bogota proving that future is most definitely now.

As the driverless car debate heats up, there has been a push to transform one Australian city into a ‘living laboratory’ for the autonomous vehicle industry and it’s not what you’d expect.
A coalition of Hunter academic groups and businesses have been winning the support of the NSW Labor Party to turn the harbour city of Newcastle into a ‘honeypot’ for the billion dollar driverless car industry with a new Agile Urban Transport Open Network, or AUTON for the time-poor.
One of the key players behind Newcastle’s driverless cars push, Garry Ellem, told The Herald that AUTON’s aim is to make it easier for people to invest in the industry, using Newcastle as a ‘test bed’.
Apparently, Newie is ‘ideal’ for testing because the area isn’t too big (any issues wouldn’t cause major problems like they would in the big smoke) but the area is big enough to get useful results from the tests. Plans in the pipeline include a driverless shuttle bus on the university campus and freeways like the M1.
With the autonomous car industry tipped to be worth almost $90 billion globally by 2030, Newcastle is at the forefront of some pretty exciting stuff.
