Why Taking Ice Baths Is Great For Your Mental Health, According To Wim Hof
Why Taking Ice Baths Is Great For Your Mental Health, According To Wim Hof

Everyone wants to look after their mental health, but few among us are super keen to slop about in ice.

Speaking of contradictions, Wim Hof, the extreme Dutch athlete known for climbing Everest barefoot and swimming ridiculous distances underneath ice, is a walking contradiction who has left scientists scratching their heads and saying “more research is neccessary” (or words to that effect) numerous times, having done things previously believed only possible with an oxygen mask (and crampons).

Wim Hof also, in a video currently doing the rounds on Instagram, can be seen explaining why, in his view, taking ice baths is good for your mental health.

“Receptors creating noradrenaline, 540% more, Dopamine, 250-300% more, it’s all science, this will battle effectively your mental disorder called depression, bipolar or any other… coming to you. You are able to get back into sense. Deep sense. Into you. Yourself.”

Some commenter’s on @spiritual.teachers.of.our.time’s Instagram page (who reposted the video, which was originally published by Wim Hof himself) claimed the technique really worked for them: “It’s [sic] does help!” one wrote. “I’ve been taking cold showers the whole year and it’s amazing how a simple cold bath can affect positively yourself.”

Another gushed: “Wim Hof is the best! Just read his book. His breathing exercises are amazing!”

RELATED: Dan Bilzerian Jumps Aboard The Ice Bath Fitness Trend

Others, however, took issue with the @spiritual.teachers.of.our.time account telling one user to start off by trying it just for a few minutes (after that user asked how long to do the ice bath for). They said you need to build up to an ice bath, not just rush straight in.

“Few minutes??” one social media user wrote. “Obviously you don’t know the answer and just shooting whatever. You need to start with contrast showers, then cold showers, then swimming jn low temperatures and only the can try ice bath. Your advice might kill someone.”

Another said: “I did the Wim Hof method online course. It took ten weeks. I didn’t take my first ice bath till week 10. Do not just jump into this. After doing this for a year I stayed in for 12 minutes in the ice bath and got mild hypothermia and it sucked. Do the course, take your time and enjoy the ride. The journey is the goal. If you want to know what to do go to his website.I do 5-7 minutes 3/4 times a week and no more. That’s enough. A cold shower a day is just fine too. Begin at the beginning my friend.”

Further comments from other Instagram users included: “Having a lot of money also helps with mental health” and “Almost every one of those rich successful people say to take cold showers or ice baths!! I’ve added it on my list of goals for this year.”

There you have it: some frisky fitness inspiration to start your Sunday!

Singapore Airlines Business Class Review: Pointy End Pleasure
Singapore Airlines Business Class Review: Pointy End Pleasure

If you’ve flown Singapore Airlines Business Class, you’re aware of the exclusive comforts their flight experience offers.

With oversized yet outdated seats, flawless customer service and 5-star “Book the Cook” dining options, flying SQ is a privilege for business and first-class travellers alike.

While the traditional business class is offered amongst their original fleet, the “new” class can be found on the 777-300ER, A500 and new A380’s. Anyone who has experienced the latter may agree.. We we’re due for an upgrade.

SQ’s new business class emulates refined sophistication. From ergonomic flatbed seats to improved privacy measures, the in-flight experience remains unrivalled by leading airlines.

For comfort optimisation and tips on improving your overall flight experience, explore our Singapore Airlines Business Class review before your book.

In this story

New Business Class Layout

singapore-773er-new-cabin-13
The atmosphere is soft, comforting and unique, accentuating refined luxury

For the sake of confusion, we’ll be focusing solely on the flight plan for SQ’s Boeing model 777-300ER. Expect to see a rise in use for these medium-haul planes since SQ decided to not re-sign their Airbus 380 lease this upcoming year. You’ll find airlines beginning to follow suit because of the difficulty in reaching full occupancy with these 600 person planes.

Anyway, as you board this single level plane you’ll notice 4 First Class suites and the first section of Business class. Business class is divided at rows 14 and 15 by restrooms, galley and economy boarding. Bassinet seats are at all 4 seats in row 15.

The entire Business class is set up in 1-2-1 rows, meaning your A and K seats have windows (besides in rows 19 & 21, but we’ll get to that later). The atmosphere is soft, comforting and unique, accentuating refined luxury.

Seating Style For Personal Comfort

layout
1-2-1 seat arrangement used by Singapore Airlines welcomes every type of airline traveller

The 1-2-1 seat arrangement used by Singapore Airlines welcomes every type of airline traveller. For those solo travellers who prefer adequate privacy and minimal talking, opt for a window seat.

Travelling as a duet? The D and F seats make conversation seamless while providing enough space for personal comfort. When you’re ready for down time, a simple recline into your wingback headrest provides more than enough privacy.

You’ll notice in our Cathay Pacific Business Class guide, the A & K seats are angled toward the window for added privacy. SQ’s window seats face straight ahead, while not a game changer, there’s more exposure to the cabin when flying in these A & K seats.

Singapore Airlines New Business Class Seats

singaporebusinessclass
New seats are handsomely designed with quilt and Scottish leather encased by polished copper for a refined, elegant look

While the traditional business class seats were best of class, they were in need of a luxury tuning. The new seats are handsomely designed with quilt and Scottish leather encased by polished copper for a refined, elegant look. They showcase two new reclining positions “Lazy Z” and “Sundeck” for maximum in-flight comfort.

A bold, yet effective move, SQ designers took down the width of the seat in order to provide more storage space for personal items. Guests who fly in the new business class have two large storage units on the side of the seat, a small compartment near the screen. This added storage is ideal for those working on flight and maintaining an organised space.

Fortunately, the added storage did not take away from the feel of a sizeable seat. SQ’s renovated seating remains one of the largest seats in competing business class cabins. When it’s time for some rest, all seats recline into a cozy, 78 inch sleeping pod with padded duvets designed by Givenchy.

Installed into each seat is height-adjustable table which can be utilised in flatbed mode accompanied by subjective directional lights during dim lighting. During your descent, one can check their appearance in-seat by a personal vanity mirror, no more do you have to go to the bathroom to freshen up.

Seats You Don’t Want To Book

seats
On Boeing 777-300ER planes, steer clear of rows 14 and 15 if you seek quieter travel

No one wants to sit in a loud, congested seat. Light sleepers, window enthusiasts and privacy seekers can all benefits by not selecting a few seats in Singapore Airlines Business Class.

A given, but worthy of mention, any seats near the galley and restrooms can be unpleasant for demanding travellers. On Boeing 777-300ER planes, steer clear of rows 14 and 15 if you seek quieter travel. While the FA’s are incredible and do their best to keep quiet, you can stop the sound of foot traffic amongst an intimate setting.

As mentioned, these rows are the divided by the galley and restrooms which can be vexatious. While row 15 is attractive for bulkhead seating, the space benefits are found in all seats in business class.

Say you enjoy the visual stimulation of flying. A view of the world below, endless clouds and infinite spaces. You check the seating chart and find 4 window seats open in business, you’re excited. You’ve selected set 19A and look forward to the expansive views of Tokyo on your way home.

But you’re met with disappointment, because seat 19A doesn’t actually have a window. Which is why we are here to heed warning. For those who enjoy the views, avoid seats 19A, 19K, 21A and 21K.

Seats You Definitely Want To Book

singaporebusinessclass
The partition between you and first class offers a secluded feel

Outside of the stated 4 seats to avoid, there’s aren’t many negative aspects about the leftover new business class seats. However, due to our selective personalities we’d chose to opt for row 11 window seats. Simple really, the partition between you and first class offers a secluded feel as well as not being located near a restroom.

Modern Inflight Entertainment

singapore-773er-new-cabin-9
Compared to the original business class, the new system feels as if we’re not stuck in the early 2000’s anymore

With the updated cabin came…you guessed it, an updated entertainment interface. Flying new business class means higher screen clarity, a modern touch-screen inset controller and enough film content to keep your inner Hollywood occupied. Add the 18” adjustable screen and I’d say Singapore Airlines Business Class outdid themselves for medium haul flights.

Compared to the original business class, the new system feels as if we’re not stuck in the early 2000’s anymore. All the seats were equip not only with world class entertainment, but well adjusted technological features like USB ports, power sockets and electronic seat numbers so you can find your seat at night.

Don’t Forget To Book The Cook

singaporeairlinesfood
Book The Cook lets you choose what you want to eat in advance

A unique feature to all Singapore Airlines Business Class flights, the Book The Cook feature lets you choose what you want to eat in advance. The options are extensive yet selective to your flight.

When flying out of Melbourne, the main course we chose was a pan-fried barramundi with sautéed vegetables and fettuccine.

Between featured chefs such as Georges Blanc (France) and wine industry influencers like Jeannie Cho Lee, you can rest assured your culinary experience will be noteworthy during flight. They also have an impressive cocktail list for those who aren’t feeling wine.

Breakfast for long haul flights is equally as impressive as the main courses. With the choice of healthy omelettes, authentic cultural dishes and hand squeezed OJ, the option for a healthy meal is plentiful. Add a cup of Illy coffee or fresh squeezed mimosa and you’re good to go!

Final Words

Singapore Airlines Business Class is known as one of the best business class cabins amongst competing airlines. Reputable for their oversized luxury seats and world-class inflight service, SQ continues to provide one of the most comfortable experiences to date.

After undergoing an interior renovation, the New Business Class provides all the same comforts with a contemporary touch. With their contemporary reverse herringbone seats, technologically advanced entertainment systems and fine dining meals, Singapore Airlines continues to uphold their reputation as industry leaders even after the drastic changes.

Enjoy unparalleled hospitality and luxury comforts by booking the New Singapore Business Class next time you fly out one of their select cities around the world.

The Batman Release Date Australia, Cast, Trailer & Reviews

Yes, another Batman reboot; this time starring Robert Pattinson as the crime-fighting vigilante. The Batman will not be an origin story but will follow Bruce Wayne in his second year of being Batman as he pursues the serial killer, The Riddler.

Where To Watch The Batman In Australia

Currently, The Batman is available to rent or purchase on Netflix, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, the Microsoft Store and YouTube.

Unfortunately, the film is not available to stream for free with an existing subscription on any streaming platform; we’ll keep you posted.

The Batman Trailer

If you haven’t had a chance to watch the trailer for The Batman yet, you can do so below:

The Cast & Crew

Bruce Wayne aka Batman is played by none other than Robert Pattinson, of Tenet, Water For Elephants, Remember Me, and the Twilight saga fame. Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell also star in the film.

Matt Reeves, who previously directed Let Me In, multiple Planet of the Apes films, and Cloverfield, has both co-written and directed The Batman. Reeves actually envisioned Pattinson as Batman whilst writing the screenplay for the film, according to IMDb, so it’s no surprise the Twilight actor was cast in the leading role.

The Plot

The Batman follows Bruce Wayne, played by Pattinson, a year after he decided to become the Batman. He must make new allies, including Catwoman, played by Kravitz, and James Gordon, played by Wright, to take down Dano’s character The Riddler; a serial killer who live-streams his murders of Gotham City’s elite citizens.

Reeves told Nerdist that while the film is not an origin story, it will explore the Batman character before he’s “fully formed” and will highlight that the character is still learning and is not an elite crime-fighter just quite yet.

What The Critics & Reviews Say

The Batman currently has an 8.1 IMDb score but you can also read our detailed review of The Batman here.

Release Date Australia

The Batman was released in Australian cinemas on the 3rd of March 2022.

Fake Rolex Watches Have Become In Vogue For The Ultra-Wealthy
Fake Rolex Watches Have Become In Vogue For The Ultra-Wealthy

There are few other brands on the planet that carry the same sort of cultural capital as Rolex. It’s the world’s best-known luxury brand, and the biggest watch brand on the planet. They’re not the rarest or most expensive watches out there (although they’re hardly cheap), but no other kind of watch screams ‘status symbol’ quite like a Rolex. Even people who know nothing about watches will recognise – and be impressed by – a Rolex. The price you pay for this ubquity and prestige, however, is that Rolexes are frequently the target of thieves. Where other watches might fly under the radar of opportunistic thieves, Rolexes are so well-known and so easily identifiable that wearing one out in public can often come with a huge risk. But that’s hardly a revelation. What is more of a revelation is how the last twelve months have seen a dramatic increase in watch thefts, particularly of Rolexes and particularly in the Los Angeles area. Perhaps it’s because of COVID, perhaps it’s because of the dramatic way Rolex prices have risen on the grey market over the last few years… It’s hard to say. But it’s got so bad that it’s lead some watch journalists to dub Rolexes “the world’s most dangerous watch”.Watch some shocking footage of Rolex thieves in action below.

The trend has become so pronounced that it’s even got some of LA’s wealthiest watch collectors shelling out huge bucks for ‘superfakes’: fake Rolexes that are so hard to tell from the real thing that they’ll fool even seasoned watch collectors, let alone criminals.

“[They’ll] take a $200,000 Rolex and copy it, using stainless steel and other metals, so it looks like the original but costs maybe $2,000 to $3,000 per watch… In the event that it’s stolen, the client is out a lot less money,” LA-based luxury property manager Bryan Peele tells The Times.

RELATED: The Most Expensive Watches Ever, As Of 2022Some of these superfakes can set you back hundreds if not thousands of dollars, sometimes getting close to the price of some (albiet lower-tier) real Rolexes. Isn’t that perverse…Of course, there are easier ways to make sure your watch doesn’t get stolen. A good tip is to be cautious about sharing too many photos of any high-end watches you own on social media. Watch thieves can easily track you down and use knowledge of your location and daily routine to target you.Stay safe out there.Read Next

The Deadly Truth About Travelling Across Australia
The Deadly Truth About Travelling Across Australia

Trying to see all of Australia in two weeks would be like going to the Super Bowl and leaving after two minutes.

But it’s not (just) because you would miss out on seeing the most of what the country has to offer, if you were to do that, that we don’t recommend it. It’s because you literally can’t do it. And it would be dangerous to try.

Why? Allow the following Reddit post to explain. Posted to the popular internet discussion forum a week or so ago, the post helps you envisage just how large Australia is. The post comprises of a photo, uploaded to Reddit’s r/interestingasfuck community, which is captioned: “A few of the sort of photos we use in Australia to try and explain to tourists you can’t do a lap of Australia in 2 weeks in a hired Camry.”

Image via Reddit

It shows a sign of the suburb Yuendumu, with a warning below it: “Next fuel service Halls Creek 760km.”

The image prompted a number of Reddit users to share their thoughts and experiences of driving long distances in Australia.

One wrote: “I used to work at a hotel pub in Halls Creek. We’d use a similar technique to deal with folks who were being rude or whatever…”

“‘If you don’t like it here, you can always go to the pub down the road!’ (The pub down the road was about 300km down the road).”

Another quipped: “imagine driving 300km and realising you forgot your ID,” while yet another made a rather rude suggestion: “Edge of the World’s Ass would make a perfect bar name.”

Video: Why You Can’t Drive Around Australia In Two Weeks

Another talked about a time when a Telstra employee rather ironically almost found themselves out of reception and out of luck.

“About 3 years ago I used to live on Mornington station in central Kimberley, and had this fella from telstra ring up trying to get to us from Halls Creek through the 4wd track over King Leopold Ranges (now Miliwindi, I know) in a Telstra van because his GPS told him to.”

“I kept telling him he’d have to go up to kunners then down the Gibb, ideally in something more robust, and that he would 100% not make it through a goat track that barely gets used twice a year and never graded. He just wouldn’t listen.”

“‘No, the GPS says there’s a road through!’. Never heard from him again (I assume he blew the job off, but you never know, might still be out there trying to get that van over the range!).”

The discussion also included various social media users asking what Australians do if they don’t have cars with giant fuel tanks.

“I get like 750km with a full tank… So I’m fucked,” one wrote. Another warned: “And a lot of the roads are rough, corrugated dirt, so fuel consumption is high.”

Commenters discussing alternative strategies to petrol stations… Image via Reddit.

The solution? Jerry cans. And just general preparation and route planning. And it was on this note that the thread turned to some other concerns Australians had about tourists in Australia, particularly regarding safety.

One Reddit user claimed: “Tourists do not tend to get the dangers in our country,” citing The Murray River as one example.

“Very strong current, lots of submerged branches and debris and yet every Christmas especially someone who cant swim jumps in the river despite all the warnings.”

Image via Reddit

Another said it’s common to see tourists getting stuck in rips at the beach. They wrote: “Was leaving a surf fishing beach on the Eyre Peninsula. Sign says: ‘Danger: no swimming. Strong rips.’ Watched a whole party of tourists go straight into the water.”

“Yeah they all go on about the wildlife when shit like this is a bigger danger.”

Got it? Good. Now go buy a jerry can or a better GPS…

How To Dress Like An Italian When You’re Not One
How To Dress Like An Italian When You’re Not One

Why are Italians still considered the best dressed men in the world?

It’s not like in a modernised world, men in North America, Australia and Asia don’t have access to the same quality goods as your average, classy Italiano. Many New York, Melbourne and Tokyo tailors use ‘Made in Italy’ wools for suiting and non-Italian cobblers even handcraft specialist leather lace-ups from Italian-derived hides.

The answer, is in the Italian approach to style and the art of putting all of it together. Here we’ll show you how to do it flawlessly.

How To Dress Like An Italian

First off, Italians aren’t suckers for transient, tacky trends. Nor, are they stuck in the ways of the old. Instead, they fuse the best of the two; blending contemporary colours, prints and textures with timeless silhouettes and details. Capesce?

Not being one of the cognoscenti, many have tried and failed. So, without being too pedantic (that wouldn’t be Italian as you’ll soon find out), let’s take a look at what it means to feel, and dress, like an Italian.

Focus On Separates

You’re not Italian without something tailored. Separates, the jacket and/or trouser contingent of a traditional suit –  are foundational items; oozing the Italian adage of balancing work, rest and play. For summer, a linen or cotton blazer in pastel hues or navy are pivotal. Winter can be a touch more sturdy with lustrous mohair or cashmere jacket, or one in a textural tweed.

White trousers are a staple for the Italian male. They work as a neutral colour that balances a bold, colourful jacket, and give back a summer vibe, just by association.

Inhabit The Clothes

The Italian man wears the clothes, the clothes don’t wear the Italian. A tailored jacket or blazer is a must, so it fits you like a glove, a casa, even. Then, there is the actual execution – avoiding a clumsy mimicking an of Italian look. The issue lies in appearing ‘owned’ by the clothes; usually indicated by an awkward styling.

For instance, an overly matchy bow tie, boutonnière and pocket square combination or having multiple necklaces, rings and silver chains dripping from your frame. Italians don’t wear ‘things’ for the sake of it, so if you’re putting all the ‘right’ things on but it looks ‘wrong’, strip the accessories back and start again. Show those clothes who’s boss.

Dress Down Formalities

Jackets and pants are essentially formal attire. But Italians wear these suit-ish items, regardless of the occasion. Dressing down traditional formalities is the secret.

Pinstripes, micro-checks or all-black suits are typically super formal. But not when the jacket becomes unstructured – that is, softer on the shoulder and not cut quite so close to the body, like its structured brother. The padding and inner linings normally found in structured jackets are removed to give them a relaxed fit.

Dressing the unstructured jacket is simple. Take a button shirt and leave the collar unbottoned. Or go for a tee instead of an Oxford one all together. A woven silk tie is a great replacement for the more business, windsor style – and it gives back some much-loved texture to the flatness of a shirt.

Double monk shoes are a peak lace-up this season, sans socks – or lavish polka dot ones if you do decide to go there.

Perfectly Imperfect

It wouldn’t be an Italian style piece without mentioning sprezzatura. Thrown about a lot by fashion types, the word describes a “certain nonchalance, so as to conceal all art and make whatever one does or say appear to be without effort and almost without any thought about it.” Sound easy?

Essentially, sprezzatura is all in the styling. And looking like you haven’t tried. For instance, when wearing a belt try moving the buckle off-centre and then wrap the leftover leather around the belt itself. Or why not wear leather monk shoes with no socks and the buckles unfastened. Imperfect, yes. But perfectly, so. Both these add individuality to your look without destroying all your hard work.

Know The Rules & Bend Them

A blazer or jacket needs a collared shirt? Trousers should be worn with a belt? Shades are to be worn only when it’s sunny? Assolutamente, no. In the name of style, true Italians bend or even break, traditional fashion rules for the greater good of the outfit.

But you have to know the rules in order to eloquently manipulate them; beating fashion at its own game. Breaking the rules in the name of style is the craft of the well dressed man. The Italian can tell simply by looking in the mirror that what he’s done say, with a looser tie knot or a half-tucking of a shirt, is a pure fashion crime – but it’s for good reason.

Conor McGregor Makes More Money Per Minute Than Most Millionaires Make Per Year
Conor McGregor Makes More Money Per Minute Than Most Millionaires Make Per Year

It’s no secret that high-profile athletes get paid obscene amounts of money to do their job. Footballers, Formula One drivers, basketball players, you name it, if they’re the best at their craft, they’re going to be paid millions of dollars every year.

But, while the vast majority of money talk tends to revolve around footballers – French national footballer Paul Pogba has just recently been offered a mammoth £500,000 per week by Manchester United, for instance, the highest salary ever seen in the English Premier League – their earnings pale in comparison to those of MMA fighter Conor McGregor in 2021. At least, when you take into account the number of minutes they were active.

Conor McGregor’s Instagram account recently shared a table of earnings of the world’s highest-paid athletes in 2021, based on earnings per minute. It references the likes of NFL talisman Tom Brady, Brazilian superstar Neymar and arguably the greatest footballer ever, Cristiano Ronaldo. Some serious talent, we think you’ll agree.

But Conor is the real winner here, with a staggering $8.6 million earned per minute of active time in 2021, making him the highest-earning athlete of the year. Boxer Canelo Alvarez comes in second place, with earnings of $444,000 per minute. The greatest payday ever? We think so. And it goes some way to explain how Conor happily wears his million-dollar watches to workout with.

The earnings data was supplied by Online Betting Guide (via BJPenn), who added Conor spent just 12 minutes 32 seconds inside the octagon in 2021, facing off against UFC rival Dustin Poirier across two separate bouts. This makes his total 2021 earnings just from UFC fights around $103,630,000.

It was the second of these fights, in July, that saw Conor break his ankle. In the months since he has undergone some serious rehabilitation and training to get himself back into fighting-fit shape.

He’s promised he’ll be back and intends to return to the octagon sometime in 2022. And, considering the sheer amount of muscle he’s put on in recent months, we expect he’ll be looking to bounce back from the two defeats he suffered against Poirier in 2021.

Make no mistake, we’re pretty certain Conor would have preferred to have more fighting minutes last year, but considering he managed to make some serious cash regardless, we imagine his time off would have been pretty cushty.
